⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⁰³ for her 16th birthday, grace received a green schecter nick johnston electric guitar, which has become her pride and joy. she affectionately refers to it as her "baby."

⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⁰⁴ among her peers, grace is recognized for her carefree attitude and her knack for making people feel like things are better than they really are. (additionally, she gained a reputation for being a bit of a troublemaker according to her teachers.)

“Slave children, both boys and girls, grew up in a community in which they were cared for by many adults, including their white mistresses. They spent precious little time with their own parents. Sometimes a mother or father had been sold to another plantation, or an enslaved child was sold away from his or her parents. Even when parents and children lived on the same plantation, both parents worked such long days either in the fields or in the big house--the house where the planter and his family lived--that they had little time left to spend with their own children.

Slave girls seldom enjoyed a carefree childhood. Often they were given chores to do at an earlier age than slave boys. By the age of four or five, they were expected to help care for the planter’s children or do small chores around the big house. At six, a young slave girl might be taken into the big house to learn to cook and clean. …By the age of 10, a female slave was considered a half-hand and she began to work longer and harder each day. Girls and boys no longer wore the same simple smocklike shirts. The girls wore dresses, usually made out of coarse cotton homespun or calico, and the boys wore rough-cut trousers. Girls began to work more closely with adult female slaves, and became more keenly aware of the different ways that men and women worked, dressed, and were expected to behave. Perhaps more important, they became fully aware of the power that whites had over their lives.

…After a violent slave revolt in Virginia in 1831, slavery became even more harsh. Slaves could no longer leave their owners’ plantations without special permission and passes; if they were caught without the required pass, punishment was swift, usually a whipping. Even a slave husband visiting his wife on another plantation was punished if caught without a pass. In Mississippi, slaves were prohibited from beating drums or blowing horns for fear they were signaling to revolt. And throughout the South, slaves could not carry guns or other weapons, gather in large groups without permission of their masters, or learn to read and write--though some owners taught their slaves, and a few slaves even attended schools with their masters’ permission.

…Some slave women could not abide the idea of bringing enslaved children into the world. With the help of a sympathetic midwife, pregnant women found ways to induce abortions. If they did not have abortions, some women resorted to killing their newborn infants rather than give the planter more slaves. In less dramatic ways as well, slave women and men resisted their owners--by doing tasks only halfway or by ‘accidentally on purpose’ breaking a mistress’s cherished vase while dusting in the big house. Some slaves also pretended to be ill and unable to work--though eagle-eyed owners and overseers caught on to that trick quickly--and others pretended not to hear a master’s instructions. If they were house servants, slaves got back at their owners by making off with scraps of food and cloth from the big house to share with fellow slaves.

…Southerners regarded the family as the cornerstone of society, the institution that protected all other southern beliefs and traditions, including slavery. Proslavery advocates even declared that men’s authority over women and slaves was ordained by God. As a result, black slave women and white planter women’s lives were intertwined, but not as sisters in spirit. They were both subject to the power of the planter but in very different ways. One was his slave, a human workhouse whom he owned. The other was his wife and the mother of his children, the embodiment of purity, innocence, and maternal love. This maternal love, of course, was supposed to extend to her slaves, though it is hard to understand how any woman so imbued with motherly concern could approve of a system that forcibly separated families and brutally treated both children and their parents.

But white women either kept their misgivings hidden in their diaries, simply accepted the harshness of slavery, or actively supported it as loyal Southerners. Slavery benefited them: The free labor extracted from the slave increased the planter’s wealth and his ability to provide his wife and children with a comfortable way of life. Slavery was a profitable system of labor that enriched all slave owners, from yeoman farmers to wealthy planters. White planter women had reason, too, to perceive their slaves as ‘our family, white and black’---such a rosy view of slavery snuffed out any moral unease they may have felt about owning slaves.

…For a planter’s wife, perhaps the most humiliating--and certainly the most visible--outcome of a sexual liaison between her husband and female slave was the mulatto offspring. Few planter women wanted to acknowledge these children as evidence of their husbands’ unfaithfulness to them. As Mary Boykin Chestnut, a slaveholder’s wife who was a keen observer of southern planter life, tartly remarked, ‘Any lady is ready to tell you who is the father of all the mulatto children in everybody’s household but her own. Those, she seems to think, drop from the clouds.’ But that did not prevent mistresses from mistreating the children of those illicit relations. They sometimes sold these children away from their mothers or treated them viciously.

Despite popular images of the mistress as a genteel lady of leisure who spent her days doing delicate needlework and sipping mint juleps on the veranda, the realities of her life were very different. Just as the family was the cornerstone of society, the planter household was the economic and moral foundation of southern life--and the mistress stood at the center of this foundation. She supervised the entire range of domestic operations on the farm or plantation, from cooking and sewing to ministering to the physical needs and religious salvation of her family and slaves.

…Beyond the big house and the slave quarters lived another group of people whose lives were almost as precarious as those of the slaves: free African-Americans. Their numbers were small compared to their enslaved brothers and sisters. By 1860, there were 250,000 free blacks in the South compared to nearly 4 million African-American slaves. Unlike northern blacks, free blacks in the South risked losing their freedom if they visibly supported antislavery efforts. Many lamented the plight of slaves, and some endangered their lives by working for the Underground Railroad. But most free blacks tried to represent themselves as honest, hard-working people who had no intention of helping to abolish slavery.”

what are your thoughts the 6 animal friends and which one do you like the most?

(Some of these takes are informed by the light novels, given their supplementary characterization of the Animal Friends - i’ve stated over and over that Save the Rainbow Islands is my favourite and the main trio feature prominently in it lmao)

Rick: Very chill, laid-back guy who loves to nap. Gives me Cool Big Brother vibes. His sheer adoration for and constant urge to impress his girlfriend in the novels is adorable. His sad pleading eyes when you pick another Animal Friend instead of him in DL3 are also adorable.

Kine: Carefree yet clumsy and deeply unlucky fella who loves his wife to bits; for better or for worse, the resident butt of jokes - Dedede even calls him “scatterbrained” in a Twitter post. I own a plushie of him that the cats like to play fetch with. Poor bastard.

Coo: Wise Owl TM, I like that the novels characterize him as the resident smart guy and only sane man among the DL2 trio. He’s certainly a bit of a loner, but I don’t think he’s lonely at all - he’s among plenty of good friends, after all.

Nago: My second favourite among the Animal Friends, on account of the fact he’s a round, fluffy calico kitty. “Though apparently, if another friend gets picked, he'll open his eyes and just glare. D-don't give in to such pressure!”

Pitch: Just a li’l guy - Dedede even compares him to a toy. I don’t have many thoughts, I’m afraid, but my friend writes Pitch semifrequently! He characterizes him as the youngest of the bunch and I think that checks out pretty well.

ChuChu: My personal favourite of the Animal Friends - adorabilis / flapjack octopus, fun, pink, and petty as fuck. I think her crush on Kirby is 100% starboarded / unrequited in a manner that’s played for laughs. She’s trying so goddamned hard.

Citizens of Marevi, Part 2

I thought this deep ocean trench was gonna take up 3 pages, but I fit it into 2. Alrighty then.

In Marevi, sea urchins are typically named after sharp things. Thorn is a sea urchin hairstylist who can clean, trim, style and dye hair. It considers itself a friend to all its customers. To it, doing your hair is one of the main and best ways to express yourself. So, it strives to help others find a hairstyle that suits them. Being considerate and mood-lifting, it’s the type of friend who will buy an extra ticket to take you to see a movie. It sounds like me, but with a lower voice. 

Dr. Lina Mako is a mako shark who’s an extremely good listener. The Marevi quintet and their families regularly go to see her for help. They talk to her about their struggles, ask her for some advice, or just chat with her. She’s an easygoing shark lady who works with her patients to make their lives worth living, or at least easy to get through. By that, I mean she doesn’t tell people what she thinks is best; she asks them if they have any thoughts and finds common ground with them.

Cell is a fictional species of fish called a calico fish. They went to visual arts school to study film with Marcella. They’re sort of easy to anger, but they’ve got techniques to keep themself composed. They’re quite pragmatic, and they focus a lot on getting things done. When they’re focused like that, they don’t like to be talked to. Cell really loves to storyboard and animate. Their name comes from film celluloids.

Eliza Vampyro is a vampire squid who is also a film school friend of Marcella’s. She’s loud, proud, and peppy. She is in tune with others’ feelings and is good at cooperating with them. Though she can be quite reckless and isn’t one for analyzing a situation, she’s amusing and witty. She’s also one heck of a director. Her headcanon voice is Eliza Schneider.

Manuel is a manta ray and another friend of Marcella’s from school. He talks pretty quietly and is a very laid-back guy. He’s one for having a good time. He’s known by others for his word play, very often making puns. You can go to more than one interest school in Botania and Marevi; Manuel did just that, going to both visual arts school and language school. He’s an up-and-coming screenwriter.

Lastly, I’ll tell about the others who were involved in Quoth the Penguin, “Nevermore!” with Spike and Natalie. SHH! I know! I KNOW! So, anyway, Basseel is a rare instance of being named after your species in Marevi. He's sometimes seen with a stony look on his face. Generally, though, he is a kind-hearted and comforting eel/bass hybrid. He sticks up for others and has a fatherly sort of nature to him. As they were working on the show, he checked in on Spike to make sure he was okay, and he still does. He played Edgar Allen Doe in the show. My headcanon voice for him is Gill from Finding Nemo.

Dorothea Houndshark, who goes by Dottie, is an 85-year-old banded houndshark. She’s nowhere near famous, but she’s been acting for most of her life. She is a humble and sincere woman who likes to try out new things. She’s comfortable doing almost anything. She was the oldest member of the cast, and she’s had a great time with them all. She played the librarian.

Eleanor and Filippa Elopsi are ladyfish, and a pair of sisters who like to perform together. Their act is called The Ladyfish Duo. Eleanor is compassionate, responsible, dutiful and well-read. Filippa is flexible, lively, firm and steadfast. Their skin breaks out quite often. El played Madeline, an infected member of a zombie apocalypse survival team. Lip played Lepidoptera from Drop Moth.

Sardino Beguino is a sardine who talks like he’s from the Unikingdom. While his friends don’t understand most things he says, they’re totally fine with it. He’s carefree and high-spirited, and he loves ballroom dancing and singing a cappella. Most people don’t know this, but he is from the outer waters of the Unikingdom. His parents, who were performing arts students in college, taught him to dance and arrange songs into a cappella versions. There aren’t nightly undersea dance parties in Marevi, but they’ve adjusted pretty well. He played the lab assistant from The Vulture Biologist’s Heart.

Prudencia is a vaquita. She is a careful and sensible person; she does things with sound thinking and consideration. She’ll speak up if something’s going on, or if she knows something isn’t right. She enjoys listening to exciting radio stories. She played the wise mermaid scholar from Kingdom in the Sea.

Angarrot is a hybrid of a parrotfish and an angelfish. She's also the rare case of your name being what you are. She isn't a very musical person, so she didn't sing in any of the songs. Outside of acting her parts, she's reserved and quiet. She played the grief-stricken narrator of Lillian.

Dolores Whiteside is a white-sided dolphin and a drummer. She was part of the backup band in the show. She's a capable cetacean who doesn't let anything stop her. She's also considerate of others' feelings, and never does anything she thinks could put them down.

Andreas is an anglerfish who is a trombonist. Like Dolores, he was also part of the backup band. He's an imaginative composer who's at his happiest when he's sharing his creations with others. He and Dolores weren't close to Spike at first, but he got to know them better over time.

Dave Seaweed is a patch of seaweed and a stage director. He directed Quoth the Penguin, “Nevermore!” and has seen other productions of it. He spreads loads of tenderness and doesn't ask for anything in return. No matter if the shows he puts on succeed or flop, he'll do them to have fun. By the way, The Penguin is a rock opera about characters from Edgar Allen Doe’s stories crossing over.

Marlibut is a marlin/halibut hybrid who calls himself Marley. He's a violinist whom Dave is romantically involved with. In addition to his role as the narrator of The Penguin, he worked with the backup band and helped them rehearse. He's also a humble guy who'd never let cheers or applause cloud his mind.

Cerise Inka is a lissome and smart squid. She is a friend of Marlibut’s and has written some songs with him. After working with her, she became one of Spike's favorite singers. Cerise played Lenore, and it was her first ever acting role.

Anglar performs under his stage name, The Sea Devil. Like Sardino's parents, he also hails from the Unikingdom. However, he's a mysterious fellow. Not much is known about him, other than the fact that he and Dave had a couple of falling-outs during rehearsals. He played the Lord of Botania in the show. Once it was over, he disappeared...

Unsurprisingly likes to play as a Sentinel, especially as Sage. Very creative with walls.

Often plays as Pocket Sage for friends-

Likes to save a lot to buy weapons for other players.

Would gladly use a different agent that is not a sentinel, like Skye, Raze, and Jett- as long as she doesn’t have to use all the abilities and just carries the team with a sheriff in the first rounds,,,, X’D)

She often experiments with many weapons as someone who just started playing shooting games- but notably seems to prefer Phantom and Ares- Pretty okay with Odin. First rounds with sheriff.

Speaks in party vc, but also unconsciously speaks to a teammate who is not in the party whom doesn’t even hear her hhhh-

Kitty is often the one to offer her and Angel to play Valo with her- and Rosalyn’s response would always be “hopcon” when saying yes. “I’m cookie” when saying no as she’s playing cookie run kingdom hhhhh-

Barely talks to outside teammates, but when Kitty or Angel points out that there’s this nice teammate who wants to tell her she’s doing a good job and to not get worried through team vc, she cries softly,,, 🥺

Intimidated by Reyna, but loves her because Mexican women are 💕💕💕💕. Even loves listening to her speaking Spanish- But still feels salty that there’s no Caribbean-born agent,,,, :’)

Angel

Besides being a Sentinel, he also can work as a Controller Main(Omen, Harbor, or Viper)just so he can protect and hide teammates from enemies just like his ability X’D.

Willing to experiment with agent gameplays a lot with Rosalyn, even switching their mains,,,, which leads to chaotic moments. Kitty finds that out and joins the shenanigans, switching agents between each other becomes a formula of disaster…. 😅🤣

Doesn’t like Chamber’s guts, but Angel is surprisingly good at playing as that agent whom teleports as an ability along with bearing a nice sheriff. Bonus points of having a sniper weapon as Ult-

So good at using operator in later rounds, it gets scary…

People who main female agents get along so well with him- probably the good, polite vibes he brings,,, Even some people who plays as male agents.

Who are all of Rumple's sexual partners? And how does she like to get down with each of them?

Good question anon.

To preface my answer, I would like to plug this ask that mentions sexual partners, this one about OTPs, and even one about cuckolding just because.

To reiterate, her main partner is Mungo for sure. Vic is a frequent but-not-so-frequent partner, Tanto is a less common but no less important occasional partner, and Tugger is a friends with benefits type thing.

In general, how does she like to get down with others? Probably something like this, but that is merely one way of many ways. Otherwise anon, Rumple is different with each of her different partners. They all bring a unique energy and attitude that makes the experience exciting and very fulfilling.

For Mungo, they are unrestrained together with their sexual shenanigans. Anything is realistically open for exploration if they desire. They both feed off of the other, and there is absolutely no point where they are not having a mind-blowing time together. Rumple takes the reigns the majority of the time with her little guy, and mostly directs what she is expecting in the moment. For more detailed descriptions, I would point to the fics I have written to inform some options. They are fairly good at painting scenes, so read this or this if inclined.

For Vic, there is a rather carefree and fun dynamic between both queens. The beginning of this ask actually describes it quite well. They are friends firstly and lovers second, and end up tangled in each other's arms from sometimes innocent meet-ups that had different intentions. Regardless, they have an eagerness to make the other cum. Vic's teasing side comes out more with Rumple because she likes hearing the smaller queen whine. Specifically, she will edge her along and deny a bit until the calico is begging.

In terms of specifics for Mungo or Vic, I do suggest you pull up my archive of posts, and search for a specific term (or ask and I will find it). I have written about their relationships in a multitude of posts over the last few years, so it would nice and lengthy (but time consuming to collect) if everything was gathered on up.

For Tanto, she is on a level playing field. All of the teasing and more mischievous qualities are totally negated in favour of treating Tanto with a level of love, care, and lust that could be considered unusual for the calico. Rumple tries her hardest to make the other queen feel beautiful and appreciated. Nothing specific is a want, so whatever they get up to together is cherished. As with Mungo, I would like to link a fic that gives some perspective. They are an opposites attract type of relationship, but both equally committed to making the other queen shake from their touch.

For Tugger, she ends up being a rather bratty switch of sorts becuase she would not really choose to do that as much with her other partners. She loves to tease the hell out of him knowing full well that he will give it back to her just to hear her whine. On Found Family aka Kitae Reflecting on members of Sky House & Trickster Part 1/?

Hyojin is peace.

Even after years of knowing each other, Kitae has never once taken anything that Kim Hyojin has said for granted. Wise beyond his years from simple maturity, while he is the second youngest, you would think he was older than Seungkwan. Every major life event he's been through has had Hyojin by his side. Even when they both lost someone they thought was their forever, not once did Hyojin bring his worries into play. "It's because we're each other's person." Hyojin would say with the most carefree shrug. He's sure that if the world were ending, Hyojin would put himself in Kitae's place. It's less than he deserves, but Hyojin is the most loyal person in his life outside of his family; his cat-eared calico cat hybrid older brother.

Mikey is justice.

Kitae has never known Mikey to take anything lightly. Perhaps that's why Jinwoo was his second in command. When he signed his contract with Sky House and eventually Trickster, Mikey was very clear on the terms. How he could still have his freedom while still watching the rules of the game. He's seen how hard Mikey has worked to get Sky House to where it is; a highly profitable content creation house that he refuses to sign over to anyone. Over his dead body, he says. He thinks it's silly at first, but when he loses his first great love and they need to do an add-on to the mansion, it's Mikey who says that no one is to approve any architects for the project except for him, on pain on contract termination. It's then he realizes that his ex, an architect, was who Mikey was making sure never entered a place that Kitae deemed his safest place; right with Sky House.

Jinwoo is gentleness.

While Mikey is the most outgoing one in a sense of seriousness of business, Jinwoo is the one who truly creates the mood. He watches when he's with Solbin, Mikey's wife, and Mikey. How the mood will instantly change with a few of Jinwoo's lighthearted jokes. He knows they've grown up together, that they would spend nearly every day after school together before Mikey and Solbin became trainees. Jinwoo is old money, a nepotism baby who has never denied his position due to his mother's company. When he's the most heartbroken, it's Jinwoo who sits by his side and lets him sob. Jinwoo has been through a lot, it's that night that Jinwoo confides in him how he'd been married before his enlistment. Of course he knew about the marriage. Hell, he'd gone to the wedding! But he'd never known about why he got divorced. Jinwoo has a strength he wishes he had.

It's weird to me, other people's view on childhood. A lot of people talk about childhood like this magical time where they had no worries or fears, or a time where they explored the world in wonder.

And I realized in my healing that I never really experienced that. I never really felt carefree and able to express and love without extreme reservation the way that children are typically able to do.

I feel like I was born into a situation that wasn't ideal for me, and I was always very aware of that.

It's not like anyone told me, it's just something I always remember knowing. And when you're a child, it really just feels like it's your fault that things are the way they are.

I grew up knowing that being born severely disrupted my mom's life, because she was still in high school when I was conceived, and she would always remind me throughout my upbringing how horrible and traumatic being a young mother was.

And I know her goal was to warn me, to keep me from having children too young, but really what I heard as a child was that I ruined her life.

As an adult, healing my inner child was really necessary, and a big part of that was recognizing why I was carrying a lot of negative views of myself with me all this time.

Recognizing that wearing cat ears, collecting Calico friends, and isolating was my inner child being unable to cope.
