You know how whenever six has an emergency debut they wear a band costume commonly called the emergency shorts? Thats the whole concept. A while back I fell in love with the idea of cosplaying that. While I fully plan to make the leather shorts and band top. A couple of weeks ago when I finally decided my Parr hair I just had to make a closet version. CATHERINE OF ARAGON

Giles Tremlett (2010)

            Catherine of Aragon was the first to marry King Henry VIII and was with him longer than any other wife. She was described as being virtuous, religious, and loyal and was popular with the English people. Catherine was the daughter of monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain and had English royal blood. She was married to Prince Arthur of England (Henry VII’s heir) in 1501, who died weeks after their marriage; Catherine was abandoned in England with no money, little to eat and depressed.  

            After the death of Henry VII, his surviving son, Henry VIII became king and with much chivalry he married Catherine. Henry and Catherine had one surviving child, Princess Mary (later Mary I of England). Catherine turned a blind eye to Henry VIII’s infidelities believing that he would never leave, he eventually did, when he fell in love with Anne Boleyn. Boleyn wouldn’t have sex with him like previous mistresses and this made him want her more. Boleyn didn’t want to be a mistress, she wanted to be wife and queen - and this led to Catherine of Aragon’s downfall. Henry VIII attempted to annual his marriage to Catherine, Catherine resisted and had many power figures supporting her. Henry VIII was spoilt and got what he wanted, his marriage to Catherine came to an end and Henry VIII married Boleyn. Catherine spent the end of her life living in poor health in Kimbolton Castle, she was heartbroken that she wasn’t permitted to see her daughter ever again and died in 1536 of cancer.  

            Giles Tremlett is an historian and author who lives in Madrid, Spain, his book on Catherine of Aragon has been translated into Spanish, Russian and Polish.

Went to see @sixthemusical in the Vaudeville Theatre last Saturday and it was sooo good! I got to see it with my sib sib @themagickalkat and it just made this theatre trip so much better! This was my first time seeing it since I saw it with the OG cast in the London Arts Theatre and this cast was just as good and we were lucky to see a super swing perform because the one playing Jane Seymour fell ill midway through the show, at least we got see both Jane actresses perform which is all that matters! THE ALHAMBRA PALACE AT SUNSET...

A tender, mid September twilight glances against the towering, tremendous ramparts of Granada's storied Alhambra Palace in Southern Andalucia.

This last, Moorish stronghold eventually succumbed, sans bloodshed, to the advancing forces of the Spanish Catholic monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella.

Their daughter, Catherine of Aragon, would go on to become the first wife of King Henry VIII. Of six children conceived over the course of their twenty two year long marriage, only one- the Princess Mary- would survive into adulthood.

Catherine herself was ruthlessly usurped in favour of Anne Boleyn. She bore the charmless old brute another daughter, Elizabeth.

Mary eventually ascended to the throne as Queen Mary I, and became the infamous 'Bloody Mary' of historic legend. She, in turn, married King Phillip II of Spain. That marriage was at best fitful, and at worst fruitless.

On Mary's death, Elizabeth took the throne. A marriage proposal from the newly widowed Phillip was curtly rejected by the new Queen. Phillip simmered with quiet, silent rage.

Elizabeth's hand was eventually forced into the tragic execution of her Catholic doppelganger, Mary, Queen of Scots. Stung to self righteous indignation, Phillip sent the Spanish Armada to subdue Britain.

A combination of better cannonballs, more agile ships and some truly terrifying wind and waves all conspired to send most of it to the bottom...
