AN: So, I wrote this before season 3, might have written it immediately after 2x13? Not really sure- and then I completely forgot about it lol. So I figured I might as well post it since it's been written.
"I'm sorry this is so last minute, TK."
TK smiled. "It's no problem, Cap," he assured Tommy, taking the girls' backpacks from her and putting them on the couch. She and the girls followed.
"If you need anything, please call me?"
"Cap, we're gonna ba fine."
She let out a breath, rubbing at her forehead like she's trying to fend off a headache. "Everything okay with you?"
Tommy sighed. "Yeah. I'm just- this new crew is something else."
"Aw, do you miss us?" He teased her, offering her a cup of coffee.
She took it, and huffed out a laugh. "Oh, absolutely."
"You, Nancy and Tim had a rough start, too, right? Maybe you just need some time," he said in an attempt to make her feel better.
"Maybe," she said with a small smile. "Thank you again for doing this."
He beamed. "Any time," he told her, "we love having the girls over."
"They love coming here, too. Carlos is very popular in our household," she told him dryly.
TK laughed.
.
After Tommy left, TK was left alone with the two girls. He wasn't exactly nervous, but this was the first time he would have to watch them alone for an extended period of time. Carlos was a lot better than him at it.
He sat on the far end of the couch, fiddling with his phone as they watched their morning cartoons. His phone rang, and he felt his lips stretch into a grin when he saw his boyfriend's name.
"Hey, you," he greeted him, and got two identical disapproving looks from the twins.
He lifted up a hand in surrender. "Hold on," he muttered quietly as he got up and went to the kitchen, "the girls take Abby Hatcher very seriously," he told Carlos, who huffed a laugh.
"Yeah, I know. Amphibia, too," Carlos exclaimed.
TK chuckled. "Yeah. How's your day been?" He asked as he poured himself a cup of coffee.
"Not much going on- just doing paperwork."
"Oh, I bet you're loving that."
Carlos groaned. "It's killing me, TK."
He laughed.
"Hey, do we need anything from the store?"
TK hummed and opened the fridge, scanning the shelves quickly. "Orange juice," he told him, "the girls love it- oh, and some toast, too."
"OJ and toast, got it. Alright, I'll see you in a couple of hours."
"Okay. I love you," he said with a smile, "stay safe."
"Love you, too, babe."
.
TK should have known suggesting a water balloon fight would not end well for him.
The girls ended up teaming up on him, and Evie in particular had a strong right arm and freakishly good aim. TK had planned to go easy on them, but if he was being honest, now he was wishing they would go easy on him.
He'd been trying, with very little success, to get them to stop the game and go inside, but they weren't done torturing him yet apparently because all his latest suggestion got him was a water balloon to the gut.
God, he couldn't wait for Carlos to get home.
.
When Carlos got home, he was surprised to find it empty.
"TK?"
That was when he heard the girls' shrieks.
"That's cheating!"
"All's fair in love and war, Iz," his boyfriend called out, and this was followed by some laughter mixed with some more screaming from the twins.
Carlos put the grocery bags on the counter and wandered outside.
He didn't alert the three to his presence, merely stood back and watched his boyfriend run after the girls, hose in hand and spraying them with water.
He took a few seconds to just watch TK. His grin was wide and his cheeks were flushed-
happiness was a good look on him.
His gaze wandered down, to the white shirt clinging to his torso, and Carlos felt an urgent need to touch him.
He did his best to ignore it, seeing as the girls were there and there was really nothing he could do about it.
"Having fun without me?"
Three heads snapped up to look at him, and seconds later, the girls were running towards him.
He was soaking wet by the time they let him go, and he saw TK stifling a laugh at his expense as Carlos' shirt clung to his sides uncomfortably.
Carlos, without taking his eyes off TK, who was slowly making his way towards him, addressed Evie and Izzy. "Girls, why don't you two go change? I'll start on lunch soon."
They both nodded immediately and TK huffed. "You didn't even have to repeat it once."
Carlos grinned smugly.
Once the girls disappeared inside, Carlos wasted no time in closing the distance between him and TK.
TK came willingly, a lazy smile on his face as he let Carlos drag him into his arms for those last two steps. His cold arms settled around Carlos' neck, and he shivered. Carlos' own arms wrapped around his waist, and he pulled him close, not even caring about how wet his own shirt was now.
He kissed him, slow and sweet, and responded with equal desire when TK deepened it. TK's nails scratched at the hairs at the base of his neck, and Carlos pulled him closer still, his hands moving down to rest on his sides now, under the shirt. "Missed you today," he muttered against his lips.
TK pulled away and smiled fondly, one hand on Carlos' cheek. "Missed you too," he said quietly, then shivered again.
Carlos pulled him in again, the kiss deeper, and got lost in it. It didn't matter that they were both soaking wet and shivering now, all that mattered was this- them.
"Carlos," TK muttered against his lips, "the girls."
"They're-"
"Right here," the twins said, and when they looked at them, they had the exact look of exasperation on their faces.
Carlos blushed, disentangling himself from TK. "I thought you girls were changing."
"We need towels," Evie informed them.
Carlos turned to look at TK, who looked to be struggling against the urge to laugh, and rolled his eyes as he grabbed his hand. "Let's go get the girls some towels."

the twin looks of annoyance as carlos walks over, the three feet of space between charles and carlos vs. charles and max being pressed up against each other. thank you vegas.
albums i would play for each driver on the 2024 F1 grid to expand their music taste
Max Verstappen: Graceland by Paul Simon - As a fan of classic and folk rock, I'd imagine Max has been exposed to Simon and Garfunkel and I think he'd enjoy the sprawling, detailed, careful expanse of Simon's solo masterpiece. Angels in the architecture spinning in infinity, etc etc
Checo Perez: Ramomex by Rebel'd Punk - One of the Mexican bands who pioneered punk music in the country, but Checo probably missed this release because he was too busy karting and moving to europe as a teen. It's never too late to have a proper angry punk phase, though.
Charles Leclerc: Ten Love Songs by Susanne Sundfør - Groundbreaking, life-altering pop music that pushes every boundary. This hits the sad songs craving and I think would interest him as a musician and burgeoning songwriter.
Carlos Sainz: Ultraviolence by Lana Del Rey - daddy issues. I just know he'd vibe out to Brooklyn Baby.
Lando Norris: Destiny by DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ - I dream of sitting him down and exposing him to actually good, interesting, fun contemporary dj music.
Oscar Piastri: Speaking in Tongues by Talking Heads - He has that certain David Byrne swag and demeanor of someone who'd love the Talking Heads if only given the chance.
Fernando Alonso: 10,000 gecs by 100 gecs - At first the old man would be extremely confused but once he was on board he would be blasting The Most Wanted Person In The United States all day every day.
Lance Stroll: Talon of the Hawk by The Front Bottoms - that post that's like the problem is men are making podcasts instead of forming midwest emo bands. but it's men are becoming f1 drivers instead of forming midwest emo bands. I think some TFB exposure could be the spark of inspiration for a great career pivot.
Lewis Hamilton: Maps by billy woods and Kenny Segal - I fear Lewis might have been too worried about Merc's performance last year to have checked out this fantastic collaboration that was one of 2023's best albums.
George Russell: Contra by Vampire Weekend - I just saw Vampire Weekend live following the release of the new album and at the show there was a guy a few feet ahead of me in the merch line who had the exact same energy as GR. The mix of prep vibes and world music would work into his taste while expanding his listening beyond coldplay.
Yuki Tsunoda: GLOW ON by Turnstile - 100% a selfish pick, I want to mosh with Yuki in the pit of a Turnstile pit.
Daniel Ricciardo: The Panhandlers by The Panhandlers - A country supergroup I return to time and again, wistful and nostalgic, making you yearn for West Texas no matter where in the world you are.
Alex Albon: Pelican West by Haircut 100 - Funky British jazz pop, perfect for dancing and vibing.
Logan Sargeant: Crying, Laughing, Waving, Smiling by Slaughter Beach, Dog - I fear Logie might be too young or too norm core to have had a proper Modern Baseball phase (it's never too late logie! listen to Intersection!) but Ewald's 2023 offering seems like something he missed last year that's perfectly up his alley.
Valtteri Bottas: Merriweather Post Pavillion by Animal Collective - Weird and complex, I think he should throw it on while on a long bike ride and let his mullet fly in the breeze.
Zhou Guanyu: God Save the Animals by Alex G - no you don't understand i need him to listen to Alex G he would love it
Kevin Magnussen: Heaven or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins - Ethereal music he can feel and let wash over him in a wave to relax and transcend the horrors of driving for Haas.
Nico Hulkenberg: Supernatural by Santana - dad music but make it funky and good
Pierre Gasly: Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans by Uffie - A perfect twist on early 2000s French electronic music, I think it'd remind him of the club while sounding entirely new and make him want to pick up a side dj gig of his own.
Esteban Ocon: Lescop by Lescop - French indie pop-rock! His most recent album is fantastic, but Este should check out Lescop's 2013 debut first.
following a conversation with @liamlawsonlesbian and her definitive book rec list i'm doing something similar for music (she bullied me into posting this sorry). large range in popularity/mainstream-ness of artists depending on the driver and what i think they're already listening to.
It’s supposed to be a 5 +1 (3+1???) of tarlos babysitting the kids in their lives including Jonah, Charlie, and the Vega twins.

“That’s the pediatrician's number—office and cell, my number, Gracie’s number—.”
“I have both of your numbers already,” TK interrupts.
“Well, now you got them again,” Judd continues, “this is Grace’s mama, her daddy, my daddy, and my brothers. Call them in order, all right? Don’t start with Travis, he’s basically useless in an emergency.”
“Why would I ever call them?”
“In case you can’t get a hold of us.”
“Judd, you’re going out to dinner. You’ll be six blocks away.”
“I’m just making sure you’re covered.”
TK scoffs and waves the piece of paper in front of Judd’s face. “You did not write 9-1-1 down on this paper.”
“Judson Ryder,” Grace calls from the doorway. She’s already handed Charlie and Charlie’s diaper bag over to Carlos, who has the bag over his shoulder and the three month old in his arms.
“If we miss this reservation…”
“We ain’t gonna miss it,” Judd tells her, “I’m just taking the time to make sure our daughter is in good hands.”
“Good hands?” She asks. “This is a dual-certified firefighter-paramedic and a police officer. What better hands are you gonna find?”
Judd shrugs, at a loss, and Grace rolls her eyes.
“I need a break,” she tells him, “I need a night out. We could be handing this girl off to a rodeo clown and I would be okay with it. I did not get all dressed up to stand here and listen to you grill these boys.”
“I’m not grilling these boys,” Judd says before he points a finger at TK. “It’s this boy.”
“Why do I get the bad wrap?” TK asks. “We’re going to have a fun night. We're going to have a little dinner, and then it’s bathtime, we’ll read some books, sharpen the steak knives, see what brand of bleach tastes the best…”
From the doorway Carlos sighs and Judd’s jaw clicks.
“Reyes,” Judd says, “I’m trusting you on this one.”
“We’ll be fine,” Carlos tells him. “No knives, no bleach. Matches are okay though, right?”

Okay, first what is your favorite Tarlos fic you’ve ever written and why? Second if you could steal any piece of art or decor from any of the Lone Star sets what would it be and why?
Lemooooon! Thank you for this nice ass(k) that you don't remember ass(k)ing me 😂😂😂.
I think my favorite Tarlos fic that I've written is Requesting Immediate Backup. Sicky, cranky, miserable Carlos being ganged up on by T.K. and Andrea? Delightful to write and delightful for me to re-read!
As for the art and decor...I think this is probably cheating a little, but the decorations from the Vega twins' birthday party lol. It was so bright and fun looking! Idk where I'd keep it in my apartment, but I'd figure it out lol!
“It’s a hot one today, folks. Temperatures dipping up into the mid-eighties in some regions. So grab your friends and family and get on down to Santa Monica to soak up this late October heat.”
TK tunes out the radio that’s playing throughout the room, trying to focus in on Grace again and the way she demonstrates how to drop the ‘R’ sound from the end of his words, but the next comment makes it impossible to pry his attention away completely.
“Well speaking of hot ones Rick, word on the street is MGM has a couple of new actors making their debut in an upcoming film.”
“That’s right, Frank. Both Nancy Gillian and Tyler Kennedy Strand have begun filming for The Monterey Room alongside seasoned veterans like Julia Ainsley and Carlos Reyes. The group along with another fan favorite Mateo Chavez were spotted grabbing a bite in Beverly Hills this past weekend.”
“I believe this is only the start of what is going to be a successful career for Ms. Gillian. Taking on the role of the speakeasy’s jazz singer, she’s sure to have a voice on her that’ll open up doors far beyond the world of film.”
“And then there’s Tyler Kennedy.” TK holds his breath. “Now, he’s just a supporting role, but I still say Carlos better watch out. If he’s not careful, America might have a new leading man.”
He looks back to Grace in time to see her shake her head. “There they go again, always trying to make something out of nothing.”
She’s taken over his voice lessons today as an experienced actor herself and as a close friend of Tommy. The Vega twins are turning ten and since Tommy calls a majority of the shots around here, she took a well-earned day off. That leaves just Grace and him in a side room while he’s not needed on set and while this is TK’s first real interaction with her, he’s taking a liking to her already.
“You sound like you're speaking from experience,” he muses.
“I’ve had my fair share of gossip spilled about me, that’s for sure,” she huffs. “Most have no basis anyway. Just people looking to stir up a story to make them a dollar.”
TK frowns. “I’m not looking to steal anything from Carlos. Not press and surely not his roles,” he feels the need to clarify, to assure Grace that whatever story the radio talk show hosts are trying to spin is another one of those without any basis. “He’s a talented actor and deserves all the recognition he gets.”
Grace stares at him and he tries to conceal his blush at gushing over the man, dropping his head down to flip the page of his script as a cover up.
“I don’t doubt that, but as I said,” she shrugs, “it’s an easy story to spread. One that gets people whispering, especially seeing as you two are working on the same film. What they fail to consider is that not only do you say you’re not aiming for that, but even if you were Carlos isn’t the type to care. He’s here because he likes acting, not because he feels the need to hold some non-existent spot at the top.”
The description she gives of Carlos is authentic and good-hearted, and it makes TK wonder if Grace is close to him personally or if she’s just that good at reading people. He suspects it may be a bit of both. “His humbleness is admirable,” he agrees.
“Something tells me he wouldn’t mind sharing the spotlight with you, however,” she adds after a moment of silence. “Someone who seems to hold the same values as him.”
TK bites back a smile at the thought. Not only that he and Carlos seem to be relatively alike, but at what it would be like to succeed like that together. He clears his throat, shaking the image out of his mind. “How do you handle it? The rumors and lies spread about you, how do you not let it bother you?”
She closes her script all together, giving TK her undivided attention as he does the same. “You learn to tune it out. I know who I am and the people around me do too. At the end of the day that’s all that matters.”
He gives her a sad smile. “That sounds easier said than done.”
“Maybe so, but it helps to focus on the big picture. If I would’ve listened to all the talk about how I got my roles because of who Judson is, I would’ve quit long ago.”
He leans forward in his chair, blinking twice as he contemplates whether he heard her correctly. “Judson Ryder? As in the director?”
“Do you know another Judson Ryder?” She raises a brow.
TK chuckles. “No, ma’am. I just wasn’t aware that you two knew each other, that's all.”
“Yes, we know each other.” The corner of her mouth twitches as she gets a wistful look in her eye. “He’s my husband, in everything but the literal sense.”
The way she labels their relationship is both beautiful with the soft tone it’s delivered in, one that can only signify genuine love, and unbelievably heartbreaking at the same time.
“I can’t imagine how hard that must be,” he forces himself to say even though he’s closer to it than she realizes. The context may be different, but TK knows if he would ever be so lucky to find someone like that, his fate would be the same.
She nods before continuing on. “I’ve never even been in a film of his anyway, like that’s the part of our relationship they have a problem with,” she mumbles the last part before taking a breath. “So yes, rumors run amok.”
TK: Would Move back to New York, there's too many memories in Austin. Every street. Every Road. Reminds him of his once beloved Novio.
Carlos: Would spend half his time in New York, trying to keep an eye on TK. The other half, in Austin being a cop.
Mateo: Would be crying for days, and weeks. He would eventually quit the station, spending most time at Nancy's. Visiting Y/N'a grave once a week, and tell him everything that's happened since the last time he sat with Y/N. Hours at a time.
Owen: Would try his hardest to try and keep TK in Austin, and Mateo at the job, when he failed to do both for both his 'son's', he wouldn't quit his job, he would become more reckless at work.
Judd: Would take a week off to process everything and then come back and try to help Owen at the Station. Try to show him that there is a way past the grief.
Marjan: Would become quieter and more reserved. Eventually moving back to LA. Joining the 118.
Paul: Would try to stay at the station for a couple months. Until TK, Mateo and Marjan have all left, and then he wouldn't find the station a happy place, he would find it to be just filled with the memories of what felt like a past life, so he would switch stations.
Nancy: Would stay at the Station. Working a lot of double shifts, so that she can push past her feelings and also afford to keep her and Mateo alive.
Vega: Would take a personal hit with Y/N's death, and everyone moving away. But, she wouldn't. She would bury herself in work, in her faith, the bible, church. And, become a super overprotective mum of her twin girls.
Grace: She would bury herself more in her religion also, spending a lot of time at church, praying.
