Caryll Runes descriptions & what they do
I think someone already mention it but all the Caryll runes weren't translated or discovered by Runesmith Caryll themselves.
Based on the different descriptions, I might have figure out winch ones exactly.
I regroup and resume them in 2 categories. In the middle of doing it, I decided to add what each runes do as well without actually copy-paste every descriptions (there's 20 in total).
To know where to find them in the game, I recommend this really great and complementary post ! With every types of runes and where to find them ! With the one I just made I think it perfectly resume everything that need to be known about the Caryll runes.
Let's begin with the Rune Workshop Tool description to know more about Caryll and the runes.
Tumblr media
Runes describe as being « a secret symbol left by Caryll » :
Tumblr media
12/20 Runes. We can conclude that this ones where translated by Caryll themselves. if we don't count the covenant runes they're probably the most useful and used runes. Funny how the radiance & Corruption runes are both here too...
Other runes, just called « Caryll Runes » :
(Probably not not made by Caryll ? But may have been translated by them?  Or Caryll had nothing to do with them but they’re still runes translating inhuman sounds so they’re just called like this)
Tumblr media
8/20 Runes.
Bonus, Runes on the Astral Clocktower :
Tumblr media
By Sophie on Jerks sans frontieres that you may know from the Sinclair lore channel (Bloodborne & others video games podcasts).
There's 14 runes here but 2 of them don't exist in game or don't fully match with something we know (probably cut content but it's really intriguing).

It is strange how I both really do NOT wish for Bloodborne anime to exist because it will probably ruin a lot of mystery and engagement based on fans struggling to interpret, with 'canon' unseen characters designs and worse - DIRECT ANSWERS *horrified woman's scream sound effect*
But also I really WISH for Bloodborne anime to exist because I want to see the favs to emote and do cool stuff in 2D. The internal struggle
#fandomry rambles#like lrb (like lrt but on tumblr) shows tho the best way is to make your own animations#or collab#what i am saying is that bloodborne anime is cool as a concept but it should never be a canonical product#maybe fandom's collaboration that is cool to watch but doesn't bind anyone to accept its headcanons and designs and theories#it is also why i respect titan comics writer so much - they outright said their ideas are not binding canon for anyone#even IF comics are licensed#i mean the history knows anime adaptations of games but like... even if they are rarely perfect ones?#ignoring some stuff not stated/shown in games that is in animes becomes sooooo awkward to ignore (speak from experience)#like imagine bb anime that gives canon designs for adeline or rom or caryll and like#from this point on there is an APPARENT rift between fans who use anime canon and who design their own stuff#i just love it better when everyone is in equal conditions as a fan if that makes sense? sorry it is hard to apply to this fandom fdhds#i just love Enough freedom of interpretation intact and without encouraging towards certain side#for example imagine if titan comics touched upon unseen characters rather than focus on seen + new original ones?#or if that cool fanmade manga centred around lady maria was canon?#bloodborne just leaves exactly as much room for imagination and thinking as NEEDED. it is perfect balance#you don't want more and you don't want less. just enough balance between canon and what you gotta come up with yourself

Vicious Cycle of humanity reflected on Astral Clocktower Dial
This is more philosophical than solid theory, but @heraldofcrow and @fantomette22 have been talking about Runes in this ( x ) post and I could not help but to add my observations!
Tumblr media
(Image from here ( x ), apparently)
Interestingly, Runes placement on the dial DOES suggest some sort of a vicious cycle! I personally see Communion as the start of the "day" - just like it is on actual watch, and it is followed by Radiance; so, good, 'saint' even, intentions, turning into Crusader purist vice (that is what Executioners are)! Three curved lines remind me of 'Hunt the Great Ones' + 'Three Eye Cords' notes, so a sort of breaking point of human race where religion went them to ruin and they seek to drag it down... Next follow Hunter, then Beast, then Beast's Embrace - a very self-explanatory progression, then 'all things return to Sea'.
But also, not only they return to Sea, but also come from it, right? Lake and Sea runes describe same function in the lore - to conceal the secrets and Great Ones with great volume of water, but whereas the sea is infinite and chaotic, a lake is more or less secluded and small space, possible to observe, so this is where people mark some goalposts and ideas of knowledge pursuit, rather than being all mystical and submissive to what is beyond their normal understanding!
This next Rune looks similar to Impurity but not is it, I talked about my headcanons for it in that post but all in all I think this is intentional, and carries similar sentiment - discovering 'filth' within man that holds them back! Oedon Writhe is a Rune that lets you recover bullets from visceral attacks, and Formless Oedon, a Rune that follows, lets you simply keep more bullets at once! Considering how true nature of Oedon is said to be bloodspill, and nature of visceral attacks, it seems to hint at unethical experiments in the name of scientifical advance!
After this, Guidance, Eye and Moon likewise feel very self-explanatory - have a hunch where to go, learn to discover more, and then Moon seems to be some sort of hubris and chaos in the context - all norms and morality are lost, some sort of objective reality erases humanity as concept by its very gravity, and humans return to the Communion in search of something to hold them back and mark the limitations, thus returning civilisation, you feel?
In this context, parallels of Runes makes sense too! Lake and Communion are parallel - both reflect marking the borders and rules and norms of what do humans want to accomplish. Radiance is parallel with Oedon Runes - both (well, three) reflect becoming cruel for 'noble cause', meanwhile Guidance and Hunter/Beast Runes reflect sort of no-return point where humans are misled by what they thought they understood but they didn't, and then Moon and Sea are sort of complete chaos past which humans must start over.
Besides, that makes two mini cycles - the day half is about religion, and the evening half is about science! Yet both lead to ruin of humans... Sounds right about trademark Soulsborne depression for me [shrugs]

NEW BREAKING BLOODBORNE THEORY:
-the japanese word used to describe the blue caryll runes (used for online play) are "oaths". -this word is also translated as "contract", which the hunter "signs" at the start of the game. QED: the hunter is pledging an oath to a great one when getting the blood transfusion and taking on the hunter's mark. -fauxsefka has a line: "Upon my Hippocratic oath," -as a result of this information it can be wrongly, but technically possible, for hippocrates to be the name of a great one. wow. finally a satisfying canon explanation for aahjgh hughabl ashagdi goodbye

Reunion Speculation
After analyzing the Book of Carol promo for the 100th time, I have a theory about how the Caryl reunion might go down in season 2.
To start off we know Carol is trapped inside a car swarmed by walkers until something splatters brain matter over the front windshield. Sadly her earlier seen travelling companion looks to be deader than dead in the rearview mirror, so we know it's not him coming to her aid. There is then a hand that touches the back of the car ... a fingerless glove wearing hand attached to a dark trench coat adorned arm ( I wonder WHO that could be? LOL)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In case my sarcasm is weak, I believe it's Daryl.
I think Carol and her dead compadre could be trapped in a car at Maison Mere. We saw in ep5 when all the people arrived to "celebrate", a large portion arrived in cars and I think it's safe to assume that when the bullets started flying and walkers running around free commenced, everyone didn't think to wait to retrieve their cars from the valet. Also Daryl, Fallou and co know where Maison Mere is -having just been there - and Genet may look to move operations to a more secure area as to not have them ruin dollar store Bill Nye's experiments.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
**Season 2 filming spoiler** We've also seen a bunch of military vehicles with the Pouvoir logo driving up to and around the Louvre. Seems to be more secure to me.
Daryl & group could be heading back there as a pre-empt effort so the people at The Nest will be safe once Daryl leaves to go home or because there is important info/supplies left to grab. Either way, we know Daryl isn't the type to leave someone in need to die - and walkers clamoring at a car the way they are in the promo means something is alive in there. (It goes back to the early sesons of TWD, in 3x10 where Daryl chose to save a random family and baby on the bridge from walkers while Merle wanted to mug them for their supplies. Not to mention the most recent saving Laurent from being a beach party snack instead of getting on the boat to go home). He's the type of person to help "whoever" is in there, but he's about to get the shock of his life.

Gaslighting in the fandom
I have some very hot takes here that may piss off a lot of you, but I can't not say anything anymore.
I have been quiet for a long time about a certain member of the Caryl fandom. This person blocked me a long time ago when I dared to disagree with her and the collective because I felt like we did not know the whole story of what went down when TWD ended and the spinoff changed. But I have kept tabs on her misguided rantings though. I have long had a theory about this particular member of fandom. I believe this person had good intentions to begin with, but now it almost appears as an ego trip to prove that her theories were correct when almost all her theories have blown up in her face. (AI Melissa anyone?). I also question whether someone who spends as much time on Tumblr writing bad theories and answering an incredible amount of asks has true ties to the entertainment industry. I know there are others who feel the same way and if you choose to block me or ignore me I understand. I will rejoice when Caryl goes canon by myself if need be.
"You are absolutely right that, so far, what AMC is showing us instead is that they allow insecure men to punish talented women and gaslight fans who threaten their vision. "
A direct quote from her most recent post. I do agree that AMC marketing has gaslit fans at times and yes there have been instances when women have not gotten a fair shake. But I heartily disagree that they "punish" talented women. If you think that then you really have not been paying attention to the marketing for The Ones Who Live. Danai has been front and center in interviews and seems to have had full creative control over directions of the story for Rick and Michonne. Same with Lauren C when Dead City promo was going on. I truly hope we hear from Melissa soon, but I also know that Melissa has never been a fan of having to do press, most likely because she doesn't like all the attention. I hope that with the upcoming months we see more of her interacting in the public, but I would not be surprised if we did not.
Another quote: "That's not a show I can support. I admire Carol and Melissa because they rise above everyone who puts them down. I love Caryl because they represent the light at the end of the tunnel. Gimple, Nicotero, and Zabel are 100% NOT on our side and never will be, but I need AMC and Norman to show me that they are."
Honestly...I can't disagree about Gimple. I have been totally glad he has been far away from Daryl Dixon being distracted by his being showrunner on TOWL. But Nicotero and Melissa McBride are incredibly close and always have been. The rumors were rampant about tension on the set the last day of filming TWD and then a few months later, we got these pics from BTS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Along with Norman laying his head in Melissa's lap. All seemed very much at ease.
I know Zabel has not always chosen his words carefully but it also seems that he is very excited to be working with Melissa as well as Norman. As far as being shipbaity with other female characters....well he talks in typical showrunner speak about that. Let us not forget the whole 10C debacle with Leah being introduced in a 20 minute flashback scene. And that was EVERY BIT on Kang, so spare me the righteous indignation that a female showrunner knows best, because obviously Kang did not. Norman and Melissa both hated that storyline...it was not fun as Kang always likes to say it was. I am glad she is gone from the spinoff.
Well, I think I have said enough now to get the rest of the fandom pissed off at me, so I guess I will sign off for now. Believe what you want, but don't fall victim to someone who is trying to reclaim a self-perceived power position by claiming an authority she clearly does not have. Enjoy the show or don't. But I will be around to spread positivity as we get new promo and interviews with hopefully both Melissa AND Norman.

“What if Carol was a stowaway on the same ship as Daryl…”
Tumblr media
Several months back, I played around with the same theory. I think it would’ve helped us suspend disbelief if both Daryl and Carol arrived in France the same way at the same time. No, Melissa still wouldn’t have been a lead in S1, but Carol could’ve still been a large presence in the story if only in spirit. Hints of her whereabouts could’ve been sprinkled in here and there. Daryl could’ve been angsting over her while unknowingly walking the same path she had just hours prior. S2 could’ve filled in the gaps through Carol’s POV, and of course culminate to Caryl’s big reunion which would establish canon. That would’ve been worth watching.
Daryl is an amazing character. Groundbreaking in fact. But he is not himself when the character who’s largely responsible for his growth is emotionally absent. There is no Daryl without Carol or vice versa, and that isn’t a slight on anyone. It’s a testament to how special the chemistry is between Caryl/McReedus. If I was part of a duo that powerful, I’d be proud of it. It’s a shame when people don't realize what they have.

What was Daryl doing before he was taken?
Oh look, it feels like 2015 again and I’m combining evidence into one post for a theory. Bring it back for the remix. Okay so let’s go back to the script leak to start this theorising...
Tumblr media
So, this tells us many many things about the set up. It tells us that Carol is looking for Daryl, and has thus discovered he is missing. Her finding his bike cannot just be a random “Carol’s out for a walk and finds Daryl’s bike”. It is MOST likely they have an agreed place where they meet or leave stuff for each other. At the end of season 1 filming, there was a location that was made to look American. It appeared to feature a garage and a bathing station.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That seems a reasonable place for Carl and Daryl to meet up - especially the bathing stations SCREAMS Carol. So lets assume that’s what this is. Now, again, having Carol just rock up and Daryl’s not there, or his bike is and hes not, with no background to it doesn’t really work (but this is TWD so it might happen but... assuming not). They need to establish that they have this meeting place, or exchange post or whatever it is. To do that they can either show Caryl there together in a flashback, or them separately there collecting and leaving letters and goods for one another.  Obviously the former is preferable, but whatever. We know Norman filmed at this location in his pre-France clothes, and with his bike:
Tumblr media
So at the very least we will see him there and not just proof he’s been there before. And presumably what happens is Carol shows up expecting to find him, and only find his stuff and proof he’s been there. But with this info in mind, let us look at the promo for the season and a theme that is emerging:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On it’s own, Daryl deserving a happy ending, is a bit “so what”. Particularly as it appears he went looking for it someplace not at home, and without the looming presence of Carol, it might be a very sucky thing for us Carylers. BUT it isn’t, and this is where it gets interesting...
Tumblr media
I’m sorry, what did you just say??? “He was SO CLOSE to getting what he wanted” BEFORE he was taken. Well that’s interesting.
Obviously when Daryl left, they were very vague about why and what he was looking for. Maybe it was Rick, and maybe he was close to finding Rick - but the “being where he wanted to be”, that doesn’t sound like Rick related. It does - of course - make me think back to Leah (*spit spit*) and “where I belong” . And it must be remembered that Daryl was clear in Find Me he KNEW where he belonged, and it was with his family. So we have a discord here - he knew he belonged with his people but he went out looking for something, and at some point while out looking he gets CLOSE to finding what he wants.
There’s only IMO one way to square that circle, and it comes clear when we go back to the idea of Daryl deserving his “happy ending” and spending the spin-off DESPERATELY trying to get back home. From that we can only assume home is where he wanted to be, getting what he wanted.
Thus, he had changed his mind. He was coming home. He had realised what he wanted was there, and always was. He was going home to CAROL. SHE is what he wanted.
Tumblr media
And it is possible that Carol knows that, and THAT is why she is on his tracks so fast. Because maybe at that meeting place I mentioned at the start, Daryl had told her - either in person, or in a letter, that he was coming home and she was what he wanted and where he wanted to be was with her, wherever she was. He just had to go do this thing first.
So, when he didn’t turn up, she knew it wasn’t just that he’d met someone, decided to settle someplace else. She KNEW he was coming home and him NOT meant something bad had gone down, and when she finds his bike - well bad luck anyone who has been involved in Daryl’s absence cos they are about to be dead.

Associations post (Part 2)
(Part 1)
Yes, I went ahead with this one after all. While I was sincerely trying to find "my" Logarius among the sitters on old masterpieces of art, I came across other associations with Bloodborne characters. And most of them were Laurences, because I'm boring and call every cute young man with brown hair a young Laurence LOL
Sorry I will repeat some characters from post to post :( Hope it still will be interesting
BTW
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Salvator Rosa, "Autoportrait" for Martyr Logarius before he turned into a bearded pthumerian skeleton.
There is a theory that boy on a painting in a Cainhurst is a King of Cainhurst/or Logarius himself. Good ground for headcanons! As for me, this boy is Rogeriusz's brother, because.... He is a brother of a King! :D Just ALL of his portraits were destroyed because of betrayal. But Rogeriusz and King were like twins! I still struggle with Logarius' backstory, because can't choose which trope for him I like more. I need to FeEl him properly
As for autoportrait, I know that artist has other autoportraits. This one is more idealistic suitable for Logarius. Tho my Rogeriusz is much more brutal and has something wild because he is a fucking ideological maniac and a madman. Just mix knight Mordred and Henry VIII and spirit of Russian revilution = sir Rogeriusz in my interpretation. Ludwig, you have AWFUL taste in men
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jean-François Garneray - "Portrait of Ambroise Louis Garneray" for little Laurence. Look at him, just LITERALLY THE WAY I IMAGINE HIM in childhood!!!!!! Kids awwwww Q_Q I still want to draw a few doodles with baby-characters... So sweet and funny in my head......
Look at that boy! ToT He is so happy *_*
Tumblr media
Sandro Botticelli, autoportrait, part of "Adoration of the Magi" for Caryll!
I started drawing as a little child trying to copy and trace faces on his paintings! ;_; Also, his robes here have typical-greek patterns on them, I think those might have been the inspiration for all the patterns on the buildings in Yharnam >:3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"The Red Boy" by Thomas Lawrence for little Micolash!
Thoughtful, too clever for his young age boy for me fits perfectly for Micolash. I don't think he was born looking delusional lol, just his researches, mania for Kos and ascending changed him, though inside he was always like that (depends on interpretation!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Guidobaldo da Montefeltro" by Raphael for young Damian!!! In the right is Damian's model just with set "young" instead of "old" and eyebrows. They look like brothers !!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Part of painting by Jan Anthonisz van Ravesteyn "Pieter van Veen, his son Cornelis and his secretary Hendrick Borsman" for Tomb Prospector Olek!!!
Unexpected, hard to explain, but this is Olek :P His data supposes his hair to be brown but.... But.... Mine Olek is blonde.... D: The only compromise is that his hair is brown but on the light it looks like blonde! Profit!
My version of Olek is a child of streets, who eagerly wanted to learn how to read and write, and asked owner of a bookshop to teach him in exchange of protecting his little shop! Olek is a fan of pthumerian history and had a dream to once meet queen Annalise in-person before Cainhurst massacre happened. Also he has opened confrontation with Logarius who found Olek kinda funny. This all goes from the fact that Olek can be found in pthumerian chalices mostly (I don't remember if he is summonable in Loran chalices). I believe that he lost his sanity long ago and continues to travel through catacombs to find Queen Yharnam (he is summonable NPC for her fight)

Coldblood Flower Theory
Tumblr media
So, I feel like FromSoftware has a habit of taking biological phenomena in nature and either personifying it or treating it like a magical element. For the flowers in Bloodborne, there seems to also be this trend.
Coldblood flowers themselves are inspired by a real world bloom if we go by the Japanese text.
Here are the descriptions—
“The pale vegetation is said to bud within deadblood in abandoned places. However, when its large petals have opened, it is a pure red higan flower.“
Higan flower is likely a reference to my very own beloved Lycoris Radiata, or the Red Spider Lily. In Japanese, they are called higanbana, literally meaning “flower of higan.” Higan is a Buddhist holiday for the autumnal equinox.
Tumblr media
Spider Lilies can also be called corpse flowers or equinox flowers. They are very popular in East Asia, particularly Japan, and are often cultivated there by locals. These flowers bear their deathly names because they bloom primarily in autumn, usually in response to heavy rainfall.
They have also been planted on the graves of ancestors by Buddhists in order to pay respect to the deceased and to celebrate the advent of autumn, hence the further association with death. To add to the identity of these flowers, the link they have with cemeteries and the autumnal equinox inspired writings in the Lotus Sutra (famous Buddhist sutra) that described the flowers as being ominous plants that grow in Hell, eventually guiding the dead to their next reincarnation.
So, what do these death flowers have to do with deadblood flowers? Well, I think it’s worth noting that visible distinction we can see between the Japanese and English when referring to the Coldblood medium. It is called “dead blood” in Japanese, further clarifying that it’s meant to be corpse blood.
It makes sense that we can extract the dying wills of the fallen from this type of blood, and it also feels like Bloodborne’s equivalent of collecting souls from the dead like we did in Dark Souls. It appears to be a theme in Soulsborne that the soul is in the blood, and so when we extract the souls/blood from those who have passed on, we absorb part of their essence.
So, now we have these flowers that bloom from dead blood in abandoned places. Seems reasonable enough. I think that’s why they are so prominent in the Chalice Dungeons, places that have been long-lost. They are also dropped by Loran Clerics, which would make even more sense, because Loran is notably a lost civilization.
But that’s where my theory comes in, because I suspect it may also have to do with the cosmos and the Great Ones.
Tumblr media
In Bloodborne the connection between Lumenflowers and the cosmos seems to be heavily implied. Lumenflowers or Starflowers, as they’re called in the Japanese, seem to provide aid in cosmic ascension. This idea comes from the Milkweed/Seedbed Rune.
The Japanese description follows:
The Caryll rune of "Seedbed." Become a Starflower stem that houses phantasms. A Caryll rune borne by the laboratory patient Adeline. It is a phonetic representation of damp sounds, whispered by inhuman voices.
It divinely reveals the way to attend the stars. Those bound to it become a starflower stem that aims toward the sky. As a Seedbed, phantasms become able to dwell inside you. Phantasms guide, perhaps they will bring even more discoveries.
When you become a seedbed or a Starflower stem, you become a host for phantasms that guide towards further ascension. The flowers literally connect you to the stars.
So, now my theory about Starflowers and Deadblood flowers is based around the concept of redshift and blueshift, mostly figuratively, but perhaps also literally?
To sum up what I mean, I think the blossoming of either of these flowers indicate how close or far away the cosmos/cosmic beings are to the earth and its inhabitants. When they draw nearer, the starflowers bloom (perhaps even with an intentional blueish hue like we see in the art above), and when the cosmos abandons a place, the dead flowers bloom with their red-stained petals. This is why i call it the redshift/blueshift theory, because here is the definition of the phenomena.
Redshift and blueshift describe the change in the frequency of a light wave depending on whether an object is moving towards or away from us. When an object is moving away from us, the light from the object is known as redshift, and when an object is moving towards us, the light from the object is known as blueshift.
It’s how astronomers determine things like if a star or planet is moving away or towards us. Redshift is a big part of the reason why we believe the Universe is expanding. We can see the red light in the distance.
So, in Bloodborne’s world…where the cosmos and its movement can be associated with the Great Ones, I suspect that the two flowers I’m analyzing might be connected to that. I mean, a Loran Cleric dropping a Deadblood flower in the depths of the Chalice Dungeons may not seem too significant, but it would make so much sense that the corpse flowers were blooming in the ruins of the places long-since punished and left behind by the Great Ones.
I think the inhabitants of both Loran and Pthumeru lost their ties to Greater Beings, hence why they were ruined by the beast scourge and their civilizations were lost. Now the Deadflowers bloom in red, marking the death and loss of divine favor. The cosmos moved away.
Meanwhile, the Starflowers are blooming in the shade of night under the stars, aiding patients like Adeline in ascension. They are everywhere, likely planted by the cosmos-obsessed Choir, who clearly figured out quite a bit about divine communication. Even the Living Failures are fought in a field of Starflowers and in the shade of an Astral Clocktower, with the Failures being able to call the stars to their aid. I think the symbolism is all there.
When the cosmos draws near, the Starflowers bloom. When it draws away, the Deadblood flowers bloom.
Redshift and Blueshift!
That’s the theory, haha. Short and simple, but it got stuck in my head a little while back when I discovered that the Deadblood flowers are called Higan Flowers in the Japanese. I adore the Red Spider Lily as a flower, so I got really excited about the connection. This theory is also so fun for me because…botany and astronomy are just such fun topics for me to explore, so I love it when I can apply them to Bloodborne. Miyazaki has such a habit of incorporating concepts from the two fields into his games anyway, so I’m always looking for the connections.
Thank you!

What if Caryll in fact wasn't popular and respected scholar but more like weirdo-scholar who sits all the time in his cubbyhole and tells everyone that he can talk with aliens? During his times side effects of the old blood weren't known and people, including scholars and of course clergy treated it as miracle drug and cure for everything so he was outsider who not only refused to use the blood (what a weirdo, antivaxxer literlly!!!) but also had weird notebook with some incomprehensible stuff and he was keeping to tell everyone "look, these runes helps me to make contact with aliens, no cap, you should try it too!!!". So he was kind of "mascot" of Byrgenwerth, people were talking about him like about "harmless weirdo" and they were mostly making fun from him I think? And only after he passed away someone discovered that his thoughts and theories weren't so ridiculous as people used to think before.

okay, I have a ~theory~ about all the clear shipbaiting on TWD:DD S1
I think NR/GN/Zabel are trying to make Isabelle a 2.0 version of Leah, with hints of Connie and I don't like it one bit because I don't think it's necessary but it's good for canon caryl.
Hear me out: AK original plans for Leah was for her to be a foe for Carol. Everything that Leah was and wasn't screamed Carol. All those parallels on 'Find me'? AK would have been more subtle if she had pointed a neon arrow at both women's head. She would be the final catalyst to canon caryl because, apparently, Daryl and Carol couldn't just solve their feelings for each other without a another angsty plot no one asked for. Anyways, nothing AK originally planned happened because Gimple interfered, and with Lauren negotiating Maggie's return as the leading female of S11A, Melissa was shoved aside and everything about Leah became even more WTF than it already was because Maggie x Pope x Leah made no sense whatsoever. She died with zero emotional impact. Fast forward to the series finale: Daryl confesses his love. Carol clearly doesn't get the depth of what he's saying. Why would she? They never had the resolution they were supposed too within Leah's arc. Daryl interprets Carol's light 'I love you too' as 'she doesn't love me on the same way I love her'. Oblivious idiots in love 101.
Okay, cut to TWD:DD and Isabelle. Isabelle has similar character traits to Carol, although they are not as obvious as it was with Leah. Isabelle's part of a religious group as Leah was. Both groups are a little bit suspicious. Remember Laurent reading to the priest-turned-walker? He said they were waiting for his second coming or something like that. Both Laurent and Isabelle are incredibly reticent on killing walkers. The kid has an excuse: he's just a kid. What is Isabelle's excuse? Leah was a very manipulative person and tried to guilt-trip Daryl on staying with her. Daryl only decided to 'belong' with Leah after Carol told him that she couldn't visit him anymore because of Henry and Ezekiel. He angrily asked her "you asking my permission?"...to move on from him with her life. Daryl was lost at that moment, grieving Rick, and Carol was married to someone else he saw as better than him and deserving of her. Leah was right there offering him something closer to a home and to love. Why wouldn't he accept her offering? Lucky us, she's already gone by the time he came back. Carol got him out of the woods eventually and he got back to his real family.
Let's go back to Isabelle now. She's trying to do the same thing Leah did. But she's not going to succeed because Daryl's not on the same emotional place he was when he met Leah. Even if he loses hope to come back home at some point, he'll never feel like he truly belongs anywhere else than his truly home - Carol. The teaser trailer for 'The Book of Carol' clearly show us that. He knows where he belongs. BUT, when Carol arrives, she'll see him adjusted, with a younger woman giving him heart eyes and a kid following him everywhere. The woman is supposedly a nun, a woman of faith. Carol was once a religious woman, so she'll probably admire Isabelle. She may think Isabelle's better than her, untouched by all the horrors of the ZA. Isabelle's definitely not a murderer like she is, Carol's low self esteem will whisper to her. Isabelle's better for Daryl than Carol is, the same way Connie was better for him. Daryl's probably in love with her, he just loves Carol as a best friend. And it's her duty as his best friend to point him in the direction of the good woman over there, who can have his babies, while Carol sadly smiles and gives him her blessing. *snort*
There's it, the supposed angsty plot no one asked for that Daryl and Carol need to cross the line to romantic canon because, again, saying 'I love you' and crossing an entire fucking ocean apparently isn't enough, we've got to insert a third part to shake things up. *snort again* That was the intention with Leah but TPTB changed their plans last minute. I don't think Isabelle will become a villain like Leah, unless they kill Laurent off. But if TWD:DD is really about Daryl getting his happy ending, he doesn't need another dead child to grief, does he? Does this make sense to anyone other than me and my caryl brain? No, only me? That's okay.

Bloodborne seems to consistently use this motif - with two people being by the either side and one important person in the middle!
In the order - Old Yharnam (Church of Good Chalice), Hemwick mansion, Research Hall, dungeons (above the door) and Old Yharnam again but the big hall with crucified blood-starved beast there (appears to be ruined).
Guess this is important position for the rituals in lore! And in all but last one there is implied to be a patient/victim/whatever ritual is made on. Possible inspiration behind Communion symbol?

Interestingly, this one’s missing the third, ‘important’ figure. Aesthetic preference, or an intention to divert the attention from the central one for some reasons? Laurence is ‘vicar’, which is a person that replaces the pope/bishop while they are away, which is his status in both localisation and Japanese original name ( x ), so if Willem is considered the one and only pope - perhaps missing the central figure in Communion was to point out that vicar is not the “real” one. However odd gesture since Willem was to never lead again, Laurence must have appreciated him more than we’d think?
This last paragraph is just me speculating tho

I was the anon that asked for Caryll and Rom! Thank you, I didn't expect a lot of doodles! I already have a theory on how Caryll lost their arm, but I'll see about that. Meanwhile, what do you think of the rarest dynamics between the scholars (Laurence/Rom, Micolash/Caryll)? Micolash/Rom, Micolash/Laurence, Laurence/Caryll and Caryll/Rom feel obvious, but I haven't seen the other two explored anywhere. If you were the first to give me some ideas, I'd feel honored.
Tumblr media
You're very welcome I'm really happy to know you like it!
And don't worry for the notation of the relationships, I figured it was in general ^^
Alright in my drawing with Caryll & Rom at the hamlet, Caryll didn't actually loose an arm but just got injured and it will heal. And it will heal better than everyone else trauma xD but I do headcanon Caryll will eventually loose their eye(s) 😅 I'm sorry all of this might sound really bad. I don't know if you have an account but feel free to share you thought in dm if you prefer! I'm curious of what you think :3 (I don't bite too)
Ok now! Concerning Laurence and Rom relationship I do have a few ideas of course! In my main headcanon, Rom is Willem's daughter and Laurence was kinda adopted by him so... yeah I have ideas.
As for Caryll and Micolash I didn't really think about it 😐 for me they just have close common friends (part of the same friends group by default) and had classes together . But hey you give me a few ideas!
Laurence and Rom :
Ok so like I mentioned they both been raised by Willem.
Laurence's parents were ex students and associate with Willem and his wife before the 3 passed away ;-; so in the end he kinda adopted Laurence at like 10-12years. He's like check note 6 years older than Rom I think? They don't have a "typical" siblings relationships too. More like if you would have a step sibling but they do appreciate each other a lot and Laurence knew how to be quite protective towards her too. And Rom really appreciate him as well he's a great model to follow (except when he was in his first few students years at uni XD).
During Rom scholarship he did had to teach her 1 or 2 classes perhaps but stayed really neutral. For the other classes (taught by other profs) he did give her a hand when she had difficulties.
When the healing church became to take forms Rom was basically going back and forth between him (in Yharnam) and Willem (at Byrgenwerth) before the big separation. But even after she did help him a lot at the research hall, the choir, the church expeditions in the chalice dungeons etc. SHe also became the 2nd choir leader after Caryll too so yeah Laurence trusted her.
And he probably feel quite conflicted and perhaps a bit bad when she transformed into a kin much later.
Now to have a bit of angst in their mostly great relationship :
Rom was kinda envious by the fact that Laurence is like the perfect son Willem never had.
On the contrary Laurence is a bit envious that he will never be Willem’s son properly. He can’t treat him as a real « father » and don’t want to be treat like a son either. « You’re nit my dad!! » kind of shouting you know.
Hdjwkwjjd family is complicated
Also I already explain maybe?? In my main headcanon I don't headcanon Rom & Mico as siblings but it is an interpret I really appreciate too! + yes it is true Mico English VA is similar to Willem like I mentioned to some friends a while ago. (I didn't play with it too lol I love the French dub too much XD) oh and Mico still live a few years-months with them so they all know each other since childhood.

Caryll and Micolash
I guess they could bond on runes meaning, great ones, weird dreams, pthumerians & the tombs under Yharnam, augurs, and a few other things + the classes they might have together.
So yeah I think they became friends and even if they didn't agree on everything everytime they are the more "weird" of the group so it can get quite unhinged discovering stuff XD
And Mico admire Caryll for understanding runes and think it could be a key to contact the great ones!

Look at those poor sleep deprived students doing their homeworks x)
