Weekend Top Ten #498
Top Ten Movie Cameos
The first time I think I ever noticed someone cameoing in a movie was Steven Spielberg. I was watching The Blues Brothers, and there was this guy, who I was sure was Mr. The Berg. I must have seen him in some behind-the-scenes something or the other. But he was a director, not an actor, so it couldn’t have been him, right? Then years later I was reading Empire, and sure enough, I was vindicated. It was indeed the play mountain himself. But more on that later.
So, cameos, then. What is a cameo? Now, in my opinion, I think it really has to be small. Really, it should just be one scene – or even one shot. The smaller the better. I’ve seen people online refer to Judi Dench in Shakespeare in Love or Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder as cameos, which is very, very daft, as those are clearly supporting roles – even if they are quite small (and remember, Dench didn’t win her Oscar for “Best Cameo”, she won it for “We Meant To Give You This Last Year”, which is a very important category in the Oscars). I also think the best cameos should be unexpected; a nice surprising treat. And usually they’re funny – the incongruity of seeing that person in this film. Because that’s the other thing: for a cameo to really work, the person cameoing has to be kinda famous. For instance, some might say that Ashley Johnson in The Avengers is a cameo, but whilst she’s obviously awesome and prodigiously talented, I don’t think she’s instantly recognisable enough (which, y’know, she’s mostly famous as a voice actor); also there’s nothing inherently funny or surprising about her role, she’s a waitress who’s saved by Captain America. It doesn’t feel like it’s saying anything to have Johnson play that role, other than I guess Joss Whedon wanted her in the movie (it’s actually funnier that her brief scene is referenced in Loki, because Kate Herron had the whole of the MCU to draw from in a montage, but chose to use an unknown character who’s in one tiny bit of one film, entirely because she’s a huge fan of The Last of Us – see, that is arguably a cameo).
So my rationale for what is and isn’t a cameo might seem complex or even arbitrary, but when has that stopped me in the past? And so, with no further ado, we now get deep into the weeds of it and celebrate my favourite movie cameos of all time. Oh, and there’s no Bill Murray here; I know, I know, it’s a really famous cameo, but, er, I’ve never seen Zombieland. Sorry.
Tumblr media
Stan Lee in Pretty Much Everything (2000-2019): I mean, who else? The absolute King of Cameos. Lee was a massive publicity hound all his life, and passed up no opportunity to get in front of the camera, so once big, proper movies were being made of his comics, he was right there, selling hot dogs in X-Men (2000), rescuing children in Spider-Man (2002), and then right through every MCU film until his sad death in 2019 (and even popping up in Teen Titans!). Hearing him tell Miles Morales “I'm going to miss him,” in Into the Spider-Verse chokes me up every time.
Carrie Fisher & George Lucas in Hook (1991): this has always been one of my favourites because unlike virtually every other entry in this list, you only know this if you’ve been told. But it’s funny and it’s sweet. When Tinkerbell takes Peter to Neverland, she flies over a bridge, where a silhouetted couple are seen canoodling. Her pixie dust falls across them, and they begin to float into the air. And apparently the unrecognisable couple are played by Princess Leia and the director of Star Wars. Which, I think you’ll agree, is pretty cool (Hook is really good for cameos).
Brad Pitt in Deadpool 2 (2018): having an invisible character offers plenty of opportunity for some good gags, especially in a Deadpool movie, but the real laugh in the film comes when the Vanisher is electrocuted and we get to see his face for a split second. And – ha – it turns out to be the hugely mega-famous Brad Pitt. It’s funny because he’s a massive star.
Martin Sheen in Hot Shots! Part Deux (1993): it’s one thing for the movie to do an Apocalypse Now gag, as Charlie Sheen’s Topper Harley sails down a river on a military boat, but hanging a lampshade on it by making it cross over with Martin Sheen’s Willard from the classic seventies Vietnam epic is another thing entirely. And then both actors notice each other – ha, funny, they’re father and son in real life – and say in unison, “I loved you in Wall Street!”. Very on-the-nose all the funnier for it.
Steven Spielberg in The Blues Brothers (1980): well, I mentioned him, and here he is, a totally nonplussed-looking administrator bloke just merrily eating a sandwich. He’s frightfully young (I’m guessing he was probably about 32 or 33) and he’s got a big brown tache instead of his usual ‘Berg Beard, he’s dressed very smartly and he’s awfully polite. His demeanour is hilariously in stark contrast to the mayhem around him, and his public persona is also hilariously in contrast to the raucous and ribald mood of the movie.
Cate Blanchett in Hot Fuzz (2007): this is one I didn’t even notice till I read about it after seeing the movie. In a very funny scene where Simon Pegg’s Nick Angel chats to his ex-girlfriend Janine, she is head-to-toe in forensic gear throughout, with a mask covering her face, so all we see are her eyes. But the gag of it is, she’s played by the phenomenally famous Cate Blanchett. You get a megastar to do one scene but make her unrecognisable. So funny it beats Peter Jackson’s evil Santa.
Don Ameche & Ralph Bellamy in Coming to America (1988): this is another one I remember finding hilarious when I was a kid. Walking down the street late at night with love interest Lisa (Shari Headley), Akeem (Eddie Murphy) nonchalantly gives a huge wad of cash to some poor homeless bums. But it turns out that they’re played by Murphy’s old Trading Places co-stars Ameche and Bellamy – and they refer to each other by their character names from that earlier film. “We’re back!” declares Ameche, referencing the end of Trading Places, when their crooked broker characters were defeated and ruined by Murphy and Dan Aykroyd. It’s a great bit of shared-universe tomfoolery, and very funny for fans of Murphy’s movies. Oh, and speaking of Aykroyd…
Dan Aykroyd in Casper (1995): in 1995 it had been six long, bitter years without a new Ghostbusters film; back then, we could still hold out hope for a proper Ghostbuster 3. Sadly that never came to pass, but it was a very pleasant surprise when Ray Stantz himself popped up in Casper, of all things, fearfully running out of Whipstaff Manor in full ghostbusting regalia and declaring, “Who ya gonna call? Someone else!”. I mean, after facing down Gozer and Vigo and who knows what else, you’d think three sarcastic arsehole ghosts would be no match for him, but maybe the ‘busters were having tough times. Maybe this will all be backstory in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Maybe Cathy Moriarty and Eric Idle will return the favour and do cameos of their own. We can but hope.
Matt Damon, Luke Hemsworth, & Sam Neill in Thor: Ragnarok (2017): twenty years ago you could point to Goldmember as the, er, gold standard in multi-character cameo pile-ups. And while that is great – Danny DeVito giving the finger, Spielberg back-flipping – I think it’s been surpassed by this minor gaggle of stars hamming it up. Matt Damon – famouser than anyone actually billed in the movie – is An Actor Playing Loki. Dr. Alan Grant from Jurassic Park is An Actor Playing Odin (whilst Odin’s actor, Anthony Hopkins, plays Tom Hiddleston playing Loki playing Odin – do keep up), and Thor’s Real-Life Brother plays An Actor Playing Thor. It’s all delightfully meta and hilarious.
Ollie Johnston & Frank Thomas in The Incredibles (2004): this one’s really sweet, and like the Hook cameo, would very easily slip you by. At the end of the film, after the climactic battle, two old men cheer on the superheroes – “That’s old school!” “Yep, no school like the old school!” – but what’s great is that they’re voiced by – and designed to look like – Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas, the last two surviving members of the famous “Nine Old Men” group of Disney animators, who’d worked on many of the classic Disney films. This was Pixar and director Brad Bird giving a tip of the hat to the legends who came before them, and made all the sweeter by the fact that Johnston and Thomas (both sadly now deceased) were absolute best buds in real life. A cameo that educates and makes you think! How nice!
There you go. Sadly no room for any of the many great Star Wars cameos, from Daniel Craig through to George Lucas’ entire family. Oh well!

I have seen many, MANY discussions/debates about ca:cw and I have never seen anyone mentioning that Rhodey's injury was a metaphor. How did you get that idea?
Short answer: I’ve actually read a lot on the subject.  I’m teaching a media studies class right now called “What Can Superheroes Tell Us About Psychology?” (because that’s the kind of shit you can get away with at giant universities) and hoo boy are superhero narratives More Ableist Than Average.  Anywhoo, a few of those readings:
I’m quoting hard from the chapter “Hyper-Normative Heroes, Othered Villains: Differential Treatment of Disability in Marvel” in a book on disability studies because it’s free.  A relevant passage:
“These metaphorical portrayals all fail to engage with disability as a social category and as an individual identity, thereby ignoring its context… Nick Fury’s missing eye does not change his aim with distance weapons (e.g. Captain Marvel) or piloting software. Instead, it recurs in the films largely in metaphorical lines such as Fury’s commenting on the death of a friend with ‘I just lost my one good eye’… One character in Avengers even questions the lack of accessibility in Fury’s multi-monitor computer console, and Fury’s assistant simply answers that he must turn his head more often to compensate. The franchise thereby emphasizes that Fury’s missing eye is only a metaphor for his discernment and ability to see details that others have missed, rather than a truly integrated part of his character or even an accurate portrayal of that disability.
“8. This treatment of disability as metaphor persists throughout the MCU. In Captain America: Civil War, superhero War Machine incurs a permanent spinal injury while fighting on behalf of his best friend Iron Man. Later on, rival superhero Hawkeye… ‘You gotta watch your back with this guy. There’s a chance he’s gonna break it.’ The film then equips War Machine with a fantastical prosthesis that essentially nullifies his disabled experience through giving him the same range of motion as his non-disabled [abled] teammates, entirely without side effects or need for maintenance. The MCU films thus present disability as a metaphor for inner morality and characterization. War Machine has few experiences of being a disabled man through his spinal injury, but is instead emotionally ‘disabled’ by the damage to his social standing he has incurred through his friendship with Iron Man… The MCU thereby offers no critique of ableism or inaccessibility, instead continuing to localize disability as a problem with the body and the individual.”
Death, Disability, and the Superhero: The Silver Age and Beyond by José Alaniz is also a fantastic resource, and you can buy it for money here or hopefully find it at a library if you have no money.  A few of the relevant points from his book:
Superhero stories often treat disability as a “problem” that must be “solved” through in essence nullifying the disabled experience of the character(s) through superpowers that run directly counter to the disabilities and/or fantasy “cures,” e.g.
Daredevil is blind BUT navigates the world in a way similar to sighted people due to his “radar sense,” meaning that he doesn’t get to have a lot of the lived experiences of blind individuals
Don Blake is mobility impaired and uses a cane BUT his cane transforms into mjolnir and imbues him with the power of Thor, meaning that he spends most of the story moving like a nondisabled person
Hawkeye is hard of hearing sometimes in some of the comics, BUT he often gets magical cochlear implants from Tony Stark that cause him to stop being hard of hearing
Characters that are disabled and remain disabled tend to be villains whose villainy is either implied or stated to come directly from their bitterness over being disabled, e.g.
Doctor Doom hates that he’s scarred by an explosion so much that he wants to take over the world to get revenge on the Fantastic Four
The Lizard only transforms himself because he ignores all scientific and ethical boundaries in his desperation to stop being disabled
Doctor Poison is described by herself and other characters as a “monster” for failing to (unlike Wonder Woman) conform to White Western conceptualizations of female beauty
Characters like The Thing, She-Hulk, and Bizarro have the potential for some really interesting disability narratives.  However, the same publication pressures that prevent permanent injury or death to the characters also prevent the inclusion of “serious” “real-world” issues like discrimination unless it’s metaphorical (e.g. anti-mutant fearmongering as a metaphor for anti-AIDS prejudice).
The Big Damn Foundational Text on the intersection of disability studies and media studies is Narrative Prosthesis: Disability and the Dependencies of Discourse by David T. Mitchell and Sharon L. Snyder, and you can pay money for it here but it’s also available at a lot of libraries.  Anyway, a couple of relevant points from that book include:
Disability portrayals abound in literature going back to pretty much the dawn of history, but most of those portrayals suck ass because:
Most disabilities are treated as metaphors rather than demographic characteristics, which means that the disabled character doesn’t get connected to other people with disabilities (including those in the real world) and offers no commentary on ableism — if Richard III’s spinal misalignment is just a metaphor for him being “twisted” inside, it doesn’t allow readers with spinal misalignment to identify with him
Disabled characters tend to exist to teach lessons to nondisabled characters rather than having their own journeys — Tiny Tim isn’t a person in A Christmas Carol, he’s an object lesson for Scrooge
Many disabled characters either get “fixed” so that they look outwardly “normal,” or their “ugliness” is used to make concrete the abstract “ugliness” of their personalities
Disability is treated as a “problem” that demands an explanation – Captain Ahab’s prosthetic leg and Joker’s facial scarring are treated as automatically demanding the question “why are you like this?,” even though no one would ever ask the same thing of their nondisabled co-characters
Authors’ implicit ableism tends to come out in their horror of disability, such as when they portray disabled characters preferring death to disability, going to extreme lengths to avoid or nullify disability, and/or declaring themselves “worthless” or “burdensome” in light of disability
Discomfort with disability — another form of implicit ableism – also comes out when disabled characters are overwhelmingly “killed or cured,” meaning that they don’t get to end their stories as living individuals who are still, in practice, disabled
ANYWAY, that’s a long-winded way of saying that I also haven’t seen any critics specifically talk about Rhodey’s disability as a metaphor first and a part of the character second, but that that doesn’t mean the shoe don’t fit.  When someone asks about the Accords in Infinity War, Rhodey also says he supported them but then “I’m pretty sure I paid for that,” and gestures at his own paralyzed legs.  He also also says in Endgame “I wasn’t always like this… but we work with what we’ve got” when talking to Nebula, BOTH about the fact that he’s disabled and about the fact that half the universe is dead and they’re all struggling to cope with that fact.  It keeps getting used as a metaphor and keeps NOT getting used as a part of his identity.  LET THE MAN TALK TO SOME OTHER DISABLED VETERANS FOR TWO SECONDS, FOR FUCK’S SAKE.
A couple of other (free!) readings that talk about that general problem of “we love superheroes and we hate ableism, now what?” even if they don’t mention Rhodey specifically:
“Reevaluating the Supercrip” by Sami Schalk connects media portrayals of the paralympics to media portrayals of Captain America and the Doom Patrol.  (I swear to god it makes sense in context.)
“Seven Roads to Justice for Superheroes and Humans” by Mikhail Lyubansky gets into the glaring (for me, anyway) question of “why the fuck are sci fi psychologists all so evil and useless?” by explaining why Harley Quinn must be evil for Batman to be a vigilante.
“Superhero Comics as Moral Pornography” by David A. Pizarro and Roy Baumeister (again, I swear it makes sense if you read it) discusses the evolutionary tendency to judge people based on disabilities and why it’s so popular in superhero stories specifically.
Anyway, you probably weren’t looking for an entire annotated bibliography in response to that question, but I’ve never been one to use five words when 500 would suffice.

Hey, I was looking for some new reading material and wondered if you could give me some recs? Please and thank you sm!
ho BOY anon, COULD I! I’ve got over 2,000 bookmarks on AO3 - what are we looking for? I’m going to assume IronDad, or at the very least Peter Parker-centric; short or long? MJ or Gwen Stacy? Angst, fluff, whump? Sorry this took a minute; I went into the vault for you and pulled out some rare gems:
LONG FICS
In the Home by @captainkirkk | 68k
The Avengers have been infected, turned violent and aggressive against their will. And Peter, the only one unaffected, is trapped inside the Tower with six feral teammates.
“Natasha,” Peter says cautiously, “what happened here? Steve attacked me, and if there was ever a sign that something was wrong, it’s having the embodiment of Truth, Justice, and the American Way throw you across the room—”
Natasha comes closer, her stride controlled. Nothing necessarily out of the ordinary, but there’s something in her face, in her eyes—
Natasha lunges across the space, and slams into Peter, hard.
This just…hoo. A classic if I’ve ever seen one. There’s going to be plenty of aloneintherain on this list because she’s the bomb dot com and its no secret I’m in love. we Stan in this house; this might be my favorite Spidey fic ever written.
POW Avengers by Punny_Puck |122k
Tony Stark is thrown into a new Nazi POW camp. It’s his fifth–or sixth–and he’d really like to make it to his fiftieth escape attempt this time. But Stalag III isn’t like any of the other POW camps he’s been in. He suddenly finds himself facing an impossible task: Getting two-hundred and fifty men out of the camp in one massive escape attempt. And dammit if he’s not going to make it work.
Very impressive, very lengthy and detailed historical AU set in WWII. This one is more Tony than Peter, and quite a fair bit of Loki (this author does a great job with all the different POV’s, that’s why it’s so long!). Nice and juicy!
5 Times Peter Fell & Tony Caught Him, and The 1 Time He Didn’t by eva7673 | 35k
Peter has a nasty habit of falling. And Tony, bless him, will catch him every. single. time. Until the day he can’t.
I love this series with all of my heart, but especially this first fic! It’s the perfect amount of whump and IronDad, and oh man, that last time? GETS me. Eva definitely put in so much work on this series, and it SHOWS!
Twelve Days of Peter Parker by @upcamethesun | 27k
In each of the twelve days leading up to Christmas, Tony runs into one Peter Parker — for better or for worse.
In other words, an excuse for this author to write gratuitous Peter fluff/angst/nonsense with a Christmas theme, because ‘tis the season.
This fic is so cute I Die. Perfect bit of holiday nonsense! I read it every year lol. It’s got everything you’re looking for and more, to scratch the itch you didn’t know you had.
ever in your favor by @iron–spider | 153k
Peter startles awake when someone shakes him.
“Sorry, honey,” May says. Peter blinks a couple times and she comes into focus, her hair pulled back from her face. She’s trying not to look a certain way, but he can see it in her eyes anyway. She clears her throat, keeps talking. “But it’s…” She glances away, wets her lips. “You gotta get ready.”
He remembers what day it is, and his heart beats like a drum at someone’s execution. But he tries to put on a mask, make it all seem normal. It’s everything but, despite the fact that he’s been dealing with reaping day since he was born, between himself, Ben and May. That fear that one of them could be taken away. Sent to surefire slaughter. But now Ben is gone, taken despite never having his name drawn from a bowl, and May’s finally safe. Now Peter’s name is in there alone. The last Parker sitting on the chopping block. He doesn’t know how to be. He doesn’t know what normal is, when the Hunger Games are looming on the horizon.
I mean…how could I possibly do a fic rec list without this on it? Iron–spider’s latest masterwork, and it truly is a masterwork. The Hunger Games AU your soul has been crying out for, and quite possibly the greatest AU to ever live. Do yourself a favor and get settled in - you’re in for a ride.
Magazineverse by @copperbadge | 56k
Heroes In Manhattan: From Captain America’s Hidden Talents To The Truth About The Hulk, We Debunk The Myths And Expose The Daily Lives Of The Avengers.
Avengers-centric, takes place post-2012. The Avengers team we deserve! The whole series is amazing, and I definitely didn’t see the twist coming (SO original, and you totally got me. Well played.)
MEDIUM FICS
devil in a sunday hat by @captainkirkk | 14k
Peter wishes he hadn’t gotten out of bed that morning. Then, maybe, he wouldn’t be reduced to this—limp-crawling through the rabbit burrows that is Oscorp Tower, a monster of a man on his heels, bloody and bruised and choking on a panic attack.
This series really speaks to Peter, and his experience as a street-level hero. I don’t think I’ve ever not cried reading this series - it’s really beautiful. Aloneintherain always manages to capture how much weight and anxiety sits on Peter’s shoulders - and how dire his consequences can really be.
5 things that change for Peter after the end of the world by @iron–spider | 14k
…and one thing that always remains the same.
(SPOILERS FOR INFINITY WAR)
Peter knows he’s different now.
The first three months were like a bubble. He didn’t think about the newness of his old life, he didn’t think about the state of the world now that it had been saved—he just worried. Worried about Tony and Steve recovering. Worried about May worrying about him. Worried about everything in general—he didn’t allow himself specifics because specifics didn’t make sense, not yet. He just focused on his routine, kept it normal, the same schedule every day so he didn’t throw himself off.
It felt like the bubble popped when the party ended, and everything became clearer. The differences in who he is now were highlighted, like there was a spotlight on his every move, like everybody could see the invisible scars the world-ending experience left on him.
The first thing he notices is the sleeping. Or lack thereof.
(a follow up to my story “the rattle of their hearts” from Peter’s POV. You can read this one without having read the original, but it would make more sense if you have read it!)
Everyone knows Rattle, and if you don’t, definitely read the first fic in this series! But this second one is really special to me (and MJ never fails to make me laugh out loud, every time). Peter’s PTSD is dealt with intimately in this fic, and I love it to bits.
the conspiracy kids by @tempestaurora | 13k
WHO IS SPIDER-MAN?
The screen showed Peter Parker, sixteen years old and determined to prove the identity of Spider-Man over the course of the three-part documentary he was making, unknowing that it would become viral within days of the first part being released. Behind the camera, way off screen, was Harley Keener, Tony Stark’s other prodigy child, grinning like crazy as Peter started the documentary. Only a few people knew what was to come, and those few people were about to have a great few weeks.
“My name is Peter Parker, and with the help of my friends, Ned Leeds, Harley Keener, and my Aunt, May Parker, who provided me with a lot of red yarn for this project, we’re going to uncover the identity of Spider-Man.”
OR
“what if peter just decided to fuck with everyone who didn’t know he was spider man and make a documentary about him trying to uncover the Truth.”
Looking for a fun, Peter-and-Harley-being-ridiculous-teenagers fic? This is the One For You. I can see it all in my head, and it never fails to make me laugh. Delightful piece of fluff and probably the best social-media-esque fic I’ve read.
Primary Reason Tony Stark Would Throw Down With An Anti-Vaxxer In The Street by @caraminha | 12k
Prompt from my Tumblr: Have you heard of tetanus? I’m studying it for school and it’s got lots of angst potential - it causes severe, seizure like muscle spasms which can break the patient’s bones, but they’re conscious and fully aware of what’s happening. It also causes fever and lockjaw, and difficulty breathing. I’d love to see an angst fic where Peter has bad tetanus and Tony and co are looking after him whilst his symptoms get worse and worse.
Looking for some Peter!whump? This fic is so sweet. Tony is Dad. What more do you need?
SHORT FICS
Come Together by @captainkirkk | 1.8k
From the ground, Tony squints at Thanos and the young heroes the villain is chasing through the city. “Are they…” Tony begins.
Steve, being lifted onto a gurney by starstruck paramedics, laughs a little. “Leading the man who almost destroyed the Earth in a wild goose chase?” In the sky, Johnny Storm sticks his tongue out at Thanos, ducking and weaving out of the villain’s grasp. “Yeah. I think they are.”
Didn’t I promise she’d be on here a billion and one times? All of her stuff is so good, for every fandom. Go READ this queen who’s been killing the game for years. This fic is such a sweet one, an Endgame fic before Peter was even in the MCU. It’s perfect.
Only Road by @garamonder | 2.8k
A rare breather between fighting should have been a relief for the Avengers. Instead, one small comment triggers a confrontation Peter had been avoiding for months.
Oh wow this one…this dialogue between Peter and Tony is incredible. One of my favorite things in a fic is a good argument, especially one where Peter has a distinct and mature point.
Every Penny and More by Princessfbi | 1.2k
She forced herself to inhale air and hold it before releasing it from her lips. She grounded herself in the cheap vinyl in a crappy diner that she wasn’t sure she was ever going to be able to look at the same way again. She thought of the life Peter would have if she said yes because she knew that’s what all of this was about: Tony asking her permission to let him do this.
May and Tony co-parenting Peter is…oh, be still my heart. This is such a sweet little fic of something that definitely happened off-screen :’)
5 Times Spider-Man Saved An Avengers’ Ass (and the 1 Time They Saved Him) by TunaFishChris | 7.2k
What it says on the tin.
Going through an angsty Spider-Man phase. I regret nothing.
YES give me Peter x Avengers team! Peter gets a great moment with each of the Avengers, proving himself a capable hero (and getting assistance when he needs it the most :’) baby makes some friends!). Really cute, a fun little romp.
unbearable loss by @iron–spider | 1.6k
“Peter…he was so afraid, Pep,” Tony says, his voice breaking. “He…he just lunged for me, he was so afraid, he wanted—he needed someone to be there for him. And I tried, I tried—I held him, I told him he was alright, which was a—goddamn lie, and the only fucking thing that came out of my mouth. The last thing I said to him.” He shakes his head, swallowing hard. “The last thing I said to him was a lie.”
“You can’t blame yourself,” Pepper says, quietly.
“I do,” Tony says. “He trusted me. That kid trusted me, and I failed him every possible way I could have. I couldn’t save him, I couldn’t—he died in my arms and I couldn’t do one single solitary thing about it. And I couldn’t—me, the human fucking chatterbox—I just stared at him. He was dying, turning to fucking dust and apologizing to me and I just stared at him, like a moron.”
This fic Fucks. Me. Up. Iron–spider’s Tony angst is unparalleled. It hurts me every time, and the dialogue between him and Pepper is just…it’ll get you.
yesterday, I saw a change by @captainkirkk | 6.8k
Inspired by prompt: ‘Peter is unmasked on live television, and everyone goes berserk—you’ve already heard this one but here’s the twist—he’s wide-eyed, staring into the camera, frightened, but not because of his own safety. The first thing that comes out of his mouth is, “Someone please, please protect my Aunt May.” And the entirety of New York cries out simultaneously. Heroes and neighbours and fellow students rain down on the Parker house, ready to defend her.’
This is - surprise! - a May Parker fic. This fic will move you. You will probably cry. I love it with all my heart. If I ever need a refresher on who May is and how she feels - how New York feels, about Spiderman - this is my go-to.
Hope that gave you some new stuff to check out! I have more, do I ever have more. Enjoy & remember to leave comments for all of these wonderful writers!!!

lay your weary head to rest by @the-great-escapism
Summary: “Please.” He means to say it loudly, with confidence, but it comes out as nothing more than a raspy whisper. His ears are ringing painfully, and his head feels like it’s going to explode. It hurts and hurts and hurts. “M-May,” Peter cries out to no one, feeling like a child. “Tony. Please, ‘m so tired.” He inhales and chokes on his tears. He can’t tell if it’s his imagination or not, but he’s pretty sure he hears a laugh. In which Peter gets kidnapped, and that's not even the worst part. The worst part is he's not allowed to sleep.
Priorities by JLMonroe1234
Summary: Tony had been in the cave for a month. Waiting. Planning. Healing. Biding his time until his creation would be ready and durable enough to get him home. With Yinsen's help and Tony's expertise, he would save them both. But when an injured teenager is brought into the mix, Tony must reevaluate his priorities and decide what's more important; a speedy escape, or rescuing the boy with the spider tattoo?

Summary: On his first day back, he didn’t expect the stares. Well, he expected some stares, but he didn’t think the entire hallway would just… stop. But that’s what they did. They froze, jaws hanging open, eyes wide, as he lowered his head and curled in on himself. He pushed through the attention. He set his jaw and marched forward, because he had been through worse in the last year.
Patient by alifetime
Summary: Just because Tony has retired as an Avenger, does not mean he still doesn’t have a business to run with Pepper. Since both his oldest children cannot always babysit for Morgan, he hires a babysitter. Harley didn’t really know what to think of the babysitter, and always kept a protective eye on Morgan. But she had told him that Skip was nice. She always seems to be smiling and happy whenever Skip comes to stay. It didn’t filter his concern. So when he goes college, he demands that Peter keeps an eye on him. Peter liked Skip. Until he didn’t. However, he will do anything to keep his brother and sister safe.
Identity Theft by KitCat992
Summary: It's been months since the events of Civil War, and the Avengers are doing their best to remain a team, having promised to forgive and forget. Unfortunately for them, Tony Stark's latest invention has been stolen and recovering it causes tension to reappear. Meanwhile, in Queens, Peter Parker has two main priorities on his plate — complete his midterm finals, and track down a fishbowl wearing criminal that may or may not lead him right into the hands of the Avengers. Somehow between all of this, Spider-man's identity is revealed to the Avengers, Steve and Tony's friendship may permanently be damaged due to continued hidden secrets, and Happy struggles to buy a youth-sized casket for Peter's funeral. Things were a lot easier when they were fighting over Bucky Barnes. (Or: The Avengers welcome Peter into their crazy superhero family and will do anything to protect him.) Summary: It happens the same way it always does. (It's just discipline. It's not that bad. It's fine, Peter is fine, he'll be fine--) Except he really isn't fine, and Tony knows something's up, and Peter's house of cards is falling apart, and so the story goes. — separate from other fics in the series. a recovery story full of soft irondad, found families, and (eventually) tons of fluff.

how can the body die? (you tell me, everything) by @madasthesea
Summary: Tony felt panic creep up his spine. Something was occurring to him, slowly percolating in the back of his mind. “You said the stinger got you. Is Scorpion’s stinger venomous?” “I don’t—” Peter cut off as he groaned, the muscles in his jaw tight. “I don’t know. He upgraded—he was faster. Bigger. I—I thought I could beat him.”
oh, darling. by luna_e_stelle
Summary: "Peter?" Tony’s voice wavered with an urgency that cut through the thick haze in Peter’s mind. There was so much emotion in that one word that Peter wondered how he had ever doubted that Tony loved him. They had never said it out loud, just showed it in a way that spoke louder than words ever could. — Peter is taken, and he tries to find his way back home.

Summary: Peter Parker is not immune to trauma. Far from it, in fact. (With great power comes great responsibility, Peter.) So when the building collapses, when the dilapidated remains of metal and concrete, and later searing scraps of plane, fall around him? Well, this is practically nothing. Practically. He’s fine, really. It just gets a little hard to breathe sometimes. Like, when he follows Happy into Stark Tower through the parking garage. Or when he turns on the news while doing homework and sees reports of a plane crash. And sure, the small fire that broke out in the chemistry lab had sent his heart racing and caused sweat to bead on the back of his neck until even Ned asked if he was okay, but it’s nothing to worry about. Regardless, he knows where those come from. But this? In which Skip Westcott is a repressed memory, until he returns.

Summary: Before the door even clicked shut, he opened his mouth to let the pink petals flutter to the ground. In the center of all this mess was a single rose, not yet bloomed, but Tony knew, deep down, what this meant. But they were only teammates for sure; nothing else will go further. — “You have Hanahaki?” she asked, barely more than a whisper. He fisted out the petal from his pocket and held it out to her. “If that’s what would cause this to come out of my throat.”

Instead he keeps his eyes on Howard and his hands cupped around his bleeding mouth and nose.

Summary: “What are you—?” “Hold on,” Peter says, tongue sticking out of the corner of his mouth in concentration as the pen moves across the page. He rips out another page, then seems to grow frustrated and just opens up his notebook to start writing in it rather than stealing pages out of it. Harley feels stuck, flabbergasted and frozen, and he doesn’t know how long he sits there and watches before Peter lets out a huff and finally leans back, satisfaction in his eyes as he hands it all to Harley, all the scribbled writing and torn pages. “Read these.” Harley blinks once, slow, as he takes the offered notebook with the ripped out papers on top. “What…?” And Peter just smiles and shrugs. “They’re poems,” he says. “I looked some up, wrote down the good parts. Summary: WHO IS SPIDER-MAN? The screen showed Peter Parker, sixteen years old and determined to prove the identity of Spider-Man over the course of the three-part documentary he was making, unknowing that it would become viral within days of the first part being released. Behind the camera, way off screen, was Harley Keener, Tony Stark’s other prodigy child, grinning like crazy as Peter started the documentary. Only a few people knew what was to come, and those few people were about to have a great few weeks. “My name is Peter Parker, and with the help of my friends, Ned Leeds, Harley Keener, and my Aunt, May Parker, who provided me with a lot of red yarn for this project, we’re going to uncover the identity of Spider-Man.” OR "what if peter just decided to fuck with everyone who didn’t know he was spider man and make a documentary about him trying to uncover the Truth."

Happy Fanfic Writer Friday (#FFWF)! Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)
OMG THIS IS SUCH A GREAT ASK!!!
Okay okay, because you basically gave me permission to ramble, this is gonna be so freaking long, but I’m doing it anyways, because I want to do every story that has it because I try to do stuff like this a ton, especially in multi-chapter stories!!
Okay, I’m gonna focus on only AO3 stories this time, since those ones are the ones that really have a lot of this, and I’ll talk about them in order of most recently published/updated (though not all are included in this list because some are simpler than others lol). That said, spoiler alert for anyone who hasn’t read these stories.
AO3:
Who Knew Birthdays Could Be So Complicated
My favorite thing about this story is that it’s based entirely on poking fun at the fact that so many MCU villains are only villains because Tony made them mad somehow, because I think it’s hilarious and I’m proud of how I was able to poke fun at it while still properly representing the beautiful relationship between Tony and Peter and their individual characterizations.
This has a very subtle incorporation of Spideychelle, because it takes place after Endgame, but assumes Far From Home never happened, so Peter and MJ aren’t really a thing yet, but you can kind of tell they’re going to be if you take notice of the way they react both around each other and about each other in this fic.
There’s also a very subtle incorporation of Happy/May for the same reason--Far From Home hasn’t happened (yet), so their relationship is only just starting to come to pass. It’s referenced through Tony and Peter’s suspicious/surprised reactions when Happy suddenly wants to be with May all the time.
I love the way I made time pass in this fic. At once point, I transition between scene using a watch, and throughout the fic, the passing of time and the number of minutes are constantly mentioned to serve as a sort of countdown as events transpire, and it’s subtle, but I feel like it really helps follow the passage of time and make it all even more realistic.
It was hard to figure out how to express this, so I’m not sure how many people actually caught this, but I loved how I subtly showed that Bruce wound up finding a way to reverse what he did before Endgame and bring himself back to his normal self in order to help the city better.
There’s a really subtle reference to Peter’s sensory overload when Perceptivo starts talking about how he was able to grab Peter in the first place. He never finishes his sentence, but the reader and Tony get a sense of what he’s getting at.
Everytime I write in adorable Peter and Morgan moments, I get excited about it, and this fic is no different. That said, I love the way their relationship is portrayed, even if it is brief.
Lastly, I love what I did with the chapter titles for this story. The titles match up, outside to in. The first and last chapter parallel each other as general titles (”The Unexpected Surprise” and “The Real Surprise”). The second and seventh title both reference a phrase said/implied in the chapter (”Forty-Three Minutes” and “Unconditional Love”). The third and sixth titles chapter titles that summarize the chapter, with the sixth one being a Star Wars reference, because of course ;) (”Lost Sleep, Long Night” and “It’s a Trap”). And lastly, the fourth and fifth chapters are lines quoted by the Peter and Tony in their respective POV chapters (”I Need to Handle This on My Own” and “Dammit Kid”). I worked hard on those, and I’m so proud of how they lined up.
Always and Forever
I love love love how the sibling relationship between Peter, Harley, and Morgan develops in this one. I love that Harley and Morgan have an established relationship through video, but there’s still a sense of distance there, and I love how Peter and Morgan have a pre-determined relationship because of the stories Tony used to tell Morgan about Peter, but he doesn’t want to overstep, so it creates distance. I love Harley and Peter knowing about and already respecting each other and then being able to actually get to know each other for real and everything that comes with that. I just love how these three slowly get to know each other, but in a way, they already knew each other so well that they’re basically already family. It’s exactly what I was shooting for, and I’m glad that it seemed to come out that way for readers and for my own self-analysis.
I am also particularly proud of Morgan’s voice in this story. Peter and Harley, both being teenagers, were a little more natural, but Morgan, as a four-year-old, took some tweaking to perfect, but in the end, I really felt like I could hear the four-year-old innocence and hope and love and I felt like it lined up so well with everything else in the story as she comes to terms with everything that happened and works through it in the only way she can--with help.
Most of the references/callbacks in this one are super obvious, but there are a couple that are more subtle. There’s a small reference to that “you’re a mechanic, why don’t you just build something?” scene in IM3 where Harley gets Tony out of a panic attack, and to Harley’s dad leaving him. There’s also a reference to Peter’s uncle dying when he mentions that he’s “been through it before”. I also included a little bit of subtlety in reference to the fact that Pepper never actually changed her name to Stark, canonically, and added the emotional element of it in the epilogue.
Each of the objects/memories that the three kids hold close has a lot of symbolism and intent behind them, and they fit in with the chapter titles. In “Every Picture Tells a Story”, Peter’s memories are in pictures because of the picture of him and Tony in Endgame that made Tony invent time travel (it totally made him invent time travel don’t even try to fight me on it). It represents that timeline of events where Tony really truly had a kid with him that he could love and cherish and who loved and cherished him back, but in a way that never needed words--just actions and photographs. In “Reminders of How it Used to Be”, Harley’s memories are in his phone through text messages, because he and Tony always connected technologically, even from a distance. They initially bonded over fixing the Iron Man suit, and the idea that Tony continued to upgrade Harley’s tech into his later years fits really well into their relationship. Even though they were far away, they learned how to express how much they cared for each other through words and objects. Lastly, in “No Hugs are as Warm as Yours” Morgan’s memories are in a recording of her Dad, because Morgan was the one that Tony truly got his time with--the one that was truly his to cherish and hold that he would never let go of. After Peter, and with Harley’s distance, Morgan was the one that Tony was determined to love with everything he had, and in doing this, he gave her a piece of him every day, and she could always hold him close to her heart and have him do all the special things with her that only he could do. The recording of him, that’s small enough to clutch to her, but big enough emotionally to represent everything her father did for her, and shows a tiny part of something that only her dad does--a lullaby her mom doesn’t sing, and a lullaby he’s never sung to anyone else--is a great representation of the piece of his soul that Tony gave to his daughter, just by being her dad. Maybe I tried to read too much into all of that, but I thought those subtle little representations were really crucial to this story.
Another thing I love that I tried to break down is that everyone had a different name for Morgan. As the precious little one who just lost her dad, she’s kind of the center of this story, in a sense. Harley and Peter bond over helping her through her nightmare, and that brings the three of them closer. Morgan makes Peter and Harley smile in the dark times, and they do the same for her. Morgan had the most to lose from this, because Tony was, theoretically, the only one she had, but the message of the story winds up being that he wasn’t, because she has all of these other people in her family too. Because of that, there’s a nice subtlety that I had where everyone has a different nickname for her, because everyone contributes to her story and her life in a different way. Pepper’s nicknames/terms of endearment for her are sweetheart and little miss; however, “little miss” is one that Tony used to use, so Pepper only started using it after Tony died (so...in this story). Tony’s other nickname for her, canonically, is Morguna. Then, Peter’s nickname for her is Morgs, and Harley’s nickname for her is Mo. Most of those only really appear once, but it’s a cute little characterization thing that I worked hard to include.
Lastly, another method of symbolism in the chapter titles is their lengths and, again, parallelism. I already talked about the second, third, and fourth chapter titles, all of which are a little shorter and represent the different object symbols for the kids and their connection to Tony, but I also added some symbolism and parallelism with the first and last chapter titles. Both of those titles, because those chapters have the perspectives of all three children, are longer and include parenthetical statements. Additionally, the first chapter title represents a lot more distance: “It’s Hard to Say Goodbye (To What You Want Forever”. This ties in not only to the fact that Tony’s gone, but also to the fact that, in the first chapter, while all three kids’ perspectives are included, they’re separate and apart. But then the last chapter title, “I Can’t Solve All Your Problems (But I Promise You Won’t Face Them Alone), represents togetherness, which is exactly how that chapter winds up playing out--all three perspsecitves collide, and they wind up helping each other through the grief. Symbolic titles are always fun.
To An Amazing Big Brother
This one is filled with subtle references. Sam leaves ScoobyDoo on for Dean, referenced as a favorite of his several times canonically. Sam also mentions how Dean checks under the bed every night, which was supposed to connect to the scene where Sam tells Dean that his dad said the monsters under the bed weren’t real and Dean told him it’s because he already checked there. Dean’s grumpiness over the lack of bacon is based off of two scenes: the one where Dean’s mad that Sam won’t let him get bacon, and the one where Sam’s mad that Dean won’t buy veggie bacon. The fact that Dean keeps the journal close for the next twenty-eight years is a reference to that photo of Mary that he’s had since he was a kid that he brings with them everywhere. Dean mentioning that Sam had grown up so much in three years is supposed to reference the many times in the show that Dean mentions that he wished Sam could’ve been a kid longer. The candy bars and the Hot Wheel car as his birthday gifts represent how Sam gives him “fuel” for Dean and Baby as gifts in the Christmas episode, and the fact that Sam mentions that Uncle Bobby helped him with it is a reference to Bobby giving Sam the Samulet to give to John in the Christmas episode, which he eventually gives to Dean. Lastly, the birthday pie represents the many, many times Dean says he loves pie. So I guess that all ties into symbolism, references, and callbacks/clues for future scenes, but in any case, there are a lot of them.
The other thing that comes into this is the symbolism of the photo album. The fact that it’s something Bobby put together shows how Bobby was always a true father for them (at least, in my opinion, but, I mean, come on, he was), and the fact that it takes place over several years and very rarely actually has Bobby in the photo just represents how much he got to watch them grow and how much he was there for them. On top of that, it represents Sam and Dean’s brotherly relationship for two reasons: first of all, it shows how they grew up together and basically never left each other’s side; second of all, the message Sam writes, “Thanks for always being there for me. I know I can always count on you.”, is a huge representation of everything Supernatural is and stands for when it comes to Sam and Dean’s relationship--they can always count on each other, no matter what.
The Meaning of Christmas
There isn’t really that much in this one, but I did want to mention that I put a lot of research into making the locations as realistic as possible, so Ellen’s Stardust Diner and 7th Avenue are both real streets in NY popular for Christmas shows and Christmas lights, respectively. I don’t live in NY, so I don’t know how accurate any of that was, but I tried my best, and I feel like it worked.
Training Session
This one doesn’t have anything too deep overall, but it does include a couple of Endgame references and one from Ant-Man. Morgan and Nat’s training with practicing punching was meant to loosely reference the Ant-Man training session between Hope and Scott--with the failed attempt, but slowly getting better. Harley and Clint training--with Clint adjusting Harley’s footing, Harley making it dead center, and Clint high-fiving him--were all references to Clint and his daughter shooting arrows in Endgame. Lastly, while this is pretty obviously an Endgame reference, Morgan does say “I (still) love you 3000”, and Tony says it back, so there is that. XD
Wow! This was honestly kind of hard to break down, but also really fun! I’ve definitely gotten better at symbolism and references in recent months--most of these were a lot more recent, especially the ones with loads of commentary XD--but in general, I think my character development in pretty good, and I still try to incorporate as many things as I can, subtle or otherwise.
I hope this answered your question, and I’m sorry it’s so long, but this was really fun! Thank you so much for asking! <3

okay so i saw endgame twice last weekend
there’s spoilers ahead y’all so i suggest scrolling on by if u haven’t watched
anyways
here are my thoughts and they’re all over the place so
- first hawkeye scene was already so sad also do i sense a kate bishop??
- tony teaching nebula how to play paper flick football was the so cute i love their dynamic
- also seeing how caring nebula was during that time oh man i am soft
- okay but how did carol just happen to come across tony and nebula’s ship???? like there’s a whole universe,,, and she just found it??
- “i lost the kid” had me ready to cry so fast
- rocket responding to being called a build-a-bear with “maybe i am” snsksjkd
- tony’s snap at cap was so valid and i think he needed to let all that out and cap really needed to hear that
- also i like that they gave him credit for his warning that the world needed a suit of armor because it shows some dummies that he created ultron with good intentions
- support group cap is a good concept and also kinda sad bc we know sam was also a support group leader
- this is an unpopular opinion and people will definitely disagree with me but carols new haircut was not doing things for her
- nat crying over clint made me big sad especially the second time around
- honestly i really liked nat in this movie more than others, her character really shows some depth
- i swear i’m going to get 3000 tattooed on me somewhere that shit HURTED
- on that note morgan stark is the most adorable little girl i’ve ever seen and dad!tony deserved to be a concept for more than 5 years (or 5 minutes from an audience point of view)
- like if you didn’t hear “define lunch or be desintagrated” and immediately melt ur a liar
- scott running around the vanished memorial in panic is :(
- okay cassie looks way to old for just a 5 year time jump im sorry someone had to say it
- hulk/banner is so fucking weird it’s so uncomfortable but also it didn’t bother me to the extent where i wanted it changed bc it was pretty funny
- also him giving scott tacos had me rolling
- thor bod is okay and i think shitting on him for it is mean we all acknowledged that he’d been through a lot after infinity war
- “shit”
- tony inventing time travel super casually? iconic.
- tony also creating a gauntlet in a hot second even though thanos had to fatty go to nidavellir and use some special ass metal to get his? even more iconic.
- all the domestic scenes where the avengers just sit around trying to figure out where to make their jumps and nat with her little notepad and bruce going “shut the front door” all of it was so good
- alright here’s the tea the thor we know and love would not just ignore loki when he went back in time he’d have exactly the same reaction as when his mother showed up
- their whole relationship that was built in ragnarok just fucking died and i refuse to accept that
- also seeing loki made me very happy and very sad i miss that dramatic little bitch
- also i love frigga
- america’s ass
- literally imagine checking out ur own ass and being like “damn,,” while ur friends also do the same
- “i can do this all day” “yeah i know” was solid fucking comedy even he’s tired of it
- “hail hydra” was also so good that bitch really took full advantage of being from the future he was so proud of himself
- i feel like nebula perhaps could have warned nat and clint about vormir but idk
- nat is so fucking important and deserved better, no memorial? no funeral? really?
- honestly and this is a problematic opinion but i wish it was clint and not nat because marvel wasnt doing enough with his character anyways and nat was such an integral part of the team in so many ways and it’s kind of terrible that i think this bc clint has a family but nat was honestly the heart of the team
- but she did so good and i’m proud of her she really died a hero’s death and she needs recognition
- the broken shield like how it was in tony’s vision is rough
- cap lifting mjolnir??????? Wack
- shuri yesssss i really hope she has a bigger role later in the avengers but im upset tony didn’t get to meet her he would’ve loved her :(
- the scene when everyone came back and it was just everyone in one place was such an experience like man the goosebumps
- also seeing peter for the first time back made my heart swell i love that boy
- tony and pepper iron couple is everything i needed thank you
- tony and petey reunion <3
- but also i felt like peters lines during their reunion were a just the slightest bit odd but that’s just the script not toms acting
- scott looking at hope when she calls steve “cap”
- the fact that cap called peter “queens” is really cute and overlooked also pepper calling him “kid” like tony does
- the girl team up WHEW chile can i tell u i was smiling so big that shit had me SHOOK at first but then it occurred to me how unlikely it is that they would all end up in the same spot and that was completely there just to make fans have the exact reaction we’re all having and so they could score brownie points i’m sorry i had to say it
- okoye is hands down the most badass woman out there no powers no armor no shield no suit no fancy tech she’s just out there kicking ass with her spear and i appreciate her
- also this might be dumb but if carol is the strongest of all of them, why couldn’t she use the gauntlet and perhaps survive
- also it’s just stupid that they acted that carol was going to be such a big part of the movie but she was there for maybe 2 hot seconds
- seeing that crusty purple small dick grape finally get dusted was all kinds of satisfying
- “we won mr stark” “i’m sorry tony” and “you can rest now” fucking destroyed me thanks
- i’m going to fucking miss tony so much i’ve cried so much
- he’s literally been my favorite superhero for 11 years Fuck
- proof that tony stark has a heart also destroyed me bitch i am GRIEVING
- who’s gonna make the abnoxious sarcastic witty comments now Bitch the mcu lost so much with the death of tony stark
- also i really hope they show peter having some issues after all this i think it’s only realistic there’s a lot of trauma he went through
- harleyyyyyyy :)
- cheeseburgers :(
- also speaking of harley can he pick up the genius invention slack in the future i think that’d be so good
- queen brunnhilde <3 ur gonna do great
- where’s gamora?? also her timeline has got to be super fucked up now
- is thor gonna be in guardians 3??
- also it’s a bit upsetting that even with the snap that brought everyone back, half thor’s people are still dead bc they died before the snap
- ned and petey reunion <3
- caps ending has me a little conflicted because yes it’s nice that he got his happy life and everything but i am gonna be one of those people who thinks it’s a bit out of character
- also if i’m being honest, tony and caps endings should’ve been switched i feel like, tony really needed to be able to have his happy ending and stop blaming himself and living with that guilt i think he deserved that closure and also having that character on standby for future movies seems super useful to push some plots forward?
- and with cap his whole thing was that he really wasn’t supposed to live past that plane crash and i felt like if his character was gonna go out it would be the way that tonys did bc i mean the man stood up in front of a whole freakin army before he knew help was coming
- that aside i think bucky should’ve gotten the shield, mostly because i think that’s only fair but also sam already has falcon, but all bucky has is the winter soldier and that has all types of bad shit attached to it so idk i think to make him captain would’ve been better
- i do think bucky knew what cap was gonna do he literally said “i’m gonna miss you” before he left even though he was supposed to have been back in 5 seconds his time and he didn’t look freaked out at all when he didn’t also he told sam to go ahead and talk to steve that bitch Knew
- also the sun didn’t fucking shine and i’m pissed they completely fucking desreguarded his entire monologue in that scene
- if tony and nat don’t get big ass memorial statues im going to sue
- also i hope peter and morgan have a cute sibling relationship please it’s what we need
- the sound of the first iron man suit being built at the end really got me and it was only 2 seconds of Sound
- but i wish we got an actual end credit scene like scenes with tony and morgan or something that teases far from home or some homage to the A6 idk it was underwhelming to not have a scene
- also i can’t watch any marvel movies now without being REALLY sad so there’s that i’m a little bit of a disaster
- i think overall this movie overlooked a lot of development that went on before hand and in that sense i think it lost a lot, but in terms of how the story went down i think it was good there was just a few things i wish they added (thor and loki ahem ahem) and honestly the movie should’ve been longer w an interlude but it was good + worth the watch i’m just a huge emotional wreck
- (also a side note: i’ve seen some people questioning why others are so upset over these fictional characters and it’s because yes we have attachments to the characters but also the actors, and after the characters die the actors won’t be in any more of these movies and we won’t see any more of their content or interaction with the rest of the cast and that shit is sad we’re gonna miss them so there are some tears)

ENDGAME THOUGHTS
So here it is. The longest post I’ll ever write, so bear with me. (I’m not kidding, this is HUGE).
I watched Endgame at 7 pm yesterday… Came back home at 11. And I posted that I would try to sleep and make this post today. You know how many hours I slept? Four. And I finally fell asleep at 3.30 am.
I will try to say all my thoughts on this post, so if I miss something, I’m sorry. (Note: although I like more characters, the IronFam, pepperony, irondad… Will be the main concerns here, so anti Tonys, get the fuck out)
SPOILERS AHEAD
I will try to say things that I liked first, then the ones that I didn’t like, and then we’ll get to the OG6 ends, okay? Okay.
THINGS I LIKED:
The whole movie has that atmosphere that this was it. The Endgame. And it really makes you anxious for the characters.
Clint’s first scene with his family is heartbreaking
Tony being so soft (a dad) with Nebula was fucking everything
Although it was expected,  Carol rescuing Tony and Nebula was great. (I guess it’s because the message for Pepper was received… because then why was she waiting there?)
Tony saying “I lost the kid” killed me, and then he finally calms down when Pepper hugs him
Tony’s kiss on Pepper’s cheek
Tony cutting out Steve’s bullshit had me going “Yeah, honey! That’s it”
Seriously, he looks (and feels) like shit. And he gets the strength to get up, rip off his IV, and call him out before his body can’t stand anymore
What’s left of the team trying to fix it all, going to Thanos without second thoughts and killing him once and for all (okay, maybe not “forever”, but you know… Thor finally went for the head)
That “5 years later” gasp, seeing how the world is “moving on” after the decimation
Everyone’s fucking done, and tired, and hopeless (e.g. Nat, Steve, Rocket and Nebula, Rhodey, Clint…)
Nat’s break down, trying to stay positive about Clint, and about everything (also, Rhodey helping her, looking for Clint… Because in this blog, we love and respect Colonel James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes)
Scott getting back from the quantum realm after (for him) 5 hours, to finally reunite with his now grown up daughter
Tony “moving on” (kinda). He has the life he said he wanted since AoU, with Pepper as his wife and his daughter, and living on a beautiful farm, away from everyone
Tony being the BEST DAD the MCU will ever see (no hate on Clint or Scott tho, it’s just my opinion). He loves her so much, and she loves her daddy too (3000
Morgan with the Rescue helmet
Tony kissing it
He carrying her inside to have dinner
The team getting to his house for help, cause he’s the only one that can do it
That shot of Tony pouring drinks for everyone in which we see his wedding band (because, of course, and like RDJ, Tony is that kind of man)
He being selfish about trying what Scott said. He has every right to be. Although Peter’s not there, he has Morgan. And he wants to be there for her. He’s allowing himself to be selfish for the first time in 15 years (being 2023 in the MCU right now… I think… technically…)
But… he’s Tony Stark. The selfless man the world will ever know. He can fix it, and he will
Nat, Scott and Steve talking with Bruce… or Hulk… or Proffesor Hulk (let’s call him Bruce)
Tony being domestic: doing the dishes, tucking his daughter in, the “I love you 3000″, and him being so cute with Morgan like… “whoa, honey, that’s a lot… that’s more than ‘tons’"
Him resolving the problems of the “time-travels” in a couple of hours… I stan one man… Also, Morgan seeing her daddy work and getting ice-cream before going to sleep. Again, the best dad
Once again, Tony being domestic talking with Pep (aka his wife, aka the love of his life, aka the mother of his daughter, aka his goddess, boss and queen), asking her what should he do, and Pepper, like always, being his voice of reason
Scott and Bruce trying to work with the quantum realm
Tony driving to the compound like the badass he is (also, while being a badass, still being a dad and putting toys and a teddy bear out the way of Cap’s shield)
Bruce and Rocket looking for Thor, the appereance of Valkyrie, Korg and Miek, and Thor playing Fortnite. (I found all of Thor’s scenes very funny, but at the same time I didn’t feel like it was okay to laugh about it. He’s clearly depressed during the whole film, and every character-like every person- deal with depression and ways to cope in different ways… so I don’t think that laughing at Fat Thor was nearly okay)
Clint being a badass
His scene with Nat, holding hands
Rhodey with the best fucking idea of the movie (go back in time to baby Thanos, and… you know the rest). Again, I love this man
Bruce freaking out about it. And explaining the way the MOVIE works
Clint being succesful on the first try
The WHOLE scenes of the “domestic” team, getting up ideas of how they’re going to recollect the stones (Loved every single one of them, and I would gladly watch a film that was all about Nat, Tony and Bruce lying on a table and talking)
Jane Foster making a come-back (kinda)… Also, Thor is me when I’m doing a presentation
Rocket calling Scott “puppy”
The team prepared. The whole “you know your teams, you know your missions” speech
The “unseen” parts of Avengers 1, after they got Loki
Scott giving 2012-Tony a heart attack and 2012-Thor helping with Mjolnir. All while actual-Tony gets the tesseract (for a while)
All of Rocket-Thor scenes in Asgard
Rhodey and Nebula laughing at Quill
2012-Cap vs actual-Cap (+America’s Ass), and the elevator scene
The ancient one and Bruce conversation
The whole thing with past and present Nebula
Stan Lee’s cameo
Tony and Steve going to 1970. Tony (aka Howard Potts… I died when his wife’s name is the first one that comes to his mind) talking to Howard Stark, having a dad to dad conversation, and Edwin Jarvis cameo. Meanwhile, Steve seeing Peggy.
Nat sacrifice for Clint. Clint crying afterwards…
The team decided to not let her sacrifice be in vain (+Bruce’s reaction)
Bruce undoing the snap
Past-Gamora helping actual-Nebula (+killing old-Nebula)
Thor, Steve and Tony fight with Thanos (while the rest of the team is trying to get the gauntlet)… (+THAT scene of Steve and Mjolnir)
THAT FUCKING SCENE WHERE ALL OF THE FALLEN AVENGERS COME BACK (+RESCUE!!) AND STEVE FINALLY SAYS “AVENGERS ASSEMBLE”
SERIOUSLY, THAT WHOLE SCENE
Rescue and Iron Man fighting back to back like the power couple they are
Rescue-Mom giving Spiderman and the gauntlet a ride
Tony and Peter reunion *sobbing* (+Groot and Rocket, +Hope and Scott, +Quill and Gamora)
THAT SCENE WITH ALL THE WOMEN FIGHTING TOGETHER (Pepper being the badass she fucking is!!)… The only woman I missed was Nat… *sobbing again*
TONY’S “I AM IRON MAN”
PEPPER’S “ITS OKAY… YOU CAN REST NOW”
PETER SOBBING. PEPPER SOBBING. RHODEY HOLDING PETER
PETER GOING BACK TO NED AND MAY
THE VIDEO. “I LOVE YOU 3000″
THE FUNERAL WITH ALL THE TEAM (+HARLEY)
RHODEY AND HAPPY COMFORTING EACH OTHER BEHIND MORGAN AND PEP
“PROOF THAT TONY STARK HAS A HEART”
UNCLE HAPPY AND THE FUCKING CHEESEBURGUERS
Thor going with the Guardians (+Quill looking for Gamora)
Clint with his fam
Scott with his fam
Steve giving the shield to Sam
(this is kinda)-> Steve going to Peggy
In conclusion: MY HEART IS FUCKING BROKEN FOR THIS MOVIE, but nontheless I “loved” it
Okay… so now that we are done… Let’s talk about what I didn’t like:
I needed more Pepper/Tony moments, and more Pepper “mommy” moments
Uncle Happy was great… BUT WHAT ABOUT UNCLE RHODEY!
Steve, get out of the fucking way! Tony doesn’t need you now (at the begining of the movie). He needs Pepper, and Rhodey, and food, water and sleep
Rhodey not getting a hug with Tony at the begining of the movie
Not May/Tony conflict/crying over their ‘son’
I don’t know if I like Howard’s and Tony’s talk… I do like it, but idk. I guess that in the movies he wasn’t physically abusing to him… But at least he gets to talk with his dad and he realizes he’s a very good dad with Morgan (aka, his “little girl” *sobs*)
TONY DESERVES BETTER. THE WHOLE IRONFAM DESERVES BETTER. MORGAN, PEPPER, RHODEY, HAPPY, PETER… MY GOSH, EVEN THE BOTS AND FRIDAY (I can’t talk about him in past tense, I’m sorry. I’m just in denial)
THAT FUCKING CHEESEBURGUER LINE (I swear, I will never get over that fucking line)
Steve getting to live his “endgame” with Peggy, leaving everyone behind (aka Bucky and Sam, but mostly Bucky) and being FUCKING SELFISH (in my eyes… and for what I’ve read, in a lot of actual Cap’s fans too)
How come that “the man who lays in the wire” is the one that leaves, and “the man who would cut the wire” is the one that fucking LAYS ON IT (again)
Alright. Now I’m going to talk about the OG6 ends. Although I have leave my points of view up… But I still want to talk about it more thoroughly:
Clint: Finally, Clint got his protagonism in the team. He’s going to do “whatever it takes” (and he means WHATEVER) to bring his family back. I liked his end, there’s nothing more to discuss about it.
Bruce: Yeah, Bruce finally got the best of both worlds, the mind and the strength… But what’s he going to do now?
Thor: Thor’s end was okay (IMO)… He doesn’t have the strength to be the king anymore… But Valkyrie does. And he has great chemistry with the Guardians, so I didn’t mind him going with them.
Nat: Nat’s ending was great. Let me explain. I didnt like that she died. But I felt it very on character… She has no family, her family are the avengers. And she wants to bring them back. Clint is like her brother (I’m a little into Clintasha tbh, but I accept that they give them that brother/sister relationship long ago. It proofs that not all the male/female friendships have to end in a romantic relationship), and she did anything she could to undo the snap during 5 fucking years.
Steve: Hated it (him). Yeah, you “loved” Peggy… Whatever. (The Russos trying to put Steggy as the Royal ship when everyone KNOWS that that title belongs, AND WILL ALWAYS BELONG, to Pepper and Tony). He’s just looking at the past, he has never moved on, and he never will. He let Tony gave up his family (at the age of 53… god, he had a lot to live for) and then he left Bucky behind (and the whole Hydra mess too), when he always was so nuisance about him all these years…
Tony: Hate/Love it. I love it because it’s the way of fully close the circle of this whole journey, and he’s the SAVIOR of the fucking MCU, now and always. Haters can shut their mouths now after what he did…
I hate it because… He’s my baby. He finally had the life he craved for all these years. Married to Pep, with his baby girl; trophy husband, doting father… and now he’s… gone. He’ll never see Morgan grow up (her first day at college, her first bf/gf, her graduation, her wedding, his grand-kids… any of it), he’ll never see Peter go to college either. Pepper will see all of that alone (not completely, because Happy and Rhodey will always be there, but someone will be always missing). Morgan won’t ever doubt that her daddy loves her, but still he won’t be there to kiss her goodnight, nor to tell her shitty bed time stories. (God, I’m crying again… and I really want to say I am joking, but I’m not).
Tony fucking DESERVED BETTER.
The whole IRONFAM DESERVED BETTER.
Rhodey hold his head and pet his hair, with tears in his eyes that he refuses to let out. Peter calling him Tony for the first time ever… “We won”
Also, Pepper is the STRONGEST WOMAN IN THE MCU. No one will EVER change my mind. She went into battlefield to help her husband, to protect their kid, and she hates violence. She fought beside him, helped defeat Thanos… And, when Tony (her Tony) was dying… She kneeled next to him, to reassure him that they would be okay, that he “can rest now”. And she didn’t break until he was gone. So the last thing he would see was her being the calm, competent person he knows she is. SHE FUCKING WAITS TILL HE’S GONE. SHE HOLDS HER TEARS AND HER SOBS SO HE WOULD FEEL OKAY. SO THAT HE COULD REST. And then, when the light of his arc reactor is out, and his hand is no longer in hers, she let it all out. She kissed his cheek one last time and sobs with her face buried in his neck… And I can’t deal with it.
Tony’s last message… “I love you 3000″ is another heartbreak. And the “Proof that Tony Stark has a heart” is the best… But the fucking cheeseburguers… If I weren’t sobbing and trembling during all that, the cheeseburguer was the charm that made me explode. It was over. It was really over. And that line made it true.
And the point is… I can’t read fanfics now. Nor see fanarts, fanvids, edits, you name it. Hell, I don’t think I’ll be able to watch any movie with Tony in it with the same eyes anymore… Any of the Iron Man movies, Homecoming, Civil War… It’s just too much. I won’t be able to watch Iron Man 1 again the same as I did before… with the cheeseburguer, and Pepper tears because she “hates job hunting”, Yinsen and his question about family, or the first time Tony flies out of his garage, with that huge, happy smile on his face.
Every time that I see 3000, I get fucking sad. And I was crying when I got home yesterday. When I calmed down a bit, I entered Instagram and Robert posted that photo of him and Jimmy Rich “holding” the A of Avengers and the tag #iloveyou #3000 and I fucking cried again… Fuck, I’ve been crying while writing all of this post.
I’m not even able to read some fluff fanfic from a couple of years ago… Pre-Infiniry war era to cheer me up. It just makes me sadden.
And… I think that’s it… I hope someone will read aaaaall my rant, but I can’t sum anything up.
.
TONY STARK, I LOVE YOU 3000 (ALWAYS WILL)

11/11/11
I was tagged by @demidemonwrites and @ezwriting. Thanks you guys and sorry this took so long to write!
I know I will be breaking the rules to some extent, but I will be answering both their sets of 11 questions here. I don’t have exactly 11 people to tag, let alone 22 at the moment haha. Sorry!
Demidemonwrites’ questions!
1) Least favorite writing trope?
I’m going to be honest, I’m not entire sure. I’ve never thought of this before. I actually went through a couple forums where people are telling their least favorite tropes to see if anything struck with me. Honestly, I couldn’t find anything. Maybe I haven’t read a lot to know what I don’t like or if I’m just not that picky. I guess if things are written well I’ll be down with anything.
I guess if I had to pick one, it would have to be “the good guy is actually the villain” trope. With Frozen I remember when I first sat down in the theater and thinking “Haha what if Hans was the villain” and then BOOM I was right. There was some other movie I watched where I called one of the good guys being the villain, but I can’t remember what it was.
2) Which of your characters are underdeveloped but you want to develope more?
My current new character for My Hero Academia, Yuriko Umeda. She’s the first character since my Marvel character, Tracey Madison, that I’m super excited to work on and write for!
3) Do you prefer writing stories or worldbuilding?
I prefer writing stories. I’ve mostly written fanfiction and gone off of worlds from fandoms. But I have recently been practicing worldbuilding by attempting to add onto the already existing worlds. I have an original story in the works, but I haven’t touched it in nearly four years. It’s there, but I’m struggling with it. Maybe one day I’ll finally figure it out. But yes, I like writing stories more so than worldbuilding at the moment.
4) Where do you do most of your writing? (In bed, at a desk, ect...)
Literally anywhere. I write on my computer and on my phone on Google Docs so writing is portable for me. I do tend to write more on my bed or on a couch. I guess somewhere where I’m comfy.
5) If you have multiple ocs, what do you do to keep all their info organized?
Hahahaha I don’t. I’m pretty sure there have been times where I created a character in my head, came back to them months or even years later and forgot what their name was. I used to write a list of characters I created (even ones that I didn’t have stories for) back in high school, but now I don’t. I guess I just remember characters I really like. If I write for them I remember them of course, but if they are characters I have in my head and create a story for them then I tend to remember those characters. Although, I probably should start keeping them organized somehow.
6) Do you write your ideas down or are they mostly in your head?
Both. I tend to come up with ideas in my head (as everyone does haha) and when I have time I write them down on my notes section of my google doc for the story. But I also have ideas written down and in my head. Small ideas come to mind every now and then that I forget about that pop back up or they are minor details that I’ll write in as I write the story.
7) What is your character(s) favorite food?
Yuriko’s favorite food is omu rice.
Tracey’s is Hawaiin pizza.
Barry’s would be fried rice.
Aria’s is cookies.
Wes likes pretzels. Crunchy or soft he loves them.
Lyra’s is meatloaf.
I haven’t thought of Barry’s, Wes’, or Lyra’s before but those popped in my head. It might change, not sure haha.
There are probably other characters that I can’t think of at the moment or characters that I haven’t written for in forever that I just omitted from this list. These are my recent projects.
8) Out of all your character, which has the best story arc?
I guess Tracey? She’s the character who I actually write a complete story for instead of abandoning it. To this day I’m not sure how I did it, but I did. I have four stories completed in the series with her in it. The second one I liked, but looking back on it there’s some stuff I’d like to change in it. But I also think with that story I was able to develop her character more after that.
9) Do you prefer heroes, villains, or anti-heroes?
D. All of the above. I like characters who are well written. Even if its a villain I will like their character.
10) What character have you had the longest?
My longest character would be from my very first fanfic ever, but I don’t want people looking into that one hahaha! Out of my recent characters its definitely Tracey and Barry.
11) Favorite villian trope?
This was another thing that I’ve never thought about before and once again I looked into lists of villain tropes. I think I like bad just to be bad. One of my favorite villains is Joker and he’s evil just because. Another trope (if you count it as a trope or personality) is crazy. Harley Quinn, Junko Enoshima, and Himiko Toga are happy crazy and I don’t know why, but I love characters like that.
Ezwriting’s questions!
1. Do you listen to anything while you write? Music, television, white noise, etc.
I tend to have something on in the background, whether it’s music, TV, or YouTube. I just like to have background noise. I do like to use music to picture scenes for stories. There’s been times where I’m listening to a song randomly one day and I just picture a new scene that has that song playing as background music and I just add it to a story.
2. Can you describe your favorite character? Either yours or a beloved favorite from a book or any other media – I’d just love to hear about them.
Tracey and Barry are my MCU OCs. They are the Madison twins and they’ve been with me since I was a freshman in college. So about six years or so. That may have given away my age who knows lol.
Barry worked with SHIELD and was picked up right out of high school. Tracey didn’t know what he did until the Battle of New York where she basically interrogated him on his uniform. Tracey is a hacker. She majored in Computer Science (even though I know absolutely nothing about it) and she has been playing with computers since she was a kid. She had an interest in them.
Pepper was a friend of their mom’s so that’s how they met Tony and then the Avengers through Tony. Everything just falls into place or goes down hill from there!
I’ve worked so much on them that they have become my favorites. But at this point, I’m taking a hard hiatus on them and focusing on other characters.
3. When you write, do you have any particular requirements before you can start? (Have to be a specific somewhere, need music, etc.)
Nope! If I end up writing, I’m lucky. I have the worst attention span and lack of inspiration at times that the moment I sit down and try and write I end up watching the most random videos on YouTube or scroll through Tumblr. It’s bad haha.
4. Do you prefer to be hot or cool when writing? Do you snuggle up with blankets or have fans running, or are you somewhere in - between?
I’m in between. It depends on the day. Like right now I’m fine sitting on my couch in some comfy shorts and a shirt and write. But some times my legs might get cold and I’ll lay a blanket on them. But that’s usually if it’s cold out. I’m in between.
5. What kind of writing ‘quirks’ do you have?
None. I literally sit and write. I usually have background noises I mentioned in the first question (sometimes, very rarely, will I write in silence). I might have a cup of tea or a snack, but other than those I don’t think I have any writing quirks.
6. What is your favorite book or book series?
Harry Potter, Peter and the Star Catchers, and The Truth About Forever.
7. Is there anyone who inspires your writing?
@pen-in-hand @apocalyvse They’re writing is amazing!!
8. What first got you started in writing?
I honestly can’t even remember. I think it was this anime that’s my favorite called D Gray Man. A friend got me into it late 8th grade early freshman year of high school and I loved it. I was also a major major dork back then (probably still am but not as much) and had a crush on one of the characters that I wanted to create my own to add into the story. I think one of my friends told me about ff.net and I picked up a notebook and pen and started writing.
I do remember a couple times in elementary school where I had to write short stories. One I think I still have in my junk somewhere that was about a dog wanting to be a sled dog and the other was I had to write how the Oregon Trail was made. That one I don’t have, but I think I remember I wrote about how a girl ran into a goblin in a forest and had some competition with him over something. She ended up using this basket she had and used it to create the trail.
Elementary school Mel was wild. I don’t even know how I remember that Oregon Trail one. Star Kid pick up my story and make a prequel to Trail to Oregon.
9. What would you suggest to new writers?
Just write. Even if you think it’s bad, just write and post it. Someone is going to love it. You are also your worst critic. I look back at my first fanfic and CRINGE when I think about it. But I have reviews on it. I also look back on it and realize that I have improved so much since then. You improve as you write and you can only go up. If you enjoy it, keep writing.
10. Do you prefer to write first, second or third person?
Third person for sure!
11. How do deadlines affect your writing? Do they hinder or help you?
I don’t set deadlines for myself. Unless I’m writing something for a holiday or as a present to someone. I don’t do deadlines, but I think it would either help or hinder me. It would help me sit down and write, but I also think - knowing me - that I’d procrastinate and then rush to meet the deadline. Rushing would then result in my worst work I think. Maybe. But I just don’t do deadlines. I post when I want to.
My questions
1. Do you write fanfictions or original stories and did you ever write fanfiction?
2. Did you ever write your stories in the middle of class instead of paying attention?
3. How many notebooks do you have filled with your writing?
4. What’s your favorite way to write? Notebook, Word Doc, Google Docs?
5. Do you write by yourself or do you need people writing with you?
6. Have you ever cowritten with someone?
7. Who do you bounce ideas off of?
8. Have you ever taken an experience from your life and written it into a story?
9. Favorite type of music to listen to while you write.
10. Have you ever had anyone give you “advice” that hurt you and prevented you from writing for a while?
11. Have you ever had fans of your writing pester to write a certain way?
I tag @pen-in-hand @apocalyvse @starsandstormyseas @loopally @morganwriteblr @writing-and-nutmeg @luciandra-writing @nightwingshero @scouthearted @invernessie41 @odpadkywriter @alalawrites
I did 12 instead of 11 since I had two sets of questions haha!

mcu rewatch: iron man 3
aka my favorite iron man movie of the trilogy + all the other movies that are iron man movies
honestly when I’m not in fandom I really like tony - he’s a lot of fun to watch and he’s a very interesting character, and I think that’s very much on display in this movie.
I really, really like the fact that his PTSD is real and keeps coming up and gets in the way - it’s not just “dramatic flashbacks” but anxiety attacks, and has real consequences for him and his life (i.e. with Pepper)
p.s. I remember when people were calling Pepper “abusive” for the time she leaves when the armor pins her down in the middle of the night and like. get out of here with that shit
Maya Hansen deserved better. (no, seriously, she had so much potential. all these lady scientists in the MCU getting shafted, I count at least three at this point. wait, actually four, I forgot Helen Cho (so did the MCU))
I know a lot of people were mad about the Mandarin twist but I actually think it’s very good and very smart - he’s literally a manufactured terrorist threat engineered by an American corporation. he’s a boogeyman conjured based on existing fears - and meanwhile, the real terrorist is an angry white man.
once again, a movie where Tony’s past mistakes come back to haunt him. the whole “we create our own demons” story is one that echoes in every Tony movie, and then again in Ultron, and it’s made very explicit here.
Harley is the best kid.
other than the Mandarin bait-and-switch, Aldrich Killian was really a profoundly boring villain.
the more interesting story was the “Tony stripped down and finding that he can still manage without his suits” - Tony is always at his most interesting, I think, when what he’s working with isn’t fancy tech but rather his ingenuity and mechanical/engineering know-how. that’s what I like about his interactions with Harley - he’s not a “genius billionaire playboy etc.” - he’s “a mechanic.”
“that was really violent” oh my god Pepper was the real MVP of this movie, change my mind
I love that she got the final shot at Killian, I really do
“she was already perfect” god I love Pepper/Tony so much, they’re just such a good couple and their dynamic is great
this is the second movie in the entire MCU since Thor to pass the Bechdel Test, and I’m pretty sure the only one until Black Panther (Maya and Pepper talking about idealism and science)
but also RHODEY I love Rhodey so much and he was gold in this movie, what a god damn superhero
anyway - that’s about it for this movie. next up: the dark world, aka that movie I have a lot of really unwarranted positive feelings about.

Ali Redoes the Marvel Universe
So instead of sleeping I decided to map out the MCU the right way my way.
So starting with Ironman I wouldn’t change too much except instead of him hooking up with Christine Everhart in the beginning it’s a dude, maybe the dudes a dick, maybe not, it doesn’t really matter. But it is a dude and no one is surprised.
The Hulk is completely redone with Ruffalo, the Abomination is still the villain but Betty plays a bigger part and Jennifer Walters is in it, at the end there’s a part where Jennifer may or may not become She-Hulk (she definitely does ilhsm)
Ironman 2 is still the same, I have no real complaints about that, Pepper has a bigger part to play, their romance is more fleshed out, more Rhodey bro moments. It’s also made more apparent that Tony was severely abused as a child. #HowardStarkWasaBadDad
Thor is more or less the same BUT there’s a part, somewhere, where they talk about Sigyn, Loki’s wife who died and he blames Thor which gives him actual motivation to hate his brother other than being annoyed about constantly picking up his messes. Loki is more fleshed out/tragic and the audience understands why he does what he does more. And Thor and Jane don’t have a weird/creepy romance, and Sif is played by someone better/buffer and she and Thor are married.
Captain America is, again, more or less the same only with more emphasis on his age and the fact that he never completed basic training and he’s basically just lucking his way through this war. We really feel for him when he wakes up in the future, but we’re not under the illusion that he has any idea what he’s doing. Also he and Bucky are a couple, Peggy is very supportive.
The Avengers happens, only Thor makes it very clear from the get go that Loki is clearly not himself and is acting under the influence of Someone (Thanos). Hulk snaps him out of it in the end and Loki is revealed to be Very Ill, he gives them invaluable intel on Thanos.
Ironman 3, again, more or less the same. Still heavy Pepeprony, only difference is the rest of the Avengers Exist and are Present, even if it’s only in the background as they worry about their buddy. Maybe a comment about how they’re working on helping repair New York. Ending scene where Harley meets the team, cause reasons.
Thor 2 is pretty vastly different, mostly in that Thor and Jane are not a couple, Sif is a bigger part of the story, Loki’s helping out being a snarky bastard and he and Thor make progress on their issues. Odin is more complicit in the elves and Thor comes to recognize this as A Problem.
Captain America TWS is mostly the same only Tony is involved, even if just peripherally he’s Involved. Sharon is a badass and she and Steve don’t flirt with each other, Steve opens up to Nat about Bucky. Sam is still awesome, SHIELD still falls, Nat collabs with Tony to pick up the pieces. Tony helps Steve find Bucky.
Guardians is entirely the same, that movie is perfect, I love it so much. Maybe just add a Moondragon reference that’s all I ask.
Avengers 2 it’s clearly established that the Avengers live at the Tower, even Thor who’s on the outs with his dad, Tony is highly appreciated and valued by the team as it’s senior member, Steve is acknowledged to be the Least Qualified to Lead ANYONE thank you. Ultron happens, yes they’re upset, but less cruel about it. Wanda and Pietro did NOT join a nazi organization willingly THEY ARE FUCKING JEWISH fuck, maybe Hydra has them under mind control idk but it’s not willing. Pietro survives because he is FASTER THAN BULLETS FOR FUCKS SAKE, Wanda goes into magic training/therapy on Asgard with Frigga and Loki. There’s an end scene where Wanda notices something cosmicy that means Sigyn is alive THANK YOU.
Hulk 2 Because Ruffalo deserves more, this is mostly about Jennifer and Betty and Bruce being an adorable ruffled disaster boi. Jennifer becomes She-Hulk, Betty leaves Doc for Bruce. They’re very cute.
Antman literally exactly the same, nothing to change, it’s a wonderful movie.
Captain America Civil War garbage, just throw it away. Tony found Bucky at the end of the last movie, he’s in rehab. INSTEAD
Black Widow The Movie the accords happen, we meet spiderman and black panther somehow, Nat’s past with Zemo is revealed BECAUSE ITS WAY MORE SIGNIFICANT THAN STEVE FUCK Clint and her have lots of Friendship Moments, Steve can’t help because he’s locked himself in a room with Bucky, none of us really wants to know what they’re doing. Natasha is revealed to be a Bisexual Icon (tm), the movie ends with a Sigyn reveal and a Big Clue about Thanos. Thank you Nat, everyone claps.
Doctor Strange exactly the same, minus his romance with Christine, add a little more of the Tragic Backstory and Dead Sister, end with a reference to Clea his beautiful and deadly future wife.
Guardians 2 completely different, the Ego thing was weird af, Peter’s dad is J’son of Spartoi, he wants Peter to succeed him as Emperor, Peter has mixed feelings about this, his half sister tries to kill him, ensue hilarious battle. Drax gives some more clues to his Weird Backstory (it’s so weird I love it) Adam Warlock appears in the end. He and Peter don’t get along. Lots of dad!Yondu moments, he doesn’t die, we all love him lots.
Spiderman more or less exactly the same, I love that movie. peripherally we learn that Vision and Wanda are hanging out more, Loki took Sigyn to Asgard, we’re all Very Curious, Peter is adorable.
Thor 3 completely different, not that I didn’t love Ragnarok, but it really didn’t fit in the timeline. Honestly. We learn that Odin banished Loki’s children and lied about killing them, Angrboda returns, there’s a very dramatic Family Fight. Thor helps overthrow his dad, Loki gets his kids and his second wife back. They begin planning for Thanos. Also we can maybe introduce Valkyrie and Aldriff. Cause they’re really cool.
Black Panther T’Challa becomes king, idk how his dad died but it happened during the Black Widow movie, the same thing happens with Killmonger and stuff. Shuri has a Tony Stark Fangirl moment (because fuck you she’s not smarter just cause she has better materials, if Tony had magic rocks he’d make cooler stuff too. He had scraps and he made a fucking super suit)
Avengers Infinity War They’re way better prepared, Tony and Bruce ousted Ross who’s now in jail, the Accords are working very well. Thanos still delivers a devastating attack, Tony, Strange, Peter and the Guardians still end up in space. Through the efforts of Loki and Sigyn Thanos is defeated at the last second. Sigyn reveals that he was only acting on behalf of Death herself.
Antman and The Wasp basically the same minus the dust thing at the end. That doesn’t happen.
Captain Marvel exactly the same, don’t touch a damn thing that thing is a damn masterpiece. Okay I lied, Carol and Maria makeout for like a minute in the middle, it’s very touching.
Avengers Endgame Moondragon shows up, she and Drax have a Hilarious conversation, her girlfriend is awesome. Weird cosmic weirdness happens, Deadpool reference, lots of Tony and Peter moments, Pepper reveals that she’s pregnant, big end battle with Death, Ride of the Valkyries in the end as Brunnhilde and Aldriff ride in leading the armies of the Nine Realms against Death Herself, played by Cate Blanchett. (because Hel is Loki’s daughter damnit, she’s creepy but not evil)
We end on Tony and Peppers wedding, Steve and Bucky are holding hands, Peter is crying, Quill keeps giving Gamora Looks, Mantis and Nebula have A Moment, Cassie meets Harley and they have a snark off, Scott is very proud. Phil shows up as a surprise, Clint cries, Natasha punches him and Tony has to sit down for a moment. Bucky catches the bouquet.
The next Spiderman movie is about Peter becoming an Avenger now that Tony is officially retired. The next Captian Marvel is a resolution of the Skrull Wars involving the Lost Prince Dorrek IV, In the next Black Panther T’Challa and Nakia get married, Okoye and M’Baku have an affair. The next Doctor Strange centers on Clea and the Dark Dimension, Stephen becomes Sorcerer Supreme, he tries and fails to flirt with Wanda who’s now with Vision. Pietro makes a snarky cameo. There’s a Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver movie involving the Inhumans and space stuff. Pietro and Crystal get their shot. Black Widow gets an origin film. Throughout all of this we see an increasing problem with young superhumans, this problem is mirrored in the marvel tv shows, all of it leading up to a massive MCU crossover even; Avengers Civil War, when a teen super group, the Runaways, inadvertently cause the death of 60 children. This kicks off the Super Human Registration Program, which ends in a big superhero fight which ends in Tony leaving retirement to head of the Avengers Academy, Clint becomes a teacher, Steve retires to marry Bucky and train the next generation. All is well in the universe, Strange is Sorcerer Supreme, Thor rules Asgard, Loki and his two wives are raising their children in peace, Wakanda is sharing their technology with the world. All is well.
....which leads to...The X Men Adventures!!

This came in on Ask, but I will answer in a regular post so folks can see the whole set of questions and answers:
anthony-edward-stark-is-my-hero said:
Hi! There is this guy on Twitter called Jeremy Conrad who seems to know a lot of stuff about Avengers 4 and it seems that most of his information is legit. A couple of weeks ago he leaked that the Avengers 4 title is "Annihilation" and later Mark Ruffalo sort of confirmed in on Jimmy Fallon's show. Plus, he stands pretty firmly behind his words regarding the title. So, he also leaked another spoiler regarding the actress Katherine Langford who is also casted for A4 in a mysterious role. (1/4)
(2) He claims that she will play Tony and Pepper's daughter in the movie. Do you believe this is true? And most importantly how do you feel about the idea? There's been rumors that A4 will be about time travel but I think the writers debunked this theory, so the other most likely possibility is dealing with the quantum realm and alternate universes. Given the fact that the actress is quite older to be born and raised in the present, she is probably Tony's daughter from a parallel universe.
3) I personally have bad feelings about this since I quite enjoy Tony and Peter's father-son relationship, plus Harley from IM3 will be in A4 too. They both are like Tony's adopted kids and their bond has been explored in previous movies and there's much deeper emotional connection. Adding an unknow character for more unnecessary dramatical effect I think is stupid.
(4) So much will be going on in this movie and so many characters are already involved, they should focus on already existing relationship and storylines than adding more and more new people. Anyway, just wanted to know your thoughts on this rumor. Thank you for your time.
ANSWER: Well - there are always a lot of rumors that fly around in advance of hotly anticipated movies, and I hesitate to either believe in them fully or dismiss them fully.  Jeremy Conrad sort of makes a living -- or at least an avocation that gets him press passes into premieres and etc. -- posting, blogging and vlogging about the MCU, so it would seem he has a modicum of credibility to protect, or else people wouldn’t follow him. So his posts are probably more legit than most.
I don’t know that I’d believe what he says absolutely whole-heartedly, because the PTB at the MCU are probably tossing out red herrings galore to mislead the fan media as well as the mainstream media -- and why would they not? It’s been happening at least since the infamous “Serpent Society” feint thrown by none other than Feige himself, so we KNOW they will boldfaced LIE to protect the secrecy of what’s upcoming. They are quite adept at doing it -- and you know what? I don’t blame them. It’s all in fun, no one is hurt because of it (except people with egg on their faces who believe the misleads...*cough*thosewhostillbelieveSerpentSocietywasanActualThing*cough*) and it does protect the storylines from being spoiled months in advance. This is actually to protect us and our enjoyment of the movie. Who wants it spoiled??  I may be gnawing off my own arm by May in dread and anticipation of what will happen -- and particularly what will happen to Tony -- but that doesn’t mean I want the whole thing spoiled in advance.
What THAT being said, well, what do I feel IF it’s true that Katherine Langford is being cast as Tony and Pepper’s grown-up daughter, perhaps in another dimension or time or quantum realm?
Well -- first, brilliant casting. She’s a smart, articulate actress (as we know from “Thirteen Reasons Why”) and I could see her as Tony and Pepper’s daughter.
And second - I guess I’m...ambivalent?...about it. As in, I don’t know enough about it yet to be able to form an opinion. We just don’t have the facts yet.
Look at it this way -- IF the storyline sees fit to go backward or forward in time, or to leap dimensions or quantum strings or whatever, then they’re doing that for a reason. If we’re seeing Tony’s grown-up child in one quantum reality, maybe we’ll be seeing different realities for the other Avengers, too, so they’ll all be in the same boat.
This has been a science fiction/fantasy trope forever -- the “what if?” alternate reality. Does it mean that it’s “real” in the fictional real world we’ve come to know and love in the MCU?  Well - it’s real in that other dimension/time/realm. But quantum physics and string theory tell us that there may be infinite “realities” out there -- almost anything we can imagine. If Tony has a grown-up daughter in one reality, he may have a grown-up son or sons in another, or no kids at all in another, or he may be with another woman other than Pepper.
What if all the OG Avengers get to be in a position to CHOOSE which “reality” they want to stay in, and that’s how they end their current stories in the MCU, opening the way for the new Avengers?  IF the “realities” are like string theory, and what happens in one can’t affect what happens in the others, then maybe they might get to choose. Maybe it will be like a temptation dangled in front of them: to stay in a peaceful reality with no alien invasions and no Thanos snap. Would Steve want to go back to his WWII reality and marry Peggy?  Would Natasha want to go back pre-Red Room and make different choices? Would Tony want to peacefully stay with Older Pepper and his grown daughter? (And would they be somehow taking the place of the Steve or Nat or Tony who are  already THERE in those realities? And how would THAT work? Lots of questions...!
But -- quantum physics is a very, very, VERY weird universe (I’ve written several articles about new discoveries in quantum physics, so take it from me...! It’s freaking WEIRD...!!), and the potentialities in the MCU’s “Quantum Realm” are quite literally endless. The screenwriters could do anything with time or space or matter, and quantum physics would just say “Yeah -- could happen! Probably has -- or will! Or both!”
OR -- would these heroes choose instead to come back to their Thanos-threatened universe and stay and fight and save THEIR OWN universe and the time THEY come from? Now THAT would be a cool story.
But I guess what I’m trying to say is: we have to trust the screenwriters and the direction of the MCU. I don’t think they’ll be throwing a grown-up daughter into Tony’s life forever. It’s too much of a diversion from his hero journey, which is what I have to believe A4 will really be about.  No screenwriter in their right mind would ignore the hero journey and give any of these heroes an “easy” way out -- nor would they ignore the compelling father-son relationship Tony has already built up with Peter Parker, or rob the audience of seeing them reunite. My guess would be that the daughter exists in one alternate timeline or quantum realm but not necessarily in the MCU’s main timeline. She’s just a potential, not a given in this reality. So I wouldn’t get too worked up about it.
Bottom line: I am GUESSING. Which, of course, we all are.
By the way, I do agree with you about the “so much is going on” and “so many characters are involved.” I’ve felt that way since after the first Avengers movie. I thought then that there were SO many adventures and stories that the Original Six could have had, as they got to know each other better and began to work together like a well-oiled team. And it still annoys me that we were pretty much robbed of that when the MCU decided to lard in more and more Avengers (who really weren’t needed) while the Avengers we already KNEW and loved got short-shrifted on their storylines. Yes, it’s true that the comics lard in more and more Avengers and that the team has shifted and morphed many times on the comics page. But that’s the COMICS, which have endless time to spin out their stories -- months and years -- and a very limited audience.  Movies are different. Movie storylines need to play out in two-plus hours a couple of times a year, if we’re lucky -- and with the Avengers as a team, more like two-plus hours two or three years apart. In front of a mass world audience.
Honestly, I felt like we JUST MET the O6 Avengers, and were barely just getting to know them and how they worked as a team -- and then suddenly all these new characters flooded in during AOU and CACW (and yeah, some of them were and are great -- especially Spider-Man and T’Challa.  And some were just, and still are, unnecessary...and you can probably guess which ones I mean...). And THEN on top of all the hero-crowding, they decide to have the VILLAIN (Thanos) get all kinds of screentime, when what we wanted was more screentime for the heroes...
Anyway, don’t get me started on the overcrowding of characters and the sacrificing of the movie storylines we have for the “good” of the upcoming MCU. I can say “trust the screenwriters,” but they done us wrong more than once, so there’s that. So I guess my reaction of “ambivalent” is probably the right one. So far.  Not that there’s anything we can do about anything - so, bring it on. (Fan fiction heals many wounds, just saying...)   This is just my 2 cents’ worth; other opinions may vary!

Anyway, it's early/late and I might not have another shot at this.
So...
CASA DEL SHANIE MK II TOUR
Photos under cut
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My Living Room (Left)
As you can see, I never even fully unpacked from moving in here. When I moved in here, it seemed bigger. It wasn't. It's actually smaller than my last place and a bunch of stuff never even made it out of storage because of it. It works out though. I hope to be rid of this place soon, so at least I don't have to pack that stuff back up.
(The Harley Quinn poster was my moving in gift to myself and then I promptly put a lamp in front of it...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Living Room (Right)
As you can see, there is no TV in here at all. Not even a small one. Just an absurd number of figures. The coffee table is figures, both shelves of figures, and that entire white unit is nothing but figure stuff. The kitchen table is for making figures and... well, you get the idea. At least the computer table is not 100% for figures (although they do get worked on there too) and you can't see it but there's a thrifted nightstand that the printer is sitting on that I didn't have before here.
Oh, in case you were wondering, no. There is nowhere to sit in my apartment other than the computer chair. That one kitchen chair is used when company comes over. There was supposed to be a recliner happening but when we got me in here and realized how small it is, it never happened. Hopefully wherever I go next though.
Tumblr media
Look into the kitchen. As you can see, SpongeBob and my Isis Dagger are still there. I don't know if the photo can show it or not, but that small DVD rack has an absurd number of DVDs on it all in space-saving cases. Those three red cases alone hold most of the MCU, with their case artworks being made by me for me. The blue X-Men one beside it is also made by me and holds almost that whole franchise while the white, written case next to it is the Skywalker Saga that is awaiting me to make it artwork.
Anyway, onto the bedroom
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bedroom!
Before anyone asks, yes. The bed is against the heater. Do not get me started on that shit, it's one of the reasons I want out of here.
As you can see, the bedroom also never got fully realized. Half my posters never got put up and it just looks incomplete. The white drawers in the corner are ALL Nail Polish while the shelf in the right photo is half full of Doctor Who DVDs and the other half is binders of fan fiction and trading cards. Take special notice of my darling Lizzie Bear in the photo on the right she insisted on being in the photo shoot.
And finally...
Tumblr media
The view opposite my bed.
(You didn't honestly think I wouldn't show my Kevin poster off here did you?)
Yes, Kevin watches me sleep. Again, don't get me started. The bed used to be against the window but according to the government that's a fire hazard which could only be fixed by putting the bed against the HEATER instead. I fn hate it get me out of here.
Anyway, more figures. They're pretty much everywhere at this point. The ones on the wall are my AEW MOC collection while the ones piled on the light box are ones that I intended to take photos of and it never happened.
Anyway, it's all neat in anticipation for a second inspection which at this point I expect to fail again because that's just how the universe has been playing me at this point. The first inspection, when I was failed over the bed by the window, the guy told me that if I wanted to pass I would have to BUY A SMALLER BED so I could put it against a 'safe wall". That was 100% his solution. 'You can't afford your full rent payment so go out and buy a new bed right now so we can help you financially.' because somehow my broke ass just has a couple thousand to drop on a new bed overnight. Anyway, I just shoved it against the heater in the hopes that I might pass but I doubt it.
So have photos of what will likely be the last time I have an apartment this neat.
I hope you all enjoyed my tour of Casa Del Shanie mk II. If I do manage to get a new place after this, I'll do a part 3 whenever I get in there. For now though, I have a nagging fear I will not only be stuck here but that I'm going to get kicked off housing assistance because of this shithole.
But whatever. If it happens, I'll put ten dollars in Sami's jar. That's just going to be my solution to everything at this point. Every time the universe fucks me or the people I follow over, I put money in the jar.
Anyway, thanks for looking!

MCU fic recs - completed stories
Here i’ll be listing my favorite mcu fics that are finished. in another list at another time i’ll be doing those that are wip and/or abandond. some of these fics might not exactly be “mcu” but they will be understandable and readable with only mcu knowledge.

Not Exactly What I Wanted by Tahlruil
summary:
Tony has always been happy to piss off Alphas who try to control him - especially Howard Stark. Unfortunately he managed to push his father just a little too far... and the man arranged to have him auctioned off to the highest bidder. Now he's married to a guy he hardly knows, one that is too damn patient and too damn nice. There's no way that isn't an act, and Tony is resolved to be a little shit until he finds out the limits of his husband's fake personality.
Though he's been back from the war for a while, Bucky has been left scarred by the experience. The most prominent one is the personality that came into being because of Hydra's torture and brainwashing attempts when he was captured. They were rescued before they became the Winter Soldier, but Winter is still very much sharing space in his head. Winter has never responded to anyone positively... until they met Tony at an auction Bucky had been dragged to by a former commanding officer. They are both captivated by the Omega and buy him despite their better judgement.
extra: this is a/b/o but soft, zero dub-con of any kind. The pairing is bucky/tony and the universe it takes place in is an AU. in case it wasn’t obvious this fic is romance centric (m/m). you can read this on ao3.bucky and the winter soldier are seperate personalities. doesn’t include explicit sex.

Forms of Love by bear_bell
summary:
Months after the Avengers' dispute in Germany, the team returns to the US and moves back into the tower. As always, everyone pretends that nothing happened. Tony is just fine with this. He's used to pretending, and he'll be damned if he lets any of them see him flinch.
Tony's the bad guy, after all. He's used to it. He's fine with it. He's good at it.
Only now, there's something far worse loitering around the tower - The Winter Soldier. No one notices the guy at first, but when they do, Tony figures that he should have the soldier's back.
Birds of a feather should flock together, and the bad guys should start a book club.

summary:
Tony tells Anna he will stay with her and won't complain. Won't try to escape, won't try to fight her or anyone else. He'll do anything, as long as they don't do to him whatever it is that they have done to Clint.
It won't be hard, he thinks, to get away from her. He's one of the smartest people in the world, and he'll figure it out, even if he has to construct an Iron Man suit from scratch and fly them out. They've been in tighter spots before and made it.They'll be fine in the end. Just fine.
He tells himself that for the next two years.
**or** Tony and Clint are held against their will by an absolutely crazy woman.
extra: this is a basically a genfic - isn’t romance centric, and focused on clint and tony’s friendship, this fic has lots of trigger warnings and includes lots of angst with minimal comfort.

Sins of the Father by Teeelsie
summary:
From this prompt on the avengerkink meme:
"I'm probably the only person who hasn't seen AoU yet, but I DO know that Clint has a family, and apparently is a pretty great Dad. Mixing that with comics canon that he had an abusive background? It's awesome that he managed to break the cycle like that and just be a great parent.
As for Tony, I think he's a lot more scared about having kids/turning into his father. There's a moment in Iron Man 3 with Harley, when the kid breaks off the suit's finger and he says sorry, and Tony just says "Are you?" in this hard tone before completely changing tracks and telling Harley not to worry about it. I get the feeling that he was beginning to mimic his father there, but the moment he recognized his behavior, he changed it. That's something I really respect.
So I'd like a moment between these two, dealing with Tony's worry about acting like his father, and Clint saying it doesn't have to be that way."
Basically, that.

Tony isn't a healthy man. He's fine with that, really. It makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, he has a job to do that kind of has his health as a major requirement. So he unmakes himself, remakes the Accords, protects every single child super that enters his field of view, and hopes ferociously that the Avengers never come back to the US. He doesn't spend any time at all rebuilding Bucky Barnes' life. Not a single second. Anything he does that contributes to him is simply an accident.
Bucky is a patient man. It's ok if Tony wants to ignore him for now. He won't be able to forever.

Peachy Keen by AnonEhouse
summary:
What if Tony decided in Siberia that he couldn't just go home? He was used to being the scapegoat, but this time the cost would be more than he could pay.
Ross would have the ammunition he needed to get Iron Man under his control, and what he'd do with the tech didn't bear thinking about.
Tony decided to use Protocol Pass The Torch. He'd be fine. A penniless fugitive's life would make a nice change of pace. Everything would be peachy keen.
(Tony miscalculated the pull the world had on him. He also miscalculated how many people would join him. Ultimately, Thanos underestimated him.)

“I don’t like this,” Steve mutters to him, as he shifts awkwardly on his feet in the lounge of Tony Stark’s absurdly large Malibu mansion.
Bucky sighs and resists the urge to roll his eyes. This isn’t the first time (and it certainly won’t be the last) that Steve has expressed that very sentiment, and while Bucky also recognises the futility and drawbacks to this particular job, it’s a job, it’s their job and it puts money in their bank account, which is something that Bucky won’t turn his back on.
“I just don’t understand why someone like Tony Stark needs a bodyguard,” Steve complains, quietly. “Some spoilt little rich boy, so full of himself that he thinks the whole world is out to get him?”
“Shut up, or you’re going to get us fired,” Bucky hisses.
Steve shakes his head. “All I’m saying is that I don’t want to have to spend the foreseeable future looking after some dolled-up, greedy prep school reject.”
Or, alternatively, five times that Tony Stark surprised Steve and Bucky, and one time they didn’t really care.

Changes/Bonus Material
I decided to make a few changes and add some bonus material.
1. Throughout Season 1, the Hulk material builds as teasers and stingers.  I used a lot of deleted scenes to help to build suspense for the Hulk’s eventual reveal, using the perspective of those around Bruce without ever showing Bruce himself, to avoid dealing with the casting change.  My favorite addition was the stinger to S1E1, where we see Bruce in the arctic and his suicide attempt, along with brief glimpses of the pain and longing that have driven him there.  I also LOVE the deleted/extended scenes with General Ross; they’re beautifully written.  I think these scenes were deleted for fear of slowing the film down too much, but to me, allowing the characters to wax poetical about their world-views is so compelling that I just had to include them.
2. In S1E3, I cut the entire third act of Iron Man.  This was a very radical change, but I made it for a good reason.  Most origin stories pit the hero against a darker version of himself.  While this was very clear with Iron Monger in Iron Man 1, this trope was basically repeated with Whiplash in Iron Man 2.  Although the plot of Iron Man 2 was very crowded and did not give Whiplash his due, given how intertwined the plot lines were, and how the struggle to outsmart Whiplash is so instrumental in driving Tony to delve into his father’s past, I felt that it was more important to set him up as his first major villain.  My hope is that the confrontation with the terrorists will suffice as Iron Man’s first victory, given the series format.
3. In S1E5-6, I added a few deleted scenes.  After the Thor prologue as the teaser, I chose to begin the episode with the deleted scene of Thor & Loki talking before his coronation; I felt that it was important to establish the adult versions of these characters as brothers before the plot continued.  I also added the extended conversation between Loki & Frigga at Odin’s bedside, as well as Loki’s coronation.  The original ordering of the dialogue really seemed to flow much more smoothly, and to end it with the actual coronation moment gave Loki a bit more of a bridge from scheming brother to power-hungry tyrant.  The brief conflict in Tom Hiddleston’s performance is breathtaking.
4. In S1E7-9, I added a few Cap deleted scenes.  The first is his extended introduction to the present day.  While this scene was unfinished, and the final product isn’t perfect, I felt that the extended dialogue between Cap and Nick Fury was important, as this scene now takes place later in the series.  I also added the extended Cap sequences dealing with the present day, including much of his interactions with the waitress/saving her in the Battle of New York.  While these scenes slowed the pacing in the film, I personally felt that we could use the character development for Cap here; his struggle to adjust to modern life, while expounded upon in Winter Soldier, needed more time to really sit with the viewer, as this was the season finale.  I also loved how the waitress provided an everyman perspective and connection for the Avengers as a whole, with her “thank you” line at the end becoming a great payoff.
5. In S2E1-3, I used the brilliant “TDW: Hard Forged Edition” fan edit as my base for the Thor arc.  This edit includes masterfully integrated deleted scenes that really flesh out the characters and soften some of the edges around the writing.  A few of my favorite moments are Thor and Frigga’s brief interaction in the first act, and Thor and Jane’s interaction before her arrest in Episode 2.
However, I did add one moment myself.  This fan edit moved the prologue from the beginning of the film to Odin’s discussion of the dark elves with Thor and Jane in the library (Episode 1).  To drive home the theme of this season (dealing with demons), I reinserted an unused moment from the prologue.  After Thor reminds Odin that he was told that the Aether was destroyed, we see a quick flashback from Odin where his father says to bury it where no one will ever find it.  It’s really this decision from Thor’s grandfather that allows the Aether to reemerge during the Convergence in the first place, so I felt that it was important to clarify that moment as the original sin; Thor is now dealing with the consequences of that decision.
6. In S2E2, I added some Iron Man 3 deleted scenes involving EJ, the kid who bullies Harley.  I’m still going back and forth on this one.  I decided to include this scene for two reasons.  First, it directly compares Harley with Tony, facing their personal bullies.  Second, at the end of the extended sequence, Harley literally saves Tony’s life, giving more weight to their relationship and actual reason for Harley to say “I saved your life.”
7. In S2E3, I added in part of the alternate ending for Thor: The Dark World, found on the Infinity Saga Box Set bonus disc.  Originally, this ending included  scene with Odin on Earth and Thor taking his place as King of Asgard.  However, to keep with continuity, I selected the middle part of this scene: when Jane breaks up with Thor.  I added this conversation in for a couple of reasons.  First, the dialogue is quite good, given the journey they’ve been on in this film, and since we never got any kind of heart to heart between the couple in the theatrical cut, I felt it was needed to give their relationship arc some closure.  Second, I felt that it was important to set up Jane’s reasons for eventually actually breaking up with Thor, as it’s kind of shrugged off in Ragnarok.  Following this scene, I continued with the theatrical ending of Thor giving up the throne.  Even though it contradicts the conversation between Thor and Jane, in my head canon, Thor sees Jane’s reasons and at first, he agrees to go to Asgard.  However, when he is in front of his father, he realizes that being king isn’t who he is anymore.  He doesn’t know where his future will lead, but he chooses Jane in that moment.  To me, it seemed natural, and it adds layers to Thor’s journey at this point in the series.  The episode is then capped off with his implied return to Earth.
Also in this episode, I added the deleted scene where Maya Hansen sends the AIM data to Tony and is killed via the Extremis plant.  To be honest, I felt this scene should have been in the movie.  It gave more weight to Maya’s character arc and provided an ironic death; the very thing she worked so hard on took her life.
8. In S2E4-5, I used Bobson Dugnutt’s “WS: Defrosted Edition” as my base, adding in many of the deleted scenes from CA: Winter Soldier.  To me, these scenes fleshed out important moments for these characters that better set them up for the future.
9. In S2E6-7, I used several fan edits as sources in order to add in several deleted scenes from the film to slow down the frantic pacing and to better set up future plot points.  This includes Thor’s vision in the cave, to which I also made a subtle change to briefly include Thanos himself; this marks Thanos’ only appearance in Season 2 after the brief stinger in Season 1, and I felt it was important to establish him as a looming threat.  The power stone is also deleted from this moment, as it has not yet been introduced in the series.  I also added some moments for Bruce Banner’s vision before he goes on his rampage to tie him back to his origins in Season 1, and I cut most of Black Widow’s relationship moments with him, especially “the sun’s getting real low” stuff.  My goal was to make their relationship much more subtle and to distinguish it from Bruce’s relationship with Betty.
However, I did decide to include their interaction in the bedroom at Hawkeye’s farm.  I decided this scene was merited; in my head canon, Black Widow is shaken by her vision, so she reaches out to this other member of the team she’s slowly been connecting with in a moment of weakness/loneliness/desire.  I also really struggled because of the controversy around Black Widow’s “monster” line.  I eventually came to the conclusion that she’s referring to herself as a monster not because she can no longer have kids, but because she’s been mutilated so she can be a better killer.  To her, that’s monstrous.  While I do think the scene could have made that clearer, I really appreciated the sentiment she’s conveying here, so I chose to leave it in.
One final change I made with BW/Hulk: I re-edited the BW rescue scene so there’s no longer a kiss/push to make Bruce transform into the Hulk.  I wanted to give Bruce as much control over his changing as possible so it was easier to track is growth since his origins and set his rage transformation from Scarlet Witch’s vision apart.  In the theatrical cut, it’s implied that BW broke trust with Bruce because she needed Hulk.  Now, Hulk decides to leave in the end because he can no longer trust Bruce; Bruce views Hulk as a monster and wants him out.  Hulk doesn’t trust Black Widow to accept him either, as she hates the monster within herself, so she’s just like Bruce.  In my head canon, when Hulk reaches out to touch Black Widow’s face on the screen, that’s Bruce, but then Hulk claims control, shuts off the screen, and sets out into space.
10. In S3E3, I added a brief deleted scene where Janet Van Dyne explains to Hank that the Quantum Realm was more complex than they imagined.  I added this because I have a feeling the Quantum Realm will continue to play a larger role in future MCU plans, so I wanted to set up its importance a bit better.
11. In S3E8, I added the alternate ending for Doctor Strange, also found on the Infinity Saga Box Set bonus disc.  Thanks to fan editor Bobson Dugnutt for his splendid reasoning in going with this ending.  Since this film is centered around Doctor Strange, it made perfect sense to me that the final scene should come full circle, playing on Doctor Strange’s love of music and his playful relationship with Wong.  To me, this is a much more character-centric ending.  I moved the the theatrical ending to S3E10 as a stinger scene to emphasize the importance of the time stone.
12. In S4E1-2, I restructured Captain Marvel just a bit so that the audience discovers more about Carol’s identity with her.  I moved most of her scenes pre-Earth to a brief flashback sequence.  I also added a deleted scene where Yon-Rogg talks to the Supreme Intelligence in his own image.  I felt that this was crucial to really SHOW, not TELL, how the Supreme Intelligence appears to the Kree.  It also really adds some much-needed depth to Yon-Rogg.
13. In S4E3-6, I pruned some of the jokes/gags in both Guardians 2 and Thor: Ragnarok, just to space out the laugh moments and allow the scenes to breathe a bit more.  I also had to edit around the “sun’s getting real low” gag, since I cut it in Season 2.
14. In S4E7, I chose to introduce the episode in the teaser with the Guardians’ perspective, when they first come upon the Asgardian shipwreck.  This was mainly because we have been following the Guardians more consistently than Thor since last seasons’ finale.
15. Finally, in S4E10, I chose to include a small portion of Black Widow’s alternate death scene, specifically, a small piece of dialogue at the beginning of their conversation.  Fact: this scene is one of many Endgame Deleted scenes that are exclusive to Disney Plus, so I had to use a number of methods to obtain HD footage.  Unfortunately, the audio isn’t amazing, but it’s the best I could get.  The reason I chose to use this opening bit of dialogue was because I felt it established very quickly the logic of Black Widow’s thinking.  I felt like the conversation would flow more naturally from intellectual reason to their love for each other.
The reason I chose to stick with her theatrical death is because the creators chose to make that change, and I agree that maximum emotional impact is driving from character rather than plot.  I feel like even though the scene has its problems, it’s the closest we have to this beautifully tragic scene that Black Widow deserved.
