Omg can I ask to know more about your pirate ocs? They're lovely 🥺🤲🤲🤲
Thank you for asking omg!! I love OC questions. Right now the pirate crew ocs are still just little mullings in my head as I work - some of them more fleshed out than others.
What I do have down pretty solid is their ship name and time period - Moon Swallower, late 1600s. It's a references to the Bakunawa, a serpent from certain mythologies in the Philippines that's set out to eat the moon for reasons that can vary depending on who's telling the story. The crew originally sailed about South East Asia, but later moved to waters around the Caribbean and North America's east coast. It's why a lot of the older crew members are SEA or Southern Chinese (Lintang, Liwliwa, Bato, Zhao, Hai) and the newer additions/younger crew range differently.
The running theme for the story is vengeance and closure, though everyone aboard the Moon Swallower has a different approach to it. Atm I'm fleshing out the captain's story and personality since it seems a good place to start. Lintang claims to be a ghost of revenge, and wants to wipe imperialists off the map. She's a soft spoken tactician and unbending in will or mercy.
Expanding out from her I've taken a shine to the first mate Liwliwa and the young Orisa. I'm not tooooo sure on their exact backstories yet, but I do know the dynamics between them and the captain. Liwliwa suffered a life similar to Lintang and acts as her mouthpiece to the crew, however, where Lintang is reserved and controlled Liwliwa is painfully heart-on-sleeve and in search of guidance. Orisa is Lintang's daughter picked from a bad situation in a port. Orisa is afraid of her own face, but confident in her lucks and skills. She grows from a quietly sorrowful child to a loud and frequent laugher.

SteveTony Weekly - December 10th
Tumblr media
Here’s a very short list because it’s been a very busy week. Enjoy and be sure to leave your author comment and kudos.
Triple-A Rated by iam93percentstardust
Three assassination attempts in two weeks. That's gotta be some kind of record. Three attempts - and that doesn't even count the Ten Rings. Tony's pretty sure that Stane's trying to kill him again. Fury's pretty sure of the same thing, which is why he starts sending agents to protect him. It's just that Tony doesn't like any of his new bodyguards - except one.
Do-Over by gottalovev
Steve woke up six months ago into a future that leaves him indifferent. There is work, and not much else. His current mission is a basic search and rescue operation to retrieve an American who was kidnapped by a terrorist group ten days ago. He won't let the fact that the hostage is Howard's son be a distraction.
From The Ground Up by thatsweetmysteryoflife
The first time Steve had seen Tony Stark since SHIELD had fallen, he was on TV.
Or, how a team became a family, and friendship became love.
Unsaid words by Herogers
And he was moving on.. well, he was getting on with it. It was fine, really.
Well, at least he felt fine, until he saw Tony for the first time in years and the words felt like they were scraping their way up from his chest, begging to be let out.. He was fine. This is work, this is for something more than him, more than both of them. So if the sight of those honey brown eyes piercing through his blues were almost nauseating.. It had to be fine.
Zero to One by magicasen
Steve returns the Stones, comes back to 2023, names Sam the successor to Captain America, and sets off on his bike. Life is transient, and grief is all-encompassing, until Steve starts dreaming of Tony every night.
Truths and Roses Have Thorns About Them by FestiveFerret
Steve has a secret. And then he makes a poorly-timed joke to a reporter, and suddenly he has two secrets.
One: He's in love with his best friend.
Two: Despite what the press thinks, they're not actually dating.
and you think love is to pray by StevieVixxen
It’s a betrayal that cuts deep…
Soft Skills by Lady_Ganesh
"So," Bruce said carefully. "You're saying that your tower became a big target for an alien army, so you're going to rebuild it as an even bigger target?"
"Well, when you put it like that, it sounds stupid," Tony said.
The team tries to bring Steve Rogers into the 21st Century. It mostly works.
As my beta CaptainBlue said: Also I love how you did a fic about Avengers team building and still managed to make it 100% about Cap. You have a gift. This is why I love her. Any remaining mistakes are mine.
Think Again by KandiSheek
Tony doesn't understand why Steve always makes him run laps or do push-ups before sex. Steve doesn't know why Tony doesn't like his kind of foreplay. After all, everyone gets turned on by exercise. Right?
Cat's in the Cradle by Last_Chance_Anna
Steve starts thinking about his father and the affect he had on his life. Tony is there to offer support and comfort.
Santa Claus is Coming to Town by Last_Chance_Anna
Steve and Tony throw a Christmas party, and Steve rediscovers his jealous streak when it comes to Tony. Luckily Tony knows the cure for that. Spoiler alert: It's sex.
Not a Perfect Man by Neverever
Steve and Tony are back on track as friends and spending a lot of time together as they form a new Avengers team. But Steve is again in a rocky relationship with Sharon and Tony is dating a new woman. Steve struggles as his long-dormant crush on Tony comes back with a vengeance because he's supposed to be a good man and he doesn't want to lose Tony as a friend. What is he supposed to do as a friend when Tony's new girlfriend turns out to be not good for Tony?
Running out of Time by Lenalena
Prompt: "After the events of IM 1, Tony joins the expedition searching for Captain America as a holiday to get away from all the media speculation and stock value crash hate he was getting from the board. He's testing out new kit, working up a new portfolio of technology to boost the company back up, when he finds a plane wreck, buried halfway under the Greenland ice sheet."
That is how he ends up hiding Captain America in plain sight, while the man gets adjusted to the 21st century. He is just doing him a favor, okay?
What could possibly go wrong?

Scenes that turned average Marvel movies into masterpieces
3. Sam Wilson receiving the shield and being reveal to be the next Captain America
Tumblr media
2. T’Challa getting ready to kill Zemo to avenge his father, but then changing his mind after hearing Zemo’s story and even keeping him from killing himself so he could face the consequences of his actions.
Tumblr media
1. Stephen “it’s the only way” Strange figuring out that there might actually be another way and telling America to trust herself and her power, only for America to defeat Wanda in the most powerful way, by giving her what she always wanted and showing her how harmful he actions had been.
Tumblr media
It doesn’t happen in all MCU movies, but sometimes we get a scene that is so great that it takes the movie to a whole other level. Marvel movies are usually mainstream movies, with a light plot, some actions scenes, some humor, and are manufactured in order to be liked by the largest audience. I think a lot of people get disappointed because they have expectations that are too high, when these movies are made to attract everyone even the casual watcher.
But there are scenes like these that change the tone of the movie, give depth and give a little something that makes the movie great in the end.
When I think about Avengers: Endgame, I don’t remember the messy plot, or the confusing timeline, I remember how the last scene was a pivotal moment for the MCU. I remember all the emotions I felt when I first saw Sam Wilson holding the shield.
When I think about Captain America:Civil War, I don’t remember the fights or the whole debate around the accords. I remember one of the most powerful and emotional scenes in the MCU, where T’Challa lets go of his desire of revenge because he saw what being consumed by vengeance could do to a man, when hearing Zemo talk about how he lost his father, his wife and his son in Sokovia.
And when I’ll think about Doctor Strange, I won’t remember a cute movie about a sorcerer adopting a teenager with superpowers and doing everything he can to protect her fro a Carrie/The Ring Crossover witch. I’ll remember America discovering her own strength and using it to defeat Wanda in the smartest way ever. That scene had everything, it had drama, plot twist, feelings, emotions, it was to perfect way to end the movie and it made me feel all kind of things.

But three reasons Becca loves when Neighbor!Bucky watches her
💕💕
There was a frantic knock at the door, the steady noise drawing Bucky from the kitchen. He had opened the door and leaned against the wood, finding you standing outside looking ragged and stressed.
“I need a favour-“ “-are you okay?”
You and Bucky spoke at the same time, cutting each other off and talking over the other. He had waited for you to speak first, looking you over as you stood on the other side with Becca and a duffel bag in your hand.
“I have to go out of town for an emergency and I can’t take Becca with me, and I know that….I don’t have anyone-“
“Can I stay with you, Bucky? Please? Please?” Becca tucked her hands under her chin and looked at him with wide, puppy dog eyes.
And the same kind of energy that reminded him so much of his younger sisters.
“I’m really sorry for asking this, but Becca has school and…I have no one else.” You looked defeated, and Bucky yearned to make you feel better.
“Its okay, Y/N.” he extended a warm smile and tender hand upon yours. “I can watch her, she’ll be safe with me.”
“Thank you, Bucky! Thank you so much!” You hugged him tightly, leaning into him without merit, arms wrapped around his neck.
“You’re welcome, ba-“ he stopped himself from letting the pet name slip, stopped himself from the endearment. “You’re welcome, doll.”
When you had pulled away, you crouched before Becca and straightened her shirt then rest your hands upon her shoulders.
“You promise you’ll be good?”
“Yes mama.” Becca crossed her heart and nodded her head.
“And you’ll listen? You’ll be behaved for Bucky?” You we’re worried, you were anxious about leaving her. Bucky could see it written all over your face, and he could feel it like a slow rolling fog.
“Y/N,” Bucky stirred your attention and caught your gaze, “she’ll be fine.”
“I’ll be good, mama.” Becca hugged you tightly, her arms slipping around your neck like it was an endless goodbye even though you said it would be for a few days.
“Bucky, thank you again.” You stood and physically forced yourself to step away, forced yourself to leave.
“If you need any help, I mean for anything-“
“I might take you up on the offer.” Your smile was small, and you had only departed when Bucky steered Becca inside and slowly closed the door.
“Alpine!” Becca scurried off, chasing after the white cat who had jumped off the windowsill to the couch.
“I’m gonna make you something to eat, Becca.” Bucky confirmed then approached the kitchen and leaned against the cupboards, his eyes closing slowly while he exhaled shakily.
Becca was so much like his sister, Becca was like looking at his younger sister in her childhood and it stirred so many feelings he had thought he’d lost entirely.
The urge…the underlying instinct to protect you and that little girl with every basest part of him, even the darker parts he had tried to hide, had come back with a vengeance.
Because Bucky hadn’t just thought of you and Becca as his neighbours, he knew that he could be more.
He could be a husband and a father, he could be the best damn husband and father in NYC.
And it all started here.
** ** **
“Three reasons why I like being here…” Becca plopped on the couch beside Bucky, bearing her colourful onesie with fuzzy ears.
“Lay it on me.” Bucky had cleaned up from dinner and he had called you to let you know that everyone was happy and fine.
“Reason 1,” Becca sidled up to Bucky, cuddling into his side like she knew he was someone who would keep her safe, “Alpine is the cutest kitty ever, she’s soft.”
“Yeah? You like her?” Bucky had been elated to hear from you, but there was something in your voice that had him worried.
“Reason 2,” Becca looked up at him, hopeful and happy, “you have the best stories, plus you knew Captain America before he was captain America.”
“I like those too.” Bucky had slowly rubbed her arm, comforting her as she tucked her blanket under her chin.
“Reason 3,” Becca yawned, familial affection behind her movements to get comfy, “you’re a good person to my ma. My birth dad is an asshole.”
“Becca-“
“Its true, Bucky.” She opened her eyes, a flicker and surge of sadness and childish anger casted upon her eyes. “Ma says he’s a deadbeat. You’re so good to mama.”
“I like your ma.” Bucky settled in with her, protecting her like she was his own. “Your ma is beautiful.”
“She likes you too.” Becca confirmed, giving him immense hope. “I hope you fall in love with her. Then we could be a family.”
Truly, Bucky knew he was.
Truly, he knew you three would be.

sometimes I worry if I've accidentally slipped into headcanons around stucky b/c the majority of the the fanon is so different and overwhelming sometimes but then someone shares the scripts to the movies and remember my "headcanons" are actual canon and I've just been forgetting how layered and deep devastating these two are and I'm not making it up omfg
Bucky was Steve's shield and savior the whole time keeping him safe he faced the brutality of war and tried to protect him from it and was willing to die to keep Steve rogers safe and faced indescribable horrors enslaved in his own mind for it, & Steve is pained in his soul for failing to return the favor and protect his hero in return and now Bucky Barnes is named as a face of evil while everyone praises Captain America and it feels so wrong to Steve and he throws his whole life into doing right by Bucky because he is his home he was the first hero and the history books will never give Buck his due. I am inconsolable T.T
MCU was cooking when they were first writing their story. Marvel needs to stop being afraid of stucky and get back to their roots they had such gold at the heart of their story it was like divine intervention how hard they went at the beginning
one of my fav bits of Steve&Bucky Lore that isn’t explicitly shown in the movie is that bucky isn’t only steve’s protector before the war, he’s also the first one who actually taught steve how to defend himself. steve’s motivation to stand up to bullies is completely his own but in the first vengeance comic (the tfa prequel) bucky, upon realizing steve is not going to give up on enlisting, decides that since he can’t persuade steve to stay out of it, he’s going to make sure he at least knows the basics of protecting himself. they go to bucky’s boxing gym together and bucky gives him lessons on how to fight, stressing the importance of steve focusing his tactics on speed and agility because the people he’ll be going up against are going to be bigger, but not necessarily dumb. he has a whole speech that sort of ties into what erskine says about steve being the little guy— and even when steve takes the serum and gets bigger and stronger, you can tell that he uses what bucky taught him. bucky didn’t stop protecting steve when they were apart. he did his best to prepare him to fight despite being frustrated by how steve was trying to throw himself headfirst into battle and i think that speaks to how much they understand each other. bucky knew steve was too stubborn to stay out of it and steve knew bucky would never let the matter go without doing his best to help. even when they weren’t necessarily on the same side of an argument, they were still a team, and that’s something that has never changed.

Pitch for a “Namor the Sub-Mariner” solo movie:
Taking place a few months after “Wakanda Forever”, Namor has strengthened his isolationist position for Talokan. Even without Wakanda’s help, he’s prepared to launch a war against the surface world, with Attuma being his second-in-command. Unbeknownst to Namor, Attuma is a warmonger who is more interested in conquest rather than pushing back against potential invaders, which is the reason Namor is going to war.
Note: I won’t go into detail on this but the early fight scenes in the movie are Namor fighting against mercenaries who are looking to loot Talokan. This ends up fueling Namor’s vengeance against the surface world.
That is, until he receives a message that a surface dweller wished to speak with him regarding an important proposition. The surface dweller is revealed to be Susan Storm aka the Invisible Woman (this is BEFORE she gets her powers). Susan is a scientist who is fascinated by Talokan after she discovered the city’s existence through her research into vibranium deposits in the oceans. Sue asks Namor if she can study the vibranium in his nation, to which Namor refuses, saying that the surface has no good intentions when it comes to his people.
Sue than says that she wants to earn Namor’s trust. She asks Namor to come back with her to her lab in Mexico City, to see that she’s serious about her work. Although Attuma and Namora tell Namor to refuse, Namor decided to go after thinking back to his newfound friendship with the Wakandans. Also, Namor says that if things go south, he could always just kill Sue and burn her whole operation down.
So, Namor goes back with Susan Storm to her lab. For most of the second act, Namor goes from being skeptical of Susan to being appreciative. Think of Namor and Sue’s relationship as along the lines of Dracula and Lisa in “Castlevania”. You have this big, scary, immortal man who is skeptical of outsiders, but slowly starts to appreciate them after forming a relationship with one of them. Namor, although he’s still skeptical of the surface dwellers, starts to reconsider his viewpoints through his interactions with Sue and learning about what has been happening in the world. He realizes there’s still hope in humanity, that not everyone are like the Spanish colonizers who razed his homeland.
Examples of humanity’s good deeds that Namor could learn about:
1) Captain America inspiring people to fight back against HYDRA…twice.
2) The entire universe joining forces to stop Thanos.
3) The world welcoming the Asgardian refugees and allowing them to settle into New Asgard.
4) Sam Wilson’s speech at the end of “Falcon and the Winter Soldier”.
5) T’Challa opening the borders to Wakanda and becoming part of the international community.
Around the same time, Namor and Susan start to get close. Namor starts to fall for Sue and vice versa. Because of this, Namor begins to realize that waging war is senseless and that Shuri was right about only fighting for protection. He realizes that although the surface world can still be a threat to Talokan, that doesn’t make it right to start a war against everyone. Namor decides to call off the invasion…but Attuma goes ahead with the first strike. Attuma unleashes a tsunami on Veracruz (which is a few miles away from Mexico City), which was one of the attacks that Namor and Attuma agreed upon.
Namor, furious at the carnage (there’ll be a scene where Namor is inspecting the damage and becoming enraged), returns to Talokan to confront Attuma. Attuma says he’s taking over the throne due to Namor becoming “compromised” by the surface. Namor says that he hasn’t been compromised, to which Namora says that he had been seduced by Susan into betraying his people. Namor says that he’s realized that waging war on everyone will lead to Talokan’s demise and that there’s more to the surface world than he previously thought. Attuma says that nothing has changed and calls for Namor’s death. (Insert thrilling action sequence where Namor flees from Talokan)
The third act of the movie is essentially Namor vs. Attuma and Namora. Namor gathers his allies (Susan Storm and her team, the Talokans who refused to follow Attuma, and the international community). I pictured the war along the lines of “Man of Steel”, where the Talokans are causing tsunamis to destroy coastal cities while Namor and friends are trying to destroy the devices that are causing the tsunamis. The battles are split this way:
1) Namor and the Talokans on his side going to war in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean to destroy one tsunami machine
2) The international community attacking another tsunami machine
3) Susan Storm and friends trying to rescue people in a city that’s been targeted by the Talokans
So, yeah, lots and lots of destruction, but eventually, Namor’s side prevails. With Attuma’s side on the ropes, Namor challenges Attuma to a one-on-one duel. Winner claims the throne. Of course, Namor wins as he’s the main character. Attuma asks Namor if it was worth it siding with the surface world against his own people. Namor simply says, “I never went against my people. You turned your back on me.” Attuma laughs and says that’s not how he sees things. He’s then taken into custody. Namora is also taken into custody.
Movie ends with Namor returning to Talokan. He says that he’s not ready for Talokan to join the international community, but he no longer views them as a looming threat that needs to be destroyed. He also says that Susan is welcome to come back with him to Talokan, to which Susan says she will after she completes a mission in space (foreshadowing “Fantastic Four”). Sue leaves Namor and Namor returns home, this time with a more optimistic view of the future.
Mid-credits scene: At a United Nations hearing, it’s revealed that Sokovia is being blamed for Talokan’s attack. Apparently, the United States and the UK have been accusing Sokovia of developing secret weapons of mass destruction capable of causing tsunamis. They accuse Sokovia of lending the machines to Talokan as a way of “testing” them. The leader of Sokovia (whose face is shrouded) denies the accusations and that Sokovia had nothing to do with Talokan. The mysterious man also demands that the international community refer to Sokovia by its new name; “Latveria”. We then get a reveal…it’s Doctor Doom. Doom has taken over Sokovia/Latveria and it’s strongly implied that Namor came to him for a weapons deal.
Post-credits scene: Namor is talking to his friend, Marrina Smallwood (she’s in the movie as a supporting character). Marrina asks if Namor was invited to join the Avengers, to which Namor says he’s uninterested. Marrina then starts coming up with superhero names for Namor and suggests, “Aquaman”. Namor says that the name is good, but he feels that it’s taken.

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
November 9th - Prince Namor the Sub-Mariner
Namor McKenzie is the king and ruler of the undersea kingdom of Atlantis. He was born as a Mutant-hybrid son of a human father (an explorer named  Leonard McKenzie) and an Atlantean mother (The Princess Fenn).  He was named Namor which in the language of Atlantis means ‘avenging son.’
As a product of his mixed heritage and possessing the X-gene, Namor has been bestowed tremendous powers  This includes greatly enhanced strength, speed and durability, a significantly extended lifespan and the capacity to fly and swim at a tremendous speed.  Despite his differences and his having a human father, Namor’s power and his being the grandson of Emperor Thakorr led to his being named heir to the throne of Atlantis.
As the human would further encroached onto the seven seas, Namor ventured out to interact with the world of man.  His initial forays were aggressive as he arrived in New York City and declared the oceans off limits to mankind under the punishment of war.  It was herein that Namor was first referred to as ‘The Sub-Mariner.’  Namor’s decree led to numerous altercations between Thw Sub-Mariner and the surface world hero, Human Torch (Jim Hammond).
The intrepid police woman, Betty Dean, was able to broker a truce between the two combatants.  Namor was taken by Dean’s bravery and honor; so much so that it changed his mind about humans.  Not long thereafter, the outbreak of the Second World War saw Namor and The Human Torch becoming allies so to battle the evil of the Axis Forces.  The two were later partnered with Captain America and Bucky in forming the Allied super team, The Invaders.
Some time after the war, a villain named Paul Destine used the powerful Serpents’ Crown to instill in Namor a pervasive amnesia that made him forget who he was and where he came from.  Many years later, Namor was discovered in a Manhattan flophouse by Johnny Storm of the recently established Fantastic Four.  Johnny was able to recognize Namor as the Sub-Mariner.  Hoping to break Namor out of his stupor, Johnny dumped him into the Hudson River.  This had the effect of freeing Namor from his amnesia and much of his memory returned.
Namor made his way to an Atlantean outpost under the sea, only to discover that it had been destroyed by the US Military’s testing of nuclear weapons.  Namor vowed vengeance on the surface world and attacked it, using the giant sea monster Giganto. The Fantastic Four were able to stop the Sub-Mariner. During the fight, he became instantly enamored of Sue Storm, and offered to make her his bride and queen of Atlantis. Namor carried the romantic crush with him for years and she even reciprocated the feelings for a while, which first became apparent when Namor teamed up with Doctor Doom to destroy the Fantastic Four.
Following further clashes with the super heroes of the surface world, Namor returned to Atlantis and was named king.  He continued to battle with the surface world as well as fighting off undersea threats to the city like the rebel leader Attuma.  Namor married the Atlantian dignitary, Lady Dorma whom he had fallen in love with.  Sadly, Dorma was kidnapped and later killed by the villainess Llyra.
Although Namor often fought with the surface world there were also many times where he allied himself with human heroes against superordinate threats.  He was a founding member of The Defenders, a frequent alley of The Fantastic Four and also briefly acted as a member of The Avengers.  During this time, Namor purchased a corporation called Oracle Incorporated that worked toward producing clean energy whist promoting an environmentalist agenda.
Following the M-Day decimation, Namor loaned his support to his fellow Mutants among the X-Men, ultimately joining their ranks for a time.  During his tenure with the X-Men, Namor became possessed by The Phoenix Force resulting in his waging war on Wakanda and sacking the Golden City.
Amidst all this, Namor also became a part of a secret cabal of luminaries known as The Illuminati who would periodically gather to address partially dire threats to the earth.  He left the group in objection to their decision to exile The Incredible Hulk into outer space.
Prior to the Secret Wars event, Atlantis was destroyed by the forces of Wakanda in retribution for Namor’s attack on Wakanda whist possessed by the Phoenix Force.  An embittered Namor joined the Black Order as part of a more aggressive effort to battle off the cascading incursions of alternate universes that ultimately resulted in the destruction and recreation of reality entailed in The Secret Wars event.
Namor was killed by the Squadron Supreme in the aftermath of Secret Wars, yet was quickly resurrected and all of Atlantis was recreated as well.  Namor was once more seated as emperor and has dedicated himself to safeguarding his people and his realm by any means necessary.
Actor Tenoch Huerta portrays Namor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting in the movie, Wakanda Forever.  Prince Namor the Sub-Mariner first appeared in the pages of Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1 (1939).

Essential Avengers: Avengers #311: The WEAKEST POINT
Tumblr media
December, 1989
Hydrobase DESTROYED!
Right from Atlantis Attacks to Acts of Vengeance?
Ugh. Marvel really was trying to shake all the quarters out of its audience in 1989. And then the trends of the 90s with special covers and new number one's galore? And then bankruptcy because the big comic companies had poisoned their own waters with that kind of behavior?
I'm getting ahead of myself.
I covered all of Atlantis Attacks because the Avengers and West Coast Avengers chapters wouldn't make any sense in isolation.
I am NOT covering all of Acts of Vengeance.
I counted 50 participating issues before I gave up! That is so much! And it's not really an overarching story so much as... like a vibe? A vague theme?
Villains attacking people they don't usually villain because some masterminds think that would give them a better chance of winning.
A flawed premise because in Marvel, the idea of a strict rogues gallery is a lot more loose. Since a huge chunk of the superhero populace operates out of New York, everybody just kinda shares.
I mean, sure, some of the match-ups that took place in Acts of Vengeance were unlikely. But they were match-ups that could have eventually happened just because Superman Doesn't Stay Out of Gotham in Marvel, if you catch my point.
As the bridge between all of Marvel, the Avengers are pretty likely to eventually fight anyone.
Anyway, I'll only be covering the Avengers and Avengers West Coast. If I try to cover everything I will die.
Also, I covered Atlantis Attacks first because Hydrobase/Avengers Island shows up in it and then (spoilers) it gets destroyed here in issue #311.
Remember how I kept saying enjoy the island while you could?
Yeah...
;_;
Tumblr media
Look at Avengers Island in that opening splash! The runway and roads form a sorta A shape. That's just cool!
That's the coolest the island has ever looked because other aerial shots have been pretty barren or have only showed the Avengers Mansion.
Sadly, Avengers Island never really got a chance to shine. Introduced by Stern before he got unceremoniously booted by editorial meddling and barely utilized by Walter Simonson since his run barely got off the ground. John Byrne seemed like he was going to do something with it when his run started because he had the island moved closer to New York and renamed from Hydrobase to Avengers Island.
But it got hoisted out of the sea (somehow without being majorly damaged) in the Lava Men trilogy and then wasn't really important in the Gilgamesh Is Dead trilogy and now here we are where (spoilers) its going to be destroyed.
I'm jumping the gun a little bit to eulogize but it's been a recent them of the Avengers books that interesting ideas just don't get a chance before they're taken out back and shot.
Captain Monica as the chairwoman of the Avengers. The Worst Roster. Avengers Island.
There's always someone smacking the book and yelling at it to stop trying new things.
Anyway. My unending sadness aside, this is a Quasar focus issue.
I'm not really sure when he became an Avenger because he just started showing up as one when Cap announced the Every Avenger Is An Avenger roster. So either sometime in another book or he was just nearby when Cap was gathering people and got included to pad out the numbers.
(Apparently, there was a back-up story in Avengers Annual #18 set between Avengers #303 and 304 showing that Quasar got invited to join after the Super-Nova incident. Captain America and Hawkeye fight over him. It sounds like a fun story. But I read Avengers Annual #18 for Atlantis Attacks and sometimes back-up stories are omitted on Unlimited and whoops this is one of those times.)
Quasar shows up at Avengers Island after participating in another Acts of Vengeance over in his own book.
Speaking of ideas that never really got a chance to shine: the Avengers Support Crew finally show up!
With the Avengers getting a whole island as their headquarters, some noise was made in Simonson's run that they'd be hiring more of a support crew than just Jarvis. Mostly characters from Captain America's orbit.
But with Simonson leaving the book, not a lot was done with that idea. Until now! The very issue that the new, bigger headquarters they were hired to help with is going to sink!
Hahahaha ;_;
Anyway. We have Robert Frank Jr - Nuklo from Giant-Size Avengers #1. Son of the Whizzer and Miss America (not the modern one). He was cured of being excessively radioactive and got hired to be a groundskeeper on Avengers Island.
We have Peggy Carter. I don't need to explain Peggy Carter. She fought in World War II and was Cap's sometimes girlfriend. Then he started dating her niece instead. Which is a very normal thing to do, probably. She was hired to be in charge of telecommunications.
There's Fabian Stankiewicz. Good ol' Mechano-Marauder! That dingus that kept building robot suits to attack the Avengers and he was treated as a bit of a joke villain? Even getting beaten once by David Letterman. Yes, David Letterman. Cap saw potential in him anyway and hired him to maintain and improve the Avengers' technology.
There's M'Daka, a Wakandan pilot that delivered Captain America a new shield once. And apparently this made such an impression on Cap that he poached the guy from T'Challa to work for the Avengers as a mechanic.
Michael O'Brien, the former head of security for Project PEGASUS and later the Vault and was hired as head of security for the Avengers. Given the stuff that happened at Project PEGASUS and the Vault, I don't know if he's great at his job. But also the Avengers aren't great at security sometimes so its a lateral move, at worst.
Jarvis, of course, is on the payroll as butler and delightful human being. I assume he gets paid extra for being so delightful.
Keith Kincaid, husband to Jane Foster, was hired as a doctor so the Avengers wouldn't have to rely on mysterious Doctor Donald Blake just showing up whenever there's a medical emergency. And presumably to make Thor feel bad whenever he has to look at the dude that married his girlfriend because his dad made them break up.
There's also Donna Maria Puentes, a South American revolutionary that impressed Captain America with how good she was at shooting Nazi androids. So he hired her as an administrator.
Tumblr media
Take this with a grain of salt because I'm also the person looking forward to the Avengers' 90s team jackets but I think the blue jumpsuits and red turtlenecks are a very spiffy look for the support crew.
I honestly like the idea that as a bigger, more officially recognized super-team, the Avengers would have a support staff. And since security is very hard for superheroes, it's mostly people that Captain America already knew.
This issue really goes into some depth about how Avengers Island normally operates. There's guys doing landscaping. There's guys in a security room spotting Quasar arriving and making sure the system confirms his arrival via retina pattern and fingerprints. Then they watch him as he makes his way through the Mansion towards the communication room.
When he gets there Peggy Carter tells him that she's getting reports from all over that superheroes are getting attacked by people they've never faced before.
She won't call it a plot without more evidence but she definitely is thinking the word plot very loudly.
Elsewhere, a mysterious (Loki) man in a suit sits on a throne flanked by two fancy braziers (it's Loki) spying on the Avengers' communication room with magical scrying (Acts of Vengeance plays this up as a mystery but it's Loki, you know it, I know it, and he knows it).
Definitely Loki meets with a mysterious green cloaked figure (Dr Doom, obviously) and ... Shredder from Ninja Turtles? Or maybe the Mandarin? And there's a lot of Everything Transpires How We Planned and yeah we're definitely all going to try to betray each other between them.
Definitely Doom says that he's set in motion his part of the plan.
Anyway, Peggy Carter just finishes telling Quasar that she hasn't been able to contact any of the other Avengers when Avengers Island starts to shake.
Peggy checks on the security monitor and OH NO
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dozens of robots are smashing holes in the flotation cushions that keep the not-an-island Avengers Island floating!
Since it's just Quasar and the support crew (despite the lying cover featuring Thor, Namor, She-Hulk, Sersi, and Captain America! That's a lot of lying, even by cover standards!), it's an all hands situation.
The non-superpowered people all grab laser rifles from gun lockers, Fabian gets into his latest battlesuit, and Quasar flies out and starts blasting robots.
I'm of two minds here, re: the Acts of Vengeance conceit.
The Avengers have fought Doom before. He's not showing up personally, just sending some robots. But I think it counts. So Doom attacking the Avengers with robots isn't a match-up they haven't had before.
But most of the actual Avengers are off busy somewhere. I don't think Quasar has fought Doom. So Quasar and the Avengers Support Crew versus some Doom robots that aren't Doombots is a novel match-up.
The support crew and Quasar blast the bots to pieces but the disembodied limbs keep attacking.
Tumblr media
Rocket punch!
That ol' Doom sure knows how to build a robot.
Even as the support crew and Quasar blast bots, more continue to punch holes in Avengers Island.
MEANWHILE, SPACE.
Which is a thing you have to say when reading comics.
Starfox sneaks aboard Nebula's spaceship to find out what his supposed grandniece is up to. He pleasure zonks a guard unconscious and steals his environment suit so he can be INCOGNITO.
He finds his way to the bridge where Nebula and her Rigellian minion Gunthar are looking over the tablets they recovered from Omicron Seti, which hold in their ancient carvings A SECRET THAT DETERMINES THE FATE OF THE UNIVERSE. A secret that will make her scarier than Thanos.
But she'll need Paul Harker, that random old man scientist the book has kept cutting to. The one who blew up his own basement with his new invention? That guy.
The one subplot the Avengers book has been dutifully building up.
Back at Avengers Island, the support crew is getting overwhelmed. Even Stankiewicz in his battlesuit.
BUT DAMMIT THEY WON'T GIVE UP. THEY HAVE TO PROVE THEY'RE WORTHY OF CAP'S TRUST!
Wow. Cap picked well. These guys really want to live up to what he saw in them.
Quasar sees some of the robots messing with the big Quinjet fuel storage tanks but he's able to chase them away pretty easily. Too pretty easily...
But he literally doesn't have time to worry about that.
He sends Peggy Carter to go back to the communications room and try again to contact the Avengers. Despite Peggy telling him the emergency signal has been going since the attack started.
Peggy worries that the Avengers are already dead, since she wasn't able to raise them before the attack. But she's not going to think about it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The robots retreat but the island is already sinking.
Quasar doesn't know whether this is a trick or not but he decides to use the breathing room anyway.
He orders an evacuation and orders the support crew to try to prepare as many of the Quinjets for launch as they can reasonably save.
Then he dives into the water to check to see if Hydrobase Avengers Island can be saved.
And. No.
No, it can't.
Tumblr media
Every one of the flotation cylinders has been ruptured and has taken on water. There's just not enough time to patch all the holes before the island completely sinks.
Quasar does create a giant brace with his green lantern-ish powers to stabilize the island.
I wonder why he doesn't make a jack to lift it completely out of the water. He's thrown an entire Terminus into space once.
For that matter, weren't giant spikes put into Avengers Island to keep it in one place? Where are those and wouldn't they help keep the island afloat?
I guess that got lost in the shuffle.
O'Brien rushes into the mansion (where the flooding is ruining all of Tony Stark's art and rugs) to look for Peggy Carter. Who you may recall was sent back into the Mansion to try to contact the Avengers despite an automated distress call going out.
Way to manufacture drama, Quasar.
Peggy insists at staying at her post, continuing to try to contact help. Like she thinks she's on the Titanic or something. But O'Brien lies and says that the Avengers are here so c'mon lets hustle.
Then the secret bomb that the robots secretly left at the fuel tanks unsecretly explodes.
Tumblr media
Knocking Quasar for a loop and rendering his plan to stabilize the island moot.
There's just no chance of saving the island now.
But Quasar does pop out of the water to save O'Brien and Peggy and carry them to the Quinjet Jarvis is piloting.
Hi, Jarvis!
Jarvis: "I only wish we had never removed our headquarters from New York City. Then, perhaps... nothing like this... could ever have happened. The proud history of Avengers Mansion would not have ended like this..."
Tumblr media
Jarvis, I love ya, but shut up. You sound like you're speaking from the editorial, not from the heart.
Don't forget that y'all moved to the island in the first place because the Masters of Evil basically gutted Avengers Mansion. You might as well say 'I only wish we'd moved out to sea earlier so nothing like this could ever have happened' about that.
And like I said at the beginning of this post, Avengers Island was not a mistake. It was a new direction for the book that never got a chance to shine before someone lost their nerve and forced a change back to status quo.
Because, yes, before too long, Avengers Mansion will be rebuilt back in Manhattan.
And I like Avengers Mansion. Honestly, it's my favorite HQ for the team. But I wish this era wasn't characterized with timid backtracking.
Aside from that, this is a cool issue. Seeing the civilian support staff and Quasar have to defend the base while the Avengers are absent is pretty interesting.
I disagree with the sinking of Avengers Island but it does give Acts of Vengeance some impact. Although it can't compare to the last big HQ wrecking, Avengers Under Siege.
Anyway. Quasar says he gets the feeling this whole thing isn't over. And he's right. There's two more Acts of Vengeance in Avengers and three in Avengers West Coast.
Four in Avengers Spotlight but I don't read that. It says Avengers on it but it's like Two-in-One or Marvel Team-Up but with Hawkeye.

“Fall of X” Era Ushers in New Comic Book Series and Ties into Several Titles
Tumblr media
In July 2023 the X-Men will hold the Hellfire Gala, which will kick off a new era that will become known as the “Fall of X,” where everything that mutantkind has accomplished on Krakoa threatens to be destroyed. The Fall of X saga will tie into several titles and create a few new ones.
Tumblr media
X-Men will continue with the 25th issue from writer Gerry Duggan and artist Stefano Caselli. As with other Hellfire Galas, the team will get shaken up. Kate Pryde, aka Kitty, Sprite, Ariel, Red Queen, and Captain Kate, will join the team under the name ShadowKat.
X-Men #25, featuring a main cover by Joshua Cassara and a design variant cover by Peach Momoko, goes on sale on August 2, 2023.
Tumblr media
Iceman gets his own solo series as Earth’s protector from writer Steve Orlando and artist Vincenzo Carratù. Bobby Drake will get a new base of operations, new uses for his abilities, new enemies, and a new purpose, “but a dark side effect of his new mission could cause it all to shatter… After the events of this year’s can’t-miss Hellfire Gala, Bobby Drake, AKA Iceman, sets his sights on heroic deeds like never before. But as a new situation develops that links Iceman to his Antarctic ice palace, he’ll have to be slicker than ever to accomplish his mission before Orchis knows what hit them!” (Marvel Comics)
Astonishing Iceman #1, featuring a cover by Jesús Saiz, goes on sale on August 2, 2023.
Tumblr media
Wolverine and Ghost Rider are on a collision course in the four-part epic from writer Benjamin Percy and artist Geoff Shaw’s Ghost Rider / Wolverine: Weapons of Vengeance. “A demonic serial killer is murdering innocent mutants. But what is it about this deadly new villain that forces our two heroes to team up? And what buried secret does he share with Wolverine and Ghost Rider’s never-before-seen very first meeting in the past?” (Marvel Comics)
Ghost Rider / Wolverine: Weapons of Vengeance Alpha #1, featuring a cover by Ryan Stegman, goes on sale on August 9, 2023. The story continues in the pages of Ghost Rider #17, Wolverine #36, and Ghost Rider / Wolverine: Weapons of Vengeance Omega.
Tumblr media
Uncanny Avengers, from writer Gerry Duggan and artist Javier Garrón, will see the return of the Avengers’ Unity Squad. The new team will include Captain America, Rogue, Deadpool, Quicksilver, Psylocke, and Penance. The team will be tasked with solving the mystery of the murderous Captain Krakoa and stopping his army of killers from starting a new world war.
Uncanny Avengers #1, featuring a cover by Javier Garrón, goes on sale on August 16, 2023.
Tumblr media
Writer Steve Foxe and artist Jonas Scharf’s new Dark X-Men series will band together a new twisted team under Madelyne Pryor consisting of Pryor, Havok, Archangel, Gambit, Zazael, Zero, Albert, and Emplate. “This deadly group will band together to fill the void left by the X-Men, and are seemingly the perfect team to combat the harsh conditions of FALL OF X. Their hearts are in the right place but under the unpredictable leadership of the Goblin Queen and operating out of New York’s new Limbo Embassy, will this team’s dark ways turn the tide for mutantkind or make things far worse?” (Marvel Comics)
Dark X-Men #1, featuring a cover by Stephen Segovia, goes on sale on August 16, 2023.
Tumblr media
X-Force continues from writer Benjamin Percy and penciler Robert Gill. The team will have a new leader - Colossus - who will lead them to a place that Marvel Comics assures us readers will never expect.
X-Force #43, featuring a cover by Daniel Acuña, goes on sale on August 23, 2023.
Tumblr media
The Invincible Iron Man, from writer Gerry Duggan and artist Juan Frigeri, will see Tony Stark playing a key role in the Fall of X. With Feilong in control of Stark Unlimited and using it to build Stark Sentinels, Tony proposes an alliance with Emma Frost.
The Invincible Iron Man #9, featuring a cover by Kael Ngu, goes on sale on August 23, 2023.
Tumblr media
The Fall of X will also send ripples through the Ten Realms. Realm of X, from writer Torunn Grønbekk and artist Diógenes Neves will find a group of mutants stranded in Vanaheim. “And what's even more confusing, the locals seem to believe that they hold the key to fulfilling a prophecy that can either raise the realm to riches—or cause it to fall to ruin. With Magik's powers malfunctioning and a mysterious figure amassing power on the outskirts of the realm, these X-Men are going to going to have to band together if they want to stay alive long enough to find their way home!” (Marvel Comics) If Magik, Dani Moonstar, Marrow, Dust, Curse, and Typhoid Mary can overcome their differences they may just rise as the legendary heroes of the Tem Realms. Or their presences could just escalate the conflict and warps all of mutantkind’s destiny forever. No pressure.
Realm of X #1, featuring a cover by Stephanie Hans, goes on sale on August 23, 2023.

Shitty Superhero Tournament Rules and Bracket
Finally, ¡the tournament is about to begin! The bracket will be posted under the cut, but first let’s get some clarifications and rules out of the way:
The movies here have been selected (with two exceptions*) based on their Rotten Tomatoes movie scores and do not reflect my opinion of their quality. The tournament will be divided into six rounds.
Each movie will come with a quick summary of some of its highlights (or lowlights, depending on your point of view) but feel free to create and submit your own propaganda.
You may vote in any way you want, rooting for whatever gives you the most entertainment in a train wreck sort of way, the movie that’s the most incompetently made, a film you feel is actually really good, or however you want to interpret what the winner of a Shitty Superhero Movie Tournament entails.
Personal attacks/bigoted comments and propaganda WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. If you are here looking for an excuse to be racist/sexist/homophobic/anti-semitic/body-shaming/a dick to people trying to collect a paycheck under the corporate grindstone, fuck off. Just because these movies may be shitty doesn’t mean you should be.
If I make a factual error, feel free to correct me on it. Reblogs are encourage, ofc.
¡Have fun and be kind to each other!

One more prompt for today;
Storm, Marvel’s mutant Goddess of Weather, vs Stormfront, Vought’s extremely racist Nazi.
Storm can manipulate ALL forms of weather, and I learned from Death Battle that she can even affect the electrical impulses within people’s brains, and control cosmic storms. She even beat Avatar Korra in a Death Battle. She can also take on opponents who are physical far stronger than her.
Stormfront is simply strong and can only shoot lightning as well as fly. While Ororo can conjure up storms from the other side of the planet.
Storm will show Stormfront what happens to Neo-Nazis like her, the same thing that happens to Hydra. She’ll show her to fear the elements!
The sounds of thunder boomed in the sky, and lightning crackled around the two combatants. Stormfront pants, blood poured from her lips and nose; as she was in a battle against the X-Man known as Storm. The First Vought Supe scowled at the dark-skinned woman as if she was proof of everything she and her now-dead comrades believed in. She wiped the blood from her lip, sneering at the white-haired woman.
"Du verdammter Mutant (You damned mutant wretch)," Stormfront said to Ororo, "I won't stop! You and your fellow Mutante degeneriert (Mutant Degenerates) will be cleansed from this world. Es ist Gottes Wille (It is God's will)!"
"You will not," Storm says, raising her arms as the winds around them pick up. "and I will make sure you won't hurt anyone else!"
The Supe dressed in black hollers, charging toward the X-Man. She shoot bolts of lightning at Storm, who blocked the strikes with the palms of her hands. Ororo caught another series of lightning bolts tossed by her opponent, then began to concentrate them into a sphere. Stormfront's eyes widen in shock and horror, as she hadn't encountered such skill from a Supe or Mutant. Klara Risinger was a staunch believer in the Third Reich, and was the first given Compound-V when the Allies' champion Captain America began to dismantle their plans.
She had lived for a long time, with vengeance on her mind. But, now, instead of snuffing the life out of Erkstein's lab rat Steve Rogers, she was in a losing battle against a Mutant. Black Mutant, much to her displeasure. Klara hollered, her eyes smoldering with electricity; while Ororo's eyes smolder as well. The woman in black charged toward the X-Man, cursing her and her fellow Mutants.
Before Stormfront could throw a punch, she was assaulted with a verge of electricity. Klara screamed at the top of her lungs, as it was too much even for her. When the electrocution stops, she fell to the sky; losing consciousness. Ororo flies down, catching the First Vought Supe, and turns her attention to a SHIELD squadron as she descends to the ground. This was a tough battle, one that the X-Men fought against since it's inception. Fighting for a world that fears and hates them, fighting against those who would misuse their powers.
