Official news about Naruto's fandom... My opinions
I have to say, Naruto fandom in general will never cease to amaze me. Let's start from the beginning: remember that survey on the most loved couple in Japan as SS that we heard about with so much hype last time? Well, it turns out to be false (why am I not surprised?). There is no specific data on this poll nor is it known when and who voted; the SS simply published a screenshot of a post taken from a Japanese site but nothing else is known; there is no link or anything to access the site. Also, chatting on different forums and seeing how ships are currently rated it is highly unlikely that SS and NH are higher than KiriSuna or IchiHime, especially seeing how NH itself is received with most of the Japanese fandom complaining about Hinata as not a good mother or how there isn't enough chemistry between the two, so much so that the couple is defined as "boring". For SS the matter is a little different given that Sakura is an overly loved character, regardless of who her partner is or not but considering the disgust of the Japanese at the way she was treated after marrying Sasuke I honestly doubt it (of course, if this is a survey done only by young women who are excited by the handsome Uchiha and do not take history into account then we already have the answer to our questions). Among other things, I would like to remind everyone that to do a real survey requires a lot of time to collect data and everything, here we are talking about immediate responses from a random survey lasting a week perhaps? Remember, objectivity first and foremost. Secondly I have to say that it is always fun and ironic to see the constant wars between SS and NH even though they have both been canon for years now (like Sakura now Naruto and Hinata have also gotten their own post on the big screen in the big cities and now we have the war between who stole the idea from who and who is envious of who... right, because now these are the important news about Naruto. No the story, no the new video game with the main protagonist who eliminates himself, not a Franchise which, due to them and their closed mentalities, has been falling apart for years. No). Third, recently Boruto cards with different scenes have been made available and we have been asked to vote on the ones most requested by the fandom in general and as I suspected people are aiming for the real shonen sense with Sasuke and Naruto as the main requests and the return of the team 7 as adults (the story of Boruto and the canon couples are of no interest to anyone. People have always loved the dynamic of team 7 and it's a fact)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last but not least, it seems that a live action of Naruto is underway apparently. I expected it after OP's success but honestly it worries me a lot. Hollywood works differently than Japan. If a character doesn't like how he is represented in the original story, the producers and directors will make sure to totally change his behavior in order to acquire more money and audiences (based on what Western fans want they will act accordingly). There can be three hypotheses at this point and it is not certain that the history of Hollywood will follow the original one. For SS (in case they see that the couple is well received then they will try to focus on their strengths i.e. anguish and dramatic tension and will try to eliminate Sakura's fangirl behavior with Sasuke. Be careful though, the same thing could happen with Karin because if the character is more liked with Sasuke than Sakura then that couple will have the spotlight). For NH, well their dynamic is not that of a typical Western fandom relationship (I tell you this from experience as I myself am part of that fandom) therefore, if the purpose of the live is to emphasize the current couples then it is possible that they will eliminate the defects of Hinata and those parts of her that may seem boring in a relationship to the public and instead will focus on her merits. In all this we must also understand whether Kishimoto himself will be involved in this work or not because it may also be that these years have served him as a lesson and he has learned from his mistakes and therefore this time it will be more for the continuation of his original story and an obvious NS final given Sakura's now well-known popularity. Or, it could also be that the live broadcast will have as its objective the main ficus of the story and therefore SasuNaruSasu and the dynamics of team 7. Many factors come into play and we don't know for sure how things will go... I don't know what to think but for sure I can say with certainty that it will not be a live action that will remedy the damage suffered to the Naruto/Boruto Franchise. What's done is done and now we have to live with it by accentuating reality and thinking about what could have been and wasn't

👀👀 @ the potential analysis of jamie choosing to drink vanilla vodka
SO APPARENTLY THIS BEING A DEEP AND LAYERED CHARACTER DECISION REQUIRING AN EXPERT ON ALCOHOL (or at least someone who actually drinks, unlike me) IS NOT TRUE what happened is I told my partner that jamie was drinking vanilla vodka at the club with some of the guys and internally my partner went he’s drinking that at the football club, at the place he works? Fucked up! And then we actually watched the scene and they were like :// why did you lie to me, lmao
The short version is this is definitely my fault. The long version is apparently it super matters that keeley is there? To decode this from a masculine dominated setting? I did not realize that o’brien or goodman or whoever the fuck’s sitting in the corner also had a girl with him, I thought it was the boys + keeley.
So the canonical character implications is that roy is from a generation where masculinity means you drink the types of hard liquor with nothing to cover up the burn nor any fruity flavors because you’re a fucking man hurr durr, and he’s making a little dig at jamie’s masculinity but also at jamie’s immaturity for. You know. Doing nothing more than being twenty-three and picking a beverage at a club that is an expedient way to get drunk.
roy is masc and old and judgy, even though his reasons in this particular moment are understandable: he is specifically replying to yet another comment about how he's old.
Anyways, more under the cut for the probable canonical reasons jamie is drinking vanilla vodka in this specific scene and for the original draft of the meta when I thought vanilla vodka was just Jamie's favorite and go-to drink
jamie is drinking this because either 1) keeley actually likes it, or is at least nostalgic for the drink that she got drunk on from her early twenties, and so originally ordered it (you can see her drinking from a bottle with the same branding in the background) and jamie’s just shrugging and getting the same cause he wants to get drunk, or perhaps 2) as is my fun new headcanon, he was introduced to this drink by a previous girlfriend and liked it and despite what people expect from appearances and gender stereotypes, keeley is actually the one who wouldn’t usually drink this if it wasn’t for her partner, or 3) he’s just a fiend for vanilla flavoring on the level of naruto’s sasuke uchiha has a post fandom flanderization boner for tomatoes.
But yeah jamie drinking this is apparently a generic young party boy in a club with his girlfriend thing.
The original version of the meta went something like this:
First, a disclaimer. I don’t drink. Neither does my partner, but they used to. As much as we wish otherwise, neither of us can help but be American. America has a very specific drinking culture, mainly shaped by our weird alcohol laws. Our legal drinking age is very high and once you hit twenty-one, you gain legal access to every type of alcohol at once. We also don’t have the same pub culture, which I would also guess is partly due to the fact that our shit public infrastructure means most drinkers can’t get home as easily without drinking.
Meanwhile, Jamie would be growing up in England meaning at the very least, his first legal access to alcohol would come when he is in his mid or early teens and able to order his own beer in a pub. He would be experimenting with drinks with a low percentage of alcohol in a supervised environment.
Let’s try getting into it anyway, and if I’m an idiot I can find out later.
Vanilla vodka that’s commercially available is for the most part cheap and for the purposes of mixing into cocktails. Most flavored vodkas sold just anywhere run towards being cheap and shit with the purpose of the flavoring to hide alcohol that would otherwise probably taste like nail polish remover.
Someone is in a liquor store picking out this to drink straight needs to either really, really like vanilla flavoring or to be trying to get drunk cheaply without tasting alcohol only they have no idea what they’re doing. Otherwise, usually they would be more likely to pick things like a sour fruit or candy flavored vodka which have tastes that generally more people would find interesting enough to enjoy.
This interpretation made me very excited. It makes perfect sense with Jamie’s background he would view drunk as a fun destination with a shit journey best kept short as possible. I pictured a possible Jamie with a lot of baggage around drinking who could be mellow about it when definitely sober or definitely drunk but would get into his own head when in the awkward in between.
It would also make sense if Jamie had no real education in alcohol. Jamie’s most likely drinking experience came with his peers, who would also be young and not know shit, and his father. Tartt Sr. is, I imagine, shit for Jamie to be around when drunk, and does not have the personality where he would be a nice teacher for anything much less drinking. Less someone holding your hand as you explore your tastes and more a guy who pours you a shot and when you cough and tear up he laughs and calls you a pussy.
I could imagine Jamie pretending to being all about getting to hang out getting drunk with his dad and his mates the one time and then never doing it again and forming very bad associations with whatever they happened to drink that night. I headcanon James Tartt Sr. as being a whiskey drinker, and the kind of guy who saw the James/Jameson pun and immediately ran that joke into the dirt. Cheap whiskey drinking also falls under one of the three main flavors of longterm alcoholism but this is getting long so I will expand on that in another post
Jamie is clearly willing to throw his money around for things like fashion, which he knows he likes. So him drinking something cheap and probably not very tasty shows a discarding of the idea that alcohol could be tasty or a hobby improved with consideration.
In summary, Jamie drinking something cheap and awful reeemphasizes a lot of what we know about his background. It could mean that for all his party boy reputation, he views drinking as means to an end that isn’t enjoyable in it of itself. He has a background that meant he didn’t have access to anyone who serve as a teacher for the nuances of alcohol culture. Jamie begins the series at a point in his life where there’s much about his tastes and identity he hasn’t bothered investigating, until the instigation from people like Keeley, Ted, and Roy. All of this would be perfect characterization.
It also works as perfect characterization if Jamie drinks of vanilla vodka because he enjoys it. Jamie has other tastes that people judge, like his fashion choice to go without a shirt, and he does these things because he cares more about enjoying himself than he cares, or is even able to register, the judgment of others.
The other part of this discussion that held up were post maturation arc drinks for Jamie, but this is so goddang long I’m going to make that its own post.

okay but really sasuke had so much potential and i hate that kishi didn't actually use that, make him better. to me, the sasuke we got will never compare to what we could've gotten, should've gotten. he was mostly all talk, he let his ego get to him, he was too stuck in his head. and like if thats what his character was supposed to be that's one thing. but i don't think it was. at least, that's not the same character people love to praise. fanon sasuke is who people really love to praise but everyone pretends he was like that in canon when that's just not the truth. and again, part of me feels like kishi meant to take him in the direction that fans eventually did as well but he didn't. and i hate that so much.

Characterizing Uchiha Sasuke (no he's not mean and heartless)
Tumblr media
I saw someone say Sasuke was mean and heartless, now that person has a bias in the context they're talking about...but I won't get into that. I just want to ramble about how I see Sasuke, because it boggles my mind how anyone can come away from Naruto thinking this. It also is so weird to me when people characterize AU Sasukes where there was no massacre as some kind of jerk just for the sake of being a jerk. Because he's not like that at all? So when I write him these are the things I consider.
Pre-massacre Sasuke is sweet. He's bubbly. He admires his brother and father, wants their attention and love. He's very affectionate when he's comfortable, as we see with Itachi. He's open and expressive. He skips and jumps around, he's eager and sincere and hardworking. He smiles! And yes, some of these scenes might be anime-only but they flesh out what we do know of him before everything changed. There's no indications Sasuke was ever a mean kid or a bully (unlike some of his classmates I should say). He might even be kind of shy, mostly keeping to himself and his family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously this changes after the massacre, how could it not? And it's likely he'll never be the same again.
But parts of this side of him and who he was before can return, whether wholly or in a more subdued sense, with those he feels safe and comfortable with. And a non-massacre Sasuke I think would have grown up loving, kind and sweet. Because even canon Sasuke, as traumatized and wounded as he is, is a caring and selfless person. He saves his team mates without hesitation. He puts himself in harm's way for others even when he's barely standing himself. He throws away his own life for the sake of his clan and what he sees as his duty. He sees Naruto's pain and feels for him despite his own, and never gets angry with him or goes out of his way to hurt him as so many others did - he's actually kind of softer with him. He expresses very clearly that he cares about Naruto, calls him his most precious and intimate friend very bluntly. He loves animals??? He is one of the most emotion filled characters in the entire show and it's because he cares so much.
Tumblr media
Not returning someone's romantic feelings/attraction doesn't make him a bad guy. Being annoyed when people get physical with him without his consent doesn't make him a jerk. Not being a social butterfly after his whole family, extended family, and clan were murdered by the person he loved most doesn't make him rude. Being withdrawn because his mental health is understandably terrible does not mean he's a terrible person. Rightfully not wanting to continue to prop up a system or accommodate people in power who did something so heinous doesn't make him a villain or an asshole either.

Hiii, I just wanna say even as someone who sorta liked Sakura, your posts breaking down her character are spot-on and I agree with most of it.
At first I really didn’t want to hate Sakura for being annoying/useless because it felt like a petty reason, like I really hoped to see her personal growth. Especially in the beginning of shippuden when she showed promising development as a medic nin. I held out for her for so long, but she kept disappointing... I wanted to see her become strong of her own volition and have goals that didn’t revolve around Sasuke (and wanting to f@ck him). But it never happened.
I couldn’t stand the way she acted so pathetic with Sasuke in contrast with her usual confident demeanor with everyone else. Her obsession was such a hinderance to her character, and it’s not like SNS where they actually had a bond. It was total one-sided infatuation with the IDEA of Sasuke loving her. There were sooo many chances for her to reflect and change her feelings, but nope she stayed delusional until the end. I could no longer make excuses for her and gave up on her. SS in Boruto was the nail in the coffin. Their marriage is so pathetic I really feel bad for Sasuke 🤢🤢🤢
It’s why I like reading fanfic where Sakura gets over Sasuke and focuses on her own development. It’s a glimpse of what could have been… Too bad in canon she’s totally irredeemable lmao
Thank you so much for understanding, Anon. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩. Annoying or Useless is just the final nail in the coffin. Her attitude towards a human being is what bothered me, a lot.
If Naruto, the series, has taught me anything, I would say I learnt to see a sliver of positivity in someone and let go of my hatred even though the character has been an S-ranked bitch throughout the series.
Take Madara and Obito as examples.
Forget about their Infinite Tsukuyomi plan and all other crimes they committed for just a moment.
When Obito was 12, Rin and Kakashi and Minato were his world. If you consider youself as Rin or Kakashi, then you will like Obito so much so that you would protect that boy from getting crushed beneath those boulders. You will feel warm to have such a pure boy as your best friend.
When Madara was young, he treasured his brother Izuna very much. Plus, he loved Hashirama in a different way to the extent of awakening his Sharingan when he decided to Break Up with him. If you are Izuna or Hashi, then you are lucky to have such a loving Brother or 'Friend' like Madara.
Even with a trash like Orochimaru, you can self-insert youself as Kabuto and you'll be just fine.
Most importantly, all three of these people have a story about what made them into who they are in the later part of their life. They have a reason.
When it comes to Sakura, it's just pathetic. She is an ass to her parents, bitch towards Naruto, crassy bitch towards Sasuke, a bad friend with Ino, dissing Tsunade behind her back, left Kiba, Lee and Sai on the road without caring about their safety. If you self-insert yourself with any of the characters in Narutoverse, she looks like an unfaithful Asshole.
Unlike Obito or Madara, She was never faced with a life changing event or a personal tragedy to behave like a bitch. She was just a normal girl born to a common citizen of Konoha. Getting bullied at the young age doesn't give her a free pass to do whatever the fuck she wants with the people around her. Atleast Obito realized his mistakes and did many good things in the end.
She never asked Sorry to anyone from her heart, never understood anyone nor formed an honest friendship with anyone.
Just an absolute trash!!! 🤢🤢🤢
That's why it's just impossible for me to write anything positive about her.

AU where Deidara becomes inexplicably fond of 'Tobi' to the point of just going 'fuck it' and following Obito into crazytown and, if Obito survives The Kaguya Nonsense, he now has a bitchy art school grad student following him around like "you fucked with my head for a year after making people pressgang me into a terrorist cell, now it's my turn to fuck with you." This is partly because this one post lives in my head rent-free.
(Brainstormed on discord with help from @britishassistant. Please note that while I do usually headcanon Dei as nonbinary, this brainstorm kept to he/him pronouns and referring to him as a boy.)
Confession that this arose because I keep imagining 'person travels back to the Founders Era and wreaks havoc via Confusions, using different characters capable of 'why the FUCK' reactions every time, pinged on T7+Obito but Obito had to bring Deidara and everyone Regrets, because... boom.
Nobody wants Deidara involved, except Deidara. People especially do not want Deidara and Sai in the same room, because between Deidara's hands and Sai's 'commentary,' someone's going to get murdered. -- (Deidara is of the opinion that he should be involved in everything where there is the potential for blowing something or someone up. Deidara was sort of invited, in that Obito refuses to leave him unsupervised, but nobody really wants him, like, doing things.)
Team Seven is trying to help push a peace treaty through for the Senju and Uchiha. Keeping an eye out for Zetsu, Obito's talking Madara around as the person who actually knows him best, Naruto is Vibing with Hashirama on a level nobody hoped they'd reach, Sakura's smoothing ruffled feathers by healing the dying, Yamato is demonstrating Mokuton as evidence of something, and Kakashi has his hand over Sai's mouth so they don't cause an international incident. Sasuke isn't helping, just kind of in a stare-off with Izuna.
And then Obito says, "Wait, shit. We're missing a blonde." "Where's your idiot, Obito?" "He's not my idiot, Bakashi, he just--" BOOM "Ah, shit." [cue maniacal laughter in the middle distance]
"This is why I told you to keep an eye on him while I talked to Madara!" "I told Sasuke to do it!” "Why do you expect Sasuke to do anything you tell him to do?"
Part of what I was going for was: 1. Deidara and Obito have a preexisting relationship that angles heavily towards mutual antagonism due to the whole Tobi thing. 2. Deidara is both completely unhinged and capable of mass destruction, which means he's perfectly set to Cause Problems. And of course 3. This means a role reversal where Obito finds the shoe on the other foot because now he’s the one trying to rein in Deidara.
Obito is 100% done with Deidara, but this asshole is kind of his responsibility? Like? What's he gonna do, hand the kid over to Onoki? Nah, bruh, his douchebag teenage sidekick deserves better than Iwa. -- (Deidara does not, in fact, deserve better than Iwa.) -- It’s like Deidara is his kid or something, like he knows he’s hellspawn but he’s Obito’s hellspawn.
Madara: You came to convince us of peace, yet you bring-- Obito: No, shut up, it's better than leaving him to his own devices, at least this way I can stop him. Hashirama: How do we convince the Daimyou this is a good idea? Madara: We need to make him think there's a bigger threat, maybe? One that he can't fight without united shinobi clans to hire, rather than pitting us against one another to maintain his economic dominance. Hashirama: But there aren't any bi-- Deidara: I VOLUNTEER
Obito: So what are we going to do? Deidara: Blow up buildings belonging to the rich and powerful. Obito: And what are we not going to do? Deidara: ...blow up the innocent? Like kids? And poor people? Obito: Okay, yes. That's pretty much it. Deidara: Wait, can I blow up a monastery? Obito: Do you want the Shinigami to come after our heads?! No!!! Deidara: What if it's a Jashinist temple? Obito: We have seen evidence that one exists, do you really want to risk it?
Hashirama, full of 😀 : I brought dango! Deidara, to Obito: Are you going to eat it with your eye again. Madara, Izuna, all the Uchiha: [turn to stare] Obito: Literally why do I put up with you.
(Deidara is that one kid who Delights in telling everyone about the weird and dumb shit Obito pulled as Tobi.)
Deidara: Hey, dipshit, you wanna-- Obito:
Tumblr media
Also, Kakashi has his four brats so Obito gets to keep Deidara. It’s only fair. -- Kakashi at least has Tenzo to coparent, and some of his kids are well-behaved... ish. They try, at least. Obito's just got a Hell Child who actively delights in causing mischief and mayhem. -- The most Naruto's going to do is dye your hair in your sleep. Sai makes dick jokes and Sakura punches things, but overall, they're not bad kids! Sasuke is. Sasuke. But that's okay, that's why there's a solid five people in that team to handle his bullshit.
Whereas Obito is stuck. With an art school grad student. -- Deidara is contextually the epitome of "I think I will cause problems on purpose." -- (Deidara... is what Tenzo would call “a bad influence.”)
Btw? Keep Sai and Deidara away from each other. Kakashi learns that the hard way. -- "Captain, the art kids are fightingggggg!"
Kakashi: Obito get a handle on your disaster Obito: DON’T YOU TALK ABOUT MY BOY THAT WAY
Jumping back a tiny bit though, Obito regularly asks Yamato to use his Mokuton to seal up Deidara's chakra for a bit. (Is this how it works in canon? Probably not, I think it's just bijuu chakra, but I also Do Not Care.)
But honestly, when it comes to Team Seven, Deidara is that one older cousin at family reunions that teaches you how to hotwire a car. -- Deidara is okay with Naruto and Sakura, ish. -- He antagonizes Sai in a way that ends in tears. -- He. Has to be kept away from Sasuke. For a variety of reasons, most of which have to do with Eyes and Explosions and Itachi.
Sasuke barely remembers who Deidara is, he’s just grumpy he couldn’t bring anyone from Taka with him.
Meanwhile Taka is just. They’re assholes? Taka bitches enough to hunt him down. They excuse it with "Juugo needs you" -- "I'm in a different dimension, eighty years in the past, how did you..." -- "Science ninja. Best sensor on the continent." -- "Also we asked Orochimaru for help." -- "Yeah, we asked Orochimaru for help."
Taka being there signals a marked improvement in Sasuke’s demeanor and cooperation, and Kakashi just resigns himself to having four more kids. -- Juugo is a godsend when he's not being set off into a homicidal rage. And he apologizes! Meanwhile, Karin and Suigetsu are The Worst.
T7+Obito and Deidara have been in the past and bullying the clans into a peace for like a week and then they just hear MASSIVE ROARING a mile away and Sasuke's like "Oh, hey, it's my idiots." -- Sasuke’s grinning for the first time in weeks. (It’s tiny and barely perceptible but it’s there.) -- I don't know that Taka could actually help at all, but they sure can cause more problems. Unlike Deidara, most of them are not intentional.
Suigetsu: Hey, Sasuke, so I know that Deidara guy tried to kill you... Sasuke: He did? Suigetsu: --but would you be mad if I tried to hook up with him? Sasuke: I don't care, knock yourself out.
(Suigetsu is the kind of man that wears tearaway pants just to reveal rainbow leggings that say "I'M GAY" on them. If Suigetsu and Sasuke didn't have at least one 'no homo' make-out session... well, I wouldn't put money on it either way, but I do think it's a valid reading of the text.)
------------------
Deidara: What's it like when Obito actually decides to be serious? Kakashi: Uhhhhhhhhhhhh Obito, previously:
Tumblr media
Kakashi: Trauma. It's trauma.

HIIIII!! I really realllly love reading your tags on your retweets! It's one of my favorite things to see while scrolling down my TL. I was wondering if you have any of your fave TEAM 7 gen fics you could recommend? 💖💕 preferably no ships and just something that focuses on their dynamic and growing solidarity with each other!
HELLO! thank you so much omfg 💖 i’m so so sorry it took me so long to respond, i had the answer all drafted out and ready to go and then my dumb ass CLOSED THE TAB and i lost everything 😭 i had to rewrite the post which took a while FJDFSJ but it’s here now!! i really hope these are fics you haven’t seen/read before (omfg could you imagine if you’ve read every fic on this list i’d feel so bad 😭) but yeah!! i hope this helps!! 💖
(also side note, your icon is SO cute, i always see it in my notifs but i never got the chance to tell you until now LOLOL)
MULTI-CHAPTER
komorebi by tomorrowsrain ─ okay, i know you said preferably no ships (we’re already off to a rocky start FDJFKSJ) but this is literally my favorite team 7 fic ever, it’s impossible for me not to include it. it’s kakaobi, and team 7 doesn’t come in until ch. 3 of the first part, but i highly HIGHLY recommend it. seriously, this is my absolute favorite characterization of the members of team 7 & their dynamic, the author does such a good job of building their relationship from teammates to family. i will say the first chapter is a little disorienting (it’s in first person POV, which i usually tend to avoid when it comes to fanfiction, but the author does it so well and it does shift straight back to third person POV for the rest of the chapters). the author is currently writing the chuunin exams arc and it’s literally everything i wanted.
tides by edenfalling ─ omg, this was one of the first team 7 fics i ever read waaay back on ff.net when i was like, 12 years old. unlike most of the fics on this list, this is set in shippuden, but it’s very much AU/canon-divergent. good character dynamics with team 7 learning how to work together again<3
how to make a team by Pleasedial123 ─ basically, kakashi gets his head out of his ass and actually invests time into strengthening the bonds between the members of team 7. don’t get me wrong, i absolutely LOVE canon!kakashi & i know he did his best (he was traumatized + not ready to be a teacher, i get it)... plus, if he was a good teacher in canon, there literally wouldn’t have been a plot. basically this is me saying fuck kishimoto because LOOK at what we could’ve had!!
and so, the sensei supports his students by ihopethelightwillshineupon ─ this is really more kakashi-centric and it focuses more on his relationship with each of his students than on the dynamic between naruto, sasuke, and sakura (but kakashi is technically part of team 7 so it still counts!!)
ONE-SHOTS
for warmth by magnificentbirb ─ a scene i wish we would’ve gotten in canon.... like you’re telling me there are literally HOURS of filler episodes and we couldn’t get ONE soft, genin team 7 moment?? kishimoto & studio pierrot, you’ll be hearing from my lawyers.
believing in heroes by guycecil ─ another moment i wish we got in canon because like... can we talk about how, in their genin days, these kids are 12 years old. are you fucking kidding me. also, now that i’m skimming over the fic, this may be more sakura-centric than team 7 centric, but i’d still highly recommend!
the pretty one by theformerone ─ it’s tagged as ot3, but i promise there are no ships! like maaaybe if you squint? but i honestly read it as platonic. one of my favorite fics ever tbh. answers the question that i’ve been thinking about since the manga was released all those years ago: what could have happened if kakashi was too late?
take the fight from the kid by theformerone ─ someone tell me why these 12 year old kids aren’t allowed to process anything on screen.... like, right after the wave arc, everything just went back to normal. like okay, yes, naruto had that moment to grieve for zabuza + haku, but i really just wanted to see a shift in the team 7 dynamics and we never really got it. so take this beautifully written fic instead!! god bless fanfiction.
pray my name by Chancy_Lurking ─ ok so this is a fic that i found today and i’m OBSESSED. i do want to warn you, since you asked for no ships: it’s not tagged as ot3, but it could be if you squint. or, you could argue that team 7 is just very affectionate/very codependent. either way, right after i finished reading it, all i wanted to do was curl up in my bed and cry (but like, in a good way).
just killing time by edenfalling ─ a very short but cute little one-shot that i also just found today! same author as tides, so if you read that first and you like their work, you should check this one out! (or vice versa)
did you inherit a sickness? did you blame god? by hotgirl ─ i literally recommend this fic to anyone and everyone because like?? it doesn’t exactly match what you’re looking for but it does have team 7 moments (heads up: it’s implied sns). this is honestly one of the best sasuke characterizations i’ve ever read. 10/10 would recommend.
of bruised brains and dog baths by sweetpotatopie ─ okay so these last three fics might not be exactly what you’re looking for but i’m adding them if/when you’re in the mood for cute, feel-good team 7 one-shots. this one is just a happy, post-canon piece where they actually get along<3
another day in paradise by ohthelinsanity ─ modern au where sakura and naruto bully sasuke, sakura and sasuke bully naruto, and kakashi is weird as shit. the friendship between naruto/sasuke/sakura that i wish i got in canon. hints of past itasaku and implied inosaku, but it’s very much a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment.
gotta see! finally know! kakashi-sensei’s true face! by Lolistar92 ─ my FAVORITE face reveal fic EVER. episode 101 from naruto is the only filler that deserves rights (and maybe the curry arc because i love team gai, the ramen episode, and all the episodes with konoha 11. but mostly ep 101.)

Naruto takes that might enrage you (girl addition)
Warning, some of these takes might enrage you- that’s fine.
Fillers don’t count as canon, don’t even bring them up if you talk about this post lol. Also it’s been a while since I’ve seen the whole series, so some of these might be disproven as I continue with my rewatch. The excuse that Shounen is for boys is also very weak and holds no weight, as tons of girls (and nonbinary folk) relate to the characters in this show, so that doesn’t excuse Kishimoto for his weak writing of women.
To preface, I love this show. Love it to pieces. It was part of my childhood and holds a very special place in my heart. But there are some things I personally don’t like or wish could have been done better. I love every character and will go blue in the face talking about how much I still love this show. That doesn’t free it from my criticism. I’m also only listing what I don’t like and what I would change, though I’d be more than happy making a post about what I loved.
Let’s start off with my girl Sakura Haruno. She is easily the most hated girl in the series, and all because of how ‘weak’ or ‘annoying’ she is. As if that’s not the fault of Kishimoto himself lol. She was shoved off to the side continuously and never given cool storylines, unlike the other members of her team.
What I took issue with about Sakura:
-What were this girls dreams?? The whole reason she became a ninja was never really talked about nor were they really developed as time went on. She was all about Sasuke, which would be fine if she grew out of it. But no.
-Her crush on Sasuke was super stale. He was handsome and powerful, but what else was there to him? He was a jerk to her most of the time (there are some instances he’s somewhat kind to her, but if we go off canon, it’s not enough to make her deep love make sense). I think it would have been so much more interesting to see her grow out of her infatuation for him. If they had to have ended up together, watching them relearn each other and fall in love would have made them more compelling. She stayed loving a boy who thought very little of her.
-She’s pitted against her best friend and doesn’t develop much of a relationship with other girls her age. It’s kind of sad, and I think they should have fought over something other than a boy.
-We are told repeatedly that she’s super powerful by other characters, but she’s never given time to truly shine. She got like a single battle with Sasori and she deserved more cool moments like that!
-She was a healer, which makes perfect sense. But why is it mostly girls who are the healers? It’s a bit weird, when there’s also Neji with his perfect chakra control. She only has her healing abilities and her super strength; but even then someone like Kabuto has more offensive healing based techniques than her. Like his chakra scalpel.
What I would fix:
-New dreams. Show her find a dream outside of her team and grow into it. Also give her more of a backstory. Sai has more of a backstory than she does and he’s way newer than she is.
-I would let her fuck up one of the Peins instead of Konohomaru- she’s a main character and passed over for that little brat?? She should have gotten to do more than scream out for Naruto and heal people :/
-She her intellect a bit more. She’s so smart, and yet we don’t really see it.
-She’s perfect for genjutsu, Kakashi himself said so. So why not give that to her? Or play more with ninjutsu. She has earth and water on her chart, so why not give her those abilities? Maybe even wood jutsu to even her out with her super OP teammates. Idk how, it could have happened, this is a show full of demons and god like abilities, it could have happened someway.
-She should have grown out of Sasuke and not married a man who doesn’t really appreciate her and isn’t there for her at all.
-I would totally have expanded on Inner Sakura more. Imagine if it made her mind impenetrable? Could have woven that in with her skills for genjutsu and made her unaffected by other’s illusions.
Next, let’s go with a more beloved character of the fandom. Hinata. Now personally I don’t care much for her- she could have been so cool but just like Sakura, they kind of messed her up.
What I didn’t like about Hinata:
-Her entire existence is revolves around Naruto. Naruto this, Naruto that- and yet she simply sat back and watched as his life was shit and did nothing despite her ‘love’ for him. And then fillers/movies are added to show that oh wait! she’s been there this entire time!! no lol. Build her up from the start as his love interest at the very least.
-She stayed super meek the entire time. Shy girls are okay, but I wanted to see her grow into herself more and not need as much reassurance. She’s a ninja and should stand on her own two feet more.
-She’s less skilled then Neji and I would have loved to see her outmatch him at some point, even once. Or gain abilities outside of her clan, or do something that made a name for herself outside of being the heiress of the Hyuga.
-She never fixed her clan which was one of her few spoken goals. That was a huge bummer.
-I think it would have been cool to see her mess up Pein a little more. She only stepped in because it was Naruto, which reinforces that she’s only about him. But at least let her land a hit if she’s as powerful as people say she is.
-She makes the most sense to be a housewife or a healer with the way her attitude is but in Boruto, she’s kind of rewritten to be a ‘scary’ mother which just doesn’t fit her. Plus, she tells Boruto to go and take care of his dad?? Bro, that’s your child and your husband is the hokage.
What I’d fix:
-Prove her dad wrong and show him that her compassion isn’t a weakness but a strength.
-Fix the Hyuga clan bs.
-More character growth and showing more of her life away from Naruto. Her romance with him could also have been better. I hated her always watching him but never standing up for him, it kills me.
-Neij dying for her proved their clans hierarchy bs to be right and it just doesn’t make sense for him to die for her. It showed that he was right to feel caged and that he simply existed for the benefit of the Main family.
Now with the others, there’s much less I have to say about them because they aren’t main characters or the love interests.
Ino-
-Jealous of Sakura, no dreams of her own, stupidly loves Sasuke and for what? WHAT’S SO COOL ABOUT HIM?
-I like her growth for the most part, it was cool watching her fight in the War Arc with her team.
-Why is she the medical ninja? I never got that.
-She got with Sai but they didn’t really show their development and how they fell in love with each other. It’s like she only likes him because he looks like Sasuke and called her pretty once.
Tenten-
-Should have gotten to train with Tsunade at some point, since she was the one who originally idolized her.
-We know nothing about this girl at all. She doesn’t even have a last name.
-Her weapon usage was meant to be so cool and yet she missed so often- there’s a disconnect there. Her abilities could have been built up more. Imagine if no matter what she never ever missed. That would have been cool.
-Her weapon shop isn’t doing well. Just because it’s an era of peace doesn’t mean the need for weapons is totally over, not if there are still active ninja??
Karin-
-I actually like her, she’s kind of funny and I like that she’s mean even if she can get annoying.
-Again, another healer, though she’s also sensory which is more interesting. I’d like to see her with some jutsus though. That would have been neat.
-Her love for Sasuke makes sense since he saved her and smiled at her, making her think of him as her hero. And she’s the only one he apologizes to without Naruto strong arming him into it.
Temari-
-She’s pretty solid in my opinion. Though I would have loved to see her more without her brothers.
Konan-
-Her goals in life were to support Yahiko and Nagito’s dreams. It would irritate me so much if other girls in the series were more well rounded and din’t also have some sort of dream involving a boy.
-She was underused. I would have loved to see her fight more.
Tsunade-
-Only becomes hokage to support others dreams...All of them men. And then later passes the title onto Kakashi who doesn’t even want to be Hokage either.
-No other justus used, she’s on par with Jiraya and Orochimaru and yet she’s only super strong and the best medic. She should theoretically be more well rounded than that, right? She also should be shown fighting more even if she’s a medic, she’s also s legendary sannin
-Had to be saved by 12 year old Naruto. I know it’s a show about him, but she’s meant to be a literal badass but needs a kid to save her.
Kushina-
-Wanted to become the first woman hokage and then didn’t. Her husband did. and then she became a housewife?? What?? She should have become the first woman hokage with a badass husband or had another prominent role in the village like as a council member or something.
Kurenai-
-Always lost a fight? She’s some genjutsu using badass but always lost fights.
-No real personality, she’s just chilling there. Sexy as hell though. Has a kid and that’s about it.
-What I will give her is that I’m so glad she was allowed to age. So many anime mothers always look the same as their teenage self and she looks like she can be anybody's mama.
Over all, the girls could have been handled much better. I wouldn’t find issues with any of them being housewives or all about boys if that weren’t what seems to be the standard in the anime. I just wanted more of a variety and better character development, especially for Sakura and Hinata who are the mains 😩
Now to what might REALLY piss people off- ships! I’m not trying to start some war here, this is just my opinion and you can take it or leave it.
Sakura- Naruto, since they had the most development and showed more than two seconds of caring for each other. Even Sai in Shippuden has more of a connection to Sakura than Sasuke did.
Ino-Shikamaru, if she had to end up with a guy it makes sense it’d be him since they spend more time together than her and Sai did. (inosaku for the win tho)
Hinata-Shino or Kiba, again, because they spent more time with her. Naruto and her felt very rushed and I don’t quite understand the appeal.
The one that made the most sense and became canon was Shikatem, though their son’s design was lazy :D
If I do a second part, it’ll be about the boys and the ships with them that made sense to me. For now, this is all I have. If you’ve made it this far, thank you lol

When and why do you think Madara gave up the dream of the village, or did he have it in the first place? Since its implied that Hashirama tired to make peace the second he became clan head only for Madara to refuse him until Izuna's death. Why do you think it took Madara so long to agree when he dreamt of it with Hashirama when they were young. Or do you think that he was just humoring Hashirama when they were young and never had that dream?
Ooh I have a lot of thoughts on this! Okay, so first of all I whole-heartedly believe Madara and Hashirama shared the same dream when they were young. I’d even argue that Madara started to have it first. In Hashirama’s flashbacks (which my god, I wish we had Madara’s perspective on that so much) to me it seems like he’s frustrated with the fighting and the war but can’t quite vocalize the idea of peace. It’s when he meets back up with Madara and Madara tells him to trust someone you need to know their guts and presents that as the unlikely but ultimate way to make peace that Hashirama latches onto the idea and then they develop the idea for the village specifically together until it becomes their dream, and once Madara abandons it, becomes “only” Hashirama’s.
As for why Madara didn’t agree immediately when he became clan head, I have different two different theories, and a whole lot of realisitc overlooked complications. The first and most bitter theory is at this point in the overall narrative the ‘Uchiha are genetically pre-dispositioned to evil’ theme has picked up steam and the reincarnation reveal is right around the corner. To make Naruto’s ultimate triumph of ‘winning Sasuke back to the side of good’ the most meaningful, Hashirama and Madara (and Asura and Indra before them) had to fail by the narrative design. Naruto is the child of prophecy and the reincarnation of ninja jesus, he’s the Most Special right now. None of this is helped by the fact that we don’t get Madara’s side. We don’t know why Madara refused peace. If that was explained, if Madara even referenced it in his fight with Hashirama I would be less bitter and more inclined to believe there was actual narrative weight in that decision. But it’s not and while I love part 1 baby Naruto with all my heart, ever since the child of prophecy plot point was brought up and all throughout the war arc I am most happy when we are not following him because the world bends to accommodate him as the mc more than usual at the detriment to other characters.
Now for a not bitter theory, with the scraps were given and a lot of guessing lol. Madara’s decision not to accept peace immediately once he becomes clan head, should narratively tie into why he broke off his friendship with Hashirama in the first place. We know the river confrontation happened, but we don’t know how the Uchiha discovered was meeting Hashirama, or their reaction to it. Personally, I love good dad Tajima, but realistically I think his reaction would be similar to Butsuma’s. Madara would be threatened with being labeled a traitor to the clan. However, the real crux for me would be Izuna. Izuna is Madara’s main priority from what we can tell. If Tajima suggested, or threatened, that Madara’s meetings with Hashirama would directly lead to Izuna’s death...I can see that being a greater fear for him. Neither Madara or Hashirama would want to be banished from their clans but the knowledge that his friendship with Hashirama was the cause of his brother’s death would be the single worst outcome for Madara. Cue the actual river confrontation, with Tobirama and Izuna clashing and then both dads trying to kill the other’s kid that was Madara’s worst-case come true. I don’t think he went into the confrontation with the intention of breaking his friendship with Hashirama. They both tried to leave early to prevent the confrontation after all. But when it happened and Madara was faced with that...he did the only thing he could think to do to protect his brother even at the cost of his own happiness. The agony of that choice was the Sharingan moment for me. From there it gets blurry but the way I see Madara is he felt he couldn’t go back on that decision and he internalized it. He made it and getting close to Hashirama again, listening to him and accepting peace, would still ultimately lead to his brother’s death. This could explain why after Izuna died, he gave it one last go and when he was defeated ultimately accepted peace. His worst case had come true. Izuna’s dead and, in a twist of fate, he died because Madara chose to not to accept Hashirama’s friendship when he could.
The above is kind of my “main” theory, directly from canon explanation. It gets complicated by other ideas that weren’t addressed at all, but would reasonably come up if the narrative was focused on this time rather than Hashirama’s entire backstory being just that, a backstory. We know the Uchiha and Senju had been at war for generations and the overall terrible conditions of the Warring State Period as well as how ninja clans were hired as mercenaries...beyond that...there’s not a lot. A major consideration to Madara not accepting peace should be the political climate. Were there multiple daimyos (I ask this because the Warring States period was analogous to Japan’s Sengoku period and there were multiple daimyos fighting for power. Who would have the money/need to hire multiple clans to fight against each other if there was just one?) was there just one? Madara is the leader of a clan but he can’t just decide to do things if it would possibly jeopardize the Uchiha’s ability to work, get paid, and eat. Then you have the politics of the clans themselves. There were Uchiha defectors and they were at least willing to accept peace, but we get no indication about the clan’s changing attitude towards the Senju or peace. After being grievously injured, Izuna was still against it. There could have been a group that was completely anti-peace and a group that was pro-peace and how would Madara reconcile with that especially if he wasn’t a beloved leader? I do think Madara as clan head could make the decision ‘we’re making peace with the Senju’ but then forcing two enemy clans to cohabitate that hate each other...even if they were tired of war Madara would be risking his clan’s wellbeing on Hashirama’s word. I think Madara could believe Hashirama but the rest of the Senju? That’s a different question altogether and raises it’s own concerns.
The concept of making peace and creating the village is a complicated matter, much more so than two boys declaring they’ll be the strongest so everyone has to listen to them. I really think this point in the narrative just kind of...had to exist with the way Kishi wrote the story esp with the upcoming Indra/Ashura parallels. Realistically there would have been a lot of reasons Madara couldn’t immediately accept peace even if he wanted to. These could have been hinted at, but because I think the ultimate goals of the backstory was 1. to lay out Madara’s villain origin and 2. to hint at Hashirama failed where Naruto will succeed and all of this has to be delivered as quickly and effectively as possible, those other possible reasons weren’t explored. I would have liked a line or two of dialogue between Hashirama and Madara about this, especially whenever Madara mentions Konoha isn’t his dream and ground it in realistic obstacles rather than ‘space alien goddess’ will manipulating him for x amount of time’ but...you know.
Hashirama and Madara’s relationship was well developed and great, but Naruto suffers the mot imo when realistic longstanding problems come up, especially if they’re problems caused by historical events or the current socio-political climate. The biggest evidence of this is...what were the great shinobi wars about? Why did they start? What were they fought over? When did they end? What were their consequences? It’s...surprisingly hard to answer these vital questions and “why didn’t Madara immediately accept peace?” ultimately falls into the same category for me.
This is all from Madara’s perspective and tbh I could write a whole thing about why Hashirama was so gung-ho about immediate peace and the pro/cons of that but this is already way too long lol.

Ehy! How are you?Can I ask what do you think about the ship of Deku and Uraraka and Katsudeku. The first one had the chance to be good😪 however I'm still hoping for the latest chapters😊
I did a bit of analysis/discussion of those two ships on this post: https://echodrops.tumblr.com/post/177580147911/why-do-certain-ships-become-so-popular-and-why
If you’re asking for my general opinion, I don’t ship either of these ships, but I also don’t think there is anything wrong with them or anything; they’re just not my preferred dynamics, etc.
In terms of Deku/Uraraka, I think that it would have been a more developed and fulfilling main ship in the hands of an author more experienced at writing female characters. Even though I agree the most recent BNHA chapter gives me a little--teeny tiny--bit of hope that Uraraka might be used as an opportunity to explore the complex idea of disillusionment and the harsh realities of a hero society, given what she just witnessed... The other, more skeptical part of me doubts whether she’ll really get much more than a scene like “No, I can’t let myself get discouraged! I need to be like Deku who never gives up!” and that’s all we’ll get from her current placement in the arc.
In order for me to have really gotten into this ship, I think that Ochako would have needed more involvement in the story from the beginning. She’s been sidelined and pigeonholed into the love interest/girl with a crush role so often since the beginning of the manga that I’ve already written Deku/Uraraka off as “Probably going to become canon by the end of the story, but will readers actually care? I doubt.” Even if Ochako gets some hardcore development here in the 11th hour of the manga, I think it would be hard for fans to forget that other characters in the story (i.e. Bakugou) had so much more depth to their interactions with Deku through so many more chapters. If Ochako’s role in the story had been given more attention and depth from the start, I think that Deku/Uraraka would be a lot more popular with female fans.
What can you say about BakuDeku... It’s the Naruto and Sasuke of BNHA, but Bakugou is actually likable unlike Sasuke, uhhhh I mean... There’s zero chance of BakuDeku actually becoming canon but it’s pretty obvious why so many people ship it, since they are definitely the two main characters with the most meaningful interactions between them. Their relationship might be full of rivalry and resentment but it’s also the most important friendship either one of them has had, and their personal interactions with each other also have massive impacts on the main story of the manga, which means that they’re tied in deeply to each other’s character growth arcs, etc. You can remove like 90% of the rest of the cast of this manga, but you can’t really split up Bakugou and Deku; it just wouldn’t work plot-wise, which tells you just about everything you need to know as to why it’s so popular.
The funny thing is that there’s a ton of shounen writers who are like “I suck at writing romances” but then they pull out shit like Bakugou nobly redeeming himself for his past bullying by throwing himself in front of Tomura’s attack to save Deku’s life, and you just have to go “Oh, so you do know how to write romance, you’re just confused about which characters you’re writing it for. I see, I see.”
Ha ha, I don’t know what else to really say about these ships! If there’s something specific you’d like to me to talk about with them, let me know!

Hello! For the meta asks, would you do 1, 5, 8, and 17?
you did not come to play, lilac! thanks for all these questions! <3
1. Tell us about your current project(s)  –   what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?
oh lord. that’s a... question. i have. so many current projects, i don’t even know where to start. this is gonna be long so please bear with me lol i’ll probably give more detail for some fics over others, and i’ll only go over fics I’ve got documents for because otherwise we’d be here forever.
The Art of Love: so this one is obvious because it’s been in progress for the last 2ish years? no i think it’s three now. I won’t go into detail with this because the fic is roughly halfway through, so there’s plenty of content for that up! I’d say the progress with that fic is actually going really well, though. Unlike Alliance, which took 8 years--five years of writing, three of editing--TAoL has been up for way less time, and is already about to hit the halfway mark! I really need to get back to it, tbh because it’s been way too long since my last update.
Honor Bound (sequel to Alliance): so this is.... kind of on pause. I’ve got the first three chapters written, but my focus has been more on TAoL when it comes to my more complicated, long running stories, so HB has taken a backseat. I think I won’t get back to working on the Allied Nations Saga until after TAoL is done, in all honesty.
Find Me: this is my HS AU, which has been on the back burner forever and I feel terrible because I think it may honestly be my most popular fic. Unfortunately, AUs/slice of life stuff is difficult for me because I’m more interested in politics, so I lost momentum on this fic. It is about halfway done. I have a good chunk of chapter six written, but not enough that I could say I’m close to finishing it.
It Eats Your Heart: obviously I just started this one, and it’s a horror fic. I’ve really gotta sit down and do some major plotting on it because I only have some very vague ideas currently.
Pearl-Filled Lungs: this is one of like three ningyo AUs I have--the other are pirate/ningyo AUs (and ones actually a selkie not a ningyo). I started it last year for the GaaLee fest, and it’s been sitting unfinished for far too long. I finally sat down recently and plotted the whole thing out, so I’m hoping to get back to working on it soon! It’s only 5 chapters in total, so I don’t think it’ll take me super long to get through once I sit down and do it.
Who Dares to Love Forever: This is a working title, and I may change it. This is a fic idea I’ve had for a couple years, inspired by the song Who Wants to Live Forever by Queen. This particular fic is a vehicle for my sage mode!rock lee headcanon, and explores just how effective Chiyo giving Gaara her life would have been given she was an old biddy. So the idea for this fic is that Gaara’s running out of time because Chiyo only had so much to offer.
Absolution: this is another fic that I’ve had on the back burner for years. it was initially inspired by art by @brianadoesotherjunk but quickly spiraled into something much bigger because of course it did. This particular fic is one I’m extremely excited about. I need to go back over the first part, because I feel like it’s not quite right, but I do technically have the first part done. This fic follows Gaara struggling with bouts of narcolepsy that trigger nightmares induced by trauma and guilt from his childhood. These nightmares are incredibly dangerous for obvious reasons, but even more so because Temari’s baby is on the way. Temari and Shikamaru are married, living in the Kazekage estate, and with their baby coming and both needing/wanting to get back to work, they also need a nanny. Unbeknownst to Gaara, the year prior to the events of the fic, Maito Gai died, succumbing to the 8th Gate finally, and Lee has since been spiraling. His depression has become so self-destructive that he’s been taken off active duty. Shikamaru, along with the rest of the Konoha 12 (minus Neji and Sasuke), get together and discuss what to do. Tenten believes that Lee being a nanny would be the perfect thing. And so Rock Lee is sent to Suna, hired by Shikamaru and Temari as their live-in nanny...
We Need Not Be Yellow Tulips in a Garden of Gardenia’s, Yet We Go the Way of the Red Camellia: true to form, I decided that a hanahaki fic was something I had to do, and I was not going to pass up the chance at being as Extra As Possible with the flowery language, ergo the ridiculous title. I’ve gotten part way through the first chapter of this fic, but the whole thing is roughly plotted out and each chapter title is just as extra as the whole fic’s title.
Thirteen Strokes: so this is a fic I have--once again--had on my mind for ages, and--once again, because I am nothing if not a caricature of myself--inspired by a Florence+the Machine song, All This and Heaven Too. I started writing this the other night, as I wanna use it for GaaLee bingo. It’ll be 13 chapters, as per the 13 strokes that it takes to make the character for love, ai, in Japanese. The fic is from Gaara’s PoV, and follows his journey with and his relationship to love, with lots of worldbuilding and politics because it wouldn’t be an Eeri Original without those things.
Scarification: this is another idea for bingo based around the prompt shinshoubyou, which is a fictional disease where your emotions cause physical marks on you
Fill in the [  ]: another bingo idea, based around the prompt bouaishoukoigun, the fictional disease where you forget the person you love if it’s unrequited.
The Eagle’s Augury: an idea that allows me to play around with more worldbuilding and focus on Karura. In this fic, the curse (mentioned briefly on the Naruto wikia) that has led to every single Kazekage being assassinated, is coming for Gaara, and Karura is trying to warn him from beyond the grave. At the same time, Temari and Shikamaru’s marriage is approaching, and their ceremony is being held in Suna, with all the fan fair a marriage for someone from the Kazekage line should see. Again, another fic inspired by Miss Florence+the Machine, the song is Mother
Pomegranate Sun: this is a fic that I am... so excited about. Another fic that was originally inspired by a Queen song, Under Pressure, and has of course taken on a life of its own. This fic, I am actually going to be writing with @ghoste-catte! It’s an arranged marriage trope, and I’m super pumped for it! We’ve only got a little bit started, and it has obviously not taken priority for either of us since we both have a lot of fics on our plates.
The Ballad of the Dragon and the Phoenix: this is a fic I’m really excited but is going to take a LOT of research to get off the ground. I had this idea sometime last year, I wanna say? This fic is another self-indulgent headcanon about Lee’s origins, his family, etc. This fic starts when Gaara shows up on Lee’s doorstep, asking him to accompany him to another country for reasons Lee cannot understand. Gaara has been in talks with Phoenix Kingdom, hoping to forge a new relationship only to find that the Emperor wants to use shinobi for militaristic purposes. Lee doesn’t understand what help he could possibly offer the Kazekage, but he can’t very well turn him down.
okay, i’m gonna stop there. these are the ones I have titles and documents for, and honestly that’s probably way more than you wanted to know about lol
5. What character that you’re writing do you most identify with?
Despite the fact that most of my fics end up from Gaara’s PoV, I actually identify with Lee the most!
8. Is what you like to write the same as what you like to read?
Yes! Which is hard to find, tbh, because I am a sucker for political dramas with slow burn romances, but I don’t see a lot of that in the GaaLee fandom. I’m not as into like slice of life or short stories where the characters get together quick, I’m really not into established relationship fics unless it’s a sequel, so I tend to avoid those. I like AUs but it really depends on the AU, because I ultimately prefer the canon and I love seeing the way people write the shinobi world and all its rules and cultures and things. I’m just a big fan of worldbuilding, politics, and slow slow burns. Not this 25k SLOW BURN! crap because that is NOT a slow burn. I wanna see a fic that’s 200k words in and they still haven’t even figured out they’re in love! I like stories I can really sink my teeth into, ya know?
17. Do you think readers perceive your work - or you - differently to you? What do you think would surprise your readers about your writing or your motivations?
Oh gosh. I generally don’t think too much about it except like hoping people don’t think I’m like a stuck up asshole because of how I talk about my writing, writing in general, my hcs, etc. I mean, obviously I don’t expect everyone in this fandom to like me--and there are ppl I’ve gone out of my way to be vocally against because they do nasty shit--but largely I feel like I come across as too intense, so even the general population of GaaLee fans that I do want to interact with I’m always a lil nervous that people secretly don’t like me and basically are like “oh god this bitch again” when they see me in the tags. But I just get really excited and invested in my ideas, and honestly for the longest time this fandom was SO small and there weren’t a lot of people putting out content regularly so it was like a handful of us so I think it made me more emphatic about GaaLee lol I think I always like assume people aren’t as excited about my writing as I am or that people are like “too much politic, i need more romance”.
I’m always surprised when people really love my AUs, like Kado or Find Me have had such fantastic reception, and it’s like people just eat that shit up so much. And then I look at like Alliance or Art of Love and get kind of confused because I think by comparison those are more interesting and more developed than my AUs. I put a shit ton of work into everything I write, especially anything that requires research, so it’s not to say that I do less work per say, just that I feel like TAoL and things like it are more interesting and more developed, and the relationship feels.... somehow more to me there than in an AU.
a lot of my motivation really just comes from the lack of content this fandom had for so many years, and the fact that Naruto could have been a much more interesting series and I love worldbuilding so much. I think my motivation for each fic is different though. Like Alliance was started because I wanted to write something different from what was mainly in the fandom at the time because mind you I started that in 2010. But my motivation for TAoL is more wanting to tell a beautiful story with a complex narrative that looks at the failings of the shinobi world. Whereas like any slice of life fic is really just meant to be a fun break. And sometimes I write something literally just because I wanted to fulfill that trope for the GaaLee fandom--again, a lot of my ideas have been sitting for years and years and years (TAoL was an idea I had literally right after starting Alliance, but I didn’t get to it until 2017), so a lot of ideas that are old are because at the time that trope hadn’t been fulfilled yet in the fandom though that’s changing a lot with the recent GaaLee Renaissance of the last couple years.

Fanfic Recs of OC/Self Insert fics
Fics from Naruto
Aioka: A Career Genin by ShadowAccio6181 and UncertainAngel
When the term Career Genin comes up in casual conversation, it is often tied to failures and ninja-wanna-be’s. It is spoken with pity and undertones of dismissal by other shinobi. They were the ranks that other shinobi were thankful they were not apart of and were considered as useless individuals.
To Aioka, the Genin Corp was a gold mine of untapped potential. While most saw a cest pool of stagnation and misery, she saw talent waiting to be directed. Watch as an orphan from Tsuchi no Kuni, reforms Konoha by building up those who've lost hope.
(My Notes: Unfinished but not abandoned. A very good example of taking a very rarely used part of canon and fleshing it out wonderfully.)
Doing the Work by MarbleGlove
There’s more to peace than the absence of war. The work is as hard and uncertain as any Shinobi mission.
AKA: A highly self-indulgent fic in which a civilian woman helps an orphaned Sasuke and winds up saving the world.
(My Notes: Asexual main character with incredibly satisfying plot progression. Subtle worldbuilding with very good use of politics.)
Dragonfly by peccolia
Being reborn into the Uchiha clan in the same generation as Itachi promises nothing but a short-lived second life. But, hey—if I'm going to die with certainty, I might as well go out with a bang, right? SI Rebirth.
(My Notes: Heartbreaking. This story will murder your feelings with no remorse. It is frustrating(in a good way) and has no problem pointing out the faults of it's main character. It feels very human.)
A Stranger by Loeka
How did it come to this? Oh wait, I remember now. My weakness for all things cute.
(My Notes: Probably one of the most realistic depictions of caring for kids in fanfiction I have ever seen. The kids are not there for brownie points. They are there and they are hard to look after. Also true depictions of the writing process as well as respect for mental wounds and boundaries.)
Dragon Age
Dislocated Souls by Lonely Again
When the breach opened in the sky, spirits and demons were “driven mad” as they came through. No one mentioned all the people who were driven mad at the same time. Except they weren’t, you know. They were just dropped here, into a place most people know nothing about. People like me.
(My Notes: I love this concept. So fucking much. Breach opened in the sky and brought people from earth to thedas. Not just modern day America but different time periods and countries. I love how they crafted the different parts of this fic.)
The Editor by lunaemoth
Doleen was reborn in Thedas and became an editor in the Free Marches. Old memories come back to her when the manuscript for Varric's first book ends up on her desk. All the storylines from the games are a bit fuzzy to her but she knows one thing: she wants to meet him.
(My Notes: Short but very well done. Self indulgent in a good way.)
Fire Emblem
A Tactician's Testimony by katriona_subasa
I know what you're thinking. How could a campaign, a war, of such a high stakes have occurred without the entire continent knowing? How could a ragtag bunch of misfits, an army consisting of everything from assassins to knights to half-trained civilians have saved Elibe? Well, this is my log, my testimony if you will, of everything that happened. My name is Katri, master tactician, and this is our story. (FE7 Novelization)
(My Notes: This is one of my favorite novelization works ever. It is in depth and wonderfully crafted. The author does incredibly well at making an unlikable main character and redeeming her through many trials. Also she has an entire trilogy connected to this one and it's big. Worth it but you're going to lose a day or two.)

So does Kishi officially hate NH and SS? Because I can't help but think like that when I see them in Boruto. Like no way he wants them to be seen as happy or content. Also, it seems like he still hates Sakura because just just look at her, she hasn't really changed. Her dynamic with Sasuke hasn't really changed. She gives chase, Sasuke ignores. Except Sasuke looks more depressed.
Hey, after fifteen years of us chasing after the story and characters we invested in so much, at least give us some indication that they are least happy after sooo many sacrifices, like they deserve that happiness.
But no, if anything, they seem totally miserable. What made Kishi do that? Yes, he can't show them ooc, but Sasuke marrying Sakura is already ooc. Naruto being a bad father is already ooc. Like why go to the extent of showing Sasuke trying not to touch Sakura and pointedly showing that they never kissed? That's just like a determined effort on Kishi's part to show that their marriage is not working. Naruto works way more than any of his predecessors and sleeps in the office or couch so as not to disturb Hinata, when Hinata is specifically designed to accommodate anything that Naruto might require.
Don't get me wrong, I think Boruto is trash. But I am still in interested in SNS in Boruto because that's still canon. Just makes me wonder how Kishi will finally conclude SNS, because their bond still shows clearly in Boruto. Do you think he will kill them any time soon?
Good ask, Anon☺️☺️❤️❤️
Before answering this, I am going to tell you that I don’t watch Boruto. But I know what happened so far, vaguely. Like, Gaiden arc, Karma seal, Kawaki adoption, Kurama’s death, loss of Rinnegan, Time travel arc. Anyways, I might have missed many interactions between Sasuke & Sakura in the filler episodes or other canonical episodes. I would be happy If you send me an episode list or timestamps in where they interact, so that it saves my time instead of me, watching that entire shit show.
So does Kishi officially hate NH and SS?
In this post, I dissected SS from a non-SNS perspective. It seems Kishi went all out of his way to make their interactions too insincere, blunt and toxic. I mean Sasuke’s absolute lack of interest in her was very evident even until chapter 693. That is right before, their final VoTE fight. And even after Sakura comes to heal their injuries, he just said ‘Ummmm..... I guess Sorry’...
Kishi could have made Sasuke say some corny shit to Sakura like how he felt bad inside for hurting her, how he missed her, wiping her tears or whatever (Puke!!!! 🤮🤮🤮). Because in the previous chapter, Sasuke basically confessed to Naruto internally about how he felt about Naruto when he was a child. Kishi could have done the same for Sakura in just 4, 5 panels. But anyways, my point is, Kishi’s moment to salvage that ship is chapter 699.
But he didn’t.
Did Kishi tried to build their bond after marriage?
He definitely could’ve. But he didn’t.
This shows his clear distaste in SS.
As for NH, Kishi is indifferent. He neither hates them nor loves them. Kishi created Hinata as a pairing fodder and she still is.
Also, it seems like he still hates Sakura because just just look at her, she hasn't really changed. Her dynamic with Sasuke hasn't really changed. She gives chase, Sasuke ignores. Except Sasuke looks more depressed.
Hmmm, I don’t know whether Sasuke hates her, anon. Again, maybe I’ve missed those parts. But when he looks at her, it’s always filled with regrets and an urge to avoid her (like Itachi avoided Sasuke, but for totally sad and genuine reasons).
But this again begs the question, ‘Why feeling regret or hesitant even after 12 years?’.
Believe me anon, Love/Bonds/Understanding can happen at anytime of your life. From where I come from, not everyone marries out of love. Arranged marriages are common. But still, many couples make effort and work out their difference, and find love. Kishi could’ve done the same for SS too.
Is Sasuke that heartless? No.
He was once a boy who bear hugged his brother every time Itachi comes back from the Academy. Itachi’s presence itself made Sasuke so happy.
Did he become heartless after the massacre? Also no.
Even after the trauma, Sasuke just became aloof and cold. But he always becomes a child who can pout, be silly, becomes animated, bicker around Naruto. So, he can be lovely, but only around the people he choose by himself.
Still, Sakura is not that person. So, he looks like he is depressed and wants to escape from her at any given chance because of a certain guilt.
To answer, this goes way back, anon.
Kishi is a person who prefers to write love through intense friendship, sensei-student dynamics and brotherhood. He can occasionally write cute and sweet romance but it can only be short like 2 or 3 pages... or a chapter, max. He can’t go on doing it for 70 chapters for romance. Which was evident from Minato & Kushina, Dan & Tsunade, Obito & Rin.
But the real deal of Naruto manga is the bond between Naruto and Sasuke. The bond between Itachi and Sasuke also played a huge role in this series. And then comes Hashirama and Madara, Jiraiya and Naruto, Kakshi and Obito, Kakashi and Naruto and many more. So, Kishi pretty much gave an ending he wanted for a long time in chapter 699. He successively pulled off a great manga without corny and shitty romance but with just friendship and brotherhood alone. He didn’t give two shits about NH or SS before chapter 700.
Naruto series’ another success lies on it’s characters tragic backstories. I simply loved them all and most of them made me cry.
Kishi wanted to move on from Naruto.
But then Money played a big part. Naruto series can be milked in a lot of ways. Editors wanted all the characters to become some baby making dolls. So you have to create pairings. Based on the popularity polls, they decided NH and SS.
In my opinion, Sasuke is a goal-oriented person. He is a wanderer who works on his own accords. Ever since he left Konoha when he was 13, that was his path, so you can’t make him stay in one place. At every stage of his life, he had different goals.
At age 8-15, he had one goal. To kill Itachi. Can he have a romance here? Nope.
At age 16, his goal is to destroy Konoha. No chance of romance in that dark path.
At age 17, he wanted to Revolutionize the shinobi system. Since he wanted to be alone for that goal, no possibility of romance.
At age 18, he adopted Naruto’s dream as his own. To make all shinobi cooperate and look out for Kaguya remains. Romance cannot happen here as he was constantly wandering around and he prefers to work alone.
This is how Kishi designed Sasuke’s character throughout.
Now all of a sudden, if you ask Kishi to go OOC by asking him to write corny romance for his favorite character Sasuke just for the sake of making him relevant to Boruto series, what will he do?
Since Boruto is a series which is a sequel to Naruto, you pretty much know everyone’s backstory. Those 12 year old New Gen kids possibly can’t have tragic stories like Naruto or Sasuke.
Kishi being a troller, used this opportunity to create a piss poor sob story for Sarada by making Sasuke as an absentee father and an unloving husband.
He created a sad story for Sarada and he gets to shit on SS ship. Two birds, One stone!!!!
Now, Sasuke being an unloving husband is OOC ? Nope. He was never a marriage material in the first place. So he is perfectly in-character.
Sasuke being an absentee father is OOC? No and Yes. No, because it’s the effect of the cause I mentioned above. Yes, because unlike Naruto, Sasuke once had a father. He can try to reach her out now and often. but he prefers not to do instead he cares more about Boruto. LOL.
Sasuke being not family oriented is OOC? Nope. He is a goal oriented person. His goal is same as Naruto’s dream. He will go to any extent to fulfill it, even at the expense of his family’s happiness. Because that’s what he learnt from Itachi. What Itachi taught him was, even at the expense of his own happiness and Sasuke’s trauma, he preferred Konoha and Shinobi World’s peace. That’s what Sasuke is doing now.
Naruto works way more than any of his predecessors and sleeps in the office or couch so as not to disturb Hinata, when Hinata is specifically designed to accommodate anything that Naruto might require.
As for Naruto,
I think it’s very funny. And I guess, I know why.
Just like Sasuke, Naruto is also a goal oriented person.
Remember, in that Boruto movie, Sasuke knocks Naruto’s door at the midnight?
Imagine if Naruto opened the door.
Sasuke will be like, ‘Alright mothafucka!!! I wanted to die in the VoTE itself. You wanted me in your dream world. Am working my ass off for your stupid dreams and trying to reach you without even meeting my own family. And yet here you are, sleeping well and sound. Am just gonna Chidori you!!!’ LOL.
I think you get my point.
If you make Sasuke to be an hardworker, then Naruto must work even hard to fulfill his dream. So you possibly can’t have Naruto playing duet with Himata or whatever trash.
So kishi pulled his Two birds, One Stone for NH here!!!
In short, Kishi gets to make his New generation shine through this pathetic sob stories and at the same time, kept his favorite characters without going OOC.
So, it’s a polite way of Kishi showing middlefinger to SS and NH for making him do this. He is saying, ‘Alright folks, you wanted this all along. But this is what you will get!!!’.
Just makes me wonder how Kishi will finally conclude SNS, because their bond still shows clearly in Boruto. Do you think he will kill them any time soon?
I think about this all the time. How will they end?? How will they die??
Now, don’t think I am some sadist for wanting them to die. I am just being practical and honest here. This is a new generation series. Of course, at some point, Naruto and Sasuke has to die for the sake of character development. And I will be happy if they die because I don’t like their miserable portrayal in Boruto at all.
Naruto series has a pattern when it comes to death portrayal. Meaningful characters (except Neji) always die protecting someone/something they cherish. Jiraiya died for Naruto, Yahiko died for Konan & Nagato, Itachi died for Sasuke & Konoha, Haku died for Zabuza, Obito (younger) died for Kakashi & Rin and so on.
Ever since Naruto became Hokage, his death is pretty much plastered on his head. He will die protecting Konoha just like all the Hokages from First to Fourth who sacrificed their life for Konoha.
But Sasuke???
I am going to say he will die protecting Naruto or the village. But for Naruto mostly. Either way, Sasuke will die first.
Dying for Naruto, the reasons are crystal clear. He already died protecting Naruto once in the Zabuza arc. He will never hesitate to do it again. Which was evident from the way he told Naruto in the Boruto movie while giving his Susanoo, ‘If they capture the real you, then everything is gone’. Somewhere in Boruto Manga chapter 38 (I don’t remember properly), Sasuke was yelling at Naruto, ‘If you are gone, it’s pretty hopeless’ and was praying ‘Naruto, don’t you die’.
So it’s pretty much Sasuke saying to Naruto, ‘I’ll protect you, You protect everyone’
But why the village?? Why will Sasuke die for Konoha which caused him so much pain?? I know anti-konoha stans wont like this, but that’s the reality.
It seems many Sasuke fans never paid attention to his character. After hearing the story from all the Hokages, Sasuke said, ‘I will not let Itachi’s life and this village into nothing’. He really meant it. Because for Sasuke, Itachi was more precious. Itachi died saying, ‘I’ll have protected my village as Uchiha Itachi of Konoha once again. I have no more regrets’. Sasuke wanted to respect his brother’s wish finally and that’s why he openly claimed in the battlefield, ‘I am going to protect Konoha and become it’s Hokage’. Sasuke’s another precious person is Naruto. He is the Hokage now.
Don’t you think Sasuke will die protecting something Itachi and Naruto values so much??
He even claimed it openly in Boruto Manga. ‘I would die anytime for Konoha, as has your dad (Naruto)’
Sasuke even said to Boruto, “I will stop you even if I have to kill you”. And do you think Sasuke is just pouring out some empty words??? Sasuke will not let Boruto to turn into an Otsutsuki monster and destroy the village.
Like I said, Sasuke will go out first. And eventually Naruto will follow him. Or they both die protecting the village together. I don’t see them dying for their wives or children. Because, their relationship with their family is not too strong and their ambitions are far beyond their own families.
Maybe for this reason, Kishi is trolling NH and SS in Boruto. LOL.
Naruto’s bond with Sasuke was formed even before his birth, when Kushina asked the 3 month old Baby Sasuke to be friends with Naruto.
However, One thing is for sure. One will not live very long without the Other or Both will die together. That’s how their bond should end.

Thanks for answering the ask!! About the sannin part I think they meant that introduction of characters like madara, who as kishimoto described had no weaknesses, cancelled the sannin relevance to the story and the author using sannin concept again to show sakura's equivalence was bad writing, they wanted her to have an arc to show her full power I guess!? as they were well aware of mistreatment of female characters and of the characters who are not/do not align with narugod in this series...also idk how you feel about this(because I see western sakura stans;most of them are narusakus;complaining about sakura and the other girls being underpowered)but imo naruto doesn't have/never had good storytelling so rather than being sad about sakura and my other favs' sidelining, I'd just do the selective reading and make my own headcanons, I know we rely on canon for powerscaling but there are just too many asspulls out of nowhere(I'm glad sakura didn't have one tbh and that most of her characterisation was consistent throughout the story);don't know if my thoughts make sense but thanks again for answering!! I hope I didn't waste yor time and if did I'm really sorry!
“Thanks for answering the ask!! Oh okay well imo the sannin relevance was never cancelled because what people don’t get is that team 7 was a NEW version of them in that volume and the 3 way deadlock theme was here for a long time so the story required we get an instance of team 7 being the new gen sannin. The whole relevance thing kinda falls apart when we remember that they were a new gen sannin i.e. better and stronger.
I do agree that Hashimada and then indra and asura ruined it for team 7 but my thing is, and I agree with you, I don’t let the bad cancel out the good so, so what if Hashirama and Madara are Gods compared to the sannin? Sakura and team 7 surpassing the sannin and making a new stronger trio in volume 66 is still amazing and worth celebrating. Heck if all 3 reached the same God level we’d still have a sannin thing going on again because the sannin are a concept of a deadlock and a Japanese rock/paper/scissors and I’m sure we’ll be seeing amore ‘relevant’ sannin version in Boruto with Mitsuki, Sarada and Boruto even though it’s not by Kishi.
I can get mad about Sakura being left behind again while acknowledging that the new 3 way deadlock scene(s) were amazing. So no, stronger characters coming about doesn’t invalidate the sannin parallel since the sannin parallel has nothing to do with the sannin’s actual power level, but a scenario with 3 equal ninja and equal forces working together with none ever being dominant. And easy way to make this better would have been to have Sakura still help fight Obito with the boys so fans would be more accepting of the fact that she was EQUAL.
I wanted Sakura to have treatment like an actual main, as well. Though I disagree that the sannin parallel was irrelevant. I however wanted a Mito, Hashirama and Madara parallel like the sannin one to come about but sadly, it never did and well the boys become Indra and Asura 2.0 so Sakura was pushed out completely.
“..also idk how you feel about this(because I see western sakura stans;most of them are narusakus;complaining about sakura and the other girls being underpowered)but imo naruto doesn't have/never had good storytelling so rather than being sad about sakura and my other favs' sidelining, I'd just do the selective reading and make my own headcanons, I know we rely on canon for powerscaling but there are just too many asspulls out of nowhere(I'm glad sakura didn't have one tbh and that most of her characterisation was consistent throughout the story);don't know if my thoughts make sense but thanks again for answering!! I hope I didn't waste yor time and if did I'm really sorry!”
I somewhat agree however imo it’s not strictly that the girls are underpowered, it’s more so that they do not get opportunities to shine and show what they are capable of. Kaguya was the strongest character, Sakura was on par with EMS Sasuke and KCM Naruto, Tsunade was equal to the other sannin and Temari was stronger than most of her gen with Mei being a kage of comparable power to Gaara (from my interpretation of the 5 kage vs Madara fight).
The powerscaling comment wasn’t really against you or any fan, rather, it was against people do deny clear standards set. Like Kishi making it clear that Tsunade = Orochimaru = Jiraiya and Seal Sakura = EMS Sasuke = KCM Naruto are not up for debate and me thinking EMS Sasuke’s blaze release is OP and badass and leagues above Sakura’s punching DOES NOT alter these facts. Unlike FT, Naruto’s power scaling isn’t that bad. Most of the ‘asspulls’ are Gods coming or ghosts coming and handing power to people and I do agree that Sakura not being included in that was great. She was the only team 7 member who never had power handed to her literally, vs Kaguya. They had to asspull a ghost for Kakashi to get power similar to God Sasuke and this is after Kakashi was sad about Sakura helping but not him and after he said him and Sakura would still try to help even though they’re not Gods. It was shit writing.

Heroes:Rising Notes - Deku and Kacchan
My BNHA story, TBE, is currently on hold. However, I am planning on releasing a Heroes:Rising oneshot on FanFiction.net with my OC incorporated in it.
It’s been almost two weeks since I’ve last seen the movie but I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it so I’m going to write a series of notes + reviews on Tumblr, as well as an eventual oneshot (story acronym will be T:B).
[MAJOR SPOILERS—this post will spoil the entire movie!]
I don’t ship BakuDeku in BNHA (or any other pair except KamiJiro) but Heroes:Rising will definitely be a treat for those who do and for those like me who simply love their rivalry.
[Climax Transcript] (note: I’ve never learned Japanese so the translations may not be 100% accurate).
B: Bakugo, D: Deku, YB: Younger Bakugo, YD: Younger Deku, N: Nine
B: “This will be the end of your dreams.” D: “That’s fine. There’s no other choice. And even if it’s All Might, he would say that it’s okay [to pass down One for All] if it’s you. ...If it’s you, who shared the secret with me... if it’s you who’s always admired the same person as me... if it’s you—”
YB: “All Might really is cool!” YD: “He’s a really... cool hero!”
YB: “No matter how bad of a pinch, in the end he always—” B: “—I will win!” YD: “No matter how many people are in need of help... with a smile—” D: “I will save!”
N: “Don’t make me laugh!” D: “Detroit... smash!” N: “What... what is that power?! Don’t stand in my path!” D: “Let’s go, Kacchan!” B: “Huh? Don’t order me around!”
[Fight continues]
D: “This will be my final... my final... SMASH!”
D: Goodbye... One for All... thank you.
This is pretty bare-boned considering the sakuga, pacing, and soundtrack makes these lines quite epic, but I really wanted to break down the first few lines as well as Deku’s last inner monologue.
‘Deku’ and ‘Kacchan’: There’s been a lot of rumours on Twitter/Tumblr on what Bakugo says to Deku with some of it blown way out of proportion or just simply untrue (though I have heard that the novelization of the script may be more BakuDeku heavy. I do have the book with me but there’s no furigana, so I unfortunately can’t translate it).
But the first line that Bakugo says, “This will be the end of your dreams” really got to me in the theatre. I may be self-projecting, but I think it’s a line that’s both accurately culminated their relationship thus far as well as an acknowledgement of Deku by Bakugo.
I absolutely love the latter simply because he’s one of the most consistently-written characters I’ve seen in anime who’s not just a mindless, senseless jerk, which makes his growth very organic and fun to watch.
What’s significant about that line is that if he really doesn’t care about Deku (and objectively speaking, there really hasn’t been a lot of moments in the canon where he’s shown to care for Deku’s wellbeing—only a gritty rivalry), he wouldn’t care about the fact that he got One for All.
I’m not quite sure if Bakugo’s ever expressed his desire to get One for All, but I’d argue that he wouldn’t want it because he wants to surpass All Might, which is something that the non-canon character, Tokuda Taneo, also echoed in the recap episode of Season Four. Basically, Bakugo is the type of person to say ‘I don’t need your stupid power because I’m going to be the best hero with my strength alone’. The voice actors of Midoriya and Bakugo have also noted that their fight at the end of Season Three was due to a series of ‘why’ questions from Bakugo: why was I the one who ended All Might? Why am I now chasing the back of someone who was always behind me? Was the way that I admired All Might wrong? (I will be writing a separate note on this episode in the future).
But what changed with the line “This will be the end of your dreams” is that there’s a lot of hidden nuance behind it. This is solely my opinion, but in the movie it felt like Bakugo was (1) acknowledging Deku as his rival, (2) feeling sorry that his dream has ended in this manner, (3) pitying him instead of absolute loathing, like he usually does.
The reason why I believe this to be true is because the first half of the movie opens up a lot with Bakugo watching Deku and really seeing what he’s like as a person who aims to ‘save to win’. He eavesdrops on a conversation between Deku and Katsuma (the little boy), a scene that does a really good job portraying the type of person that the hero Deku is. He’s empathetic, patient, understanding, and kind to someone that Bakugo can get irritated by, and this impatience is almost fatal later when Bakugo almost hangs up on Mahoro when the villains attack, thinking it’s another prank. Basically, the first part of the movie does a good job showing both the audience and Bakugo what sort of person Deku really is.
That line is basically saying ‘I may not like you, but I’ve seen you grow up next to me. I know how much you wanted this and how hard you’ve worked for it—that’s why you’re my rival, no matter how much I despise you. But this isn’t how I want to see your dream end.’
There’s no love lost between the two but just that one line made me positive that Bakugo was fully willing to work with Deku (something he’s either always refused to do or has done so extremely begrudgingly) not simply because Nine was too powerful, but because the entire premise of the movie and Deku’s decision to end his dream just to save Katsuma has once again shown that his once Quirkless, crybaby of a childhood friend really is a hero that he must acknowledge as well.
He knows this wasn’t an easy decision to make and one done out of pure desperation, but the interesting thing is that he asks this question after the power has already been transferred.
As if to ask, ‘Do you really think I can have this, even if it means that your dream will end?’
More surprising to me was how quickly and affirmatively Deku is willing to pass OfA to him. Over the series, he’s said multiple times of how unlikeable Bakugo can be, but he was the person who he respected the most growing up, because Bakugo was someone great that was always near him, unlike All Might.
“If it’s you, I trust that you’ll be able to recognize both our dreams.”
Deku doesn’t even give Bakugo a chance to hesitate, quickly listing out all the reasons why he was willing to hand down One for All—and his dream—to his childhood friend.
I don’t think the movie showed a lot of new sides for Deku, but that one line from Bakugo really made me feel that he cared for his childhood friend in an unexpected or different way than other typical shonen rivalries. It’s different from Kageyama/Hinata’s in Haikyuu!!, or the brother-like relationship between Sasuke and Naruto, or the one between Asta and Yuno in Black Clover, where both sides acknowledge their strengths even if others don’t.
Deku has fought so hard for so long, chasing something impossible despite all odds and actually gained the opportunity to realize his dreams. He’s gone through every roadblock, none of which were easy or handed to him, and deep down, I think Bakugo’s always acknowledged this. But I think it’s only from this fight that can really see that he needs Deku.
All Might told them that they will become the greatest heroes if they can both win to save, and save to win. I’m not sure about Deku, but the ‘save to win’ part probably never registered in Bakugo until he began to see Midoriya as a true rival.
But now, with this seemingly endless fight, Bakugo is about to witness his other half—as a friend, a rival, and as heroes—take his final stand. But unlike Kamino, he can fight with the person that he respects this time, rather than just watching from afar like he had to with All Might.
Heroes:Rising was emotional for me for many different reasons, but this line really got to me (although I will once again say that I may just be projecting my own feelings). The rivalry between Midoriya and Bakugo has always been filled with so much conflicting feelings such as envy, pride, antipathy, fear, admiration, and rejection (All Might, chapter 63), but this fight felt like those emotions could now culminate into one of pity, acknowledgement, rivalry, trust, equals, and acceptance. Which made the fight even more bittersweet for me.
Thanks for reading this stupidly long post—it’s been on my mind for days now and I just had to spit it out somewhere. I don’t know if I could even call them ‘friends’, but I really love watching their relationship grow in unexpected ways.
My next note will be on Kamino vs. Heroes:Rising.

002|| Sasuke XD
Well, I wasn’t expecting Sausage but I have A LOT to say about him. So thank you @toxicdeathboy this is going to be fun, at least for me.
How I feel about this character:
Even though this isn’t even the most problematic out of all the points to answer in this list but I got to say I feel quite conflicted with Sasuke.
Unlike many people that saw Naruto since they were toddlers and grew in parallel to this anime I watched it when I was quite older, more exactly when I was sixteen. So yeah, that framed a lot my perspective a Sasuke and how I view his character (and takes away the nostalgia factor of having watched the show all your life)
At the beginning of the anime Sasuke was in within my top favorite characters. He was just a cool smart-ass, an almost stereotypical fuck-boy but that had some depth in him: a clear moral conduct, a genuine care for his team mates and abilities that not only made him look incredible but that also where backed up by logic and didn’t break the manga apart (yeah!). And although Sasuke little by little started falling in the charts either because of  new characters appearing and basically dominating the higher positions or because of little things that surrounded the character that I wasn’t completely fond of (like every character except from Hinata automatically falling for him or being obsessed with him, or getting help either from the script of other characters whenever he was in real trouble) I still appreciated his character.
He is a well-written character I can deny that but there was one moment that throw me completely off. (What I am going to say following this is completely subjective and can be discussed so if you got another opinion I would love to hear it, just a disclaimer because it maybe sounds way to harsh)
In the middle of the Fourth Great Ninja War, Sasuke is reunited with Itachi. That was a pretty good moment, filled up with emotions in with Sasuke is finally able to understand the intentions behind his brother’s acts. He finally understands that everything he had done was to protect both Konoha and him, that he had basically lived a man of criminal in order to protect the integrity of them both. So what did Sasuke decide to do? A revolution through which he’ll destroy himself and Konoha.
Did I missed something?
That would make completely sense if he hadn’t met Itachi and therefore stayed in the same psycho-mode as he was but it’s completely nonsense that after being talked down by Itachi and learning everything he still decided to do that. In my point of view this completely broke the consistency in his characterization and hence, generated my conflicted feelings towards him.
On the one hand we have a composed, serious and consistent Sasuke with almost every appearance he has is f***ing cool and that has logical drives and it’s heavily positive input in his manga/anime. On the other hand we have a completely illogical Sasuke that basically only says he is going to have a revolution because Kishimoto needed an excuse to have his fight against Naruto being the end of the manga and a Sasuke which is highly favored by his author.
Hence the word conflicted being the best word I can choose. Sometimes I like him a lot, sometimes I dislike him a lot. I can’t decide on one.
All the people I ship romantically with this character:
Shipping and Sasuke. Like, Sasuke was so obsessed by revenge, specially during the whole of Shippuden, that I can hardly say I genuinely ship him with almost anyone, nor I cared that much. Sasuke x Revenge and Naruto x Ramen are clear OTPs that no one can deny.
Well getting a little bit more serious I’ll try to dive a little bit into each ship that I had considered during my experience in the fandom:
Sasuke x Sakura: To be  honest I was almost  100% spoiled of every mayor event in the anime before starting to read it. Thanks, brother. You call it, Jiraiya’s Death, checked. Minato and Kushina being Naruto’s parents, checked. Tobi being Obito, checked. And so I was spoiled both NaruHina and SasuSaku. So when I first started to see the series I was looking forward to see both of this relationships developed. Unluckily I didn’t got that much. But I got to say I  liked the idea of a possible relationship developing between Sasuke and Sakura during Part I, where a grown-up Sakura’s feelings will develop from obsession to a genuine care and Sasuke will open up to her. But none of this happened and then all absolutely fell into pieces in Part II when Sasuke almost killed her. That in my world is a big no, and despite I like their interactions in Boruto and I genuinely ship them in this period of time as they seem to have an honest feeling towards each other. However, I can’t get behind that he did almost killed her (despite Sasuke being in a state of mind that we can hardly call sane) so I ship them but not that much.
Sasuke x Anyone from Team Taka: I could easily ship them with anyone from the Team, despite I don’t have a particular interest over any other romantic pairing in particular. I think that with anyone of them, given a little more of development could have made a good pairing for Sasuke since they show a great care for him and their friendship even when they didn’t necessarily needed to. Beside that, I don’t have that much to say and repeating more or less the same things for Karin, Suigetsu and Jugo just seemed to match.
Sasuke x Ino: I just like who their personality match at the end of their respective arcs all through Naruto Shippuden with a mature and calm Sasuke and a caring and witty Ino. However there’s little to no evidence of Sasuke even caring for Ino so I can only see it as more of a crack ship.
My non-romantic OTP for this character:
Naruto x Sasuke: I know everyone sees incredibly romantic undertones between them, and you’re probably right, I just don’t see it. I see them more as they would feel the void of the family they had lost acting as each others brother. They compete, they help and they relate to each other (in my point of view) more as brothers than as lovers.
My unpopular opinion about this character:
If what said in before wasn’t already unpopular enough (I think it already was) I have another one that I think it’s even more unpopular.
I don’t find Sasuke THAT attractive, physically speaking.
I mean he is just a good-looking person, nothing less and nothing more.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: My OTP:
Duh, Sasuke x Revange.
Well I’m sorry I can hardly think of which ship I prefer over the other. I can really have an OTP for this character but if I got to say one it’ll probably NaruSasu, like idk. This is hard. It’s completely irrational since I have just explained why I don’t view them in a ‘romantic way’ but if I got to stay with the most significant relationship of Sasuke that got to be his bond with Naruto. I have no doubts of that.
My Cross Over Ship:
You got no idea how long I been thinking about this.
This might be a little weird, specially considering that I had already made a post  comparing her to a Naruto character which I could never ship with Sasuke but I think it would be interesting to see her with Kagura of InuYasha.
I really would like to see Sasuke with someone who is able to match him in his own game. Someone that is also mature, calculating, confident and that won’t let him manipulate her while still having a softer side. Or maybe is just because I like female characters like this and I am just tricking myself into believe this will work. So, yes, I genuinely don’t know who this would work but I consider it’ll be nonetheless intriguing.
A Headcanon Fact:
Sasuke is a proficient writer and has a notebook in which tends to write while he is on his journeys across the continent. He usually writes more whenever he misses his home, his friends or family. No one knows what he writes in there, not even Sakura as he is too ashamed to show them. Maybe too personal?

Well here you got it. Late in better than never. Thanks again for the ask. I am sure this is not what you wanted but Sasuke is quite a problematic for me to analyze and write about but I hope that at least it was somewhat entertaining.  Have a nice day!
