#can you use olive oil on your face for dry skin

Hi! I am working on a story where one of the three protagonist has a burn scar. This character has from the eye to half their right cheek of a burn; this happened around 9 years ago (the character was 10.)
I am working on historical-fantasy setting, I know you guys are not historians but I was hoping you could help me out with ideas.
In my story, there is a few chapters where the characters go to a snowy mountain for a couple of days, and there are temperatures ranging from 20ºF to 10ºF with snow and harsh wind, is there any protection/possible cream needed for the face and the eye for that situation?
Also, around 10% of the story has fights that include armour (including a helmet to protect the face and the head,) would a character with that type of burn may need a special helmet?
Just to clarify, the character for most of the story doesn't have any mask or anything covering their face, except in the moments of battle where every other character is also using a helmet and armour.
Not sure if there is anything potentially problematic in this, but the character got that injury due to a baby dragon of the family accidentally burning his face (this is a society where dragons are like animals and common in the house.) Because it happened so many years ago there isn't any angst feeling or people in his community commenting about, except in a scene where the protagonists are talking about traumatic things and this character mentioned that they remember when it happened his parents were afraid he was not going to make it, not realizing he was hearing it.
There are other background characters with burns, scars and stumps due to the nature of this world, but I am concentrating in this protagonist right now.
Hi!
For weather this cold, your character would need a LOT of moisturizing creams. Possibly a comical amount. They would help to protect the skin from both the wind and cold. Burn scars don't have the natural oils, so his skin would be very dry normally, let alone during the winter. Even in normal temperatures, it's recommended to apply moisture multiple times a day. If something like sunscreen is available to your character, he would use it too (and often). Burns are sensitive to the sun, and some people use it even when it's cloudy. During the winter it's also commonly used because the snow reflects it. (As you said, I'm very much not a historian and I don't know what would work as non-modern equivalents... I assume that shea butter or olive oils could be on the table here? Certainly better than nothing. Or even just Magical Herb Mixture, if it's fantasy.)
As for the eye protection, I would say that most people in 20ºF to 10ºF (-6ºC to -12ºC) would need it, especially if it's both snowing and windy lol. I have experienced those temperatures and it can be hard to see even without extremely sensitive skin/eyes. But generally yes, harsh wind could be actively painful to someone with a burn scar. If it's too hard on him, he could wear some very loose cloth to cover it (prime example of a scenario where a face covering makes medical and just logical sense). It shouldn't be tight; maybe just a large hood or veil that would still be away from that part of their face.
Note: it could also not be painful at all. Burns come with nerve damage, and sometimes nerves make non-painful stimuli hurt really bad, and sometimes they make it so a person doesn't feel pain when they should. If your character is the second, they would bear it better at the time but still have all the other issues - skin breakdown, contraction, cracking, itching.
Not sure what other kind of eye protection would be available, but even regular glasses would help with the "not getting blasted with wind and snow" part. Make sure that with the protection he wears, it doesn't touch the scar directly. That can be extremely painful and cause skin to break in that kind of environment, especially if he's not a regular at the Snowy Mountain. If they are, they will handle it much better - scars get more or less desensitized with repetitive exposure.
For a helmet, I think having it padded from the inside would be a good idea. Preferably with something relatively smooth (maybe cloth or fur?) so that it doesn't scratch the burn. Potentially something to "stabilize" it (maybe their helmet could be custom-made for their exact head size?) so that it doesn't hit his scar over and over too if it's too large. I appreciate that others characters wear helmets too, and that he does for only a minor part of the story :-) (smile emoji))
The backstory scenario sounds fine to me as well! House pet trying to play and causing an injury is definitely a thing when it comes to facial differences haha. I can imagine that it would be even more common if the pet in question is a dragon and not a regular dog.
Having multiple burn survivors in a world with fire-breathing creatures that live in human homes is a nice element of worldbuilding :) (smile emoji)! I think that if this kind of thing happens often, then some of the resources I mentioned (moisturizes, sunblock) would be more readily available for your main character and people in similar sets of circumstances.
Thank you for your ask, I hope it helped a bit!

A grand retinue accompanied Prince Oberyn Martell and his wife Nala on their journey north to attend the wedding of Lord Stark's eldest son. The journey was replete with delightful surprises and, regrettably, some less pleasant ones. One of their travel days found them lodged in an inn nestled amidst the forested lands of the North. The weather was cold and crisp, the air dry and biting, causing Oberyn to grumble about the layers of clothing encasing his form. Nala found his discomfort amusing—this man is averse to decency.
As they were enjoying their meal in the inn, a trio of golden-haired men strode in, their disdainful expressions evident as they cast disparaging glances at the other patrons. Murmuring curses under their breath, they took a seat at a nearby table, much to the discomfort of those around them. Nala sensed the tension in the air, recognizing the unmistakable look of Lannisters. She knew all too well her husband's scorn for them. Desperate to diffuse the situation, she attempted to divert his attention away from them, whispering softly, “My love, look at me,” noticing his gaze fixed upon them with obvious contempt.
The Lannister men, oblivious to her attempt to diffuse the tension, noticed her caress on his thigh and exchanged mocking remarks amongst themselves. “Why does such beauty consort with that Dornish bastard?” one of them jeered, his laughter echoing loudly in the room. “This whore should try to get with a real cock... a Lannister one,” another added, patting his bulge and leering at her. “Just give him a shaved goat and an olive oil bottle and be done with it,” the third chimed in before all three joined in uproarious laughter.
Nala could feel the blood charring beneath her skin, her heart pounding in her ribcage as she dreaded her husband's reaction to the insults. She observed the vein running through his neck pulsating beneath his golden skin, indicating the rage boiling within him. Despite his efforts to conceal it, a smirk tinged with bitterness adorned his face, masking the fury that simmered beneath the surface.
With graceful poise, he rose from his seat, his hand drifting toward the dagger secured at his hip—a weapon fashioned in the likeness of two intertwined vipers; its smooth, golden surface gleaming in the dim light of the inn. Slowly and deliberately, he approached their table, his gaze locking onto the perpetrator who had called his wife a whore.
Oberyn's tongue clicked disapprovingly as he addressed the men, his tone dripping with mockery. “Do you know why the world despises a Lannister?” he quipped, his words laden with scorn. “You believe your wealth, your lions, and your gilded pride make you superior to all.” The Lannister men exchanged smug glances, sharing a condescending chuckle amongst themselves. One of the trio stealthily reached for his sword, attempting to draw it from its sheath without detection. Yet, unbeknownst to them, he noticed—he always does.
“May I tell you a secret?” Oberyn continued, his voice carrying a hint of amusement. “You're not a golden lion. You're just a pink little man who is far too slow on the draw.” With a swift motion, he unsheathed his dagger and plunged it into the hand of the man who had insulted his wife, the same hand he had earlier used to pat his cock. Piercing between the carpals of that hand, it now lay on the table. The man let out a guttural wail, paralyzed in his place as the dagger twisted amidst flesh, bone, and veins.
“When I pull my blade, your friend starts bleeding,” Oberyn stated calmly, a smirk playing on his lips. “Quite a lot, I'm afraid. So many veins in the wrist.” He observed the man writhing in pain before turning his gaze back to the other Lannister. “He'll live if you get him help straight away,” he added mockingly, his eyes glinting with mischief. “Decisions,” Oberyn remarked, his head tilting slightly as his gaze shifted to the bleeding man again. “And when you speak of a dornish princess—my wife—you will address her as ‘your highness,’” he continued, his tone carrying a dangerous edge. “Lest you wish for me to sever your tongue at its root.”
He withdrew his dagger from the man’s hand, the Dornish soldiers surrounding him, swords and spears at the ready. One of them addressed him, “What shall we do with them, Your Highness?”
“Nothing,” Oberyn replied calmly, wiping the blood from his dagger with the end of his shawl. "I reckon they've learned a lesson or two about manners from the Dornish, and I expect they'll find their own way out.” With a dismissive wave, he turned to walk toward Nala, who stood frozen with fear, wide-eyed, and breathing shakily.
“Apologies, my love,” he said tenderly, encircling his arms around her waist and pressing a soft kiss to her lips. Nestling her gently in his embrace, as though she were the most delicate of blossoms.
Ever the viper; deadly, dangerous, unpredictable... and mine.
A familiar primal heat stirred within her, much to her chagrin as she cursed herself for succumbing to it.
Gods be good, this shouldn’t ignite a fire within me and make me crave him and the dagger he wielded in my defense.
She kissed him with fervor, her hands caressing his face, yearning to melt into him and merge with him completely. As they parted, both breathless, he chuckled softly. "I see you enjoyed that, princess?" he whispered, prompting a blush to bloom across her cheeks—was I too obvious?
He pulled out the chair for her to resume her place at the table, a gallant gesture amidst the chaos caused by the departing Lannisters, who left mutilated and humiliated.
Throughout the meal, Nala’s gaze remained fixed on Oberyn, her desire for him evident in her unwavering stare. Yet, her eyes also flickered occasionally to the dagger sheathed at his side, her longing palpable. Catching her subtle glances, Oberyn couldn't help but tease her with a smirk. “My love, you are eyeing that dagger as if it were your lover,” he quipped, his tone playful and suggestive.
She regarded him incredulously, her expression stern, before a laugh escaped her lips, unable to resist his irreverence. “What? People engage in all forms of pleasure,” he remarked casually, a hint of mischief in his tone. “I’d be curious to witness you attempting one of these forms, my love,” he added, raising an eyebrow, his smirk unyielding—the infamous smirk that both infuriated and delighted her.
“How in the Seven Hells would I engage in such forms, Oberyn?" she retorted, her tone a blend of amusement and exasperation, unsure whether to marvel at his wit or roll her eyes at his audacity.
He chuckled, unfazed, and resumed his meal, prompting her to shake her head in bemusement before following suit, both indulging in their food as if nothing out of the ordinary had occurred.
As they retired to their chambers, the earlier unpleasant encounter and their playful banter lingered in her mind, unable to shake off the eagerness she felt for him.
Not surprisingly, he seemed equally consumed by their earlier conversation. Upon entering their room and securing the door behind them, he immediately closed the distance between them, kissing her hungrily. His hands roamed over her body, gripping her ass firmly, igniting a fire within her and causing desire to pool between her thighs.
Breaking away from their passionate embrace, he strode to the bed and plunged his dagger into the mattress, securing it firmly in place. Only the gleaming, serpent-shaped handle remained visible.
"What... what are you doing?" Nala inquired, perplexed by his actions.
“I long to see you mount it," he declared simply, taking a seat on the wooden chair facing the bed.
"Mount it how?" she questioned, furrowing her brow in confusion.
"Like you mount my cock every night," he replied with a crooked smile.
She stood in stunned silence, her thoughts swirling with a mixture of surprise and anticipation. The unexpected request from her husband both startled her and ignited a flicker of excitement deep within her. It was not uncommon for him to embrace unconventional pleasures, to seek out new experiences in their intimate moments together.
She offered a gentle smile before beginning to shed her dress, letting the fabric cascade down her form like water, revealing the delicate curve of her clavicle, the supple swell of her breasts and their hardened peaks, her glistening cunt between her thighs, before finally pooling at her feet.
His gaze lingered upon her with a hunger that seemed to devour her, as if he yearned to possess this beauty solely for himself, to adore… to pleasure and treasure... wholly and entirely his.
She moved with grace toward the bed, settling and facing him, her eyes fixed on the dagger embedded in the mattress before her. It was the very same dagger he wielded to protect her, a silent warning to any who dared to show her disrespect.
She lifted herself slightly before sinking into it, feeling the cold metal filling her searing flesh. Her eyes closed, lips parting as she relished the peculiar sensation, the ridges of the handle gliding against her inner walls, deliciously. It was unfamiliar yet pleasing, strangely fitting. She quickened her pace, with each rise and fall, soft moans escaping her lips and filling the room. Her breasts bounced with each movement, a testament to the pleasure coursing through her.
Oberyn watched her with an insatiable hunger, enchanted by her allure. She accepted his offerings eagerly, with devotion, her yearning unwavering as she sought to be filled with everything that was his. Whether his fingers, his cock, or even his dagger, she embraced it all, an extension of him in every way.
He felt the bulge in his breeches grow bigger, his cock throbbing painfully with desire, yearning to pierce that sweet cunt of hers, to fill her with his seed over and over again til it takes. He longed to hear her soft moans as he pushed her to the brink of bliss, feeling her warm, wet, and wanting in his embrace.
He freed his hardened cock, his hand beginning to caress it with slow, deliberate strokes, as she mounted his dagger with unyielding ardor, deriving her pleasure from it. Her gaze met his, lethal and luring, eyes that could have felled him had she not been his.
Her movements became erratic, her moans blending into strained whimpers. She slipped her hand down frantically to circle her soaked clit, driving her closer to her release. Collapsing onto the mattress, she murmured his name, her thighs trembling with pleasure.
Rising from his seat, he approached her, cradled her languid form, and moved her to the center of the bed, laying her on her back. He spread her thighs apart, watching her clenching sex seep her release, delicately. He nudged the head of his cock to her entrance. Her cunt sucked him in effortlessly, eliciting a soft whine from her lips as he filled her. He laid atop her, his weight offering a comforting warmth she had always longed for, drawing her closer to him before thrusting into her fervently.
Mine, my love, mine… all fucking mine, the Others take them all.
He nipped at the tender flesh of her breasts and shoulder, his warmth flooding her as he spilled his cum deep within her, his breath ragged.
After their heaving chests stilled, she gently raised her hand to brush the damp curls from his forehead, meeting his gaze. “I love you most ardently, my fierce viper,” she whispered.

Medicinal Remedies
Medicinal Remedies-- This is a LONG one!
NOTE: This article is about 20 of my favorite medicinal healing herbs to grow in most garden areas and types of soil. There are 100’s more, though, that I just couldn’t include because of space. Enjoy this rundown of 20 of my favorites.
Tumblr media
1) Calendula:
Calendula is one of my top five favorite herbs of all time. It's sunny yellow or orange face can't help but make me smile. In summer time, it grows like crazy, just about anywhere, and like other flowers, the bees love it.
Calendula has some super skin healing and strengthening properties, and I always have some infusing in olive oil in a sunny window for use in salves, soaps, and other body products.
Calendula is also edible, and it's so fun to toss some blooms in your salad! It really brightens things up and adds excellent color. I love Calendula.
Calendula just makes you smile.
2) Cayenne:
Here is another herb I think should be in every garden. Cayenne is a very hot and pretty red pepper with some excellent culinary uses for adding spice to foods.
It's also great for helping with circulatory problems, can be used to help stop bleeding since it's a hemostatic herb, and has been shown to be useful in helping slow or even stop a heart attack until help can arrive.
It's also a very attractive plant, and the bright red of the pepper is just gorgeous mixed Into the dark green of the plant's leaves. This is one herb you should definitely grow if you can, and have handy in your herbal medicine chest.
Cayenne grows like crazy, especially in warmer climates. They dry well, too.
3) Chamomile:
Like Lavender, what would an herbal garden be without sweet Chamomile? It's honey scent and sweet taste are an absolute pleasure. Besides that....Chamomile is a popular relaxant and mild sedative herb.
Need to de-stress? Drink a bit of Chamomile tea!
Chamomile is also useful as an anti-inflammatory, as it contains high levels of azulene. It helps with pain relief, including for arthritis. If you are heading to bed and are bothered by mild pain, try drinking some chamomile tea! In one clinical study, this helped 10 out of 12 people fall into a restful sleep. (Gladstar)
Growing Chamomile can be tricky in very hot climates. It likes full sun, but a cooler climate. Chamomile is also best grown in less maintained soil and doesn't need the rich fertilization other plants require.
4) Chickweed:
Chickweed is another one of those "weeds" that is completely misunderstood and has some excellent medicinal qualities.
It's Latin name, (stellaria) means "star," and that is because of its small, pretty starlike white flowers. It's easy to grow, and has many uses.
Chickweed supports liver and kidney health due to its high nutrition and diuretic properties. It's also wonderful in salves for healing skin issues, including rashes, eczema, and very dry skin.
Chickweed is a great diuretic and blood purifier.
5) Dandelion:
This prolific weed, as some people see when they notice Dandelion in their yard, is actually a powerfully helpful medicinal herb! Dandelion is terrific for your liver and kidney health, having diuretic properties.
It's also an edible plant! You can roast the roots and add it to teas and even your coffee for a delicious flavor that also packs a healthy punch. The leaves can be eaten in salads and other foods.
6) Feverfew:
Feverfew has lovely white flowers and at least where I live, is rather invasive. I don't mind, though, because it has a great number of medicinal benefits.
As its name connotes, feverfew is helpful with reducing fevers. Most recently, however, feverfew has become rather well-known for helping with migraines, both preventing and reducing the intensity and time.
One of my favorite teas to provide for people who suffer from migraines is: 1 part feverfew, 1 part spearmint, and 1 part lemon balm. This is a soothing, nervine combination, that along with the powers of feverfew, can be used as daily tonic.
Feverfew is also great for minor bug bites. Just apply the tincture topically. Since it has mild pain relieving properties, it will help with the discomfort too.
7) Garlic:
Garlic is one of the BEST all around medicinal herbs anyone can grow, in my opinion. It's useful for treating colds, flus, sore throats, and digestive issues. Garlic boosts the immune system by increasing and stimulating the production of white blood cells.
Garlic is antiseptic, anti-bacterial, and vermifuge (kills parasites). It is also useful as a blood purifier and helps promote healthy circulation. It may also help regulate blood sugar levels in those with type 2 diabetes.
Besides all these wonderful benefits, garlic is delicious! It's added to so many foods and dishes because of the flavor it imparts. Granted, using garlic medicinally is different than in culinary uses, but if you really want to "eat thy medicine," as Hippocrates famously stated, garlic is a great place to start.
8) Ginger:
Oh, what would the herb world be without Ginger? This sweet and spicy pungent herb is actually a rhizome, not a root, as many believe. The useful part grows under ground, so is often confused.
Ginger is stimulating and is a great additive for teas, tinctures, and fermented foods, as well as culinary uses. Ginger is anti-inflammatory, decongesting, and increases circulation, promoting warmth. Ginger is also excellent for flatulence and stomach issues, including nausea.
Ginger likes a tropical environment---hot and humid. Therefore, unless you live down South, Ginger would most likely need to be grown in a green house.
9) Lavender:
What would the herbal world be without lavender? It's good for SO many things. Lavender smells wonderful, the bees love it, it's great for medicinal uses, AND it's a gorgeous flower. Lavender is useful for air freshening and cleaning the air or freshening closed up places such as drawers. It's popular in sachets for this reason.
Lavender is actually relatively hardy, growing well in Zones 5 through 8. If you are in a colder zone, be sure to plant your lavender in an area where it will get plenty of sunshine and be as warm as possible. If your winters are rough, you'll need to provide your lavender with some type of protection, especially from harsh winds.
I had some planted in pots here in the mountains, and it did very well all summer long. Even through snows, it was fine. But we get wind speeds over 125 miles an hour at times, and lavender just didn't last through that. Not much will, I guess.
Lavender is useful for so many things---AND it smells incredible.
10) Lemon Balm:
Lemon Balm....I LOVE this species of mint. It smells lovely, the bees love it, and it grows well nearly everywhere. Lemon Balm has a pleasant lemony taste and is a great additive in herbal teas, both for the nutritive value as well as the soothing nature and relaxing effects it has on the body.
11) Marshmallow:
This probably isn't included in too many herbalist's garden lists, but I think Marshmallow is seriously necessary. It's a demulcent and soothing herb, and it complements "hotter" herbs very well. It also soothes inflammation in mucous membranes and is one of my favorite herbs to use for allergy blends or teas for any kind of inflammation in the body for this reason.
Marshmallow is an upright plant, similar to a very small hollyhock. In fact, if you can grow hollyhocks where you are---you can use it pretty much interchangeably with Marshmallow as their chemical constituents are very similar.
The flowers are light pink and very pretty, too. The entire plant is edible and useful for medicinal purposes. Go ahead and throw a few flowers into your salad for a beautiful and surprising presentation!
Marshmallow is a demulcent anti-inflammatory. Plus, it's pretty.
12) Mullein:
This is yet another plant many see as just a weed, but has some truly wonderful medicinal qualities. Mullein is a plant that grows from a rosette of fuzzy large leaves into a tall stalk (sometimes as high as 7 feet tall) and is covered with yellow flowers in mid-summer.
Mullein does best in full sun, with lots of water, in cooler areas. It grows really well in the creek beds up here in our mountains, but I've heard it is very common in almost all places. It's worth trying to cultivate, in my opinion, if you don't have it growing naturally in your area.
Mullein is one of the best herbs you can use to support and heal the respiratory system and illnesses that affect the lungs, sinuses, and breathing. It's useful as a tea, tincture, and the large leaves can be used in an emergency to cover a poultice.
In my opinion, Mullein is the premier herb for respiratory issues.
13) Oregano
Oregano seems to be the bane of many gardener's existence. They plant it, and it just goes crazy. I can't tell you how many neighbors, family members, and friends have given me Oregano from their yards over the years! And I'm glad to have it! The thing with Oregano is you have to know how to manage it.
Oregano is a fabulous culinary herb, and if you have ever had pizza or marinara sauce, then you've tasted this delicious Mediterranean herb. Oregano grows best in warm, dry climates, but I have found in my experience that it is quite hardy and can survive winter lows in the single digits (at least it does in my yard).
Oregano (also known as Mountain of Joy in Greek) has some excellent medicinal uses, including having anti-viral, anti-biotic, anti-fungal properties, as well as being very high in anti-oxidants. It's a great skin care herb and also a digestive aid.
Oregano can be used in many forms, too: As a tincture, an herbal infused oil, eaten in foods, and as an essential oil. These all have different strengths, potencies, and uses.
The tincture is an easy way to use the herb medicinally, along with making or using in an herbal tea.
14) Peppermint:
Super easy to grow just about anywhere, Peppermint is a spreading perennial that has the propensity to take over your garden if you allow it! It's spicy, pungent scent is well known to just about everyone, since it's a popular culinary additive in many foods and candies.
Medicinally, Peppermint is useful for aiding digestion and getting rid of flatulence (gas). It has mild anti-spasmodic properties, so if you are experiencing cramps, especially digestive types or menstrual cramps, it can be very helpful.
15) Plantain:
Here is another weed that many people find repugnant, but that is actually an incredibly useful medicinal herb!
According to Rosemary Gladstar, Plantain grows everywhere, and if you invite it in, it will definitely show up.
Plantain is great for liver health, detoxifying and cleansing the blood, and drawing out toxins. I like to infuse it in oil for use in healing salves.
Like Dandelion, this easy to find weed is edible and useful.
16) Rosemary:
Rosemary is a famous culinary herb, and is great for use on red meats and very pungent dishes. Besides this, rosemary has been proven to be helpful for the brain, especially memory functions.
It's high in anti-oxidants, and has mild analgesic (pain relief) properties. Rosemary is a stimulant herb, and is helpful with circulation and low blood pressure. People with high blood pressure need to exercise caution using rosemary medicinally.
Rosemary grows best in hot, dry climates and is native to the Southern European countries.
Besides being a pungent and delicious culinary herb, rosemary provides medicinal qualities and enhances memory.
17) St. John's Wort:
St. John's Wort is a misunderstood plant, in my opinion. It went through a popular phase a few years ago and was touted as being the new natural anti-depressant. St. John's Wort can absolutely help with feelings of mild depression, sadness, grief, and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), but it's not a cure-all.
Important to know---St. John's Wort can interact with certain drugs, so be sure you discuss usage with your doctor (as you should with any of these herbs mentioned).
St. John's Wort is also great for neuralgia, and I personally use it as part of my back pain and sciatica regimen with excellent results. I also use it in a tincture form to lift my spirits if I'm feeling down.
Besides all the medicinal qualities of St. John's Wort, it's a really pretty plant. You won't be able to grow it in a super hot area, however, at least it's unlikely. I tried growing it in Las Vegas, and it was a total fail. However, it does well here in the mountains in full sun or partial shade and the cooler climate.
One of my favorite ways to prepare St. John's Wort is as an herbal infused oil. The medicinal species (H. perforatum) releases bright red juices into the oil, creating the most lovely infused oil.
Another safety note for the garden: St. John's Wort has been shown to have potential for phototoxicity, especially in grazing animals if they eat too much. Just be aware and watch what your pastured animals eat.
St. John's Wort is a wonderful healing herb that positively affects the emotions.
18) Thyme:
Thyme, in my opinion, is one of the best plants to use in your garden. It attracts bees, smells lovely, and is incredibly useful for medicinal purposes. It's a small, spreading herb (although some species will grow upright) that is fairly hardy, so if you have rough winters, it may do just fine---you'll be seeing it again in the Spring, with it's pretty scented purple flowers.
Many herbalists forget all about using thyme as a preventative medicinal herb or for helping heal quickly from colds and flus---but it has been shown to fight off colds.
It also has disinfectant properties, and can be used as an effective wash for skin infections or as great sore throat rinse. For medicinal purposes, Thymus vulgaris or Thymus citriodorus (Lemon Thyme) are the best to use.
19) Valerian:
This stately flowering plant can grow to about four feet tall and has lacy white flower clusters. Not only is it a lovely addition to your garden, but it is very useful. It's a strong but safe sedative and is very useful for helping with anxious feelings, sleep issues, and pain relief.
Contraindications: Valerian has the opposite effect on some people, so if you are using it for the first time, do so on a the eve of a day that won't affect you much. These folks are rare, but there are definitely some that don't tolerate it well.
One of nature's best gifts---Valerian is lovely and it is an excellent safe sedative.
20) Yarrow:
Yarrow has many tiny flowers that grow in bunches, and feathery grayish leaves. It's a very pretty plant for your garden. Besides, the parts that grow above ground (leaves, stems, flowers) have medicinal purposes and have been used for thousands of years.
Yarrow is a vulnerary, hemostatic herb. Besides helping with healing and clotting of wounds, yarrow is good for helping reduce fevers, hay fever, and fighting colds. As a fever reducer, it is important to note that yarrow induces sweating, so if the person already has a hot fever, yarrow is probably not the best choice to use.

BYOMA Cleansing Oil ($12.99)
5/5 - I picked this up from my local target - I have been really enjoying this cleanser. When I have on makeup, I use this then the Milky Jelly Cleanser, but a lot of days I use this as my only cleanser. It’s really gentle on the skin and cleanses it without overly stripping it. This is probably one of the best oil cleansers I’ve ever tried. And it’s at Target. I use two pumps for my face. It removes eye makeup very gently and thoroughly without tugging on the skin or lashes. I was able to remove glitter with this too. I’ve personally used olive oil before when my mascara just wouldn’t come off and this cleanser works better than that. For reference.
PACIFICA Vegan Collagen Recovery Night Cream ($26.00)
2/5 - I bought this at target for $22.00 USD and since then there has been a price increase. I really wanted to like this night cream. Now, this is a collagen night cream, which contrary to popular clickbait skincare, does not increase collagen production. It contains collagen, which does not penetrate the deep layers of the skin (where your own collagen is produced), but what it does do is condition the skin a lot. Topical collagen is very good for that. That’s what I bought this with intentions of, since I tend to have normal to dry skin with topical dehydration, plus skin sensitivity. Now, this cream made my skin flush and it really didn’t moisturize as much as I expected it to as a night cream. This has some fragrance in it and I think that’s the ingredient that my skin did not like. It was not a good sensation. Way too expensive for what it is.
Saltair Serum Body Wash ($12.00)
5/5 - I got this at my local target, in scents “Exotic Pulp” and “Lush Greens”. I love both of the scents. As previously mentioned, I have sensitive skin. All my skin is sensitive. I’ve been really struggling to find a good body wash that isn’t very expensive and works for my skin. It’s probably been 4 years of looking for something that worked. This works. This body wash is very gentle without leaving the skin feeling “grubby” or oily. I can use this on my chest, where I have issues with body ache and breakouts, and I believe the niacinamide in this formula actually helped with that. “Exotic Pulp” is a tropical, citrus scent, like mangos, passionfruit, and oranges .”Lush Greens” is a very green smell, like a kale drink, but with a little bit of fruit, very fresh. I love both of these. A lot. I haven’t had dry patches, irritated areas, or hives, which I have had before from other body washes. And it’s $12.
Necessaire Body Wash ($25)
4/5 - I ordered this directly from Necessiare’s website. This is a really good body wash. I don’t really like the “Eucalyptus” scent, but it does smell like diluted eucalyptus, so it does smell like that. This doesn’t irritate my skin, I’m just not a massive smell of the scents. They do have an unscented version available. My biggest issue with it is the price. I don’t want to pay $25 for a body wash. It’s really good though. I just wish it was a little cheaper for how much you get. My favorite scent is “Bergamot” in this line, which is very bergamot and almost mossy. It’s good.
Necessaire Body Lotion ($28)
4/5 - I ordered this directly from Necessaire’s website. This is one of the only body lotions I’ve used that works for my skin. No breakouts, no greasy film, my skin actually absorbs it, and no irritation. My skin does not like coconut oil and this product has none. This one has no fragrance added so that’s not a factor I need to worry about. I hate the price. I don’t wanna pay $28 for something I go through rather quickly. But this lotion saved me this winter. So. I’ll probably still buy it but begrudgingly.
Frenshe Body Wash ($10.99)
3/5 - I got this at my local target. This is a pretty good body wash. I’m personally not crazy about any of the scents, but they are certainly not bad at all. My biggest qualm about this is that it dried out my skin a bit. It left it feeling tight. However, if you can tolerate body wash better than me, you’ll probably like it. I think the scents are generally very gender-neutral.
The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner ($13.00)
4/5 - I got this at my local Target since it has an Ulta Beauty inside. I did not buy this for my face initially, I have some areas on my body where I like to exfoliate and my skin reacts to AHA’s very well. This works great on my body, I’ve had no irritation and I‘ve seen improvement in texture/breakouts. I did try this on my face and I did not like it. It has an oily consistency and it just sat on my face really weird. It didn’t really sink into my face well at all. So I really only use this on my body now and honestly, it’s fine because that’s why I bought it in the first place.

Beauty Magic: Beauty Oil for Hair, Skin, Candles and More! 🌹
Tumblr media
So I’ve already written about a beauty water, now it’s time for a beauty oil! For us natural hair beauties, you can use this to seal your ends after spritzing or conditioning your hair. You can also use it on your skin! Avocado oil has a comedogenic rating of 3, which means it may clog some people’s pores and make them break out, so be wary of using it on your face. This isn’t the case for everyone, though, so feel free to give it a test run! The rest of these oils are generally known to not clog the pores of most people, however. :) And they’re all amazing for hair! Add a few drops to your body lotion or hair cream and watch the magic happen. All of these ingredients are associated with beauty, youthfulness and love!
Ingredients
Avocado Oil (love, beauty)
Olive Oil (peace, prosperity)
Sweet Almond Oil (wealth, abundance, love)
Jojoba Oil (love)
Rosehip Oil (love)
Rose petals--fresh, dried, whatever you have on hand! (love, beauty)
You could add a few drops of vanilla extract if you wanted to, as well! Not too much, though, because alcohol is drying. True rose oil isn’t available to most of us, so rose petals will have to do. Make sure they’re organic and don’t contain any pesticides!
Use one part avocado oil and one part olive oil as your base. Place your rose petals into a squeeze bottle and pour the oil over them. Add a teaspoon to a tablespoon of the rest of your oils, screw on your bottle top and give everything a good shake. You can set it on an altar or under the full moon to charge, or even among some pink and white candles. You could use this for your hair and body, and you can use it to dress candles and other objects with as well. It’s multipurpose! And it makes an amazing base for a sugar scrub. ;)
(I'm cleaning up my blog and reposting some of my spells/etc that were once hosted on my website.💕)

Tumblr media
So with the mind-boggling hilarity of people feeling the need to defend taking care of their skin, I wanted to do an update of my original skincare post. That I of course can't find, presently, as the search function on this site is still useless!
First of all, come to terms with the fact that you are walking around with a giant organ on the outside of your body (ahurhurhur).
Yes, preventing skin cancer is priority one when it comes to your dermis. Sunscreen isn't the only defense, having skin with a healthy moisture barrier is part of that prevention as well. ALSO, one thing a lot of those posts desperately yelping "It'S nOt BeAuTy StAnDaRdS!" leave out is, uh, the scary shit that can happen to your skin when you're elderly. Your skin WILL get thinner, that's just aging. Taking care of it now (keeping it stretchy and moisturized) gives it a better chance of not being paper-thin, to the point that the person taking care of you has to be mindful not to freaking tear it off of you just helping you get dressed.
If you have a strong stomach, go ahead and read some stories from hospice and other types of elder care workers. There's a whole contraption for lowering people down slowly if they're about to fall, all to prevent skin splitting or sloughing off.
Age spots are beautiful. Care-worn wrinkles and laugh lines are beautiful. Your arm skin sloughing off like a glove is not.
Fucking moisturize.
Is a side effect of that care often fewer of those lines? Sure, MAYBE, sometimes. It also doesn't at ALL require 18 expensive steps. Even before I left my job I was mainly using the best I could find for the least amount of money. Almost everything listed I've been using for over a year at least! Aldi-brand skincare is amazingly quality, as you'll see.
Washing:
Lacura Foaming Gel Cleanser: Super gentle and nice for a daily face wash. When I want to use it as a makeup-remover, I'll pump it into a super-soft sea sponge so I can scrub a bit more, albeit gently.
I don't get big breakouts much at this point (regular cleansing and moisturizing will usually chill your skin out eventually re: feeling the need to over-produce oil). But I do keep some Neutrogena Face Wash around for when I get breakouts anywhere, maybe a handful of times a month.
I don't know how much benefit I REALLY see from toner, as far as my pores. They seem fine! Mostly I just loooove the feeling of swiping it on fresh from the fridge, and the coolness does calm down the skin and sooth any puffiness. I still make my own Rosewater Toner with wilting discount grocery store roses and a few drops of lavender oil.
Goops:
Lacura Day And/Or Night Creams: These are SO AFFORDABLE (I'm using Amazon links for ease of reference, they are WAY cheaper directly from Aldi) and make your skin feel like butter. After washing and toning one or the other is what I glop on next, and a little goes a long way. Night cream is important because the skin under your eyes especially is so super thin, it needs that protection as we get older. But eye creams tend to be STUPID EXPENSIVE. Lacura is around $4 at Aldi and I legit see very little difference between it and the unsustainably expensive ones I've tried in the past.
Ponds Dry Skin Cream: The old reliable. I have used it since I was 19 and Oprah said it was good, lol. If you use nothing else on your face, use this (but also sunscreeen, dear gods). After Day or Night cream, this comes next.
A good rule of thumb for all moisturizers is that you don't want it to disappear into your skin immediately OR stay too greasy. As I've gotten older, this one sits on my skin longer, so I tend to only use it at night in the summer. Once it gets cold and dry out, though, morning and night baby.
Vaseline Cocoa Radiant: For the all-over-rest-of-me, you really can't beat it. After every shower or bath, all over everything, damnit. LUBE YOUR DERM.
Oil:
Olive Oil Squalane: My last step of the night is topping my face with a good Squalane before bed. My old job discontinued the one I swear by, pictured above, which, I have no idea why? It feels soooo nice and I saw such good results in the winter especially. I bought up a bunch of bottles from work before it disappeared, haha but there are soooo many options out there for a lot of different prices. Basically you want the main ingredients to be Olive Oil & Herbs, usually Rosemary.
Treat Yourself Tier:
Innersense Harmonic Treatment Oil: I was given a gift card to them for my birthday last year, and yeah they're reeeeeally wom-wom and a little insufferable in their marketing, and they're expensive. HOWEVER, this stuff is infuriatingly great? Nothing was helping my dry scalp until this. I use it instead of the Squalane maybe once a week on my face as well, and it definitely clears up any redness or irritation right away. How dare it be good and also $25 an ounce. But if you can treat yourself, why not!
Dead Sea Mud Masks: Masks are FUN, damnit. If you can ignore all the annoying "detoxing" claims and blah blah, it is a fact that mud masks can really flush out those pores. And they feel nice!
General Habits:
Wash Your Pillowcases: They're full of your face goo, skin cells, and slobber. Not only good for your skin, but just nice. Wash your sheets/bedding more regularly in general, if you're like me then I know you're not doing it enough. Make the change to fragrance-free detergent now if you haven't already, that shit could start bothering your skin at ANY time. My mother never had a problem with good ol' Tide, until she turned 60 and suddenly ANY fragranced soaps made her skin explode.
Wash Your Makeup Tools: Same as above, I regularly gross myself out watching all the GUNK that's stored in the pretty pink makeup brushes.
Wash Hats, Headbands, Etc: Hopefully the pattern is sinking in. If it touches your skin regularly? It should be washed regularly. It's easy to remember that your clothes do, of course, but there's so many other things as well that are fulla your skin cells, various products, pollution, and sebum. Scientists could probably clone you with access to the inner band of your favorite hat alone.
SUN SCREEN: EVERY TIME YOU GO OUT IN VIEW OF THE FIRE ORB. Sensitive face/skin? Baby sunscreen. I know texture is a big thing for people, but there are lots of different brands out there that have lots of different textures, ingredients, scents, etc. Don't give up on it just because Coppertone makes you break out, you owe it to yourself to find the thing that works for you. Skin cancer is a bitch that spares no one, not even Hugh Nicest Man Ever Jackman.
Drink Water: You know it, I know it, same as above, find the way to get regular hydration in that works for you. I personally like making my own fruity flavored syrups to dash in things. Hydrated skin begins from within, blah blah blah.
Vitamins: Take a multi-vitamin, get your vitamin D. The sun is not BEAMING VITAMINS INTO YOUR PORES, it synthesis it. A quick google will tell you that 8-10 minutes in the sun A DAY is all you need. So don't let anyone tell you BUT YOUR VITAMIN D!!!!!!! when you're layering on your sun screen. Take your vitamins, get a teaspoon of sun regularly, and then GOOP UP.
Tumblr media
I'm no expert, just someone with a mother & grandmother who greatly regret/regretted their lack of skin care as younger women. My mom is 75 and she has lines and spots, and she's beautiful! But her skin can tear after a clumsy trip into a door frame. She's listening to her dermatologist now to the letter, and I too would like to avoid that as much as possible! We all deserve to like how our spongy flesh prisons feel.

Let food be thy medicine
part 2 of to break bread, the series about soulbounds and food
Ao3
–––
“Ah the bloomin’- darnit.”
Etho looks up from his armour-polishing, raising an eyebrow. “Having trouble?”
“You could say that, yeah.” Joel is making an angry face at the crafting table, on which he’s placed a variety of vegetables. Right in the middle is a lamb’s shoulder, which seems to be the cause of Joel’s upset.
“That mutton say something to ya?”
Joel looks at Etho, confused. “What? No, no, it’s just…” He turns back to the mutton. “I’m trying to remember how to do this recipe.”
“Which is?”
“I can’t remember the name. All I know is that I know it, probably from somewhere else.” Joel shrugs. “Anyways, I’m trying to recreating the blooming thing, but I’m hitting a wall.”
Etho sets the armour down and walks over to Joel. “Do you have everything you need?”
“Yeah, nicked most of these from Timmy and Tango.”
Etho chuckles. “Nice. So what do we need to do now? Need anything to cook it?”
Joel breathes in deep, closing his eyes for a bit. “I think we need to make an earth oven. But…” he sharply intakes a breath, “I don’t know how to make an earth oven.”
Etho perks up. “I can make it.”
Joel opens his eyes and looks at him, hesitant. “Can you?”
“You don’t have to baby me because I got shot earlier.”
“It was through your chest, Etho, I thought we were about to lose a life.”
“Hey, I’m better now, and the faster we make this, the faster I can eat.”
Joel sighs. “Fine, just don’t strain yourself.”
“Sure thing mom.”
Joel raises a hand as if to hit him, but seems to restrain himself. “Alright, alright,” he eventually sighs out. A resigned smile shows on his face as he meets Etho’s eyes. “Then roll up your sleeves, big boy, ‘cause we’ve got some work to do.”
It’s been a while since Etho’s had to make an earth oven, but he trusts his memory enough. He gets to work digging down a foot-deep pit. He walks around and gathers some rocks to line it; he remembers seeing a lot by the ravine’s river, but also remembers the last time he used riverbed rocks (they exploded, resulting in a very confusing chat message). So, he resorts to collecting them from the surrounding area around the Relation Ship. He lines the floor and walls of the pit with them, adds a layer of charcoal, then starts to prepare the fire.
He whips out his axe, gathers dry firewood, and splits them lengthwise down the middle, arranging a campfire in the pit. He lights a pinecone—one of the many he’s picked up—with a flint and steel, setting it amongst the kindling. They’re a strong source of fuel, and they burn brightly and for long enough that the wood soon catches fire. Etho fans it for a bit before leaving it to smoulder, moving back to Joel, who’s put the mutton aside and has cut up the tomatoes, onions, and oregano, rubbing them into the mutton with olive oil.
“You a fan of olives, Joel?” Etho had asked as Joel was extracting the oil.
“Didn’t use to be, actually. But one day I suddenly decided I loved them. Dunno why.”
Etho rejoins him just as he’s started on the potatoes, and Joel hands him an extra knife.
“Did you put incisions in the shoulder?”
“Do we need to?”
“It’ll help it cook through.”
Joel glances at the mutton mid-potato. “Oh. Okay, thanks.” He casts Etho a curious look. “How come you know so much about cooking?”
“Y’know, I’m used to surviving on my own. Why, you surprised?”
“I just thought of you more as the, I dunno, the stoic fighting guy. I never would’ve imagined you to be like, a home cook, in an apron.”
“I have many sides to me, Joel.” Etho gives a playful wink, and Joel laughs.
“I can see that.”
Etho picks up a potato, noticing their slightly grubby nature. “You’ve washed these, right?” he asks.
“No? We’re going to peel them anyway.”
Etho’s eyes widen. “Don’t peel it.”
Joel halts again, looking like he’s been stabbed. His eyes widen as large as plates. “What?”
“I like it whole. You know, all the taste is in the skin. And it’s got a nice snap to it.”
“But there’s dirt on it!”
“Then wash it.”
Joel makes a series of sputtering noises. “Surely that’s not enough!”
“Sure it is! I eat it unpeeled all the time.”
“You’re sick, you sicken me,” Joel admonishes, looking away. Etho sighs.
“How about you peel half of them and leave the others alone. Compromise?”
Joel pouts, but says, “Okay, yeah, fine.”
“Great.” Etho gives a shit-eating grin as he gathers up half (read: most) of the potatoes, while Joel simply sticks his tongue out, too petty to notice. He resumes cutting into the mutton as Etho takes off his gloves and washes the potatoes. Then, they start on the final stretch.
Joel puts the potatoes, tomatoes, and carrots (“I don’t suppose you also eat those with the skin,” he had muttered to Etho, who only smiled and shook his head) in the pot, then places the mutton on top. He scatters in the onions and leftover garlic, then asks, “Is the oven ready?”
The firewood had crumbled into a pile of glowing ash at this point, but the heat had transferred over to the coal, emitting orange that throbbed under the dark surface. “Yep,” Etho replies as he walks over to it, self-satisfied.
Joel pours a bit of water in the cast iron, places the cover on it, then a sheet of leather on top, secured with string. Joel squints at it. “I think that’s right,” he says. “Or is it just supposed to be the leather…?”
“You probably need both on, otherwise the dirt’ll get in. Now c’mon, get it in here.”
“Alright, alright, don’t rush me!” Joel fixes Etho with a glare as he approaches the oven. He squints as the heat hits him, and sweat breaks out almost immediately on his skin. Slowly he lowers the pan into the pit, setting it on top of the coals. He steps back as Etho shovels the dirt on top and covers the whole thing until there’s just a mound left, which he pats.
“There we go, all done,” he says jovially.
“Until three hours from now when we have to dig it up.”
“Can’t wait.” Joel grins at Etho, who smiles back.
“Now help me clean up.”
Etho groans. “Do I have to?”
“This is a two-way relationship, Etho, you can’t expect me to do everything around here!”
“Aw, alright.”
– – –
"Do you remember where you learned this?" Etho asks as he puts up his mask and opens the pot. It’s dug up and now cooking in open air, roasting the mutton within.
Joel hums and shrugs; the muscle memory and smell had jogged a bit of recognition in him, though not enough for full memories. It makes sense; it usually takes much more than cooking mutton to remember other worlds. "A bit. I think this isn't the first time I've cooked it with someone else, at the very least."
"Really."
"Yeah. I think…" He concentrates, trying to translate the gut deja vu into actual memories. Joel furrows his brows. "I’m not… used to having this much help though, I think it was a kid?" Joel's expression turns bewildered. "Do I have a kid??"
Etho's eyes widen at him, then crinkle with amusement. "You, a dad? Shocking."
"Trust me, I'm as surprised as you are." Joel huffs.
Etho opens the lid a bit, and Joel catches a whiff of the mutton’s divine savoury scent. "You want to know a fun fact?" Etho says as he brushes the dirt away.
Joel raises a brow. "Please."
"I remember all past worlds."
Joel blinks. "You do?"
"Yeah. Every single one. Even before the first world."
"How?"
Etho shrugs. "Don't really know. My memory's not, uh, infallible, you know. Might have picked something up." He pauses. "Or maybe I've just been here too long. Who knows."
"That's very ominous."
Etho chuckles. “That’s just how it is.”
“Hm. Must be pretty lonely, if you remember but no one else does.”
“Eh, I’m pretty used to it. Like I said, been here a long time. Everything becomes routine eventually.”
“I…” Joel pauses. “Weirdly enough, I think I get that.”
“Really?”
“Y… yeah. Really.”
The edges of Etho’s eyes crinkle, as if he’s smiling, but instead of saying anything, he lifts the pot up and sets it on the ground. "Soup's up."
"It's roasted lamb."
"Eh, potayto, potahto."
"Now that's uncalled for."
Etho piles the contents of the pot onto wooden plates, and hands one to a starving Joel. On it, the lamb steams, browned and cut open to show a dark pink meat, juices pooling around it and seeping into the vegetables. Joel sets the plate on his lap, cuts a piece of the steak, and takes a bite.
It’s tender and chewy, umami flowing freely and plentiful. Joel hums at the comforting warmth, and if he were maybe more poetic, he’d say something about remembering sunny farms and glimmering quartz.
“Is it good?” Etho asks. His mask is removed.
“Yeah, it is.”
“Taste like your other world.”
“I think it does. Close enough, anyway.”
Etho smiles, and piles food onto his own plate. “Good, good.”
“Thanks for the help, man.”
“No problem.”
Joel moves to stab a vegetable, ready to decimate the whole thing when he stops, the smile on his face disappearing immediately. As watery as Joel’s mouth is, there’s a certain something on his plate that’s keeping him from devouring its contents right away.
“Etho?”
“Hm?” It sounds like he’s trying to keep from laughing.
“Take these dirty unpeeled potatoes away from me.”
Etho tilts his head. “Why? I thought you wanted some.”
“You bloody know I didn’t, I would never willingly consent to putting unpeeled potatoes on my plate. Take it away!”
“Aw, but you’ll miss out. Come on, just try one.”
“Absolutely not.”
“Pleeaaase? For me?” Etho chuckles- or giggles evilly, rather. “Your loyal soulmate who’s never done anything bad to you ever?”
“You’ve probably tried to kill me at some point.”
“Hey, we’re not counting past worlds we may or may not remember.”
Joel squints and pouts, and ignores how much he must look like a child. He grumbles something unintelligible before angrily stabbing the unpeeled, disgusting potato and biting down on it.
Snap.
Oh. That’s what Etho was talking about.
He chews slowly, while Etho watches, grinning.
“So, do you admit it?”
“...”
“C’mon Joel, you can say it, I can see it in your eyes.”
“Okay so maybe potatoes are fine with the skin, but-”
“You said it! I win!”
“What, no! You don’t win shit!!”

The benefits of Aleppo soap
The beneficial properties of this particular type of Syrian soap are different: first of all it has an antibacterial power, and is therefore suitable for those suffering from dermatological problems such as eczema, acne and psoriasis.
Also effective for simple blackheads on the face.
It is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and disinfectant, so it prevents and fights infections.
All this is due to the action of laurel oil, an emollient.
It helps wound healing, thanks to its regenerative abilities that restore shine to the skin with vitamin C. It also stimulates the synthesis of collagen and elastin proteins.
Prevents premature skin aging and keeps you young thanks to its antioxidant properties.
This is possible thanks to the action of vitamins A and E.
Aleppo soap has no fragrances, it does not smell like rose, lavender or other flower soaps smell.
Laurel and olive are particularly odorless and thanks also to the treatment with sodium hydroxide, even when the soap is made as liquid Aleppo soap, it is suitable for those suffering from skin allergies.
Furthermore, it also has antioxidant properties.
It does not contain aggressive surfactants and its particular natural scent has a truly relaxing effect on our senses.
HOW TO USE ALEPPO SOAP: 3 TRICKS THAT IMPROVE EFFECTIVENESS
Aleppo soap on the skin
Lightly moisten the Aleppo soap in solid format and use its soft foam to massage the wet skin.
To obtain greater benefits, leave the foam to rest for 5 - 10 minutes and then rinse: a sufficiently long time that will give great satisfaction!
Aleppo soap for men's beards
Lightly moisten the Aleppo soap and rub it on your skin when you shave: it will make an excellent shaving foam!
And that's not all: you can also use it once you've shaved, before drying, leaving it to rest for 5 minutes.
You'll see how soft and perfectly hydrated your skin is!
Aleppo soap for hair
In addition to cleansing the scalp well, Aleppo soap helps prevent hair loss and reduce dandruff.
Also in this case the secret is to distribute the foam, massage the head well working on the roots of the hair and leave to rest for 5 minutes.
For an even brighter result, when you move on to the final rinse, dilute two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water, and let it rest for another couple of minutes.

translated a recipe for fried potato pirozhki for my friend, thought maybe you guys would like it too
ps its one of my favorite foods lol
recipe from https://1000.menu/cooking/15862-pirojki-s-kartoshkoi-na-drojjax
MAKES 10 SERVINGS (10 PIROZHKI)
FOR THE DOUGH:
Water (boiled) 0,3 liters (101 oz)
Dry yeast (or 50g(1,76oz) of fresh ones) 1 teaspoon / 5 g (0,17 oz)
Vegetable oil (+300g(10,5oz) for frying) 50 ml (1,7oz)
Sugar 10g (0,35 oz)
Salt 1 teaspoon (0,17 oz)
Wheat flour 390g (13,7oz)
FOR THE FILLING:
Vegetable oil 40 ml (1,35oz)
Salt To taste
Potato 250g (8,8oz)
Onion 50g (1,7 oz)
DIRECTIONS
1. Put the flour through a fine sieve to get some oxygen in (p.s. usually optional but its better to get rid of clumps either way). Wash the potatoes thoroughly and dry them. Take the skin off an onion, wash and dry it.
2. In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients. Part of all the flour (≈350g(12,3oz)), dry yeast, salt and sugar.
3. Make a hole in the flour. Pour half a cup(≈100ml(3,4oz)) of olive oil into the dry ingredients.
4. Add warm (≈40°C(≈104°F)) water into the flour. The water cannot be too hot* so as to not kill the yeast. Thanks to the warm water, the dough rises very quickly.
*-yeast dies at over 60°C(120°F)
5. Add the remaining flour in parts and mix the elastic dough. You might need a little less or more flour. The dough should not stick to your hands, but shouldn't be too tough either. Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rise for about 20-30 minutes while the potatoes for the filling boil. It's preferred to leave the dough next to the stove so the steam from the potatoes helps the dough rise.
6. While the dough is rising, start the filling. Skin the potatoes, wash them and boil them in salty water. Later, remove the water and make a mash. It's best to do it using a potato masher(?? this thing shaped kind of like a triangle with a circle with holes at the bottom).
7. Finely chop the (skinless) onion. Later fry it in some vegetable oil until golden brown.
8. Add the onions to the mashed potatoes and stir. The filling is done. (p.s. the place i go to also adds tiny chopped carrots, you would also need to skin and boil them and then chop into small pieces and add to the potatoes)
9. By this time the dough has risen well. We didnt touch it. Now we will press it down slightly* and begin forming the pirozhki/pies immediately. Press it with your hands, fold it for about 3-5 minutes.
*-likely referring to when people sometimes punch dough that has risen
10. The dough is very elastic and nice so we will not be using a rolling pin, instead doing everything with our hands slightly coated in vegetable oil. Place the bowl containing the oil next to you, dip your hands in it and take off equal bits of dough from the pile, creating the templates(?) for future pirozhki/pies.
11. Set the oil to heat up in a pan and begin making the first pirozhki. Form the dough into a flatbread shape, it doesnt have to be perfect or pretty, they'll rise later anyway which will cover up any imperfections. Put down the filling, there should be about half the amount of the dough. But you may put more according to your wishes. (ps lol)
12. Put together the sides of the dough in the shape of a pirozhok*. Immediately put it in the pan to cook, so that the seam faces the bottom of the pan. Do the same thing to the next pirozhok. You have to do everything quickly. If you wish, you can form all the pirozhki prior to frying.
*the shape in question
13. After taking them out*, set the pirozhki on a paper towel (p.s. or a rack if you have one) to absorb all the excess oil. Enjoy!
*-just fry them until both sides are you preferred level of crispy, since all the ingredients are already basically cooked. The average is around 5 minutes on each side but this can depend on the type of pan/stove you use. After heating the oil well, cook on the middle temperature setting. The 'doneness' can also depend on the thickness of the dough layer, as thicker dough can take longer to cook. Someone in the comments recommended frying it on each side and then putting a lid over the pan and letting them cook for 1 more minute. You can also check the doneness by poking the pirozhok with a toothpick, if it comes out with dough on it, it's not done yet.

To quickly note, I received this for free from Picky and YADAH in exchange for my honest review.
Tumblr media
The balm contains 100 ml (3.38 oz) and doesn’t have a noticeable fragrance, but it does contain many essential oils.
Tumblr media
The balm is pretty standard and doesn’t feel too heavy.
Tumblr media
It's pretty oily and does start to break down to a more liquid form pretty fast.
Tumblr media
It removes makeup very nicely and is non-stripping.
Tumblr media
It doesn’t leave any oil residue once rinsed off.
Recommended use is to place an appropriate amount on dry hands and face and gently massage into the skin. It’s easy to rinse off or remove with tissue paper. It’s recommended to follow up with a cleansing foam. This is specifically formulated for sensitive skin. After using, so there are many essential oils in the ingredients list so this product is not fragrance-free. The physical fragrance isn't very noticeable, however. The cleansing balm has a very easy texture to work with and despite having a fair amount of irritants, this is a very gentle product that is suitable to any skin type, even to sensitive skin as I didn't personally notice any irritation. The ingredients are all very helpful in the skin maintaining moisture without being stripping or leaving a film or residue behind. I found this worked really well to remove dirt and gunk from my pores as well, it's also been gentle around my recent nose piercing. It's great to use as a double cleanse, both steps really help you feel clean without leaving the skin tight. I'd recommend this to anyone with dry, sensitive skin with enlarged pores.
What I like: this balm is very gentle, non-irritating, non-stripping and doesn't leave any film or residue. It's effective at removing dirt and oil and makeup is really nice to help loosen extra dirt from the pores. What I don't like: while it didn't affect me, there are several essential oils in this which can be irritants.
Pros:
Non-stripping
Gentle
Breaks down makeup easily
Removes dirt and oil effectively
Sensitive skin friendly
Doesn't leave a film or residue
Cons:
Contains irritants
Would I buy this?
Yes
Rating: 8/10

10 Natural Dry Skin Remedies You Can DIY at Home
Tumblr media
Sometimes we don’t pay much attention to caring for our skin, even though it’s the largest organ in the body. Skin suffers from dryness due to winter weather, hot showers and vigorous scrubbing with a towel when we dry ourselves.
You don’t have to head out to buy expensive lotions and potions to rehydrate your skin – your kitchen may already contain all the ingredients you need. Natural remedies are also better for your skin, as they don’t contain all the extra chemicals that manufactured skin creams have in them.
Here are 10 simple and all-natural remedies for dry skin:
Tumblr media
1. Olive Oil Cleanser
Olive oil works as a natural cleanser and moisturizer.  All you need to do is rub the oil on your skin and drape a warm, damp cloth over your face until it cools. Wipe away any excess oil and you’re done. Olive oil is a good choice for a skin cleanser because it doesn’t strip away your skin’s natural oils.
Tumblr media
2. Rich Avocado Mask
The creamy richness of avocado works well to soothe dry skin. We suggest pureeing half an avocado and mixing it with a teaspoon of olive oil. If your skin is very dry, add a tablespoon of honey too. Apply the mask and leave on for 15 to 20 minutes. For an extra moisture boost, apply your regular moisturizer after you have removed the mask.
Tumblr media
3. Olive Oil and Sugar Scrub
This combination makes a great exfoliating scrub with moisturizing benefits. Mix half a cup of sugar with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. You can also add an essential oil, such as lavender, to give a soothing fragrance.
Rub the mixed ingredients into your skin, and then wash off. Apply a moisturizer to double up on the benefits of exfoliated skin.
Tumblr media
4. Oatmeal Bath Soak
Add a cup of oatmeal to a warm bath, and enjoy the benefits of rehydrated skin. The oat product has skin-soothing properties, and it also helps your skin to retain moisture from the water.
Tumblr media
5. Homemade Oatmeal Honey Mask
Oatmeal also makes a good mask or exfoliator. Mix 2 tablespoons of oats with a tablespoon of honey and a dash of water. Gently warm the mixture, then rub it onto your skin. It can be used as an exfoliator and washed off straight away, or you can leave it on for around 15 to 20 minutes as a hydrating mask.
Tumblr media
6. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil isn’t just useful in the kitchen – use it as a moisturizing cream at bedtime. Because it is solid at room temperature, it can be applied easily. If you have chapped hands and feet, apply the oil, then cover with thick socks or non-latex gloves.
Tumblr media
7. Add Oil to Your Bath
Natural oils such as olive, coconut, argan and avocado oil can be used as a bath soak to moisturize skin and protect the natural skin barrier, which is often stripped away by washing with drying soaps that remove the natural oils from the skin.
Add a few tablespoons of oil under running bath water. If you don’t fancy scrubbing the oil slick off the bath after you’ve finished, rub a small amount of oil to your skin after your bath instead.
Tumblr media
8. Milk Compresses
Milk has natural anti-inflammatory properties, and it contains lactic acid, which works as a mild, natural exfoliant. Apply milk compresses to your skin for 5 to 10 minutes at a time. It’s great for irritated, itchy skin too, but lactic acid can sting cracked skin, so use with caution. Apply milk by soaking a washcloth in a bowl of cold milk and then pressing it against your driest, itchiest spots for a few minutes.
Tumblr media
9. Fruit Enzyme Cleanser or Exfoliant
Fruit enzymes can really help your skin during cold weather. The alpha-hydroxy acids exfoliate the top layer of dull, dead skin cells on the face and body.
Use a pineapple, pumpkin or papaya fruit-enzyme face mask twice a week for bright skin.
Tumblr media
10. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera gel isn’t just for treating sunburn. It can help your skin during the winter months by reducing redness and irritation due to dryness.
Some people can develop allergic contact dermatitis from aloe, so do a patch test first before applying it to a big area of skin.

what’s your skin routine tell me everything
Omg thank u SO much for asking!!!!
I start with washing my face with a basic cleanser and a bucket of holy water! Holy water does an amazing job at keeping the unfathomable sins from aging the skin!
Next, I exfoliate with a sugar scrub I make myself! Here's my recipe:
1 cup of sugar (can be substituted with glass shards)
3/4 cup of an oil of your choosing (i usually use coconut or extra extra virgin olive oil. Can never get too holy!)
A few drops of peppermint essential oil (i love how it just fucking burns! ☺️)
Once I'm done with that, I use a toner to cleanse the oils from my skin! I like using straight ethanol on a cotton pad. If you have dry skin, you might not need this step.
Here is where you would use an acne treatment if you need it, but I'm perfect, actually, so I just don't get acne like you peasants do ☺️☀️✨
Then to moisturize, (I've definitely used this tip before), I use the blood of my enemies! It keeps the skin luminous and youthful! It can also be used to make a hair mask, if anyone wants my recipe for that. And an extra bonus, it puts a real pep in my step at the beginning of the day :)
If you follow all these steps twice a day and thrice on blood moons, you can be perfect! Just like me 🤗
Follow for more health and beauty tips!!!
