I don’t mind at all, in fact im grateful to answer!

I go by any pronouns and I love to study Caribbean indigenous history and Latinamerican history. But when it comes to a time period, as of late I’ve been researching a lot about 1850-1900 Caribbean history! (And a bunch of fashion history as well)

I would love to learn Chinese dialects like Cantonese since I already have the mandarin foundation for it. Other than that I would love to learn russian and indigenous languages 💚 liklanguageslalikeNaNahualt 💚

🌴🍉Jamaica's national dish, with caution!!!

The ackee is a fruit belonging to the Sapindaceae family, including lychees and longans. It is native to tropical West Africa and was brought to Jamaica in 1778, where it became the national tree. Ackee and saltfish are Jamaica's national dish popular throughout the Caribbean. 

However, it's important to note that only cracked and ripe ackee fruit is edible. This is because the immature fruit contains high levels of hypoglycin A, which can be toxic. In mature fruits, the content of hypoglycin A is only 0.1ppm, whereas in immature fruits it can be as high as 1000ppm. Excessive ingestion of hypoglycin A and hypoglycin B can cause Jamaican vomiting sickness, also known as a toxic hypoglycemic syndrome (THS), which can lead to acute vomiting and even death. This syndrome is common in the Caribbean and Western African countries.

How to search text in unsearchable pdfs

introduction: do you lose all motivation to complete your assignments when you're faced with a pdf that you can't search? would you like a rather simple and 100% free solution to make the text in any pdf searchable? well read on :)

step 1: download onenote. did you know onenote is 100% free for everyone? yes even mac users! just go to https://www.onenote.com/downloadand click download

step 2: open your pdf. (sometimes when i try to do step 3 using my pdf reader or the firefox browser it crashes but it never fails with microsoft edge this might be the only issue with this procedure.) in the image below i've demonstrated that the pdf is open in microsoft edge and i've used the search feature to search a word that is visible in the pdf but the search doesn't return any results

step 3: click the print button/icon and select onenote (desktop) n.b. the max. file size you can print is 100 mb my file here has 35 pages and is bigger than 100 mb so i printed 6 - 20 first then 21 - 35 and that worked so for larger documents you'll have to split the pages which might be a bit inconvenient and admittedly lengthen the process but in the name of academia sacrifices must be made

step 4: once the pages are ready which will take a while depending on how many pages you're printing this dialogue box will appear in onenote. just select wherever you want the file to be printed and click ok

step 5: the file will appear and now it's searchable. below i demonstrated searching a word in the pdf and the search results do find it this time!

bonus tip: you can also copy the text from the document by right clicking and selecting copy text from the page / all pages of the printout. the results aren't always accurate and for larger images and pdfs i find it easier to screenshot the a smaller area and extract the text from that rather than the entire document or page

conclusion: onenote has a searchable text option that makes the text in images, file inserts and handwritten notes searchable so yeah you can also do the same thing with pictures. when you download onenote it comes with a few pages outlining what you can use it to do so it's helpful to familiarize yourself with its abilities. i'm only familiar with doing this on a laptop so i can't say for sure if it's possible on the android or apple app but i presume if your device can print it would probably also work.

studyblr faux pas to leave in 2017

Practice what you preach: stop making super long posts about the fact that having super fancy and expensive stationery is unnecessary / useless but meanwhile ALL your oc is ft muji gel pens, leuchtturm bujos and tombow brush pens. SHOW people instead. Post a few non-studyblr-aesthetic pics once in a while.

Motivation < Self Discipline: yes watching successful girls like Elle Woods and Hermione Granger is slightly inspirational but lbr neither of them are going to do your work for you. Hoping for that burst of motivation all the time is useless. It's not always gonna come when you want it to. That's why you need self discipline. Even when you're feeling lazy, your self discipline will get you up and running because you are disciplined enough to know what needs to be done and when.

For the sake of your studyblr: stop rewriting your notes to look like artwork just so you can take a pretty picture of it, if it doesn't help you. Study in a way that suits you. There are tons of masterposts about techniques and strategies for different learning types. There are also tons of quizzes online to help you determine which one you are if you don't know.

What's really important: this amazing community is here to encourage you to keep learning. It's a place to find great resources; meet kind, helpful people; learn new tips and tricks for studying; etc. It is not only about aesthetics. Use your studyblr to the fullest. Ask for help, give advice, make friends!!! At the end of the day this is about your education. No amount of notes on a really cute post will magically give you an A on the history test you didn't really study for.

How much is enough: we all know how tumblr is 5 minutes actually equals about 2 hrs. some people can afford to be on tumblr 24/7 and that's great buuuuuut if you know that it's gonna distract you from your work put it aside. Enable two step verification and log out so even if you are tempted to slack off when you should be working you'll have to face that before getting back into mindlessly scrolling thru your dash nobody likes two step verification but it serves a purpose

A short comp of my dive footage from a shark dive with Stuart's Cove in the Bahamas. These Caribbean reef sharks are immensely strong, and this vortex of them was literally pushing me back like a strong wind. This is prime ecotourism - sharks are extremely misunderstood, and this is a great way of introducing people to their true nature. I'm always conflicted when sharks are brought in with food incentive, but the reality is that each shark only receives a small amount of food, ensuring that they will still go out and fill their ecological niche.

This morning I worked a bunch on a discussion response for my history elective. I completed about 2/3rds of a long photonics lecture, a short energy lecture and surfaces lecture (pictured on the left). I really need to be working on a Matlab assignment but I’ve been putting it off because it looks too hard 😣 gonna have to work on it all day tomorrow.

Throughout today I’ve been watching the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie and finished it in the evening before bed. I love the first 3 movies in the series soo much, they’re just done so well! Definitely nostalgic to rewatch

hi friends im back;; its been a hot minute *looks away in shame*

I told myself that i would make all sorts of content and posts that i always wanted to before but the truth is that the last set of secondary school exams were a really trying time (even waiting for and receiving the results were tons of drama) and so i honestly spent my vacation doing absolutely nothign (dont regret one second of it, i deserved it T.T).

so after that i said id start back posting when uni started but WHEW WAS I IN FOR A RIDE (oh yeah btw i did get into uni, cant remember if i told yall, im studying linguistics as i planned to). i still have a month to go in this semester but its been a really interesting experience tbh

ONE THING THO!!!! ive been soooo much happier at university than at secondary school, i actually have time to just relax and have fun in between classes uwu

i cant promise that ill post regularly right now but ill absolutely try to be more active come next semester. i have a lot of projects rn and exams soon (and i still have lots of studying to d) but i really miss being on here :(
