Last weekend, my mom was finally able to get a new car, and it’s a really nice one! It’s a grey-green 2010 hybrid Toyota that drives like a dream and is just all around wonderful. She got a great deal on it, too! It’s just been so wonderful being able to go places whenever we want without having to beg rides from family and friends. Now I just need to practice driving in it so that I can take my driver’s test again and hopefully get my license back (I had it pulled for medical reasons in 2014, but have since been given the all-clear from my doctor to drive again). But that’s not the only good news.
Earlier today, after I got my x-rays and met with my psychiatrist, mom and I went back up to the dealership to get new electronic keys for the car, and as soon as we walked onto the lot I saw this gorgeous calico kitty trot by. I called her over and to my surprise, she came right up to me! Mom and I both immediately started petting her and sweet-talking her, and she ate the attention right up. When the lady who was helping us came back with our new keys, I asked about the kitty, and learned that she was a stray who turned up on the lot two weeks ago. She’d been skinny and starving, so the staff there started feeding her and taking care of her, and so she understandably decided to hang around. They were looking for a permanent home for her, though, and I suppose it goes without saying that they found one.
She was a little nervous at first on the ride home, but she soon settled down into my lap and was quiet and pretty relaxed the rest of the way. Occasionally she’d sit up and look outside the window for a minute, but then she’d lay right back down in my lap. Meeting the other animals was a bit trickier. Our tuxedo cat, Chi, wanted to be friends with her right away, but the feeling was not mutual. Their arguments have so far only been verbal, as neither wants to approach the other just yet, but I’m sure that given time they’ll learn to at least tolerate each other. As for the dogs, my elderly dachshund Sokka couldn’t have cared less about the new family member, and Pippin the chihuahua/dachshund mutt wasn’t terribly interested either. His brother Jig tried to sniff at her and got catslapped for his trouble, but he’s kind of a jerk and probably deserved it, so I can’t feel too sorry for him. Anyway, I had her in the living room near me for an hour or so after we got home, but then I moved her (along with some food, water and a litter box) to my bedroom, where she’ll stay for a few days while she gets acclimated. I stayed in there with her for a while and discovered that she likes having her face scratched (not so much her chin) and she loves sleeping on my feet. Also, as affectionate as she is, she’s also very elegant and regal, and she has a lovely, almost musical meow. <333
These pictures don’t do her coloring the least bit of justice, by the way. Still, who could resist that sweet little face? Not me!
Anyway, now I need to come up with a name for her. I’m kind of leaning towards Asami, but I haven’t made up my mind yet, and yes, I am open to suggestions! Hopefully I’ll have picked one by the time I take her to the vet on Tuesday.
