Behind the jokes and badassness, Captain Marvel is a fascinating character to me, because of how death follows her.
She causes an explosion. That explosion, which gives her powers and her immortality, canonically kills her. The Kree Empire resurrects her and makes her as Kree as they can. She shares Yon-Rogg's blood and his life, she's his creation, she's his victim, she's the one who causes his downfall, she's the one that destroys the system, the society, the planet that allowed her to be abused.
It's the Kree that see her as a killer and Annihilator. She's a monster of their own making, but it influences every species and planet she touches. Her victories cause death and her mistakes cause more death. Carol's triumph, the death of the Supreme Intelligence, results in the death of probably millions of Kree, and by consequence, almost causes the death of Hala's star.
"I'm only human" Carol says, before killing the Empire that is the reason that she can't ever be human again.
"We'll be back for the weapon," Ronan says, but that weapon will kill everything he stands for.
"Your life began the day it nearly ended," The Supreme Intelligence says, coldly, calculatingly. It's an AI. It doesn't have a good concept of death. It doesn't fully grasp that Carol had genuinely been killed that day, because she's still in front of it. Carol kills it.
"Death seems to follow you," Dar-Benn says, before she causes an explosion with the bangles, trying to defeat Carol. The explosion kills Dar-Benn.
Death follows Carol. Death follows Carol! Mar-Vell is dead. Maria is dead. Talos is dead. Soren is dead. Ronan is dead. Minn-Erva is dead. Korath is dead. Dar-Benn is dead. Yon-Rogg is, probably, dead. The Supreme Intelligence is dead. Natasha is dead. Tony is dead.
The only people in Carol's life who aren't dead are Kamala, Monica, Yan, Valkyrie, and Fury.
She watches helplessly as Dar-Benn almost murders Kamala after Kamala tries to save Dar-Benn's life, tries to find a way to solve the violence without death.
She watches helplessly as Monica gets torn into another reality, which for all she knows, she could die in. The tear in reality that was caused by Dar-Benn's death.
She tries to hide Yan's existence from her friends and tries to warn him and his people. The Kree soldiers aren't fighting to maim, they're fighting to kill. He escapes death by his own fighting skills and the fact that the Kree would rather focus on killing Carol than him.
Valkyrie and Carol interact once, and she only calls when she needs help after a fight, not during. Think about it. Valkyrie and the Bifrost could have helped the trio enormously. But Carol doesn't call until the fights are over. It would be very easy for a regular Asgardian warrior to die compared to superhumans.
And Fury... have you seen how often Fury comes close to dying? He's alive from skill and luck. He is lucky that he isn't dead.
Captain Marvel is so, so fascinating. Her story begins with her own death, and the more it goes on, the more death happens around her. Nobody is safe. She causes almost all of them, even the ones of her friends - not directly, but through the consequences of her actions. The consequences of her victories and mistakes. The consequences of her anger and revenge, her power and powerlessness. It is caused by both the Human and Kree sides of her, by both Carol and Vers, Captain Marvel and the Annihilator.
Carol is immortal. She can't die. And death follows her anyway.

To Love Her
Carol Danvers x Reader
You help Carol calm down after she has an intense day in space
Note: Carol Danvers just needs a hug and someone to tell her she’s good enough. And you know, her abs to be admired. Enjoy this one!
Carol Danvers Masterlist, Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
Every so often Carol asks you to spend some time in space with her, and you always say yes. How could you not when she’s such an alluring woman?
Most days flying around the universe are pretty uneventful. But the intense days are nothing short of insane.
Today has been one of those days. Carol woke you up urgently when she was notified of a disturbance on a planet that you were nearby. She kissed you briefly, cloaked the ship, and flew off to investigate the scene.
You’ve been watching from afar since she left. You’re not really able to tell what’s happening, but it’s been so long you can’t imagine that it’s anything good.
After hours, you finally see Carol flying towards you. She uncloaks the ship and flies into the hatch. When she lands, she stumbles a bit.
“Are you okay?” You ask her, rushing to her side.
“I’m fine,” she says, but you can tell she’s lying. She types in coordinates for the next location.
You pour her a glass of water. She drinks it down quickly and sits on the edge of her bed. Carol unzips the top half of her suit and pulls it down to her hips. You love when she does this. Her arms and abs are on display.
“What happened, baby?”
“The Kree. Again.”
“I’m sorry,” you say, knowing of her long history with them.
“I just hate that I hurt them even though I thought what I did was the right thing to do. Even though they are the evil ones,” Carol explains.
“I think it’s okay to feel guilty for hurting them even if they hurt you first,” you say. “And they have the wrong perception of you.”
“The annihilator,” she says dryly. “Maybe they’re right.”
“No,” you immediately say. “They couldn’t be more wrong, Carol. You are so good. So so good.”
She stands abruptly and speaks again, “I just cause destruction. I’m no good.”
“Carol,” you say. “Carol, look at me.”
When she doesn’t, you walk to her. You try to take her hands but she pulls away.
“I don’t want to hurt you too,” Carol says.
“You won’t.”
“I will. In fact, I’m sure I already have.”
“Sweetheart, please just give me your hands,” you try. “Please?”
She looks at you reluctantly, but lets you slide your fingers into hers. You step closer to her, looking her in the eyes.
“You are not an annihilator,” you say firmly. “You’re Carol Danvers. You are the love of my life. You are the most beautiful, loving, and badass woman I have ever met.”
“I’m not- I’m not good for you,” she says. You haven’t seen her lack this much self confidence before. Today really rattled her.
“How can I prove to you that you are?” You ask. “Because you are, my love. You’re so good for me. You make me a better person.”
“I do?”
“Oh yeah.”
“I just- I got scared today. Truly terrified. I’m sorry I’m taking it out on you.”
“You do seem shaken up. Can I help you calm down?”
She nods. You lift her hand to your lips and kiss it. And repeat it with the other.
Next, you hug her. You wrap your arms around her waist while she embraces you back. One hand comes to the back of your head to pull you closer while the other drifts down your back.
“I love you,” you whisper with your head buried in her neck.
“I love you,” Carol says. “Thank you for being here.”
“Of course, my love. Do you want to lie down?”
You feel her nod against you. Maneuvering the strong woman as best as you can, you move to the bed with her. Carol lets herself relax against you.
Her body weight against you calms you down as well. You hadn’t realized you needed to relax so badly.
“If we stay like this, I might fall asleep,” Carol says.
“What’s wrong with that?” You ask in a tone so cute Carol chuckles.
“Nothing at all. It always feels like nighttime up here anyways.”
“It does,” you agree. “Get some sleep, baby. I love you so much.”
“I love you more,” Carol replies. Her voice is sleepy. Her arm wraps tighter around your body as she buries herself impossibly closer to you.
“I’ll let you win this time,” you say. “But I love you most and you know it.”
“No way,” she mumbles.
You rub your hand over her back as she falls asleep. Eventually you fall asleep too.
Carol is so glad that you were here this time to save her. You’ll always be there to remind her just how good she is.

Groot and Rocket began their descent into the night, Rocket grumbling about how tired he is. Walking sneakily down the halls into the bowels of the arena, they came across the large iron gate, behind it presumably the cells where they keep their prisoners, if you can even call them prisoners, they were really beginning to doubt The Grandmasters word. Before they approached the door, they stopped to take recon of it, as there were two large guards currently chatting about the next gladiator battle.
“Did you hear about the sold out show?” one asked the other,
“It’s terrible we have to work, I would have killed to see this fight, at night no less, the grandmaster may be a monster, but he’s honestly a business genius”
“Yeah a sold out night show. free snacks to the first 100 guests”
Groaning at this new info, Rocket pulled out his communicator and typed the info to Gamora and the others, as Groot innocently walked towards the gate and two guards.
“Oh what the hell”
Without missing a beat, Groot sprung out two vines, grabbing the legs of both guards and slamming them unconscious onto the ground.
“Groot?! What am i gonna do with you huh?” Rocket, groaned, grabbing the keys off one of the guards and unlocking the gate.
“I am Groot” said Groot
Entering the cell area, Rocket’s ears were greeting by the shouting and commotion that was coming from the male cells to the left. Striding over with a grin, as Rocket enjoys a good fight, he peered into the cell, watching a large figure beat the hell out of a much smaller fish looking alien.
The little creature begged for mercy, the large figure threw his body down on the ground and roared to the rest of the audience watching this display of dominance.
Rocket interrupted this show of brawns beating brains, taking his blaster and running it along the edges of the bars, causing the sound of metal to vibrate off the walls, gathering everyone's attention.
“Hey freaks! It’s one of you guys lucky day! I'm here to bust you out of here-”
Poor choice of words as almost everyone rushed to the front of the bars, grasping at the air in in front of rocket, begging to be let out.
“Woah woah woah! I’m only here for one of you rodeo clowns, so stand forward if you’re one of these guys” Rocket announced, showing his hologram of the clowns.
Like moths to a flame, an insect, a Yautja, a Xandarian, a  Kronan, and a Kree walked to the front of the cell, the other four moving away from the beast that was causing a ruckus earlier.
“There you are xandar!” Rocket chuckled, unlocking the gate pointing his blaster at the rest to keep the back, “Your wife (y/n) called for us to come find you”
Once your name was spoken the yautja charged at the gate, pushing past Rocket down the hall.
“Not my problem right now”, he groaned, dragging the xandarian along with him filling him in on what’s going to happen to you soon if they don’t get you both off planet soon.
“My-my wife?” the xandarian whos name is Toto asked, following far, but close enough behind
“Yeah yeah, you’ll see your wife soon, let just-”, but before he could finish Gamora sent him a  message to hurry back immediately.
Without hesitation Groot and Rocket began to run down the hall, Groot using his vines to grasp Toto's leg and drag him down the hall like a sack of flour.
A bit earlier before Rocket retrieved your ‘husband’, Gamora had tried to retrieve you herself, but discovered your cell empty. The shocking discovery made Gamora briefly panic, looking into the empty cell, she began to fear the worse and turned to return to the group, she was caught by the guards of the Grandmaster, finding herself captured and bound by cuffs.
“Where is the rest of your crew?” one of them demanded from her.
Gamora simply scoffed and refused to reply to the man who currently held her in cuffs. In a last ditch effort, the Guard called the rest of his men to return to their room, and grabbing Gamora’s communicator, messaged Rocket to come back to their room urgently. setting up an ambush for them.
But where were you currently?
Hours before Gamora could come to your rescue, the Grandmaster himself had come to your cell, and taken you to prepare for your debut.
You were dressed in a fine gown, like seafood on a platter, ready to be fed to the most hungry of beasts. You were currently chained to a large rock in the center of the grand arena, awaiting the champion to come take your life.
Once the grandmaster had Rocket, Groot, and Gamora, he had them cuffed in the viewing box. Toto was there as well, but he was not bound in chains.
“What gives?” Rocket struggled against his constraints
“Well you see my little furry monstrosity of a friend, Toto here is one of my favorite rodeo clowns, he would never betray me,” The Grandmaster chuckled, sipping on some of his expensive wine.
“Argh! What about your wife (y/n)?” Gamora shouted
“Uhm...I like men...” Toto said sheepishly, and like that the Grandmaster clapped his hands, and Toto was taken back to his cell.
“Rocket how could you get the wrong man?!” Gamora scolded, staring at Rocket and Groot with angry eyes
“Well I didn’t have much to go on...But I got a feeling her husband got a head start....”
“What does that even mean?” Gamora hissed
“I think he knows” Rocket smirked, looking at the Grandmaster
The Grandmaster groaned, knowing full well what this meant.
“Do you know how long? How long I looked for a beast like that? How hard it was to even capture him?” the Grandmaster uttered under his breath
The grandmaster recalled the events that led to your capture, it brought him a bit of joy recalling  how he managed to get the both of you.
For days they tracked you two, they tracked and they tracked, unable to find you. Until one day you were tired, you were tired of running, you needed to rest. You didn't know why they kept sending men, they had lost so many already. You collapsed onto the cold ground, your husband, who you called Spike, due to the condition of his mandibles being spiked outward, turned to you, begging you to stand up, it wouldn’t be long until your ship, you could escape. His large rough hand, caressing your face gently, he could carry you if he wanted, but he was also exhausted. Standing to your feet again, you felt motivated to move, but then a grapple gun set off, encasing you in a net and dragging you away, your screaming going faint in the distance that was currently growing between you two.
Spike charged after you, finding you surrounded by the Grandmasters men, guns pinned to all sides of your body, and then the Grandmaster himself stepping out of the shadows.
“Well well well...we have a bit of a deal to make don’t me?” he said with that evil grin of his.
And here you were, trapped again, your life about to end. You began to sob.
But you weren’t gonna die, Drax and Quill were all that were left of the guardians, and perhaps your husband resented you. Hated you for getting him caught, for making a mockery of his race.
The lights came on in the arena, and they blinded your for a brief moment. Reopening your eyes, you looked up to see a full house, and that large blue hologram of the Grandmaster appear across all sides of the arena.
“Dearest Patrons! I hope you’ve stocked up on snacks and drinks, I’d like to show you my newest champion! I found him on the desert planet, and I think he’s a little hungry for blood. Our little bird (y/n) will do just nice”
With that the hologram disappeared, and the large gate across the way began to raise up, the champion slithered out with a hiss.
A large serpent like beast appeared, large fangs, at least 60 feet long, full of pure muscle. It hissed, and began to make it’s way towards you. You began to struggle against you constraints, as the beast who I will call snake for the sake of combat story writing began to coil back into a striking pose. You braced yourself for an impact that never came.
Instead you could hear the sounds of rockets, and blasters, as Quill and Drax charged from the stands into the arena, shooting blasters at snake to gather its attention away from you.
Quill took off his Star lord mask and shouted to Drax
“I’ve got this get her out of those binds!”
Drax shouted something about wanting to be in the fight as well, but grumbled and made his way over to you. Groaning about how he is so useful in combat and how it’s a waste of his time to be here.
Quill was quickly slapped back by Snakes tail, and the attention was back on the two of you, snakes end of his tail, gripping onto Drax, and slamming him back into Quill against the wall/
The monsters eyes turned back towards you, and began to coil up again to attack. He released his muscles to launch himself at you, but was blasted painfully in the face, this time purple blood was visible on the ground.
The crowd began to go rowdy as the action was kicking up, Quill throwing his mask on the ground and tuning to Drax.
“What was that?” he shouted, as there seemed to be no one else in the arena, but you knew. You began to cry happy tears, struggling against you restraints. Hearing that familiar clicking sound of your husbands mandibles, a figure began to appear through the air, as if he wasn’t there before. The Yautja stood tall, as he had run out of the cell to gather his equipment, his plasma rifle stood proud on his shoulder, still hissing the smoke that it produced from firing a single blast towards snake.
He quickly ran over to you, and using his strength, he ripped the chains off the rock wall restraining you. You pulled Spike into a hug, which he quickly reciprocated, but quickly throwing you down to the ground, as another thrust of the snakes tail tried to take a swipe at your heads. Quill now free, started firing at snake again, this time aiming at the wound upon his face. Drax quickly equipping his daggers ran up and charged at his face, using the rock wall that used to hold you as a boost, he managed to stab the side of snakes face, and using his weight he dragged the daggers down his neck, slicing a large chuck of his body off, the blood lost was too grand and snake fell to the ground dead.
The crowd began to cheer and throw things into the arena, Quill and Drax ran over to you and Spike.
“This guy huh?” Quill asked, “Any particular reason?”
“What do you mean by that?” you asked, holding onto Spikes arm, happy to have your mate back in your reach
“He mans that he is very ugly! I mean you’re very ugly as well, but he! He is a new level of hideous!” Drax laughed, and was quickly silenced by  having his head driven to the ground by Spikes clawed hand.
Before anything else could happen, a loud crash could be heard from the Grandmasters viewing box, as he was thrown from the box. Gamora, Rocket and Groot, sliding down on vines.
Without a word the group and you began to make haste towards their ship. The Grandmaster was caught by one of his hologram drones, and soon enough sent drones to fire at their ship. But failed to stop you as you had managed to escape into the depths of space.
You couldn’t stop thanking Gamora for rescuing you and Spike.
“Please stop thanking me, it’s an honor to help people” she would reply, much to Quills annoyance as it was a group effort to get you out.
The trip back to the planet you called home was about a weeks time. Within that time Spike began to keep you close, as a new level of protection made itself known. On the first rest of the ship, the two of you were given your space in a guest room at the bottom of the ship.
You would sit on the edge of the bed and await to be scolded by him. Yet he never did, he would meet you at the edge and kneel down, and look up into your eyes, taking your hands into his, he would purr into your lap, content and happy that you were once his again. The second night, Drax demanded to learn some hand to hand fighting technique's from Spike, which were often met with Spike demolishing Drax, as he was over confident in his skills. The third night, the group had to make a stop at a small off course planet to fill up, the two of you caused a commotion as no one had seen a Yautja  in their mists in centuries.
Returning to your shares room Spike grabbed your face, and placed his forehead against yours.
“Do you often fear my appearance?” he asked, his communicator buzzed along his chest.
“I do not, why do you ask?” you replied, cupping his face in your small hands, rubbing your thumbs across his jaws.
“You are...very appealing to me”
You smiled and placed a kiss on his forehead.
“You are very handsome to me”

The Marvels spoilers ahead
I went to see The Marvels again and I had some thoughts about ValCarol as they have taken up a lot of my mind.
Carol immediately went to hug Val when she got there, needing that comfort from her friend (possibly more than) and I really liked that scene between them. Val held her hands and gave her words of encouragement and it was so sweet! Val even had a nickname for Carol but I did find it interesting that it was her hero name and not her actually name.....I wonder why that is.
Val was so soft and patient with Carol and I wonder if she wants something more with Carol but maybe knows or thinks that she's not quite ready for that, a romantic relationship.
Or maybe they do have something more but haven't put a name on it or made anything official....I dunno
Carol hasn't at that point fixed her relationship with Monica and was still trying to fix/deal the situation she caused with the Skrull/Kree. So even tho she's lonely, I wonder if she thinks she isn't ready for love, either romantically or from family. She's just a little lost and vulnerable and it was an interesting character arc thing...I don't know what to call it.
Or I'm just spouting possible headcanons and just wanted to talk about them cuz I lost it during that scene with them. Ohmigoodness! I was so excited when Val showed up cuz I've seen in the past some like teasers for a ValCarol ship but didn't think it would go anywhere and then it possible did and I lost it!

Spoilers for the marvels!!!
Ngl I kinda wish Monica had more of an angry outburst towards Carol abandoning her and Maria. Like that woman was her second parent then she just disappeared for over 20 years. Sure she had to fix the mess she created and didn’t want Monica to see that side of her but still, one visit was enough.
So I’ve decided to write a little confrontation scene because I felt like the movie needed it. So this is set after they go through multiple jump points and land on a deserted piece of land…
“I told you not to do it!” Carol scolded Kamala, her eyes lighting up making the younger girl shrink in her seat.
“Hey, it’s not her fault,” Monica cut in, stepping in front of the teenager, “If anything, it’s yours.”
“No, Monica I—“ Kamala was interrupted when Monica spat at Carol, “If you weren’t hellbent on revenge, we wouldn’t be in this mess!”
“They took everything from me. I did what I had to do,” Carol replied making Monica scoff, “And that warranted you to destroy their civilization? You think you’re better than them? You’re exactly like them!”
“I didn’t mean to cause a civil war, I didn’t think they—
“Yeah, you don’t think, Carol,” Monica stated harshly, “You never think. You always jump in headfirst regardless of the consequences. Everything to you is a game.”
“Monica, I think that’s enough,” Kamala tugged at her arm but the older woman shrugged her off, “You don’t get it Kamala. You idolize Carol, you think she’s perfect but she’s not.”
Then she glared at Carol again, saying, “It was better knowing that you died in that crash.”
“You’re right,” Carol finally spoke up, tears welling in her eyes, “This is all my fault.”
Looking right at Monica, she said, “I’m sorry for abandoning you and your mom and I’m sorry that I got you and Kamala involved in this.”
Then before Monica could retort, she added, “I didn’t come back because I was afraid of letting you see that side of me, the one the Kree call the Annihilator. I was ashamed of what I did and I thought that if I could help the Skrulls, I could fix everything, that I could make myself worthy of the title of Captain Marvel. All my life, I’ve been belittled, said that I wasn’t good enough and I thought that I could finally do something good with my powers. But I was wrong. I messed everything up..I didn’t mean to abandon you and your mom.”
“See? She apologized, now hug it out and then we can kick Dar- Benn’s ass.” Kamala said, pushing Monica forward towards Carol’s direction.
Sighing. Monica replied, “I can’t forgive you right now, but we have to stop a maniac from stealing our sun, so truce?”
“I’ll take it,” Carol told her.

Was completely unaware she was hurting people

Knew full well he was hurting people
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All Carol needs is to see the people to know it's wrong. She needed to be lied to and have the truth about the refugees hidden from her because otherwise she would have never been apart of the Kree empire even if she believed she was a Kree. For Carol what's most important is for others to know not only that she never meant to harm but she is sorry for what harm she did cause. She's sorry, no one needs to prompt her to say it.
Mobius can't stop hiding behind the same excuses. He thought he was the good guy. Confronted with the clearly messed up things which good guys don't do he just says he thought ends justify the means but he never denied what he did was wrong. For Mobius what's most important is that Sylvie know he thought he was right and that she also did bad things. He has to be cornered into an apology.

Library Talks

Asgard 2011
Loki couldn't tell what Astri was thinking as the week flew by. He was kept busy with different kingly duties, primarily meetings and at one point he imparted his blessing on a noble family's newest child. His free time was divided between Astri and his mother. Frigga had only left Odin's side to bathe and change her clothes while Astri was spending most of her time as far away from the throne room as possible. He could tell she was uncomfortable talking to him whenever he was on the throne so they hadn't seen each other since their moment in the weapons vault.
He had spent much of his time today plotting. He wanted to be rid of Odin permanently. Thor was already out of the picture. Loki had visited him once on Earth and given him the news that their father had "passed". Thor's face indicated that he was distraught but, Loki only saw the emotion show when he lied about their mother's feelings towards Thor. His next step to being on the throne was rather simple. Laufey had agreed to kill Odin, of course, he had he hated the old man as much as Loki did. Now, all Loki had to do was follow all the way through with his plan, and Joutunheim and his true parentage would be gone for good. Then, he could truly be worthy. That was truly what he wanted. He wanted to feel less alone and more worthwhile. Most of all, he wanted to be someone Astri could be proud of growing up with. Tomorrow his plans would be set in motion and when they finished he'd finally be Thor's equal, someone worthy of his station in life.
He had initially sworn he wouldn't visit Astri until after he was someone she'd be proud of but after his final council meeting his legs carried him to her. From his spot in the doorway of the library, she could see her. Her long hair was free-flowing and shone as the sun streamed into the room. He smiled when her nose scrunched slightly, the book on the desk in front of her the cause.
"What are you reading?" He asked taking the seat beside her
"Some of the the Kree's history. It's rather violent." Astri said shutting the book.
Loki nodded slowly. Maybe coming here wasn't a good idea. Astri didn't seem exactly thrilled to see him in fact, she seemed rather tired and maybe a bit stressed.
"How was ruling Asgard today?" She asked
"It was fine. It would have been better if you had eaten lunch with me the way you normally do." He said
   "I was busy," Astri mumbled
"With what? Reading your life away in this stuffy room?" He questioned, angered by her response
"Why does it even matter to you what I do with my time? You should be busy giving orders and kissing babies." Astri said
"It matters because we have spent the last thousand years together and all of a sudden you decide I am no longer worth your time because I have a new position. If anything you should be glad for me, celebrating that I am on the throne instead of that oaf." Loki spat
"God it's always about Thor!" Astri exclaimed springing from her chair and beginning to walk to the door
"It is not always about Thor." Loki said, blocking her escape route "I just...want..."
"What do you want Loki?" She asked avoiding his eyes.
He thought about telling her his plans to get rid of the Joutuns about how he had lied to Thor about Odin. But then he thought about how she'd react. Her love for Thor would outweigh her love for him and he'd be met with nothing but judgment.
"Fine. Don't tell me anything. You never do anyway." Astri said before slamming the door in his face.
Loki was left in the library just like that, alone and in deafening silence. In his mind, whatever reservations he had about his plans for tomorrow melted away as Astri ran away from him and his ideals.
⋆⭒˚。⋆
That night, Astri's dreams were particularly vivid. Maybe it was her fight with Loki or the fact that she missed Thor and his bad jokes and infinite appetite for ale but she found herself dreaming of her past.
Asgard 2001
The party had lasted long, even by Asgardian standards. Astri swore, Thor and Volstagg couldn't get any drunker as she snuck away from the hall. She had been invited to drink some more with them but she feared that if one more thing went into her stomach she'd explode. The night air of the gardens was perfectly refreshing as she walked and admired the flowers that were in bloom.
"Too much time with Thor?" a voice asked
Astri turned to see Loki standing behind her, his usual armor was gone and he was in a much more comfortable version of his usual attire.
   "Something like that." Astri smiled
"I'm glad you're here," Loki said falling into step with her
"Of course you are. I'm great." Astri bragged, laughing when Loki cast her a sideways glance.
"Anyway...I'm glad you're here because I've been wanting to give this to you." Loki said, his palm glowing suddenly and a silver necklace with soft green stones appeared.
"I saw this on Thor and I's trip to Xandar. I thought it would suit you nicely."Loki said holding it so the moonlight glinted off the stones.
   "It's beautiful." Astri breathed
"Turn. I want to see it on you." Loki said
The coolness of the metal was a stark contrast to her face which was going red as Loki fastened the necklace on her. Her hair was brushed slightly by his fingertips as the silver shone in the moonlight.
   "There," Loki said proudly
Astri turned back to him awaiting his opinion.
"It is perfect. I knew I had a good eye." He smiled  straightening the necklace
"Thank you, Loki. I love it." Astri said bringing him into a warm hug.
Astri woke up, her ceiling stared back at her as she wrapped her fingers around the necklace that sat on her. She only removed it when she bathed, it was one of the few things she had that she truly treasured and Loki had given it to her. She wished she could time travel back to that moment to see the Loki she had grown up with not the one who was sitting on the throne now. She wished Loki would understand that she didn't want the king of Asgard. She just wanted him. Loki as he was before his ambitions truly got the better of him.
Hello everyone Sorry this update is later than I had expected. I recently moved houses so things are crazy since there's stuff all over our new place. This chapter is a little short since I was preoccupied with the move. I promise to get back to better-quality chapters asap.

With the Skrulls now saved from the Kree, at least for right now, you and Carol met Maria and Fury back at Maria's house for a last-dinner kind of thing. Most of the Skrulls decided to go back to Mar-Vell's lab to prepare to move again while Talos, Soren, and their child join you back at Maria's house. She did a really good job flying the plane to avoid whatever Kree was on her ass, and Fury won't let her forget it.
"That's some nifty flying you did out there. SHIELD could always use a good pilot like you."
"I'll consider it, as long as you don't call my flying nifty again."
Fury's eye is all scratched that you assume came from Goose.
"How's your eye?" you question the agent.
"Getting better every second. I'll be fine."
"Is it true that Goose scratched your eye?"
"I will neither deny nor confirm the details of that story."
"She did. I saw it happen," Maria confesses, making you cackle.
"Just so I'm clear, you were Soh-Larr and the SHIELD agent?" Carol asks Talos.
"Yeah, he tied my boss up and stole his identity," Fury interjects, ignoring your teasing remarks about how a cat got the better of him.
"I borrowed his likeness. I'm no thief."
"It's a little like a thief," Soren shrugs.
"Whose side are you on?"
"You're good to go here until you recover, but you and your family will need a new look."
"I could go back to being your boss."
"Please don't."
"Come on. I love sporting his beautiful blue eyes."
"I'll help you find a home and finish what Mar-Vell started," Carol offers.
You open your mouth to agree but nothing comes out of it. First, you think about Bucky and Steve and how you left this planet to get away from the pain it caused you, but then you think about how you promised yourself that this would be your new home away from Xenia and Markus. You fled once, you can't do this to Earth again. It needs protecting, and who will protect it if you leave?
"They can stay here with us, can't they, Mom?" Monica asks from the stairs where she and Talos' daughter are.
"They won't be safe here, baby. Auntie Carol is right. They need their own home."
"I'll be back before you know it," she says.
"Excuse me," you whisper.
You grab your plate of unfinished food and walk into the kitchen to do the dishes. Carol and Fury look at each other before getting up and doing the same. Leaving Carol behind and staying on Earth hurts differently than when you lost Bucky. Bucky died and you didn't have a choice but to move on with your life. You're deciding to leave even though it hurts you to do so.
"Are you okay?" Carol asks.
"Yeah."
"Let me help you with that," Fury offers and takes the wet dishes to dry.
He notices dry tears on your cheeks and gestures to Carol to talk to you.
"We beat the Kree and Ronan. What's wrong?"
"I don't know if I can go with you when you leave," you whisper.
This is a conversation to have privately so she puts it on the back burner for now. She rubs your back in a comforting way and takes out the pager that she took from Fury. She's modified it a bit so that he can always contact her whenever she may be.
"Here, there is something I want you to have. Plus, I need you to keep the Tesseract hidden here on Earth." She hands him the pager. "I upgraded it. The range should be a couple of galaxies, at least. For emergencies only."
"What? Do you think I'm gonna crank call you?"
"For emergencies only. From the looks of it, you'll have Y/N in case something goes wrong."
"Well, if you're ever passing back through this galaxy, be sure to give a brother a shout," he says. "I can finish up here. You two can take off."
"Come on."
Carol takes you outside to have a private conversation with you. She knows what you're going to say but lets you say it anyways.
"As much as I want to go with you, I can't leave Earth. The universe needs you, Carol but Earth needs me. The Tesseract is here, so someone is going to come for it sooner or later. She'll need someone to protect it."
"I agree."
"I'd be too selfish if I kept you from everyone else," you sigh sadly, "but I don't want to leave you. I love you."
"I love you, too. I'm not asking you to choose but I do have to leave. I can't stay on this planet knowing wars are going on out there that I can help fight."
"I know."
She pulls you in for a hug and allows you to cry on her shoulder for however long you need.
"This doesn't change anything between us. I want you to live your life. I don't know when I'll be back, but I don't want you to be lonely. I want you to meet someone, fall in love, and live your life. You'll always have a special place in my heart."
"So will you," you sniffle and pull away from her.
"If we are meant to be, we'll find our way back to each other. I can guarantee that."
"I should go, then. I wish you the best of luck, my love."
"Same here."
You kiss her one last time knowing this will be the last in a while. If you stay any longer, you're going to cry so you pull away from her and take off toad the sky. With no viable threat over your life, you can pick a place and settle down. You haven't had a home for at least fifty years.
New York has too many painful memories and London reminds you of Bucky. When you first came to Earth with Carol, you landed in Northern California. The beaches there are beautiful so maybe living in that state won't be such a bad thing. You can get a place along the beach and enjoy your life by yourself.
Malibu is nice this time of year, and you settle in quicker than you thought you were. You have a bit of money saved from the 40s that you never got to spend, so you use it to buy yourself a house on the beach. The town of Malibu is compact and busy but you don't mind being surrounded by this many people. It gives you an opportunity to learn about humans from what you missed over the years.
It takes a week after moving in to explore the town, so you're walking along the coast when you pass by a tall man sporting white hair and a mustache and a shorter woman with blonde hair.
"Y/N?"
You stop and face the couple with a confused look on your face.
"Yes. Do I know you?"
"It's me. Howard Stark."
"Howard? Wow, you've grown."
"You stayed exactly the same."
Hearing him say this makes you a bit sad knowing you'll probably never grow old. You'll always be the same age as you were when you first injected Markus' serum.
"Well, you know..."
"Wait, I thought you died. I thought you and Steve died when the plane went down. We searched for you two for months after the wreck."
"Steve died. I left Earth for fifty years."
"She's the one you were talking about?" Howard's wife says. "She's the Avatar?"
"That's me," you shrug.
"What are you doing here?"
"I bought a place on the beach. I spent the last sixty years fighting in wars I shouldn't have been fighting in. I figured what harm will it do if I take a few years to myself. What have you been up to?"
"I'm retired now. I have a few billion dollars to my name. I got married and had a son. Would you like to meet him?"
"Of course."
Howard and his wife, Maria, take you back to their house where their young adult son is.
"Tony? Come down here. There's someone I want you to meet." Tony comes down the stairs with a bored expression on his face. "Tony, this is Y/N."
Tony's heard the stories his father used to tell about a righteous man with super strength and a woman who can control the elements. He didn't think those stories were true until he sees you. There are very few pictures of Howard back in the day, but some of them contain you and Steve.
"Is this the same Y/N that you worked with back then? The one with Steve?"
If you're going to be in Tony's life, then he has a right to know exactly who you are.
"Yes, it is." You stick your hand out for him to shake, and you give him a polite smile. "It's very nice to meet you, Tony."

Rocketober: Day 6 Bounty Hunter
Rocket was expecting the bounty that he had taken to be an easy job, finding the person named on the paper and hauling their ass over alive to where they needed to go. Some jackass on Contraxia was paying a hundred credits to have this person returned to them, something about a huge debt owed, Rocket didn’t care he just needed some quick funds to secure a better ship to fly. He found her at the edge of Kree space on the planet Lamentis hiding out in a shack just outside of one of the bustling marketplace, Rocket's scanner was able to verify using biometrics that he had the right person; Opaline.
The sage green hood had kept most of her features covered but after Rocket had used his blaster set to stun to knock her out he was able to get a good look at her. Long strands of curly blonde hair curtained the fragile features that made up the girl's face, long lashes and full lips Rocket could only assume what happened to her on Contraxia. Rocket made sure to keep his bounty securely bound to the seat next to him as this tiny ship didn’t have a holding bay for prisoners, so this was going to have to do. His prisoner was silent so silently in fact that Rocket didn’t notice when she woke up and turned to be trapped in a set of brilliant vermillion eyes but Opaline didn’t say so much as a peep.
At first it didn’t bother Rocket, it was nice not to hear his bounty beg for their freedom but once the second day hit, knowing that there were still four days left in travel time, Rocket was beginning to crave some form of conversation. It took an impromptu fight with a bunch of space pirates (not Ravangers) who also tried to take his bounty before he heard Opaline speak in a voice more delicate than crystal.
“I appreciate you” Before something tumbled out of her mouth and onto the floor below as Rocket picked it up he could see that it was a pile of three units and when locking eyes with Opaline who looked terrified.
“Explain” Rocket’s voice was gruff, leaving no room for argument; he wanted to know what the krutracking flark was going on here!
“Every woman in the maternal family will have twins, always girls and the oldest set of twins gets what is referred to as a blessing. Each will end up having a set of words associated that when said cause certain effects?”
Rocket thought this sounded like bullshit but he still asked “Effects?”
Opaline took a moment to compose herself before continuing “We don’t know the words that are special till we say them, one twin will spit fortune the other food usually in the form of amphibians oddly enough”
Opaline looked over at Rocket, getting the immediate sense that he was seeing is believing type “La Peine” a medium sized moonstone tumbled from out her lips and onto the floor before Rocket.
“So you spit fortune then?” The head bobbed up and down quickly “I need time to think that over, get in the ship” Opaline complied she didn’t really have a choice otherwise.
A few hours after Rocket asked for more of her story, and why Contraxia wanted her back so badly it wasn’t a hard leap in logic they wanted their literal money maker back. Rocket’s face pinched into a deep scowl when he listened as Opaline described how much some of the glittering treasures hurt to pass, her voice was so soft after years of having her vocal cords ripped by sharp gems, and he audibly snarled when the implications of wanting to see how far Opalines biology could be shared to have the effects replicated.
Rocket hated losing out on the credits but even a piece of shit like himself couldn’t hand over a treasure like Opaline to those assholes.
The two fell into a comfortable rhythm of him picking up a few jobs here and there while Opaline worked her skills keeping the living spaces usable as well  as making sure he ate. The problem was the amount of interested parties in Opaline's existence, she was well known as the galaxy's golden goose as the Terrans would say. Rocket neverminded the conflict but he could see as it began to wear on Opaline, guilt illuminating in those glittering eyes more each day. Rocket couldn’t explain the warm feelings that stirred within his gut when she looked at him, sometimes he found himself rambling to her just to hear her delicate laugh fill the dark corners of the ship.
It made complete sense to Rocket that they both kissed after sharing a bottle of Liquid Gold as they were forced to wait out an ion field storm before they could safely fly again. Rocket was curious to see how many jewels he could find exploring Opaline's body.
Eyes flushed so bright they glittered like twin Topazes.
Skin flushed pale pink like Calcite.
Lips that he kissed Ruby.
And a cunt flushed as brightly as Coral.
The greatest feeling of fortune was felt in her arms afterward as Rocket fell into a restful sleep but to his surprise when he awoke Opaline was nowhere to be found neither was his escape pod. Livid he pulled on his pants moving towards the Captains seat to start tracking her down when he saw a note.
Dear Rocket,
I can’t bear the thought of you getting hurt because of me. I’m too well known and they are never going to stop. It’s selfish and I’m so sorry that this is going to destroy you but please don’t close yourself off to the next person they might be everything I can’t be. I hope the gift I left you helps to soothe the wound a bit though I know that it won’t I wanted to try.
I care about you Rocket, you make me rethink the concept of my line ending with me but I know that’s what I need.
Goodbye <3 Opaline
Under the note was a pile that amounted to one hundred credits and one large azure blue stone that was the size of his fist and it looked like she had captured the sky for him; he wondered what word she used.
He wondered how she could be so stupid to think that he wouldn’t look for her.
Her mistake.

X-men Red Finale!
Tumblr media
Brand's plan is revealed! Her goal is to become THE intergalactic defense and representative for Sol, superseding SHIELD'S authority, Krakoa, and expanding S.W.O.R.D's power.
Tumblr media
So far, Brand has:
Joined Krakoa and pitched SWORD as a mutant space agency, granting her power and influence, and a station on Mars.
Unbeknownst to Krakoa, at the very beginning she returned Vulcan who she brainwashed by resetting his psyche to his Mad King persona, and made him her personal muscle.
She planned to reignite a 4-way war to weaken the Shiar, Kree, Skrull, and Krakoa respective nations to singlehandedly forge peace talks, securing SWORD as Sol's global defense and influencing the Galactic Council.
She planned on either controlling the Arakkii population by force or removing them to Amenth to secure her diplomatic planet instead of a single station on Mars.
What she didn't predict?
Tumblr media
Storm, the Regent of Mars and Voice of Sol on the galactic council, embraced the Arakkii and formed a Brotherhood to defend the mutant society's political, social, and economic interests instead of imposing her will; which opposed Brand's aspirations for controlling the population as a resource and colonial rule via Storm's regency.
Storm's Brotherhood, dispatched Brand's X-men and her grip on Mars; Sunspot and Magneto even joined the Great Ring and their cause. Sunspot plotted in the shadows with the Night Seats and Magneto removed Tarn who was a reminder of Amenth's violent terror as overlords of the Arakkii. Storm then willingly gave her regency over to Arakko.
Tumblr media
The war with the Eternals strengthened the bond between Arakkii and Krakoans, and solidified an age of coalition instead of hierarchy; Storm's mutant circuit with Magneto to boost his life force via elemental power acted as the catalyst for this new age for Arakko. An age of collaboration for one another to live and thrive as one. An ideal that Magneto died for.
Tumblr media
Cable recruited mutant agents of Brand's S.W.O.R.D, who suspected she had larger sinister plans. Upon Brand's unexpected death in the war with the Eternals, they discovered her goals and plans.
Upon setting Vulcan loose on Xandra to cause the galactic War, Sunspot intercepts. Vulcan, (and Brand) realizing he was played, reaches the base of the Brotherhood, Magneto's palace...where Storm is waiting:
Tumblr media
Conclusion:
Vulcan, eager to show off his power, is frustrated Storm isn't manipulating the elements to showcase her power like him. Storm is pretty badass in this fight because (1) she doesn't move from where she's standing and delivers my favorite line, "Surviving, its what I've done since the day I was born," and (2) she lets him chat about his kingship and power, trying to goad her into unleashing her restraint.
Tumblr media
Yet, Storm implemented her ideology instead of defeating in grand gestures; She lets Vulcan burn everything to make him think he has the advantage and they douse him with what appears to be a mysterium-infused rainstorm supplied by the Great Ring's mutant-made underground chambers of ocean lined with mysterium. My only real criticism is having Storm play defense before incapacitating Vulcan and that the mutant circuit not being as expressive as Storm and Magneto's, it seemed less creative visually and thematically, but clever nonetheless.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arakko and Krakoa are finely one in mind and spirit thanks to Storm's leadership and values. Hierarchy, especially through dominance, is discarded. Leadership is forged through Brotherhood and coalition. To have a voice in the Broken Land you must become of the Broken Land.
Tumblr media
Brand is now exposed and the Fisher King of the Night Seats ambushes her, and we're left with a cliff hangar for what has become of her. The Wiz Kid is now in control of SWORD.

Birdkook
Tumblr media
*Inspiration from Tik Tok an animation called Kree
Sorry I’ve been MIA, I’m working on a big project that will be out soon!!
I switched the basket from one wrist to the other, using my dominant hand to rest on the fallen tree, helping to ease myself over it onto the other side. That's when I heard the snapping of the branch. I was particularly scared, but more curious what had made the noise, I walked in the direction of the sound. Off in the distance I saw a wing of what looked like a large bird, maybe a hawk or a raven, if I was lucky it might even be an owl. However, as I got closer I realized that the wing was far too large to be a bird, but I still continued towards it, I had to see what it was. As I round the base of the tree a few feet away I feel terror set in. The creature had the face and torso of a human, but his legs were covered in feathers with sharp talons at the end of his toes. I take a step back and it's eyes snap towards me, causing me to freeze. It was eying me up, the same way I was looking at him.
I heard of stories like these, my aunt used to tell me them when I was young. She said that they were creatures of Zeus, sent to punish those who were disobedient. They were faster than the wind, known to fly at incredible speeds and torment their victims. I thought it was just a folk tale told to scare kids into behaving or the harpies would come to get you. His hands were reaching towards one of his ankles, and that's where I noticed a deep cut. I look down at my basket to see I only had a handkerchief on me that I planned on covering the mushrooms with. I pull it out and inspect it, it was fairly clean, and most likely could at least put pressure on the bleeding. I took a deep breath, I knew it was probably stupid, but I couldn't just keep walking leaving it there like that. I took a step towards it, and it straightened it's back, watching me like an animal who would run a the first sign of threat.
I set the basket down next to my feet before kneeling down in front of it. Nervously I move closer on my knees and his pupils widen. He was staring at me, looking confused at first as if it had never seen a human before. He lifts his hand and his long talon comes up towards my face and I closed my eyes, cold sweat running down my back. But he took my chin between his fingers and I opened my eyes to see how intense and focused and I felt my face flush slightly. I had never seen such eyes before, Dark brown in the center, faded golden towards the edge. We sat staring at each other, I was afraid that if I moved to quickly he might run or even worse accidently hurt me. "Hello, my name is Y/n," I introduced myself even though I wasn't sure he understood my language, but he made a noise of a bird who is purring. I use my finger to point to myself and his eyes followed my finger "Y/n," I said again.
"I want to help," I said pointing towards his wound and then towards my handkerchief in my hand. I then moved towards his leg and instinctively he reeled away, but I didn't stop, sliding the fabric under his ankle and then wrapping it around a few times before tying it. "That should help stop the bleeding," I explained before looking back at him, he had seemed to calm down quite a bit, looking more relaxed, which helped me to relax. I stood up and he watched me intently "I have to find mushrooms, so if you'll excuse me," I said brushing the dirt and leaves off my skirt before picking up my basket. I nodded a goodbye to him before turning on my heels and that's when I heard him shifting behind me and when I looked over my shoulder he was now standing and towered over me at at least six feet and five inches.
That alone was enough to make me nervous, but I tried to hide it as I turn to face the direction I was walking. I started and I could feel he was following in my footsteps, I could feel my body trembling, worried that at any moment he might grab me with those sharp claws. "You don't have to escort me," I called over my shoulder and I was surprised to hear his voice, my head snapping to look at him. He mindlessly made noise, much like babies babbling, and followed it up with a laugh, almost as if he was mocking the way I spoke. It made me curious to see if I could get him to saw real words. I stopped and turned towards him "Y/n," I said pointing towards my chest, and then I directed my forefinger towards his chest "Koo," he replied and pointed towards his chest "Koo," he repeated. I couldn't help but smile at him "Koo," I copied and suddenly his ears and cheeks flushed. He turned his head to the side almost as if he was trying to avoid making eye contact.
He suddenly picked up something and held it out in front of me looking at me expectantly "Leaf," I told him and then he picked up another one with a different shape and color "Leaf," I replied and then he picked up a different one causing me to giggle. I pointed to the leaves on the trees "Those are all leaves," I informed him. I started walking through the forest again, my eyes sweeping the floor looking for mushrooms. Every so often Koo would come up to me holding something he had found and I would tell him what it was called. I squealed excited when I finally found what I was looking for and Koo was by my side almost as if I had concerned him. "Sorry, I was looking for these," I said pointing to the mushroom "Mushroom," I said while picking them up and delicately putting them in my basket.
The next thing I knew he had rushed off somewhere, I sighed continuing my journey in hopes to find a few more before going home. It was a couple minutes before Koo landed right in front of me, getting me to squeal and jump backwards. Then I noticed he had an armful of mushrooms "Holy," I whispered taking a step closer, it would've taken days for me to find that many. He uses his free arm to pull out my basket and then he put all the mushrooms he found into it. "For me? You didn't have to," I said looking at my over flowing basket, I then looked up at him and he was looking at me intently. He brings his head down, and I cringe, one eye closing, unsure of what he was going to do, but he just rubs his forehead against the top of my head. My cheeks flush and he pulled back looking chuffed with himself. "Well I should head back before it gets dark," I told him stepping back to walk down the path towards the town.
My heart was thumping against my chest as I walked away from him, but I didn't get far before he was walking beside me. Neither of us said anything, just walking side by side through the forest. We fell into a comfortable silene, but my heart was banging against my chest. It was hard for me to decipher if I was scared or something else. He was nothing like the horrifying creatures stories make them out to be, in a way he was sweet. It was dark when we got to the edge of the woods, you could see the burning of lanterns and candles far through the woods where the town sat. I thought the closer we got the more hesitant he would be to follow me, but I got the feeling he would follow me anywhere. I stopped so he was still hidden behind a few trees "You can't come with me," I informed him, but he didn't seem to understand.
I grabbed his arm and turned him to face the woods, "Go," I said pointing into the forest and he tilts his head to the side. "You can't come to town with me, so go, shoo," I said waving him off like you do to birds in the street and he took a hesitant step forward towards the woods but his eyes watched me confused and slightly hurt. My chest ached at the expression "I don't want people to do anything to you" I explained wanting him to know it had nothing to do with him or me not wanting to be around him. "Go on," I told him refusing to head into town if he was still standing there, he sighed before jumping and flapping his wings. The wind from his flapping causing my hair and skirt to push back and then he flew above the branches and trees, his dark feathers making it difficult for you to spot him.
Once I was sure he was gone I walked back towards the town, people were closing up their shops or heading to the local bar, making the streets quite flooded with people. I weaved my way through the crowds, ignoring the cat calls of drunken men, dodging their reaching hands. It wasn't long before I made it back to my aunts house, opening the door and letting myself inside "You better have found the motherlode for being gone so long," she scolded from the other room. I set my basket on the table looking at all the mushrooms "You'd be surprised," I replied untying my shoes and taking off my shawl. She gasped when she entered the room "How on earth," she said looking at my basket "Lucky day," I replied hanging everything up.
"Let's get them clean for the store tomorrow," she said before dumping them into the sink to start the washing process. She was rinsing them and I was drying them before putting them in their cartridges. I wasn't entirely close to my aunt, we were low contact when was younger, and when my mom died she only allowed me to move in if I could earn my keep. Luckily I was fond of foraging, so I managed to learn and gather different vegetables and herbs from the local woods. We would clean them and then she would sell them to the local market she worked at. We were more like roommates than family, but I didn't mind. It's thanks to her I got to see my twentieth birthday. People whispered about us, how we were going to grow up to be two old hags, neither of us having any interest in men. Me because I was young and the men here were pigs, my aunt lost the woman who was the love of her life when she was my age and swore off love.
People around here didn't take kindly to people who were different than the church. Although I didn't have the same feelings as my aunt, I did believe she deserved to be happy and love who she loved. I wasn't judgmental like the rest of town, and maybe that's why I've gotten to stay with her for so long. The next morning I went to the market with my aunt, making sure she safely got to work before doing a few odd jobs for the other stalls around, earning a few pieces of gold before going home. I cleaned the house before settling in front of the fireplace where I knitted. Usually that was enough to keep my occupied but I couldn't stop thinking about the creature I saw in the forest. I replay our interaction in my head, even blush at a few of them. My aunt got home at her usual time and started making potato soup.
"Aunty, if you happen to run into a harpies in the forest, what should you do?" I asked and she laughed before humoring me "Child you better run, their talons could cut you open like an eagle to a fish," she said. I chewed on my lip, debating to tell her what had happened in the forest the other day, but she would probably tell me I'm crazy and just throw me onto the streets. I sighed and decided to let it go. Trying to convince myself over the next month that it was nothing more than my wild imagination getting the better of me. I early forgotten the incident when it was time again to head back into the forest. I went deeper this time, looking for the large trees that grew the more musty mushrooms. I spotted one way high up, but with all the branches I assumed I could manage to get up there safely to retrieve it. I rolled up my sleeves and started up the tree until I was face to face with the fungi.
I wrapped my hands around it and gave it a tug, but it was like someone had nailed it into the tree. I pulled harder and harder, twisting it side to side to try and make it come loose. Then it broke and both myself and the mushroom started falling towards the ground. I could see in the peripherals the branches flying by as gravity pulled me down, I was lucky none of them hit me. I closed my eyes, waiting for everything to end, when I felt strong arms wrap around me, breaking my fall. In fact I felt like I was falling in reverse, when I opened my eyes I could see Koo and nearly screamed at the sight of him. He gently sat me back down on the branch I had fallen from before perching next to me. His large wings covering the two of us. I was still feeling the rush of adrenaline and lifted my hands to see how badly they were shaking. "What's wrong? You're acting all skittish," he said from beside me and I looked at him bewildered.
He had said two sentences completely coherently and I let my hands drop in my lap bewildered. "Don't worry, I've fallen out of many trees, nothing to be embarrassed about," he said giving me a slight smile before looking out at the forest, rubbing his hair "By the way you look unbelievably beautiful tonight." I flush and his hand comes to the back of my head as if to pat me "You're practically glowing... Maybe it's the lighting," he said looking up through the leaves. A month ago he couldn't even understand a word I said, but now he was speaking full sentences and flirting? "Are you hurt?" he asked leaning his head closer to mine to get a better look "N-no I'm just... in shock. One second I'm falling out of a tree, the next you're talking," I explained while stuttering. He hummed "I suppose that is quite a shock, me speaking I mean, but despite how I look I don't have a bird brain," he said. He even jokes.
"How did you... learn?" I asked and he beamed, pleased with himself "Well, some beautiful woman started teaching me basic words, but I spend the months hiding out in the village at night, listening to conversations. I even asked one of my friends he help me learn a bit," he admitted to me. "Why did you... learn?" I asked and he tilted his head to the side "I wanted to be able to speak to your in your tongue, I thought it'd make you happy," he replied as if it was obvious. "Well, I am pleased to talk to you, of course. And I guess I should thank you for saving my life," I replied and he smiled "You saved mine, I saved yours. I guess we are even now," he said before standing up and part of me was worried he was just going to fly off as if nothing ever happened. "Why do you come to the forest for mushrooms?" he asked, "Uh well, my aunt and I sell them to make money, which we use to pay for the house we live in," I explained.
"You have to pay to live in your own house?" he asked and I nodded "For us we just build our nest somewhere and that's the end of it," he said. "Yeah, well humans are more complicated," I told him before slowly climbing down the branches of the tree, "Want me to help you down?" he asked from above "No thank you, I prefer my feet on something solid," I answered. As I was going down, I heard the sound of his winds flapping and next thing I knew he was down on the ground waiting for me. Once I got to the ground, I searched for my mushroom before putting it into my basket "How many of those do you usually get?" he asked following me as I walked towards other trees "Well considering how far up they are, and that I have to climb up and back down, I usually get three or four on a good day," I answered.
"Can I ask you something?" I questioned and he smiled nodding "Anything," he said eagerly, "In my village they have stories of your kind. The one I always heard was about the stormy wind that would carry you away if you were bad. They make you out to be something to be afraid of, but you... You're nothing like those stories," I said and although there really wasn't a question in there, he seemed to follow along to my line of questioning. "There is truth to those stories, generations ago harpies were a lot more volatile but over the years we have mellowed out. We stay hidden from the world for the most part, and only attack when threatened," he explained. "You didn't feel threatened by me?" I asked and he broke into a wry smile "Not unless I was a mushroom."
"You know if we were flying it'd be easier to spot those mushrooms you're looking for," he said locking his hands behind his head and I rolled my eyes "I prefer my feet on the ground thank you very much," I replied. "Suit yourself," he said before hopping up and flying towards the tops of trees "They're just loaded up here," he called down. I watched as he hopped from branches of one tree to branches of another, not worried if he couldn't balance, his talons digging into the wood to steady him. I was too busy watching him to even realize where I was going, or anything around for that matter. Things only changed when he frozen and slowly moving closer to the trunk of the tree. I looked around and that's when I noticed a group of men, they must've been out hunting. I tried paying as little attention to them as possible, giving them a curt nod, "What's a lovely lady doing out here?" the youngest of the bunch slowed down as they walked by "Mushrooms," I replied motioning to my basket.
"You guys go on ahead- I'm going to talk with the little lady," he called to his friends before stepping towards me "I really am fine on my own here," I told him kindly, not wanting to anger him. "No one even knows we're out here," he said with a sleezy smirk "My aunt will worry," I said taking a step back in the direction of the village, but he grabbed my wrist keeping me from walking "You know it's rude to leave in the middle of a conversation," he said but I ripped my wrist out of his grasp "You wouldn't want to get lost from your friends," I replied. He smirked "I like girls like you," he said moving in front of me "The hard to get type," he added and I sighed "And I hate men like you, who can't take a hint," I replied. I regret those words as soon as they pass my lips, his eyebrow twitching "Women are getting so bold these days," he said taking a menacing step towards me.
Something fell out of the trees behind me, but I was worried about taking my eyes off the man in front of me. His eyes widened in fear and he looked as pale as a ghost, I didn't need to look over my shoulder to know what he had seen. "M-monster," the man stuttered, he was trying to get his bow from his back, but he was shaking too bad that it fell between the two of us. "You dropped something," I said and he rushed to pick it up before running off in the direction of his buddies, screaming something along the lines of monster. "I could've handled him," I said before turning around to face Koo, and looked a little taken back "Are you mad at me?" he asked and I sighed at myself "No, the situation," I explained.
"Thank you, he was bothering me," I told him sheepishly, "I'm just worried now that they know you're out there... What if he comes after you?" I asked and he placed his hand on top of my head giving me a reassuring smile "I'm not too worried," he said before letting his hand fall down. "But if something happened to you because of me..." He smirked leaning in "Almost sounds like you care about me," he said, and I shove his cheek away "I just don't think you are monster like is all," I replied fixing the basket on my wrist. "Oh yes," he said before flying back up into the tree and then coming down again holding mushrooms in his hands. I accept them and place them into my basket "You don't have to find those for me," I told him, "But I like helping you," he replied confused, "Why?" I asked.
"I think you're beautiful, and I want you to like me," he said bluntly that made my cheeks burn up and I looked over at him. He wasn't half bad looking, in all honesty he was better looking than most the men in town. He had a nice face, large eyes and a cute mole under his bottom lip and a scar on his cheek. He also quite well built, broad shoulders, firm chest, his arms bulging  every time he moved them. He turned his head to look at me and his eyes bore into mine, they were so entrancing. "Are you alright?" he asked and I cleared my throat "Yes. Just appreciating your beauty," I replied looking away from him as heat traveled up my neck "Beauty? Me?" he asked and I nodded my head "I've never seen anything like you before," I explained, which is obviously why I find him so enticing.
"I can show you something you've never seen before," he said reaching out towards me and I reeled back a bit causing his hand to fall to his side "What exactly?" I asked and his lip jutted out a bit at my rejection. "The sunset," he replied and I sighed "I've seen the sunset," I informed him with a slight giggle "Not from the sky," he pointed out. I felt like it would terrify me to be so high off the ground, but his face made my heart ache "I'll watch the sunset with you, if we find ten of these mushrooms today," I told him pointing at the ones I wanted to collect today. "Is that a promise?" he asked and I nodded holding out my pinky to him and he looked at my hand and me confused "You loop your pinky through mine, and it means I promise," I explained taking his hand and looping his through mine. He seemed just excited enough to have my hand in his own "Only ten?" he asked and I nodded.
He was off once again back up into the trees and I continued walking through the forest. I picked a few more herbs while on the search but it was getting closer and closer time for me to get home. Suddenly he came down from the branches and in his arms he had exactly ten of the mushrooms I had requested. I sighed "A deals a deal," I whispered under my breath "We've got to hurry," he said dumping them into my basket. He then stood next to me, so close our chests were basically pressed against one another. His arms came around my waist, hands securing on my lower back. I couldn't help but fall into him, my hands finding his chest "Ready?" he questioned with a smirk, "As I'll ever be," I replied with burning cheeks, staring at his chest. His wings spread out and the next thing I knew he was lifting me in the air, I gasped, wrapping my arms around his neck. My eyes snapped close, and I held onto him for dear life, I could feel the the wing coming from his wings, the straining in is back.
I opened one eye to see the tops of trees, the entire forest beneath the two of us. I closed them once again hiding my face in the crook of his neck and suddenly I felt us twirl around getting me to squeal and hold on tighter, and Koo started laughing. His arms were securely around me, it never felt like he was going to drop me, but being so high up in the sky was terrifying. "You might want to open your eyes," he whispered over the wind and despite how tight my stomach ached I forced myself to open one eye and look over my shoulder. Both eyes fluttered open and I turned more to see the view before me, he was right, this was nothing like I've ever seen before. I could see the sun setting behind the ocean, over the village, over the mountain the forest, red, orange, yellow colors filling the sky, giving everything a glow to it.
My lips break out into a bright smile as I take in the view, if ever I could save a moment in time and paint it, that would be it. "Wow," I whispered and then we started to descend towards the edge of the forest near town. I did everything I could to watch a little bit longer, eventually we were back on the ground, but my eyes were still towards the sky and my head in the clouds. "Wow," I whispered once again as I brought my gaze back down and they landed on Koo and he had this smile on his lips and his gaze there was something in his eyes that made me blush. I pulled out of his arms "Thank you... Koo," I said turning my back towards him, "When can I see you again?" he asked and I flushed harder "I'm sure I won't be back until next month... But it's hard for me to get out when it gets colder," I explained.
"So I'll come see you," he said running his fingers down my arm until he gripped my hand "I promise not to cause any trouble," he added and it made it difficult for me to decline. "Once the first snow falls, and only after dark," I muttered feeling absolutely stupid for even saying something as silly as that, "You mean it?" he questioned and I almost want to take it back. He holds up his pinky towards me and I couldn't help but lace mine through his "I promise," I whispered. He kissed the back of my hand "Until we meet again," He said before releasing his my hand and flying off into the night sky. I shook my head before heading back into the village, everyone was getting done with their day jobs once again, but I didn't dilly dally, heading home straight away.
"Another great haul!" I called heading straight to the sink dumping the mushrooms inside and turning on the water. I then remove my shawl and shoes, putting them away by the door, "I've never seen so many, child just what are you doing in those woods?" she asked standing over the sink. "You wouldn't believe me if I told you," I teased, she just laughed at me before starting to clean off mushrooms and I joined her. "So dear, I've been meaning to talk about this but didn't know how to bring it up," she started and the unease in her voice made me nervous "You are of that age... Finding a man, getting married," she muttered clearly uncomfortable. I flushed at her words "D-don't worry about that," I told her and she eyed me "Are you not interested in men?" she asked and I shook my head side to side "I am." she sighed "Then I can't let you stay with me forever, or people will start to say I rubbed off on you," she replied.
This was her weird way of caring, she didn't want me to go through all the things she did, or her lover, but I just didn't feel ready for that kind of thing and the men here, were not exactly my type either. "There's a young man I could introduce you to, I've already talked you up to him, so why not a date?" she said more than questioned so I felt I could only nod my head along. The rest of the night was silent, and I went to bed quite early, without even knitting anything. The next morning I accompanied my aunt to work and she introduced me to the young man he worked with. He wasn't bad looking, and at least he had a bit of manners compared to the boy I met in the woods the other day. He went as far as to ask me out later in the week and with my aunts urging I agreed to go out with him.
I spent the week worrying about what to wear, and what I was even supposed to talk about with him. Out of nervousness, I gave him a gift when he came to pick me up, a handknitted hat. He appreciated it and took me out to one of the local food stalls and bought me a skewer and even a bunch of flowers. However, there was unease with him, I found it hard to talk honestly with him, it was so much easier with Koo, everything with him just felt easy. When he dropped me off that night he left me with a kiss on my cheek, expectations with seeing me again. I waved him off before going inside, letting my shoulders drop finally, letting air out of my lips. I quickly went to the bathroom to take a bath and I started to feel woozy. I didn't even want to eat, climbing into my bed after my bath. I was bed ridden for the next few week, apparently there was a bug going around the village and it wasn't looking good for those who caught it. Even my aunt begun to worry about me.
Winter set in and it only seemed to make my road to recovery all that much longer. I could hardly get myself to the bathroom and back without becoming extremely tired, it's hard to pull around a heavy blanket. There was an insistent tapping on the window and I thought it might be a twig but even with the change of wind it still tapped. Finally I forced myself out of bed and walked over to the window and opened it, a frosty breeze sweeping inside causing my to pull the cover tighter. That's when his golden brown eyes met mine, and the next thing I knew a large set of wings were in my bedroom. "You never came so I got worried, but I waited until snow fell to come," Koo explained, shutting the window so the cold air was kept out, but his eyes never left me, looking me over "What's wrong?" he asked reaching out, pressing his fingers against my forehead. They were cold, and felt great against my burning skin, I nuzzled further into his hand, his palm against my forehead.
My legs were shaking and I felt like they would give away if I continued to stand "I suppose I did say that," I replied weakly while walking towards my bed. I climbed back into bed and let my body collapse against my pillow, "Are you sick?" he asked coming up to the side of my bed. I nodded my head "For about a month now," I answered weakly, "I wish I'd known... It can be lonely when you are sick," he said laying down on my bed next to me, his face inches from mine. "You'll get sick," I said rolling over to face the other way, my heart racing. "Harpies don't get the same sicknesses as humans, I'm sure it'll be fine," he said shifting closer, either way neither of us moved and eventually I had fallen asleep, too exhausted by fighting off disease. I only woke when I started shivering, I was sweating but still way too cold, I sat up pressing a hand to my head to see I still had a fever. That's when I noticed Koo was still laying in my bed, but he was also fast asleep beside me.
I reach out to touch his cheek and he was now radiating warmth. I moved closer to him throwing the covers over him and I could feel his body heat warming up the covers. I laid back down, now facing him, our faces only and inch or two apart. His arms slipped around me, pulling me to his chest, our skin pressing against one another. My hands instinctively came up to his chest to push him away, but it felt so comforting, and he was warm. "Should I let go?" he questioned drowsily and I felt heat climb my neck "No..." I curled into his body. "Tell me," he whispered into the top of my head "Do you get butterflies in your stomach when you see me?" he asked and as soon as he said it I felt my entire body flush "Y-you don't ask someone that," I stuttered embarrassed. "That's what I hear those human boys say to women all the time?" he replied and I sighed before wrapping my arms around him "I like you... Just as you are," I whispered.
His steady breathing, and the metronome of his heart were enough to lull me back to sleep. I only woke up when there was a knock on my door "I'm off to work," my aunt called through the door and I sat up, an arm falling onto my lap "Alright," I replied with my scratchy voice. I heard her footsteps recede and the front door close before squealing pushing Koo out of my bed and onto the floor. He didn't wake with a start, he sat up rather slowly rubbing the back of his head "Why'd you do that?" he asked lazily blinking his eyes open "You weren't supposed to spend the night," I said pulling my covers up to hide my night gown. Now that I was a bit more well rested I realized how embarrassing my actions had been, I should've sent him home right away "But I want to spend every moment with you," he answered looking at me.
His honest gaze made me shy away "You should go," I muttered half heartedly, but instead of listening to me, he laid back down on my floor "And risk everyone seeing me? You know I can't," he replied and even though he sounded sorry, when I looked over the side of my bed he had a large smirk on his lips. This was all intentional, "Well... if you're going to stay, make yourself useful and get me some water," I told him pointing towards the door. He pulled his wings as close as he could to his body before walking through the house, I could hear him rummaging through everything before finally coming back with a bowl filled with water. I took it from him and greedily drank the water and every move he watched me intently, "Can't you look at something else?" I asked blushing and he shook his head no.
"Why don't you read something," I said pointing to one of the books on my shelf, "I can't read," he replied and I almost apologized but stopped myself "Well, lets teach you then. It's not like I can do much else," I said setting the bowl down. He retrieved the book and gave it to me and I had him sit in the bed beside me. I opened it to the first page and explained to him what the letters were and the sounds they made. I taught him the same way I taught children at the church, but unlike them he was more than willing to learn and he did it quite quickly. By nightfall he was sounding out words himself, he was doing it slowly, but it still was a lot faster than the children. Eventually with enough pleading I begun to read the short story to him, he was dying to know how it ended but didn't want to take all night. I cut him a deal that when it was over he had to leave and he accepted those conditions.
When I finished the story, I closed the book, feeling satisfied. I turned to look at him and he was looking at me with this soft admiration, I couldn't help but burn up "What?" I asked and the next thing I knew he was rubbing his forehead against mine, a gentle laugh leaving his lips "You continue to amaze me every day," he answered before pulling his head back. I reached up to my chest as if I cold slow my heart by physically grabbing it, but there was no use, every time he looked at me like that it pounds. "A promise is a promise," he sighed before getting up and heading towards the window "But don't keep me waiting too long," he whispered before climbing out and shutting it behind himself. That was the last time I saw him that winter, and I was beginning to wonder if it was all just a fever dream, as if I made it up.
When spring came around I was fully healthy, back on my feet again, and I didn't plan on slowing down anytime soon. To make up for being so sick I worked at the market for my Aunt, giving her some free time, and when I wasn't doing that, I was tutoring at the church or doing odd jobs in the market, anything to make myself useful. It was tiring, but it felt so much better than being laid up in bed. The boy from the market who I went on a date with is always trying to talk to me and I will say I am warming up to him a little bit more. Things started to feel normal again, but there was something in my life that was missing. While walking through the forest I was always looking towards the tops of trees for any kind of wings.
I heard a flapping and twirled on my heels to face behind me only to be met by a chest. The wings were a whitish grey and when I slowly raised my gaze I was met with bright blue eyes. I swallowed thickly before taking a step back, the creature was gazing at me intensely, its arms crossed over his chest. Even though I didn't want to be prejudice, my heart was racing, and my feet were itching to run. I was scared. This one was far taller than Koo and not once had it's gaze shown any kind of expression, I couldn't tell what it was thinking. It took a step towards me and instinctively I stepped back, only I stepped on the back of my dress and it caused me to go falling backwards onto the ground. The creature leaned over me "You're so tiny," it said and it caught me off guard, I hadn't expected it to know my language.
"I'm Y/n," I said "and I've always been small even for humans," I added before sitting up and even though I was still nervous, it was now easier for me to fake it. It chuckled and I relaxed even more "Namjoon," he said holding his hand out to me and I took it allowing him to pull me to my feet. "Sorry if I scared you, I believe you're the one Jungkook talks about," he explained. Jungkook. That must be who Koo is. "Not to be entirely rude, but I was worried all of this was a fever dream," I admitted and he just chuckled again "We tend to keep away from humans, our youngest never learned that though." I smiled sadly "He came once... But I haven't seen him since," I explained.
"He used to visit the village a lot, but he's been a little down recently." My heart ached at his words, I wanted to see him and it must have been evident on my face "I could bring you to him," he offered. He jumped and his wings started flapping. He held out his hand to me and even though the thought of flying seemed terrifying, the thought of never seeing Koo again was worse. I took his hand and the next thing I knew the talons on his feet looped around my arms like a ring and he was lifting me off the ground. I squeeze my eyes close, terrified to look down. We were in the air for a good fifteen minutes, and my armpits were sore, but eventually my feet were back on the ground. I fall dramatically to my knees "I will never get used to that," I muttered before opening my eyes.
Before me was a giant tree trunk and as I looked up towards the branches I was a large house looking building nestled into the leaves. "This is his home. I'll get him for you," he said before flying up there, landing inside before disappearing inside. A few moments later, I watch as Namjoon left flying off somewhere, Jungkook appearing in the doorway of the building. His eyes scanned the area and when they landed on me, he flew down to sit beside me, but he wasn't his usual bubbly self. He sat beside me cross legged and refused to look at me. "What are you doing here?" he asked and I fix my skirt "I came to find you," I answered but it did nothing to lift his mood "You got better... then spent your time with him," He said and the only thing I could think was that he was talking about the boy at the market "I started working," I corrected him.
"I'm a monster, you know." I felt defensive when he said that for some reason "Who told you that?" I asked and he looked at his hands "Look at me..." his talons popped out of his fingers, stretching out his wings behind him. I move in front of him "Give me your hand," I demand holding out my hand "Why?" he asked finally looking at me. "Just let me see it," I said giving him a reassuring smile, and he relents, setting his larger hand in mine, talons towards me, palms face up. "Hmm," I said looking over the lines in his palm, they didn't look all that different from my own "A long life line," I said running my finger over an indent in his palm. My aunt used to read my palm to me and when I got older she explained what the lines meant. It was something I did for fun with the kids at the church.
I run my finger over another one "Oh and.. This one means your shy." I look up at him and his cheeks were blushing as soon as our eyes met, and he looked back down at his palm. I look back down at his hand "hmm," I said furrowing my eyebrows, bringing a hand up to my chin quizzically, humming along "Well... that's funny," I said finally "What!" he asked bright eyed and bushy tailed "I don't see any." I held onto his hand, "Any what?" he asked anxiously and I smiled looking at him "Monster lines." I curled his fingers into his palm, now that his talons were gone "Not a single one." He broke into a smile before leaning in to press his forehead to mine, nuzzling, a purring sound leaving his throat.
"I'm looking for flowers, I promised the girls at the church I'd make them for their spring dance," I said blushing as I pull away from him, "I know a place," he said and before I could even do anything he was tackling me, only I never hit the ground. With his arms securely around my waist and back we were in the air. Flying with him was less frightening than with the other harpy, perhaps it's due to the way he carries me, that his strong arms held me so tightly against his firm body. The trees start to become more sparce and suddenly there was a meadow full of flowers. It was gorgeous and when we landed I was overwhelmed with the floral scent. I sat down and started picking the flowers and slowly started making the flower crown. Once it was finished I set it on top of Koo's head, he looked adorable and my cheeks flushed and I quickly went on making the next one.
Neither of us spoke, enjoying the silence, listening to the wind blow over the flowers. I could live in this field. I finished the second one and placed it on my head before smiling at Jungkook and he instantly became flustered his pupils dilating as if I was the prettiest girl he had ever seen. He took my wrist between his hands "I love you." my heart skipped a beat and my entire body became warm "Obviously... you don't know me." I removed my eyes from his sincere gaze, only to look back at him when my palm is pressed against his cheek. He had his eyes closed and he was leaning into my hand "I love you so much." I gently remove my hand "Thank you..." his eyes pop open  "And I will take that as a feeling that you have of... comfortability with me." I bring my hand to my chest, rubbing my wrist where he had held me. "It's more than comfortability," he said with a chuckle and he moved in closer his arm coming around my waist, his forehead to the side of my head.
"I really love you." his voice dancing across my ear "okay..." I had never had a confession before, much less one so intense, so it made sense that my heart would race. It had nothing to do with the way I melt into his touch, or how his voice brings ease to my heart. I allowed him to remain in this position while I continued to make more flower crowns for the rest of the girls. It was strange to me that if any other man had been laying all over me I would be shoving them off, but it felt nice to be in his arms. I managed to make ten crowns before realizing the sun was going to set and I needed to get back. "Koo," I said brushing hair out of his face, he had fallen asleep, so I let his head rest on my lap, "I was having the best dream," he whispered wrapping his arms around my waist, nuzzling his face into my stomach.
I unravel his arms from me and push him off my lap before standing up "I need you to bring me home," I told him, I couldn't imaging how far from the village we were now. He stood up "You have to go so soon?" he asked softly looking a little sad, I nodded my head "My aunt would worry," I told him. He sighed but opened his arms and I walked towards him, wrapping my arms around his neck, and he wrapped his arms around my waist before flapping his wings. Seconds pass and we were back over the trees and I could see the sun setting. I would never get over that view, staring in amazement as we rushed through the wind. I noticed we were heading straight towards the village, and not the edge of the forest "Jungkook you can't," I whispered looking towards him, but he ignored my warning and displeasure.
I worried as we got to my house, but in the darkness of the streets you could barely make out his wings. If anything it looked like he was wearing heavy winter boots and pants, not too out of the ordinary. "Come see me again?" he asked twirling a piece of hair through his fingers, "I'll do my best," I replied looking up at him "But you really should go," I said pushing at is chest, but it was futile. He leaned in carefully, breathing and not breathing and hearts between between us and he's so close, he's so close I can't feel my legs anymore. I can't feel my fingers or the cold or the darkness of the night because all I feel is him, everywhere, filling everything. "Please." He swallowed "Don't get mad at me." And he kisses me. His lips are softer than anything I've ever known, soft like a first snowfall, biting into cotton candy, like melting nd floating and being weightless in water. It's sweet, it's so effortlessly sweet. I hear voices, and his lips are gone, when my eyes open I am alone.
"Y/n? What are you doing outside?" My aunt asked and I spun around to see her and the market boy, "I just got back, I made flower crowns for the girls musical," I said showing my basket full of flowers. "This young man offered to walk me since I got off later than usual. Says the streets are dangerous, but I suppose he wanted to see you," she teased causing the two of us to flush "Don't stay out too long," she called before going inside. "Thank you for looking out for her," I said bringing my fingers up to my lips, "It's not problem, and seeing you is a bonus," he replied. "I should be going in now," I told him stepping towards the front door "Of course, couldn't have you getting sick again," he said before catching my hand "I'll see you tomorrow, at the church," he said before kissing the back of my hand and then disappearing off into the night.
I went inside and sighed, these men were driving me absolutely crazy. I bring my hands to my hair and ruffle my own hair with groaning. "What's going on?" my aunt asked with a chuckle, as if my despair was hilarious to her, "I- I had my first kiss," I admitted bringing my hands to my lips again, "but it was not with who you think," I told her. She narrowed her eyes "You are seeing another?" she asked and I rubbed my arm "I met him first actually, but it's... complicated," I told her taking off my shoes. "Then forget about him, complicated love is too hard, stick with easy love," she said waving her hand as if to wave it all off. "But I feel so much more... with the complicated guy," I admitted feeling my cheeks heat up, "I can't believe you're getting so worked up over some guy." I pouted "He's different! He's honest a-and he's sweet-" "Please," she sighed crossing her arms over her chest "He would never do anything that upset me-" "He's a guy!"
"N-not... Exactly," I explained before placing my hands over my face "Technically he's a harpy," I finally admitted and I peeked between my fingers to see she had her hand to her forehead, a scowl on her face "Well then, he's a bird and you have no need to get involved with him," she said. I looked down before heading towards my room "I know," I admitted and that's why I tried so hard to push him away, but there was something about him that always pulled me back. I went to bed and the next morning I was determined to try to set my heart ablaze for the market boy. I chatted to him far more than before, giggled at his jokes, made sure to touch him, to see if it set my skin ablaze, if my heart ever skipped a beat, and it did, but not because of any feelings I had for him, but rather that we were strangers.
I saw him nearly daily and he was decent company, and my aunt says you can't really ask for much more from a companion. I could share the rest of my life with him, but would I ever be satisfied? I had yet to figure that out. I decided to take a stroll in the woods, give myself some space to think clearly. I probably walked a mile before sitting down beneath a willow tree and moments later Koo appeared with a bright smile. I ached for him. I stood to my feet and threw my arms around him, burying my face in his chest. His arms encase me and he rubs his cheek against the top of my head. "Did I live with you in a past life?" I asked, my voice cracking as the tears welled in my eyes "Was I your lifelong partner? Is that why the idea of losing you torments me so?" I knew that if I had become the market boy's wife, my trips to the forest would end and truly that's what makes it difficult for me to form romantic feelings for him.
"I've got you something," he said and I pulled back so that he could hold it out to me with both hands, it was a feather, darker and shinier than his but similar in size and shape. "What is it?" I asked lifting it up to inspect it "It's my shiniest feather... Nothing more," he said with red cheeks and then leaned his face level with mine "But if you accept it, and wear it in your hair." my cheeks were burning from how close he came "Then we'll be mated for life," he explained. I gasped placing it back in his hand "I can't-" I shook my head, and he looked down at it sadly "Is something wrong with it?" I couldn't bare to look him in the face "I- I can try to grow a nicer one..." I sighed "Nothing is wrong with it, Koo." I said. He squatted down and looked up at me "Then why won't you.. accept it?" he asked heartbroken.
"Koo, I'm human, I can't fly. I can't even enter your nest by myself." He perked up by my words "Y/n! I'll make you stairs to my next," he told me standing up "And I'll carry you anywhere you want to go," he promised holding his feather tightly between his hands. "What about when you head south every other year?" I asked quietly and he slumped looking down "I read it's a dangerous journey alone, much less bringing me. You wouldn't do that, would you?" I asked placing my hand onto his cheek. He frees one hand and wraps it around my arm, nodding into my palm "I'd have to go months without seeing you. Months in the winter, every other year." We were sitting side by side now, "I don't think I can do that Koo. Besides humans won't accept you either." I didn't think turning him down you hit me so hard.
My feet were dragging behind me as I headed home later, it was late at night when I got home, my aunt already asleep. I crawled into bed, hid under the covers and cried. I knew in my heart that meant I was never going to see him again. I tried to distract myself by doing extra jobs and spending time with the market boy, but my smile felt fake. Every day passed just like the one before it. Things with market boy were getting more serious, we even kissed each other at this point. I was changing out of my dress and letting my hair down after the date when I heard a tapping on the window. I assumed it was a twig hitting but I still walked over and pulled it open just in case. I walked back over to the mirror and finished pulling the rest of my braids out and that's when Koo climbed into my room.
I hadn't expected to see him, nor for him to look so happy. I walked over to my bed and sat down "What are you doing here?" I asked him, trying to hide how glad I was to see he was doing well. "I'm going to make you swoon baby," he sung causing my cheeks to burn, and he did a little spin before climbing onto the bed behind me "I wanna rock you with my righteous romance!" he put a necklace around my neck. I looked down to see it was a feather that was made out of metal "Where did you get this?" I asked. "I wanna set a mood darling," he sung wrapping his legs and arms around me, basically becoming my backpack, causing my skin to burn. "Do you like it?" he asked nuzzling into the crook of my neck. I lift it gently and smile "Yes, it's lovely," I replied
I turn my head and he lifted his to look at me. He's so beautiful, so perfect. I'm dizzy. My heart pounds. My pulse races. I tilt my face towards his, and he answers with an identical slow tilt towards mine. He closes his eyes. Our lips brush lightly. "If you ask me to kiss you I will," he whispered, his fingers stroke over my arms and I burst into flames. "Kiss me," I answered. And he does. Softly. slowly. The world turned around us, blurring and disappearing. I had to hold onto his wrists to keep from slipping away with it, gasping at the sensation that came roaring to life inside me. A match lit in a dark room, flaring with brilliant light. My lips parted with a gasp and Koo, with a growl of pure want, kissed me again, this time hard and deep. Teeth and lips bit and sucked when it turned shallow.
I break away before it gets too far, and his forehead is pressed against mine "Have I stolen your heart yet?" he asked with a smirk. I don't reply, just letting my eyes flutter shut. He stole my first kiss. Then my happiness. And finally, my life. "Hold me until I fall asleep," I told him, knowing that whatever I request he was going to be willing to do. We moved until we were laying on my bed, under the covers, my cheek pressed to his chest, his arm around my back. For the first night in a while I have a good night's sleep. When I woke up the next morning I was alone, but there was a lone black feather on the pillow beside me. I smile lifting it up delicately to inspect it. I hid it in a book before getting ready for the day.
Eventually, thing went back to normal I spent my days with the market boy and the nights in Koo's arms. I decided that if the rest of my life could be as simple as this, then it wouldn't be so bad. I got home one night later than my aunt and that's when she told me that the market boy had asked her permission to wed me and she gave it. It felt like my world was collapsing down "He doesn't need your permission," I snapped feeling hot tears "I don't even... I won't say I'm in love with him," I added feeling sick. She sighed "Get a grip girl. This is your best chance to live a good life," she replied "Unless your dying to become like me," she added. I wasn't ready for that. I slept horribly the that night and every second I spent with the market boy left me anxious, not to mention Koo was visiting me less and less. Word of a monster was spreading around the village.
"I've been meaning to talk to you," The market boy said pulling me aside, "Oh.. no," I said shaking my head trying to go back to the main part of the church, but he grabbed my wrist "It's important," he said and I sighed "Look, I'm not the type of girl you should... want," I tried to give him a signal to stop. "Will you marry me?" he asked and I closed my eyes and sighed "I... Can't," I said opening my eyes, but he just frowned "Can't or won't?" he asked and I shrugged "I'm not quite sure myself," I answered him honestly. His face turned red with anger "What did I spend all these months for?" he asked and I shrugged "I deserve you... I put in the time, the effort," his grip on my wrist tightening "I will marry you. Even if I have to drag you up there," he said and my hand came to his cheek causing a loud noise.
Everyone in the building quieted and looked towards us and he laughed "You really need to know your place," he said turning to face me again rubbing his cheek. I whirled on my feet before rushing out of the building and he was right on my tail until I got out into the pouring rain. "You can't hide," he called but I started running, I went straight out of town and into the forest. The downpour felt like whips leaving stinging marks on my face. The rain washed away my tears, my shoes were now soaked, my feet so cold I could no longer feel my toes. I only stopped when a large branch fell down in front of me blocking my clear path. I reached up to my face, trying to brush the water out of my face as it came. Suddenly the rain stopped and when I rubbed my face I realized there was something covering me.
That's when I saw his face with a sad smile "What are you doing out in the woods?" he asked with a hum "I don't suppose you were looking for me?" he teased "I want to see your nest," I called over the wind. He took me in his arms and the next thing I knew we were flying against the rain. I hid my face in the crook of his neck and the next thing I knew the rain was but a pitter patter on the roof. He set me down and I looked around the small house. A kitchen to the right, a large bed lifted in a bump out made of glass, and a small door that I assumed led to a bathroom. It was like a cute cottage. "It's not much," Koo said while shaking off his feathers, "No... it's lovely," I replied looking around, stepping further inside.
I took off my dress and hung it up on one of the nearby chairs, only when I turned to look at him and his head was fallen back staring at the ceiling, his cheeks bright red did I realize I had just stripped in front of him. He climbed my neck "I don't suppose you have anything for me to borrow," I joked bringing up my arms to wrap around my chest in like a hug. "S-sorry, I don't think so," he said rubbing the back of his neck, his head was still towards the sky but his eyes was looking towards me. "Don't look-" I complained turning around so my back was towards him "You'll only be disappointed," I mumbled with red cheeks. "Y/n- no," he said and I could feel his presence coming up behind me, his hands hesitantly hovering over my hips, the urge of wanting to touch so strong, but he had restraint.
"May I?" he asked, his breath tickling the back of my neck, I felt too embarrassed to speak but I nodded my head. His hands find purchase at my hips, his lips brushing over my shoulder and neck. I bite my lip, as his palms move over my stomach, to my waist, up to my ribcage, every inch of skin burning beneath his palms. His lips press hesitant but urgent kisses and I squirm. My heart racing, my pulse pounding, everything tingling, and I didn't want to stop it. I turn around in his arms and my lips find his, raw and frenzied. He groaned into my mouth and I took it, gave it back as a whimper- a silent cry as my entire body screamed for his.
My hands tore across his broad back, the muscles of his shoulders, into his hair, down to his slim waist. His kisses overwhelmed me. He overwhelmed me with his relentless presence, the solidity of him, his scent, the taste of his tongue dueling with mine, the feel of his strong body mashed against mine. In his grip, I was small and fragile, yet utterly desired and powerful. I'd never seen a man want me this badly. Ever. He lifted me and sat me down on the table. My legs instantly wrap around his waist, my arms around his neck, still kissing, biting, sucking until I tasted a tang of blood- his or mine, I didn't know. I was lost. Delirious with him. Blindly we tore at each other's clothing, his large hands went to the back of my bra, found the clasp and opened it. He moved one of my bra straps down my arm, his eyes tracing the slow path of his fingers as they skated down the side of my breast, following the curve of it.
When they skated back up, his rough palm cupped me, sending chills out through me. His touch was infuriatingly light, but his gaze is so dark it seems to dig into me, and I rocked with his motion, responding to his touch. The corner of his mouth twitched as his eyes move back to mine. He freed my other bra strap and the fabric fell away. The intensity of his dark eyes on my chest, drinking me in and taking his time doing so, made me shift and squirm on the edge of the table. The muscle in his jaw pulsed and he tugged me over his shoulder before tossing me on his bed. There would be consequences. This had to be a bad idea. He climbed over me, pinning me to the bed and I reached for his hips, but his hands catch mine, pinning them over my head "Careful Little Bird, my restraint was about to snap." Mine had already gone long ago.
"You know what, Koo?" he hummed in response to my question "In another life, I could love you." his expression softened, and my eyes glossed over because I couldn't believe what I was admitting "I might love you in this one." His lips crash back to mine, his hands releasing my wrists, fingers slipping up my panties to rub over my mound, causing my panties to dampen. He was clearly experienced, his fingers working over my clit, while also running over my entrance, applying pressure in all the right places at all the right times. His lips sloppily move to my cheek and then down my neck to the junction where my shoulder meets, his teeth digging into my skin the same time his fingers enter me causing me to whimper, fingers digging into his scalp.
Stars blur my vision and my back arches, rubbing our chest against one another, his lips find mine one more, rough and impatient, like he wants to consume my entire being with one kiss. I moan into his mouth at the addition of the second finger. It was all so overwhelming. The smell of him, the taste of him, the feel of him. He groans when I tug his hair, and he lifted his head to look at me, complete satisfaction on his lips as I come undone on his fingers. He pulls his fingers out and bring them to his mouth, slipping the between his lips, this action alone causes my cheeks to burn. "I've been waiting for the chance to see you bare, up close," he admitted falling back over me "And the ability to touch any part of you." I felt embarrassed at how he was gawking at me that I whimpered and his eyes shot to mine when he heard the sound. "What little bird? Do you want me to stop?" he asked, his eyes genuine and I shake my head no.
He resumes kissing me, this time not as rough as before, but still enough to take my breath away. Any thoughts were sucked right out of me, dizzying me further when his tongue slips between my lips. He groans against my mouth and I want nothing more to hear it again. His lips leave mine, traveling south, each kiss against my skin causing me to quiver and suck in a breath. Even if I wanted to deny this, I couldn't, I've never been wanted like this. His lips wrap themselves around my nipple, sucking along with his tongue causing my back to arch up into him. His other hand finds purchase on my other breast. Ecstasy. That's what his hands and mouth brought to me. But then he's moaning against my breast and he's rutting himself against my thighs.
He's very big, and very hard. And I wanted very hard and very big thing inside me, just the thought alone makes me groan. It was an embarrassing thought, but I couldn't bring myself to care. I open my eyes to look at him, he had nothing on at this point and I took the time to admire him. His back muscles straining with every movement, of course his back is strong, he holds his whole bodyweight up by them. He had a handsome face, so why wouldn't the rest of him be the same. He smirked lifting his head up, his eyes shining at me in silence for a moment. He bends forwards, putting both hands on either side of my head, staring down at me. He slowly inches his face back down to me until our lips meet for a gentle kiss. Each of his kisses had been so different. Rough. Smooth. Gentle. Almost as if he couldn't decide how to behave with me.
He gently caresses me and I think he's going to drive me insane "Koo," I said his name between kisses. He pulls back to look at me with an emotion I can't quite understand. He pushes my hair out of my face, running his fingers down my cheeks. My stomach swirls at this, he's looking at me like he's been waiting centuries to have me beneath him. I reach up to his face, and instantly he nuzzled into my hand "Give me all of you," I said and he groaned and the next thing I knew he was pushing inside. My hands find his shoulders, and I take a deep breath before letting go. My body was stretching in a way it never had before and never expected to. By the time he bottomed out, I was feeling so full that I thought I could burst. Yet, I felt excited, womanly.
It takes a minute or to for me to adjust to him, and by the time I look towards him without feeling dizzy I realize he had been waiting for me. His eyes were scanning over mine, searching for something, anything. I slide one hand up the side of his neck until I cupped his cheek. My thumb moves across his cheek an I offer him a smile. His eyes widen ever so slightly when he reads my mind, and once the second passes he starts thrusting into me at a slow pace. He was trying to make sure I didn't feel any pain, but I was feeling good. He was hitting a spot inside that he didn't reach before, and I whimper his name, giving him a squeeze. Then he ravishes me. One hand beside my head holding himself up, the other on my hip, to steady himself as he pistons himself into me.
I didn't know he could move so fast, but then again he wasn't human. I moan and wail, my mouth falling open with each thrust that pounds the life out of me. His face was buried in my neck, only grunts leaving his lips. "J-Jungkook!" I cried his name as my second orgasm rips through me, and I cling onto him. He doesn't let up and my vision becomes blurry in overstimulation, "Y/n," he moans into my throat and I revel at the feeling of his teeth against my skin. Then Jungkook is biting into my skin of my shoulder, and my eyes widen in pain, a silent cry leaving my lips, but the pain morphs into pleasure leaving me feeling dopy as his tongue sweeps over the blood. His hips start to stutter and suddenly overwhelming heat spills inside me. Koo is praying, or at least it sounds like it, in a language I've never heard of before.
By the time he's finished, he was collapsed on top of me, breathing into each other's neck, my arms around his neck and his moving around my waist. It takes a moment for the two of us to come down, but when Koo lifted his head to look at me I could cry. It was his look of pure love that he likes to give me. There were so many things I think he wants to say, but none of them cross his lips. He lifted me up and carried me to the makeshift bathroom, the two of us clean ourselves off. "Do you..." he cleared his throat "Do you need me to bring you back to the village?" he asked, his face was neutral but he was avoiding eye contact, because his eyes tell. I walked out of the bathroom and looked towards the door and then back towards his bed "If there's room for me I'd like to...Stay," I said waltzing over towards his bed.
"I've always had room for you," he said walking over to me, hand finding the small of my back, ushering me to get into his bed. I giggled before climbing into his feather down mattress under his silken sheets. I look back at the end of the bed where he stood, shifting from foot to foot "What?" I asked and he grumbled "I don't know if you want me in your bed," he admitted getting me to giggle, which in turns redden his cheeks, "I want you in my bed Koo," I assured him. He hopped into the bed, knocking me down. He laid beside me and I moved closer, resting my head underneath his chin, my hands against his chest. He purred, his arms coming around me pulling me to his chest, his face rubbing into the top of my head. This. This is the greatest feeling in the world. An oasis of comfort and warmth. I felt tears in the corner of my eyes so I squeeze them tight blushing. I'm so happy.
Exhaustion takes over and I fall fast asleep. A clap of thunder causes me to shoot up and for a moment I am at a loss to where I am. I lay down staring up at the ceiling, recounting my night, wondering if it was all a dream or something. I hear something shifting beside me and when I look over my shoulder I see Koo sleeping beside me. He inches towards me, aligning his body perfectly to mine. I feel the warmth of him on my back. He slips his arms around my waist, pulling me back, closer to him. He sighed contentedly and subconsciously nuzzled his face into my hair and the back of my head. My smile slowly creeps onto my lips, as I blink sleepily. I place my arms over his and let my eyes flutter shut once again.
I wake up to the sun shining in my eye. I sleepily rub my eyes and through the windows I could see beautiful leaves, the sun breaking between them. I smiled before sitting up and stretching out my arms, only to see Koo was already up, but he was sitting on the floor at the end of the bed. He was hugging his legs to his chest and he had guilty eyes and a pout on his lips, "Hello, darling," I greeted him, hoping my energy would rub off on him. "I was too rough with you last night and now you're going to regret coming here," he whined his eyes looking towards my shoulder and then down at the ground. My fingers reach up and run over the teeth marks he had left, but the indents just made my cheeks burn "I don't think so darling," I answered.
He groans throwing his head back "But you won't accept me as a mate," he complained and my fingers fell to the feather necklace around my neck "Why don't we start slower than that," I said getting him to look at me with expectant eyes. I get up from the bed and walk over to where my dress was hanging to dry and picked it up, it was mostly dry so I decided to put all my clothes on. "What am I to you?" he asked now standing and I smiled at him "How about boyfriend? Would you be alright with that for now?" I asked and he smiled clearly knowing what the term means "Yes... I would love that," He replied. As much as it would be fun to stay here with him, I knew that my stoic aunt would be worried about me. "Shall we walk back to the village?" I asked wrapping my arms around his neck and he wasn't enthused but he nodded his head regardless.
We flew for a while before he set me down on the trail towards the village. I laced my fingers through his as we continued to walk towards the village. I was telling him stories of my youth and my mother. He listened eagerly, as if he was trying to memorize every word. All words die when a loud shout followed by my name rushed through the air. Koo and I shared a look before following the voice. We were hiding in the trees looking out to see that it was only my aunt, she must've decided to come look for me because I didn't come home. I leave Koo's side and walk towards her "Aunty!" I called getting her to stop and turn around, when her eyes land on me her face flushes. As she stormed over to me I brace for her palm against my cheek, but instead she hugged me tightly to her chest "You stupid- Stupid girl," she scolded while holding me "Who runs into the forest in the middle of a thunderstorm, eh?" she added.
Even though her voice was aggressive, her words gave her away. I wrapped my arms around her "I'm sorry I made you worried," I replied and then she shoved me off "I- did not worry, but the market boy told me you hit him and ran off," she said crossing her arms over her chest, "I needed to know if I should kill him," she added. I shook my head "I think I was a little dramatic... I just didn't want to be his bride," I answered and she grunted "You're going to die alone girl," she said rolling her eyes. "No she won't." She screamed falling down onto the ground and even then she was still trying to move backwards. I sighed looking behind me at Koo "Why did you follow?" I asked him crossing my arms over my chest and he gave me innocent eyes "You didn't specifically tell me not to," he countered.
He moved to stand beside me and hen crouched down to be similar height to my aunt "You must be the woman responsible for raising Y/n. It's an honor to mee you," he said sticking out his hand. I could see her trembling, but she kept her face stoic and stuck out her hand "She came to me as a teen, I didn't do much," she replied. Jungkook smiled shaking her hand "You impacted her none the less and she's the creature I adore," he said before letting go of her hand. "You're the harpy?" she asked but her look was towards me, and suddenly I felt embarrassed but nodded my head nonetheless, "Did you put some kind of spell on that girl?" she asked him and I was about to tell her off for being rude, but Koo just chuckled "If being awfully persistent counts," he replied getting her to let out a laugh.
He stands up and then offers his hand to her, at first I worry she was going to slap it away, but she accepts his hand and he pulled her to her feet. "I assume she was with you last night," my aunt said, and I reach up to my shoulder hoping that nothing was visible from under my dress "Yes, I found her in the rain so I brought her home," he answered, brutally honest, which is just like my aunt "Did she tell you that market boy proposed?" she questioned crossing her arms over her chest. Koo froze, breathing deeply "S-she did not." My aunt smirked, loving the reaction "It's not funny," I scolded her, "Koo, I rejected his offer," I said grabbing his arm trying to bring him back to earth "You rejected him too?" he asked looking towards me and my cheeks burn "Too?" my aunt repeated with chuckle.
I turn Koo back towards where we came from "I should really walk my aunt home, so you can go," I said pushing his back "Wah, I like walking you to the edge," he whined and I shook my head "Goodbye Koo," I said and he pouted but took off flying. I sighed turning around to face my aunt who had a smile on her face "We're too alike child," she said before turning back towards the trail. "What do you mean?" I asked following behind her, she always told me I was too much like my mother and it drove her insane, "Our hearts choose what's most difficult," she said. I knew she meant that being with Jungkook would be hard, but no one makes me feel the way he does. "I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm just saying it's hard," she said as we approached the edge of the woods "I know," I whispered, truly she was just trying to take care of me in the only way she knows how.
We walked into the village and suddenly the market boy ran up to us "Y/n you left so fast-" My aunt puts a hand up in front of his face and he looked at her "What kind of man just lets a woman run alone in the forest in a storm?" she asked and he rubbed the back of his neck nervously "Well, she hit me so... I wasn't sure she wanted me to go after her," he answered and she rolled her eyes "Weak. Leave my niece alone," she said, stunning the both of us "Did I stutter? Take a hike," she said waving him off before grabbing my wrist and dragging me towards our house. "I cut those ties for you, the choice is yours," she said quietly and I couldn't help but smile "Thank you," I whispered.
I spend more time in the forest with Koo than I did in the village, sometimes I spend the night in his nest. He started making stairs for me up there, boards sticking out of the side the tree trunk and  had a long rope pinned to the tree as a hand rail. It was exciting that I might someday be able to get into his nest on my own. Jungkook didn't come to the house often, despite how badly he wants to explore the village with me. However, he does come over for dinner with my aunt once in a while, she acts like she dislikes him, but I can tell she has a soft spot for him. I was happy, so happy, and it didn't matter that we were different species.
"Koo!" I called walking through the forest, It was the evening and after doing a few odd jobs I wanted nothing more to rest in my lovers arms. The sun was setting but I wasn't worried, if it got too late, I could just stay with him. I devilled further into the forest "Kook-ah!" I called again and I heard a swoosh looking up at the branches to see large black wings. Then he landed a few feet in front "What are you doing out here little bird?" he asked with a teasing smile and I returned his smile "I was looking for you, darling," I said walking over towards him. As soon as I stepped close to him I am completely encased in him.
His arms were around my waist, my hands on his shoulders, our foreheads pressed together "There's a question I've been meaning to ask you," Kook said and I looked up to meet his gaze "Alright," I smiled "As long as it's not will you accept my feather," I teased him. His eyes widened and his hands retract to hide behind his back. I could tell he was trying to come up with something, "Oh..." I cover my mouth slightly, I blushed looking down "It is will you accept my feather," I whispered to myself. "Well... I'm not going to say it now, you ruining the moment," he joked sheepishly, I looked up at him "Is it will you accept my feather?" I asked feeling overly excited. "y/n, the moment's gone." he looked off to the side embarrassed.
"No- no No!" I stuttered panicking, I take a few steps back "Wait- Wait," I said using the stop with my palms, "Y/n..." "Start again," I instruct him, but his eyes were looking down still "Start again!" I said taking a few more steps back. He looked at me flustered "No- no I'm not just going to-" "I just got here, and I'm about to run into your arms," I explained while walking towards him and once I'm in front of him I wrap his arms around me "And you say I've got a question to ask you," I said looking up at him "And I don't say anything!" I felt completely flustered and like an utter fool "And then.." my cheeks heat up "you say..." I look at him expectantly and he chuckled letting go of me to hold his feather between us, more determined this time.
"Y/n, will you accept my mate feather?" he asked getting down on one knee, quite like how a man proposes to a woman. Tears well in my eyes and I am so happy beyond belief that I have a hard time formulating words. So I fling myself into his arms, causing him to fall backwards onto the ground with me on top of him. I lift my head up to press a kiss to his lips, "I accept," I said between breaths, "I want to be your mate Koo," I said nuzzling my forehead against his and he chuckled before getting up with me in his arms. Once we were both standing, he reaches up and ties the feather into my hair, his fingers running through my hair before landing on my shoulder "Oh, where would we live?" I asked pressing my hand to my forehead. There were so many different things we needed to figure out, "Little bird, come here," he said wrapping his arms around me before flying off.
Once we arrived to his home tree he stopped at the base and that's when I noticed the stairs were done. "You did it," I said before rushing towards them, I step on the first one, giving it a nice stomp to see how sturdy they were and I was pleasantly surprised. "May I?" I asked and he nodded his head, I started running up the stairs, holding onto the ribbon as I climbed higher, leaving Jungkook below. Once I got to the top, I realized his home now had a front door. I turn the handle and open the door to see a few things have changed, there were now extra door and a drop down latter from the ceiling in the middle of the room. I walk over to the door that was closet to the bed and pull it open to see it was a small room, maybe a closet, it had a places to hang clothes. Maybe a closet and or sewing room. I went back into the main room and climbed the drop down latter before climbing up it.
It was like a small attic room that had a looking glass on the ceiling, it was a cute room. I climbed back down and now Jungkook had flown up here "I tried to make it more house like," he explained rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. "I love it," I told him walking towards him "enough to call home?" he asked and I nodded my head "I just need a few things from the house," I told him. He carried me all the way back into town and we snuck into my room through the window. I pulled my suitcase from under the bed and started packing my clothes, books and jewelry. Jungkook was antsy waiting by the window, almost as if he was scared the two of us were going to get caught. My aunt knocked on the door "Y/n, are you in there? A few men said they saw something come in your window," she said which was unusual for her, if she ever wanted to talk to me she just busts in.
"Sorry, it was just me, I didn't want you to catch me," I replied before quietly closing the suitcase and handing it to Jungkook. I quietly ushered him out the window and he looked at me with pleading eyes, almost as if he didn't want to leave me here, but I kissed his cheek before shutting the window. "Can we come in?" she asked and I sat down on my bed "Sure," I said trying to seem as natural as possible. She opened the door and the man who I met in the woods bursts in, along with the market boy I had dated "I'm not fucking crazy," the woods man said looking at the market boy who put his hands up "I know she likes the woods... When did you get that feather?" he said and I felt as if they had caught me. "She's always colleting things from the forest. Are you two men satisfied?" My aunt said getting everyone to look at her, "Nothing but my niece in here, so leave," she added. The men grumbled before following her to the front door, I fell back on the bed, my heart pounding out of my chest.
"He can't come back here," My aunt warned and I let out a sigh "I know." I sat up to see her in the doorway. "I'm..." I felt tears well in my eyes "I'm leaving," I told her and although she didn't seem surprised, I could tell it affected her "Finally," she huffed with her hands on her hips. I stood up "Kook is probably waiting for me in the forest," I told her getting up and she nodded "Don't keep the bird waiting," she said following me towards the front door. "Take care of yourself," I told her and just as I was about to step out she caught my wrist. I turned to look at her but she was looking somewhere else "If... You get lonely when he goes down south... My door is always open," she said before letting go of me and I smiled "Thank you." I make sure to sneak out of town, making sure that no one saw me as I dipped into the forest.
Jungkook hardly waited "Are you alright?" he asked coming down from a nearby tree "Yes, nothing Aunty can't handle," I assured him. I wrapped both my arms around his neck "Let's go home," I whispered and he wrapped his free arm around me before flying up over the trees. I watched as the village I grew up in disappeared, I wasn't sure when I would be back, so it was a bitter sweet moment. We got back to the house and once inside, I brought my suitcase into the closet and hung up and put my things away, placing my books in the bookshelf. Then I changed into my pajama's before climbing into the bed that was now mine. Ours. I giggled at myself and Kook climbed into the bed with me, holding me "Thank you." his lips met my forehead.
Every morning when I wake up next to him I feel a smile tug at my lips, you'd think after a couple of months I would be used to it, but waking up to the person you love the most never gets old. I found out a few things about harpies and Jungkook, like the fact that every few months he goes into a heat where he's so sexually frustrated that he just wants to be on me and in me all the time. Or how he actually is more of a night owl, and so I always wake up before him. He's also very clingy when he's sleepy, purring  and nuzzling into me. I found out that the purring noise he makes come out when he's feeling content. Usually the shiny feather a harpy gives their mate, molds into their feathers, but since I wasn't a harpy, every once in a while the feather falls out. Jungkook's friend Namjoon helped me make it so that the feather remained in my hair without falling out. Every time Jungkook sees it he feels the need to run his head against mine.
All these things I was learning, I wrote down in a journal. I liked learning more about the creature I loved, but also I just hoped that someday I could teach people about harpies. They are not the Greek mythical creatures of our horror. That was my plan for the winter. It was going to be the first winter that he was going south without me. As much as he worried about taking me with him, he also worried about leaving me home because last winter I had gotten so sick, but I did my best to ease his worries. Our compromise was that I would stay with my aunt while he was gone. I had packed a few essentials into my suitcase, leaving everything else at home. The one I wouldn't see for the next few months. "So you're really going," I whispered as he set the suitcase down, but I wasn't ready for this. I grabbed his hand "Please Koo, I know I can be of help to you." I felt tears well in my eyes.
"Even though I'm not a harpy... and all I'm good at is cleaning..." "Y/n," he said reaching up to take my face between his palms, my hands around his forearms. "You're perfect," he said swiping his thumbs to collect my tears "Just the way you are. I'll be back before you know it," he promised giving me a smile. I nodded before reaching down to pull a scarf out of my suitcase "I made this for you," I said wrapping it around his neck. He brought it up to his nose and sniffed it "It smells like you," he said before pressing a kiss to my forehead "Thank you little bird," he whispered against my forehead "Don't keep me waiting too long," I said before grabbing him by his scarf and pulling him down to kiss him. After that he flew off and I felt the ache in my chest, but I swallowed it down before lifting my luggage and heading into the village.
People were staring and whispering as I walked through the town as if I was a ghost from the living dead. I got to my aunt's house and knocked on the door. I could hear her curse her old knees before the door swung open "Come crawling back?" she asked looking at me and then over at my suitcase, "For the winter... If you'll have me," I replied and she stepped aside to let me inside. I entered the house I grew up in and set down my suitcase "Birdboy isn't going to come through the window is he?" she asked and I shook my head no "He's gone for the winter," I whispered trying to act as if it didn't shake me to my core. "He really is a bird," she said before sitting down in her chair by the fireplace, "Actually it's a little different," I said finding my journal and pulling it out. Namjoon once explained to me the reasoning for them to head south and it wasn't because it was cold.
"There is a fruit that all mythical creatures need in order to survive," I explained reading my notes "This fruit only comes around every other years and thrives only at the equator," I added and she huffed "So what happens if they don't get the magic fruit?" she asked and I looked at her "I didn't ask but..." we both came to the same conclusion. "However, many hunters and trappers have noticed this trend and try to catch them," I said causing a shiver to go down my spine. If Jungkook never came back, I don't know what I would do. My hand falls to my stomach as I begin to feel nauseous, my aunt looking at me curiously "Are you alright dear?" she asked and I nodded "I just... worry about him coming back," I answered and she sighed "I think he'd crawl back to you if he had to," she assured me.
The next few months were difficult because I fell sick once again, but also I was constantly waiting for Jungkook to appear. Every flap of a feather had me turning my head to check if it was him behind me. I felt myself getting heavier despite how often and far I would walk through the snowy woods. I made a story out of the harpy information I got and read it to the children at the church, they loved it asking for me to read it over and over, answering their endless questions. I was rather fond of those kids. I also noticed the size of my stomach continuing to grow but not in the way of gaining weight. "Your pregnant," my aunt told me one day as I was admiring my stomach in the bathroom, "Pregnant? Is it possible?" I asked her and she looked at me "Well it certainly looks like it," she replied.
It was something that helped me take my mind of Jungkook returning, but it also made me more anxious for him to come home. It was a difficult birth, especially because of the wings, but my Aunt managed to deliver our daughter without too much difficulty. We would only notice the after effects in the future, so we focused on the cute little girl with wings instead. "She's like an angel," my aunt said placing her in my arms, the perfect combination of Jungkook and I, perfect in every way. "Rakia, we'll call her Kia for short," I told my aunt as the child relaxed in my arms. I knew it was only days before Jungkook would be home, the ground was starting to thaw and there was no more snow, it even looked like rain.
I left Kia home with my aunt while I took a stroll through the forest, I saw flapping of wings but just brushed it off as another bird. I've learned not to keep my hope up. "Y/n," I heard my name and my knees shook, I looked up into the branches and saw my harpy wearing his scarf, almost like he never took it off. He hopped down and engulfed me into his arms, and I cried into his chest holding onto him, so much had happened in the months he had been gone. "I'm home," he said and I let out a laugh "Finally," I replied before lifting my head to look at him, and the next thing I knew I was kissing him. He purred and the next thing I knew he was flying into the air, and I panicked when I noticed the village getting smaller "Wait- Kook, bring me to aunt's we can't just leave like that," I said and he whined in protest "Please," I said, he sighed before turning around heading back to the village.
It was daytime so it was a lot more difficult for us to sneak in but somehow we managed, sneaking in the window to my room. "We could've got your suitcase later," he grumbled crossing his arms over his chest "Koo, you silly bird," I teased before going into the main room where my aunt was rocking the baby. "Daddy's home," I cooed picking her up. Jungkook's eyes widened and he came in closer, sniffing her and suddenly his eyes glossed "Ours?" he whispered and I nodded "Kia," I informed him. I allowed him to take her from my arms "Bird from the heavens," he said looking down at her, his precious daughter in his arms. A single tear rolled down his cheek as he looked back at me. “I love you, both of you. So much”
“I love you more.”
Things have been different since the day I met a harpy in the woods, but I would do it all over again.

Damage Control - Chapter 1
Tumblr media
She’s never going to a Stark party again.
9:54 pm, Yesterday
He had lured her in the same way he always does, with sparkly words and false promises of an “intimate gathering.”
“C’mon, it’ll be real small. Promise.” Tony Stark’s sly smirk crawled through the phone, soft jazz and the rustling of pre-party preparations filling the background. “Exclusive guest list, VVIPs only. You know me! Plus I think Brad Pitt’s coming. You like Brad Pitt right?”
From all of the commotion behind him, she could already visualize the state of his mansion - extravagant bottles of champagne lined up along sleek bar tops and 40ft limos pulled up on his shiny marble driveway, ready to greet a dazzling guest list that would put NYC’s 1 OAK to shame.
Yeah. Intimate gathering her ass.
She snorted, rolling her eyes “Tony, you and I both know that’s bullshit.”
“No, seriously! Apparently his kids love me and are dying to get a signed mask, I mean who wouldn’t-”
“-you know that’s not what I meant.”
“So you’ll come?” She opened her mouth to refuse, then closed it, hesitant to give him a straight answer. This bastard knew perfectly well what he was doing. He was waving the guaranteed sophistication of a signature Tony Stark party in front of her face, and no matter how much she told herself not to, she knew she’d end up chasing after it like a dog every time.
She let out an exasperated sigh, head hitting the back of the couch with a ‘thud’.
“I don’t know Tony, Anne’s been up my ass all week about finishing the Times Square write-up, which is your fault by the way.” She poked the air with an accusatory finger.
Working under SHIELD’s Damage Control division had its ups and downs, but it was no easy work having to cover for the Avengers and the wreckage they left after every battle. Just this past month, a battle on 45th street between the team and the Kree had only lasted 20 minutes, but had caused her weeks worth of paperwork and overtime. Handling a million lawsuits, mending financial deficits, and approving blueprints for reconstruction, she couldn’t remember the last time she went to bed before 3 am.
“Hey, Squidward attacked us first! Something about the Avengers being the first step toward world domination.”
“Well, you should have killed him and his friends when you had the chance, cause thanks to them, I now have a 30-page writeup to edit” she glanced down bitterly at the open computer in her lap, glaring at the document in scorn.
Tony chuckled through the speaker. “So come to the party, it’ll help take your mind off things.”
Despite her annoyance, she appreciated the familiar sincerity in his voice — Tony had always been somewhat like a father figure to her away from home.
Miles from her family living in a tiny New York studio, she met Tony her sophomore year of college working as a nervous intern for Stark Industries. A few summers later and she was promoted to the grand title of personal assistant, attending boozy galas and benefits alongside New York’s famed billionaire.
At the time, she wouldn’t have missed his parties for the world. It would have been weird if she had, considering how most people her age spent their Friday nights in lines for dingy clubs with overpriced drinks. Her Friday nights were spent on private flights to Amsterdam or Paris.
But alas, she slowly departed from the fleeting materialism of her youth, and took off in search of a job where she could step away from the spotlight for a while. She landed her current job at Damage Control under Anne Hoag, an old business partner of Tony’s, and had slowly lost memory of the glamorous Stark parties over the years. Now, the opportunity to revisit that time in her life had arrived at her doorstep, all wrapped up in a pretty package, daring her to refuse.
Tony’s smug voice interrupted her thoughts, sounding satisfied with her long pause. “Great, knew you’d say yes! 11 PM tonight, don’t let me down Manhattan.”
Before she could protest, Tony had signed off with a click. He left her with a surprise there, using that nickname; she couldn’t even remember the last time she had heard it. The origin story for that nickname was a long one, but it had essentially started when she accidentally fixed him a Manhattan instead of an Old Fashioned (but really, what was the difference?). As much as she had been annoyed with Tony for using it back then, she had secretly grown fond of it over the years. Hearing it now struck a nostalgic chord in her that made his offer a bit more tempting.
Shutting her laptop, she let it flop down on the couch next to her. She let out a small sigh, surveying her cold, empty apartment. Dishes piled up in the sink. A small pile of laundry she’s avoided folding for weeks. When was the last time she had dressed up for anything, let alone for a fancy party? Massaging her neck, she let out a low groan, feeling a dull ache throb in her shoulders as she dragged herself sluggishly to the shower. Maybe she did need a few hours to destress.
One night couldn’t hurt, right?
5:31 am, Today
Fuck, everything hurt.
Her head pounded behind her eyes, blinding light shining through the windows.
What time was it?
Ugh, whatever it was, it was way too early. Draping a heavy arm over her eyes, she desperately trying to shield the light from her eyes. Why was it so damn bright? Her tiny apartment barely got any natural sun.
She rolled over to the edge of the bed, squinting up to realize that her alarm clock wasn’t on her bedside table. Instead, it was replaced by a greek-looking marble statue and a plant instead. She didn’t own any fucking plants. Frowning, she smoothed down the front of her sheets, feeling the luxurious satin glide against her palm and realized she wasn’t in her bed. This wasn’t her room. Last night, she had left Tony’s party early with… fuck.
Her stomach gave a sudden jolt as she frantically turned to the space to her left. She let out a sigh of relief, finding it empty. She ran a slow finger over the neatly folded corners, not a single fold out of line, before she sat up in the bed, clutching the expensive sheet to her chest as she took in the unfamiliar room of the Avenger’s compound. She’s made some questionable decisions in the past, but this beat everything else by a mile. She dragged her hands down her face exasperatedly, letting out an internal groan. She was used to handling shitty situations: wrecked buildings, stranded helicarriers, and alien hostages.
But how on earth was she going to handle this?
She thought about leaving a note, but the idea of trying to find a pen and paper in this gigantic space intensified her headache. Maybe a voicemail but… she didn’t have his number. Great. Where was her damn phone anyway?
Another jolt of panic ran through her before she remembered that it was probably in her purse… which was somewhere downstairs. She hadn’t managed to keep track of it after, well, how quickly shit escalated last night.
Snatching up her dress from off of the floor, she hastily pulling it over her head and stumbled out of the wooden slide door. It revealed a long hallway, mostly empty save for a few giant, expensive-looking paintings. She clambered down the nearest staircase she could find, her heels sliding against the sleek glass and scraping the back of her feet.
The second floor of the Avenger’s Compound was a huge, not to mention bright, open lounge, equipped with a bar, pool table, a meeting room, and probably a million other facilities that she couldn’t afford to stay and gawk at right now.
Spotting the steps leading down to the first floor, her only way out of this mess, she started to scramble toward it.
“Going somewhere?”
A smug voice called from the kitchen countertop. She jumped, sleep suddenly cleared from her eyes, swiveling around to see Tony slumped over the countertop, cradling a glass of water in one hand and an aspirin in the other. What was he doing at the compound so early? She felt a flicker of pity at his bed head and dark circles, but then again she would’ve given anything to be getting over a hangover instead of being in her shoes right now.
On his smug, exhausted face was a shit-eating grin, stretching the dark lines beneath his eyes, eyes that told her that he remembered everything from last night. That he remembered… shit.
She let out a small gasp.
“Tony,” She jabbed an accusatory finger in his direction. “You cannot tell anybody.”
His grin widening, he shrugged, feigning innocence. “Tell what?”
Oh, he’s gonna play that game? With a hangover?
She groaned, dragging her hands down her face. “Where is he?” She asked quietly into her palm, praying that Tony would give her a straight answer.
“Who, loverboy? He wasn’t in bed with you?”
She jerked her hands away from her face in disbelief, raising her voice “Tony-”
“Relax, relax,” he chuckled, clearly enjoying her torment. “He’s probably out running his daily fucking marathon or something. Should be back soon.” A pause, before he added with a devilish smile.
“Guess you didn’t tire him out enough last night.”
“Tony, I swear to god.” She rolled her eyes and sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose.
Ok. At least God gave her one thing. Seeing as he wasn’t here, if she leaves now she’ll be able to avoid one awkward conversation.
She sighed, running a hand through her no doubt messed hair as she tried to gather her thoughts. “Have you seen my purse?”
Twisting around in his stool, he lazily pointed to the couch, sat in the middle of an appallingly clean living room. Swiveling back around, he winced as if the movement made him dizzy.
Serves him right.
Snatching up her purse from its spot on the expensive leather futon, she made her way to the stairs and down to the first floor, away from what seemed to be the most humiliating moment of her life.
Tony’s mocking voice stopped her dead in her tracks.
“Where you headed?”
Her eyes fluttered closed, questioning why she hadn’t poisoned the man the countless times she had brewed him coffee or freshened his drink.
Taking a breath to compose herself, she turned around slowly, putting on the most neutral expression she could muster.
“I…” She stalled, trying to dig as far down her mental vat of ‘excuses to get out of shit’ as she could.
“I’ve got a client meeting.”
“Really? On a Sunday? Must be some damn important client.”’
Well, shit.
Tony must have sensed her desperation as he tsked, leaning forward on the table.
“Come on, I gotta tell him something, Manhattan”
“I…” She spent another moment trying to come up with a decent enough excuse, fumbling with the clasp on her purse, before giving up altogether, letting out an exasperated sigh.
“Just… just make something up for me, ok? I-I gotta go.”
“Go where?”
She whipped around, bug-eyed, stomach dropping through the floor at the man standing at the top of the stairwell. Biceps bulging through a ridiculously tight workout shirt, sweat glistening down his neck as he tilted his head back to take a swig of water, and god, did this man ever take a break?
She realized she had been ogling while he watched her expectantly, so oblivious to her horror.
He swallowed his water, neck flushed pink, before giving her a rather shy smile.
“Hi.”
She barely responded with a curt ‘hello,’ unable to meet his innocent eyes. This has got to be the world’s most pathetic walk of shame, she thought—she’d crawl into the nearest hole if she could.
The unbearable silence between them was suddenly broken by an overdramatic cough from behind her.
“Well, this has been delightful to watch, but this superstar’s got to catch up on his beauty sleep.” Tony slid off languidly off the stool, yawning dramatically as he stretched.
Oh, so now he wants to leave?
Glancing back in their direction, he winked, looking straight at her.
“Gosh, what a night, huh?”
She felt her face burn a deep crimson, and couldn’t even bear to check what hue of red Steve’s face was.
As Tony shuffled upstairs, she heard Steve clear his throat. Out of the corner of her eye, he started to take a hesitant step toward her, glancing down at his feet.
“So… about last night.”
Fuck.
She’s never going to a Stark party again.

Starbula Week Day 3 Jealousy
@starbulaweek
"Ugh! I still don’t get how they fall for his 'charms'." Rocket let out a growl, watching with disgust as Peter flirted with a Kree girl. "And to think Gamora was one of the victims."
Nebula took a sharp breath,, bitting her tongue and jaw tense while throwing daggers at the young girl, which went unnoticed as that stupid naïve kid stared at the man in front of her with hunger.
"This is taking too long." She commented, trying to contain herself. She didn't know why she felt this burning fire in her chest, and why she was so disgusted to see the girl giggling like an idiot and at Peter smirking at her.
"100 credits that girl will end up in his bed." Rocket added as Peter moved much closer to the young Kree, a mischievous gllee in his eyes while bringing an arm around her hip.
"100 that she'll end up with a broken arm." She elegantly sipped her drink and put it down on the bar, standing up from the stool.
"A broken arm? Why would she end up with... Nebula, hey! Hey! Where are you going?!"
That touch was more thanshe could bear. And though she tried to restrain herself from going and interrupting their leader, her emotions took over and with hurried steps she approached the pair of lovebirds.
Disgusting, she thought.
She didn't care about it was all an act to get information about a group of Kree warlords involved in a secret slavery trade with the Kree empire. She couldn't stand another second as the young girl closed the the distance and was now withing inches of kissing Peter.
"That’s enough fun for the day. I’ll take over from here." She grabbed the kree girl by the throat and dragged her into the nearest private booth, causing a commotion among the other customers in the club. Peter barely had time to react when she had her pressed against the wall with a dagger in her neck.
"what the fuck are you doing?!" Peter demanded at her unexpected outburst.
"You were taking too long.”
"I was just getting started! I had her right where I wanted!"
"Where? Your bed?” She scoffed, eyeing him up and down. “That was your strategy? Say fancy words so she can open her legs.”
“it works better than putting a knife to her throat!”
“But it’s faster. We don’t have time for your stupid games, Star Lord.” She turned to the girl, pressing the blade deeper into the girls neck. “Now you’re going to talk, or your head will be rolling on the floor.”
Peter let out a strangled grunt, throwing an arm in exasperation. “You’re scaring her. Let me do the talking.”
“No, you two talked enough already.”
Peter stared at her with a frown and a raised eyebrow. “Wha—that was the plan! We talked about it on the ship! I have a more friendly face than you bunch of psychopaths!”
“Oooh, cmon! You just want to hook up with her!”
“And?! If that means it’ll get us the info I wouldn’t care having a bit of fun!” He paused when he realized, eyes going wide. “Wooah, hold on are you jealous?!”
She did her best to put on the most mortified expression. “We are trying to dismantle a slaving network and you think I’m jealous?”
“You sound like you are…” The girl mumbled in fear. And Nebula gave her another growl, the blade finally drawing blood.
“You shut up!”

If you had the chance to fix some comic storylines that you thought were bad or a waste of potential which ones would it be.
I'm taking this as an excuse to tell you how I would rewrite every GOTG run barring 2008 and 2020.
2013
I think this run would've been. so fucking cool. if original sin dropped the bombshell that the Peter Quill we've been following this whole time is the Peter Quill of the Cancerverse and 616 Pete is still trapped in the Cancerverse with Rich.
It'd do a lot to explain the wonky characterization-- and it'd give the Guardians themselves a clear-cut mission. the 2013 kind of meanders a lot with no clear goal, so it'd benefit from a straightforward "save x from y" type of mission.
Peter & Rocket's friendship would be a big focus here; I think if Pete was replaced, Rocket would be one of the first to pick up on it
Plus, Adam could show up <3
2015
Extrapolating the Wanted arc into something more- by this point in the GOTG comics, they've pissed off every major empire (Kree in Black Vortex, Shi'ar in TOJG, Spartax by Peter's existence, Badoon by Gamora's existence, etc) and it'd be fun if it was just... every galactic empire is gunning for their heads & they've got to keep up the whole guarding the galaxy through that.
I'd have Cammi come back in this, like if we've gotta have her with the Ravagers then fine, she's there to take them in 'cause she's pissed that they never found & she got stuck with Arcade.
It gives Drax some limelight & focuses on how he navigates being a father
Nebula as the main villain, having the Graces as arc long bad guys for the team to fight. Neb obviously has her 616 personality & is in this for the bounty - but Gamora can take it personally due to the drama with the Graces
All New All Different/2018
Magus as the main villain this seems so obvious to me
I'd keep the Infinity Wars stuff, just in a way that makes sense. Gamora is working with Magus to get her soul back because he's also got a part of him stuck in there
It's all a scheme by Magus & Goddess to escape Soul World; Goddess has shown to be able to brainwash Gamora before, so we can put that on that
I'd also not. downplay the Ultron side of things. Conquest was fucking traumatizing for this team
Gamora's past with the Phalanx would also work well with the Magus/Goddess thing; maybe she's got it in her head that if she gets her soul back, she'll have purpose again
Mantis would be there for the Ultron side of things
I would work Phyla's resurrection in there somehow. 616 Phyla, specifically, like I don't think anything fancy needs to be done at all, Thanos has been resurrected so many times it'd be simple to say Oblivion brought her back to combat Magus&Goddess
Can work the Groot stuff into the themes of Soul & Trauma like... Groot died in Conquest, he was lit on fire, and grew back as a little stump. So the Groots are killing worlds... but it's always worlds that Ultron was going to target & it's a fucked form of mercy
2019
In stories that focus primarily on Thanos & the Universal Church of Truth as the antagonists, I would simply not make it the Peter Quill show & instead let Gamora & Warlock take the lead
If Starmora has to happen, I'd have Peter's arc be more about trust & how to keep it, contrasting with Gamora's arc of learning to give second chances after people hurt her
I'd also. address how Adamora broke up, like delve into why, bring in Atleza in at least a mention, etc
2023
I'd keep Grootfall as some kind of corrupting force in the Manifold Territories but not as the reason they're there
Instead
I'd use the whole "the Manifold Territories are from beyond the known universe" and have Peter be the one insisting they go. Have him aware of the risk this could pose to teammates (maybe have it have something to do with damaged souls-- Gamora's & Drax's are healed after Infinity Wars, etc, but Groot is still vulnerable from the Gardener) but he does not care because if it's beyond the known universe, it's beyond the sun
He's trying desperately to get back to Morinus
Mantis has brainwashed the others into coming & it becomes an inverse of GOTG2008; instead of Peter doing all of this for altruistic reasons, it's because he wants to go home
Continuing to inverse 2008 - show how the GOTG have changed each other through their refusal to kill Groot. Peter shot Warlock; now, years later, he can't do that to Groot. Being a Guardian has changed him
Like show the positive & negative effects that the Guardians have had on everyone

Just saw on twitter that maybe Carol being Captain Marvel is an anomaly and I find this interesting.
Below are just theories, don’t come for me for this:
What if Maria as Captain Marvel/ Binary is more powerful than Carol as Captain Marvel? Or what if Carol was the strongest Captain Marvel? I’m not dismissing Maria as being less powerful than Carol. It’s just a theory. Also, what if Carol cheating was a last minute change?
That would be an interesting angle to play out and I think What If should have this episode. Cause I think Maria being Captain Marvel/ Binary would not a carbon copy of Carol as Captain Marvel.
Maria is different from Carol. She probably would be able to control her powers better and probably be more decisive and strategic. I don’t think she would destroy the Supreme Intelligence like Carol did but possibly do things differently.
I don’t know how she would but it would be an interesting take. Like how Maria as Captain Marvel/ Binary would handle finding out the Kree kidnapped her and how she took down Yonn-Rogg and her former teammates.
Plus Maria’s relationships with Monica and Carol will be different.
