There’s no thought process. No planning. Just an instinctual reaction that possibly reveals more about Stiles than he’s really willing to reflect on right now. The clearing echoes with a crash of noise and a blinding flash of white light. For a moment it seems as though the witch has called lightning from the sky, and Stiles only has a moment to realize that this is how he dies.

July is a rainy month here in the mountains, but these fics felt like a ray of sunshine! I’m back with another favorites list, and very proud that I remembered to do this. Let’s go!

A Savior’s Guide to Manners and Decorum - E, 13k by @wolfpants

I think putting Draco Malfoy in any sort of teaching position is a recipe for perfection. So, that was a major factor in my enjoyment of this fic. Everything I’ve read from wolfpants has been incredible (I read Nightcall at least twice a month), and this did NOT disappoint. If you like a bumbling Harry with obscure hobbies, this is the fic for you.

Little Compton Street (One Rainy Night In Soho) - E, 65k by @writcraft and @celilasart for Harry/Draco Big Bang 2018

I saw this fic recommended left and right on the Drarry writers discord, and it’s been sitting in my marked for later forever. And, boy, do I wish I’d read it earlier. The art is BEAUTIFUL. I stared at it for about ten minutes. I’m a sucker for two lost souls finding their calm together in the eye of the storm, and I’ve been yearning for another fic that explores queer history as it pertains to the magical world. In conclusion, this was everything I needed. A rainy night for a rainy season.

Grounds For Divorce - E, 122k by @tepre

This is another one of those fics that I’ve seen recommended everywhere but just hadn’t gotten to yet. Fics that cover long periods of time hold a special place in my heart, and the journey I got to experience while reading this left me breathless by the time I was finished. I can’t wait to read it again.

Up The - E, 7k by @shiftylinguini

I’m not a big mpreg reader, not for any particular reason, but this fic was so sweet. The premise was hilarious and ridiculously fitting for these two. Love an established relationship, love a nutty plan to get pregnant. Loved it.

Faint Indirections - T, 29k by ignatiustrout

It’s so fun whenever I get to explore a new city with this pair. God, this was so fucking hilarious. Watching these two communicate in the least efficient way possible tickled me and I will be thinking about this fic for a very long time.

This was just the sweetest thing I’ve read in a very long time. The intimacy, the characterization. How the author managed to pack so much beauty into 10k words is a mystery that I thank god for every day.

As I said before, I love getting to explore a city with these two, and watching Harry find himself with a Draco who has built a life for himself is something I will never get sick of. Especially when every bit of it is absolutely baffling for Harry. So excited to find out who wrote this. I enjoyed every second of it. (Should’ve known it was wolfpants! So, so good!)

Draco, pregnant and on the run from his criminal ex-boyfriend, takes shelter under Auror Harry Potter’s protection. Sparks fly between the two, but Harry discovers that Draco is used to receiving love and affection with very specific conditions. Summary: He arrives on a boat during a particularly stormy day. Harry knew Astoria Greengrass had sent for a husband, someone to keep her company on the particularly dreary and dark winter days on this remote island. Harry didn’t know who it was she had arranged to be sent here. All he knew was that the weather was horrid today, and the Portkeys had never properly worked in this remote corner of the North Sea. The island was special, its magic working in odd and surprising ways.

The last person Harry expects to find on the beach is Draco Malfoy.

2022 in Fic

I am feeling rather bashful about posting this, but fuck it. I was tagged, and I shall answer. When I look back at 2022 in fic, all I can think of is you, friends.

Perdition - LCD is the fest that got me into fandom. @celilasart, thank you for being so welcoming and patient. I would have been alone on an island without you.

Rebel, Rebel - @ladderofyears, Jasper, and @daisiesfordragons cheered me on, beta read, alpha read, and brit-picked. I felt so loved and cared for--that was my intro to fandom, and I immediately knew I was in the right place. @anaxandria-writes bound it beautifully, and I'm still in awe that I have two of my fics literally sitting on my bedside table.

Grey Eyes and Lies - I got paired with the one and only @veelawings for RBB and got to go crazy/get to know better someone I really admire. Then I struggled since it was my first dark!fic and @m0se helped me to the finish line. I also met @shealynn88 while writing this one, so it's extra special.

Pictor - My dreams came true and I got to work with @crazybutgood, AND I got to keep the physical artwork!!! It didn't get as many kudos and what not as my heart thought it deserved, but @corvuscrowned helped me get past it. I am so grateful for both of you.

The Island Assignment - @lqtraintracks showed me that my writing has the potential to go beyond stereotypes with a simple change of phrase or scene. I'm still mind-blown every time you touch anything I write.

Erised (revealed NEXT WEEK, links to collection) - I was so scared because I tried something new, but @tackytigerfic helped me feel better about it. @skeptiquex beta-ed, and now I scrutinize every sentence I write [in a good way].

Kinkuary 2022 - This collection has @thebooktopus's fingerprints all over it. My first fandom friend! I was so nervous about writing smut, but then I got to beta her incredible Tonks/Charlie fic. It was so empowering and inspired me to write this collection.

Penitent - Where the priest kink so many of you know me for started. I love y'all for tagging me on all the priest kink stuff to this day <3

Green, Blue & Royally Screwed - My first fic to get a bad review in the bookmarks. It stung! @basicallyahedgehog @phoebe-delia were there to soothe my ego and throw things/elbows with me. I adore you two. This I think was the first time I wrote as it was beta-ed, and honestly, it would not be what it became without @curlyy-hair-dont-care, goddess of fandom. Really, truly.

A Dream & An Allen Wrench - A shorty, but this was the first time I poured my heart on paper. I've done it twice now, and the second time was much more difficult. It was as easy as breathing the first time because it was for @geesenoises. I treasure you, friend.

Sex, Love and Skateboarding - Taught me that I need to read squick lists CAREFULLY lol & I wouldn't even be in this fandom without my BELOVED @greenmegsnoham. Cheers to prancing around fandoms together in the coming year <3

A Kingdom or This - I got to play in Wolfstar, write with a partner, AND meet @second-sister. I've been a horrendous partner, but getting back into this fic is the first thing I'll do after I get over this wretched cold!

I started writing without knowing that it would bring me to this community and more love and support than I ever expected. Thank you for making my year. & though it's not exactly fic, I also want to send so much love to @pineau-noir, @phd-mama, @digthewriter, and @sugareey-makes-stuff from the local crew - your friendship means so much to me.
