Schitt’s Creek: David Rose - Type 6w7
David is neurotic, sarcastic and loyal. He is smart, funny and is very creative.
At his best, David is loyal to his friends and is very caring of the people he loves. Later on, he learns to be more self-sufficient and creates a successful business. David becomes more calm and less neurotic, which is partly due to the influence of Patrick. He becomes at peace with living in Schitt’s Creek and begins to consider it a true home (integrating to 9).
At his worst, David is narcissistic and rude. When he first moves to Schitt’s Creek, David is disdainful of the town and its residents. He was overly attached to his material possessions and the wealth that he had previously held. He was self-absorbed and unconcerned with other’s feelings or problems (disintegrating to 3).
David is generally very fearful and phobic, although he tries to hide it from others. He is often shown to think the worst case scenario is going to happen and is frequently suspicious of other’s motives (especially those he does not know). For example, David did not want to go to the club with Stevie because he thought there would be a murderer there. David has been shown to be scared of bugs, heights and germs. He is shown to prioritise his safety above all else, so when first moving to the motel he asked Alexis to switch beds so the murderer could kill her first.
David is a chronic overthinker and this affects his daily life immensely. For example, David could not get his driver’s license because he was so nervous and could not stop thinking about everything that could go wrong. So while, David was a perfectly adept driver, his crippling test anxiety was holding him back. At times, he has also been shown to be a bit of a hypochondriac. For example, David thought he was having a heart attack, when in reality he was actually having a panic attack.
David is snarky and sarcastic, often showing a dry sense of wit. This is something he shares with Stevie and they bond over their shared sarcasm and disdain for people. David will often be sarcastic when he is feeling threatened or insecure. For example, when he is in the Blouse Barn with Roland, he has taken offense that Roland likes the blouses the owner picked out better, so he tells the owner that the store is ‘skanky’. He also can be particularly blunt to Alexis often insulting her intelligence.
In his relationship with Patrick, David learns to become more calm and secure. Patrick helps David stop stressing about everything and helps him to be more at ease. He brings David stability and predictability, which is something 6s often seek in relationships.
I have seen David typed as a 4 before because of his creative streak, however I believe that David does not show 4 motivations at his core or in his behaviour. David has a strong need to be liked and is sad when he doesn’t fit in. For example, when Stevie insults his outfits for being weird, David is very upset and self-conscious about it. This is more in line with a 6 response than a 4, as 4s will often take weird as a compliment, rather than an insult. Moreover, 6s are very conscious about what other’s think of them and can tend to magnify small comments, which is what we are seeing here.
David shows his 7 wing as he is more extroverted and energetic than a wing 5 would be. He has a tendency to be scattered and rush through things, which shows the influence of his wing 7.
Tri-type: 6w7 - 4w3 - 1w2
Some quotes to describe David’s traits and motivations:
"The internet is a breeding ground for freaks!"
“I Googled that bug. It’s some sort of demonic cricket that takes chunks out of your skin when provoked. ‘Chunks’ is the word that Google used.”
“I was perfectly fine not trusting people. Not trusting people is what I’m used to. It is my comfort zone.”
“I’ve been burned so many times I’m like the human equivalent of the inside of a roasted marshmallow.”
“He told me he doesn’t want my help, so I’m just going to play the supportive partner and watch him fail.”
"What kind of sociopath abandons her family in some vomit-soaked dump to galavant around the world with her dumb, shipping-heir, loser boyfriend she's known for three months?!"
“I’m gonna pass. I’m not in the mood to be the victim of a hate crime tonight.”

1. Super diverse, co-existing in perfect harmony and love and respect and everything positive in this god forsaken world.
2. Mr and Mrs. Kim. They are perfect, so freaking perfect. Appa is direct and Eomma has no filter.
3. The Kim siblings.
4. Find yourself a friend like Kimchee and you find gold!!
5. Shannon Ross is basically calling me out on every crush I've had in my life. She's dorky, awkward and super super sweet. Jung should've got her first and never let her go.

Schitt’s Creek: Patrick Brewer - Type 9w1
Patrick is practical, calm and serious. He is kind, business savvy and has a tendency to avoid his problems.
At his best, Patrick is calm, measured and driven. For most of what we see, Patrick is in the upper levels of health. He will (for the most part) take action when he needs to, which is something 9s can struggle with. Patrick is a genuine, patient and supportive partner to David.
At his worst, Patrick avoids his problems and keeps secrets from the people he loves to prevent possible conflict. He becomes stressed about what people think of him and does not want to disappoint them.
I went back and forth on Patrick’s typing. For Patrick I was stuck between 9 and 1 for the most part, as he exhibits many qualities of each type (either way its clear he has a strong wing). Patrick exhibits the seriousness and practicality of a type 1. He is very grounded and down to earth, generally taking the kind of ‘no nonsense’ kind of approach that is typical of a type 1. However, I feel that the way Patrick approaches his problems and his motivations are more indicative of a type 9. Patrick tends to have a lot of trouble saying what is on his mind, which we see in the beginnings of his relationship with David. He knows that he has feelings, but he is too scared to act on them. When David kisses him, we even see him saying ‘thank you’ because he knew that if David hadn’t made the first move he never would have. I think this kind of reaction is very telling of Patrick and is one of the reasons I settled on 9 as his type. 9s often have trouble asserting themselves and telling people their feelings.
Furthermore, type 9s often minimise their issues and if there is an issue they will avoid it. We see this in Patrick, when his ex-fiancee comes back into town. Patrick assures David that there is nothing to worry about and that the problem was inconsequential, but we find out later that Patrick had been ghosting her the entire time he was dating David. Patrick avoided his issues with both of these people, because he was scared of the possible conflict that could arise.
Likewise, when Patrick’s parents come to town David quickly finds out Patrick hasn’t told them about him yet. We later find out that Patrick was afraid that his parents would no longer accept him if they found out he was in a relationship with a man. It took Patrick a lot of effort to come out to his parents and it might not have even happened without the encouragement of David, who assured him that no matter what he will always support him. Additionally, Patrick comes across as very conventional and I think he is afraid of not fitting in which I believe also played a role as to why he didn’t come out for so long.
Patrick shows his wing 1 as he is very serious, practical and organised. He cares more about what people think of him and is more even tempered than a wing 8 would be.
Tri-type: 9w1 - 3w2 - 6w7
Some quotes to describe Patrick’s traits and motivations:
“Thank you, I’ve never done that before with a guy. I was getting a little scared that I was going to let you leave here without us having done that, so thank you for making it happen for us.”
“David, I've spent most of my life not knowing what right was supposed to feel like, and then I met you. And everything changed. You make me feel right, David.”
“When you kissed me, that felt like my first time. All the things that you're supposed to feel, I felt them last night.”
“So I used to come on this hike a lot when I just moved here. I was developing feelings for this guy I had just gotten into business with. And...I didn't know what to do about it because I didn't know if that guy had the same feelings or if I'd ever be able to muster up the courage to let him know how I felt. And now, here he is, the love of my life, standing in front from of me. And this just felt like the perfect place to ask you to marry me.”
Patrick: “Listen, David, I've been wanting to tell them about us, I really have. I've just wanted to do it in person. But then I didn't go home for the holidays and then I was feeling comfortable with you and your family”
David: “I don't know? I guess I was thinking? So, all of this time they thought that they were just talking to your business partner.”
Patrick: “David, I know that my parents are good people. It's just that I can't shake this fear that this could change everything? That they'll see me differently or that they'll treat me differently and I'm going to tell them as soon as I see them next. Okay?”
