A Simple Cave
Tumblr media
Published: 1-25-2024 | Updated: N/A SUMMARY Enjoy this simple cave, visible from both lot and hood view. One has an opening in front and the other has an opening in front and back (the latter is meant to be placed against a wall).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DETAILS Requires all EPs/SPs. §500 | Build > Architecture | 891-1050 poly There are TWO versions – one is repo’d to the Rock TXTR Repository from my Repository Pack (Simmons, 2023) and you’ll need that mesh. Version 2 (V2) is  repo’d to the Stone Super Set (Fractured Moonlight, 2017) and you’ll need the stone couch mesh from that collection. You can use both at the same time in-game. The cave has one subset and will NOT go down with walls.

I did a short interview for an alumni spotlight on the CCA website. You can click through but I'll also just copy my answers below the cut.
Maia Kobabe (e/em/eir) is a nonbinary/queer/trans author and illustrator, a voracious reader, a k-pop fan, and a daydreamer. You can learn an astonishing number of intimate details about em in Gender Queer: A Memoir and in eir other short comics, published by The New Yorker, The Nib, The Washington Post and in many print anthologies. Gender Queer won a Stonewall Honor and an Alex Award from the American Library Association in 2020. It was also the most challenged book in the United States in 2021 and 2022.
Maia shares more about eir life as a full-time artist and activist, fighting to protect diverse literature and the freedom to access information.
1. What is your current practice/business?
I am a full time cartoonist. My job consists of days working at home writing and drawing mixed with days speaking out against book banning and censorship, and in support of the freedom to read, the freedom to teach, and the freedom to access information. I spend a lot of time talking with other authors, teachers, and librarians about protecting diverse and queer books from the current wave of conservative attacks. The first piece I drew for the comics journalism site The Nib was about the rise of fascism in the United States; my later writing about queer, trans, and nonbinary identities has led me into consistently political territory.
2. Why did you choose CCA?
I chose CCA because I was looking for a MFA Comics program, of which there are very few, and I wanted to stay in the Bay Area. Because I'm a local, I was able to meet the majority of the MFA Comics faculty before I applied and felt immediately welcomed into their community. The fact that a majority of my professors for the first year of the program were queer was a huge draw as well.
3. If you could share one piece of advice with current or future students, what would it be?
Every single person has a story only they could tell. No matter what media you are working in, do your best to tell the story which is uniquely yours. If you aren't ready to tell it yet, just keep making art until the time to share that story arrives. No time spent creating is ever wasted.
4. What's your secret to staying inspired and creative?
I realized fairly early in life that my very favorite way to spend the day was drawing while listening to music, a podcast, or an audiobook. I like making things! I would rather be making things than doing almost anything else. I created a life in which I can spend a lot of time creating things and even if I don't particularly know what I am making, I am happy.
5. What do you have coming up?
My second book, Breathe: Journeys to Healthy Binding, written with Dr Sarah Pietzmeier, is coming out in May 2024 from Dutton. It's a nonfiction comic about chest binding as an aspect of trans healthcare. I'm currently drawing my third book, Saachi's Stories, written with Lucky Srikumar; it's due out from Scholastic Graphix in 2026. I am also working on adapting Gender Queer: A Memoir into an audiobook.

The spread of COVID-19 misinformation in Canada cost at least 2,800 lives and $300 million in hospital expenses over nine months of the pandemic, according to estimates in a new report out Thursday.
The report — released by the Council of Canadian Academies (CCA), an independent research organization that receives federal funding — examined how misinformation affected COVID infections, hospitalizations and deaths between March and November of 2021.
The authors suggest that misinformation contributed to over 2 million Canadians refusing to get a vaccine. Had more people been willing to roll up their sleeves when a vaccine was first available to them, Canada could have seen roughly 200,000 fewer COVID cases and 13,000 fewer hospitalizations, the report says. [...]
"It's pretty clear that tens of thousands of hospitalizations did occur because of misinformation," Himelfarb told reporters. "We are confident that those are conservative estimates."
Himelfarb also said the $300 million estimate covers only hospital costs — the study didn't include indirect costs associated with factors such as delayed elective surgeries and lost wages. [...]
Relying on survey information about people's COVID-19 beliefs from Abacus Data, the CCA estimated that over 2 million Canadians were influenced by misinformation based on a belief that the pandemic was a hoax or greatly exaggerated.

CCA Berlin presents the second iteration of its musical evening series Four Seasons in collaboration with the Zwölf-Apostel-Kirche (Twelve Apostles Church) on Kurfürstenstraße, featuring live sets by Stine Janvin* as well as Billy Bultheel with Max Murray and Weston Olencki.
Vocalist, performer and sound artist Stine Janvin works with the extensive flexibility of her voice in relation to visual elements such as costume and lighting, as well as audio spatialization and the ways in which this can be used to channel physicality of sound, tangibility and trigger sensory response. Often inspired by electronic music genres, folk music and pop culture, Janvin creates audio visual works and live performances for a variety of spaces such as theaters, clubs and art galleries, and more recently websites and digital platforms. Since spring 2021 she has been touring with her latest live project Echoic Choir, co-created with choreographer Ula Sickle, which premiered at Wiener Festwochen and was recently presented at MACBA Barcelona, Mattatoio in Rome, Venice Biennial opening week and MUNCH in Oslo. Janvin has recently presented works at Performa Telethon, New York; Issue Project Room, NYC; Rokolectiv, Bucharest; Kunsthall Stavanger and MUNCH, Oslo; and Chords for Calling presented by Deutschlandradio Kultur and Berliner Künstlerprogramm. In autumn 2022 she will release a new book in collaboration with artist Cory Arcangel on the Brooklyn based publisher Primary Information. At the Twelve-Apostles-Church, Janvin will play a new piece for voice, Pop Coloratura, featuring echo and synth samples and paying homage to some of Janvin’s favorite pop songstresses.

i have a feeling in my gut women talking is gonna get shut out of the oscars. the academy LOVE films where women suffer in sexy ways (.e.g. promising young woman, etc) and women talking is very very very much not that. they're gonna hate it. it's unrepentantly about men being the problem. i bet sarah polley won't even get a director nom.
i disagree with that PYW dig but women talking is still in the running for best adapted screenplay. it was long listed for the baftas and i believe is eligible for the WGA so if it can get noms for both, its oscar chances are stronger. it has a decent chance, frankly, of winning best adapted. she’s already won the CCA, and what real competition does she have? every other screenplay nominated for the globes was original (since they only have one category for screenplay) and we have yet to see the final films in competition for the bafta and for the wga. it would be an easy spot to avoid a shut out for female directed films AND they have awarded a female screenwriter at the oscars at both of the last shows (2021’s PYW and 2022’s coda). both were also newcomers and director-writers for their films. both films also had female protagonists

devour me slowly, devour me whole, forget all that is holy - you're not in control. crawl on your knees, bawl your eyes out, all to appease some earthly delight; the darkness in you - the absence of light, the lack of a god - no boundaries in sight, now watch all of your tears start to ignite.

WIP: NetworkMAT Add-Ons
Tumblr media
Published: 1-20-2024 | Updated: N/A SUMMARY The Network Materials (NetworkMAT) (Simmons, 2023) series includes assets for building modern road networks in Sims 2. Use these items to enhance your city’s streets, walkways, highways, skyways, bridges, and so on.
Tumblr media
It’s time to give those flat, boring streets some more flavor! Road defaults and overlays like my Streets of 2Morrow (2023) set or these – Neighborhood Reboot (CuriousB, 2012), Default Hood/Road Replacements (LordCrumps, YEAR), Ultimate Road Default Replacement V2 (Tvickiesims, 2022), Rural Charm (Criquette, 2018) – certainly add some flare. Still, I want to be able to do more elaborate streetscaping in my game. To that end, here are some previews of various networkMAT objects I hope to release in 2024. These items will require my Repo Pack (Simmons, 2023).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Instead of the 1-step foundations I initially planned, I’ll be using 2-step foundations for most buildings within my city, especially downtown areas. These pieces are designed for “extending” the sidewalk and foundations (at the default 4-step height) to the edge of the lot and in other directions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Depending on how you arrange them, they should give the illusion of a gutter/sewer system below. Of course, you could also make canals, elevated roads, tunnels, train tracks, and other structures too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There will be bridges, overpasses, trains, trams, subways, pedways, and more! I’ll be moving the car/pedestrian portals around so that sims/traffic pass through the lot in various places. I've already tested having traffic pass on a road 2-stories above ground and pedestrians entering the lot from an elevator on the 4th floor - it works!

Companion!AU* (an all human hub AU of humans dating monsters)
The AU hub* (same concept as above but people don’t have to hide their monsters inside and monsters are widely known and mostly accepted)
~Tale/Underscrawl (really old dilapidated AU that focuses on Soara)
Soulstole!AU (an old AU in which boss monsters have the human souls)
Mimic!Sans!AU (a project I am currently working on)
Dreamer!AU (the Error and Dream fusion AU I’m working on)
The Delta System!AU (not technically an AU, but a character group, @/bobateaboo has characters in it)
The Solar System!AU** (belongs to @/bobateaboo and I have two characters in it)
Skeleshifters* (half the characters are mine, half are @/bobateaboo’s)
CCA!AU (meant to stand for College, Crime, and Affairs, originally, just sounds nice in my head)
JATH/PATH!AU (joined at the hip/paired at the hip AU, focuses on a version of Nightmare that never left his Dream)
Crayons (an AU focused on Frisk coming back to the surface without being able to free the monsters yet and how they perceive their experience after coming back, trying to find a way to help their friends)
*this means the AU belongs to @bobateaboo as well as myself
Also I am very aware that so many AUs are missing, I just cannot think of them all at the moment-
