I have always loved Gwyn for having the strength to go forward and be able to keep on living 😭 reading the story of Catrin and her was heartbreaking and it just makes me so happy that gwyn found people who love her just as much as Catrin did🥹

For this piece I got inspired by remembering that they used to share a room, and I can imagen Catrin sleeping alongside gwyn when she had bad dreams 😭

Okay, have y'all seen the evil twin theory with Gwyn and Catrin? If not, here's the reddit post.

While the theory has some interesting points and would make a hell of a good plot, there are a few holes in the theory/questions I have and wanted to discuss with anyone because I can't stop thinking about this theory LOL

My burning questions/thoughts under the break....

1. How did Catrin and Koschei meet? How did she become tangled in his pursuits?

2. Can scent be glamoured? If so, this makes sense, if not then this theory doesn't really work? (I can't remember if Feyre's scent was glamoured in ACOTAR)

3. If that wasn't Gwyn in the BC, how did she know to playfully call Az a Shadowsinger in the famous line: See you tomorrow, Shadowsinger (because that to me is a call back to the night at the ring BUT I also think Clotho is going to play a role in how Gwyn and Az get together (it's not a coincidence she's named after one of the fates - perhaps she did tell Gwyn it was from the shadowsinger? Then that would explain the teasing way she said it? Like she would know the necklace came from him?) I also think she has a good sense of smell based on evidence in the book and could smell Az and Elain on the necklace, but anyway...

4. I still think this theory leads to Az and Gwyn together because the spark in his chest was him thinking about the real Gwyn and her bright eyes and happiness, so even if everything else is fabricated, the spark is real - their interactions after Solstice are real.

5. The story of Koschei and The Little Mermaid have a dilemma where someone has to choose the right person, their true love and I think that's the choice Az is going to be faced with

6. The Little Mermaid part of it is a set up that leads to either Gwyn or Az losing their voice, and them knowing who their true love/mate is but not being able to voice it, thus leading to a very dramatic moment of one of them trying to get across the truth...perhaps this is where TT or Mor come in to help? Or even Elain with her visions?

I thought the theory was interesting and fun, but like I said there are some holes in it that I'm wondering about! Let me know your thoughts!

I have a new theory to break your heart. (TW: this one is brutal)

I don't think *we* have met Az's mate.

But I think he has. Two years ago. When he flew into a temple and slaughtered the beasts who were attacking Gwyn - and found his mate, in pieces on the floor, her scent nearly identical to her twin's.

"You'd know if she'd died", Azriel said, pausing his work and looking up at Cassian. He tapped his brother's chest with a scarred hand. "Right here - you'd know, Cass."

I think Az knows how it feels to lose a mate. Intimately.

Because he's already lost his.

Because he was too late.

Anyone ever stopped to think how awesome it'd be for ACOTAR to be from multiple perspectives, like how ToG was? It'd probably solve the issue we have in ACOTAR where we know literally nothing about anyone aside from the Archeron girls, Tamlin, Rhys, Gwyn, maybe Cassian, and Lucien. Imagine getting to read the battle scene in ACOWAR from Cassian's perspective, or reading UTM from Tamlin or Lucien's perspectives, or reading the battle of Velaris from anyone but Feyre, or switching to Catrin's perspective in ACOMAF when they briefly mention the temples getting sacked. Ya'll remember that chapter in HoF (I THINK) that was from the perspective of a random girl in Calaculla and then she DIES? Like, way to raise the stakes, Sarah. I feel like Catrin would be the best choice too. ANYWAYS MOVING ON: High lord meeting from the perspective of anyone but the IC and Tam. It'd be cool to get a kind of unbiased look at it, plus get to be inside the mind of the poor ACOTAR side characters that are oh so cool but are oh so forgotten about. Like, I'm sure to everyone else the whole arguing between Tam and the IC seemed SO childish. And can you imagine the horror when Feyre randomly attacks Beron and LoA?? I'd die to read it from LoA's perspective tbh.

There's so many other scenes that would be oh so cool to read from the perspective of someone other than Feyre (or Nesta in ACOSF). Maybe the perspectives are why I love ToG so much, idk.

When She Became...

Gwyn and Catrin stood next to each other at the temple of Sangravah. Catrin held on to her twin's hand so tightly that nothing could have taken them apart. No matter what happened next, she would never let go of her. The two young females, along with several others, listened to the High Priestess’ sermon as she explained the role that all of them were about to commit to. Several minutes later, the two sisters kneeled and bowed their heads. The High Priestess approached Catrin first and placed a silver circlet adorned with an invoking stone on her head. Then she stood and turned to watch the High Priestess move in front of her twin. Catrin smiled when Gwyn rose again as a Priestess.

Catrin was not there to hold her sister’s hand when Gwyn earned her next title but she hoped that her twin could feel all the love and encouragement she was sending her on the icy wind that morning. From where she was, she could only watch Gwyn with awe. The female who was standing on that rooftop was the same sister that Catrin had been parted with after a terrible night a few years ago. And yet she had evolved into something greater. She had surrounded herself with people who lifted her as much as she lifted them. And Catrin knew that Gwyn, along with her chosen sisters, would only keep rising. Gwyn moved. The world went still as she lunged towards the ribbon, spun and sliced it in half. Pride filled Catrin when Gwyn was declared Valkyrie.

If she could shed tears, Catrin would cry with the Valkyries at the bottom of Ramiel. She would have hugged her twin, telling Gwyn that none of the things that happened to them was her fault. She would have begged her sister to forgive her for not having fought harder. She would have kissed Gwyn’s forehead and tell her how much she loves her. Catrin would have thanked Nesta and Emerie for loving her sister so much. Although her cold, dead heart broke for the former human, she was grateful when she offered Gwyn another chance at living. And still, Catrin prayed for the female. She did not want Gwyn to lose another sister. Catrin prayed for Nesta and prayed for Emerie who carried her twin up that mountain. She begged the Mother and all the forces around her to let them all live. And they listened. If she could shed tears, Catrin would have cried tears of joy when Gwyn became a Carynthian.
