OVERVIEW: ""Check Your Head," the new record from rap's most innovative trio, will be released April 13th. The follow-up to the BEASTIE BOYS acknowledged masterpiece "Paul's Boutique," "Check Your Head" will astonish each and every contemporary music fan. First off, group members Mike D., MCA, and Ad-Rock have returned to their musical roots -- 70% of the album's music, a stunning array of styles including Funkadelicized fuzz bass riffs, slinky guitar-propelled reggae, and straight-up hardcore punk, is played by the Beasties, seamlessly blended with off-the-wall sampled tidbits. Looping their own dusted-out riffs, the Beastie Boys have taken sampling to its logical conclusion. The self-produced Check Your Head's exploitation of new and old music sources could well be the most radical to date.

"Apart from three diverse instrumentals ("Pow," "Groove Holmes," and "In 3's") that make up the 20 song set, the group gets on the mic to flaunt superior rhyming skills, frantic scratching, and the fattest keyboards this side of Jimmy Smith. Such old-school flavored jams as "Pass The Mic," "Finger Lickin'," and "What'cha Want" shred in an entirely new way, suggesting some unexplored netherland between The Minutemen and Spoonie G; "Time For Livin'," a hardcore punk tune harkening back to the group's Lower End Side origins, sounds as fresh as the Boys' whisper-sung vocals on "Mark On The Bus," the rootsy "Lighten Up," and the acid-soaked "Something's Got To Give." Keep an eye out for the obligatory Biz Markie cameo, "The Biz vs. The Nuge." Each song on Check Your Head speaks volumes. Loudly."

Beastie Boys, el grupo que introdujo a la escena del Hip Hop conceptos como Rapcore, Rap rock y Rap alternativo fue formado en 1981 y estaba compuesto originalmente por Mike D (Michael Diamond), MCA (Adam Yauch) y Ad-Rock (Adam Horovitz). 

El álbum "Check Your Head" fue lanzado hoy 21 de abril de 1992 y fue el tercer álbum de estudio de Beastie Boys. El álbum fue producido por el grupo y fue una desviación de su sonido anterior, que se centraba principalmente en el Rap. En cambio, "Check Your Head" incluyó una mezcla de géneros musicales, como el rock, el funk y el punk, y presentó a los miembros del grupo tocando instrumentos en vivo.

El álbum fue un éxito comercial y recibió críticas positivas. Fue certificado platino por la RIAA y ha sido incluido en varias listas de los mejores álbumes de la década de 1990.

En cuanto al rap en 1992, fue un año importante para el género. Muchos artistas de hip hop lanzaron álbumes aclamados por la crítica, incluyendo "The Chronic" de Dr. Dre, "Stunts, Blunts & Hip Hop" de Diamond D y "Daily Operation" de Gang Starr, por poner algunos de ejemplo. También fue el año en que se lanzó la película "Juice", que presentaba a Tupac Shakur en su primer papel importante en el cine.

Check Your Head fue lanzado tres años después del segundo álbum, Paul's Boutique; el disco fue grabado en el G-Son Studios en Atwater Village en 1991 bajo la dirección del productor Mario Caldato Jr., el tercer productor del grupo. Con menos samples que sus discos anteriores, el álbum presenta contribuciones instrumentales de los tres miembros: Adam Horovitz en la guitarra, Adam Yauch en el bajo y Mike Diamond en la batería.

El álbum fue relanzado en varios formatos, es uno de los álbumes descritos en el libro de 2007 Check the Technique, que incluye un desglose pista por pista de Diamond, Yauch, Horovitz, Caldato y el frecuente colaborador de Beasties, Money Mark.

El álbum marcó la primera aparición del teclista Money Mark, quien se convirtió en colaborador habitual de la banda y se considera un regreso de los Beastie Boys a sus raíces punk. En la caratula se presentan fotos del artista Glen E. Friedman de los Beasties.

Conto con 5 sencillos Pass the Mic, So What'cha Want,  Jimmy James, Gratitude y Professor Booty. Alcanzó el puesto 74 en la lista Australian Albums (ARIA), el puesto 10 en US Billboard 200 y el 37 en US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (Billboard).

Frank Sinatra – Too Marvelous for Words

(link za pjesmu) Album broj 7/1001. Hajde da istražimo kakva je veza između ljubavnih stihova o nekome ko je pre-čudesan za riječi i nekih starih rječnika.

Ako je prvi album Frenka Sinatre koji se nalazi na ovoj listi od 1001-og albuma koje morate čuti, In the Wee Small Hours, bio posvećen baladama i propaloj ljubavi, ovaj album iz 1956. godine, Songs for Swingin’ Lovers,  je pun poletnih pjesama u kojima se slavi radost života i pozitivna energija koja dolazi iz magične zaljubljenosti. Kao i za prethodni Sinatrin album, pjesme (nijedan orginial, sve su već ranije objavljivane) je aranžirao genije orkestracije, Nelson Riddle. Sve je savršeno prepakovao u sving stilu, koji se do tada uspješno transformisao iz plesne big band džez muzike i na velika vrata ušao u svijet pop muzike. Pjesmu Too Marvelous for Words (Suviše čudesna za riječi), o djevojci čija se ljepota ne može opisati riječima, Frenk počinje veoma ležerno, orkestar ga u stopu prati, nastavlja malo dinamičnije da bi je zajedno sa orkestrom sa kojim se savršeno spojio, završio furiozono, na starinski način, kako i priliči maestru.

Ovu pjesmu sam izdvojio i zbog jedne lične asocijacije vezane za stihove „... Ti si puno, previše, i jednostavno, veoma, veoma/ Da ikada budeš u Vebsterovom rječniku...“ Moja majka je bila profesorica engleskog jezika i po kući su nam se uvijek motali neki rječnici, i njene druge stručne knjige. Od svega toga mene je privlačila jedna velika, debela, knjižurina sa tvrdim koricama koju sam povremeno prelistavao: Vebsterov rječnik. Bio je specifičan po dvije stvari: na svakoj stranici je imao po neku ilustraciju za riječ koju objašnjava i za svako slovo postajalo je udubljenje, polukružni izrez, tako da si lako mogao da dođeš do početnog slova riječi koju tražiš. Dušu dalo za radoznale istraživačke prste da listaju i prevrću stranice do mile volje. Ovi rječnici američkog engleskog su se pojavili negdje početkom 19. vijeka, i ostali do dana današnjeg veoma popularni. Majke već odavno nema, rječnik skuplja prašinu na polici već više decenija (mislim da je danas prvi put otvoren poslije više od 30 godina – slike priključene ovom postu) a ja se prisjećam nekih davnih dana djetinjstva.

Da se vratim na ovu pjesmu koja odmah nakon spominjanja Vebsterovog rječnika, nastavlja sa: „...  I tako pozajmljujem ljubavnu pjesmu od ptica/ Da ti kažem da si predivna/ Suviše čudesna za riječi“. Ko zna, možda bi ovi stihovi mogli da se upotrijebe kad sljedeći put pokušate da na neki novi način kažete nekome koliko vam znači.

Their first album "Road to A" was released on January 19 on Capitol Records in the U.S. And “Road to A - Global Edition", which has all English lyrics, will be released on February 12. "20/20" es el segundo álbum de estudio del grupo de Dilated Peoples (Evidence, Rakaa Iriscience & DJ Babu) lanzado hoy 21 de febrero el año 2006 bajo el sello discografico Capitol Records. El álbum cuenta con la colaboración de varios artistas, incluyendo a Dr. Greenthumb aka B-Real, Defari, Talib Kweli, Krondon y Capleton. La producción del álbum estuvo a cargo de renombrados productores como Alchemist y Sid Roams ademas de los integrantes Evidence y DJ Babu.

Dilated Peoples es un grupo de rap de Los Ángeles, California, formado en 1992, son conocidos por su estilo Underground y sus líricas conscientes. Han lanzado varios álbumes aclamados por la crítica y han colaborado con otros artistas de renombre en la escena del rap. En el año 2006, cuando se lanzó "20/20", el rap estaba en auge en Los Ángeles. El sonido del rap en la costa oeste se estaba alejando del gangsta rap de los años 90 y estaba abriéndose a nuevas influencias y colaboraciones. El álbum de Dilated Peoples fue un éxito en la escena underground del rap y ayudó a establecer al grupo como uno de los más destacados de la escena Hip-Hop de Los Ángeles. "20/20" es un álbum que aborda temas sociales y políticos, como la discriminación racial y la desigualdad económica. Las líricas son complejas y cargadas de significado, mientras que la producción es innovadora y rica en texturas.

Tras las críticas mixtas de su álbum de 2004 Neighborhood Watch, el grupo pudo recuperar parte de su éxito pasado con 20/20, pero no al nivel de sus dos primeros albums, The Platform y Expansion Team. El sencillo principal del álbum, "Back Again", no pudo tener un fuerte impacto, en parte debido a que MTV se negó a reproducir el video, debido a una escena en la que Rakaa usa un chaleco antibalas. Back Again aparece en el videojuego de EA Sports Fight Night Round 3 y el videojuego de Sony Computer Entertainment MLB 06: The Show.
