What has served as inspiration for your art style? I’m still trying to improve mine
So much.
Mid-1900s animated American films, from Disney to Don Bluth to UPA. Late-90s to early-2000s anime, especially OVAs (favorite studios were Madhouse and Gainax). Pre-digital comics: The Adventures of Tintin, Pogo Possum, Calvin & Hobbes, Peanuts, Little Nemo in Slumberland. Graphic novels: Hellboy, Blacksad, Jamie Hewlett's work. For individual artists online: my partner Tulliok, Snoozincopter, Alariko, Louie Zong, DeusExMakena, SachinTeng, SsSantine, brawlersworld, Tanjeronie, Carly Henson. There are more but those are the ones who come to mind.
This is an extremely random and eclectic list, but they've all influence the whole body of my work and style, from character design to film composition to storytelling to coloring to line weight. They all reflect something in art that I love: I love flat colors, I love heavy line weight, I love harsh shadows, I love drawing people, I love sci-fi and soft fantasy, I love romance and drama, I love the grittiness of pre-digital art-making, I love the cleanliness and clarity of digital art-making. Check out these works and artists, but they may not embody who you are. The best advice I can give is find and eat and savor as much art as you can and let it change you. Ask yourself why something speaks to you; it can be as small as the way someone draws an ear. Ask yourself why that artist decided to draw it that way. Then make it your own.
Your inspirations should be as multi-faceted as you. Have fun!
In the Sesame Street song "Share it Maybe," a parody of Carly Rae Jepsen's song "Call Me Maybe," the music video for Jepsen's song can be seen in the background on an office computer.

For the third volume of Spider-Verse comics that came out in 2019, the concept of the "Spidersona" that was popularized by the release of the animated film Into the Spider-Verse was acknowledged by way of integrating three different Spidersonas each issue into the comic multiverse through short character profiles at the end of each issue. The former half of these 18 characters would even show up in the final issue of the run in person, with Sun-Spider getting some particularly special treatment afterwards.
Spidersona hero names are bolded and real names (if avaliable) are in parentheses.
Issue 1
Spider-Requiem (Polymnia Swan) of Earth-98117: Created by Cotton Valent from Thailand, Ms. Swan, named after the Greek Muse of Dance, hides her scarred face with her mask and uses her webs to control handmade puppets in combat.
Spinster of Earth-93191: Made by Antonio Demico of France with a design inspired by both the French Revolution and the original Madame Web, the Spinster can generate webs from her prehensile hair which she can then use to spy on conversation like a
V of Earth-43890: As written by V-0-3 from Poland, V is a robotic Spider who lives in Kyoto in the year 2177 who fights crime both physically and digitally, being able to connect herself to the internet to stop cybercrimes.
Issue 2
Spidair of Earth-91202: As written by Dice Shimi of France, Spidair was bitten by a spider from a space laborabtory and possesses thick skin that protects him from extreme temperature immunity as well as the ability to glow brightly to blind enemies.
Sea-Spider of Earth-19192: Being able to breathe underwater and wielding a hook and grappling pistols, the sona provided by the UK's James Gifford is a Spanish nobleman who sails the seas aboard his ship the Aracne.
Spider-Sting of Earth-38418: As explained by Tori Apiradee, Spider-Sting's powers are more acidic in nature, with webs that can erode concrete and bricks.
Issue 3
Sun-Spider (Charlotte "Charlie" Webber) of Earth-20023: Considered the breakout hit of these sonas, Dayna Broder's Sun-Spider has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which makes her hyper-flexible at the cost of needing to use crutches and a wheelchair for stability. She has received her own dedicated story in Edge of the Spider-Verse as well as a vocal cameo in Across the Spider-Verse.
Garden-Spider (Petunia Parker) of Earth-71925: After being shrunken down in size, Petunia tends to her garden, swinging from the flowers like they were skyscrapers to fight against villainous insects like the Aphid. Her creator is Alyssa Ragni of the US.
White Widow (Venice Doadi) of Earth-23233: Carly Henson describes this sona as coming from a future timeline, possessing the ability to secrete toxins from her bare skin, which she coats both her webs and clawed fingers with.

BABE!
I am so excited about this ask!
Okay, I was like, what's the best way to answer this, so I went to Receiptify first, but you guessed it, my top five all time songs were two Carly, two Louis, and one Harry. Which is like. Duh.
So then I checked my Spotify "On Repeat" playlist and it was...two Carly, one Louis, and two BritRock bands. So.....
I decided to go to my LIKED SONGS, hit shuffle and go with it!
Diamond Heart - Lady Gaga (Joanne is the best Gaga album, argue with the wall)
Guest Room - Future Teens (a fantastic angsty song about being in your early 20s, prime fic playlist material for most of us, btw)
Pickup Truck - Kings of Leon (okay, YES. KoL is my go to mood buster music, so yeah. I listen to them all the time.)
I Hope I Didn't Just Give Away The Ending - New Radicals (New Radicals is one of my favorite one album wonders. The whole damn thing is good and sometimes I just go listen to it while I drive around.)
You Don't Know How Lucky You Are - Keaton Henson (If y'all are writing a pining ANYBODY while the other half of that is in a relationship, I am BEGGING ON MY KNEES for you to go listen to this and to put it on your playlist. PERFECTION.)
This has been a month of recovery and readjustment. I've been playing a lot of Sims 2 and Hogwarts Legacy. (I rode on a hippogriff for the first time, and it was glorious!) Continuing to enjoy Once Upon a Broken Heart when I'm in the mindspace for reading. Here are some other favorites!
Raging Loop: I started watching this visual novel and got hooked pretty quickly. If you've been keeping track of my favorites for a while, this is yet another time loop/parallel timelines/branching paths horror-ish game. 😆 What can I say? I love them. (Though they sometimes freak me out.) This one was a wild ride. And while I didn't love everything about how the story ultimately played out, I really enjoyed how it messed with my mind!
Mulholland Dr.: Speaking of stories that mess with your mind, wow. I debated whether this should make the monthly favorites because... part of me is unsure if I actually liked it? There were parts that I didn't care for or understand the point of, initially. But. I really like stories that have twisty, deeper meanings under the surface. And I could sense that it was there. So, I employed one of my new favorite ways to continue engaging with stories: explainer/theory videos. This movie has a lot of levels. And diving deeper into analysis of those levels was very satisfying.
Jim Henson: Defunctland did a documentary series on Jim Henson, and while I'm not the most versed in his work, I decided to watch through it. And I'm really glad I did. The final episode had me sobbing. And much like Defunctland's Disney Channel video, got me thinking about the creative work that we leave behind.
Music Favs: Emotion (Carly Rae Jepson), Buzzcut Season (Lorde), Fading (Shallou), One Night (Christina Perri), Burning Bridges (OneRepublic), Dream (Imagine Dragons), Borderline (Florrie), Supernatural Sadness (Lily & Madeleine).
