You smelled like the lab as you unlocked the door to the flat, sterile and clean. You liked your job well enough, but some days were more taxing than others, and today was one of those days where you couldn't wait to sink into a warm bath and eat a ton of ice cream. As you opened the door, the smell of something savory and meaty filled your head, and you wrinkled your eyebrows in confusion.

"Billy?" you called. "Are you... Cooking?"

Billy poked his darling head out of the kitchen, smiling at you. It instantly filled you with joy— Billy had been down the past few days, and it made you infinitely happy to see him smiling. He had a beautiful smile, and you couldn't help but smile back. "No," Billy said, his smile turning shy and sheepish. "I ordered takeaway. But it smells good, doesn't it?"

"Smells delicious," you said, setting down your bag and going to your boyfriend, laying your hand on his chest and kissing his cheek. "What did you get?"

"Indian," Billy answered. "A little bit of this, a little that, y'know. Are you ready to eat?"

"I'm starving," you told him. "But I was really wanting to take a bath."

"Oh, yeah," Billy said quickly. "You can go do that, and I'll wait for you."

You nodded, then hesitated before going for the bathroom. "Bill?" you asked softly. "Can I have a hug?"

"A hug?" Billy repeated. "Sure. Did something happen today?"

"No," you said. "I'm just tired. I worked yesterday, and then today, and then I go in early tomorrow, and I'm just... Tired. Could use a cuddle."

Billy nodded, and he took your hand in his and led you to the couch. He settled down first, then tugged you down next to him. His arms circled you and he buried his face in your neck, laying quick, gentle kisses on your soft skin. He hummed softly, content, and he mumbled, "I missed you."

"I missed you too," you said softly.

"I don't see how you can do all that work every day and still function at the end of the day," Billy said. "I try to do mental maths and I'm done for the day."

"I'm just used to it, I guess," you said. "I like what I do, but you're right, I can get pretty over it some days."

"Well, my smart darling," Billy said. His leg slotted between yours as he tugged you closer, and he nestled his facial hair into your neck, scratching you up nicely. "What can I do to help you turn off your brain?"

"Nothing you can do," you told him. "It's all shit I gotta do myself."

"I can run a bath for you," Billy offered. "You can eat dinner while the water goes hot, get a full belly, take a warm bath, and go straight to bed."

"I feel bad, though," you mumbled. "I hardly have time for you anymore."

"Don't," Billy told you, gazing up at you with wide, adoring eyes. "You're doing hard work, and it's okay to be tired when you get home. You're lovely and beautiful, and I'm so glad that I get any of your time. I love you, okay? Don't apologize for that."

"I just feel like I'm neglecting you," you mumbled, pushing back Billy's hair and kissing his forehead.

"I don't feel the same way," Billy said. "I'm happy with the attention you give me. If I felt like I was being neglected, I would tell you, wouldn't I?"

"Yeah," you said softly. "Thank you, baby. I appreciate you."

Billy smiled his dopey, lovesick smile, and he leaned forward and kissed you softly. His lips were soft, and he blinked slowly, fondly, as he pulled away. "I'll go start that bath," he said. "Tuck into dinner, and I'll come get you when it's ready."

"What did I do to deserve you?" you asked, and Billy shrugged.

"You were your wonderful self," Billy said. "You didn't have to do anything, and you made me fall for you."
