If I had a nickel for every time ...
... a M|M ship with major parental issues were high school sweethearts undercover (both having one of their fathers assaulting them after he found them together), went years going in and out of each other's lives (including one entering the military, religious fanaticism, and jail time in respective orders), then got engaged in the third-to-last episode of a season, and married in the finale, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
Fuck The CW for not giving Malex a honeymoon season and making me actually grateful to John Wells for some thing other than actually showing the ins and outs of Gallavich’s relationship *side-glances heavily at Carina and Chris*.

TV Writer/Showrunner Carina Adly Mackenzie [creator of Rosewell, New Mexico] talks about why AI is bad for the industry. If you're not terrified for everyone in the industry (including the audience) who isn't a non-creative suit calling the money shots, you should be.

Something to show anyone who thinks actors are all paid too much:
Tumblr media
[ID: tweet from carina adly mackenzie @/cadlymack that says, "Had a convo on the picket line with a series reg on a Netfix show who makes $5k per ep. That is $50k per year. Take out 25% for reps, you’re at $37,500 without accounting for taxes. Half of a comfortable living wage in Los Angeles. The show requires them to live in Los Angeles." end ID.]

In May, The CW pulled the plug on seven shows, including “Roswell, New Mexico,” which was airing its fourth season. On Monday night, the drama aired its final episode — one that showrunner Chris Hollier and the writers planned on being the Season 4 finale, not the final episode ever.
During the last episode, Max (Nathan Parsons) headed off to save the world through portal — one that would allow him to return and live happily ever after with Liz (Jeanine Mason), who he still intended to eventually marry.
“There was one change afterwards where the console melted, and Liz would feel like, ‘Oh no, I just got engaged and maybe he’s trapped there forever.’ It was the only thing we removed,” he tells Variety, noting that the finale was built otherwise just “in case” the network chose to pull the plug.
Still, Hollier was prepared to do one more season.
“I loosely had to pitch [the network] and had to get them to sign off on letting me [have Max] go away. And they’re like, ‘Well, when does he come back?’ was the next question. They’re our first audience. So yes, there was a plan actually, of how to round it out assuming that the fifth season would be our last,” he says. “We had some time jumps built in to actually tell stories we’ve collapsed down into weeks. We wanted to actually stretch out and jump to three different times over the next couple of years for all of our characters.”
He adds, “I’m very fortunate for the time we had, but you always feel like we had one more bullet in the chamber.”
Luckily, the finale included key moments for some of the main characters, including Liz and Max getting engaged. Throughout the episode, Max battled with whether he should return to Oasis without her. In the end, he had to go — and there was never a plan to have him stay. Simply, it’s a TV show and there’s no drama in that.
“We left it open with a hopeful feeling that lets people’s imaginations fill in what happened next when he returned,” Hollier says.
Hollier also shed light on Michael (Michael Vlamis) and Alex’s (Tyler Blackburn) wedding, one that fans have been anticipating for a long time. After they tied the knot, Michael performed Edwin McCain’s “I’ll Be,” which was the perfect fit for multiple reasons.
“Look, we have all the ’90s to choose from! We were trying to figure out what song, trying to figure out if there was a perfect Counting Crows song,” Hollier recalls. “It was also a little bit born out of a joke when [original showrunner] Carina [Adly MacKenzie] was on the show. We kept joking if we couldn’t get a song, like, ‘I wonder what Edwin McCain’s doing right now?’ It sort of stayed in my head. I thought it was a fun way to kind of honor that as well.”
Shiri Appleby, who played Liz in the original “Roswell” and made a cameo earlier in the series, returned for the episode to help Liz Ortecho.
“This was always a plan. She’s such a huge part of the original ‘Roswell.’ We wanted to try to tell a story with her and we wanted to honor our own ‘Roswell,’ and who our Liz is. In a theme of mentorship, we thought she would be the ultimate mentor, because that she was a mentor for us,” says Hollier. “Being with both of our Liz’s in the diner was a powerful moment. When she puts on the antennas, it was a special moment on set.”

How Well Does Roswell, New Mexico Do in Representing Native Americans?
“I don't believe in color-blind casting. I want characters' experiences to reflect their ethnicity,” states Carina Adly Mackenzie, the creator of Roswell, New Mexico. Although that was the vision, the show does not do a good job representing the races of the characters. Roswell, New Mexico has many Native American characters, but fails to properly display their identity.
Tumblr media
The role of Rosa Ortecho was played by a Native American actress, Amber Midthunder. In an interview, Midthunder stated, “she’s put a lot of thought into the question of playing characters with various backgrounds.” The actress also states, “‘This is not my culture’ and getting the blessing of the people who’s culture it is.” Amber conveyed that she is a non-Mexican playing the role of one and how she feels about that. She said that although she feels most in touch with my ethnicity, she is New, Mexico bred and born, so she felt at home in some ways.
Many characters on the show are not given the opportunity to showcase how Native Americans truly are in modern day. For example, Alex Manes. The show focuses on his disability and involvement in the LGBTQ+ community and never once on this ethnicity. The audience does not even know he is Native American until his brothers, Flint and Gregory, show up later on. Even with his brothers, their ethnicity is barely brushed on. They do later on show the audience that Gregory lives on a Native American reservation.
Tumblr media
Towards the end of season one, episode nine, Liz, Max, Michael, and Maria head to Texas to see a faith healer. There they see a Native American woman perform magically healing but come to find out everything was an act. When Max goes to talk to the healer, he was told their acts are fake because people believe Native Americans are capable of healing. The healer and her mother were dressed traditionally to fit the part as well. From this we are able to see that Roswell, New Mexico did try to make things clear in regard to their attire and career. At the end of the day this would have only worked if they used the other characters to portray that their ethnicity is not the only thing one needs to focus on to get a job.
Tumblr media
To go along with seeing the lives of Native Americans, later in season two, Gregory Manes is brought to our attention. Alex takes his friends to see his brother in hopes they gain more information about their history. In episode ten, we can that Gregory lives at the Navajo reservation. This was where his mother grew up, and Gregory knew that Louise Truman was believed to be a healer. Gregory was the main character that lives out his Native American heritage in a way by living on a reservation and knowing information about his ancestors.
Tumblr media
In conclusion, Roswell, New Mexico does not do a good job representing Native Americans. First reason being they have a Native American actress playing the role of another race. Second being one of their main characters is Native American but the show never brings up that part of him. Instead of speaking on Alex’s ethnicity, they bring it up through his brother. Although Roswell, New Mexico tried, they failed to properly represent.

In Jet’s audition sides it was a big plot point that Maddox graduated high school, that scene seems to be coming up so we’ll see if they keep that detail or not but I think she has to be out of high school to be a CIT. Basically I think only Jet could transfer to East High, not Maddox.
Oops, don't know when this was initially sent to my ask box. Sorry for only getting to it now. But, for future reference, I likely won't reply to anything about audition sides since those aren't really meant for my eyes, only the actor reading them and the person who wrote them.
Carina Adly MacKenzie spoke a bit about this on TikTok if you're interested in watching it. I find it fascinating.

I can simply side-eye the 🏳️‍🌈 and the 😍😍😍.
It’s who, of all people, liked it that has me laughing to stop from wanting to punch a wall. Raise your hand if you think that Kristen might need to meet the same fate in this fucked up tale of would-be déjà vu.🖐🏻
I’m not holding out hope.*
