I am continually astounded by the fact that a lot of people just….. don’t use Google (or insert search engine of choice). And it’s not a generational thing- I see it a lot with young people too. 

I just read someone commenting on a post on here that “a friend said that Trump was impeached again but idk how reliable that is”. 

My bud. If you have access to Tumblr you have access to the rest of the internet. It would be one thing to say that in person, maybe you’re not online at this exact moment/don’t have access to the internet, BUT YOU’RE WRITING THAT ON THE INTERNET?? Swipe over to the app that you use to access the internet or open a new tab on your browser and do a quick little search and you’ll know if it’s true??

Like honestly a good 80% of what I do in the library is google things. Someone asks me an easily google-able question and I put on a Serious Information Professional face and make Considering Noises and open google. And I work in a college so we’re talking about 17-22 year olds. 

Idk. Maybe that’s why we’re at the point we are as a society with fake news- people just don’t check things for themselves. And there IS something to be said about how people don’t know how to evaluate information sources and that’s something that needs to be a part of the educational curriculum from a young age… but if people aren’t even bothering to check simple, easily verifiable information for themselves?? Yeah idk.
