These ceiba trees (Ceiba pentandra). called the kapok or silk-cotton tree in English, were seen on the eastern slope of Cerro Jaboncillo near Portoviejo, Ecuador. In South America the tree plays a role in pre-Hispanic mythologies.

September 15 was the day that El Salvador celebrates its independence. The Act of Independence of Central America was signed in Guatemala City in 1821, bringing in the other Central American countries of Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. Mountains and flat plains characterise El Salvador, a country in Central America that receives an abundance of precipitation. Flor de izote, or the yucca flower blossom, is widely recognised as the country's official flower. Playa Popoyo, Playa El Sunzal, and Playa El Tunco are just a few of El Salvador's renowned beaches. El 15 de septiembre El Salvador celebro su independencia. El Acta de Independencia de Centroamérica se firmó en la ciudad de Guatemala en 1821, incorporando a los otros países centroamericanos de Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua y Costa Rica.
