Baby Spits Up During Nightly Feedings

(Thank you for suggesting the #10 one shot idea from my I Need Help post with potential one shot ideas. Sorry for any mistakes that may be in this. Because I'm not home like I usually am for the week, I wasn't as focused as I'd like to have been when reviewing and editing this.)

Honestly, barely sicfic & mostly fluff

Context to help you read this easier:

(Baby is 4 weeks old/Dunkirk Harry era/You're married)

It's currently 3 am and me and Harry are in-n-out of broken sleep due to our newborn baby. She's 4 weeks old and wakes up every 3 to 4 hours for feedings. The last time she woke up to be feed was around 12. We heard her whimper and start crying through the baby monitor, so I got up to go in her nursery and feed her, sitting on the rocker in the corner of her room. After I burped her, she fell right back to sleep and I placed her back in her crib and sleepily made my way back into bed with my husband.

Now about 5 minutes after 3, we hear the baby monitor go off again, which is to be expected at this point. Four weeks of having our beautiful baby girl, we know how long she sleeps before she's hungry again. That also creates exhaustion in both Harry and I. More exhaustion for me though because I'm still healing from giving birth and I'm the one that has to feed her from my body when she's hungry. That's why this time when the monitor goes off Harry tiredly mumbles, "I'll go get her and bring her to you, alright."

When Harry slips out of the bed with hooded eyes, messy curls, and low riding gray joggers that show his v line, I blindly slip my shirt off to make it easier to feed her when he returns with our tiny baby. A minute later, Harry returns with a fussy baby in his tattooed arms, ready to be fed. He walks over to the lamp on my bedside table and turns it on, leaving a warm glow in the room. Then he pulls back the blankets that's covering my naked chest and gently lays her small body between my boobs. Once our baby is on my bare chest, Harry carefully grabs one of my boobs in his hand and positions my nipple to her small mouth. "Is she latched on correctly?" he asks, not being able to see fully see due to her facing away from him.

I look down at my nipple she has in her mouth and can see her mouth doing subtle sucking motions along with feeling and the sounds the sucking she's doing with that strong mouth of hers. "Mhm I believe so. Come back in bed please." I respond. Harry leaves the lamp on and walks around the bed to crawl under the warm covers again. He scoots his pillow higher up and closer to mine, in the middle of the bed. Then he turns on his side and places a ring-less hand over our baby's back, gently rubbing it in soothing patterns and watches her while she eats.

Harry loves watching our baby feed from me. Not in a sexual way because its from my boobs that he adores so much during sex or foreplay. Its more of a fascination for him. Being fascinated with how my breast can produce milk to help our baby grow and become strong. Often when I'm breast feeding, no matter the time of day or place of feeding, he'll sit and watch. I never mind honestly. Harry is my husband after all, so I'm very comfortable around him.

As he's half consciously watching the baby feed from my boob, I'm laying flat on my back with my eyes closed, just about to doze off to sleep from the sleep deprivation my body is in. I'm not afraid to fall asleep because I know Harry is awake and watching her. So I do feel comfortable enough to doze off with her on my chest though I'm trying to keep awake to burp her when she's finished. I can feel Harry glancing at me and he's picking up on my battle with sleep. "It's okay to fall asleep. I've got her. When she's finished, I'll burp her and put her back to bed alright." he whispers quietly to me.

Knowing I have full permission to fall asleep, my mind falls blank as I doze into a much needed slumber. A few minutes later our baby girl detaches from my right nipple. Harry sits up and lifts her from my chest, pulling the covers back over my exposed upper body, and places her on his naked and tattooed chest carefully. He reaches over to his nightstand where a burping cloth lays and grabs it to place over his shoulder. Then he properly situates her upright over his shoulder to begin burping.

Usually it takes no longer than two minutes to burp her after a feeding, but for some reason tonight she isn't burping. "Come on my darling. Burp for daddy please so we can go to sleep." Harry coos in her ear softly while patting her back. She just makes a grunting noise like she's got a bit of a tummy ache due to not burping yet. Harry repositions her to where she's cradled in his arms and looks down at her. Our baby's face is scrunched up in discomfort. "Why won't you burp huh? Is your tummy hurting?" he questions his daughter in a playful yet worriedly manner. Obviously she can't respond to her daddy's question, so Harry just places a hand on her belly and starts rubbing gentle circles over it, thinking it'll help her tummy ache. It soothes her for a minute but Harry knows she must burp. So he places her back over his shoulder and attempts to burp her again.

After about ten light taps to her small back, she lets out a burping sound but its much more than a burp. It's a sickly burp that came along with vomit. Our poor baby girl projectile vomits a stream of white milk down her daddy's back and on the pillow underneath him. "Shit." Harry whisper yells, while jumping up from the bed out of quick reflexes. His sudden movements startle me awake.

"What Harry? What's happening?" I question my husband with a confused brain due to the sleep I was just in.

"She just spit up all down my back and on my pillow while I was burping her." Harry replies back while shushing the now crying baby in his arms.

I look over with blurry vision and see the spit up puddle on his pillow. "Why'd she throw up? Does she have a tummy ache?" I ask him worriedly. The one thing that stresses me out most with having a newborn is they can't communicate to let people know when somethings wrong.

"I'm not sure. She wouldn't burp for me, so I gave her a belly rub and tried to burp her again. Well she burped alright but it wasn't just air that came with it. It was her meal as well." he responds.

I make my way out of the bed and go to our master bathroom to fetch a damp cloth. I notice I'm still topless at the moment but I don't really care. Once I have the warm damp clothes, I make my way over to Harry who's calming our baby down. I walk behind him and began cleaning up the spit up that's running down his back. "I think her burp just got stuck and when it was finally ready to come out, she accidently brought up the milk too." I tell Harry. "She seems alright now so I don't think she's actually sick or anything."

Once I have cleaned Harry's back off, I carefully wipe our babies mouth off to make sure she doesn't have any dried spit up on her face. Then I go to our hall closet and find a clean pillow case for his dirtied pillow. While changing his pillow case, Harry asks, "Do you mind if she sleeps in her bassinet in our room for the rest of the early morning? You know, to keep an eye on her and to have easy access to her when she needs to feed again."

"Yeah of course babe. Hand her to me and go grab the bassinet." Harry hands the sleeping baby to me after I've changed his pillow case and goes to the nursery to fetch her light pink bassinet bed. I sit on the edge of the bed waiting on him to return. When he returns, he has a diaper, wipes, and the bassinet in his arms and hands.

"I'll place it on my side of the bed so you don't have to get up to get her when she's hungry. I can just hand her to you." Harry speaks lowly in his deep accent. Once the bassinet is sat on the floor by his side of the bed, I hand him our baby again and he lays her down on our bed to change her wet diaper. When he was holding her moments ago, he felt her heavy diaper, so that's how he knew to grab one when in the nursery. He unbuttons her onesie and takes off her soiled diaper. Then he takes a wet wipe and gently wipes her off so she doesn't get a rash from dried pee left on her. After she's all clean, he puts the fresh diaper on her and rebuttons her onesie.

Lastly, he slowly picks her up and places her in her bassinet and pulls her blanket up on her to keep her body warm. Once our baby is back to peacefully sleeping, Harry hands me the pee filled diaper and I toss it into the bin located in our bathroom. Then I turn the lamp off and we both crawl back under the warm blankets. Harry pulls me to his body and I curl up into his side. My breast still naked under the blankets but I know the baby will need to be feed again in a short amount of time, so there is no use in putting a shirt back on. Not long after me and Harry cuddle each other, we are both back asleep due to how tired we both are as new parents, but we are happily tired because we wouldn't trade our baby girl for the world.

I'm v new to these things but I tried :) the prompt was: 'would you quit whining and just get in the bath' . (also look at me acc posting sort of regularly, who'd of thought?!?!)

warnings: sickness / fever (more dramatic than it needs to be) / LOTS of medical inaccuracies

summary: when tom doesn't take advice and ends up very ill, very far from home, there's one person whose stuck dealing with it

“Please Tom… I need you to work with me!”

It wasn’t his fault he was being a complete nightmare, though your patience was wearing off somewhat.

For context, you were in Morocco, where he had been filming part of his next film, which only made trying to take care of him that bit harder.

Everyone got ill sometimes. It wasn’t his fault.

That was the mantra ringing through your head, even if you had a more challenging time believing it. Tom wasn’t stupid, as much as he liked to joke about it. HOWEVER, what he was less good at was heeding warnings. He was a white boy in Morrocco; the health and safety briefing had literally been aimed at him. Had he taken the advice not to eat any dodgy looking meats at the market?

Of course not; that’d be boring.

Everyone else was fine. You’d all sampled Morroccos culture without giving yourselves the worst case of food poisoning you’d ever witnessed. But not Tom - possibly one of the only ‘indispensable’ people on the set. If you, or one of the minor characters, or even the director, had got ill - the show could continue.

When you’d been rudely awoken by your phone going off, you’d known instantly. It was as if you’d told him not to take a bite out of the weird burger once you were away from the eager view of the street vendor. Sure enough, with bleary eyes, you hissed at the brightness of the phone screen before seeing ‘Tom H’ on the screen.

“Y/n?” His voice was croaky, but just from the single call of your name, it was clear he was feeling sorry for himself.

“Are you okay? It’s late T.”

“Um I… can you come over? You…you might need the key I’m - um- in the bathroom.”

As his stylist, it technically wasn’t part of your job description to also be mother when he was sick, but (unfortunately for you) after the 3 years working side by side with him - you were also friends.

Which you were almost regretting by the second time rinsing the toilet bowl clean after he’d evacuated what seemed to be the majority of his vital organs into it. Honestly, it was impressive how he managed to keep going.

That had been at around 4 in the morning- the doctor had been called at 8, coinciding beautifully with his 5th toilet extravaganza. Once the doctor had confirmed your original, if completely unqualified, diagnosis of food poisoning - you hadn’t been able to bite your tongue. Perhaps an ‘i told you so’ might’ve slipped past your lips, but Tom was a bit too out of it to argue back.

You’d been given firm advice from the doctor - he said little sips of water, rest and control his temperature. It all had seen pretty simple - though the action? Not so much.

It wasn’t his fault, yet Tom was not super compliant. You and Harry had both been taking turns in practically forcing him to take sips of water, having to turn off ‘modern family’ till he did. The blackmail had put you both in his bad book.

Honestly, thank the lord Harry was here too. You’d woken him up at seven, begging for help and since then, you’d tagged teamed. While one was looking after Tom, the other was phoning the director, the doctor, and the crew to inform them of the current situation.

Again, of all people. Why’d it have to be Tom?

Mainly because you knew how mortifying he found this. He didn’t like people fussing over him, never had. He liked to work hard, liked to make people happy - definitely didn’t like to feel a burden. Perhaps what made him feel ten times worse was that he knew he was inconveniencing the whole production team massively.

And yes, as you’d unhelpfully reminded him, it was ‘his fault’.

The lavish hotel room, big bathroom and pretty efficient AC still didn’t manage to mask the pungent in-the-back-of-your-throat smell from the bathroom. At the doctor’s advice, who had been a little concerned at Toms fever, Harry had cranked the AC on high. It had forced you to steal one of Tom’s big hoodies and a pair of joggers- you hadn’t left his room since he first called you, still wearing your tiny pyjama shorts and an old tee.

“Please turn the air con off.” His little voice whined from where he was lying, huddled up under the covers. Perched on the other side of the double bed, but over the covers with your laptop on his lap, you could actually feel him shivering with the chills. It felt like you were torturing the poor boy.

“T you know I can’t. It’ll make your fever worse.” The way he looked up at you, like a little Labrador that you were refusing to pet, actually pained your heart.

Okay, so yes it was his fault, but you weren’t mad, you just felt so awful for him.

“Please I’ll- I’ll pay you more.” His voice was hoarse; though he denied a sore throat, it sounded like the constant sickness was burning his windpipe.

“Tommm” you pouted, sticking your bottom lip out “I don’t want your money, want you to get better.”

Apparently giving up, brown eyes shot you the filthiest look in disappointment, rolling to face away from you. You thought he was giving you the silent treatment in a huff, but instead, he was praying on the weaker one.

“Harry, I’ll buy you that set of golf clubs-“

“NO!” You had to interrupt before Harry would say yes - because from the way his younger brother shot up from the arm chair, he was about to. Scowling eyes slowly focused back on you in annoyance, making you huff - shutting the laptop and kneeling on the bed to face him. After pressing the back of your palm to his forehead, which was scorching hot, you sighed. “I know you feel shitty and I’m so so sorry but I’m trying to make you better. So shut up, drink this and go to sleep!”

Like a child scorned, you received another death glare however, then he complied, taking a sip of the water you offered before lying back - huddling even tighter.

And it had been relatively peaceful for a few hours; Tom seemed to be getting some sleep - even if he was tossing and turning. Eventually, a prescription that the doctor had requested worked its way through the system, Harry getting a text to say he could go pick it up. The nearest pharmacy was probably a 30 minute drive from the hotel, so he left as soon as.

This left you alone with Tom, where the situation only descended into more chaos.

Almost as soon as Harry had left, Tom had stirred with a grunt. All it took was one look at his face for you to know. Both of you leapt up and flew into the toilet, Tom once again getting very familiar with the Moroccan toilet bowl.

This time though, when he had leant backwards, he’d sort of lost control and flopped most the way - you catching him before he could hit his head on the tiled floor.

“Woah, easy there!” It wasn’t like he’d passed out, but the look in his eye as he slumped into your lap… he wasn’t all there either. “Hey Tom… you with me? Tom?”

Lazily he blinked up at you, not really replying except for groans of half-formed words.

Deciding this had all got a bit direr, you almost sprinted back into the room, grabbing your phone and returning. He was still on the floor, his thumb and first finger pressing into each eye - groaning again.

“Hey Tom? I’m gonna call the doctor you need anything?” He whined in response, stopping only when you stroked his sweaty hair back, most of your attention on dialling the correct number.

The solution he’d given wasn’t pretty: Tom’s fever was too high hence why he was all woozy and groany. Until the doctor could get over with the stronger medications, you needed to lower his temperature in other ways or take him to hospital. He’d absolutely hate hospital, but the other choice? Boy, was he not going to like it either.

Ignoring Tom’s croaked question of what you were doing, you busied yourself switching on the bath taps. You let the water run until it was the right (very mild) temperate, then turned back to Tom, who’d managed to work himself up to sit against the sink unit.

“The doctor says you need it.” His brain was foggy, his mind was slow but your tone told him enough to know something was wrong with the bath. “Just take your clothes off and then I’ll help you-“

“Absolutely fucking not.” Good. He was still with it enough to argue.

“I am just as uncomfortable as you are Tom, but we both know you can’t stand up without fainting, so you are going to need my help.”

“Y/n!”

“Keep your boxers on and it’s just like a fitting! I’ve seen you have those before!”

It was clear as day just how emasculated he felt, especially because he knew you were right. Sitting up at this current moment was a push; there was no way he was getting in the bath without some help. Defeatedly he nodded, but gave you a piercing look to turn around before he started wiggling himself out of the flannel pyjama trousers and light cotton t-shirt. Most confusingly, he still felt freezing cold, yet he had long since learned not to argue with you - especially when your justification came from the advice of a doctor.

Your cue to turn around came in the form of an extra angry-sounding grunt- the look you got when you did wasn’t much better either. It was a weird contrast, though, having someone who physically appeared so indestructible (a superhero for crying out loud); to have been absolutely beaten to a pulp by a few mouth fulls of weird meat. You had seen his bare torso before, although it still wasn’t something easy to get used to - making you clench your teeth together just slightly. A very welcome view.

Perhaps you looked just a little too long at the man who was technically your boss, hunched angrily on the floor in nothing but his calvins - another grunt shaking you out of it. By now, the bath was almost full and you hurried to shut off the water, feeling your cheeks heat up as you cursed silently to yourself.

“Okay come on, gimme your arm.” Begrudgingly Tom followed your request, slinging his arm heavily over your shoulder as you crouched beside him. As strong as he looked, you knew right now he felt powerlessly weak - all that muscle was just going to be almost dead weight.

Now it was your turn to grunt and groan as you pulled Tom up to stand, him focusing on blinking away the headrush he got.

“Come on T work with me here.” Getting him to the side of the bath wasn’t too difficult, the issue came when he stepped with one foot into the bath and yelped, instantly withdrawing as if it was a literal ice bath.

The sudden movement had you both losing balance, ending with Tom sitting on the edge of the bath and you leaning over him, in between his legs, and slapping your hand on the wall opposite purely so you both didn’t end up in the bath.

“Tom!”

“It’s like ice water!”

“Its lukewarm like the doctor said!”

“It is not its from the fucking arctic!”

“Oh for god sake!” Exasperated, you paced up and down the bathroom shaking your head at his ridiculousness. This was ALL. HIS. FAULT.

You came back to him with an ultimatum.

“It’s this or the doctor said I had to drag your ass to hospital.”

“Nooooooo.” The 25 year old seemed to convert into a whiny three year old again.

“Those are the two options. So will you PLEASE quit complaining and get in the bath.”

Keeping up the toddler persona, Tom huffed but reluctantly nodded in agreement - you had come up trumps. It didn’t stop him yelping when you helped to lower him in. His breath was shaky, as a response to the ‘cold’, but he was firming it. At least when you felt his forehead after a couple of minutes, it certainly seemed as though the fever was starting to ease off .

“You can go if you want.” His voice was murmured and as you looked up at him, he did his very best to avoid your gaze.

“Not a chance, if you drown on my watch, Nikki will never forgive me.” At the very least he seemed to appreciate your joke, scoffing a little with a small nod. “If you don’t want me here I get it. As soon as Harry’s back, I’ll swap with him.”

“No! It’s not that its… I’m just an ass when I’m ill.”

“A self aware ass, though.” Again he chuckled a little, as you folded your arms on the edge of the porcelain tub, resting your head lying to one side. “You had me pretty scared there for a moment, you know?”

He nodded a little, creating a wave of ripples in the water which you watched to avoid his gaze - which you knew was tracing all your features inquisitively.

“Hey it’s in the job description, always a bit dramatic... I’m sorry though I should never of called you- don’t know why I didn’t just get Harry.” In response you tutted, taking a moment to lean up and push his sweaty curls back a bit.

Just because you could, it was allowed in this moment.

“’m glad you did.”

“Yeh me too” He sighed, eyes fluttering shut in the easy silence of the bathroom. You kept a vigilant eye on him for the next 20 minutes, checking the temperature of his forehead using the back of your hand, whilst he seemed to finally get a bit of proper restbite, appearing like the worst had passed. You had no idea what was taking Harry so long; in fact it was the doctor that arrived first- who you ran to let in (not wanting to leave Tom asleep in the bath one bit).

Whilst the doctor did all his checks, taking his temperature properly this time, satisfied that it was much more manageable. He still wanted to set him up with some oral rehydration rescue packs to get his hydration status a bit better and give some anti-sickness tablets and antipyretics.

Having actually been getting some rest before all the prodding and poking, Tom was back to being a grumbling dick - now not wanting to leave the bath (the irony was real - making you roll your eyes). Once again, he appeared embarrassed to have you see him like this, so you left the doctor to help him get out and changed- instead going down to reception to get a fresh set of sheets, as he’d done a pretty impressive job of sweating through the old ones.

Even if tired and grumpy, when Tom exited the bathroom, he looked much better - he was walking himself without the doctor’s help. Which honestly was such a relief because when he had passed out on you, you genuinely were terrified. Thankfully the doctor stayed for the next 20 or so minutes, which was just when Harry returned with a bag of medications - which were now wholly redundant, given the doctor had already supplied everything.

“What happened?” Harry asked you in a hushed voice, whilst Tom was distracted with getting his medications. Recounting the story of Tom pretty much passing out, Harry grimaced for you, then launching over to give you a tight hug.

“Are you okay?” That was a novel idea, you hadn’t really thought about yourself at all - but honestly, you were a bit shaken, having been running on adrenalin for most of the night.

“I-uhm… yeh I think so… just-just was a bit scared, I guess? Felt bad too because he didn’t want me there but-“

“I can promise you Y/n, he did want you there. Just probably embarrassed he wasn’t all manly and that…” With a nod, you smiled softly at the frizzy-haired boy.

Whilst working with Tom, it also meant getting pretty close to his younger brother. The two Hollands were almost attached at the hip, which you were very much okay with.

It was weird though... your relationships were completely different. Harry was just your brother, through and through. He wound you up like a sibling but also knew you as if he had your whole life. With Tom… it wasn’t that. Arguably, you were closer to Tom, but on a different level. It was more exciting, more nerve-wracking and heartwarming all at the same time. Honestly, you couldn’t get your head around it properly.

“Hey, you’re probably shattered. Why don’t you go back to your room and get some sleep? I got it in here.” You knew Hary was trying to offer something nice, and now all the excitement had worn off, you were unbelievably shattered. But you didn’t like the idea of not being there, as a just in case.

“Uhm, I think I might just stay, you know?” And he did, with a deliberate, knowing smile, he nodded.

He knew you were worried. He knew Tom had really really scared you. He also knew how much you cared about his brother.

Just like how Harry knew Tom wanted you there, even if he felt embarrassed. Well, anyone would- when you are passing out half-naked in front of the one person that really matters.

It was just at this point that the doctor was done, giving Harry instructions about the rest of the day, when you made a beeline for the bed. Tom was propped up against the headboard, still with a pale sullen look and tired eyes, but a bit less clammy and more human. He cracked a smile as you crawled up onto the other side of the bed, kneeling next to him.

“How’re you doin’?”

“All drugged up, just feel fucking exhausted.” Instinctively you reached up to feel his forehead, really appreciating the fact it felt almost normal.

“Join the club mate, I had a 5am wake up call too.” You almost whispered, intending to make Tom laugh, but instead only getting a pout.

“I am sorry, a-are you going to go back to your room?”

“Nah” Tom’s eyes didn’t light up, except the fact that they very much did. “Can’t trust you not to get into trouble while I’m gone Holland.”

“Thanks.” He laughed weakly before shimmying down on the bed, so he was much more comfortable. “And thankyou, I-I’m sorry I’m a dickhead and made your life-“

“Shut up Tom!” Laughing, you lightly slapped his arm, also leaning down on the bed, so you were lying facing him. “You’re all feverish; go to sleep before you say something stupid.”

There was a long pause, Tom just gazing deep into your eyes, because he was pretty sure what he was thinking was nothing to do with the dodgy unidentified meat he’d had the evening before.

“What... like asking you out?”

…..

“Maybe that wouldn’t be so stupid.”

A Saturday night inside spent with Matthew was your favourite way to spend the night. What made it even better was being in bed with him, cuddled up and making out. The best part was his hands caressing your leg up and down with a sense of need in his touch. You had your hand desperately clung around his neck to keep his head in place, so he wouldn’t dare part his lips from yours.

He turned you on your back. He continued to kiss you feverishly as his hands were up to no good. He slid his hand up your thigh and slipped his hands up the back of your shorts. He squeezed your ass which made you arch your back and free yourself from his lips as you let out a soft gasp. He went in to kiss your neck and you could feel his smile forming.

“Someone’s already excited,” he said.

Saw this video game tag thing pop up on my dash a few days ago. Wanted to do it.

1. First game you played obsessively? Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I believe I was 5yo. Still waiting on that FF7 Remake treatment.

2. A game that has influenced you creatively? Writing, drawing, etc. Well if I play a game and like it, then I'll create sims of it. Does that count?

3. Who did you play with as a kid? My brother from the day I was born.

4. Who do you play with now? My brother FROM THE DAY I WAS BORN.

5. Ever use cheat codes? I wasn't lying when I made this post. {link}

6. Ever buy strategy guides? Yes! Mainly to look at the artwork though. (Don't need no guide!)

7. Any games you have multiple copies of? Lots of games, most being Left 4 Dead with 6 copies (3 Xbox 360, 1 PC case, 2 PC digitally.) What can I say, its a GOOD GAME!

8. Rarest/Most expensive game in your collection? Gold cartridge Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (maybe that's rare?)

9. Most regrettable purchase? I don't regret my purchases, but I have received games I have never played like Cubix (PS2) no clue where that game came from, but I have it somehow. Madagascar (Xbox 360) came with my Xbox 360, never opened it from its case. And Monsters Inc. Scream Arena (Gamecube) or something... it was a gift.

10. Ever go to a midnight game release or stand in line for hours? No, because then I'd have to interact with people.

11. Have you ever made new friends from playing video games? I'm only friends with people BECAUSE of video games, so yes.

12. Ever get picked on for liking games? No, that'd be ridiculous.

15. If it was a requirement to get a game related tattoo, what would you pick? Triforce is the most basic option, but I'd rather not get a tattoo.

16. Favorite game to play with your friends IRL? Super Smash Bros. Brawl with hacks, but that was over a decade ago.

20. Game that you know like the back of your hand? Sims 4 I like to think I know everything about Left 4 Dead. Quite a bit about Monster Hunter, more so of a series though than a specific game.

21. Game that you didn’t like or understand as a kid but love now? I'd say Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. I loved it as a kid, but had a lot of complex pen & paper RPG mechanics that I never understood. I understand a lot more of it now, but its still complex as all heck. I just know you hit things, they die.

22. Do you wear game related clothing/accessories? That's the only thing I wear.

31. Does the 3DS and/or Virtual Boy hurt your eyes or give you headaches? Yes. 3DS gave me headaches though I only really played with the 3D feature in Ocarina of Time 3D. I think my eyes broke because I couldn't get my 3D to work very well after.

32. Did you ever play a game based on your favorite show/cartoon/movie/comic? Sure I play games based on a lot of things. Literally any anime game. If I had to pick Dragon Ball Xenoverse is kinda like a dream Dragon Ball game. Oh, Attack on Titan 2 is pretty neat too!

33. Did you ever have any bootleg games or plug-n-play games? Some SEGA plug-n-play thing once. Played it like once and now its lost to time (or my closet.)

34. Do either of your parents play video games? Yes. Mom and Dad played NES Super Mario Bros. My Dad went HARD at that game until he saved the Princess. Then he quit forever.

35. Ever work in a game store? Or do you have a favorite game shop? "Hi. Welcome to Gamestop!"I never want to hear that again, but it was my main store until I went full digital/ online orders.

36. Have you ever shed actual blood, sweat or tears over a game? No, I don't tend to get upset or emotional, but Bill dying in Left 4 Dead made me pretty pissed.

37. Have you played E.T. for the Atari 2600? Do you think that’s the worst game ever, or do you have another nomination? Never played it. I don't really play "bad" games, but maybe Sims 4.

38. A game you’re ashamed to admit that you like? The Sims 4

39. A sequel that you would die for them to make? Dragon's Dogma 2 WHICH I think is actually in development, so I'd have to say Fallout New Vegas 2. C'mon Bethesda you cowards, hand the keys back over to Obsidian so they can make another good Fallout game!

40. What to you think of virtual reality headsets or motion controls? Two part question, two answers. VR Headset to immerse in world, yes. Motion Controls, no.

41. A genre that you just can’t get into? MOBAs and MMOs. I don't like paying to keep playing.

42. Maybe it wasn’t your first game, but what was the game that started you on your path to nerdiness? Nintendo 64 opened me up to what video games could be as a kid. Sad to say my parents' NES didn't really do that for me. And years later Fallout 3 was a big game changer for me too.

43. Ever play games when you really should have been concentrating on something else? Every day of my LIFE.

44. Arcade machine that has consumed the most of your quarters? None. I'd rather emulate.

45. How are you at Mario Kart? Pretty dang good. 3-STARS MARIO KART WII, BABY!

46. Do you like relaxing games like Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon? Yes, both of those. I preferred when Animal Crossing had more character to it. New Horizons looks so pretty, but feels so bland compared to classic AC.

47. Do you like competitive games? No. Not really. Usually amongst friends or if I can get competitive against AI Bots. I love my machine bot friends cause they don't cry like 10 year olds when they lose.

48. How long does it take your to customize your player character? Too long. I've seriously restarted games because I wasn't happy with my character's appearance.

49. In games where you can pick your class, do you always tend to go for the same type of character? Yes, I am always the magic man, my brother is always brute warrior, and my friend is the ranger.

50. If you were a game designer, what masterpiece would you create? I don't really know. Honestly, I'd rather mod already good games to make them better than create something completely new.

51. Have you ever played a game for so long that you forgot to eat or sleep? No, that'd be ridiculous. But I've had a friend fall asleep playing games at my house 3 different times and currently dozes off during our Minecraft sessions. So, maybe that's not a completely ridiculous thing after all.

52. A game that you begged your parents for as a kid? Kirby 64 apparently. My brother tells me we had to count out pennies to buy it. I must've been too young with no recollection, but I believe it.

53. What’s your opinion on DLC these days? It's good if its not in the game's files from the beginning and is actually developed AFTER launch... and pre-order bonuses should be standard DLC a month or two later. Some games have content lost to time because of that pre-order bullsh*t.

54. Do you give in to Steam sales? Of course. If you want a game and its on sale then why not? I typically wait just for Steam sales to get games.

55. Did you ever make someone you hated in the Sims and did mean stuff to them? No? I typically make people and characters I like in Sims. I've made villains like Dio, but he's an anime villain and I don't really HATE him despite the horrible things he's done.

56. Did you ever play Roller Coaster Tycoon and kill off your guests? No. Never played that game.

57. Did you ever play a game to 100% or get all of the achievements? I try to for all the games I really like.

58. If you can only play 3 games for the rest of your life, which ones do you pick? The Sims 4, Skyrim, & Fallout: New Vegas. Mods make them live forever. Left 4 Dead and Monster Hunter are good choices too.

59. Do you play any cell phone games? Those aren't games.

60. Do you know the Konami Code? No? But I'll take a guess. Is it make an IP and forget it exists?

61. Do you trade in your games or keep them forever? Keep forever... even the bad ones.

62. Ever buy a console specifically to play one game? PS4 Pro for Monster Hunter World. It was basically for early access since the PC version was being developed and releasing after PS4, but I don't like waiting.

63. Ever go to a gaming convention or tournament? Sort of. Been to anime cons and walked into the gaming tournament rooms only to walk out less than 10 minutes later.

64. Ever make a TV or monitor purchase based on what would be best for gaming? No, but I'm going to be doing that soon, hopefully.

65. Ever have a Game Genie, Game Shark or Action Replay? Did it ever mess up your game’s save file? GameShark for N64, PS2, Gameboy, and Action Replay for Gamecube, DS, 3DS. And no not really, I would cheat responsibly... but there was this one time at school my friend and I borrowed another friend's Gameboy game, loaded it up with my Gameshark, tried playing, it crashed, loaded it back up, save file corrupted... we just stared at each other jaws dropped, "Here's your game back, dude. Make sure you don't play it til you get back home!"

66. Did you ever have have an old Nokia with Snake on it? No, but I remember seeing them on billboards in the game DRIV3R on PS2.

67. Do you have a happy gaming-related childhood memory you want to share? Every game I play is filled with happy memories (mostly.)

69. In your opinion, best game ever made? I've played quite a few masterpiece games, but to pick one, I'd say Fallout: New Vegas

“Told you you'd like it! We know what you need.” your friend Lynelle says as you and your other 2 best friends step into the lobby of the ship.

Your original plan was to stay home and catch up on much needed sleep and netflix binge watching during Winter Break but Khadijah, Tasha , and Lynelle (Lennie) had other plans.

2 plane rides and now you're here on a cruise on the way to 'paradise'.

The last few weeks went by in a blur while you were buying bikinis, trying to contain your emotions, and leaving behind your frozen over city for Bali.

"Alright , we'll meet up in the morning for breakfast" you tell them before giving them kisses goodbye and heading out with everybody.

Tasha and Lynelle were currently singing to each other and sharing cute kisses off to the side. You couldn't help but to smile and think of how true love must feel. To love and be fully loved back like that.

You were standing in front of your opened room door when you realized that his room is across from yours but he had no plans of sleeping in it.

"Uh-uh. Who said you were invited in?" You ask Erik with your index finger on his chest.

"I thought you said you wanted to watch Netflix? We can order room service and everything. Whatever you want" he says to you licking his lips and closing the gap between the two of you.

"I want to forget. I want to have fun. I want to feel loved and appreciated for once. That would be nice." You say quietly as he takes his hand in yours. Pressing small kisses to each of your knuckles.

He hesitates for a moment before leaning in to kiss you slowly. He held your face in his hands as he continued to back you into the room kicking it closed with his foot.

"I'm glad that we found each other. After all of this time. " You say to him in between kisses

"Believe it or not I kept that picture of us. The one your mama took of us at the zoo next to the monkeys. I took it with me on tour everywhere. Right next to my mama's picture in my wallet. I never lost a battle. I made it home in one piece. Shits wild." He said zoning out for a moment like he was going somewhere else.

"Heyyy." You call softly. You move his hands from your waist

" I've got you." You whisper to him before leading him to your bed and laying him back.

You wrap your arms around him almost cuddling him as you lay your head on his chest while listening to his heartbeat and sitting on his lap.

You place a soft kiss to his lips before moving away from the bed to change, settling on a large shirt and nothing else.

Erik followed suit and just stripped to his boxer briefs before you come back to the bed carrying soda , your laptop, and snacks.

"And before you ask. Yes, I packed my laptop because work never stops, and yes I packed snacks because I can't find Takis out here." You say chuckling softly while he shakes his head laughing softly.

You both settle into a comfortable position before loading up the movie. You settled on Nappily Ever After but it wasn't long before he was softly kissing on your neck with his hand under your shirt.

"Gonna eat it from the back. That's cool with you" he mumble into your ear.

Hiveswap Theory/Speculation about the “Cultists” 🛸

I am running on around 4 hours of sleep, but I came up with a quick little theory about the “cultists” in Hiveswap! I based this mostly on looks/outfits we’ve seen main cast of Homestuck in and the way the characters moved in the gif.

I don’t have much justification for my guess as to who Carnie is, but my first point sort of ties Carnie and Baby together!

For starters, obviously a toddler or small child could manage to walk along side (presumably) adults. Though the placeholder name “baby” can suggest that this member is the youngest and/or newest of the cultists, look at the animation (not sure if you can see this on tumblr mobile, I got this gif off The Cutting Room Floor site) in how Baby seems to move with Carnie. This suggests that they’re holding hands or that Carnie is carrying them around like a doll.

For the sake of shortening this post, please look up “Juju” on MSPA wikia. Read up on characters and anything else if needed!

I know I’m getting a little side tracked and my writing isn’t the most organized, but Carnie could also be a shortened term referencing the word “Carnival” perhaps.

Edit: I googled the term and I’m definitely second guessing my ideas as to who Carnie is though we also know Dirk and Gamzee kind of have a connection through Lil Cal; so, be it Dirk or someone else (new or old characters), this seems to be involved with the “Dark Carnival.”

TLDR Baby is likely Lil Cal or a similar looking Juju. Head shape when a hood is being worn should be taken with a grain of salt, but between the animation of Baby and Carnie imo Baby seems to move like a doll or mannequin of some sort. I based my original character guesses (in the first image) about Carnie off of who was around Lil Cal the most, though this character could also be just some juggalo or troll who’s horns broke due to some sort of incident. We know troll horns can break as is Equius’ right horn is broken.

The Dark Carnival isn’t a new concept in Homestuck and it would be interesting to see that bit of lore make its way into Hiveswap/Hauntswitch. Perhaps we will get some more explanation for that part of the Homestuck universe! 🎡

As for King, I hope I’m not the only one seeing troll horn shapes in the hood? Unless someone’s hair is somehow that stiff and solid, I’m going to assume those are troll horns!

My initial guess was that this is Karkat due to the horn size, but other trolls have been seen with small horns before such as Nepeta; so, this could really be any troll! My other more solid reasoning as to why this could be Karkat is a King is a kind of leader figure, someone who leads the rest of the team and we know from the various Homestuck media that Karkat becomes a leader (Commander/Comrade Karkat FTW). Going off my initial guess of Carnie being an instance of Dave Strider also lead me to believe that this small-horned leader troll is Karkat.

The Dark Carnival idea does seem a bit more likely now after looking up “Carnie” on google and remembering Homestuck lore about how the purple blood trolls seem very interested in Juju; so, again this could be any troll, but I took some time out of my day to think this theory up! Obviously I’m going to see it through!

I’ve got nothing for Sci, though the lights flickering around them are interesting (not sure if that’s intentional or not) and I wanted to jokingly say Sci is Sans Undertale, but I’ll hold off on the memes! 💀

Perhaps Sci is an information dealer of some sort or is very good at gathering intel? Google wasn’t much of a help here either! 😤 If anyone finds anything about any of the placeholder names and how they could relate to Homestuck please put it in the notes or even a reblog and I’ll add it to this theory post!

I wanted to say “Sci” when you say it out loud sounds similar to “Psiioniic,” but I may be pronouncing these words incorrectly and trying to make something of nothing (even though that’s how theories like these usually work). If there’s a connection here though, the lights floating around this Sci individual would make some sense! 🐝⚡️

Could also be a scientist or chemist working among the cultists! 🧪

As for “Fashionista,” my original guess was based on the theory I had about these people being instances of the original Homestuck crew due to Hiveswap Friendsim connecting to the main story through Pesterquest and by proxy connecting to the Epilogues and just all of Homestuck!

Jade Harley was my first guess because she’s the only one I could think of with no horns and long hair! She didn’t always have dog ears and clearly we don’t know everything about the Hiveswap instance of the Homestuck universe! Pa (Jake English) got together with someone outside the main cast and had children (who he took very poor care of seemingly). Roxy is a babysitter for some reason? Also we have yet to see Jane or Dirk have some sort of instance in the Hiveswap timeline aside from Ultimate Dirk being nosy as Hell.

The Dark Carnival idea seems most likely to come true at this point even though that leaves the identities of our cultists as a mystery. 🎡

Purple Blood trolls have been known to brainwash other trolls before though; so, my theory isn’t completely out of the realm of possibility! 🧠 Kurloz mind controlling Meulin and (not sure if I’m remembering correctly) Gamzee was a subplot that never got explored and is still a loose plot thread in the Homestuck universe! Perhaps purple blood trolls can also brainwash humans?

Day 4: Relationships

Sorato Drabbles

So this post by @cassandrasorato came up in my recommended post and I could not resist. It a few years late but hey better late than never right?

(5) Prompt : Sora was targeted by an evil Digimon and he was worried he was gonna lose her. Set during Tri Loss

Sparing a glance at the exhausted boy behind him, Yamato slow his step

“ Shall we take a break ?”

Koushiro gave a tired smile in reply “ might be a good idea ... “

“ If we can’t find the others soon, we have to find somewhere to camp for tonight ...”

A shimmer distracted him mid-sentence and what he saw paralyze him. He prides himself as someone who quite brave, after all, not many things can faze him (except ghost story ) but the sight of Sora running toward Gennai and Mugendramon frighten him more than he likes to admit

His leg moves before he even finishes processing and he found himself in front of the distortion

“ Don’t be stupid !” He shouted, pounding on the distortion, wanting to get through. The distortion remains shut, only infuriating him

“ Run away ! “ he added when Sora throws a rock at Gennai. What was she thinking? He doesn't see Piyomon with her, even if Piyomon is with her, the Bird Digimon can’t even evolve now! Don’t she know she is defenseless?

His ponding get more desperate when Sora was tackle to the ground “ Sora! get your hand off her !”. He barely registered a hand gently stopping his ponding and a voice timidly call out “ I don’t think pounding gonna work, Yamato. I will try to find a way to get through the distortion “

He hit the distortion one more time in frustration. Damn it! is there nothing he can do? Can he only watch her being in danger? Will he lose her?

He stumbles when for some strange reason, the distortion let him through and he almost landed face-first on the ground. When he got his bearing, he saw the rest of his friend going through the distortion as well but this wasn’t his main concern for the moment

Mugendramon was aiming it cannon straight at Sora, it was still charging up at the moment but once it ready ...

“ Gabumon petite fire !”

It was a risk sending a Child Digimon against an ultimate, he knows it but it a risk he had to take. Across from him, Gabumon look bewildered by his request and he gives his partner a reassuring nod

More confident, the Reptile Digimon charge, leaping into the air just as Mugendramon fire it Mugen Cannon. A hot stream of blue fire merge with Agumon's red hot fire and clash with the ultimate attack midway.

An explosion occurs and Yamato shielded his eye. When he opened his eye again after the dust clear, he was relieved to see Sora unscattered

Moving on instinct, he stood protectively in front of the girl

“ Taichi ... Yamato “

Meeting her ruby eye, many things threaten to escape from his lip. Ranging from “You idiot “to "Don’t scare me like that ever again “but only one sentences mange to get past his lip

“ Don’t push yourself “

(4) Prompt : the band, school, different assignments on saving Digital World that he can’t get to see Sora much. Set during Tri Determination, a little different from the prompt

Yamato lost count of how many nights he spent practicing with his new bandmates for the school festival tomorrow

“ Shall we call it a night guy ?” Tomoki call out after their latest run through “ we need some rest for tomorrow “

The rest of his members mumble their agreement and begin to pack the equipment. Keeping his guitar back in its case, he was secretly relieved, the long night every day was starting to get to him

“See ya tomorrow “ his bandmates call as they leave one by one till he was the only one left in the practice room. He took a look at his phone, 930 PM .... slinging his guitar over his shoulder he heads out, locking the door behind him

“ Soraaa “

“ Yes, Piyomon? “ Sora reply trying her best not to snap. It wasn’t the poor bird fault she was in a foul mood but the endless assignment is starting to get on her nerve, add in the pressure of the new infected Digimon issues, it no wonder she didn’t crack yet

“ Do you need a drink ?” Piyomon ask cautiously but the subtle worry in her partner voice didn’t escape her

Giving a strained smile, she shut the book she currently revising, maybe she should take a little break “ that sound good “

Her eye following as her partner hop to the kitchen. Her mind, not consume by assignment for once, drifted into someone ... Yamato ... she misses him.

They been so busy with school lately that they hardly get to see each other besides class and the occasional Digimon fight which doesn’t really count ... they are not drifting apart, are they?

She sighs... she really misses him ... she missed how he will usually keep her accompany during a stressful time like this, she missed how he never fails to make her laugh between the long hour of study

A doorbell pulls her out of her thought and she peeks at her phone. 950 PM...Who could it be so late at night?

She stood up and make her way to the door. What greeted her when she unlocks the door was the sight of Yamato with his guitar and she freezes, hardly believing the scene

“ Yamato ?“

It came out more of a question than a greeting. The boy flick his eye toward her, a soft and sheepish smile begin to spread on his lip

“ Sora ... sorry I drop by so late “

“Doesn’t matter ... I miss you “

“I miss you too .. that why I came after practice “ the gentle confession send her head racing like it always did. It beat harder when the blond embraces her. Being in his embrace after so long felt comforting ... familiar like it where she belongs and she relishes in it

A gasp makes them break away from the embrace sooner than she would have liked. Whirling around, she saw Piyomon fail attempt of trying to be casual, peeking from the kitchen doorway

“ Piyomon “

“ Don’t mind me “ the Bird Digimon chirp, covering her eye with her wing” you can kiss if you want to “

*Extra: some Piyomon and Yamato cause this scene in tri is just :) set after they started dating in 02

A soft tap at the door breaks his concentration and he misses the last note. He looks up, miffed, he was so close to nailing the song this time

When he comes face to face with an unexpected guest, his annoyance turn into bewilderment

“ Piyomon?” He utter, quickly putting his guitar aside and let the pink bird in. Piyomon strolls in and he glances behind the Digimon, expecting Sora to be behind her. When no one follows Piyomon in, he asks “ where Sora? Did something happen during tennis practice ?”

Piyomon must have caught on to this slight distress and assure him “ she fine, she still at tennis practice. I just need to talk to you alone “

Knowing the girl is safe, he was relieved. Instead, his curiosity piqued. What was Piyomon doing out here alone without Sora? What did they even have to talk about?

“What are you doing out here alone? Sora will be worried if she finds out “

“ It fine, I will go straight home after we talk “ the Child Digimon waves him off. Pointing toward the guitar at the side, she added teasingly “ writing a cheesy love song for Sora?”

“ No ! I wouldn’t do that “ he snapped, hoping his face doesn’t betray him, Piyomon only smile knowingly

“ Sit “

He raised his eyebrow as Piyomon instructed him to sit, motioning toward the couch in the practice room. Who was she to command him? She does know that this was his practice room right? but the serious look make him decide not to question the Digimon and complied with the request

There was silence as Piyomon study him as if pondering over something and he didn’t dare to interrupt her. With each second that pass, the tension, and awkwardness only grew ... where was Gabumon when you need him?

“ You and Sora are dating now “ Piyomon finally break the silence “ which mean you have the power to hurt her “

Suddenly, the purpose of this visit was becoming clear to him “ I wouldn’t hurt her! She... “

“ I’m not done “

A wing was thrust to his lip and he fell silent. Seriously since when was the affectionate Digimon so intimidating?

“ As Sora number one partner, it is my duty to protect her “

“ That debatable “ he can’t help cutting in almost childishly, he was Sora number one partner now. Piyomon seem to pick up on his thought and flap her wing challengingly

“ I am! and that not up for debate !”

He grumbles but let the subject drop for now. After all, He at a disadvantage since she could split out flames

“ Anyway, Gabumon talks highly of you and I think you are a good guy too Yamato. I don’t think you will do anything to upset her but we need to get somethings straight “

He could only nod dumbly, not knowing what else to response

“We both know she likes to bottle up her feeling and keep her problem to herself. She worries more about other than herself and doest take care of herself as much as I want her to ... that why you need to be there for her, assure her it ok to lean on someone too “

“ Always”

“ Just one more thing, treat her with the honesty and respect she deserves and DONT HURT HER”

The Bird Digimon emphasizes the last three words, leaning in the whole time till she was right in his face, her beak barely touching his nose. He back away only to hit the back of the couch

“ She is my favorite person in the world Yamato and I will protect her. You know how powerful I can be ... I might not achieve my ultimate yet but trust me, if I ever find out you hurt her, I will fight MetalGarurumon to get to you “

Just like that, the typical cheerful and friendly expression had returned to the Child Digimon as if the talk didn’t happen. Hopping down, Piyomon head for the exit, calling out brightly “ I will be heading home now and oh Sora doesn’t need to know about this talk”

1/2022: Lake Havasu City, AZ!

I am back, back from where you say? Back home in Cali after a short get away to Lake Havasu City, AZ! What did we do? Most of the same thing, with some new things!

Saturday:

We drove up on a Saturday afternoon, with traffic mostly not there! We drove over to Javelina Cantina for dinner. I may sound controversial when I say this, but its a nice breath of fresh air to not have to wear masks everywhere. Javelina is great mexican food, and the second best Margarita in town. We stopped for some restocking of wine, cheese, and coffee. We watched a couple of movies on Netflix and went to bad waaay too late.

Sunday:

What better way to start off the day than with Shrugrues for brunch? Complimented with a Chocolate Martini. Man, I am not typically a Martini person but this place makes a killer drink. The brunch menu itself is really good, has some different things on it and even its basic items are done well. We rested after that and got ready for dinner at Angelina’s Italian Kitchen. This right here is the best Italian in town. You need to try the Cannoli.

Monday:

The other great breakfast place is Makai Cafe. Its got the greatest people, classic home made food, and awful coffee. Its great. We walked along the london bridge to walk off food, its such a cool bridge! It is actually from London! The shops on the other side of the water ways are so cute. There is a casino on the “california” side that you can pay $2 to take a boat to/from. The boat is great, do not sit on the bottom (the top is better...Thats What She Said). It was closed, but it looked like it wasn’t bad. Problem is, the only thing that is there is the casino. Dinner was Azul Agave, this is the best place in town for anything but especially Margaritas. There is like no ice, I think they freeze the fruit? So good. We also watched a couple of things on Amazon Prime, did you know there are now four Hotel Transylvanias? I did not.

Tuesday:

Our last full day in town! I got my partner’s hair done at Secrets of Beauty Salon, Brandi, the world’s best hair dresser, runs and operates that establishment. After that we all headed to Oatman! I was told it was a ghost town, but its the most lively ghost town I have ever been to. The wild donkey are so adorable! The buildings are old, and yes I did put a dollar bill on the wall of dollar bills. Its that kind of place. The road getting up there and back is windy as hell. Everything was donkey themed, like really all that ass bro! We ended up going back to Azul Agave for dinner when we were back in town. Everything there is good that is the place to try something you have never had before. We came back to the condo and played Farkle, for real money. No risk, no reward right?

Wednesday:

We left about 6 am (AZ time) and made it home in about 4 hours or less. We stopped by Wendys for a frosty, and ended up trying their breakfast. This will probably be a future post but their breakfast is not nearly as good as other places. It was about 10 AM when we got back to SoCal, given we lost an hour coming back. It made for a whole “feeling off” ness for the rest of the day. Did you know gas out in AZ was like 3.25?

Had a great time. Nice to get out, see people, and just get away from it all. Came back and just got right back into being responsible and getting shit done. Can you believe we are almost done with January of 2022?

im having the worst week ive had since about march and ill be honest but i dont honestly know how i survived this last year. it used to be like this all the time if not worse. im getting so many flashbacks and nightmares and shitty memories and im messaging my fp after a year and i am so attatched and he keeps leaving me on read and i keep falling apart every time he does that but i love talking to me and i am so angry with the pastoral twats at my school because i nearly killed myself because they lied to me and i believed it and i dont know what to do its so acedemically focused im cracking under the pressure but i cant do that i have to be strong and get good grades im not having a good day jesus

As Sony is a media giant, it is no surprise that their latest handheld, the PEG-N710C, has support for playing digital audio. What is a surprise is that it has built-in support for the controversial MP3 format, which is the preferred format for music piracy. Sony would rather people use its ATRAC3 format which has copyright protection. The N710C comes with applications that can play both.

Sony handled this in an unusual way. The N710C comes with a version of its Palm Audio Player and desktop app combo that plays MP3s and a completely different set that plays ATRAC3 files. Neither can play the other format.

To store and play MP3s, all that is necessary besides the player is a regular Memory Stick like the one that comes with the N710C.

To store in ATRAC3, a MagicGate Memory Stick is required. Sony's MagicGate technology is intended to protect digital content. These are white, as opposed to regular Memory Sticks that are blue. Windows 2000 users beware, the ATRAC3 version of the desktop software requires FAT32 and won't work with NTFS.

How much music can be stored on a Memory Stick depends on both the size of the MemStick and the quality the file is saved in. At 132 kbps, a 128 MB MemStick can store 120 minutes of music. At 66 kbps, that jumps up to 240 minutes.

However, the 128 MB MemStick is only available in the MagicGate version and it costs a hefty $300. The largest regular one Sony offers is 64 MB for $140.

Of course, it doesn't matter how much music is stored if the battery is dead. Sony says that during audio playback with the screen off the battery should last about 11 hours but only 3 hours with the display on. They have added a convenient button to turn off the screen while playing music.

MP3 Overhyped and Over Priced!

The most overhyped feature of the Clie is its mp3 player functionality. Compared to standalone mp3 players, the clie costs significantly more due to the excessive price of its memory sticks. Sony must make most of its profits off of selling these sticks and sell its pda at a loss, similar to the razor/razor blade analogy. The maximum capacity of these sticks is only 128 mb at $299 with unwanted copyright protection built in whether you like it or not! I read an article about new Creative Labs mp3 players coming out this September which will offer 6-10GB of storage for, you guessed it, $299 and compact at 3' x 6'. Doing simple math, you get 46 times the amount of memory for the same price! Check the link below to read the full article.
