Royal Tiaras Highlights: Princess Charlotte of Monaco Pearl Drop Tiara
This tiara was made by Cartier for Princess Charlotte of Monaco, most likely in 1949 when her son, Prince Rainier, became Monaco’s ruler. The only other Grimaldi woman to wear the tiara other than Charlotte is Princess Caroline, Charlotte’s granddaughter. It has been speculated that Caroline inherited the tiara, but it’s most likely that the piece is owned by the Grimaldis and Caroline borrows it from them.

11 Meaningful Pieces In Catherine’s Jewellery Collection That Belonged To Queen Elizabeth II
By Emily Chan
6 December 2023
Tumblr media
First worn by the Princess of Wales in June at the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan and Princess Rajwa Al Saif in Amman, Jordan, the Greville chandelier earrings were seen on Queen Elizabeth II throughout her reign.
The dazzling diamond earrings made by Cartier were a wedding gift to Her late Majesty from her parents – the Queen Mother had inherited them from Dame Margaret Helen Greville, a British socialite, in 1918.
Catherine was most recently seen wearing the jewels at a Diplomatic Corps reception at Buckingham Palace.
Tumblr media
On Remembrance Sunday this year, Catherine debuted a pair of diamond and pearl leaf earrings that were previously seen on the Queen during a visit to Nigeria back in 2003.
Some experts believe that the earrings may have been detachable pieces from the brooch featuring the same design.
Tumblr media
Commissioned by King George VI, Queen Elizabeth II’s Festoon necklace features 105 loose diamonds that her father inherited when he ascended the throne.
Featuring three strands, the monarch wore the piece on numerous occasions throughout her life, from attending state banquets to posing for official portraits.
The Princess of Wales paid tribute to Her late Majesty by wearing the piece for the official Coronation photograph when King Charles III officially assumed the throne on 6 May.
Tumblr media
The Princess of Wales wore Queen Elizabeth II’s three-strand pearl necklace – an item Her Majesty was famous for – during a Buckingham Palace lunch for the governors-general of the Commonwealth nations prior to the monarch’s funeral in September 2022.
Tumblr media
The then Princess Elizabeth received this jaw-dropping diamond necklace by Cartier from the Nizam of Hyderabad as a wedding gift in 1947.
Featuring a rose motif, the royal picked the necklace herself, along with a matching floral tiara.
The Princess of Wales first wore the statement piece at a gala for the National Portrait Gallery in 2014, before rewearing it at a Buckingham Palace reception for the Diplomatic Corps in 2019.
Tumblr media
Queen Elizabeth II was first photographed wearing these diamond and pearl earrings during her Silver Jubilee celebrations – marking 25 years on the throne – in 1977.
Catherine has sported the earrings a number of times in the past, including after Prince Louis’ birth in 2018 and while visiting Commonwealth troops ahead of the Queen’s funeral.
Tumblr media
Queen Elizabeth II commissioned royal jeweller Garrard to create this four-strand pearl and diamond choker, using pearls sourced from Japan in the early 1980s.
Princess Diana was loaned the piece for a state banquet in honour of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands in 1982, while the current Princess of Wales has worn the necklace on several occasions, including for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s 70th wedding anniversary in 2017 and Her Majesty’s funeral in 2022.
Tumblr media
The Princess of Wales debuted Queen Elizabeth II’s emerald and diamond earrings during an evening reception in Jamaica in 2022, along with a matching bracelet.
Both pieces are from Her late Majesty’s emerald tassel suite, which the monarch first wore at a state dinner held for Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates at London’s Claridge’s Hotel in 1989.
Tumblr media
First worn by Queen Elizabeth II during the 1990s, the Princess of Wales has borrowed Her late Majesty’s diamond and pearl leaf brooch a number of times over the years, including on a visit commemorating the Battle of Passchendaele in Belgium in 2017.
Catherine wore the piece in tribute to the monarch while attending her funeral procession at Westminster Hall in September 2022.
Tumblr media
The sapphire and diamond earrings
The Princess of Wales borrowed Queen Elizabeth’s sapphire and diamond earrings for a visit to Edinburgh in 2021.
The sapphire earrings are part of a suite of sapphire and diamond jewellery by Asprey, which Her late Majesty added to her collection during the late 1970s.
The Bahrain pearl drop earrings
Featuring two pearls gifted to Her late Majesty by the Hakim of Bahrain as a wedding present, these diamond and pearl drop earrings were also worn by Princess Diana in the 1980s.
The Princess of Wales was first spotted wearing the earrings at a Remembrance Day service in 2016, before going on to wear them for Trooping the Colour in 2019 and Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.

Iconic Elegance: GenB_Luxury Jewelry Icons
Tumblr media
The World of Extravagant Luxury Jewelry History and Development of Luxury Jewelry Industry Luxury jewelry has a long rich history that dates back centuries. Some of the earliest luxury jewelry pieces found were crafted by Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans who used rare precious metals like gold and gemstones to signify power, wealth and status. During medieval times, luxury jewelry designs became more ornate with intricate carvings, engravings and filigree work. The Renaissance period saw the rise of luxury jewelry as an art form with detailed designs inspired by architecture, sculptures and paintings of that era. The 19th century is considered the Golden Age of luxury jewelry with royal families and aristocrats commissioning grand pieces from famous jewelers in Europe, especially from houses like Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Bulgari. Elaborate sets with tiaras, necklaces, brooches, bracelets and rings encrusted with diamonds, rubies, emeralds and other precious gems became symbols of opulence. In the 20th century, art deco strongly influenced luxury jewelry design with geometric patterns, bold asymmetry and vivid colors. Post-World War 2, colorful cocktail rings and stacked bracelets encapsulated mid-century modern luxury. Today, the global luxury jewelry market valued at over $20 billion is dominated by historic maisons based in Europe along with an emerging new generation of designer brands globally. While tradition and heritage remain core, luxury jewelry constantly evolves by blending periods of artistic influence with advanced techniques and newer materials. Sustainable ethically sourced responsible luxury is also an increasing trend. Styles and Materials Used in Luxury Jewelry Today While diamonds continue to be the most coveted and widely used luxury jewelry material, colored gemstones, pearls and precious metals like gold and platinum are also common. When it comes to styles, everything from dainty delicate pieces to bold statement pieces can be found across different luxury jewelry brands. Some of the most popular current styles are: - Solitaire & three stone diamond rings which are timeless classics. Halo and accent diamond styles have also become very popular recently. - Tennis bracelets featuring a continuous row of diamonds on a metal band are a classic. Chunky bracelets featuring mixed materials are also in vogue. - Delicate diamond necklaces, pendants, drops and chokers in 18k yellow gold or platinum are beautiful everyday staples. Thicker chains, link necklaces and statement pieces with colorful gemstones work for evening looks. - Earrings ranging from simple studs to ornate chandeliers and danglers adorned with rubies, sapphires and emeralds are in high demand. Hoops of all sizes in precious metals are quintessential luxury earrings. - Watches studded with diamonds on bezels and bracelets are an evergreen luxury accessory category. Bangles, cuffs and stackable bracelets with emeralds and tanzanite gemstones are also popular. Famous Luxury Jewelry Brands and Their Signature Styles Some of the most renowned luxury jewelry houses globally are renowned for their excellence in craftsmanship, superior design aesthetics and use of highest quality materials. Here are a few of the biggest names and what they are best known for:

What type of jewelry do they usually wear?
While Sonia has access to the majority of the Royal Family's crown jewels as the crown princess (and eventually most, if not all, of it when she becomes Queen), most of the collection is kept for special occasions and appearances only. State dinners, balls, galas, and anything warranting a black tie dress code would bring into question with her stylists which set should be loaned to her. Choosing an inappropriate piece in design, or a tiara she's worn recently, or an item whose origins conflict with the country and/or guest she's visiting or greeting are all terrible faux pas!
But her day-to-day wear is a lot more practical. In her canon design for her In Utero uniform, she wears a pair of stud earrings (usually white gold or yellow gold balls, or round pearls), a faceted sapphire brooch set in 24k yellow gold filigree, and a yellow gold tennis bracelet. I'd imagine she would choose something similar at Hope's Peak, minus the brooch.
Otherwise, most of her jewelry is classic, timeless, and most importantly, real. Plastic gems, cubic zirconia, etc. is all seen as tacky and costume jewelry (and while Sonia is all for it, her family would never give her moissanite), and her look is styled to be polished and discreet at her young age. Sonia's daily/routine jewelry is almost all gifted (also appropriate in the family: it's seen as irresponsible, if not tacky, for a young woman to buy her own fine jewelry before she's well out of school age), and ranges from a variety of pendants (solid gold, pearl, gemstones, etc.) on delicate chains (one necklace at a time is worn for official events but she may layer them in her casual outfits if they're on different length chains), at least one string of pearls, studs, small and thin hoops, and drop earrings in a variety of gemstones in white and yellow gold settings, a classic watch once she hits her university years (likely Cartier, in the Tank style or something similarly understated but elegant. In the Royal Family, children do not need watches: they are accompanied by tutors, nannies, and/or parents everywhere), discreet bangle, cuff, and tennis bracelets (and never worn in a stack. A Cartier Love bracelet in plain gold or four diamonds only is the only bracelet that should be on a wrist if worn. Same goes for the classic Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra or any other sort of classic piece that has been worn to the death by celebrities everywhere in giant bracelet stacks).
Rings are allowed for the right hand only after she turns eighteen until she is officially engaged (as it makes too much speculation in the press otherwise). She is also only allowed one piercing per ear, in each earlobe. Sonia isn't permitted to have multiple piercings, body piercings, or tattoos, for that matter. You will never see her wear any jewelry with a giant luxury brand's label on it, or anything that overwhelms her. Much of what she wears is inherited, if it isn't outright gifted to her and she's permitted to keep it. Her gifts aren't always from the big luxury jewelry brands either: independent brands that fit the aesthetic her family needs her to fit into are also considered and supported.
That said...
...she went ham once she got to Japan and bought all the plastic, gaudy jewelry she could carry from the DR equivalent of Shibuya 109. She just never wears it in front of her family because they'd demand she take it off. Giant fake pearls? Bows of all sorts? Creepy kawaii pastel horror and Halloween motifs? Yeah. She loves it all!
Emeralds and diamonds are what's found the most in the Royal Family's collection and Sonia likes them, but she also enjoys pearls and sapphires quite a bit as well. She has a few sterling silver pieces too, but mostly, it's gold of some sort. Think classic and timeless: something Sonia could, and likely will, pass down to her own children.
A note: asking me fashion and style headcanons will ensure you're written the length of a novel in return. Besides geeky fandoms and book fandoms...this is my fandom.
What’s a song you associate with your muse?
I keep a whole playlist on Spotify for Sonia! Whether it's ambient music to write to, or music that fits a specific ship, or music I could imagine playing in the background of a scene/aesthetic but doesn't necessarily fit her. But I also have songs that I do associate with her on it, so I'll drop one of them here, even if it's one of the more obvious choices from the list:
youtube
Girls, so pretty and poised And soft to the touch But God made me rough Girls, so heavy the crown They carry it tall But it's weighing me down
I should grab these lyrics for my next pr.omo post...
