Tumblr media
Joe’s mission wraps up early, so he manages to make the flight from Washington to Hawaii. It’s a spur of the moment decision, he gets to his apartment, grabs his go-bag and heads straight back out. It’s late by the time he clears customs and gets into a cab, he doesn’t expect you to be up. You’re slipping into the third trimester, and it makes you more fatigued. Most nights if he calls after ten pm, you’re dead to the world.
The light is on in the living room when he lets himself in, he can hear your voice in the kitchen talking to someone as he sets his duffle bag down by the door. It takes him a second for him to realise it’s Charlie 1.
It sends a surge of something rushing through him, it takes Joe a moment to pinpoint what it is. Fear, he thinks, not on a physical level but on an emotional one. He knows that Charlie would never hurt you, because he knows that Charlie is in love with you.
He’d caught the aftermath of what happened in Mexico, saw the way the other man hovered just a little when you’d made it back to Hawaii. He knew something had changed during that mission, not for you but for Charlie.
She saved my life; he’d told Joe over a beer before he disappeared again. Shoved me into the saferoom and locked the door, that woman never fails to throw me a curveball.
The two of them had shared a knowing smile because yea, you were always full of surprises.
Charlie drawls out your name and Joe hates it. The way he says it is familiar, low, intimate.
“You know he’s not the right person for you.” He hears Charlie say. “You know that I am.”
“Charlie…” You say and Joe can hear the weariness in your voice, sense the tiredness.
He wonders if Charlie’s right, that you chose the wrong man when you came back from Mexico but then he remembers your history. The first night he kissed you on the beach, your hand holding his after his friend Tom had died, carving your initials into that tree in the park because the time you spent together, it had been some of the best moments of his life.
“Charlie, me and you…” You sigh and he knows that you’re trying to prolong the inevitable because at the heart of it you may not love Charlie, but you don’t want to hurt him. “We’re not meant for one another. We shared a moment in Mexico but that’s all it was a moment. Even then…”
You trail off but Charlie finishes the sentence.
“You were in love with Joe.”
“I have been for a long time.” You admit.
It’s not a revelation to Joe, not really. The two of you have always had this connection, it started the moment you met in Jane Tennant’s office and has transcended far beyond his wildest dreams. He’s known the entire time that you were the woman he was meant to be with, it was always a question of timing.
“I was a distraction.” Charlie states as the realisation sinks in.
There’s hurt in his voice, it’s the first time Joe has ever heard it. The Charlie he’s used to is brash, self-assured, always wearing a smile, this is the first hint of vulnerability he’s ever seen.
“I care for you.” You say softly. “Just not in the way you want me to.”
“There’s nothing I can say or do to change your mind?” Charlie asks.
It’s his final shot, one he has to take. Joe understands that more than anyone because being with you is like stepping out into the sun. It’s feeling the warmth on his skin for the first time in forever, the glow deep in his chest when you give him that look, the one that makes him feel like he’s the only man in the world.
“No.” You say quietly. “Me and Joe, it’s real and that’s not going to change anytime soon.”
He hears Charlie’s footsteps on the laminate and Joe raises his head to meet the other man’s gaze. He sees the agony in the Charlie’s features, the anguish and he feels it viscerally because he’s been there before, the night he told you about Washington, when you both decided to end it because it was easier being apart then trying to struggle with the distance.
Charlie pauses to tug on his jacket, the one he’d slung over the back of the couch.
“Take care of her alright?” He says, his voice rough before he brushes past Joe.
He watches the other man leave before he turns his attention back to you. You’re leaning in the kitchen doorway, your palm smoothing over the baby bump, your expression a grimace.
“How much of that did you hear?” You ask him as he strides towards you.
His hands come to rest on either side of the bump, cradling his child between his hands before his gaze captures yours.
“Pretty much all of it.”
“I didn’t know.” You tell him, shaking your head. “I always thought we were on the same page.”
“I know.” Joe tells you, the edges of his mouth tipping up into a smile. “I have never had any doubts when it comes to you, about this or anything else.”
“You’re the only one for me,” You tell him, your palms coming to rest upon his chest smoothing over the muscles through the fabric of his shirt. He wraps his arms around you, his lips brushing over your hair line before he catches sight of the kitchen.
“I see Charlie left another mess to us to clean up.” He mutters as you glance over your shoulder.
“Yea.” You utter with a sigh. “That’s apparently his thing.”

Febuwhump 2023 Day 5
Read it below the line, or here on AO3 (appreciate all kudos, feedback, comments)!
“Special Agent Tennant.” Joe had approached Jane, eyeing her up and down in the elegant, yet simple dark blue dress that had accentuated her eyes.
“Captain Milius.” Jane had reciprocated the favour, appreciating how he looked in his crisp service whites.
“So, how are you enjoying this evening?”
“You know full well I am not here to enjoy the evening, but rather here for your protection.”
“Ah, so just a work assignment then?” Joe teased, eliciting a small smile from Jane.
“You know this is more than just work. I volunteered the team for this assignment.”
“Mm. And I wonder how you explained that the most senior NCIS agent on the Pacific Coast, heading up the protection detail for a Navy Captain.”
“Well, it’s good then that I don’t have to explain myself to anyone.”
The tension between the two was close to generating electricity, and Joe couldn’t wait for the event to be over – after months of being no where near the shore, he was looking to spend every moment back in Hawai’i with purpose, and with Jane.
“Any closer to identifying this threat, if any?” Joe asked, as he noticed Jane talk into her receiver.
“We’ve stopped a couple of suspicious people, but nothing concrete.”
“Maybe it was a hoax? Wouldn’t be the first time.”
“No, it wouldn’t.” Jane responded, but instantly regretted that phrase when she felt her an excruciating highly pitched tone blast through her earpiece, keeling her over, along with the rest of her team and a handful of other agents who’d volunteered for the assignment.
A commotion had built up behind her and she swung around and took out her earpiece, reaching for her gun in her purse.
It was a diversion, but Jane had only realised when an explosion rocked the room, and she heard the tell-tale shattering of windows.
She was about to turn around to locate Joe, but the sheer force had knocked her to the ground, and she instinctively covered her head with her hands, feeling the cuts on her hands from the small fragments piercing her skin.
Jesse had made his way over to her, and helped her up, dusting the shards from her hair.
“Nobody in or out, Jesse. Call it in.” Jane shouted her commands and began looking at the scene of chaos for the one person she was supposed to keep safe – Joe.
“Joe?” Jane called out, before realising that it would probably be futile, what with the explosion effectively deafening everyone.
Then the worst part begun once the initial shock had subsided, and the sounds of the wounded began to echo in the hall.
It had taken Special Agent Tennant a long time to rewire her brain to realise that screams of pain were a sign that there were survivors.
She walked towards where she’d last seen Joe, before she mentally kicked herself – of course he wouldn’t be there, the force of the blast had thrown her a couple of feet, and with Joe no doubt closer to the origin than she was, he would have been flung much further.
She stopped, getting together years of experience and instinct, and scanned the area once again, ignoring the trail of blood trickling down her left arm, and blocking out all sound.
It was about twenty seconds, before spotted a leg sticking out from under the remains of a table, covered in what was once white fabric.
“Joe!” She exclaimed again, hopping around the debris, and dragged the remnants of a table and vase off of him.
There was a nasty gash on his head, and a large shard of glass was lodged in his right leg, his blood seeping into his dress whites, permanently discolouring it.
He was out of it.
Jane grabbed a swatch of fabric that had once adored the seats, and crouched down, placing pressure around the shard, careful not to dislodge it further.
“Joe.” She called his name again, and shook his shoulders, finally stirring him back into consciousness.
“Good, you’re alright, ish.” Jane proclaimed, letting out a sigh of relief.
Joe had evidently not realised the shard sticking out of his leg, not the blood slowly trickling down his scalp as he tried to gain some traction and push himself upright.
“No, no. You stay right there.” Jane commanded in her SAC voice, and Joe listened, placing her head back on the cool floor.
“Jane.” Joe reached toward her shoulder, pointing out a piece of shrapnel lodged in her collarbone.
“Looks like that’s gonna scar, Special Agent.”
“Not as bad as the gash you’re going to have, even with the stitches.” Jane pointed out.
“Well, it would only add to my collection.” Joe had replied, pulling up his left sleeve, showcasing what was no doubt an old navy injury.
It wouldn’t be my first either. Jane thought.

All Roads Lead To Your Heart
by Kass_tanie “Commander.” The blonde woman greeted her with a curt nod. “Captain”. Lucy returned the nod, shaking the other woman's hand. The touch and a hint of perfume brought back a memory for Lucy. Fuck. Now she knew why the captain's picture had seemed familiar. Images of a dive bar flashed past her eyes. Of saving the woman she called Kate back then from a tussle with some Klingons. Her offering to buy Lucy a drink after. Things escalating from there. A fancy hotel room. The soft touch of skin on skin. AKA The Star Trek AU absolutely no one asked for but I'm writing anyways Words: 4562, Chapters: 1/?, Language: English Fandoms: NCIS: Hawai'i Rating: Mature Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Categories: F/F Characters: Lucy Tara, Kate Whistler, Jane Tennant, Jesse Boone, Kai Holman, Ernie Malik, Carla Chase, Norman "Boom Boom" Gates, Joe Milius, Original Characters Relationships: Lucy Tara/Kate Whistler Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Star Trek Fusion, Starfleet (Star Trek), half-klingon, Hurt/Comfort, Angst, Fluff and Smut, eventually, yes i know this AU is ridiculous, Vulcan via https://ift.tt/ABCTumZ

Well, I've finished S2 of NCIS: Hawai'i.
Charlie One's I'd spoiled myself about was hella anticlimatic. I mean I was ready for vicious heartbreak but it was like, meh. Also, since we did see the body more than once, I guess there's no chance of him coming back. Which is a shame, 'cause they could do a lot with him, without even taking his relationship with Tennant into an account. (Though, I'd have had a lot of fun chipping them. *sigh*) (I really do need a new ship to obsess about.)
Anyway, I'm now just disappointed instead of heartbroken. (IDK if that's better or worse, TBH.)
On the whole, it was an okay season to binge after all other shows ended. The beginning was a bit too Luc/Kate focused - I like them, but they could've spread their story arc over the whole season instead and it would work better, I think.
I did like seeing Kai becoming an actual part of the team and dealing with his family/leaving feelings as well as finally being ready to start dealing with his military past - I would like to see/learn more about that in the previous season.
My favourite part was, of course, the reappearance of captain Joe Milius. :D I do hope we see more of him in S3.
And Henry Ian Cusic guest starring in the last two episodes was a nice consolation for the above mentioned character death.
So, yeah, I am looking forward to S3, although I'll probably wait for when we get it on our TV and/or binge.

“…Gjokaj will portray a character called Joe Milius who is a high-ranking Navy captain and commander of Pacific Fleet.
In the series, he will be “protecting the honour of a dead officer who was piloting a top-secret experimental aircraft that crashed into a cliff.
"Milius, who maintains the collision was an accident, clashes with Tennant as she takes control of the investigation though he can’t help but respect her ability as a leader.”
With there being tension between the pair, could this potentially be the start of an ongoing romance?“
It’s premiering Monday, September 20, at 10pm Eastern.
—–end submission——
WHO IS ENVER GJOKAJ boy do I have a tumblr for you Also "top-secret experimental aircraft” I assume this is actually Peggy and Daniel’s grandson and he’s actually working for SHIELD
