I watched the live action One Piece because of you and your excitement over it and I really loved it, so thank you! Wondering if you have suggestions of where to go next? Read the manga or watch the anime? It honestly seems a bit overwhelming, so not sure where to start.
That's awesome! I love inspiring people to try One Piece, it's a really fun ride! It's always great seeing new fans coming in to enjoy the series! 🤗
I wanted to be as informative and thorough as I could for anyone wondering about this, so this might be long, but I'll provide a summarized version to start then include the long version under a readmore if you want more info in order to decide. Sorry if it gets a bit rambling lol.
So the answer to the "anime or manga" question is not necessarily complicated, but it is a little more nuanced than some fans will lead you to believe (a lot of manga-only elitists have a hate boner for the anime to a degree that imo isn't warranted) . There are a few major factors.
Summarized version:
1) this one's obvious, but bears saying; if you prefer manga, go with the manga, if you prefer anime, go with the anime. If you like both, go with both, unless you only want to consume one. Some people tend to gravitate towards one over another, and that's fine.
2) if you're interested in consuming both, I recommend starting with the anime, then going to the manga after, to avoid tainting your experience with the anime by comparing it to the manga all the time. If you only want to consume one, stick to the manga, because it is the better version. If you're on the fence or haven't decided yet, start with the manga then decide if you want to also try the anime later.
3) if you want to consume the anime, then determine how much of the original experience you want to be retained. There's not many filler episodes, but they do exist, and there are watch lists that explain which episodes to skip if you don't want to watch them. Otherwise obviously the manga is the true original and is the best version of the story. The anime isn't terrible, I still enjoy it, but it does have its flaws compared to the manga. That said, it does also have some benefits you can't get from the manga such as the top notch voice acting (at least in Japanese) and incredible soundtrack. Also the animation in Wano has been sending One Piece fans to the emergency room with priapism lately so do with that what you will.
4) determine how much time you're willing to invest. The manga is going to be the fastest way to consume the series, but there is a fan edited version of the anime that speeds up the pacing to match the manga, and thus takes a lot less time to catch up on. You can also read the manga then look up your favourite scenes in the anime as a supplement without investing into watching the whole anime, either shorter or longer version. The only thing to keep in mind is don't ever skip any canon arcs, you WILL regret it later. Oda never forgets.
Where to watch/read:
If you want help finding a good place to read or watch the series, for free or otherwise, let me know and I can provide some links! I can also provide recommendations for which movies to watch and when if anyone is interested in those, or even just OP fanfic recs if there's a market for that lol.
Now, for:
The long version (oh god I'm so sorry this got so long I am incapable of talking about this topic succinctly):
1) what type of media do you prefer and have an easier time consuming? Comic or animation?
I have an anime only friend who struggles with reading comics for some reason (he can read books just fine, but he struggles with comics and he doesn't know why), but he loves the anime, and is even currently rewatching it so we can catch up on watching Wano together since that arc is ending soon and we like to wait and binge entire arcs instead of watching weekly. If you prefer one over another, then whichever that is, is fine fine to go with. If you don't have a preference, then your next factor is:
2) do you want to only consume one, or are you open to consuming both?
I read the manga and watch the anime. I get a slightly different experience from both, I prefer the art and pacing of the manga, but I love the voice acting and music of the anime, and some moments just hit harder for me in the anime. I haven't cried very often reading the manga, but I have cried quite a bit more watching the anime when seeing the same scenes, like full on sobbing at some points ngl. It's not that I think the moments are done better in the anime or that they're not just as sad, but I have an easier time crying when seeing something in motion with sound for some reason. I rarely ever cry when reading books or comics. It happens, but not as easily or as often. Also while the animation throughout most of the series is middling (not bad but not amazing) for most of the series, aside from major fights, the most recent arcs have seen a huge upgrade in regards to the animation, WCI to some extent but especially Wano. The animators have just been going HAM on the animation during Wano. Like, it's all but impossible to find good examples without spoilers because of just, how many spoilers there are at that point in the story, but I'll at least show Luffy being pretty lol:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That said, the anime isn't without its flaws, but I'll get to that in a bit.
If you do want to consume both, then personally I recommend watching the anime first. I find people who read the manga first are more prone to comparing everything in the anime to the manga and wanting things to fit 1:1, which I think puts the anime at a disadvantage and makes people a bit more hypercritical of it. But ultimately this is up to you. Maybe you don't know yet if you'll try both, in which case the manga is probably better because it's the version that, by its nature, is the best version, and will give you the original experience, and you can decide later whether you want to supplement that with the anime as well.
If you only want to consume 1, at least mainly, then the next factor is:
3) How much of the original experience do you want to stick to?
The One Piece anime doesn't have nearly as many filler arcs/episodes as other long running shounens have had in the past, and past Enies Lobby there's almost no filler arcs whatsoever, aside from the rare 2-5 episode arcs, usually ones that advertise the movies that came out not long after they aired. But there are some full filler arcs earlier in the anime, and the general consensus is that most are pretty meh. Not horrid, but nothing special, and many of them ended up accidentally contradicting canon when new information about the world or certain in-world systems came out later. There are watch guides for skipping these widely available, and most OP fans do recommend watching the G8 filler arc because it's viewed as the only one that is on par with, or at least close to, canon content. I enjoy it myself as well personally.
That said, one of my biggest gripes about the anime, especially after sabaody up until Wano, is how it takes Odas more mild level of sexualization in comparison and dials it up to 1000. At its worst it has taken scenes where a female character is introduced with a full body shot and a name/title card in the manga, and turned it into a scene where the camera zooms in on her boobs, thighs, waist, butt, and then slowly pans up her body starting from the feet, including boi-oing noises or weird many sound effects with each zoom in shot. It also increased the boobs sizes and decreased the waist sizes constantly, put a lot more effort and attention into boobs jiggles than was necessary, and at least one point they even blatantly zoomed in on Nami's boobs bouncing isolated on the screen while she was running for absolutely NO reason. Oda doesn't do this in the manga. He doesn't introduce women in bits and pieces focusing on their body parts in an oggling manner, he doesn't put their boobs front and centre unless it's maybe by accident because of necessary framing. Even when he has sexy shots of women, they're usually full body shots that also even manage to serve as establishing shots most of the time. I also often get the feeling that a lot of it is also him being aware of his target audience in Japan, which is teenage boys. You can see a lot of how his approach adjusted when he has a different audience in mind in the Live action, not only regarding stuff like diversity (which WAS present in the original, their real life equivalent ethnicities have been said to be diverse for a long time, but Oda himself, as much as I love him, only has one skin tone marker in his whole house apparently and he uses it for every single character in colourspreads and covers, including the characters that are supposed to be black, and the anime isn't much better on that front, so it's nice to really see the proof of the diversity visually in the live action in a way that doesn't come across as clearly in the anime or manga), but also in regards to adjusting shounen tropes to better fit a live action setting. You can see in a lot of his SBS answers that he takes his target audience and what he wanted to see as a young boy into account a lot even if he might otherwise explore different tropes or depictions or structures in a different medium or genre.
BUT the anime does have its flaws. I won't pretend that Oda doesn't draw his female characters sexier as the series goes on, and while he also does with the men (Zoro canonically has the biggest bust size on the crew according to Oda lmao) it's not to the same degree as the women. This is especially concentrated around Nami, possibly because Oda's wife is a Nami cosplayer and iirc he met her while she was cosplaying Nami. It's the most overt in certain later arcs, but not too present in earlier arcs up to, say, Sabaody. But, while he does draw the women sexier, he's not... Idk the right terminology to use but he doesn't employ an oggling pov towards the women very often. Not never, but compared to the manga you relatively rarely get much particular purposeful focus on body parts like boobs or ass, there's also never any panty shots (seriously, not a single one in the entire series). That's not so say that the series is always perfect in this sense, but rather that's to compare it to the anime. And while there are some things One Piece doesn't do perfectly sometimes, there are also a lot of things it definitely gets right about how the women are written as complex multifaceted people with conflicts and motivations just as deep and diverse and complicated as the men. They mostly just look extra seggsy sometimes, at least the main ones do. And YMMV, but personally I'm okay with some sexiness, so long as it doesn't compromise the characters story and personality and doesn't go overboard to the point of being softcore porn, which Oda doesn't do in the manga. And I also don't like how often criticism of sexiness turns into shaming any clothing that shows more skin. There's a difference between disliking fanservice and going full conservative prude.
Now from what I've seen this has gotten significantly better in Wano in the anime, probably because Oda himself purposefully played down even his own horniness during Wano because of the focus on traditional Japanese aesthetics and dress. Idk if it will get bad again after Wano, but a lot has changed regarding the way the anime is animated and directed since the last time it was bad, so hopefully not. But this can be a significant barrier to the anime for some people. If that's the case, then I definitely recommend the manga. It's the original, and in comparison it is practically chaste. It's not prevalent throughout the entire anime, it's mostly bad for the stretch from Fishman Island to the end of WCI, which consists of 3 big arcs and 2 smaller in-between arcs, but improves significantly in Wano, and isn't too bad in arcs before Fishman Island. Still more egregious than the manga, but not to the same degree. So it's possible you can tolerate it for that stretch since there are still lots of good moments in the anime in these arcs too. Though I'll note that there's quite a bit of censorship in the anime compared to the manga, Zeff eating his own leg for example, while included in the live action, was not included in the anime. Instead he lost it when it got caught in some ship debris while he was rescuing Sanji from drowning. Stuff like gore and blood are also tones down a lot. The live action honestly isn't any more gory than the manga is, even at the beginning. There's even less blood in the live action, the wound Zoro got from Mihawk was nastayyyy in the manga. Bro nearly got bisected fr.
Though I will say that I think one thing that helps make the more sexualized aspects of the series feel more balanced and a lot less center stage is that Luffy himself, the main character, is completely and totally 1000% gender blind. He's not blind to stuff like masculinity or femininity, but he's blind to whether masculinity or femininity is something that is only applicable to men or women. He likes plenty of manly things, there's a gag about him not wanting frills on his shirt because he doesn't think they're manly and he doesn't like that, but he doesn't think that it makes a man less of a man if he wears a frilly shirt, and he's not opposed to wearing other clothes that might be more feminine coded like his fuckin cute li'l dress thing in Egghead, or the literal dress he wears proudly for all of 3 seconds in Film Gold lmao. There are plenty of men in the series who wear frilly shirts. There are also men who wear makeup, wear pink, crossdress, etc. Luffy could not give less of a shit what men, or women, wear. He does not discriminate between women and men in how he treats them in any way shape or form, his awareness of gender expression is limited entirely in how he personally expresses *his* idea of *his* gender. If a woman pisses him off he'll beat them up just as easily as he will a dude. If a trans man says they identify as a man, he'll refer to them as a man, even if they have a more feminine appearance, and vice versa. He does not blink an eye at non-binary/genderfluid/queer characters, etc. That's one of my favourite things about his character, in part because I'm aroace and identify with him and his gender blindness a lot (among other things, he is an aroace icon for a reason lmao), but also because it's nice to have a 100% gender blind character as the main pov throughout the series.
Then there's the final factor, which is
4) How much time are you willing to spend?
The anime is undoubtedly the longer time investment. Which can be good or bad depending on your view. I know when I caught up sometime after episode 505, I was devastated at not having any more episodes to watch. I started out thinking "this will take me forever and I probably won't finish it", then shifted to "damn those 100 episodes went by fast, but that's okay, I still have 400 episodes left" to "200 episodes already? Well I'm not even halfway yet, that's fine" to "300... Oh God I'm already more than halfway" to "400!? Where are they all going?? Why aren't there more?!?" to "well I HAVE to read the manga now because I can't stand to wait for the episodes to come out weekly" then I banged out the rest of the series in the manga in a few days like I was a drug addict trying to hide my stash from the police by snorting it all at once. So to some, the length can be a blessing rather than a curse lmao. But if you are worried about length, the manga is a lot easier to go through without taking months and months to catch up, unless you take your time reading it. There is a fan edited version of the anime called One Pace, which takes out all the filler and adjusts the pacing to be closer to the manga, which might also be an option if you want to watch the anime but still want a less exhaustive itinerary to watch. They. Might even edit out a bunch of the excess sexual shots and editing in the anime though I haven't watched it myself to determine that. The main issue is that One Pace hasn't completed every single arc, but it is an option for watching the arcs it does have. I know Dressrosa is one of the longest arcs and might benefit from some trimming. I also recommend, if you choose the anime, to watch episodes in batches rather than weekly. While the pacing of the manga is quite a bit faster, so it lends itself to weekly updates better, the anime does suffer from being watched weekly. I've always binged arcs all together and I find that improves the experience a lot.
Aside from that, you can also always just read the manga then only look up and watch particular scenes you wanna see in the anime to get the experience with the voice acting and music and animation, without having to invest as much extra time into it. I may not be a dedicated anime hater, but I do agree that the manga is undoubtedly superior to it as a whole, so while I don't think there's anything wrong with being anime only, if you are open to both, but only want to choose one to consume, it's the manga all the way. You only have to start at chapter 1 and go from there. Or episode 1 for the anime.
I hope this helped, and wasn't too confusing or overwhelming. I know how daunting the series can be to get into so I wanted to try and be comprehensive and objective, and provide some approachable options for people new to the series by explaining some pros and cons of each approach.

Did you make a sakamaki brothers as anime’s or am I tripping💀💀
Well, I know for sure I haven't, but I swear I saw another user do this type of post. But I can make one for you, anon.
headcanon: sakamaki brothers + yui as anime series
Tumblr media
SHUU
though I have seen ppl think of him as a calming slice of life anime, I beg to differ
I actually think he's more like xxxHOLIC (no this is not a perverted anime, I swear I tell ppl this one's great and they think I'm a pervert 💀)
Tumblr media
he'll also prob dig the soundtrack
something abt this screams silent horror and mystery
but if we take in his perverted side, Witchblade could actually work
Tumblr media
it's a great anime, but there are big melons and thighs
REIJI
old guy
hmm it's hard to come up with an anime for him cause I bet he doesn't watch one
but since he's so smart, let's just settle for Detective Conan
Tumblr media
I was thinking Fullmetal Alchemist but he def wouldn't like the magic side
Rei is prob a guy who tries to solve the case throughout the whole episode lol
and then he finds out his answer was wrong
AYATO
we all know what this guy wants
I swear Naruto is the only anime I could think of with him
another would be My Hero Academia
he just likes Bakugou that's all
but on a serious note, I think he would be Slam Dunk
Tumblr media
ya know redhead, quite foolish, but knows basketball
thinks he's Rukawa but he's def Sakuragi I swear
pls don't underestimate Sakuragi you guys
KANATO
I see some ppl think Kanato is just like your typical anime with horror genre (e.g. Higurashi, Another, Mirai Nikki)
I beg to differ
he's like those anime series with beautiful aesthetics with a horror hidden underneath and this horror or dark secret is not easily noticeable
cause that's how he's like
Paradise Kiss is def the anime for him
Tumblr media
YES THERE'S DARK SHT IN THIS ANIME I'VE READ THE MANGA COUNTLESS TIMES GO FIGURE
LAITO
fun fact: There is actually a mini hentai series that reminds me of Laito 👀
and no, it's not School Days (pls I can't still get over the fact that Makoto and Laito share the same VA)
but School Days is like Laito in an AU where he finally got killed lol
anywaaaaaaaaaaays
yes, that hentai series got dark (especially towards the ending of episode 2)
but kidding aside, an anime that would fit Laito is def Code Geass
Tumblr media
like it's all about manipulation, power, greed, and politics
but there are also scenes where you see big melons and thicc thighs
YES I AM TALKING ABOUT THAT OFFICIAL ART OF LELOUCH TOUCHING CC'S YOU KNOW WHAT
SUBARU
This one is a sad romance anime
I want to tell you I'm joking but I am not
idk but there's just something abt Subaru always being sad and whatnot
an emo guy
while there are so many anime series out there that scream "sad romance" (eg. Your Lie in April, Clannad, Plastic Memories, I Want To Eat Your Pancreas)
the only anime that reminded me of him would be Bokura Ga Ita
Tumblr media
you prob think the series is not sad
just freaking wait until you read the manga and ball your eyes out in frustration over the emo protagonist who doesn't have his priorities straight
YUI
ahh my lovely cupcake
while I think Ouran is Yui's cup of tea, another anime that comes to mind would be Tsubasa Chronicles
Tumblr media
like there's fantasy, romance, and mystery all wrapped in one
plus Mokona is cute
I bet she cried at that episode where Sakura got her feather back but she can't remember Syaoran
hmm I bet Yui wouldn't know how freaking everything gets darker in the manga

I'm on episode 5 of Pandora Hearts and I hope i will find time to finish it soon BUT IT'S PROMISING ALREADY. I WILL UPDATE U WHEN I'M DONE! I already love the two twink boytoys..Break reminds me so much of Undertaker. You just know whenever Kalafina participated in a soundtrack it's gonna be a bomb anime...Especially for the magic fight scenes. Amazing really. I hate the fucked up Doll chains alot. I really do gotta watch your other anime recs soon too, I really can't wait to watch more of Pandora Hearts!
I’m assuming you mean Break and Gil. Gil is definitely gay but I don’t really ship him with anyone cause well weird age stuff. But I can say that about most of the characters lol. Elliot and Leo are definitely gay and in love tho but I don’t think they show up until around episode 16. The soundtrack is so good. I love Crush and Cradle. And any variation of the Lacie melody. The opening song is also a certified banger though 👍 The last 3 episodes of the anime are filler and don’t make a lot of sense but if you’re interested in the manga the anime ends in the middle of chapter 32. If you don’t read manga that’s okay but the anime leaves a lot of unanswered questions and only adapts up to volume 8. You can also look up spoilers online or I can infodump to you if you don’t read the manga but still want to know what happens lol. It gets pretty intense for something that starts as a monster of the week series.

Top 5 anime not including BNHA. And if 5 is too little, then top 10 lol
Thanks for the ask Neon! Bending the rules and going with my top 6!
❖ Demon Slayer, is my number 1 anime for the animation and music. The way the techniques are animated leaves me on the edge of my seat every time even if I have to wear blackout shades for flashing scenes. But the music OMFG. There is only one person I truly Simp for, and that is soundtrack composer Yuki Kajiura. She is my Hans Zimmer, and has had my soul since .Hack//Sign OST, she's also done Mai-Hime and Madoka Magica. When I heard the Akaza theme I flipped my shit because I instantly recognized her work, and I can't wait to hear what she does with the rest of the series. If you haven't watched yet Do It- the art will surprise you. Not even gonna get into my thirst for Tengen and Rengoku.
❖ Blue Exorcist. Such a great show over all! Shiemi was so important to me growing up as chubby traditional girl. Seeing her and Rin overcome their challenges, really pushed me to be more myself.
❖ The Cat Returns Movie. I was weak for Cary Elwes' Westley in Princess Bride, and I love his dapper cat character in this. Kiki's Delivery Service is a close second- but this is my favorite Ghibli movie. ❖ Apothecary Diaries. Newly added to the list! Wasn't what I expected but I love this little cat-coded detective with a love for poison. Much more adult than I thought but if you're ok with darker content elements, you should give it a try! Also Jinshi's english voice actor is also Gojo. ❖ Kaleido Star. This was my absolute favorite anime as a kid. When I was young, I thought my flexibility was a great thing and was convinced I was going to join Cirque du Soleil when I got older (spoiler alert, it was Ehlers-Danlos). It hasn't stood up to the test of time as well as other anime. But I believe that with updated animation- this would do amazing as a reboot in the Sports Anime category. There's this one scene where the main character's lit by the rising sun as her costume transforms and it still takes my breath away. (AMV that has the best quality shot of the scene at 2:34) ❖ A Vision of Escaflowne. One of my favorites, I'm sure I have nostalgia goggles on (the actual series, not the Fox Kids slice n dice), but I feel this one would do *So Well* as a reboot with updated animation and va. An Isekai with everything: ancient tech robots, secret royalty, hybrids, dragons, alternate worlds, steampunk. I would be lying if my fantasy/barbarian Bakugo were not heavily influenced by Van's opening fight scene in the movie. This AMV does a pretty good job of summarizing the series! Chapter 290.
There is so much I love about that chapter. Every opportunity I get to talk about it, I take. I seriously cannot put it into words (but I’ll try)
The whole Dabi reveal was so amazing! And how we got to see Dabi’s true personality and not his cold uncaring facade we’ve seen up until that point! The art? The look of pure HORROR on Enji and Shouto? “The past never dies!”! THE ART!! “Come dance with your son in hell!!”shdjdnfbjdsk
I ramble here so, I’m sorry:
Metty, I think so much about MHA is great. The character dynamics and how they bounce off of each other is really good. The music from the anime! Tiki Hayashi is from another WORLD! The fact that there is such a big cast and everyone doesn’t have the same connections makes the world seem bigger.
Like, you have Midoriya who’s friends with Bakugou, Iida, Ochako, Todoroki, Tsuyu, Shinso but they don’t revolve around him. Bakugou has his own group, Ochako is really close with Tsuyu and the other 1A girls, Iida is super connected with his brother, Todoroki and Bakugou have friends from Shiketsu and their families. The whole Todoroki family, how Natsuo has a girlfriend, Fuyumi is a teacher, Endeavor has his coworkers, the Hero Commission, and from the hero commission, you have Hawks, Lady Nagant, Mera (💕) and etc. Don’t get me started on the LOV and how they parallel to 1A and how they show that even the “bad guys” need help too. How they are just as much human as everyone else.
The fact that these characters have different relationships with more than one character allows people to build off of them and explore different scenarios. I love the little tidbits about characters too. What they like, how tall they are, birthdays, how they seem to have their own styles, it’s just so aaah.
BNHA is also a way for people to connect. Especially with characters. I became really close with my (ex?) best friend over Bakugou and his development. How we used to share headcanons, theories, art, etc. It brings out peoples talents and that can create even more connections. There’s a reason the series is so popular. BNHA is a good feel good series and when it hits, it really hits.
There are negative aspects/downsides but I think you just have to love MHA for making such a big expansive world.
YES! Dabi's Dance was just so fucking immaculate and amazing, like this big burst of energy. Ngl I'm still living off the high of that chapter
THE ART AND THE REVEAL AND THE EXPRESSIONS! It was just soooo *chefs kiss x100* amazing
I love the character dynamics too! And Yuki Hayashi MAKES the anime imo, like there's the story and everything, but no matter how many times I hear it, his soundtracks get me so hyped! Yuki really brings his 100% to the soundtrack fr. He's one of the reasons I'm so looking forward to the rest of the anime. Can you imagine it? War Arc, Hawks' betrayal, Dabi's Dance, chapter 305 and 306, the Rogue Arc plus everything else?? Can you IMAGINE the music during the S&S battle??
I remember that, in Two Heroes (1st movie), when young All Might was introduced to us in that first battle, the music kind of had a western vibe to it, and like. All I can imagine is S&S having either touches of that soundtrack in hers or having the same western vibe. Perhaps even more intense - the intense western vibe to young All Might's carefree western vibe in his ost
And I'd totally love to see if TomurAFO's ost is a mix of Tomura's from MVA and AFO's creepy ost. That'd be so cool to listen too
I mean, all I can do is speculate lol. I always get super excited about the music. I LOVE Yuki Hayashi's work and I can't wait to see what he does with the rest of the anime!!
And yep, you're right about that whole "doesn't have the same connections" thing. It's one of the reasons I go on about the characters having their own minds, personalities etc - they aren't connected to everyone, and not always the mc either, but they have their own lives and connections. Each character is just allowed to exist, and allowed to have their own relationships away from the plot!
(aaaaaaaaaaaa Brainrot. You put Mera with the hc... you mentioned him... with a heart!! Thank you thank you 💕)
YES with the League paralleling the kids, that whole togetherness and the thing about "grouping together for a cause and ending up finding family and connections at the same time", and even about not having the same connections, with Shouto and Dabi, Ocha and Toga and Izu and Shiggy. I love them all sm
And the humanity! Like, the Heroes are "supposed" to not cry or just be tough, but they are in fact also human! And I think you see that well in the Rogue Arc (you can see it throughout the series anyway, but it's brought to attention in this arc), with Izuku, Death Arms flashback about why he quit, All Might, Lady Nagant unable to handle the emotional stress of what she'd been told to do, and arguably, I would say even Endeavor finally relenting and giving the gps to the kids, making it out like he had it all under control or didn't need additional help, was an example of that too. And then of course, Ochako in UA yelling into the megaphone, Izuku being taken care of, all of that showing that actually, Heroes are human too! They have their jobs, their obligations, but they are also people who need help, who need to be saved themselves. As Ochako puts it "Who protects the Heroes who need protecting?"
And then you have the League, who are made out by the Heroes to be cold-hearted monsters who just do the things they do for fun. Like they are just emotionless opponents in a video game or something. But as we see throughout the series, that's totally not the case! The League are human! They have feelings and thoughts, their own mindsets just like any of the other characters, and the trauma they've been through has hit a breaking point within them where they can't just stand by and do nothing for themselves. They want to be heard, they want to be seen, and they want to be understood
I'd say we probably see that as early as... Overhaul arc? That's when I began to realize it anyway. Like, I knew they were human, but the fact that the story showed proof of it in gestures such as Tomura removing his hand mask and exacting revenge on Chisaki because of what he did to Magne, Twice literally saying "We're human!", Toga being so sad about Magne and sympathetic to Twice, and the rest having their own bickering and interactions, it just showed me that the story could actually cover this side of them. Like, show us even more of the human side the Heroes never talk about
I love the little facts about all the characters. It's fun to go through the character pages and read what Hori gives us about them! And the fashion styles always feel so fitting. For that reason, I feel like Hori has such a good handle on his characters, even with little stuff like that
You're so right about bnha's feel-good stuff! It really does hit so hard when the time is right
Of course the downsides exist, but I think you're right when you say that you just have to love bnha for it's expansive world. All these things and inclusions of humanity in BOTH sides, in mindsets and such too, just makes it worth the read imo

So, being the TWEWY fan I am, I kinda couldn't resist importing the super expensive and much-cooler-than-what-the-West-got limited edition for NTWEWY (https://store.jp.square-enix.com/item/SE_E2694.html), and I've actually had this kind of huge box just sitting in my room for ages, so as mentioned, I finally opened it today and took some photos of my spoils.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The bag, which contained a box with almost all the other goodies, looks pretty cool imo, and has the "funny game master saying", but I don't think I'll actually be able to use it. Not quite my style, I guess. Maybe one day I can come up with an excuse to use it anyway though, haha.
Tumblr media
At first, the box just has the game and the Mr. Mew plush, and the game is, of course, in Japanese. Obviously I already played it and beat it, opting for the English Switch version, so now I've got a copy for both systems and in both languages, haha.
Tumblr media
However, opening the box further reveals that there are multiple goodies! Here's a poorly lit photo above, lol. (I'm sorry, unboxing this took a while and I only had so much energy/effort to spare into taking good photos rn ^^; haha)
Tumblr media
This cassette-player like box contains a Rindo pin and a reaper pin (think that’s what it’s called) that... looks pretty cool, but unfortunately can't turn back time no matter how hard I squeeze it. Though I dunno, maybe I just don't know how to use it right. Don't think it came with instructions, but if it did, they were in Japanese and I didn't try to translate them XD
Tumblr media
This is the artbook, but with the cover taken off. That's right, it says "TWEWY"! Thought this was really interesting given that the Japanese name is, of course, quite different, but it seems like the English name has kinda caught on to an extent even in Japan, which I think is pretty neat.
Also, I did look at the inside, and it's classic artbook stuff, but well, it's NTWEWY, so I enjoyed it! Had some art I hadn't seen before too. (And some spoilers I guess, but hopefully collectors know it's better not to open such limited-edition-artbooks before beating the game, haha.)
Tumblr media
The game and Mr. Mew. Dunno if I'll actually ever play this version of the game, especially with the PS5 already being a thing, and uhh, honestly I'm not a plushie person, so Mr. Mew doesn't have much use either, but... that's ok, collecting stuff I don't use isn't so bad if it's for TWEWY, right? XP
Tumblr media
Lastly from the collector's edition, a mini soundtrack! Inside is a list of the songs, as well as a little booklet or such that has lyrics for the songs. only listened to a couple songs so far but between this and the full soundtrack I showed earlier, I think I'm set for NTWEWY's music, haha. Also, I lowkey still own a CD player that doubles as an alarm (not sure what it's called anymore), and I put this mini soundtrack in it, so now I might end up waking up to NTWEWY music sometimes. :P
But wait, there's more! Actually, I got something from the TWEWY Animation merch line that Square Enix also had on their Japanese store. So this is separate from the NTWEWY collector's edition, but I had it shipped in the same box, and so here it is!
Tumblr media
W-What are these? Acrylic stands! Each one was about about $15 or so, but when I realized they all form a mural or w/e when put together, I kind of couldn't help but get all of them...
Tumblr media
The lighting in my room at night is kinda poor and the photo doesn't look good with a flash imo, but I think y'all get the idea—the 5 of them complete a set, and I'm happy to have them as a way of remembering/appreciating TWEWY.
---
Overall I'd say I'm very happy with the collector's edition and acrylic stands, even if I do realize it's kind of a waste of money—felt like I needed to live it up for the sequel of one of my all-time favorite games, you know?
But at the end of the day/as I basically just said, these are kind of just ways to help remember and convey my passion for the series, and I think the most important thing is our own experiences with the games and how we feel about them. Merch is just a bonus, haha. And I mean, I think with this I should be good on TWEWY merch for a good, long while now, ;).

what did u think of dune pls tell me all ur thoughts
okay my mind is mostly on a loop of "that was so COOL" rn but here is a few, in no particular order (some spoilers ahead for anyone who hasn't seen it):
the soundtrack and general sound design was just really fucking impressive, that might've been my fave part about it
i didn't know it was supposed to be just the first part in a series so i was getting a bit confused towards the end when pretty much nothing had been wrapped up. but i figured it out lol and for an introduction it is very intriguing
rebecca ferguson was fantastic
the effects, the animation, the costuming, the cinematography..... art
and a specific shout out to that massive battle scene that happened like halfway through, with all the ships exploding and the city being destroyed, that was AMAZING and actually kinda reminded me of the fall of cintra in the witcher for some reason
oscar isaac: dilf
i really liked duncan, he was a good dude and him calling paul 'my boy' was really endearing to me
also!! i really liked the scene where they go to see the spice harvester, but the carrier malfunctions. it's the first look we get at the sand worms and just how fucking huge they are. it was awesome.
this movie made me think timothee chalamet was kinda good looking. i don't appreciate that.
the fremen warriors bursting out of the sand to kill people was super cool
i can't wait to see the next one
okay my brain is empty now thank u for asking

spoiler free thoughts on mugen train movie: it was great!! stunning animation, great new soundtrack, great voice performances (i watched subbed) paced the story really well. i went in with high expectations and wasn't let down! 10/10 can't wait for everyone to get the chance to watch it :D
spoilers (and more in depth) under the cut:
wanna say that i am being Incredibly nit-picky in some of this. the movie was truly amazing and i enjoyed every second of it. i'm just gonna graze through the manga chapters the movie covered to help myself remember / point out what i liked / disliked
the second demon rengoku killed on the train i didn’t really think was necessary? i think maybe they were just trying to fill up more time, have it make more sense why tanjiro & crew liked / thought rengoku was so cool (it did give rengoku a better chance to show off his power and skill to them for the first time)
the animation used to rengoku’s flames was GORGEOUS (of course) it looked so beautiful
the dream sequences were done so well!! honestly zenitsu’s dream was super cute and boss inosuke’s and his minions.. inosuke you are so important to me i hope he knows that. THANK GOD for shiny acorns!!! genuinely one of my fav parts in the manga it’s so cute and silly i love seeing inosuke being friends with nezuko
senjurou sounded Nothing like how i’ve been imagining his voice up to this point. i’ve always read his voice as very soft like a younger child since he’s so young and has a kinder nature, so i’m not gonna lie i was a little thrown off by that lol
tanjiro pulling himself into the water in his dream was so beautifully done honestly that was one of my fav scenes just bc it was so pretty
Tumblr media
i was pretty upset that the detail about rengoku's spiritual core being brittle was left out, i feel like that's such a Huge detail about his character (since we only get to know him for such a short amount of time) maybe it was mentioned in the film and im just forgetting
nezuko's flames burning around tanjiro during his dream looked So Beautiful i was truly just awed throughout the whole film by how beautiful the animation was
tanjiro’s youngest brother crying when he was trying to leave the dream crushed me honestly that got the water works going lol i know the big moment of that scene was nezuko but; someone in the theater gasped Really loud when nezuko showed up in tanjiro's dream and it added so much drama lol so thank u to that person for upping the emotion
Tumblr media
this whole part was the Real tear jerker of the movie^
Tumblr media
i wish this scene had more been More? idk i was really looking forward to how this scene would end up in the movie and it was really just tanjiro screaming and then showed blood on the snow. i know it was shown multiple times later during the fight with enmu but. was hoping for something more i guess! esp i think the first time showing it should've been a Big Deal idk
during this scene tho i Loved that there was like a piano version of kamado tanjiro no uta and also a piano / softer version of gurenge; idk which played during these scene but i heard and picked up on both and really loved that
on another soundtrack note: the clarinet (or maybe bass clarinet) that played for what im guessing was enmu's theme was sooo good congrats to any composer that can get me to enjoy the clarinet lol
tanjiro's dream subconsciousness was sooo beautiful and so were the little fire spirits that lived there i think it continued to perfectly capture tanjiro's kindheartedness
tanjiro's nightmare was also so well done. i thought that was one of the best part of the movie tbh
actually my biggest complaint about the movie was how awkward and out of place the 3D / CGI looked compared to season 1 of the anime. the "guts" inside the train just looked really gross and poorly done
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[anime vs manga comparison] (also my friend said that enmu made him think of orochimaru LOL)
another thing was the train being covered with enmu's flesh or guts after their head was cut off just looked so gross and weird, i wish that hadn't been changed / added in the movie
and with the weird / gross looking 3D it made tanjiro and inosuke's fight together to find enmu's neck just a little rough to watch. i think it would've been better if there wasn't so much of enmu's flesh all over the train
Tumblr media
i wish this had been shown in the movie since it didn't make it into the story of the manga. the movie just showed nezuko burning inosuke and zenitsu with her fire (which is how she woke tanjiro up, so i guess it makes sense that it would work for those two as well)
after enmu was defeated i thought it was insane how clear of an image of kokushibo we got!!! we've only (barely) seen silhouettes of him up to this point in the anime, and since we also got such a clear picture of daki (with season 2 on the way) it makes me excited to think that we will see him in season 2 as well (along with the other upper moons; and hopefully get the whole series animated lol)
the fight against akaza was outstanding and amazing. truly have no words lol. unfortunately i missed a small part of the fight bc i had to go use the bathroom (my friend said i missed the coolest part of their fight) but akaza looked SO GOOD and the fight was so well animated and i Loved akaza's voice - not how i had been imaging his voice but it still fit him so well (wasn't such a major difference like with senjurou lol) and the music that played during their fight was great. the purposeful silence in some parts of their fight was perfectly placed to make it more tense and emotional (also rengoku blocking akaza's punches with his sword. king shit)
i really liked this detail, both with enmu and akaza, that their screams are apparently So Loud, i guess that's something you dont really pick up when you're reading
when rengoku's mother showed up and inosuke started crying that's what really did it in for me lol i tried to keep myself from crying too hard / loud in the theater but i know once i watch it alone im gonna be bawling
where the movie chose to end was really interesting to me. i thought for sure the movie was going to include tanjiro's visit to senjurou so im a little surprised that that's being held off until season 2. it really will make it mandatory for anime viewers to watch the movie before starting season 2
anyways if you read all of this ily and i am kissing you <3

October Favorites 2020!
Hello!
i'm going to start bringing these favorites of the month from my deviantart to here on tumblr. Hopefully you will find something good out of the things that I have been liking recently, please leave in the comments anything that you have been liking this month ( books, manga, anime, tv shows...etc) I have been a little uninspired for a while, but I'm still working on a few new digital art pieces as well as continuing my painting hobby, so there's a lot of content on the way!
okay so on to the things that I've been liking this month.
So if you've seen my latest digital art " who's baby is it?" I have been delving into web toons which I have not read other than mo dao zu shi since I watched the anime and It just suddenly stopped after season 2. I thought reading the web toon would answer some of those questions  i had. It lead me to reading a bunch of webtoons all in the shounen ai category for some reason...lol. and I've been really liking some of the stories, Until this point web toons never really interested me since I've been reading manga since I was younger , so i've been used to just seeing the black and white pages of art, since web toons have coloured pages, it makes me appreciate the effort they used to colour every panel, so a lot of work went into these so i appreciate it for what it is even if the story inst great.
let me preface by saying that even though i'm delving into BL, i've been exposed to yaoi ever since I was in high school by one of my best friends, she lent me her favorite anime which was " gravitation" and all remember was wanting a man that was like yuki...lol. don't we all?
since then I have been reading some yaoi manga...only ones that are NOT predicated on sexual violence and abuse, which I know is prevalent in this category, I just don't like it and the message it sends, so i avoid that all together.
unless of course it has a particular message it wants to convey, not glorifying it. if that makes sense.
okay so here are my recommendations, i'll give a very brief summary of each of them
Manga/Manhwa:
----------------------------------------------
Who's baby is it?
Tumblr media
- “a man named yi yun wanted to be an actor and is part of an acting company for several years and still was not successful, apparently it was because he was born with really bad luck, so to change his life perspective he decided that he wanted to be a surrogate father and donate his sperm to a surrogate mother in order to have a child that is his blood. So he and his child were living happily together through yi yuns work periods and suddenly there is a man that claims he is the child's actual blood related father and wanted to take the child into his custody.”
please read the summary I have in my fan art, I've wrote my thoughts on this manhwa.
To be or not to be
Tumblr media
-  “A company president diagnosed with cancer and died has been transmigrated into his favorite novel, where he was reborn as the antagonistic emperor that the main character defeats in the end, on top of which the main lead is currently the captive of said emperor, so in order to survive he will do anything to protect the protagonist and make sure he stays alive inside the novels universe.”
oh to be or not to be that is the question...lol. it really is. currently is is one of my favorites, I like how modern day people  can look at the acts of history and modify certain things so that it would less likey repeat itself for the worse, we need this sort of mentality at this moment...
Social temperature
Tumblr media
- “Song Yuan is indifferent when dealing with people he is an elite student at T- university as a science major, one day his friend started to question his sexuality and set him up with a month trial dating app as a joke, as soon as he went to delete the app on his phone, he was suddenly matched with a boy named "Mu", who turns out to be his classmate/ rival in his science program, his named is Xaio Mu , he is an exchange student abroad and got into this elite science program, hoping to meet new friends he approached song yuan and proceed to converse with him only to be ridiculed by him saying that he wears too much perfume and it made him sick so then he became the class social outcast. But after using the app to converse with "Mu"...song yuan became curious as to what he is actually like...using the fake name and bio of " Andrew " they start to get to know each other more.”
omg , this is triggering for me, since Mu is basically me a few years ago when I was also in a medical science program minus the talking on tinder thing lol, I felt as though everyone in that program was in it for themselves and I didn't not like the how people think they are entitled to everything...that's why i'm not in it no more.lol. there are a few plot holes in the story that I don't really get but other than that I really like this story I read the chapters that are out so far like 3 times cause I'm waiting for the rest to be translated. I also actually read the Novel by the same author of the manhua called " social outcast" so if you just want to read it in text format please read that novel instead, I like the novel up to a point and then it didn't really make sense after wards..lol.
so i can't say that i recommended it completely. Also Mu's character design I really like, thus i'm going to make a fan art of him soon...omg he's so beautiful, i'm in love lol.
Salad Days  ( tang liu zang)
Tumblr media
- “This is the story between a young innocent ballet boy and a passionate, determined boxing boy. The two met at the children’s palace, and since then, they have grown up together supporting each other. May there be hardships, may there be obstacles, yet they never stopped pursuing their dreams. The beauty of the salad days is the sweat from the hard work and the bonding of friendship. Although they have completely different paths set up for them, what never changes is their beautiful friendship.”
wow this story so far is really beautiful, I was in ballet for 3  years so it was slightly relatable to me, I feel like the over all message is that people sacrifice a lot for their dreams and if you are very passionate about it, there's no on that can really stop you, the only one that can stop you is you. I can't wait to see this story progress further
K-dramas:
------------------------------------------
it okay to not be okay - this probably has been mentioned as everyone's favorite, but rightfully so, I really like ko mun young's character as a person who seems like an assertive and powerful woman, but is suffering from a social disorder. and how moon gang tae has to not only deal with mental patients at his job but also his older brother being autistic, he himself is suffering from mental illness. this drama is  something not a lot of dramas portray in dealing with mental illness and how the patients/ loved ones  are feeling when watching them go through it all. I liked the story and the message  and it made me cry in every episode, so fair warning...have tissues beside you as you watch.
itaewon class- I was not going to watch this because of the mixed reviews but I did any ways, and it was really good, a really good depiction of how money and power isn't the end all be all , and being happy  is really the best revenge you can get, it also addresses racism and prejudice on one character and sexism on a trans-gendered woman. I also think this is a story that protrays something that really hasn't been exposed to in k-dramas specifically. It depends on your morals and what you understand so far in your life wether you would like this drama or not, so i understand the mixed reviews that it gets, but for me it was a really good story.
Anime/ TV shows:
---------------------------------------------
I don't have any anime recommendations this month mainly cause I have not been watching any, but there are some that i might watch soon  so I will list those below, let mew know if any of you have seen them and should I be watching them.
- Nobelese
-yasha hime ( inuyasha  new series)
-Haikyuu  new season
-heavens official blessing ( same author of mo dao zushi) - just started watching
-scum bag saving system- just started watching
Music :
----------------------------------
so I have just been listening to a lot of OSTs,
I really recommend the itaewon class soundtrack, all the songs are so good!
my favorite on is " crush- No words "
also my friend has been sending me NCT  and super M practice  videos so I've been listening to their music as well, please listen to make a wish by NCT U, it has been stuck in my head and I cant get it out...lol.
------------------------------
that's all for this October faves summary. please comment below if anything interested you for the month of October, I would also like to read your recommendations as well, please also take care of yourselves especially now with all that's escalating in the world.
take care!
sheena
