Sivvus is a druid in the most pompous way possible.

Picture vines, trees, wisteria, and other plants that grow in braids and Celtic knots forming living chairs and tables and awnings and gazebos throughout a garden so carefully curated it seems as if Nature hardly had a say in the creation of itself.

Picture mosses organized by colour and density to create different textures to walk upon barefoot. The smells of flowers organized so as you travel through the garden, you experience one after another as if they were sorted with purposeful intent, never mixing or clashing and always with "palate cleansing" scents in between gardens, such as hedges of cedar or citrus.

Imagine a garden so curated that in its perfection it makes you feel as if you are intruding, marring it with your presence. You weren't accounted for, when this place was made. Imagine a garden so lush, so alive, but somehow still feeling... sterile.

That is Sivvus' garden.

Hob learns to trust again?

This one's a 5+1 type fic (or at least, that's how I planned it) but after their 2022 meeting, Dream's like, "Yup! I do so love this man now and must do as I always do and shower him with affection and love and everything."

Hob, however is like, "Okay, hold on, slow down, I'm still getting used to the idea that you want to be my friend and aren't planning on storming out on me. Give me time, yeah?"

1.) It starts with Dream gifting a bouquet of flowers plucked from the Dreaming, delivered by himself. Hob, at first, takes it as a very kind gesture as his flat does need a bit of color and it’s only polite to bring round a gift when you’ve been invited over, right? The Endless have manners too, he supposed, and doesn’t think much of it beyond the fact that they’re downright gorgeous flowers.

2.) Then, just a day later, Dream whisks Hob from his usual dream to a wondrous picnic on an impossible grassy plain below the Pillars of Creation. Of course, Hob’s not going to turn down good food and an incredible view, even if it is a dream. Besides, Dream brought venison pastries, how could he say no? He thinks it’s just that Dream wants to show off his abilities since his friend has begun to share more of himself since he first came to the New Inn those few months back. But then he feels Dream’s hand atop his own, and sure, Hob’s not against some good ol’ platonic affection, but Dream’s never been one for that. They’ve barely even brushed fingers before and now he’s holding Hob’s hand in his own? Hob says nothing of it. Perhaps this is how Dream is when he feels comfortable. Hob feels conflicted at the quickening pace of his heart.

3.) A month later, Dream crafts a fanciful wooden spoon with detailed engravings depicting a raven, the sun, a heart, Celtic knots, and a horse (white horse tavern) on it. (Love Spoon, Welsh courting tradition from 17th century) Hob doesn’t officially know it’s from Dream, but it was laying on his pillow as he got ready for bed that night. He’d heard of this tradition, one of carving a wooden spoon for your future spouse. It was more a Welsh tradition than an English one, but he’d lived close enough in the 17th century to recognize the spoon for what it was.

4.) After Hob fell asleep that same night, Dream gives him a tour of his kingdom and gifts him a ring made of Dreamstuff to wear so that he may come into the Dreaming not as a Dreamer, but as his guest, whenever he wishes. Hob is stunned for a while, halfway taking everything in, but also because his best friend for millennia has just gifted him a ring. He’s in the process of thanking, but also refusing because, hello!  It’s a ring and the look in Dream’s star eye says that there’s a reason it’s a ring and not a bracelet or something else, but as he’s mid sentence, he’s pulled from the Dreaming by his alarm clock going off.

5.) When Hob seems hesitant to reciprocate in the same way, Dream has Matthew deliver a handwritten letter expressing Dream’s affection, all of which is incredibly sweet and Hob loves hearing it cause yeah, you know, there's a spot in his heart that's growing to love Dream. Especially now that he knows his name and what he is. But the memories of how their past meetings have been still lingers. The hurt still lingers.

1+) That’s when Hob has a Heart-To-Heart with his friend and basically tells him, "Listen, first and foremost, you are my friend and that will never change. The love I have for you in that regard will never go away. And there's a piece of me that's beginning to love you back the way you seem to love me, but darling, you've got every scrap of power in this relationship and you always have. I have no way to reach you, you can come and go at will, you only tell me what you feel is acceptable for me to know and I'm kept in the dark otherwise. So until you can prove it to me that you're serious here, that you want us to be a partners and all the equality that that entails, until you can prove that you trust me and that I can trust you, I can't accept this. I'm so sorry."

Oh heck yeah!!

Hmmm.... Ok, here we go.

1. I teach middle school social studies and I run a club where I take the kids on a 3-day field trip to the state capitol to learn how government works. We won a lot of awards last year (my 1st year doing it, actually) and I'm hoping that we can keep the momentum going this year. I don't care about awards, but I do care about the school having a good reputation.

2. Earlier this month, I built myself a shield to take to a Renaissance faire. I was so proud of myself because I designed it and put it together pretty much on my own, and I also woodburned a cobra and some Celtic knots across it. I was so happy with how it turned out!

3. I'm a huge Trekkie. Specifically, I love Mr. Spock. Before Creation stopped bringing the official Star Trek convention to Nashville, my family and I would go every year and dress up in costumes, and it was a great experience. I love seeing how creative fans can get! Plus, I'm pretty good at Star Trek trivia, so I actually won $300 of merchandise one year in a contest. I was up on the stage and everything. I was self-conscious about it, but it was awesome! 😂🖖

NATURE AS MIRROR

Can  you feel the  spiritual ecology we’ve been talking about? If you live  in a fully connected  world, you’re saved every day, just by playing  your part. You are grabbed by  God, and you belong to this universe,  along with everything else. I was  recently feeling discouraged and  irritated, and I went out to my garden and  spotted a green “stick bug”  happily chewing on my flowers, almost completely  camouflaged next to  the stem. This bug’s simple but amazing existence  completely took away  all of my negativity. Life was again wondrous and  miraculous.

At  a recent  retreat I gave on the Scottish island of Iona—which was the  center point for  the diffusion of Celtic Christianity—the attendees  remarked how the Celtic  "knot" was found on most crosses, gravestones,  in manuscripts, and on  jewelry. It was apparently their  artistic way  of saying that all is connected, everything belongs, and all is  one in  God. They knew about ecosystems long before we did. ALL was held   together inside the divine knot that made it one.

T.S.  Eliot ends  his famous "Four Quartets" quoting Dame Julian, and saying  the same: “And  all shall be well and / All manner of thing shall be  well / When the tongues of  flame are in-folded / into the crowned knot  of fire.”

Three Houses. Three Hopes. Three Countries. Three-and-a-half routes. This game sure loves its trinities, doesn't it? The pattern on Jeralt and Byleth's clothes include an inverted Celtic trinity knot, funnily enough.

How about we go even further and invoke a trinity of draconic gods for this world? Sothis wouldn't be the only one out there...

And so, for your viewing pleasure, here be my bloated headcanon of the three gods of Fódlan's world.

Enjoy the saga of the three gods and the romance that struck two of them: The Fell Star of Fódlan...

...and the Wise Father of Almyra.

In the beginning, hanging in the distant sky above this world, there were three stars. They lingered silently like sentinels, with their gleam brightest up north during times when the world was cold. The peoples who dwelt on this faraway planet could only speculate the true nature of these three stars.

All of this changed when they descended from the stars themselves. While they were known as many things in their lifetime, they would be first and foremost be known as dragonkin, from the forms that they shared in common.

From the white star Procyon, The Carpenter - Shira.

From the blue star, Sirius, the Mother of All Life - Sothis.

And from the red star, Orion, the Wise Father - Sahu.

It is said that the three gods found this world in their journey amongst the stars within the span of a few millenia.

The eldest and most unknown of the gods, Shira, graced the island-country in the shape of a dragon's puff of smoke, known to the people of the current era as Albinea. Together with their children, the Sirrush, they had risen from an unknowing sentinel of a small land to the high law-maker and great steward of lands from the archipelagos of Brigantia to the deserts of Morphis to the Frontier Lands up north. It is said that his most everlasting stewardship was held on the "dragon's head" of Thinis, with some of their kin even reaching the "dragon's body," which consisted of many small kingdom-clans therein (Elan, Ecbatana, Medes, Araxas, and Palmyrene).

Yet in the vortex of time, this stewardship would eventually be lost, and Shira's presence would soon vanish, re-centering on the land they had first come to, Albinea. None know what became of them or the Sirrush, but the few druids and story-tellers whom had studied this time period point fingers at the creation of the Gate of God in Thinis as the start of their downfall. After all, why else would Shira seemingly fade into a realm beyond mortal eyes?

Others point at the coming of Shira's unofficial "successors," Sothis and Sahu.

These two would seemingly take many cues from their elder "sibling," yet unlike Shira they chose to use their mysterious magics and abilities to walk among the people of the land. Sothis would call the dragon's head (modern day Fódlan) her home and birth her children, the Nabateans, in the bountiful canyon of Zanado, situated in the heart of Thinis.

Sahu, in turn, would call the dragon's body (modern day Almyra) home and father his children, the Dahakans, in the sky-reaching Mountain of Songs in the ancient Kingdom of Samaria, situated in a tiny isle north of the mainland, connected by the slightest sliver of land.

It is the story of Sothis and Sahu that would come to drive the incredible epoch of this world, left in Shira's wake. Some would call it a perdition, others empyrean. But however one views it, it cannot be denied that this epoch would shadow the love that these two different draconic beings once shared...

"What do I do now?.."

I went through many design processes when Drexel was in his first stages of developing as a real character. I knew I wanted him to have a tattoo to represent the tribe he lives in. When first designing his tattoo, I was not aware of the real-world connection that it has with the Celtic culture. That design is extremely, if not an exact replica of the Celtic Spiral Knot. The meaning of this Celtic Knot is commonly considered to signify the three forces of nature: water, fire, and earth, and the single line is said to signify the oneness of the spirit and the spirals represent growth. The gaps in the spirals symbolize the stages of life: life, death, and rebirth. When redesigning his tattoo, I wanted to keep the theme of the oneness of life, death, and rebirth. In my story, this is the main theme and driving force of the characters. In Drexel’s tribe, this concept is extremely important as they are a people that have decided to live one with nature. They have connected so much with it that they are able to transform their physical human bodies into the bodies of the animal that most resonates in their soul. This is the design I came up with (see the second image for a better look). It depicts a tree and a deer antler intertwined together, spiraling in a circle. The tree symbolizes plant life, and the deer antler symbolizes animal life. The roots of the tree growing into the antler represent their relation together in upholding the cycle of life and death. Creation and Destruction. I drew this drawing to better showcase how the tattoo looks with Drexel's design, and I think it works way better. I feel way more comfortable knowing it is unique.

Illuminated manuscripts embody the extraordinary union of beauty and knowledge.

Though the art of making them disappeared with the advent of the printing press, the most spectacular manuscripts survived the ages.

1. The Morgan Crusader Bible, 13th century

Commissioned by French King Louis IX, the Morgan Crusader Bible depicts events from the Hebrew Bible set in the scenery and attire of 13th-century France — it puts a medieval twist on Old Testament stories.

Consisting of 46 folios, the manuscript displays illustrations accompanied by text written in either Latin, Persian, Arabic, or Hebrew.

The vivid colors and attention to detail make it one of the most popular illuminated manuscripts.

2. The Black Hours, 15th century

The Black Hours is a book of hours (a type of prayer book) created in Bruges, Belgium.

The style is in imitation of Wilhelm Vrelant, the most popular illuminator of the period and constructed of vellum (calfskin) that’s been dyed pitch black.

Gold and blue paint overlay the dark background to create an almost otherworldly look.

Written in silver and gold ink, the text lists the prayers to be said while depictions of Bible stories aid the reader in meditation.

3. Book of Kells, 9th century

Among the most iconic medieval manuscripts is the Book of Kells.

Created in a Columban monastery, the text is the pinnacle of early medieval calligraphy and illumination.

The graphics are a blend of insular art (the post-Roman era style of art popular in Irish monasteries) and traditional Christian iconography.

Plants, animals, Celtic knots, and biblical figures decorate the 680 page volume to tell the story of Jesus’ life.

4. Codex Argenteus, 6th century

Latin for “Silver Book,” the Codex Argenteus contains the four gospels written in Gothic, making it one of the world’s foremost sources for the now-extinct language.

The book was likely written as a gift for Ostrogothic king, Theodoric the Great.

The work is particularly striking due to its purple-stained vellum pages, metallic ink, and silver binding. Looks almost Tolkienesque…

5. Acre Bible, 13th Century

Another work commissioned by Louis IX, the Acre Bible was compiled shortly after the king’s release from captivity during the disastrous 7th crusade.

Upon returning to France, he deposited the masterwork in his newly built Sainte-Chapelle library.

It contains 19 books of the Old Testament, and its illustrations are considered masterpieces of crusader art.

6. The Aberdeen Bestiary, 12-13th century

A bestiary is essentially an encyclopedia of animals and mythical beasts.

They gained popularity throughout the Middle Ages as readers could learn about exotic animals or mythical creatures.

This one was owned by Henry VIII and features a retelling of the Genesis creation story with fantastical images of creatures both real and imagined.

7. The Very Rich Hours of the Duke of Berry, 15th century

The best surviving example of the International Gothic style of illumination, it’s one of the most lavishly designed late-medieval manuscripts and contains well over 100 illustrations.

Despite beautiful scenes covering most of its pages, the work didn’t shy away from darker imagery.

8. The Berthold Sacramentary, 13th century

Commissioned by the abbot of Weingarten Abbey, this manuscript is a form of missal called a sacramentary used by priests for liturgical services.

A sacramentary gives the priest's readings and prayers for the Mass. This one is a paragon of Romanesque art.
