Better Left Alone part 2
blood cw kinda, gore cw kinda,   part 1 here  part 3 here
Theres hands touching him, turning him? He’s not sure of anything other then than the pain. “Be careful! don’t move him, if you move him you could make it worse!”. Voices. Loud and muffled at the same time like trying to listen through the bottom of a lake. “If we don’t do something now, he’s going to die. Hunk, help Coran. Pidge-”
Lance stops listening at that point. Someone is touching him again, all he can register is the pain. It’s horrible, ripping through him like bullets in his veins. He cant move but he can feel everything. The wind rushing through the wound in his stomach. The pain spreading out from it is unbearable, like hammers ripping through his flesh, pulling out the nails.
He never once in his life thought he’d know what it was like to feel air blowing against his organs but here they were, exposed and bleeding profusely. He is going to die here and his friends are going to have to see it, they’re going to have to see the life leave his eyes. He could feel his conscious slipping again. Someone was yelling but he couldn’t make it out in the haze, everything is going dark.
He can feel himself waking slowly, confused. The crypods doors open and he’s falling into arms. Before Lance can register what is happening his eyes widen, panic filling him quickly, he falls back. “Shiro!”, he shouts it, looking around frantically. “Where is he? he’s-” memories are flooding him. Shiro is gone. was never here, not really. He can hear the blood rushing through his ears, pounding. The sound of someone telling him to calm down, breath. Do they not realize the situation they’re in? He’s panicking.
There’s a steadying hand on his back and the person commands him to breath again. He can’t do anything if he doesn’t, the room is already spinning so he breaths.   In.    Out.     In.     Out.   Slower and slower each time until he’s breathing at a steady pace again.
Lance takes a moment to assess his surroundings, to catch back up to reality. He just came out of a cryopod. Hunk is helping hold him up, Coran is rubbing his back patiently, an encouraging smile on his face. Allura is standing in front of him clearly worried, wringing her hands. Pidge isn’t any better though they’re trying to hide it, feigning an annoyed look. The black lion is gone, and how is he alive?
“How am I alive?”. Hunk blanched, coran started coughing. He didn’t mean to be so blunt but, what? What? “I was sure I was a goner. I felt my, you know-” Lance made a vague gesture towards his stomach “Falling out,”.
"Well, my boy. You were in quite the state! We couldn’t move you right away  because as you uh, implied gesturally your organs weren’t stable! The cryopods can fix the damage but it can’t recreate these things! Luckily for you, this old altean does have some good experience dealing with wounds. I had Hunk here go fetch the medical equipment I needed so I could stitch you right up and get you in this baby right away!”.
Coran said everything with such enthusasim, gesturing wildly but it was clear he was leaving things out. Lance doubted just stitching him up would be enough especially with the look on hunks face, who was clearly trying not to gag at the memory, but he wasn’t an alien doctor with magical healing pods so what does he know?
Hunk frowned “We were really worried about you, buddy. When we got there there was so much blood everywhere, I thought-” He cuts the thought off. “I’m really glad you’re okay,” he said looking ready to cry, Pulling on all of lance’s heart strings. Before Lance could respond Pidge punched him softly in the arm.
“Yeah, idiot! you can’t go dying on us like that who’s going to take care of Ketlenecker, and taste test all of Hunks weird concoctions!”. Pidge’s face said more then their words, the anxiety and fear still there. “Aww, Pidge! You really do care!” lance laughed.
Hunk couldn’t contain himself anymore he started crying loudly picking both Pidge and Lance up in a tight hug. “I love you guys so much!,” he cried loudly. Lance laughed patting hunk on the arm with his free one. “We love you too, big guy!”. his laughter only growing as Coran threw himself into the hug.
Allura smiled softly at the scene in front of her. They deserved this moment after everything. Even with the cryopods it was questionable whether or not Lance would make it for the first hour or two. It was terrifying for all of them, having no idea if they were going to lose their friend with no way of knowing how he came to be in that state. They really did deserve this, and she hated to interrupt, but there were pressing matters at hand that have to be addressed.
She coughed loudly in her hand succeeding in getting their attention as three heads snapped to her direction. Hunk let go of the two, sensing the change in the atmosphere. "Lance, I’m sorry, but Shiro is gone and so is The black lion. You were attacked in the hanger. Do you remember what happened?,” Allura asked.
His face paled and he looked away from her, rubbing the back of his neck. It’s a nervous habit he wishes he could stop but he’s never been the best at self control when it comes to that type of thing. “Yeah, I remember,” He remembers everything. It makes it hard to breath. The more he thinks about it the more panicked he gets. He doesn’t understand why he’s reacting like this he’s not in danger anymore but it’s like it’s happening all over again.
It must be written on his face because Coran laid a hand on his shoulder, offering a reassuring smile. He gave a weak one in return hoping Coran understood how much he appreciates it. “It was Shiro,” Alluras face filled with shock and confusion. “What do you mean, “”it was shiro””?” .
Lance let out a huff of breath, resisting the urge to avoid her eyes. “Shiro attacked me. only, it wasn’t really Shiro. Hasn’t been for awhile I think,” He paused, considering how he wanted to say this. “I think when we found Shiro it wasn’t Shiro. Like a clone made to think like Shiro or maybe he was being mind controlled I’m not sure on the specifics. All I know is that definitely was not our shiro,” he said firmly.
Allura shook her head, reeling. She walked over to the couch needing to sit down, everyone following behind her to take their own seats. “While I agree there is no way our Shiro would ever do something like this why do you think he must be a clone or that this has been going on for awhile? What exactly happened down there?”.
Lance bit his lip, and ran a hand through his hair. Ah fidgeting, the tried and true friend. “He’s been weird lately, which okay, I know sounds stupid and he was abducted again so he had every right to be weird and snappy but I have a point,” He said before anyone could interrupt him.
“When we all had to go on the astral plain he was calling to me. I couldn’t make out what he was saying, but he looked desperate. I asked him about it but he didn’t remember a thing. He told me later that he doesn’t feel like himself. It made me think about the way he’s been acting, and I started to wonder. I’ve heard haggar can do a lot of horrible things, right? What if she could make a clone or mind control?”.
Allura nodded. “Haggar has great power if it’s possible than unfortunately I believe she’d be the one to find a way, but how did that get us here and how is he able to fly the black lion?” A blush colored Lance’s cheeks as he looked away. “Lance, what did you do?” Pidge said accusation clear in their voice.
“I didn’t do anything!” he cried out, throwing his hands up. “I just maybe, sort of, asked him if he knew anything about Haggar and clones and mind control,” he trailed off quietly. the look of pure exasperation from Pidge was clear so he continued before they could say anything. “How was I supposed to know he was going to try and murder me? I expected at max some serious suspicion not “”it’s murder time!”!”
Pidge let out a huff of a laugh. “I guess I can’t blame you. Still, it was stupid to do that alone. Why didn’t you just tell one of us?”
“I didn’t really think you guys would believe me,” he said with a shrug. It was true and they felt it. They would tell him he’s being paranoid and to calm down. That Shiro was just adjusting. Allura sighed leaning forward. “You’re right. As my paladin, it’s my responsibility to listen to your concerns. I apologize for making you feel like I wouldn’t. I want you to know you can come to me about anything, lance, I’m here for you,” she said with conviction, hoping Lance would trust her.
“Still,” she paused. “If that wasn’t Shiro then that begs the question, what was this impostor doing?” she crossed her legs, tapping her knee. “If he just wanted to wipe out Voltron he had ample opportunity and clearly had the means,” she said nodding towards lance as if it wasn’t clear. “Maybe he was trying to get our information on the rebellion, find all of their hideouts and learn our weakness?,” Pidge suggested.
“And the Blade Of Marmora. Why take out one or two parts when you can get rid of the whole thing?,” Lance added. Allura nodded her agreement “That’s definitely a possibility but it doesn’t change that we’re missing a paladin and a lion. If Haggar has her claws in Shiro then that most likely means they already have The black lion. We have to find out where they are and act immediately. The longer they have access to the black lion the more dangerous it is, and we must find our Shiro.”

Master of the Dark Arts*
We can see it now, the wizards at The Dark Arts company, those Masters of Make-up Art trawling through their ancient book of spells to come up with creative concoctions of congealing bloods and mixing lotions and potions to create what we think are simply spellbinding SFX products.
Chanting “Double, double, blood and trouble; Fire burn, and wound gel bubble“ over their cauldrons of blood (no eye of newts were harmed in the making) and guts, those SFX sorcerers have come up with a brilliant range of bloods in three great colours, that are pigment perfect across the range. So from a Slow Flow blood to a Slash and Stay blood you know you are getting colour consistency throughout, perfect for continuity.
The Dark Arts Company were so kind as to send out a range for us at The Mill to try. We had imagined the delivery man may turn up on a broomstick but sadly it was just DPD at the door, although it was truly magical to receive such an array of bloods for us to review.  See below for our in depth delve into the dark underworld of The Dark Arts new blood range :
Spray Gel Blood :- This is a marvel of make-up magic if we have ever seen one! A blood that has a thick gel consistency, that you can spray and it stays...it sounds like witchcraft to us. This gel blood is a totally new texture in the world of bloods and is great for creating very large areas of gore quickly. We love it for brain matter spatter!
Contour Gel Blood:- A lovely wound filler that has a great pliable texture for filling wounds and adding depth. We also really like it to create smears of blood across the skin, for example from an old nose bleed and scuffs on the knuckles as the gel it bends with the skin without cracking.
Form Gel Blood:- This is a great alternative to directly applied 2 part silicones for creating super quick 3d blood effects. It is malleable enough to mould into shape, but firm enough to stay put. Great for very quick out of the kit wounds. We love putting a little of the Contour Gel Blood on top to really flesh out the wounds.
Fast Flow Blood:- Want the perfect nose bleed? Want the perfect bleed out all over the kitchen floor? Want blood to gush from the wound? Look no further than fast flow blood. Quicker than the speed of light this blood and Usain Bolt put together this blood flows like Niagara falls, for those nose bleed effects that come out of no where! It dries slowly which is wonderful for real time continuity and the blood stays looking fresh for longer. It smears brilliantly in hair as-well and keeps looking wet, great for reset times.
Mid Flow Blood:- Take it easy, sit back and relax as you unwind...hold on this isn't a spa day we are talking about. The mid flow blood is a great blood that gives a little grab and resists, where you want a trickle of blood rather than a torrent. It dries in minutes so its perfect for those wounds that are a little less than fresh.
Slow Flow- This has a more gel like texture but still has some movement to it, it is lovely in larger wounds and sits great on silicone too. It dries like congealing blood and stays well. What we love about all the flows is you can now control the speed of the blood, something that was all guess work or required a blood rig!
Spray and Stay :- This more for those arty farty art department folks but we at The Mill couldn't leave it out of our review, we love spray bloods but often find it hard to get a good spray blood that doesn't clog up in the nozzle after one use. Or when you make your own and thin it down with water you loose a lot of the texture and colour of the blood itself. Not with Spray and Stay, the colour is true to what it says on the tin and there is a strong colour pay off. It becomes rub proof on contact but will wipe away too.
Slash and Spray :- Another liquid blood but its truly like no other. You will never have to worry again when it comes to blood rigs clogging mid take as this blood does not contain any sugar syrup and does not have to be thinned down to get through tricky tubing. It comes in three great colours for all types of rigs or you can leave it in the handy spray pump bottle provided!
We at The Mill think that the Dark Arts Company definitely have us spellbound by this new blood range. It is also really affordable and we love the variety yet clarity that having three set shades offers. Our favourite has to be the Fast Flo blood, we love how it dries and how fast it moves! There is definitely something magical about this range and we cant wait to see what other tricks the DAC have up their sleeves!

What You Can Do Right Now To Stop Trump’s Dangerous Climate Agenda
We don’t know much about what climate policy might look like under President-elect Donald Trump, but what we do know isn’t very encouraging. Trump has called global warming a hoax and vowed to reinvigorate the fossil fuel industry, “cancel” the Paris Climate Agreement and ditch the Clean Power Plan.
Former Vice President Al Gore warned in October that electing Trump could “take us toward a climate catastrophe.” And then Gore met with Trump and his daughter Ivanka this week a conversation Gore called “extremely interesting” creating the prospects that the president-elect might not be as hostile to climate change as he has indicated.
He has since announced Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, who has blamed environmental regulations and defended fossil fuel interests, as his pick to head the Environmental Protection Agency.
But people who are concerned about climate change shouldn’t lose hope merely because the incoming chairman is wishy-washy on such issues. “Remember, most of the world is aligned against climate change even if the future occupant of the White House doesn’t want to recognize reality, ” Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club, told The Huffington Post.
As 2 degrees Celsius looms ever closer the temperature increase scientists say the world must stay below to avoid the worst effects of climate change there is a lot that individuals, organizations, cities and nations can, and must, do to battle climate change over the next four years.
“As consumers, as investors, in schools, in workplaces, at churches, synagogues or other places of venerate, there are lots of positive ways to impact change for the climate, ” Brune said. “We’re going to have to give the president-elect the struggle of his life.”
Here are some things you and your community can do TAGEND
1 Strengthen city, district and state climate efforts
Eduardo Munoz/ Reuters
If the federal government refuses to stand up against climate change, itll be more important than ever for cities, counties and states to pick up the slack and become climate leaders. That entails committing to divest from fossil fuel, embrace clean energy, defined emissions targets and develop climate action plans, among other measures.
The ominous signals coming out of D.C. point to even more work be necessary for the city and state level, said Kate Kiely, information media deputy director at the Natural Resources Defense Council. In November, the NRDC announced the partnership agreement with 20 cities across the country from St. Paul, Minnesota, to Houston, Texas, to make strides in renewable energy.
According to Brune, cities could havean especially big influencein the climate change fight. We should be pushing cities to go 100 percentage clean energy and to repudiate natural gas and coal and other fossil fuel, he said. A majority of people now live in cities, so this could have a dramatic impact.
In the U.S ., 20 cities have already constructed commitments to rely wholly on clean energy.
People should organize and get their own cities has progressed, Brune said.
Contact your mayor, city council, or district or state representative and get them to set a timeline to stop usingfossil fuels.
2 Push companies and organizations to divest from fossil fuels

There are a lot of things that the president cant undo. He cant stop the fact that solar and gust are cheaper than coal and gas. He cant change the fact that dozens of businesses have already committed to clean energy, Brune said.
As of December, more than 640 organizations worldwide, including several universities, churches and for-profit companies and banks, have pledged to divest from their fossil fuel investments. According to Go Fossil Free, a 350. org campaign, the commitments amount to more than $ 3.4 trillion.
Consumers should petition companies to ditch their fossil fuel investments, and students should urge their schools and colleges to do the same.
As we wrap up the most wonderful year in history, we know that investments in the fossil fuel industry money these climate impacts. Thats why its more critical than ever that we push our institutions to divest from the fossil fuel companies that are knowingly perpetuating the climate crisis, Lindsay Meiman, U.S. communications coordinator for 350. org, told HuffPost last week.
Want to push a company, school or place of worship to divest from fossil fuel? 350. org has a list of resources to help you start a campaign. Or find an existing one to get involved in.
3 Put your fund where your mouth is
Andrew Burton/ Getty Images
Petitions and protests can be powerful, but moving your fund speaks volumes too. As a consumer and as an investor, ensure you’re not personally financing climate change. This entails, for example, selecting banks that are free of fossil fuel connections.
Your ATM card or checking account or your mortgage, these should not be financed by companies that are taking your checking fees or other payments to subsidize the Dakota Access Pipeline or finance drilling offshore. Construct sure your fund aligns with your values, Brune said.
In September, Amalgamated Bank became the first North American bank to commit to divest 100 percentage from fossil fuel. Aspiration has bank accounts the hell is fossil fuel-free, and Beneficial State Bank has credit card that dont invest in fossil fuels.
Anthony Hobley, CEO of the Carbon Tracker Initiative, said consumers should also ensure that their pensions, 401( k) or other retirement savings accounts are similarly not underwriting fossil fuel companies.
A lot of pressure can be made through the financial industry, Hobley said from London. Ordinary people who hold pensions can put pressure on companies through their pensions. Put pressure on the ones who manage your fund and thats one way to keep pressure on those companies too.
The financial services companies that manage retirement accounts arent used to getting many letters from the people whose fund they manage, Hobley added. It wouldnt take much of an organized attempt in order to be allowed to take notice.
Are your investments supportingfossil fuels? FossilFreeFunds.orgis a web tool that allows people to check whether their individual investments or employer-provided 401( k) issupporting coal companies, oil and gas producers, and fossil-fired utilities.
4 Making a “financial case” for clean energy
Aaron Bernstein/ Reuters
Hobley believes the best chance we have ofconvincing Trump to care about climate change is to make a compelling financial instance for renewables.
With new clean energy technologies getting more efficient and cheaper than fossil fuel, a transition to renewables is inevitable, said Hobley. Its merely a matter of time.
Trump can no more stop this transition than a previous U.S. chairman couldve stopped the transition from steam locomotives to the vehicle or the typewriter to the computer. The technological genie is already out of the purse, he said. Its not a instance of if, but when. But the when is important because of the 2 degrees budget, and thats where a lack of political leadership or resistance can have a real impact.
Clear political leadership from both the U.S. and China could entail a “smoother” and faster transition to clean energy. A absence thereof, however, could make it easier for big oil and gas companies to stay in denial and that would be to their detriment, Hobley said. It would entail pouring more fund, billions or trillions of dollars, into fossil fuel assets that we simply dont need.
Trump currently has the opportunity to attain the United States a leader in clean energy.
These are complicated and highly technical products, Hobley said. With an trained and skilled labour force, these are the kinds of things that should be manufactured in the U.S.
Creating new jobs was a central part of Trumps election platform. Maybe someone should remind him that the clean energy industry makes more undertakings per unit of energy than coal and natural gas. Last year, the number of U.S. employment opportunities in solar energy overtook those in oil and natural gas extraction for the very first time.
A 2015 reportbyNextGen Climate America found that a transition to clean energy would add a million jobs by 2030 and up to 2 million jobs by 2050, while increasing the nation’s gross domestic productby $290 billion and boostinghousehold income.
Weshould be quoting such figures and urging utility companies and public utility commissions to espouse clean energy.( Public utility commissions regularly hold hearings that are open to the public. Attend them, and voice your thoughts !)
5 Speak out!
Pacific Press/ Getty Images
Whats the single biggest way you can influenceclimate change? According to the NRDC, its speaking up.
Talk to your friends and family, and make sure your representatives are making good decisions, Aliya Haq, deputy director of NRDCs Clean Power Plan Initiative, wrote in a blog post. The main reason elected officials do anything difficult is because their constituents attain them.
In the coming months and years, there will be mass mobilizations that folks should join to push back against Trumps regressive policies and hateful rhetoric, said 350. orgs Meiman. Folks can engage online by joining online actions, signing petitions and contributing their voice on social media to push back on Trumps agenda.
You can alsoparticipate in protests in yourarea or join and support local nonprofits in theirfight against climate change.
6 Reduce your own carbon footprint
Hinterhaus Productions/ Getty Images
Power your own home with renewable energy, invest in energy-efficient gadgets and lightbulbs, and recollect to weatherize.
Building heating and cooling are among the biggest uses of energy, said NRDCs Haq. Construct your home more energy-efficient by sealing drafts and ensuring your home is adequately insulated and ventilated too.
Also consider changing your diet. Cut down on meat intake or even eliminate it from your diet wholly, Brune said. I do think that people can have a powerful impact on the environment merely by feeing less meat.
It takes 14 days as much biologically productive land to create 1 ton of beef as it takes to produce 1 ton of grain, according tothe Global Footprint Network.
Global livestock is also responsible for 9 percentage of all anthropogenic carbon emissions, data fromthe United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organizationshow.
Driving a fuel-efficient vehicle is another way to reduce your carbon footprint. You can also take steps to be more fuel efficient when you’re on the road , no matter what vehicle you drive.
7 Support environmental journalism
Jewel Samad/ Getty Images
A majorshortcoming of journalistsduring the presidential election was theirfailureto highlight climate change as a vital topic and to force Trump( and Hillary Clinton, too) to address this crisis.
Over the next four years, Trump needs to be held accountable, and the press must make climate change a central question in his presidency.
The Society of Environmental Journalists, a nonprofit membership organisation supporting environmental the reporters in the U.S. and around the world, aims to improve the quality, accuracy and visibility of reporting on the environment. You can also support nonprofit environmental news outlets such asInside Climate, Gristand High Country News.
Hannah McKay/ Reuters A man wearing a Trump mask protests during a demo against climate change outside the U.S. Embassy in Londonin November.
There is certainly reason to worry about what a Trump presidency could mean for countries around the world.
But as Gore reminds us, worrying isn’t doing the Earth any favors. “There is no time to hopelessnes, ” Gore told The Guardian on Monday. “We don’t have time to lick our meanders, to hope for a different election outcome.”
In homes, at schools, in cities and in nations across the country, people need to act and act now.
“We have to win this struggle and we will win it; the only question is how fast we win, ” Gore said. “But more damage is baked into the climate system every day, so it’s a race against time.”
