Imagine a man meeting a woman, getting her to defect, getting her pregnant, and then leaving her with the baby to get back to his own "side". Imagine they meet once a year then. Is this in any way tolerable or cute? Nope. Now, reverse the sexes and see why I feel DOZA is an absolute SAINT.

"Star Wars Resistance": Diversity Shines Through in a Galaxy Far, Far Away
Tumblr media
What if a spy became a mechanic as "cover" for his espionage, but he was terrible at both jobs? Star Wars Resistance answers that question. This series follows the adventures of Kaz, the friends he meets along the way, and the challenges he and his friends face. Whether people are out to get them or they're facing rough and tumble situations, it's an animated series like no other- not even other Star Wars series.
Reprinted from The Geekiary, my History Hermann WordPress blog, and Wayback Machine. This was the nineteenth article I wrote for The Geekiary. This post was originally published on December 12, 2021. I wasn't sure the opening image was going to fly since The Geekiary, in terms of images that can be added to articles, is a bit prudish. But, it was accepted!
Star Wars Resistance is the creation of Dave Filoni, a director, screenwriter, actor, producer, and animator, best known for his work on animated series in the Star Wars franchise. Star Wars Resistance is a 3D animated action and sci-fi comedy that pulls you in from the first episode. It lasted for two seasons, with relatable characters and exciting adventures.
As a warning, this recommendation discusses some spoilers for Star Wars Resistance.

Yeager, Kaz, and Neeku on the Colossus
Star Wars Resistance centers around a pilot named Kazuda "Kaz" Xiono (voiced by Christopher Sean), who is recruited by Resistance commander Poe Dameron (voiced by Oscar Issac) to spy on the villainous First Order. He is taken in by Jarek Yaeger (voiced by Scott Lawrence), the owner of Yeager's Repairs, a mechanics shop on the refueling station Colossus. While there, he meets a talented technician named Neeku Vozo (voiced by Josh Brener) and an aspiring pilot Tamara 'Tam' Ryvora (voiced by Suzie McGrath), who are part of the same shop.
While staying on the Colossus, Kaz meets a variety of interesting characters. One is Hype Fazon (voiced by Donald Faison). Hype is the leader of Ace Squadron, the fighter unit protecting the station. There's also a pilot named Torra Doza (voiced by Myrna Velasco), Station Captain Imanuel Doza (voiced by Jason Hightower), and a space pirate spy named Synara San (voiced by Nazneen Contractor).
With the help of these new friends, he faces a high-ranking First Order officer, Commander Pyre (voiced by Liam McIntyre), and the First Order Security Bureau agent Tierny (voiced by Sumalee Montano). Over the course of the series, Kaz changes from an awkward kid to someone more confident in himself- and a somewhat more skilled mechanic.
Other recurring characters include Orka (voiced by Bobby Moynihan) and Flix (voiced by Jim Rash) who run the Office of Acquisitions aboard the station, tavern keeper Aunt Z (voiced by Tovah Feldshuh), pilot Freya Fenris (voiced by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn), space pirate captain Kragan Gorr (voiced by Gary Anthony Williams), space pirate Drell (voiced by David Shaughnessy), and pilot Jace Rucklin (voiced by Elijah Wood). Astromech droids like R1-J5 and BB-8 help characters when needed, whether fighting enemies, receiving messages, unlocking doors, assisting in piloting ships, or gathering information. Others such as 4D-M1N help in a command capacity.
Star Wars Resistance stands out due to its diverse cast in contrast to the overwhelming Whiteness of Star Wars films, apart from well-known characters like Lando Calrissian, who was first voiced by Billy Dee Williams and later by Donald Glover, Samuel J. Jackson's Mace Windu, and John Boyega's Finn. McGrath is a British actress with Jamaican and British roots, with her British accent strongly shining through in her voice acting as Tam. Faison and Lawrence are Black men. Montano has Filipino, Thai, Chinese, and German ancestry. Velasco comes from a big Mexican family and Contractor is of Indian descent. Sean, on the other hand, has Japanese, Irish, Spanish and German roots.
In an April 2019 interview, Velasco described herself as a "Mexican girl from L.A." She was amazed by the fandom's reaction to Torra, noting that unlike other series, Star Wars Resistance shows what characters do in day-to-day life. The series itself is set before the newest trilogy of Star Wars films. Torra could be argued to be Mexican-inspired or Mexican-code as Velasco voiced a Latine character named Carla Delgado in Elena of Avalor and Jessica Cruz in DC Super Hero Girls, who is of Mexican and Honduran descent.
Many of the voice actors have experience in the field, especially in all-ages animated series, but Star Wars Resistance is the first animated role for McGrath. She has said that in voicing Tam, she felt like she was in London's East End, due to the melting pot on the Colossus. She also described Tam as fun to play and said there is an "element of a young urban, Londoner" in the character.
In this anime-inspired animated series, Tam is more than a "feisty mechanic". She's a hard worker who wants to become a racer, a rule-follower who has a strong moral compass. This is challenged in the second season of Star Wars Resistance when the Colossus is revealed to be a space ship and Tam, feeling betrayed by Yeager and Kaz for not disclosing their ties to the Resistance, decides to join the First Order.
McGrath described Tam's decision as giving her the ability to be a pilot. There are challenges as she goes from being a mechanic to a soldier. Even so, she keeps her morality and her heart. Tierney, another brown-skinned character, is able to manipulate Tam to stay in the First Order by playing to her insecurities, using her as an asset to try and take down the Colossus.
Slowly over the second season Tam begins to change her mind about the First Order, even helping out Kaz and Neeku when they didn't realize it, even as both still have hope in her. Rucklin, who is still angry at Kaz for destroying his star fighter, tries to tell Tam to stay the course. Related to this is Griff Halloran explaining why he left the Empire, under which Doza was his commanding officer, in the episode "The New World". To him, fighting for the Empire wasn't worth it in the end.
As for Kaz and Neeku, they generally believe in Tam, while Yeager sees her as turning her back on them and joining the other side. Kaz even agrees with Yeager that they would have to take her out. In the first part of the Season 2 finale, she is horrified to see the destroyers firing on the people of Aeos while Rucklin remains loyal. In the second part, she tells Tierney that Yeager gave her a family, unlike the First Order,  and she wants to be with her chosen family instead of space Nazis.
While the first season of Star Wars Resistance takes place on Colossus where the characters have to face off the Warbirds, a gang of space pirates, the First Order and its military occupation of the platform, the second season raises the stakes. The Colossus is on the run from the First Order, barely escaping space battles before jumping to hyperspace. The platform remains a home for a gaggle of people and a found family for others, like the stowaways Kel (voiced by Antony Del Rio) and Eila (voiced by Nikki Soohoo) and Torra, the daughter of Captain Doza. In the process, they right off mutinous space pirates, save Resistance recruits, and Tam continues to have doubts about her role in the First Order, even after moving up the ranks.
The villains of Star Wars Resistance are starkly painted as evil without reproach. Stormtroopers are shown saluting the destruction of Kaz's homeworld and nearby planets, killing "countless innocents who called the system home." The First Order itself is clearly depicted as a fascist military junta. They were based on the idea of Nazis who fled to Argentina after World War II reforming into a group, admiring the work of the Galactic Empire. The First Order have been described as fascist but smarter than one would expect, ruling through fear rather than love. They're the equivalent of neo-Nazis or what some have called "space Nazis." General Hux, leader of the First Order, is modeled after Hitler.
There is an interesting contrast between the individuality emphasized on the Colossus and in the Resistance, and the First Order's mentality that the individual does not matter. Tam herself tries to mix those ideologies together, although it makes her superiors angry. While Pyre isn't happy when Tam literally saves those on the bridge of the Star Destroyer from being hit by a bomb fired by Kaz, she is promoted to second squadron commander by Tierny, to which she smiles and salutes. However, she shows doubts in firing on unarmed transport shuttles, while Tierny continues to have faith in Tam.
This makes it no surprise that Tam disagrees with Rucklin, a clear toady of the First Order, who shoots down a shuttle full of Resistance recruits. We even see Kylo Ren demanding that all Resistance cells be crushed, getting annoyed at Tierny for her "failures" and saying they don't "tolerate the weak." He is the only character to be shown using the Force in the whole series, in contrast to other Filoni productions which feature Jedi or Sith. There is no sympathy for these characters. After a Star Destroyer explodes in the final episode, with countless First Order troops aboard, including Rucklin, not one person bats an eye about the deaths of these soldiers.
The music of Star Wars Resistance is composed by Michael Tavera, a Latine composer who did music for Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters, The Awesomes, and many other shows. The series music is based on themes by John Williams. Every episode begins with an uplifting instrumental opening track. The series features other music set to the mood of the animation. However, the show's comedy is more prevalent than the music at times. It is mostly manifested by Kaz, often a goofball, and Neeku, who is very nerdy and has good chemistry with Kaz.
Unlike other Star Wars series such as Star Wars: The Clone Wars, romance is not a big part of the series apart from Captain Doza trying to protect his daughter, and his attempts to meet his wife, Venisa (voiced by Tasia Velenza). Kaz seems to have a crush on two women, Torra and Synara, and they may have crushes on him, especially in the case of Torra. However, they never kiss and their relationships never move beyond them being friends. In some ways, this allows the series to avoid falling into predictable romantic themes and plotlines that too many animations embody, often in a heterosexual manner rather than a queer one.
There are even recurring LGBTQ characters: Orka and Flix. Both are gay and are in a romantic relationship. This is only hinted throughout the series, but was confirmed by Justin Ridge, an executive producer of Star Wars Resistance who said they are "absolutely a gay couple and we're proud of that." Moynihan, who voices Orka, also said that Orka and Flix "love each other" and are his "favorite little couple" and hoped the characters return in the future. However, some criticize this portrayal as being too subtle and say it should be more overt.
Flix and Orka are among the small number of LGBTQ characters in Star Wars animated series. Cassie Cryar and Ione Marcy, who appeared in one episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, were revealed by Lucasfilm creative executive Pablo Hidalgo as "written as a couple in a relationship." Some accounts like Star Wars Queer Watch on Twitter track LGBTQ content in Star Wars. The latter noted the lack of LGBTQ characters in animated series, like Star Wars: The Bad Batch, which Filoni is also creator of, although they have a headcanon that Omega is trans or intersex.

Tam and Tierney on a First Order ship
Filoni has been involved with many other series besides Star Wars Resistance. He co-created Star Wars Rebels, storyboarded Star Wars Forces of Destiny, was a development artist, supervising director, writer, and producer for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and is an executive producer, director and writer of The Mandalorian. He was also a storyboarder on countless series and voiced various Star Wars characters in the aforementioned series, like Bo Keevil in Star Wars Resistance.
Star Wars Resistance was well received by critics, some calling it "primed with potential," having a "brighter, more colorful palette" than other series, and an animation style which stands out among the traditionally computer generated animations for other Star Wars series. As a result, the series was nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards in 2019 and 2020 in the Outstanding Children's Program category, and won the Saturn Awards prize for the Best Animated Series category in 2019.
The second season plotline of Star Wars Resistance which has Tam joining the First Order reminded me, in some ways, of Cassandra being manipulated by the Enchanted Blue Fairy in the third season of Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure, also known as Tangled: The Series. I wish that Star Wars Resistance had been extended into another season and had an order of 60 episodes like Tangled, instead of 40 episodes spread across two seasons (21 episodes in the first season and 19 episodes in the second).
Specifically, I would have liked to see Tam's struggle to find a place in the First Order expanded. Maybe she could have become totally be immersed in the ideology to the shock of the protagonists, like having her oversee the destruction of a system of planets by the Starkiller Base, a la Ash turning evil in Final Space. Maybe Tam wouldn't be redeemed in the end, as this series did or as Tangled did with Cassandra. Or perhaps they could have stuck with the existing storyline and had another season about Tam readjusting to the Colossus and having to face the First Order.
Even though it would have required some reworking, it could have been interesting to have Kaz as a female character instead a male character, as many of the Star Wars series have male leads while female characters are relegated to supporting or secondary roles, and at certain points, this series played into that, unfortunately.
Although we do not know all the behind the scenes of Star Wars Resistance, Filoni and other executive producers, Athena Portillo, Justin Ridge, and Brandon Auman, told CBR that they had always planned to tell a story that was was two seasons long, developing a roadmap from the beginning for the series. Even so, Portillo and Ridge confirmed that they are willing to revisit the series in the future. This means that Star Wars Resistance is not like Final Space which was unceremoniously cancelled by Warner executives. It also means that anger from some fans and split opinions on the show had nothing to do with the show's length, which is a positive. In the end, the series aired from October 7, 2018 to January 26, 2020, with both seasons available on Disney+ after February 2020.
Personally, I enjoyed Star Wars Resistance more than Filoni's other productions like Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which often seems like it comes out of the pages of a military history book or the war stories of soldiers in a battlefield, apart from the final episodes of the series, or even Star Wars Bad Batch. It was much more enjoyable than The Mandalorian, a series for which I sat through the first episode and was thoroughly unsatisfied with what I saw. It seemed like a shoot-em-up western that resembled a tired, boring Clint Eastwood film at times.
Star Wars Resistance also has more diversity in its cast than recent shows like Masters of the Universe: Revelation or Tangled. The latter series has a brown-skinned characters like Andra, voiced by Tiffany Smith, a multiracial actress, and features Black actors like Kevin Michael Richardson, Tony Todd, Phil LaMarr, Cree Summer, Dennis Haysbert, and Method Man, and a Latine man of Mexican descent, Danny Trejo. The former series has dark-skinned characters like Lance Strongbow (voiced by James Monroe Iglehart) and Adira (voiced by Kelly Hu). However, both of those series have White-majority casts.
With Star Wars Resistance currently at the end of its series order, now is the time to watch it on Disney+, Disney Now, or elsewhere. It's a great choice for a weekend binge session.

Who would win in an arm wrestling match? Cody or Rex? They’re basically the same person, so wouldn’t they have the same muscle strength? Unless one of them saw more action than the other. What do you guys think?

Well... I kinda predicted this in Lie to Me? xDDD
Except that the First Order failed in my story and Hux was betrayed and left for dead?
Anyway, it was certainly a good surprise seeing Dantooine mentioned in such a good situation and in a similar situation I pinpointed in my fic before.

Y'know that one scene in the gay and wondrous life of Caleb Gallo with the two ladies and the guy who are in a three-way relationship and the ladies are like "we don't have sex with him as often as we have sex with each other but we do love him and he does live here and he's in this relationship" that's the Dozas with Yeager. I cracked the code.

The Platform Classic.
Summery: Hera takes Jacen on a trip to the Colossus Station to see an old friend.
ao3
ff.net
“Where are we going mama?”
Hera looked down at the young boy next to her. Her beautiful green haired inquisitive young boy.
“Someplace very special love.” She told him as lowered the Ghost towards the water covered surface of the planet.
“Is it the space fair?” Jacen exclaimed, jumping up and down on his seat in excitement. Hera rolled her eyes fondly. He’d been asking her to take them back to the funfair ever since he’d gone of the purrgil carousel that Chopper had tampered with to make it go a lot faster than it should have. They were through the planet’s atmosphere now. Their ship skimmed the surface of the ocean.
“No love.” She took a deep breath. “This place is very special because of your Daddy.”
She watched as Jacen’s eyes widened. It was far from the first time she’d talked to him about Kanan. Almost everyone she’d introduced to the boy had a story to tell about his father. But she’d never taken him anywhere that held significant meaning to him before except Lothal. And now that the war was over, she finally had the chance too.
“Why Mama?” Her son asked. Hera sighed. She looked out at the station that appeared to rise out of the ocean as they approached it. It was just as she remembered.
………………………………………………………………………………………..
“We’re almost out of fuel. I’ll have to make a stop soon.” Hera said.
They’d just completely another mostly successful smuggling mission for the rebellion that as usual had gone to complete kriff but at least they managed to deliver the supplies.
“We’re almost out of everything.” Kanan mumbled under his breath from the seat besides her and even Chopper beeped in agreement. Hera didn’t dignify them with a response. Especially since they were right. Not only were they almost out of fuel, they had next to no money or food either. The only way to get enough credits to keep living would be to take up on the job Vizago was offering and they weren’t that desperate.... yet.
“According to this map there’s a station in the next system. We can fuel up there and see if anyone is offering any jobs.” She told them, already heading towards it’s coordinates. It took them to an ocean covered plant where the only place to land was a man-made station that appeared to rise out of the sea as they approached it from the horizon. They landed on the station where an elderly Theelin was all too happy to take their remaining credits for filling the Ghost up with fuel.
“Come on, I’ll buy you a drink whilst we wait.” Kanan said with a wink before heading off in the direction of a cantina. Hera rolled her eyes. After travelling with him for over a year, she had gotten used to the human’s flirting at this point. It had almost become a running joke between them.
She followed him into the cantina an old Gilliand stood behind that counter and a younger one waited at the tables. Music from before the cone wars croaked through the old speakers. Not that the patrons seemed to mind with many of them dancing along, their drinks spilling from their cups and splashing on their clothes. Avoiding any spillages, she sat with Kanan in a booth as the younger one over to them.
“Welcome to Mama Z’s. Whadaya want?” She asked her tome suggesting she’d already delt with enough kriff from customers today.
“What non-alcoholic drinks do you have?” Hera asked.
The slight raising of the woman’s eyebrow indicated that this wasn’t a question she received very often.
“Just water.”
“Then we’ll have two of those please. Also, you don’t happen to know if anyone here is in need of a freighter for a job.”
“Most of the trash in here are the ones looking for work.” She snorted before her eyes widened and the corner of her mouth curled upwards into a smile, whose deviousness was easy to see behind the fake friendliness.
“Although, if you have a ship and you’re looking for money, then you could enter tonight’s race. It’s the biggest race of the season, The Platform Classic and the last one of the Colossus’ reining champion Griff Halloran who has been selected to attend the Imperial Flight Academy on Coruscant, so the prize is doubled. And if you want to make even more money then you could make a bet with my mama on your own ship to win. If you’re brave enough.”
She let those words hang as she went to serve another table.
Hera turned back to face Kanan who was looking at her with a knowing smile.
“What?” She asked despite knowing exactly what he was thinking.
That smile got even wider as he leant over the table.
“Come on, a chance to make some cash, show off your flying abilities, and kick some soon to be imperial butt. What’s not to love?”
He did have a point. It would be a risk betting almost everything they had on this race, but it wasn’t as if they did risker things on a daily basis. At least this time they were just risking their money instead of their lives.
“Alright, I’ll enter the Ghost in the race. Although I’m blaming you if this ends up backfiring on us.”
“I’m not worried. you’re the best pilot in the galaxy. I know you can do it.”
He was somehow even closer now and the smile on his face had gotten smaller. She could just lean over and kiss him.
“I’ll go sign us up now.”
She suddenly stood up and headed straight for the bar, not daring to look back, afraid of what Kanan’s expression would be. She let out a deep breathe. That was a close call.
As she signed up the Ghost and placed her bet, she tried to determine when this desire had started. If she was honest with herself she’d probably say that there had been something between them since their very first meeting. Whenever it had, it had been getting stronger over the past few months.
She spent the next hour preparing for the race to distract herself from his annoyingly handsome face.
Eventually it was time for the race for to start. Hera was seated in the cockpit of the Ghost with Chopper beside her ready to navigate. She took a quick glance at the ships in the hanger around her. The Ghost was the only freighter amongst them and she could see the pilots giving her ship smug looks, thinking that she would be easy to beat. She smiled to herself.
“Clear skies! I know you can win!” Kanan shouted before he left for the stands.
Chopper beeped at her as she gazed at his retreating form.
“Shut up.” She mumbled, turning her attention back to her ship. The last person anyone should be taking relationship advice from is Chopper.
Her fingers grinded against the gears, her engine roaring as she waited for the lights to change to green. She’d had to out run imperial ships more times that she could count but she hadn’t been in an actual race since she was a teenager. She had forgotten how much she’d revelled them.
Suddenly the lights flickered on. As they switched from red to green Hera’s heart beat in time with their beeps. Until finally they were all green and she propelled herself from the garage. Used to flying in the emptiness of space it took her a minute to get used to the resistance of the air. And with a freighter as appose to the sports ships that all the other racers had which were built to cut through the air it would affect her more. But quickly she figured out how to use it to her advantage.
As they came to their first loop, she came in close behind a green ship. From this distance she could see the numerous sponsor stickers plastered on its rear. She stayed their until they reached the next hoop and managed to pass the ship, it’s Rodian pilot shaking his fist at her as she flew by and get behind the next ship in front.
She continued to do this until she reached the last hoop and it was just her and one other racer left. Their ship was black with an imperial symbol graffitied on the wings. No doubt belonging to the platforms reigning champion and soon to be star Imperial pilot. Hera knew that if the Empire was willing to put someone from this far into the outer rim into one of their best academies on Coruscant then he must have some talent. Sure enough, the pilot stayed a wingspan in front of her, serpentining through the clouds as though he moved with the wind. He must have noticed what she’d done with the other pilots as he never let her get behind him. Hera smiled to herself. That didn’t matter now.
The pair were closing in on the finishing point now. Hera could hear the screams of the crowd from her cockpit. She swore she heard Kanan’s from amongst the crowd despite knowing it was impossible. Just as Griff was about to cross the line, she used all the extra fuel she’d saved by staying in the other ship’s streamline and shot past him. A silence fell on the crowd as they tried to come to terms with the fact that their champion had lost.
Ignoring their reaction, she landed the Ghost. When she exited, the Captain of the station was waiting for her. He was young man with warm coloured skin and an impressed smile.
“Congratulations.” He said handing over her box of credits. “I’ve never seen flying like that before. And with a freighter no less! You know, with Griff leaving us we have an opening for the new protector of the station if you’re interested?”
“Thank you for the offer, but I am needed elsewhere.” Hera replied as she excepted her winnings.
“Very well. I wish you luck on your journey.”
She nodded graciously and started walking back up the ramp onto the ship when she heard shouting from outside.
“Wait!”
She turned around to see a boy not much younger than herself running towards her. He had light blonde hair and had patches od stormtroopers sewn onto his jacket.
“That was some pretty good flying out there. For an amateur. I’d like to see you try and repeat that in a rematch.” Griff said, a challenging smile on his face and a sparkle in his eye.
“Unfortunately, I have places to be but if I come back I’ll hold you to that.” Hera said hoping that they didn’t shoot each other down in that time.
“I’ll be waiting.”
Waving goodbye, she went back inside the Ghost. She flew it to the parking area where Kanan was waiting, their winnings from Mama Z’s in his hands.
“That were incredible! The way you flew with the air as though you were part of it! Are you sure you’re not a Jedi?” Kanan said with a raised eyebrow.
“Yes Kanan, I’m sure.” She sighed despite the smile on her face.
“Well space magic or not, thanks to you we won’t have to do any more jobs for the rest of the year! You’re amazing.” That last part seemed to slip out of his mouth by accident. He gaped it open and closed as though trying to catch the words and put them back inside his mouth.
It was impossible not to press her own lips against them, if only to force him to stop making that ridiculous expression. Even in all the day dreams that she’d pushed away, she never imagined that kissing him would feel like this. His lips slotted perfectly into hers while his human hair tickled her chin and his breath felt warm against his skin. And when his brain finally realised what was happening the way he held her at the small of her back and how his tongue danced inside her mouth made her knees feel weak. He really was a good kisser.
She wished it could always be like this. Enough money to go around, have fun doing what they love, not having to run from people intent on killing you due to your mire existence. She decided that from now on, she would make the most of these moments, as fleeting as they may be.
  ………………………………………………………………………………….
Hera walked into the familiar cantina. A Gilliand stood behind the bar, whilst people of all species danced to the music that croaked through the old speakers. But that wasn’t what caught her eye. No, it was the man sitting at the bar, his frame hunched over an empty stein of bear. His blonde hair had gotten lighter and he now had the Imperial symbol tattooed on his arm. Keeping tight hold of Jacen’s hand she made her way over to him.
“Hello.” She said, her tone neutral. Griff slowly turned his head in the direction of her voice, a haunted look in his eyes. But when they landed on Hera, some of that old spark rekindled in them and an unworn smile graced his face.
“So, you ready for that rematch?”

Another layer of symbolism
Upon remembering the name of the red trees on Vardos, I also remembered the legend behind them-- how the Maiden of the Shin'yah killed herself when she was forbidden from marrying the one she loved, becoming the first tree. And this makes me think, that of those are indeed Shin'yah trees in Doza's office, it may well be intentional.
After all, we now know that Doza was an Imperial officer who married a Rebel pilot-- a pretty clear cut case of "forbidden" love if I've ever seen one. And given the tragic nature of the myth and the absence of Mrs. Doza in the present, it also carries some grim connotations. Not literally what happened in the story, of course, that would make no sense, but I definitely get the feeling that their relationship didn't end well.

Rose, Sage, Parsley, Thyme, and the Magical Space Station Adventure
This teen and up story is the beginning of my High Guardian Space series! See Part II here and Part III here. Anyway, I always wanted there to be another season of Star Wars Resistance, as I wanted to see Tam readjusting to life on the Colossus and feeling she needed to earn the forgiveness of her friends, so I decided to write a wild one which uses characters from High Guardian Spice. In this story, Snapdragon uses she/her pronouns, and while Snap used he/him pronouns in the show proper, it was prior to her transition, with Snap confirmed by her voice actor and the show’s creator as a trans woman.
See the master list for High Guardian Space here.
Romantic pairings: Rosemary / Sage (Sagemary), Thyme / Parsley (Thymley), Snapdragon / Torra Doza
Friendships: Tamara Rvyora & Kazua Xiono, Imanuel Doza & Torra Doza, Neeku Vozo & Kazuda Xiono, Torra Doza & Kazuda Xiono, Snapdragon & Amaryllis, Snapdragon & Sage
Words: 2.0k
AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/36259774
Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/1254515661-high-guardian-space-rose-sage-parsley-thyme-and
Characters: Tamara Rvyora, Kazua Xiono, Rosemary, Sage, Thyme, Parsley
Summary: Four stowaways! Tamara Ryvora threatens our four high guardians with her ray gun, ready to blow them into oblivion after they accidentally end up on a space station known as the Colossus. Her friend, Kazuda, stops her, and brings them to the ship's captain. While Kaz is diverted to engineering, the daughter of the captain, Torra, gets permission to take the loyal guardians on a tour before something interrupts her plans. What transpires after they enter her room sets in motion a series of events which will change the lives of those on the Colossus forever...
A woman with a deep brown skin complexion and black hair pointed her blaster at four women. One had fluffy pink hair. The others had blue, yellow, and reddish hair. In her thick accent, she shouted, “Who the bollocks r yeh and why the heck r yeh on the Colossus?” If she had wanted, she could have killed them at point-blank range, one by one. It had only been a week since she had fled the First Order, a ruthless fascist, militaristic organization which had no problem with killing indigenous residents of specific planets or obliterating entire worlds as a show of force. She still felt she had to earn the forgiveness of her friends, like Kaz, Neeku, and Yeager, among the rest of the ship’s crew. They were the family she had chosen, the ones who cared about her. So, it was no surprise she was on edge. Who wouldn’t be after everything she had seen?
At that very moment, Kaz returned from having a couple drinks at Aunt Z’s. He didn’t notice his friend at first. At a second glance, he saw what was going on. He didn’t want her to get overwhelmed. She had been through a lot. “Tam, so…who are these women?” he asked. She shrugged. She didn’t know what to say to him. “I was doing som’ grift’ on the Fireball, yau see. Thes' faur pipsqueaks appeared lik' apparitions and started walking toward me.” She added, “I’m scared, Kaz…I don’t wanna to get hurt again.” Patting her on the shoulder, he reassured her that everything would be ok. She could relax a bit, even with everything going on in the galaxy. She deserved that much. “Fin’, yau can deal with them…I’ll go to Aunt Z’s for a drink.” She lowered her gun, put it in a holster, and walked out the door. Kaz sighed.
He really hoped that Tam would be fine. He made a personal promise to check on her later. He approached the four women. “So…why are you here?” he inquired. The blue-haired one answered tentatively, twirling her blue hair. “I…cast a spell and we just appeared here,” she said nervously. Her pink-haired friend tried to act all tough. She stood in front of her. She declared triumphantly, “I’m Rose, by the way. My friend Sage is still learning to use her magic.” Kaz nodded. He didn’t know what she meant by magic. The only “magic” he knew was something called The Force. He still didn’t believe in such hocus-pocus, despite some claiming it was a reality.
“Uh huh…what about you, little yellow girl…and tall girl with reddish hair?” The yellow-haired dwarf girl laughed. She playfully hit her elven friend on the back. She then said, “It was all Sage, man. Me and Thyme just came along for the ride…oh, I’m Parsley but you can call me Pars.” Kaz was still taking it all in. Magic? Spells? Who the heck were these women? He didn’t see the harm in taking them to Captain Doza. He would know what to do. “We are going to meet with the ship’s captain…he will deal with…all of you.” Sage was a bit nervous. Rose held her hand to make her feel more at ease. After leaving the mechanics shop, they all walked to the turbolift together. No one paid them any mind, despite the fact they looked different anyone else on board.
Entering the lift, they soon reached Doza’s office. Luckily, he happened to be there. He was taking a break from piloting the ship, letting his wife, Vanisa, take charge for a short while. He was having a talk with his daughter, Torra. She pleaded with him. “Father, can’t we have some downtime? I’d like to relax for a bit on some planet with nice, warm beaches…other residents want a break too.” He shook his head. He wished it didn’t have to be this way. He felt he had no options. They had to stay the course. “Sorry, Torra, we can’t take any unnecessary risks…the First Order is still out to get us…after we destroyed their Star Destroyer last week.” She huffed. She was about to walk out of the room. She was annoyed at her father again. Suddenly, Kaz entered with Rose, Sage, Parsley, and Thyme in tow. She decided to stay instead.
“What can I do for you, Kazuda?” Doza asked. He nervously said, “so, I found these four women aboard…I think they might be stowaways.” Doza was listening. Maybe these women could be useful, somehow. He hoped so. He didn’t know what Kaz wanted from him. “It's my responsibility for everyone on this station and to protect it from any threats. I can’t spend time dealing with every little issue that crops up. I’m stretched thin as it is.” Torra saw an opportunity to make her dad proud. She could even convince him to give her some time off.
She interrupted the conversation. “Father, can I lead them on a tour around the station?” He looked at her, then at Kaz. While Kaz had more than proven himself, he still believed his own daughter was more capable. Kaz always seemed to get himself caught in the worst situations. He still acted like a goof at times, even though he had gotten better over the years.
“Torra, you can do it. Kazuda, I have a more important job for you.” Instead of erupting into an outrage over this, he accepted the Captain’s orders, this time. He didn’t really want to bring them on a tour of the station anyway. He’d rather check on Tam. He was really worried about her. “Sure, Captain, anything you need” he responded. Doza was glad to hear that. He said, “Kazuda, I’d like you to go down to Engineering and help Neeku with his repairs to the engines after the First Order attack.” He nodded and left. Before that, he glared at Torra with a you-owe-me look. She acknowledged him.
It made more sense for her to show the station to the four women than Kaz. He was nice and all. Like her father, she still believed he could be a goofball too often. She was excited to meet new people and welcome them to the Colossus. She doubted they were spies for the First Order. If they were, they would try and muck up engineering. Instead, they looked like they were from some planet that never advanced into the modern age, without spaceships, ray guns, or anything like that.
As they got into the turbolift, she asked them, “so, where’d you all like to go?” Parsley started to say something. Suddenly, Sage began sweating uncontrollably and shaking. Rose held her hand tighter. “Uh, Sage, the page mage, are you ok?” she asked. She nodded. Thyme rolled her eyes. She knew exactly what this was. Someone had hitched a ride with them. “We have to get somewhere private, quickly!” she exclaimed.
Torra led the group to the one place she knew that no one would disturb them: her room. It was where she relaxed, with trinkets and trophies on display, including toys, stuffed animals, dolls, and figures. She also had played a flight simulator and shooting games with her friends, and enjoyed the company of her fluffy animal companion, Buggles, who often napped in the shade or snuggled in her lap. Coming inside, she quickly closed the door. Rose helped Sage down to a chair. She breathed deeply. She tapped the staff two times on the ground and two women came flying out of what seemed like nowhere.
The purple-haired woman cackled and bellowed, “never fear, Amaryllis is here!” The other woman with flowing orange hair shook her head. She gave her an annoyed look. Sage, still weakened from holding in a spell for so long, angrily derided Amaryllis. “How could you do this to me?”
While Amaryllis and Sage bickered, Parsley and Thyme rested their heads on Rose’s poofy hair, as Rose sat on the ground, a bit tired herself. One woman walked toward Torra with determination. “Hi, I’m Snapdragon,” she said. Then she asked, “what’s your name?” Torra was taken in by the beauty of this woman in front of her. She struggled for words. As her cheeks became warm and reddish, she spoke softly. “I’m Torra,” and then blurted out, without much thought, “I think your name…and orange hair is really pretty!”
Amaryllis, Sage, Parsley, Thyme, Rose all stopped what they were doing in an instant and stared at her. They were surprised that someone who just met Snap would describe her that way. It really raised Snap’s spirits. She had been feeling a little down due to struggles with transition magic. She felt much better about herself.
“Thanks so much for saying that Torra...I really like your name, your brown hair, dark grey eyes, room…and everything about you,” Snap told her. Enthusiastically, she hugged Snap and then stepped back. Everything would be ok. Buggles opened his eyes and rushed toward her. She jumped into Snap’s arms, licking her face with its lolling tongue. Torra chuckled. She was glad to see that her animal companion liked Snap. It would all be fine.
On another part of the ship, Tam bumped into Kaz who was heading down to Engineering. She groaned. “Can I talk to yau?” she asked. He nodded. He didn’t even try to feign doing any work. While he didn’t need to slack off from work to spy for the Resistance anymore, he still liked getting out of work in whatever way he could if he had an inane task. Checking up on Tam was a million times more important than doing whatever the fuck he had been told to do in engineering.
Preempting anything she was about to say, he said, “Let’s get a drink at Aunt Z’s.” Tam smiled. As they walked down the hallway, his Nikto friend was walking the other way. He tried to get Kaz’s attention. He whispered, “Neeku, I’m on an important mission right now. Sorry I can’t help you in engineering.”
Bubbly as ever, he responded, “It is okay, my friend…Tamission is top priority.” He waved and Neeku disappeared. He shook his head. Sheepishly, he added, “Sorry you had to hear that…” Tam interrupted him. She was intrigued. “Tamission. Is that sumfink abaut me?” she said, in her thick brogue.
Kaz had to tell her the truth. He had no reason to undermine her trust. “Yeah, it is, Tam. It’s only been a month since well…” Tam chuckled heartily. She tried to make a bit of a joke out of it. “I was with the First' Order, trying to kill the lot' of yau.” Kaz tried to play along. He wasn’t always the best with humor. He thought he’d try it.
“And get this, Yeager said we should shoot you down if you tried to attack us, ha!” Tam stopped in her steps. She spun around and faced him. What he said wasn’t funny. At least she didn’t think so. “Yeager said…what? I’ll get even with that toe rag!” she said, while shaking her fist.
Kaz tried to hold her back, so she wouldn’t do something she’d regret. “He…was just worried about you…the path you had taken…and willing to do whatever he could to protect all of us…luckily, he came around.” Tam began to say something, but at that moment, they entered Aunt Z’s. She already felt better. She put her arm around Kaz and remarked, “I’m so glad to have a good friend, Kaz. Ye always give it to me straight.”
Minutes later, Tam was singing at the top of her lungs, with a mug of beer in one hand, along with everyone else in the tavern. “May our Resistance flourish chuffed, united and free!” she hollered. Kaz shook his head. He didn’t know what he had gotten himself into. This would all be ok. She finished with the words, “And long may the Colossus intwine the Serpents of Space with the folds of time!” Kaz joined in, happy to sing with his friend.
***********
End note: I used the “Tamara Ryvora,” and “Torra Doza” pages on Wookieepedia, the “Torra’s quarters,” “Buggles,” and “Flight Simulator Squadron” pages on starwars.com for this story. The British Translator and Slang Dictionary was helpful in making Tam sound more British, along with dcode. I also based the final tune on “The Anacreontic Song,” the British drinking song that the Star-Spangled Banner is based on. I had done down the British slang a little, as some of the stuff became indecipherable, so it includes SOME slang, but not enough that Tam's words are distorted. I wasn't thinking of ending it the way I did originally. I added the last three paragraphs later, because I wanted to have a scene with Tam too.

I cannot wait for the next Lucasfilm enemies-to-lovers ship to come into existence. And let's be real, we all know there WILL be more 'people on opposite sides who should bang' dynamics somewhere in the trillion new books, shows, comics, and movies that they are making. Hopefully by then the fandom will have gotten used to the existence of these ships in the Star Wars universe, and we won't have such idiocy from antis prevailing again on a mass scale.
MY FRIEND, THEY ALREADY EXIST. lucasfilm has been slipping enemies-to-lovers ships into extended canon left and right since TFA came out, RIGHT UNDER OUR NOSES:
Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos from Dark Disciple (she’s a dark side Force user who used to be Dooku’s apprentice and he’s a Jedi)
Ciena Ree and Thane Kyrell from Lost Stars (they both go to the Imperial Academy but he later joins the rebellion–this one’s more like friends to lovers to enemy-lovers)
Alexsandr Kallus and Zeb Orrelios from Rebels (Kallus is an Imperial operative who participated in the genocide of Zeb’s [who’s a Rebel] people–enemies to allies to friends to heavily implied lovers)
Imanuel Doza and his unnamed wife from Resistance (this is all offscreen/preceding the timeline of the show but he was an Imperial captain who defected around the Battle of Endor and she was a Rebel pilot and they have a daughter together)
Magna Tolvan and Chelli Lona Aphra from the Aphra comics (an Imperial officer trying to chase down a criminal archaelogist but they end up like-LIKING each other)
Vi Moradi and Cardinal from the Phasma novel (this isn’t romantically canon yet but she’s a Resistance spy and he’s a First Order stormtrooper captain who interrogates her, and she ends up escaping, saving his life, and taking him with her after a bunch of shit goes down between him and Phasma and Hux)
LONG STORY SHORT, the enemies-to-lovers trope is Peak Star WarsTM and reylo is in excellent company and is really only groundbreaking in that it’s the first one depicted in the films themselves. but yes, I completely agree that I think there will be many succeeding them as well–nothing fits an epic space opera like star-crossed lovers :’)
(shoutout to @smols-darklighter who helped me compile this list and who fills in the gaps in my SW knowledge with her encyclopedic extended canon knowledge ❤️)
