Rota Fortunae City
@clarusclan @majestyrising
(This will be updated as lore progresses)
Founded by the First Four: Cletius, Rum, Gradient, and Filigree
Classified as a city state
Rests upon a “plate” made of Earthen magic whose edges marks the boundaries of the City. It expands with the population and allows the city to move without problems
Originally founded within the Abiding Boneyard; Currently located within the Shattered Plain
City Proper symbol: A wagon wheel
Outskirt symbol: A ram skull, a crow skull, and a hummingbird skull together
Broken into 13 districts; shaped like a wagon wheel with one center district, eleven wedge districts, and one surrounding district
Each district has a Councilor to represent them in the government and to manage the district.
The City Proper (represented by the Bazaar) and the Outskirts are seen as the two major factions so they each have a leader and a councilor, individual wedge districts just have Councilors.
Some districts have sub-district which do not have special councilors but are still recognized as different areas than the main district.
Descriptions of the districts under the cut
The Outskirt
A shantytown surrounding the City Proper on all sides. Buildings look thrown together but are surprisingly clean. There are no walls separating the Outskirts from Dragonhome and no walls between the City Proper and the Outskirts. Started the Civil War due to mistreatment from the City Proper.
Leader: Filigree
Councilor: Phillip
People Who Live Here Are Called: People of the Outskirt, POs
Job: Defense of the City, Educating Visitors about Laws and Customs, Home for POs
Important Locations: The Morgue, Sky Ship Port, The Pit
The Bazaar
The direct center district of the City Proper. Buildings are a mix of all of the architecture found in the City Proper. Visitors must stay (as in sleep) here during the duration of their visit. All embassies and state buildings are found here. The Marketplace, the biggest shopping center in the Full City, is located here.
Leader: Gradient
Councilor: Theodore
People Who Live Here Are Called: Tourists
Job: Tourism, Holds the Central Government, Economic Center
Sub-District(s): The Marketplace
Specific Shops Located Here: The Teahouse, Blot and Dot Inc
The Aurora District
The northern most wedge district (think of it like a clock, this one is at 12). Buildings are like old Victorian greenhouses but the glass is magically treated so that it looks like clear glass and lets all light pass through but it does not show the interior of the building. All libraries, schools, and record keeping buildings are found here. Even at night this district is covered in light. Some say that many of the people who live there seem off, but that is just gossip...
Councilor: Lilith
People Who Live Here Are Called: Shimmers, Nightlights, Monsters
Job: Education, Keeping Records of Everything, Gossiping, Coverups
Sub-District(s): None
Specific Shops/Important Locations: The Crystal Mausoleum
The Nano District
The wedge district that would be at 1 or 2 on the clock. Buildings are mainly skyscrapers, but the non-skyscraper buildings are in a post-modern style. Nightclubs, research centers, video game development, and tech startups are found here. Basically nerd homeland during the day, party central at night.
Councilor: Phonoi
People Who Live Here Are Called: N/A (nobody actually lives here, they only work here)
Job: Scientific Research, Technology Development, Raving/Partying
Sub-District(s): None
Specific Shops/Important Locations: Bzzt Bzzt, The Prosthetic Research Center
The Firefly District
The wedge district at 3 or 4 on a clock. Buildings look like if Studio Ghibli drew an eastern Asian city. It has a random assortment of shops and apartments. Well known for smithing, lantern crafting, glassblowing, and courtesans.
Councilor: Annora
People Who Live Here Are Called: Fireflies
Job: Creating All of The Glass That The Aurora and Nano Districts Use, Providing Housing for Citizens, Providing Pleasure
Sub-District(s): Red Light Lane
Specific Shops/Important Locations: Flame Licked, Gods of Pleasure, Annora’s Lanterns
The Nebula District
This district would be at 4 or 5 on a clock. Buildings are in a Gothic style with many of the buildings being cathedrals. Weather, astronomical, and astrological predictions are created here along with magical studies. There is something in this district that the Councilor pays heavily to keep a secret.
Councilor: Carina
People Who Live Here Are Called: Lemon Drops, Flight Risks, Spies
Job: Meteorology, Creating Maps for Navigation of the Sky Ships, Astronomy Research, Magic Research, Astrological Research, Intelligence (maybe), Experiments
Sub-District(s): None
Specific Shops/Important Locations: The Stone Tower, The Observatory of Weather and Stars, The Catacombs, Carina’s Workshop, Black Hole Avenue
The Vein District
On a clock this district would be at either 5 or 6. There are no buildings. There are no people. This district was destroyed in the Civil War. The Council has discussed repairing the damage and finding a Councilor for the district but nobody has ever been enthusiastic about it. The wounds of the war are still fresh even though everyone says it is behind them.
Councilor: None
People Who Live Here Are Called: Dead, Buried
Job: Remind Everyone That They Must Work Together
Sub-District(s): None
Specific Shops/Important Locations: None
The Mineral District
This district would be at 6 or 7 o’clock. Well known for the wonderful confectionery treats and gemstones sold here. This district is unique because it has a sub-district that is not apart of the actual City. The Councilor is absent most of the time, but she is the best at her job so they do not replace her.
Councilor: Granite
People Who Live Here Are Called: Gems, Deaf, Sweeties
Job: Supply the City With Metal Ore and Gems, Tourism, Explosives Research
Sub-District(s): The Mines in the foothills of the Scaleback Mountain Range
Specific Shops/Important Locations: Sweet Tree Confections, Spun Crystal Sugar Art, Orange Blossom Gem Shop
The Frostbite District
The clock metaphor is kinda getting old, you can figure out the order of progression at this point. It is basically the holiday order clockwise around a circle. This district is the theater district. Many of the people who live here are not as they appear, especially the Councilor. Rumor has it they aren’t even dragonian.
Councilor: Cheshire
People Who Live Here Are Called: Thespians, Spies
Job: Intelligence (the Nebula is just a front), Tourism
Sub-District(s): None
Specific Shops/Important Locations: The Hearts Theater, The Blue Caterpillar Lounge, The Tea Room
The Butterfly District
The buildings in this district look like monarch butterfly wings. They are Tudor towers (white with black accents) with colored highlights showing who owns the building or what shop is there. The district is run by a beserker. This district is known for odd occurrences, cults, and a feeling of confusion.
Councilor: Sebastian
People Who Live Here Are Called: Butterflies
Job: Defense of the City Proper, Holding the Barracks
Sub-District(s): None
Specific Shops/Important Locations: The Barracks, Pandora’s Workshop, Potions and Poisons
The Chime District
This district is the youngest. It was created after the Civil War. The original Zephyr District was destroyed and the Council was put in place after the war. Currently it is the most laid back and peaceful district. It is home to artists, story tellers, and wanderers (who really should be in the Bazaar but nobody really wants to kick them out).
Councilor: Mirth
People Who Live Here Are Called: Doves, Stoners
Job: None (too new to carve out a niche)
Sub-District(s): None
Specific Shops/Important Locations: Artist’s Loft, The Wind Chime Forest, The Outlook
The Fog District
Not many people like this district. It is the home of unholy creatures and charlatans. It is the only subterranean district. Think of those shark tunnels but that is the whole district. It is like an underwater ant farm. The district is beautiful from above and property bordering it in the Chime District is very expensive. Seers and their followers often settle here. Whether or not they can actually do what they claim is called into question by people in other districts but actual residents don’t care.
Councilor: Irving
People Who Live Here Are Called: Guppies, Sheep, Gullible
Job: Tourism, Ornamental Fish Raising and Exporting, Cults
Sub-District(s): The Hatchery
Specific Shops/Important Locations: The Abandoned Temple, The Temple of Abyss, Iblis’s Aquarium
The Thorn District
Borders the Fog and Aurora Districts. Nobody can actually live or work in this district unless they have a permit. The population of permit holders is 9, only 6 actually live in the district. There are no police or dragonian defenses. Rumor has it that the Councilor is an extremely powerful druid but others say the trees are the guards. Either way, strangers are not welcome.
Councilor: Alphonse
People Who Live Here Are Called: The Chess Set, The Ambassador to the Clarus Clan
Job: Produce Food For the City, Keep Them Contained
Sub-District(s): The Orchard
Specific Shops/Important Locations: Alphonse’s Tree House, The Chess Board

Hey I know the art dragon market is tough as hell but I feel like 900g is like WAY underselling your art, it's so beautiful and detailed, like it's the sort of art I'd expect to see in all the really pretty dragon bestiary-type books I read as a kid (And still read)
It means so much to me that you think my art is that good!! The fr art market really is a mess, and pricing art dragons can be... a challenge. Sometimes they don't sell for weeks, and other times they get sold out within the hour, even with the same amount of time put into them.
The point of the cathedral guard hatchery was to do a quick little sketchy thing, slap it onto a cute baby, and earn a few hundred gems. "They were supposed to be quick sketches", I tell myself for the 8th time, several hours into the rendering process. I really should adjust the prices according to the time I spend on the art, but I just don't think they would sell if I went too much higher. I also know that there are people out there who are saving up to buy art dragons from me, and I don't really want to suddenly make any drastic changes to how this hatchery works.
My commission prices are, however, a lot higher. I think the threshold for buying art for a well-loved dragon is lower than for buying a brand-new baby with premade art. With commissions I also have far less control of the look and the complexity of the piece. It's pretty much the freedom of doing what I want with it that makes me willing to place the prices where they are. It's good practice, but I know it's not sustainable in the long run.
Thank you again for your vote of confidence! Knowing that people actually value my art makes me so happy ❤
