#celebrimbor: feanor was a mistake

I like to think that, much as Aral Vorkosigan of the Vorkosigan Saga gives a yearly lecture to military academy students on honor and when it’s important and required to disobey illegal orders, sometime starting in the Third Age, returned!Celebrimbor gives a lecture once a decade or so to apprentices of every craft on What Not To Do in Sub-Creation. It consists mostly of these slides:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sometimes someone raises their hand on slide 1 and asks, “Didn’t you die shortly after the creation of the Three Rings?” “Study your history more closely!” Celebrimbor says. “Yes, I did, but for mostly unrelated reasons which we’ll address in a couple slides.” Usually someone raises their hand later and asks, “Does that mean, logically, it is also a bad idea to create something whose destruction removes your future creative ability?” “Good logic!” Celebrimbor answers. “Yes, it does - though I know of no illustrative examples of that...yet. If it’s possible to do, I’m sure I’ll find out eventually, and return (perhaps from Mandos) to add it to this lecture.”

Ironically enough, just like most people struggle to differentiate between all the silm characters that basically have the same name, I have lot of struggle with silm fanart, because a lot of the characters look the same.
I'll just be mindlessly scrolling and then Boom! Guy with pointy ears and gold hair!
And initially, I went: "LEGOLAS" :D
But then I see the tags/post words and its Glorfindel.
And then I see another post with a guy with pointy ears and Gold hair and go:
"GLORFINDEL!" :D
And then its Finrod.
And I'll see fanart of another guy with gold hair/pointy ears and go:
Is this Finrod, Glorfindel or Legolas?
And then its Sauron.
And then I see a red head with pointy ears and glowing eyes and in relief go: Oh, Maedhros, my beloved ❤
And then its Sauron again. And sometimes its Maedhros. But its never the one I initially thought it would be.
And this happens to all the Silm characters for me, except of course for Varda and Feanor.
Feanor is always drawn very distinctively. There is no mistaking Feanor for Celebrimbor or Maglor or any other dark hair pointy eared guy with glowing eyes. He is (Rightly!) always drawn with a level of extreme intensity to him that the other characters lack, even if they have an intensity of their own.
(Don't get me wrong tho, I adore all Silm art. This is not me complaining.)

Hi!
May I please request a reaction for Feanorian reactions to their S/O wearing their clothes?
Thanks a lot!
Really appreciate you opening up reactions again :)
House of Feanor — S/O Wearing Their Clothes
Tumblr media
...they stare with ADORATION. How can anyone appear so adorable wearing their drowning oversized clothes? They wouldn’t intervene or anything of the sort, just watch from a distance while you waddle around the house with their shirt which required rolling up around the sleeves for you to use your hands. Leaning against the doorframe while you busy yourself in the kitchen prepping breakfast or lunch, they’ll just grin and shake their heads at your cute antics.
Maedhros, Maglor, Caranthir, Amrod, Amras, Celebrimbor
Tumblr media
...they are TURNED ON. The minute you enter their vision wearing their apparel, hunger grows from deep within and the only urge they have is to take it off and have their way. Their clothes on your body accentuate your figure, making you appear all the more desirable in their eyes. Like a puppy, they’ll follow you around the house until you are corned before making their moves and whispering about you being a natural tease, knowing what you were doing to them.
Feanor, Celegorm, Caranthir, Curufin, Amrod, Amras
Tumblr media
...they tease your SIZE DIFFERENCE. It’s no mistake that you are smaller than these elves by a massive amount, so teasing you is mandatory. It grows when you make the decision to wear their garb one day, assuming that they would marvel at your cuteness, but instead, they taunt your height and size difference more. Small pats to your head and squatting down to meet you at eye level to point out how their shirt fits you like an oversize nightgown. Hence, a few might go as far as to lift you just to watch their shirt fall past your feet and hang while laughing.
Maedhros, Celegorm, Amrod, Amras

End of Year Fics
Tagged by @swanmaids and @polutrope
Recommend up to 5 series or multi-chapter fics from 2023 that everyone should read (multi-year WIPs count, if the last update was in 2023).
Recommend up to 5 single chapter fics/one-shots (long or short) from 2023 that everyone should read.
Recommend up to 5 fics NOT from 2023 that everyone should read (oldies but goodies).
Recommend up to 5 of your own fics (completed or WIP) from 2023 that everyone should read.
I'm so sorry to tumblr-only posters but this is limited to things on AO3 because I do not have the time or energy to comb through my tumblr fanfic tag for the last year.
This was hard (┬┬﹏┬┬)
5 Multichapter fics
A Light Burns in the Forest by fictional_hr_department - T - Heartbreaking close-up of the Second Kinslaying.
The Stone City by earthbound_misfit - T - This fic creates such interesting relationships between Maeglin and his family in Gondolin where they're almost poised to be healthy and happy, but he tips the scales the other way.
Opening by @meadowlarkx - T - Finrod/Sauron - I'm counting this as multichapter. Lark creates such an intensely compelling push and pull of power between these characters that you cannot look away.
As Flowers from the Sky by Beleriand Death Trip - E - Fingolfin/Thingol - Sex counts as diplomacy, right?
A King is He That Can Hold his Own by iddump - E - Maedhros/Thingol - The dynamic is soooo good and the sex is soooo hot.
5 Oneshots
The Salt in the Wound by @swanmaids - E - Curufin's wife/Luthien - Fuck yeah, toxic yuri. I have been obsessed with their dynamic since Heather first proposed this ship and enthralled I remain.
Less Wise by @meadowlarkx - E - Maglor/Thranduil - I literally cannot say anything coherent about this fic; I am twitching on the floor about it as we speak. MUST read.
Elwing's Strategy by lifeisyetfair - T - Characterizations of Maedhros and Elwing in this are SO fucking fantastic.
Prick a Finger, Cut Your Hand by @welcomingdisaster - E - Indis/Miriel - Lena is a femslash queen of this fandom and this messy Mindis relationship is so compelling.
Angels Would Not Condescend by crownlessliestheking - G - GOD everything about this fic is just masterfully done. It's so tasty. Feanor uses math to blaspheme.
5 Oldies but Goodies
Ear to the Ground, Eye to the Sky by allthegoodnamesaretakendammit - E - Thorin/Thranduil - Masterful retelling of The Hobbit with Thorin trying to avoid the mistakes he's foreseen himself making.
The Other Things We Never Knew About Frodo's Soulmate - T - Frodo/Sauron - Look just trust me. It's so worth it.
Little Tenderness by batshape - E - Feanor/Nerdanel - I know I've recced this before but this author gets their dynamic SO well and so beautifully.
Speak, Friend, and Enter by Lady_Gavroche - E - Celebrimbor/Narvi - This one is just so cute and I love this portrayal of Celebrimbor <3
You Are Coming Down with Me by TheLionInMyBed - T - Fucking crunchy tasty look at Kindap Fam; probably my favorite fic for them.
5 Self-recs
A Cup Always Half-Empty - M - Maglor/Thranduil - Maglor wishes he could want less.
Extinguished - M - Nerdanel had hoped to beat Feanor to Formenos, but she came too late.
One Last Song - T - As Luthien prepares to surrender to old age, she is visited by a long-lost friend.
What the Water Gave Me - T - Finduilas/Nienor - Finduilas had never thought she had been saved for a reason, until she found the woman in the river.
Maedhros' Good Report Card - E - Maedhros/Thingol - Maedhros gets a reward for a job well done.

Silmarillion as Hamilton songs prt 2
Wait For It: All of them really if I’m honest. Particularly the sons of Feanor and Galadriel. I feel like particularly Galadriel, Maglor and Maedhros. ‘Love doesn’t discriminate,’ is Maedhros and Fingon. ‘When they died they left no instructions. Only a legacy to protect,’ pure sons of Feanor. ‘And if there’s a reason I’m still alive when everyone who loves me has died,’ is Galadriel and Maglor. ‘And so you survive so goddamn it I’m willing to wait for it’ that’s Galadriel. ‘Life doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints,’ the silmarillion in a nutshell.
Your Obedient Servant: It’s got to be Feanor and Fingolfin right? It’s just so passive aggressive. ‘Here’s an itemised list of thirty years of disagreement,’ ‘Sweet Jesus.’ It just fits so well.
That would be enough: Fingon to Maedhros, ‘the fact that you’re alive is a miracle, just stay alive that would be enough,’ ‘but I’m not afraid I know who I married, so long as you come home at the end of the day that would be enough.’ Also possibly Caranthir to Haleth ‘Let me be a part of the narrative, in the story they will write someday. Let this moment be the first chapter, where you decided to stay, and I could be enough.’
A Winter’s Ball: Celegorm and Finrod, ‘But what do we have in common, we’re reliable with the ladies!’
Yorktown: The end of the War of Wrath. Starring Gil Galad, Galadriel, Finarfin, Elros, Elrond, and Celebrimbor. Pretty self explanatory.
Meet Me Inside: Maedhros and the three Cs. Either to Caranthir after the Angrod incident or Celegorm and Curufin after Nargothrond. It just seems hilarious, like the whole chorus going ‘well they’re screwed,’ in the background. And the idea that he just keeps referring to them by childhood endearments the whole time… so funny.
History Has It’s Eyes On You: Celebrimbor to Elrond. Just the idea of not making the same mistakes and that he knows how distorted things can become when your family are the villains of every popular narrative, where all your actions can be interpreted as proof of that. From one person raised by kinslayers to another it just seems to fit really well, with the idea that Elrond escaped being written off as Doomed by the Narrative where Celebrimbor himself couldn’t.
What’d I Miss: Finarfin. Not that I think he’s a Jefferson it just sort of fits, you know with him missing most of the First Age and just turning up for the end.
Washington on Your Side: The Noldor to the Sindar. ‘It must be nice, it must be nice having a Maia on your side,’ you know cause everyone and the narrative is against them.
I Know Him: Morgoth to just the Eldar in general mainly because of these lines ‘are they going to keep on replacing whoever’s in charge,’ and particularly ‘They will tear each other into pieces, Jesus Christ this will be fun!’ Also maybe the Feanorians about Dior because he’s like a child in their eyes.

As far as Celebrimbor could see, the problem with the Silmarils hadn't been that everyone wanted to steal them. That was inherent in making any object of power worth the name.
The problem was that the Silmarils could be stolen. Feanor wore them or set them down in a vault as he pleased, and then it was a simple matter for someone to pick them up. Celebrimbor would not make that mistake.
Celebrimbor made three rings and told no one. He had made lesser rings before but these would be his great work, the type of thing which could only be made once. They said that the Silmarils held part of Feanor's spirit and reflected the bliss of Valinor; Celebrimbor would do one better.
The Three rings would channel Celebrimbor's spirit and magnify it, allowing him power he could never reach unaided. He had designed rings for men and dwarves before, and the Three looked superficially similar. They were ring designed for elves, made by an elf, worn by an elf, but more than that the Three were the rings of elves. They channeled beauty and resilience, arrogance and grandeur, lasting for all the ages of the world. The echoes reached out to every elf in Ost-in-Edhil, reminding them that Arda was their inheritance, to shape and cherish and rule. As long as Celebrimbor believed in the strength of his people, they would have it.
As for theft, that had been a simple matter to solve, though far from painless. The Three were made of Celebrimbor's soul, but they became part of of his flesh as well.
Celebrimbor had done much of the forging normally, setting the gems and singing songs of power until the metal seemed to glow with purpose. Each future ring was only a curved bar though, the end unjoined and sharp. They were not complete, and would unravel in a matter of weeks if not finished.
When the enchantment for Narya was missing only the last step, Celebrimbor went down to the forge and heated it once more, letting the metal grow soft enough to bend without letting it loose any symmetry. Then he stabbed it into his body, binding its power to him forever. He nearly screamed in pain as his flesh sizzled, but that was why he hard started with the ring of flame. Celebrimbor did not die, and carefully bent the ring closed and melted the ends together. Then he ducked his whole body into the water barrel to quench the ring, letting himself drift in pain for a few moments before coming up for air.
Narya, the ring of fire, he placed near his heart. Vilya was next, mirroring it and close to his lungs, the ring of air moving with his every breath. Nenya was last, and most difficult. He had been able to see hi own chest when completing VIlya and Narya, but Nenya would go in his tongue, so each sip of water would be blessed by his own creation. Celebrimbor drew on Narya's power to withstand the flame, and Vilya's to keep from drowning as he quenched the final point.
Celebrimbor locked himself in the forge for three days to finish the Three, and at the end there was no other elven work as great.

Celebrimbor headcanon
Celebrimbor is a character that was rarely mentioned (only having 2 real appearances: 1 when he denounces his father in Nargothrond; and 2: when he forges the rings of power).
What if the reason was that unless explicitly told, few were able to connect Celebrimbor to the might of house Feanor?
It's established that Feanor married Nerdenal despite the popular consensus that he could do better. But what if Curufin did the same? Just like his father, he was a skilled smith, so it's possible that like his father he was attracted more to skill than beauty.
This brings me to Curufin's wife who was, by elvish standards, rather plain and unassuming but was the most skilled silversmith that Curufin ever met. It was her talent and her personality that led him to marry her and had nothing to do with her average appearance.
Celebrimbor, their son, took more after his mother in appearance and so has very little visual connection to Feanor or his sons. This led him to be overlooked all through history except in the particular instances where his family lineage mattered (name his action concerning his father and when his ambition led him to a similar mistake as his grandfather).

Hair darker than the night
Tumblr media
(Excuse the bad gif. I coulnd’t find anything better. This might be a bit short, but i hope you like it,)
Requested by anonymous
Warnings;none
-------------------------------------------------------------------
You were one of the maiars of Varda. You had a great love for the stars and the music, and you adored serving your lady with your close friend Ilmare.
Lately, you have started attracting the attention of some elves, or your hair has.
You had a beautiful long lock of dark hair. It was dark but captured light which made it look like you had a starry sky in your hair.
You took great pride over your hair, so you felt flattered some elves found beauty in it when most would prefer white and bright colors. ¨
Feanor
-The Noldor prince found great beauty in your dark hair when his eyes fell upon you.
-It was beautifully dark and peculiarly captured light that it looked like there were distant stars in your locks. It was even beautiful when it was pitch black.
-Beautifull things enthrall him, so he made the mistake of touching your hair without your permission.
-You faced him, brushed his hand away, and told him it was not polite to touch someone without their acknowledgment.
-Feanor would apologize but then tell how beautiful your hair was, and new inspiration had grazed his mind.
-He then dared to request strings of hair from your locks.
-You laughed, calling him a peculiar elf boy, and asked why you should abide by such a request.
-You're not going to give anything without receiving something in return, so he has to impress you first.
-He accepted, taking it as a challenge. You were curious, so you gave him one string of your hair, eager to see what he would make out of it.
-The little prince returned after some time and presented you with a beautiful piece of jewelry.
-A silver necklace with beautiful black stones that manage to reflect the shimmers of the stars.
-Feanor acquired a rare stone called obsidian and worked hard to capture the beauty of the night in it, inspired by your hair.
-It was unusual to use dark-colored stones in jewelry, but Feanor managed to capture the beauty in them, so you were charmed by the piece.
-He gave it to you as a gift of gratitude for lending the piece of hair and inspiring him even more.
-It became one of your favorite jewelry, and you proudly wore it on special occasions, which makes Feanor proud of himself.
Celebrimbor
-Like his proud grandfather, the young elf boy found beauty in your dark hair.
-Many would prefer the bright and white colors of the night, but there was something in the dark that was very hypnotic to him.
-He followed his grandfather's example but didn't ask for strings of hair. He borrowed some obsidian stones and created a tiny bracelet he thought you might like.
-He didn't know how to capture light into the stones, so they looked like black pearls.
-He was scared and shy to approach you because he thought you might not like it.
-However, you were charmed by the little elf boy child and loved the little gift. You had a thing for unusual things, so you adored the black pearled bracelets and started wearing them daily.
-Celebrimbor was very happy.
-But since he gave you such a lovely gift, you couldn't help but wish to give him something back in return, so you gave him rare stones of starlight from lord Irmo's garden, and the little boy was just fascinated with them.
Fingolfin
-At first, Fingolfin meant to stop Feanor from doing anything foolish like he once did with Finarfin's daughter when he asked for strands of her hair.
-Angering a maiar would have been worse than angering his prideful niece.
-He was glad nothing drastic happened and was surprised you accepted Feanor's request until he heard you challenged Feanor to impress you.
-He was hypnotized by your beauty and held respect when you turned your eyes upon him.
-You were intimidating, for you stood taller than him and Feanor, and the darkness of your hair, truly made you a black beauty.
-You were intrigued by the second son of Finwe and found amusement when conversing with him.
-It was easy to fluster him by describing how his dark hair was also beautiful, and his eyes captured the light of stars.
-It was a pity Feanor took no inspiration from him.
Galadriel
-You had a few pleasantries meeting the young daughter of prince Finarfin.
-She was indeed beautiful and bright like her people claimed so.
-You were fascinated by her, especially when you knew about the funny incident when Feanor requested strings from her hair, and she outright refused him.
-You were opposites which made you even more interested in her. She was bright as a day while you were dark as the night.
-You both held equal respect for each other, and conversing with her was pleasant.
-She did judge you for accepting Feanor's request for your hair but did find the piece of jewelry he made beautiful in its way.
-You did like Feanor's little gift, but your favorite was the bracelet his grandson made for you, and Galadriel agreed.

Okay so it turns out I have a lot of opinions about how rings of power are treating Celebrimbor.
We all know that the age and the crushed velvet curtain gown is wrong and upsetting visually, but it actually ties into something that I think is a symptom of a fundamental misunderstanding of Celebrimbor as a person and his narrative role.
Celebrimbor's story is a tragedy, not in the way that his father and grandfather's story is a tragedy, because they were bound up in the consequences of their own bad decisions, but because Celebrimbor wants to do good.
He wants to restore, to preserve, to undo the marring of Arda and his own family's terrible impact. Instead of being suspicious like Feanor, he is trusting; of the dwarves, of Annatar. Instead of being exclusionary and driving all good people away like Curufin, he shares his knowledge and works with the dwarves in friendship.
Celebrimbor is a symbol of youthful idealism, of the hope of new generations. Celebrimbor knows his legacy is grand, but he uses it to make gateways and forge bonds, not wage war.
The terrible tragedy of Celebrimbor's story is that he trusted too much. That even when he tried to be something good, it wasn't enough.
It was a mistake not to make Celebrimbor the main character in the series and it was a mistake to make him seem like an old, awkward specialist on the sidelines, while Elrond gets the bulk of his footwork in season 1.
It erodes Celebrimbor as a narrative symbol in a way I don't think they can recover.

"Why are you being a killjoy, let people enjoy rings of power?"
Nope. Just nope. I genuinely think that would be a mistake. This isn't just about some random show or YA nov - it's about a series that defined fantasy books for the last 70 years! It's about an author who spent decades clarifying his books and making bloodlines and timelines coherent! It's about his son, a man who spent his entire life going over his late father's work to give us the silmarilians and other works and the published letters! It's about a group of people, who while they weren't perfect or even completely right, spent a decade of their lives trying to faithfully adapt the aforementioned peoples' work.
It's about a greedy, soulless corporation turning this seminal piece of literature into yet another random tv show (wasn't the Wheel of Time and Chronicles of Shannara enough for you ghouls?). It's about them not giving two figs about anything when the creator spent decades getting things right!! Why could Gil-galad's clothes have been silver? Would it have been so hard to get an age appropriate Celebrimbor? Why give male elves short hair and make female dwarves beardless? Why does Galadriel wear the star of Feanor when she disliked him the whole time?? Why does Finrod called her 'Galadriel' instead of Artanis back in Valinor, before Celeborn even gave her the name? Why do Gil-galad, Elrond and Celebrimbor treat Galadriel like she's younger/less experienced than them??? She's literally their aunt/great aunt, great great aunt and aunt!
These aren't conscious changes due to lack of screentime (like PJ made), they're just careless!!! And unlike Peter Jackson, who admitted to changing things, apologised and explained why, no one knows if the show writers even know they're wrong or if they even bothered to read the books!
And what's up with the fake wokeness? People keep trying to dismiss anti-rop complaints saying using PoC is an improvement, and I agree completely! I haven't seen a single post on Tumblr complaining about the race-bending, but every other defense post mentions it! Personally, I'd prefer all black or all asian elves if they'd just give them long, correctly coloured hair (a characteristic that ACTUALLY matters, unlike skin colour).
Also, Amazon's not being progressive at all? Like, Tolkien mentioned multiple times that male and female elves were physically equals - but the armies are all male. Male elves can be old instead of ageless, but the women are young and hot? Male elves have short hair and female dwarves don't have beards? How is that not just playing into gender stereotypes? The female character is inexperienced and is treated condescendingly by the male ones DESPITE THAT NEVER HAPPENING IN THE BOOKS! Galadriel fighting physically is shown as empowering vs her canon strength being wisdom and magical strength (more female coded). The hobbits have Irish accents and the elves British? Way to tick off every cliche in the book.
Everything Tolkien's ever written suggests that he would hate this! He thought Sameness and lack of originality/creativity was the difference between elvish and orc-language!
What happened to ownership and intellectual privacy? In a world where corporations can remove days of television and lifetimes of animators' work for tax benefits, where do we make a stand and say enough is enough, we won't let you destroy another unique piece of work you NEVER could have created. Art is not about making a quick buck!
And it's not just about Tolkien. It's about the swarths of awful new tv show, generic books and soulless comics being churned out by a gigantic machine that steals artists' work and underpays labourers.
And what better opportunity will we have to make a stand? There's a billion dollars at stake! Let's MAKE corporations respect us!

Celebrimbor Ex-Feanorian, An AU (1/4)
From this post (Feanor and Curufin are very much NOT good dads in this AU)
Curufin is trans and married to Finrod. They have Celebrimbor, who has silver hair.
As Feanor grows more and more paranoid, their relationship frays.
Celebrimbor follows his family to Alqualonde after the silmarils are stolen, where Finrod has taken him a couple times.
He's nearly killed when a few of the Noldor mistake him as a Teler because of his silver hair. Curufin protects him.
After most of the fighting is over, Feanor finds the two of them. Celebrimbor is shaking, hiding behind a statue and clearly still scared to death.
Feanor orders Curufin to follow him, and leave Celebrimbor behind because he's too young and he has teleri blood, so he's not trustworthy. Which is so not a thing to say to a young child. Celebrimbor starts begging to come too.
Curufin sighs and gives him a dagger. He tells him to stab anything that moves and to find family elsewhere. He and Feanor head toward the ships, toward the others.
Celebrimbor sits on the dock and cries, long after they've taken the boats elsewhere.
The Arafinweans arrive, and Finrod finds him. Celebrimbor flings himself into Finrod's arms and Finrod holds him.
Finrod takes Celebrimbor back to the palace in Alqualonde, where the Arafinweans are, and Celebrimbor tells him what happened.
Finrod is furious. He tells Curufin that he'll break his bones and then breaks their marriage bond.
Finrod decides to go to Middle-earth, eager to explore and to rain terror down upon the Feanorians for abandoning Celebrimbor.

2, 3, 7?
2. a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom i did 2 over here! but now since i've done two characters who i think don't bottom often, i'll do two characters that i don't think top often. again this is with the disclaimer that i tend to prefer switchy dynamics for all my ships. sooo. turgon is such a control freak in life that i think he might enjoy just laying back and getting taken care of in the bedroom (god knows he won't let this happen anywhere else). i think he'd feel a "duty" to perform at first, but if you put him with a partner that likes to make all the decisions he'd be so very relieved to fall into that dynamic in the bedroom. also for whatever reason i think finrod and amarie are this:
Tumblr media
don't ask me why it's just vibes
3. screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr
okay big disclaimer on this that everyone has different takes and what makes me very annoyed has a right to exist in fandom. no hate intended towards the takes and people i mention, should they somehow see this. that said i AM choosing violence tonight
i see a lot of takes i dislike but only one. has made me so mad that i immediately left my house and walked five miles out of sheer frustration. and it was this, as far as i recall, their logic: "sauron killed celebrimbor before celebrimbor gave him the information he was really looking for (location of the three rings). sauron is the master of torture, and this was kind of a pretty big torture fuck-up. thus, sauron was not at his best when torturing celebrimbor, and killed him too rashly out of anger. this is later backed up by the way he treated his body. thus, celebrimbor must have done something particularly heinous to sauron. in fact, it was celebrimbor taking advantage of sauron all along. this means that feanor must have seen maiar serving in aule's forges and decided maiar were some kind of servant class, which led to celebrimbor inheriting those beliefs and being creepybadevil at sauron when they worked together" i don't think i need to dissect this take to explain how much it pissed me off. but i WILL say i am genuinely impressed with this user for managing to victim blame the victim of a crucifixion.
also i would like to say that sauron is such a cringefail loser (affectionate?) that we should be surprised about him fucking up torture. guy got beaten by a big dog & also made the mistake of killing finrod before learning anything important from him
again no hate to the user. people have drastically different takes & headcanons and favorites but god. that one got me. it really did get me.
honorable mentions go to:
that one theory i saw that someone managed to blame almost exclusively women (indis, nerdanel, and yavanna) for the conflict of the silmarils
the person who said child!fingolfin should have been a better brother if he wanted feanor to like him. this one loses "bad take" points for being the funniest fucking thing i've ever read
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
hmmm i actually think i've mostly gone the other way around? i think i mostly tend to like characters more than i did coming into fandom. that being said i weirdly don't like erestor. something about him idk
i also used to like sauron a lot more than i do now. now i'm very sauron-cautious. some of the coolest fanart and fanfic in fandom involves him and i don't wanna dismiss that, i definitely enjoy reading about him, but for some reason he's the character the MOST likely to make me click out of a fic if he feels "off" to me

I feel like Idril convincing Turgon to let Celebrimbor stay in Gondolin would be such a powerful story.
Imagine...
Celebrimbor just disowns his family and now he's confused where to go... he might be unwelcome at Nargothrond after everything his dad and uncle did despite the fact he was close to Finrod, the now dead king.
He eventually remembers Aredhel once gave Curufin & Celegorm the location of Gondolin so they can visit her, as her brother wasn't letting her go anywhere.
Maybe, just maybe, his father's cousin who he once used to affectionately call aunt will let him stay with her for a bit until he sorts everything out.
He tracks down the City, but he is obviously not permitted entry.
Idril soon hears word that her second cousin came by, asking about Aredhel.
They may not have talked since the whole "Feanor's deserting of the Noldor" incident that lead to great tragedy in her life and the lives of those dear to her but Tyelpe was her friend as a child, and she had only ever heard good things about the person he grew up to be. Maybe at the very least, she could inform him of Aredhel's current missing status.
She sends a guard to scout around and check if Celebrimbor is still nearby.
Fortunately he is, and Celebrimbor is brought to the gate so Idril can talk to him. Celebrimbor tells his story at her request and Idril then informs him about Aredhel but she tells him to wait a bit and that she'll see if there is anything she can do for him.
She brings Celebrimbor's situation to Turgon's attention. Her dad is definitely not sold on letting a Feanorian stay in his City.
He's rightfully angry at them for a lot (including but not limited to Elenwe, Argon, and Finrod's deaths), and he'd question why Idril isn't. Shouldn't she be angry too for what they did to her family? What took her mom?
Of course Idril wouldn't forgive Feanor, nor would she expect her dad or anyone else too and of course after everything he did, Idril would be angry at Feanor. Feanor hurt her family, starting with her grandfather simply because he felt Indis hurt him.
Idril, in a way, knows Feanor's pain, the pain of loosing your mother better than any other elf and she wouldn't let her father make Feanor's mistake.
Celebrimbor is not Feanor and therefore should not be punished for what Feanor did just as Feanor should not have treated Indis's descendants the way he did because they didn't do anything to him.
Idril telling Turgon Celebrimbor's story also helps her case, given Celebrimbor disowned his family over Finrod, Turgon's canonical bestie's death.

ok, Mina, I need to ask for your lovely incredible reactions that make my days brighter, happier and beautiful! This is way better than my therapy sessions!
So imagine like in those kdrama scenes where the female lead accidentally bumps into the male lead and falls on top of them, ending up kissing them by mistake. What you do think the elves would do to this? If you have watched business proposal you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Therapy session 👁👄👁 baby are you alright?
Heaven has blessed them and their day is suddenly brighter. There is nothing that can go wrong or ruin their day now that they've gotta an extra accidental kiss. The type to pull you in for an extra deeper kiss claiming that it's a good luck charm before releasing you off them. "One more please sweetheart....for good luck..."
- FEANOR, CELEGORM, Amrod, Amras, FINGON, FINROD, Aegnor, GLORFINDEL, EGALMOTH, ELLADAN
Freezes and completely shuts down. Not overly one for PDA so it takes them off guard by a lot. Takes them a while to function before politely removing you off them and apologizing as if it were their fault for you crashing into them. If you look closely, there's a faint blush on their cheeks as they stutter out an apology and warning, "I'm sorry for crashing into you my dear, b-but do be careful. Quite slippery around here..."
- MAEDHROS, Maglor, CARANTHIR, CELEBRIMBOR, TURGON, ARGON, FINARFIN, ECTHELION, ROG, ELROHIR

Full speculation/headcanon on Tyelpe because he's such an interesting character, though I agree that he would not want to be associated with them anymore, I find his actions later in the second age fascinating because he did carve the feanorian symbol on the doors of Durin which to me meant he still associates himself with his house but perhaps the different kind? The good parts, the good memory of them when they were still the noble people of Noldor, you know? And I guess that was his way of healing? Giving them a second chance (maybe?) or remembering what used to be? Until Annatar happened. His betrayal and Eregion's fall as well as the creation of the ring would be the nail to the coffin for Tyelpe not to trust nor give any second chance anymore. Consequently, at his rebirth, I genuinely agree that he wouldn't want them in his life anymore, as harsh as it sounds, Tyelpe's an adult, a lord of a city, and his uncles are adults, not children who need to be coddled so if he doesn't want to be associated with them, it's justified and understandable. Honestly, though, I find it hard to imagine the feanorians and their followers being remorseful of their actions, I don't think sorry is in their vocabulary (kidding).
It is interesting to explore his use of the Feanorian star! I think there are a lot of possibilities for why he continues to use the symbol of the house of Feanor. These are the first few that come to mind for me:
i. He still considers himself Feanorian in spite of his complicated relationship with his father and uncles (and potentially his grandfather as well)
ii. He uses it in memory of the good that came of his house
iii. He wants to redeem his house and so is trying to associate the symbol with his own good works
iv. Possibly a form of rebellion? He no longer associates with his father but he won't let that stop him from using the family symbol
v. Tolkien included the star of Feanor on the Doors of Durin before he decided that Celebrimbor broke with his family and never went back to remove it. (Setting this one aside as the Doylist explanation)
And it could absolutely be a mix of things.
I'm sure I've talked about this before here but my own take on Celebrimbor and Annatar isn't that Celebrimbor was so foolish he had no idea Annatar was strange. It's that he saw what suspicion and paranoia and mistrust led his family to, and so he was really trying to do better and suppress the instinctive distrust of Annatar until he had some proof that satisfied him as being worth his suspicion. The result was that he trusted someone who he absolutely should not have, and ignored the red flags that popped up in his mind. And that is crushing </3 (which is exactly why it's tasty)
I think there is regret in the Feanorians for what they did, and certainly if they were ever reborn I don't think that could happen without some measure of acknowledging their mistakes and such. Aside from Celegorm and Curufin's actions in "Beren and Luthien," they never seem to take pleasure in their violence, but it is still done, of course. My general take is that they view it as a "necessary evil" to complete their goals, but I do think a long stint in Mandos would be able to make them see their actions with more objectivity. However, even if they fell on their knees about it, that doesn't oblige Celebrimbor to have a relationship with them.
I think Curufin could certainly come to regret the break with Celebrimbor, and perhaps Celegorm and whichever other uncles you might imagine he was close with, but I don't think they'd be incapable of understanding his decision (if he went limited/no-contact). There are, after all, probably a lot of people who no longer want to associate with the sons of Feanor or their followers.

No, wait, actually. I think I have an origin story for Ambarussa. Baby Celebrimbor calls Feanor dad by mistake and Feanor's brain lights up with "Oh my god oh my god Nerdanel I want another kid I forgot they were so cute" and Nerdanel, who is not at all upset that Celebrimbor will never call her mom (or so she will claim under torture), is like "YEAH THAT'S A GREAT IDEA"
