I'm not sure if this exists on tumblr yet, but here's the transcript of Avad's letter to the Nora during the Proving.

"An annunciation of gratitude, written by the hand of Sun-King Avad, 14th Luminance of the Radiant Line:

People of the Nora,

On the eve of your Proving, know the Carja stand with you as the Sun's light frames the stoutest trees. As those you have nurtured take their places among your Braves, we join your prayers that they will stand tall in the Sun.

I am grateful for your audience, to be taken into your embrace. I thank the wisdom of your elders, the mercy of your mothers. With our tribes united in trade and in trust, I pray that the Nora may never again mourn the death of a child in battle.

We do not forget our history. We do not forget the sins of my father. We do not forget the Nora children who bravely defended your land. Their blood is a stain on the honor of the carja. Anyway, here are all the settlements/important locations in the world of Horizon from both games. I tried to get them as close to the real world locations as possible although there was a lot of guesswork involved. The game maps are definitely distorted or scaled differently from the real world so stuff didn’t always fit exactly where it should.

Plainsong and Scalding Spear were both frustrating too because they’re based on real-world places but those places are nowhere close to where they appear in the game map. So I went with the approximate location of where they would be because having them stuck way off somewhere didn’t feel right.

I made this for my own fanfiction purposes because it was bothering me to read how Aloy could spend a day traveling between Vegas and San Francisco in other fics and I am too hung up on realism lmao. So I will be trying to stick to real world distances and travel time estimates in mine I think. But if you see anything that looks incorrect or know something more about real-world places, let me know and I will update it! Anyone is welcome to use this as a reference if they’d like, and I’d actually like to find a way to share the real Google Earth map to interact with it.

Quen Weapons

I love that the main Quen Melee weapon is basically a Macuahuitl, a Nahua weapon that was a club lined with obsidian blades somewhat like teeth. This version looks like it’s been constructed from parts of a snapmaw jaw and lined with the teeth. I love when Horizon puts a new spin on design templates from our world - it’s like the idea that, given the chance, we will figure out the same survival strategies because it’s in our nature.

It does make me wonder where the Quen are technologically- obviously the Focuses gave them a huge boost in terms of access to old world tech and data, but there’s not really a reason to have a weapon like this if you have widespread access to metal forging like say, the Oseram. Their armor seems to back this up - it’s almost entirely machine armor and woven materials. Based on what we’ve seen they’re clearly extremely skilled with textiles, woodworking and ceramics, and they have extremely powerful heavy weapons and ballistae. Maybe it’s just cheaper for the empire to outfit soldiers with weapons made from salvage.
