okay i deffo need to rewatch this movie because i feel like there are a lot of nuances i missed :') BUTTT UGH what a beautiful tale on love and humanity and kindness but also the ugliness of war. here is my essay that no one asked for AKSJDB

"they'll cry when they can't regain their humanity later" "no, they'll forget they ever cried" THIS ONE DIALOGUE waaaah :'))) so so telling about how some people are so immersed in their power, evil, that they forget their roots, their humanity to begin with

"i feel terrible like im trapped under a stone" "oh yes, a heart's heavy burden" this ONE STUCK WITH ME TOO because if it isn't so true :') sometimes a heart feels like tons of bricks pressed against your chest, but it is that same heart that infuses you with happiness and love. reminds me of my favorite lyrics "how rare and beautiful it is to even exist"

i love how kindness is an invisible string tying all these characters together, turnip staying with sophie because she was kind to him and didn't dismantle his cane, the witch of the waste giving up howl's heart because she was finally hugged, calcifer lightning up his fire each time Sophie compliments him ☹️ to be kind and to receive kindness back :')

i loved how there wasn't this huge fuss over sophie's spell breaking, it felt as if it happened by itself as she grew more confident. idk if this theory is correct but i feel as if the spell wasn't exterior, but rather relating to how she felt about herself. when sophie was asleep she turned to her true self because she couldn't harbor bad opinions about herself during her sleep. turning young when howl showed her his childhood house and only becoming old again when she said that she isn't beautiful.. once she grew confident about herself, helping save howl and their family, the curse just lifted :') my baby sophie

(love the fact that her hair stayed grey at the end, a tangible proof that she was changed for the better by this entire experience :'))

also how love changed howl, who went from hiding to having smtg worth fighting for because someone finally believed in him, beyond going after his physical appearance :'))))))

mmm what else...... OH the whole WAIT FOR ME IN THE FUTURE AND THEM MEETING AGAIN oh im a sucker for these tropes I love love love love it. ☹️☹️☹️☹️

i think beyond the love story, the movie also shows how ugly war is, how avoidable it with the queen basically starting it for fun and acknowledging that it is pointless, how the lives of civilians are discarded by ones in power. when Sophie asked Howl if those missiles were theirs or the enemy's and he said does it matter, he's so right because does it, really? if the end goal is to kill innocents to gain more power, everyone is evil.

honorable mention to the beautiful cinematography and the SOUND TRACK MY GOD especially the final song ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️ kind of mad at myself for taking so long to watch it but waaaah so worth it I DEFFO NEED TO REWATCH IT AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN

I'm gonna be honest, final timeskip kisaki is fine. He's finally decent, he always looked put together, he's smart, he is a billionaireeeee. Will he treat his partener right? I think so, I mean he would be mad loyal. Would he be obsessed? Yeah, but idgaf. He will be obsessed with me and give me all I want and not even look twice at another person.

Now, present timeline kisaki is questionable just cause he has that : If I can't have you no one can mindset. But eh.

He's the type to groom his hair and nails, put on expensive perfumes and just look good in general. His glass frame is probably even designer. Kisaki is a HIGH CLASS DANDY MAN. That man has taste and class, I can ignore his obssessive nature as long as he is not scruffy.

(I've already talked about Hanma and Shion and their only advantage being showerable. I digress)

final thoughts:this was a gift from god, truly. this is easily one of my favoritest fics ive ever read to this date. akutagawa's persistent villanizing of atsushi and dazai is perfect, and his anger is just so hdhejhskajsjfjfjfshdndjfjdbd i cant even. i love this so much and i have no words <3

I'm so so glad you like the first paragraph because starting paragraphs are one of the hardest things to write and usually turn out to be not the best :'). I had a sketch of Rashoumon in an apron somewhere but I can't find it *sobs*. I never actually came up with any of their fake names because I was lazy, but Tachihara's fake name is basically the equivalent of "the peepee poopoo man" or something similar. unfortunately I don't think I did Katai justice in this fic because I wrote this before I read Brilliant Days, but I guess he can have some dumb jokes as a treat. also autistic Akutagawa so true

Quiet Time 2/26

What am I feeling today?

Tired and worried. I wish I could’ve gotten more sleep and this week is midterms. I already finished my midterm paper that’s due today but I also have an exam that worries me. Also, I’ve been asked to disciple someone today and I’m not really sure how to do that since I’ve never done it before and I’m worried I’ll end up doing the wrong thing.☹️

Sermon Notes: “The Lord Declares War!” (part 1/3)

Continuing in the series on Exodus, reminder:

Exodus 1-15 (God delivers His people)

16-34 (providers for His people)

35-40 (dwells with His people)

Note on dwelling with his people, when we’re a true baptized disciple, we receive the Holy Spirit. However there are some people who say that they are spiritual people or they practice spirituality. We should remember that anything that's not the Holy Spirit is evil.

Isaiah 55:6-11 NIV

“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

A lot to unpack here. One, seek the Lord while you still have the chance. We are not guaranteed tomorrow and we will never be in the same place of our life again. Seek and call to Him while He’s still near!

Second, if you look closely, the water cycle is mentioned in here. The rain and the snow come down and do not return until they’ve watered the earth. Think about how incredible it is that that small detail is in a book from so long ago, how could Isaiah have known without the influence of God!

Third, God uses that to reference His word. That it will not return to Him empty handed and it will accomplish that goal He had already set out for it.

Also, reminder of the quote: “WHEN A PERSON CAN'T FIND A DEEP SENSE OF MEANING, THEY DISTRACT THEMSELVES WITH PLEASURE."

Exodus 5:1-3 NIV

"This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says” reminder that the Bible is the word of God, this is what He says! Some people will arque against the word/God when you show them the Bible but remind them and yourself that it is not a you problem, but instead they have an issue with God.

Also there’s a warning at the end here that the Lord May strike “us” with plagues or sword.

Lastly, if Pharaoh obeyed, then he’d be acknowledging a deity greater than him since in Egypt they believed the Pharaoh to be a sort of god.

Luke 14:31-33 NIV

““Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.”

Great scripture when counting the cost. You have to evaluate whether you’re really up for the challenge of being a disciple. Also, in this story, there's no way we can win (for we’re the king with the 10,000) so what's the point of fighting with Him (God has the 20,000). When you fight with God, it’s just pride and stubbornness, thinking that your way is greater than His.

What are areas in your life where you are fighting w/ God? wrestle this out w/God through prayer for the sake of your soul to get right with Him!

Of course you didn't, how foolish of them to believe otherwise. There's no way you said what thes thought you did and you said it in your sleep anyway. But still that doesn't make it hurt any less...

Chal inhales sharply through her nose. She's doesn't even breath as she looks at your sleeping face. A million thoughts race through her mind, but nothing makes sense. As soon as she registers what you said, her face softens, her shoulders sagging. The words were spoken with a clouded mind, so there can't be a meaning behind them. It was foolish of her to assume such. There's a forlorn, almost pained expression on her face as she watches you sleep. And that's all there is to it.

Clay is completely silent, his face unreadable. Just as he's about to open his mouth, he sees your closed eyes and sighs. That was a close one. There's no way he would've wanted to have this talk right now, but it still stings. He knew that he didn't deserve your love, but you saying those words aloud managed to bring back that tiny bit of hope he thought he'd killed years ago. But he shuts it away once again, hoping for your sake that you don't remember what you said yourself. There was a reason for his bitterness after all.

The smile Candy wore as she watched you talking in your sleep, slowly falters, her expression souring gradually. If only she hadn't heard these particular words. They are repeated in her head over and over again. She hits her skull to make them stop, but it's no use. Why, why did you have to do that? Everything was fine the way it was before, so why ruin it with feelings? But wait, you were sleeping, so maybe you didn't mean it, right? No, this doesn't make it better, quite the opposite actually. There's only one thing she can do from now on. Stay away.
