#canon fics are nice to write because they feel like an AU lmao

Just read a Yingxing/Blade x Reader fic in the CN platform 晋江 where the main plot centers around the comedy and a ambiguously happy ending for Ying Xing, who in the main plot manages to have a family and is very, very content with his lot in life despite the war against Abundance.

Author rn is writing a “what-if” branch of where Ying Xing became Blade, its an AU and some things are different from HSR because “you” existed, and Author makes it clear that we can see it as an AU and consider the Ying Xing main plot as a HE or as a story that snowballed into a tragedy for Ying Xing’s life. It’s, of course, an AU since there’s not much known yet about the past of the High Cloud Quintet.

And I’m wkdkksnJDKFKKDKDJE BECAUSE the first half with Ying Xing is so fluffy, so light, it’s very comedic too because Ying Xing is such a ROCK and so rude and obsessed with smithing, there’s a lot of people who had chased after him even tho he’s a short lived species but he’s so obsessed with weapons and so RUDE that they eventually back off lmao. It’s so bad that the “reader” gets over their initial miffed feelings pretty quickly and feels a bit sorry for their “rival”.

AND THEN AND THEN!!! Blade in the branch/AU/second part of the story is written so nicely, he’s passive and cold and ruthless, but in a more numb way and the tragedy of his family with “you” (which is still unknown since Author just began to write the Blade branch) seems to have shattered his mental state even further than canon. He gave me the feeling he was like a machine or an animal.

The Author describes Blade in a way that just hits all my Moe Points! The guy who will violently murder someone with an emotionless expression (no hard feelings, literally) but in the story, even with a muddled consciousness and a shattered sense of self and half amnesia - it’s very clear his personality was warped and shattered when compared to the Ying Xing in the first half - he still recognizes “you”, and has a vague recognition that you are an existence precious to him.

You are like a fragile dream of a past long gone. If he blinks even once, you will disappear like the foams in the ocean, and he feels like he will go even more mad if that happens.

He is clearly very obsessed but in a muddled, not quite there way. In the latest chapter instead of being overtaken by Mara and needing to get his memories erased by Kafka, he pinpoints you and basically kidnaps you while the Nameless fight against Phantilya and you wake up as they watch the fight. Phantilya’s petals fly all over the place and some of them shoot towards you and Blade, and though Blade grabs you and retreats, he wordlessly picks up an abandoned lance on the ground and throws it towards Phantilya. Very petty and vengeful, even tho Kafka mentions Elio never said they’d join the fight. ETC ETC ETC.

He speaks even less than canon, and ever since he saw “you”, he’s been wordlessly sticking to you like sticky rice, with the only time having been at the beginning where you arrived with Dan Heng and Blade went on to beat the living shit out of Dan Heng. He abandons his vendetta with Dan Heng and shoots towards you when he noticed one of those resuscitating mobs trying to grab your leg.

It’s just. My heart. One of the latest scene he’s written as just raising his arm and hovering it over the small of your back, staring at you with an unblinking, blank and hazy gaze, his actions treating you like glass, as if you were a very precious, very fragile dream that will disappear if he so much as touches you.

I LOVE THIS KIND OF CHARACTERIZATION FOR BLADE!!! Cold and tragic and ruthless, but has this very special soft spot for certain people.

Duuudeee I legit read your fic in like, two days ( I had to give in to sleep eventually) and it was so so good!! And I'm also glad to hear you like Iroh being with the Gaang! Even though he's the only adult there, I still try to make sure that he allows the kids to have agency - like he's not a strict parent to them, he's a nice comforting familial figure that everyone can go to for emotional support lol. Also being the only adult does not mean he's the most mature by any means. He's just a goofy old guy (who has also committed some war crimes) :)

Funnily enough, I actually didn't even consider shipping Zukaang until 2021 when I started thinking about all of their parallels and intertwined destinies one day, and I basically thought "huh, if they were closer in age this would literally be one of the most iconic ships of all time". So I decided to write my own version of the story where that is exactly the case lol. But even in general, I am kinda surprised it's not a more popular ship - like their age gap isn't a problem at all once they're both adults (4 years is literally the age gap of me and my husband at ages 26 and 30), and there's a lot of potential for exploration in settings like my AU where they're only a year or two apart.

A Problem Halved is a Problem Shared - im gonna be honest i dont fucking remember writing this one lol but it says dialogue-only and it WILL be angsty bc it is about zuko and sokka dealing with different issues they have

One Last Time (and its sequel The End of All Things) - Actually OLT is definitely one of my faves I ever wrote. It's my canon-compliant take on um... *cough* Sokka's death, referenced in Korra. It's SO angsty but it has one of the most visceral scenes I've ever written and I DID cry writing this. TEoAT is the happy ending Divorced Zukka deserved with bonus Iroh but you WILL cry reading that too. BUT i cant fucking recommend these ones enough!!!!

If I fade away (the awful things we do to make the head go quiet) - VERY dead dove. trans zuko needs to pay a MASSIVE price to get home to the Fire Nation after Ba Sing Se, and it's not his choice at all. I love this but READ WITH CAUTION

In Which Sokka is Supportive Ally Boyfriend Goals - I am dead serious i like dont remember this one at all but i know it has trans zuko!

Nourishing the Flame Within - not the best written tbhtbh BUT it does have two very important Zukos in it that I hold to be universally true: trans zuko and eating disorder zuko

Scars of Trust - bro im not gonna like i barely remember writing this one but i remember I LOVE IT and it's about sokka who has been dating zuko a while but he finally learns that zuko is trans? its great

Playing the Long Game - eh, i don't love it, but I'd say it's worth a read. it was my first longer fic in the fandom. it DOES have a great Zukki evolution though if you're into that, and a nice mystery!! Also some whump and angst bc of course

Keeping Score - I liked this one! It's just little snippets of times Sokka has survived assassination attempts, because we always hear about it happening to Zuko, but Sokka gets them too. Angst obviously

It Was Cruel and It Was Wrong - wow, a dead dove fic, yes. It's basically like "If I'm Joo Lee and you're Joo Lee, then who's flying the bison?" Yeah so Sokka and Zuko are both brainwashed by the Dai Lee and Suffering but be careful because this gets DARK

Mother - Izumi has two dads but she feels bad she doesn't have a mom. But guess what, her dads don't have moms either!! She's very happy to find that out! Wow Izumi, way to have some sympathy.

Impact - It's about Zuko taking a longer time to recover from an assassination attempt than he'd want, and Sokka being loving and patient with him! I wrote this when I had a bad concussion for like three weeks and so it's pretty like. Medically accurate lol

Scratchy - Short and sweet. I don't remember this one much but I know that it is fluffy and involves turtle ducks!

Hidden Pain, Shared Love - Another short and fluffy one. It's about the first time Zuko sees that Sokka has problems with his leg sometimes?

Zuko and Sokka Get Engaged in the Most Zukka Way Possible - okay i actually really love this one because it's on brand and cute and also i made it fucking angsty because oF COURSE

Zuko Amongst the Dragons - yes so what if zuko was raised by dragons and met the gaang but he was super feral? and what if shenanigans ensued? AND what if sokka and zuko fell in love anyway????

this is a platonic showmaker & chovy (& faker) runeterra au with proplayers as league of legends champions (kindred). i used a lot of league of legends canonical lore and then spun it with my own ideas :]

idk how tumblr works again but i realize I can do a lot more long form messages here so I will probably use this blog to put my thought process about writing fics? i will put that below, but it has spoilers so if u wanna check it out probably read the fic first !!

i chose this song to name it after this not only because the obvious kindred relation with "the eyes of the wolf / the mouth of the lamb" but also because of the other lyrics!

"for so long I have waited / so long that I almost became / just a stoic statue fit for nobody" is very much the grey man coded.

"the vicious cycle was over the moment you smiled at me" would talk about the creation of the kindred, and lamb and wolf. they are each others escape.

"i know i know the way that it goes / you get what you give / you reap what you sow" well... kindred. they give death, and... ok imma stfu.

"and just like the rain / you cast the dust into nothing / and wash out the salt from my hands / so touch me again /i feel my shadow dissolving / will you cleanse me with pleasure?" i think speaks to the relationship between lamb and wolf again.

"nobody can say for certain / if maybe it's all just a game / when I open my eyes to the future / I can hear you say my name" is what I perceive to be the kindred and the grey man's relationship. :>

in the end notes i vaguely touch on the idea of the "LCK Mid" which I think is one of thee most interesting dynamics in lolesports. I've been wanting to write plat fics for a while to sort of explore. in my eyes the holy trinity of the lck mid would be faker, chovy, and showmaker. man I love them. also my grammarly keeps autocorrecting showmaker to shoemaker and its so annoying lmao.

but anyway they r SO INTERESTING! in this fic i tried to include a lot of parallels, from how showmaker as lamb knows more than chovy as wolf—because chovy hasn't won anything internationally unlike showmaker has. chovy's more hungry, because he hasn't won a world championship yet. not to mention their relationship with faker—each having a diff specialization and aspect of their gameplay. showmaker has said many times about how he doesn't want to be the next faker so i made him despise the grey man here. with faker as the grey man i again use the whole "alone at the top" trope because... oh my god I'm a sucker for that. he's got everything, but everyone hates him, and he is lonely. plus my ending + the cyclic nature of the world/of the esports... faker will always be there. it will always come back to him. there will be other midlaners, but its always faker at the end, or so it seems.

anyway! i had a lot of fun writing this fic. it was very challenging and out of my comfort zone because it was platonic and abt people I haven't written about before, and because its a lot more... abstract? it relies on parallelism and reading between the lines. idk. my brain is dumb. i am also dumb. i just vomit words on a google doc and pray for the best.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Idk i used to like to emotionally beat up Jim a lot, so probably one of the short stories where i explore all his traumas

What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Probably Sorry, Lass. I originally wrote it in 2015 and i'm fairly certain it ends with a mushy marriage scene.

Do you get hate on fics? Surprisingly, no. I think i got a few rude comments back when i first started, but honestly everyone's been too kind to me.

Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope, never had anyone request that and don't want to do so incorrectly.

Have you ever cowritten a fic? Kind of? an old friend and i used to write separate chapters of our self insert marvel fics and mush them together into one story lol. never posted it anywhere, it was just shared emails and google docs.

What's your all time favorite ship? God, that's hard. probably McKirk. as i've gotten older and unlearned all the internal shame about self inserts it's gotten easier to do a self insert story instead of an established pair.

What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Every few weeks i pluck away at my regency au Miraak fic. i don't think i'll ever actually finish it because it's just so big in my head it's hard to get on paper, but i hope i do someday.

What are your writing strengths? I'm very comfortable writing sex scenes. I think that often when the author is uncomfortable about writing explicit sex the reader can really feel it in the story and i put in a lot of work to get over those mental hurdles. i've been told i'm good at characterization, which is awesome! i love getting in a character's head!

What are your writing weaknesses? Very often i find myself bogged down with the need to describe every little scene. it's a major reason i haven't posted a longfic in a while - i want to write these big stories but find myself getting lost in the little details. i also have a terrible habit of editing myself while i'm writing, which just gets me stuck in an unproductive loop.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Since i'm only fluent in English, this isn't something i am confident in. i've written in a few fictional languages for fics before but would probably reach out or suggest another author if a reader wanted something that heavily involved this.

First fandom you wrote for? Twilight babey!!! self insert oc to smooch Edward Cullen when i was a little middle schooler!!! i didn't know what fanfiction was but i knew i had a big ol crush on him.

Favorite fic you've written? not to be cringe on main, but most of my favorites are things that never got published. they're the little things still hanging out in my google docs that i go back to over and over. i rewrote all of star trek into darkness word for word just to make bones and jim kiss, i made a self insert just to smooch skurge after hyperfixating on thor ragnarok, and the weird time a few months ago where i wrote like 40k words of a cowboy romance. i read them often and wish that i'd written more on many of them but i do not read my published works.

My name is Marr! I use He/She/They and any pronouns. I’m Omni, Bigender, and Aspec. Playing around with some labels for now, but I feel pretty comfortable with these. I’m okay with any gendered terms, so just pick the one that looks the best in the sentence lmao.

I have ADHD and anxiety (both diagnosed) along with other things, but those are the ones I’ll probably talk about on here the most. I’m mixed White and Latina (plus Native) but (probably?) white passing. I speak English and want to learn Spanish, but I’m definitely not fluent.

Right now im really into Total Drama. It’s one of my longest lasting hyperfixations so far! I also post about a few other things, like House M.D and Dungeon Meshi. (More likely reblogging those things though.)

Specifically in Total Drama I mostly post about Alenoah and Priyemma. Recently been talking about the newest Reboot season (and my complaints with it). I talk the most about World Tour and TDI 2023 because it’s been a while since I’ve watched all the seasons and those are the ones I remember the best. I plan to rewatch them all… someday. I haven’t even finished watching reboot s2 because it’s painful!

I love shipping! I can’t even list them all because there’s so many tbh. I am very much a multi shipper and I constantly am finding new things to ship! I try to not engage in ship hate ever, but sometimes I slip up lol. I post some less-than-positive content about Nemma on occasion or Juliayne… everything that could be considered ship hate is tagged as such and never tagged with the ship that is being slandered.

I can’t really draw, so if I ever post my beginner drawings please be nice lol 😭 I’m still developing a style and learning. I have many, many WIPs that I might share here and there. I do really want to be able to draw confidently and make art for the things I love!

I stumble by a reddit post about OCs on JJK, and someone recommend your fic! I love every single chapter, especially the interlude, and also the fight scenes!

I have so many questions, but I know that you'll not entertain due to spoilers. Shiki's CT might still a secret, but like I imagine her CT like how Raiden Shogun obliterate La Signora into ashes.

I recently read your latest chapters, and my goodness, Geto's POV is really something. Yuzuki's POV really give us an insight on what the vassal family think about Shiki and Matsuhime's POV shows that she's really deluded that she could take Shiki down, not knowing how much it will impact on the Kamo Clan.

I'm also fascinated when reading your mini fics! Itadori meeting Shiki and thinking that she's Satoru's love child will always be funny! I kinda wonder on what Shiki feels when seeing her not-cousin being imprisoned, while most of the students have gathered around to Itadori who tells them that she's his cousin in the parallel world. Lmao, their reaction will be priceless.

Funny how you mention Raiden Shogun and La Signora as an example because I actually understand that reference! (I was introduced to Genshin around the Windblume event this year and finished the Inazuma storyline a while back)

It's fun writing other POVs, especially because the main story itself is narrated by Shiki, so it's always nice to play around with other perspectives on the various events going on. :D

Shiki-in-canon-verse would be another fun AU to write, but unfortunately it's also highly likely to be very spoiler-y haha.

In addition to Itadori running around screaming about 'Gojo-sensei's daughter,' there would probably also be other people mistaking Shiki for an alternate female version of Satoru once the 'from another world' tidbit becomes known.

YEAH! SO! I'm not sure if you're asking more generally about my starhab thoughts (of which i have so many) or about the AU specifically, but i'll answer a bit of both!

as long as i've been a Dick Guy TM i've thought there's some fun & interesting homoerotic nonsense going on btwn ahab & starbuck (though i didn’t get Super Into thinking abt them as much until my partner read mobydick and we both got super gay about it lol)

most notably from the symphony (the whole scene & the conversation they have there, really, but especially "Close! stand close to me, Starbuck; let me look into a human eye; it is better than to gaze into sea or sky; better than to gaze upon God. By the green land; by the bright hearth-stone! this is the magic glass, man; I see my wife and my child in thine eye. No, no; stay on board, on board!—lower not when I do; when branded Ahab gives chase to Moby Dick. That hazard shall not be thine. No, no! not with the far away home I see in that eye!" from Ahab and the response from Starbuck "Oh, my Captain! my Captain! noble soul! grand old heart, after all! why should any one give chase to that hated fish! Away with me! let us fly these deadly waters! let us home! Wife and child, too, are Starbuck’s—wife and child of his brotherly, sisterly, play-fellow youth; even as thine, sir, are the wife and child of thy loving, longing, paternal old age! Away! let us away!"). i have a longer post yelling about all the textual reasons i like them as a doomed/tragic/unfulfilled romance here

less romantic and more strictly narrative reasons aside, I think they're fascinating as foils and how they're both written to be suffering from the same violent & horrific system in very different ways, and how they both cope with it in different ways. i have also (predictably) yelled abt that here (which also goes a good amoutn into the setup/basic concept of the au! and talks more about my motivations for it) BUT the tl;dr of that post^ is i think melville writes both of them as very deeply Isolated people in different ways; some of the isolation is self inflicted, and some of it is a product of the system they're in. and specifically i find Really interesting how Whiteness TM is used as a tool of isolation for both of them

the 'Good AU TM' itself as i've been uncreatively calling it is a lot of me wanting to play with that isolation & whiteness as a system of forced isolation, and like. seeing what it would take to crack that! seeing what it would take to break ahab's singleminded myopic vengeance quest & also what it would take to break starbuck's white-xtian-motivated loneliness.

it's equal parts that, and equal parts just a good ol' fix-it-fic for the canon tragedy, because as much as i obviously adore tragedy, it's nice to have happy ending au's too <3

the basic concept of the AU is picking up from the end of the Symphony, which i read as the sort of last 'point of no return' of the tragedy (ahab reaches out one last time for help--admitting he doesn't want this, admitting he doesn't know why he's doing it / that he feels like he has no choice; and starbuck leaves him & gives up on it -- in an inversion of their relationship up until that point, where starbuck was usually the one begging ahab to stop and ahab the one denying him), and having starbuck and ahab actually like. Communicate TM! have more conversations! and have me pushing them so i can see when they finally break.

first of all, I haven't been reading a whole lot of fic lately and I am absolutely terrible at keeping track of what I read and how much I like it so take that into account, also it's hard for me to decide which one I like the most just in general so it's less of a top five and more of a rec list lmao. anyway, without further ado...

Man, I Feel Like A by Ontoxay (xaymak): Wild has gender stuff, there is more than one of this theme and I only just realized it. He's genderfluid and starts out presenting femininely so the rest of the chain assumes that he's a woman and he kinda goes with it until it becomes a bit of a problem.

Different by Janazza, WhyDidIWriteThisTrainwreck: Another one with Wild vs Gender, where she's kind of a woman who dressed as a man since a very young age to keep with the standard of being the hero and singlehandedly inspired me to write my own Fem!Wild au, marketed as a Mulan AU.

Sapphire Circlets; (solution) by Aquaticflames: last Wild vs Gender one I promise, this time featuring Gerudo Town and Time being a bit of an enby king.

Not Half Pawd by Song Mina: Legend and Twilight get stuck in their animal forms and Wild is there too, they go on a road trip to fix that. Legend gets the pats he deserves.

Level One by LightBlueScrubs: this one is a more recent addition that I really enjoyed, most of the chain is part of an emergency trauma center which is all fine and good until someone familiar gets sent in to be treated. (it's Wild) I really liked how informative this one was, you can tell that the author actually works in the medical industry and knows how things work. This one made me enjoy learning things and that's always nice. It's like found family but they're all co-workers and exhausted. It balances POVs extremely well and bounces from past to present a lot to show Wild's relationship to each of them and why it's so devastating when he gets injured and it shows each of their reactions to finding out and UGH it's so good. Modern AUs can kinda be hit or miss, I like a lot of Zelda stuff for the magic and fantastical elements but this one is so good at making the characters interesting without having to include destiny and all that.

Now to my own fics...

Of Dubious Sophistication: My own Wild meets the chain fic, which is ongoing, slowly... but it focuses on different parts of his past and personality that he is trying to hide and how the chain slowly learns about him outside of their first impression of him. There's also more going on behind the surface but that's not a surprise. Most chapters are focused on Wild and another one of the chain, giving them each time to shine and a moment to realize that Wild is not what they thought he was.

Another Second Chance: Wild goes back in time to the AoC timeline to help prevent Ganons return, but no one recognizes him and he decides that it might just be best if they never find out. (this one is old but it's getting a revival... believe me :)) There's a lot of focus on Wild and his family and also his connection to the champion's spirits and how he's a little more magical than he lets on.

Who Could Ever Leave (But Who Could Stay): Warning, this one is sad and I had a great time writing it. I love the fact that Wild is so far in the future for the others and that there's so much time between them and he's the last one. I love thinking about endings and death and mourning and having to confront his place in time. I love making him (and you) cry. I like to think it's in a cathartic way though, I feel like people kill the Links for shock value all the time but that's not the part that hurts the most in my opinion. But also I wanted there to be hope, because canonically, there's a bit of an afterlife, and even after ten thousand years, the heroes were remembered.

Heavy in Your Arms: Basic bitch Twi and Wild bonding fic featuring Wild's memories. Hurt/ comfort, a bit of self-projection in the way that I want what Twilight says to Wild to be said to me and that's the crux of this fic. Everyone (specifically me) needs a Twilight.

I've Seen Hell (But This is a Bit More My Style): the first fic in my previously mentioned fem!Wild AU! Focuses on her life pre-calamity and how she was treated due to her obvious distinction from fate. There's also a fic where she's with the chain and one where she gets to be gay with Zelda, I am writing more for her though, she's just so much fun.

it entirely depends on the fic lmao. like sometimes i rewrite then edit old fics, which i love because it's a quick job and i can see how much i'm changing and what's improving (which i did with "hours" last summer), but some fics (ie sugar baby au) are just. a fuckin headache. because it feels a bit clunkier and harder to get my head around which i like less

i really like all of pigeontoad's wesper fics! they've got about 3 on their pseud but they're all a nice mix of horny and sweet 😊

i think my fave wesper headcanon, which i write into a lot of post-canon fics, is that they try VERY HARD to take things slow after the auction, like VERY VERY HARD. and they try to do this in terms of physical stuff as well as like, sleeping in separate rooms and giving each other space and taking things slow and sensibly. and i also think they fail FUCKING miserably and end up joined at the hip and making out pretty much every night from the very first night every night (and i think this settles, eventually, and they start to grow as individuals on their own, but really fail at "taking it slow")

for anyone wondering what kompromat is, it's my beloved fic that i worked really hard on, here's the AO3 link & here's my accompanying playlist.

so essentially the idea came to me in a divine vision while i was spacing out walking my dog lmao. i was listening to i lied by lord huron & allison ponthier which isn't a one-to-one lyrically for this story, but the rhythm and melody injected "lawlight tragically dancing in a dark room" into my brain and i started kind of going into a trance from there. i haven't changed anything about the playlist but i would love to recover my mood board (i accidentally deleted it, tragically)

the line "i swore that i'd become a better man for you and i tried" just got me thinking, so i tried to kind of build a scene around the image of them dancing to this tune. like, where would they be dancing? a dark bar because i always want them in real life type situations. why is it so sad? because lawlight is inherently tragic but also, they are either about to part, or be reunited. while kompromat isn't explicitly a soulmate au i do think that the idea of a soul mate is pretty much a motif of DN. i like the idea of the red string of fate and i think it works here and in canon. also, with regard to memory loss and regretting losing your memories, i love eternal sunshine so much it's probably my favorite movie ever, and i hadn't made the connection until i started writing.

also i'm sure everyone who reads my fics has picked up on this but i'm really invested in everything being really real, so i spent a few hours looking at beautiful london hotels and nice bars. as a fellow new yorker i want to tell you specifically that the bar that is in my mind visually is the nines in noho even though the fic is set at the fumoir at the claridges hotel in london.

i was really, really intent on having kompromat be posted *on* new year's eve. i realize now that i probably hindered my engagement by doing that because most people probably don't sit on AO3 on nye (no judgment here obvi, just seems true to me). but there is always a melancholic feeling on nye to me no matter how much fun you're having. i don't know how to describe this specific melancholy other than the feeling of listening to the song "auld lang syne" and like, the idea of leaving your old life/year behind, for better or for worse, you know?

i just love the idea that in any timeline, in a million lifetimes, the boy best friends manage to find each other because there's nobody as awful as them, and nobody can love them the way they love each other ;_; in funnier terms, this tweet:

I'll just pick one from BG3 and it's probably this one so far.

V. The second fic in my Vanquish/Voss series and it meant I could really get my hands into the meat of their developing feelings, characters and this strange, initially, transactional relationship.

These two are from JJBA pt5 and I think they're some of my peak works (if you can get past the stupid names of jojos lmao). I wrote a lot for that fandom. Canon/canon diverge, AUs, rare pairs galore. Lots of unhealthy and abusive relationships. Anyway, these two are my fav.

oh, but what a terrifying view trying to leave your abuser is hard six rounds don't make a right a rekindled relationship between two lovers who tried to kill eachother, focused around russian roulette.

12. how does receiving or not receiving feedback/support impact you?

Unfortunately (or fortunately for receiving feedback/support) it can impact me a lot. I have BPD (v open about it. needs to be talked about more normally) so for things like this it can be very one end of the scale or other. I struggle a lot to find that nice middle ground of acceptance and moving on. But it's something I try desperately all the time to work on.

Getting feedback, support, comments, reblogs, kudos etc. is probably my biggest motivator full stop. All I want is for my words, my art, to reach people and move them. Linger with them. Create a memory.

I want my words to be my legacy.

60. Have you had a writer you admire comment on your fic? What was that like?

Yes, often! I'm usually in small ponds in fandoms writing for rarepairs, sometimes creating them/there at the beginning so it's so often that I get to know the writers for the ships I'm writing for very early on and we become fandom friends etc.

It always means the world when the writers I admire comment on my work. They take the time out of their day to read my stuff, say they liked it, often what they like about it, and I can get into their head about what about my writing they like. Sometimes it surprises me, sometimes I totally get it lol. I try to not be parasocial. I try to be more community focused, but when someone else you look up to says they love something you did, it's always a wonderful feeling.

Addition to the above - especially because many of the writers I really admire are close in style to me. Or a little experimental like me it really sparks the joy.
