Birthday origami and fic rec list: fantalf
Happy birthday @fantalf!!! 🥳💕
Here's a thing I made for you based on the fact that you like Aladdin and 1001 Arabian Nights. It's an origami secret drawer tower with those themes! If anyone wants to know a bit about the reasons behind the colours, trinkets chosen etc., I've added it below the cut. Please click on the images for better quality! Origami, like life, requires resilience, patience & flexibility. Not only do you have to see the whole, but the smaller parts as well.
It's just one of the parts I love about the fic 😌 and it's so true. Lory, thank you so much for cheering me on and encouraging me not just for origami (esp for the more challenging works for this collab hfjdjs) but also life stuff. When Draco wakes up from the Incident of the DoM with no memory of what happened and what he allegedly did, he needs to find the missing pieces of his life. All between balancing his duties, his despise for the Wizarding World dearest Saviour, Longbottom, and dealing with those warm green eyes that haunt his mind.

Harry knew magic; he used it every day. At home, at his job. How could music, people, and heat simply create magic? He hadn’t had the answer for that, but it did.
Read on to find out more about the magical time that Harry has with Draco, Ginny and Luna at Carnival in Salvador, and on their trip to various places in Brazil in Tripping Over You. It's accompanied by Lory's gorgeous photos from their visits to those places, which they have used as backgrounds in the drawings of the characters! 😍

Unable to understand his own gender identity, Harry finds solace in a place where anyone can pretend to be someone else for the night, surprised he's not the only one he knows that searches for the same release.
What the summary says! This is an absolutely lovely and emotional fic about Harry's self-discovery, with help from Luna and Draco, and experiences at club PRTND. Accompanied by Lory's amazing artworks, one of Harry at the club with soft, neon vibes, and two particularly striking ones of Harry and Draco's eyes.

If anyone's curious, this is the finished product of this WIP! okk so the colours are mostly blue, silver, gold and purple to go with the Aladdin theme,, went with those based on some moodboards Lory shared with me. I felt like the purple-blue galaxy themed paper that forms the top of the tower added to the whole vibe. Lory likes neon so I added a neon yellow and neon blue drawer as well. For the drawer which has the musical notes on it, it's folded using a square cut out from a copy of the sheet music of the song Arabian Nights from the Disney movie Aladdin. The outer boxes are folded using ivory colour paper cos it's simple and goes nicely with the trinkets I've added, also the same colour theme. I folded the small purple star that's stuck to one face, and the rest are all a bracelet, beads, and a glow-in-the-dark star I have. The connectors are folded using black paper cos again it's simple and goes nicely with the rest of the colours without clashing. I went with the secret drawer tower model because I felt like the whole drawers containing secrets kinda reminded me of how Shahrazad in 1001 Arabian Nights had a new story to tell every time so she just keeps opening up and revealing story after story. And tower because well she visited the king in the palace each night to tell the stories. I hope this all makes sense hfjdjd. If you made it this far, thank you for reading 🙈

HP Rec Fest, Day 4
As a big enthusiast of HP art I couldn’t be more excited about today’s prompt from @hprecfest. In my experience, the fic + art combo always feels like a special treat and makes the reading experience all the more immersive and magical. If you’re a Drarry fan make sure to check the HD Big Bang Fest which brings amazing collabs between writers and artists. I was hard pressed to rec my all-time fave A Sword Laid Aside by @korlaena with stunning artwork by @saulaie, but in the spirit of reccing new, lesser known works I’ve picked 2 Drarry fics and 1 rarepair. I’m so delighted to rec authors and artists I’ve admired for such a long time. Thank you all for sharing your talent with us!

this is such a cool and creative case fic, I was hooked since the start and can’t believe how CBG’s origami art only enhanced the sense of mystery and the story’s creepy, dream-like quality. brilliantly well thought and executed, I promise this will haunt you for a while!

I adore this charming and quirky shop owner Draco, watching Harry fall for him was such a treat. Just like the story, Joy’s art is rich, creative and tender, with layers of soft angst expertly woven underneath 🤌🏼

this luxurious series is a feast to the eyes and an absolute rarepair classic in my opinion; a must read to all NottPott fans or those curious about the ship like myself. I was immediately sold on this hot tattooed power couple being sexy & tender across a series of deliciously intimate slice of life vignettes.

Because @crazybutgood and I spend our days enabling each other, we're back with another rec list! This time's niche theme is all about art. Some works focus on art as a main concept, while others feature artist characters or art in some form. Here is part 1 of our recs with a colourful mix of both! All works marked by 🌈 are recced by CBG, and those marked by 🎨 are recced by me.
🎨Finely Drawn Lines by @the-sinking-ship (E, 64k, Draco/Harry)
Draco doesn’t consider himself an artist (though the dozens of sketchbooks lining his shelves might suggest differently). Yet ever since Potter returned to Hogwarts, accepting a teaching position alongside Draco, his drawings have taken on a rather singular focus. From the curl of his lips to the exact number of lines that form at the corners of his eyes when he laughs, Draco has catalogued every shade of one Harry James Potter between the pages of his sketchbook. So long as Potter remains none the wiser, Draco will have no trouble controlling his crush. But when Potter comes to him with a dangerous proposition, Draco fears things are about to get so much more complicated.
Before he realised it, Draco had gone ahead and catalogued Harry Potter’s every expression. And this was precisely the reason Draco could never let Potter see inside his sketchbook. What he was doing would most certainly be considered creepy, although he never meant for it to be. It wasn’t as if he was following Potter around or lurking in dark corners, carving his portrait into every surface. It was simply that Potter was a very good subject.
Oh, and Draco was a bit in love with him. There was that.
🎨The Art of the Matter by @thestarryknight (E, 5k, Draco/Harry)
Someone has been casting increasingly awful curses on artworks, targeting Muggle viewers. Draco and Harry are one of the best cursebreaking teams around despite their penchant for distraction in cloak closets. Their latest case? A Muggle portrait in the Paris Salon with a virulent blood curse.
In seven years, Harry had learned a thousand ways to take Draco apart. Most of these did not need a single word or a single touch, so attuned were they to the very intimacies of each other’s motions. Harry loved like it was the only thing he knew how to do. He looked at Draco like Draco was the only thing he had ever seen, like Draco ought to be stared at every moment of every day and Draco was starting to believe it, crazy as it seemed.

Left to his own devices the summer after the prank, Sirius crafts an unusual gift to mend his relationship with Remus.
He flipped to the section of still lifes, loving the off-kilter tables and apples that looked like they could tumble right off the page. Sirius had felt like one of those apples his whole life, ready to fall right off the edge, always liminally right on the fucking edge.
🎨 The Treasuries of Firenze by jennandblitz (M, 14k, Remus/Sirius)
A chance encounter in a market sends Sirius Black spiralling down a path he couldn't escape, even if he wants to.
He’s just in shirtsleeves, the thin cotton enough of an allusion to translucent that Sirius imagines he can see through to the planes of reality where the two of them know each other better.
🎨 Let Men Burn Stars by @wolfpants (E, 18k, Remus/Sirius)
Remus felt impossibly flummoxed by them both, but mostly by Sirius. He was like the last argument in a text that he couldn’t make heads or tails of. The temptation to unravel him was undeniably strong. -- Just a little story about two boys fumbling and falling in love one summer in Buckinghamshire.
Remus offered him his hand to help him up from bed, and it was a cruel move, he knew that, but they were now playing a game of to and fro, and this was his to, desperately casting out a net to catch Sirius’s fro.

In October of their sixth year, the weather changes, Sirius paints (another) moonscape, and Remus goes blind.
“Where did you learn to paint so well?” A blushing, eleven-year-old Remus asked his new friend.
Sirius blushed back, red, le pomme, and shrugged and said “all purebloods learn” and grew ten feet inside, because Remus Lupin thought he painted well.

Harry Potter was possibly the last person Draco had expected to find standing at the foot of his favorite portrait at the Tate Magique. And yet, there he is, looking incredibly fit and monopolizing the attentions of the portrait. It's not bloody fair.
There’s no sense of color in the rough pencil lines, but Draco can see the echoed ideas of shading -- the bright folds of Sarah’s shiny taffeta skirt echoed in inverse in the deep creases of Myfanwy’s heavier broadcloth dress.

When Harry Potter, reclusive artist, finally agrees to an interview, Draco can hardly believe that he'll be the one to do it.
He’d talked a bit about Potter’s studio, which really was a nice building, open and airy with large windows and lots of light. And all the paintings, of course. He’d made sure to mention how they’d rendered him speechless.

Drarry projects on tumblr appreciation
It’s summer, it’s hot, too many words makes head hurt, but. This is important. Did you know? That this fandom is blessed with so many cool individuals, who create the COOLEST projects? (Yes: really, really, really cool). Like:
1. @drarrymicrofic. I, for one, wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the sweat and tears and SWEETness of the people of @drarrymicrofic. Running such a large operation must be one hell of an endeavour, but they do it all with so much love, with so much passion for the craft and the people behind it. Sparking inspiration, cheering people on, giving a boost to new writers (and old!), changing lives. Yeah. To the people behind drarry microfic: thank you.
2. Tuesday TLC Zone – sometimes being kind is hard. Especially to yourself. @the-starryknight takes time and effort to remind us it’s possible, that it’s important, gives us a gentle push to explore the things we like, to spread love and joy and yes, kindness, into the world. To share positivity, and also share bits of ourselves. Because we’re allowed, because it’s fun, because it matters. Thank you, Starry.
3. @magicaltrans is doing such brilliant, remarkable work, creating a much needed safe space for trans individuals in this fandom, giving a hand and a boost and so so much support. We all know where the source material for our fandom comes from. And in this place, magical trans is here celebrating trans people, trans love, trans joy, trans being! Making a space! They also mod a discord server (if the link in this post doesn’t work, ask them for a new one). To the people behind magical trans: thank you.
4. Wizards Hearts is the @gameofdrarry community fest that celebrates existing works rather than creating new ones. It’s so easy to forget older fics when so much is being made all the time - which makes this initiative so incredible! Showering existing works with love, shining a light on new (to-you) fic, creating recs and generating joy: just, absolutely brilliant. Thank you!
5. @crazybutgood‘s Author Appreciation Project – CBG puts so much work and thought and heart into her origami art, using her incredible talent to bring people together, to give us the chance to flail about each other, to let us shower each other with love. Then she takes all that and condenses it into the world’s most enchanting, special rec posts. Thank you, CBG!
6. @drarryspecificrecs does incredible work organising SO MUCH information of drarry fic, whether it’s in the daily lists (at @drarryspecificrecsdaily, for example here for July 31st), the monthly longest-fic lists (see here for July this year), fest information (see here for 2022). Where would we be without them? I shudder at the thought. Thank you for the magic!
7. I know what you’re thinking: fests, Robin, what about fests? Well. The thing is, there are so many fests, ran by so many wonderful people who give us their time? Actually for free? There’s @hd-wireless and @hp-fearfest and @hp-bodiceripper and @hd-fan-fair and @lcdrarry and @hpdrizzle and @hdsudsfest and and and honestly I can’t even begin to—I can’t. So I’ll just say: wow, wow, wow, and also a sort of teary-eyed, misty, big thank you.

Tty shared the quote “Every abyss is navigable by little paper boats” — João Guimarães Rosa. I really like it, and it reiterates to me to try my best to find brightness in dark times, calmly figure out solutions to problems, and turn to the little things I enjoy—like origami—when things seem bleak. This is how I thought I could represent that, while also drawing on tty’s gorgeous wombo art as inspiration. For this, I especially referred to these two. The artworks supplement her amazing writing beautifully! They’re so vibrant and whimsical, and always make me smile. She made art for every one of the prompts for @microficmay, along with her stellar microfics. It was really fun to see both her literary and artistic interpretation of the prompts.

I was inspired by El’s Wolfstar pie art for the idea of a tangram. It’s such a cool and creative art medium, and I absolutely love how neatly and precisely they’re made. She made a really fun and adorable Drarry pie, too, that sounds so delicious from its description. Check it out here!
I thought of folding a frame to place the tangram in, to mimic a framed painting, after I read her amazing magical realism wolfstar AU:

It’s such a gripping story with a great concept! I was totally absorbed in the fic throughout, just like how viewers of Remus’ paintings are in his art. El’s evocative descriptions conjure a vivid picture of the paintings, as well as the thrilling action of the story as you read along.

Harry Potter, of all people, knows that life isn’t always fair. And no one gets to be happy all of the time. But surely there’s something more—something better—than a rubbish Ministry job, and a lonely old house, and that feeling that everyone out there is doing a better job of living than Harry is.
And it really doesn’t seem fair that Draco Malfoy is back in Harry’s life, all of a sudden, and even though he’s wandless, and living with Muggles, and making his mother cry with his lifestyle choices, he’s happy. So what's he doing right, that Harry isn’t?
Because things don’t really change, do they? And if Harry can’t be happy, he’ll settle for a good night’s sleep, some posh antiques, and the opportunity to find out what Malfoy has been up to for all these years.
And that’s what starts it all.
This is indeed one of my favourite fics, the fic that actually helped me out while mourning having left Ireland and introduced me to you. I can still feel my heart constricting while I read it. There are whole sentences that live in my brain from this fic. Reading you is always like watching a movie.
Monster Baby - this is a multiverse inner joke. I’m constantly sending inspo and shaking my cheerleading pom poms. You got this, Tackster!
“I felt like some proper tea.” - Between the Powerlines (M, 3261)
For Harry Potter, all roads eventually lead to Draco Malfoy.
Or: this is not an AU! It's just Harry and Draco meeting by chance in an imported food shop in Connecticut and going on a road trip together. Featuring motels, cacti, Americana, and a hefty dose of pining.
I feel like this fic hits something very deep inside me, this kind of feeling that pulls the heartstrings. I chose this quote as a joke, honestly, because: tea, tacky! Of course it would be tea! Unfortunately here, we all know they won’t be having any good Barry cuppa, it will probably be Tetley’s.
“Everyone fancied the vicar." - oopsie, Modern Love again, shame on me, as I love the fact that Reverend Andrew exists. Honestly, I could spend hours here going on about it. I won’t though, I think everyone already knows how I feel about this trope. lol
“Harry, I’m on your side.” - Relic Radiation (M, 927)
Draco goes into space, leaving behind his son Scorpius (who has just started at Hogwarts, at least), and his not-quite-boyfriend Harry Potter. But Harry can't stop loving Draco just because he's approximately 408km up, in constant orbit.
I’m a complete sucker for universes. My favourite films are about Space stories. So this fic was just very much a niche lovebomb for me. And I love your Harry being this side of jelly. The poor thing, let’s give him interspatial love.
The sky was a split plum, an aging bruise. - Oíche Shamhna (T, 1201)
The Celts believed that on Hallowe’en night, the boundary between our world and the other world is thin. So that's why Draco’s in their back garden, wearing his best cloak and stirring a cauldron.
A fic that feels like old magic, poetry and complicated feelings. My dearie peteen, incredible how you can pack small stories with the most beautiful images, with the most intense anticipation, with the careful touch of love story undertones and a tiny bit of eternal loving rivalry.

Int’l Tea Day 2021
Happy International Tea Day! So I did a smol thing cos after this exchange in the notes with @sitp-recs, I wanted to make something for her, and then I thought why not do a few more haha. So I've made customised tea bags for her and four other tea lovers — 3 of whom responded to this post, thank you :D The tea bags are based on the five people's favourite colours, recommended teas are based on their personalities and their work's vibes.
