Car Safety; Worried Parents
You already know, let's just hop in.
Tumblr media
Harry getting his license was nerve-wracking. Not for him, for Athena. She'd seen many reckless teenagers lose control while driving. So when Harry got his permit, she had the excuse of still being the one driving, or at least being able to make sure he was safe. With the license, he would be alone.
Bobby was nervous too. Mainly because he didn't want to go on a call and see his kid(yes he saw Harry as his own) in the wrecked car. He and Michael were both trying to look for a car that wasn't over the top for Harry's first. May wasn't worried, she trusted Harry. She just made him promise she wouldn't receive a call while she was working about him.
"I know that will be me when Chris gets his license," Eddie said in the loft of the firehouse. Bobby had shared the news that Harry had gotten his license and decided to wait to get a car. Smart choice with how the market was right now.
"I'm worried that Denny will use it as an excuse to leave whenever we're in arguments. Driving while you are angry is the most dangerous." Hen said. Chimney was contemplating how old he would even let Jee-Yun get close to the driver's seat.
"Harry's a smart kid. He's Athena's. He'll be fine on the road when he gets his car."
"You better not give him your Jeep Buck," Bobby warned his surrogate son.
"Don't worry, saving that for Jee-Yun."
"Don't you dare Buckley. Besides why not give it to Chris?" Eddie raised an eyebrow and gave Buck an, 'Oh yeah?', look despite the comment being Chimney's.
"Cause then I'd end up sleeping in the car. Besides Chris already called dibs on the truck."
"Which he'll get when we get another one. So don't even think about it." Raising his hands in defense, he walked behind the counter to help Bobby with lunch. After eating peacefully, the alarm went off and they ran to the truck.
"Alright, we gotta car crash. A Jeep Wrangler and a Lambo." Ravi winced at imaging the ways it could've happened. No matter what, both people in the cars were probably okay. It was a rainy day so either of the cars could have lost control from the wet cement.
When they arrived at the scene, they saw Athena who looked scared. She walked up to the team and debriefed them.
"Teenager in the jeep. Seventeen, turning eighteen tomorrow. The father was in the copilot seat. Lambo was an older man. Had to handcuff him." She explained pointing at the 40-year-old-looking man. Who was cursing the kid across from him. The poor kid looked terrified.
"Already questioned him, I need you guys to get the parent out, he's knocked unconscious." Looking behind her, they were able to see the jeep tipped on its right side. Through the windshield, they could see the father's face. With blood dripping down slightly. Rushing into action they were able to pull him out and make sure he was alive.
When he felt that someone was holding him, he stirred a bit.
"Sir, we're gonna help you out. Can you tell me your name?"
"Mm, Patrick Mendieta. My son, where is he?" He slurred out trying to break free weakly while looking for his kid.
"He's safe sir don't worry."
"You don't understand, he had top surgery a few months ago. Stitches are closed completely but-,"
"In that case, we'll double-check. Right now we need to get you to the hospital to fix up that head of yours." Hen told him while Buck went to go check on the kid.
"Hey there, what's your name?"
"Oliver. I swear it wasn't my fault. We were just driving like normal and he came out of nowhere."
"Yeah right! You were going too fucking slow! Idiot children, don't have no respect-"
"Sir, calm down before I make you," Buck said, effectively making him shut up. Looking back at the kid, he saw the tears streaming down his face. Anger in his eyes.
"He wasn't watching the speed limit. And somehow it's my fault to be careful in the rain."
"I know kid, trust me he'll get reprimanded. Right now I need to make sure you're okay. Your door took the hit it seems." Oliver looked back to his car to realize that Buck was right.
The driver's side was dented, which made the fault immediately go to the other driver. With that he let Buck examine him. Few bruised ribs and a sprained wrist. Nothing serious but would have to go to the doctor to check his back.
After sending the kid away, they dealt with any more issues the rain had caused before heading back to the firehouse. Athena had gotten there early and was sitting at the dinner table eating the food she made for dinner.
"Athena?"
"Couldn't go back immediately. Not after that. Can't stop thinking about Harry." Massaging her shoulders, Bobby made sure she was relaxed before driving back out on patrol.
When the shift ended Eddie and Buck gave Chris an extra long hug. Hen gave Denny another pop quiz on how to handle driving in the rain, and Athena did not let Harry drive any car for a month after that. Not without initial protest. However, it turned to guilt after hearing about the accident from his classmate Oliver.

Eddie: "Well, the rain finally started." (aka the other shoe finally dropped as expected)
Buck: "It's kind of weird but it ended up being a really nice night. Kind of felt like we were an actual family."
Eddie: "You are an actual family."
Buck (with that little familiar smile and duck of his head): "It never felt that way before."
Bobby: "So maybe you all made some progress there. That's good. Life's too short to take those relationships for granted."
Eddie: "Sounds like your family had your back on the whole donation thing. That's definitely progress."
Buck: "No, they, uh, they totally thought that was an idiotic decision. They just weren't going to let Chimney's dad have the last word on it.
1, Eddie has no idea what he's about to be in for.
2, Eddie hasn't been in much of the episode which would be weird given how he was emotionally supportive and present for Buck back in season 4 when Buck's parents came around & it would be even weirder to bring Albert back for it but not Eddie. However, I see what they're doing here. This is about Buck, as we all know, and he & Eddie are not on the same page as evidenced not only be the sweat shirt/suspenders from the turnout gear locker scene but also Buck not being honest with Eddie about his parents' actual reaction to the donor news. Which would be weird considering again what happened in season 4 and how he had no problem being honest with Eddie (or Bobby) then, but this is all setting up Buck to go on this journey that we're about to see so he can come full circle in his arc himself. And he needs to do that himself in order for there to be the full growth/development he needs to experience in order to get to Buck 4.0 and set him up for his future (aka Buddie). So it's no coincidence that he's not being completely honest here with Eddie or Bobby (his father figure & the person that sometimes mirrors Eddie himself).
3, The universe is about to get very loud again. Buck isn't listening to it and it's obvious because of him just saying what he said to Eddie even though we the viewers know differently (and thus we are supposed to question just why Buck is telling Eddie and Bobby something different when we know Buck is probably over the moon about his parents' real reaction, primarily Eddie since they are facing each other & his answer is directly to Eddie's statement). Buck had no problem admitting that it felt like they were a family to Eddie and Bobby who both commented on it. But Eddie was the only one to bring up the donor issue (which means it's on his mind & most likely what's bothering him, just like in 6A when we saw the four-way phone call, also notice no Hen or Chim in the engine at this point, Chim who would call bull on what Buck just said & Hen who Buck confided in before everyone else about the donor decision) and that's when Buck gives him that line. The sperm donor issue isn't just an issue for Buck; it's an issue for Eddie, too. This cements it. The fact that Bobby doesn't comment on it or say anything akin to Eddie shows just who this issue is going to affect/impact moving forward. And I think iirc there was talk about a possible dating scenario for Eddie in this back half of the season? This all jives exactly with that scenario if it happens. Buck and Eddie need to get on the same page first before anything can happen.
4, Bobby! Life is too short to take those relationships for granted??? While it's being made obvious that Buck is still holding something from Eddie and vice versa? You're killing me here. Do I really have to wait another week to see how this is all going to play out with what's coming? Especially for Buck's life? 911 writers, have mercy!
5, for those who say Buddie isn't a real thing, it won't go canon, and whatever else: the fact that the universe (aka the writers/show) has gotten involved each and every single time when it comes to these two guys and their arcs means they're moving towards it. Accept it, love it, live it, and move on. The whole roadmap has been set out before us; season 7 is going to be lit.

Also, I am soooooooooooo torn about the scenes with Manifold and Frenzy and Brand. On the one hand, I am like yeeeeeees that Eden just flat out called Brand on all her shit, said I am not an idiot and I do not trust you, here is my resignation letter, now watch me BOUNCE.
That said, Eden Fesi is hands down the break-out star of the Krakoan era for me and I will be horrendously sad if this marks his exit from the X-books, because I don’t see any of the other titles picking him up if Ewing stops using him. And dear god let his ‘I’m gonna go back to being an Avenger’ crack just be a dig at Brand. Nooooooooo. Only X-books for Manifold from now on, its what he deserves!
So, fingers crossed that he ends up joining Storm and Magneto’s Brotherhood instead. His POV has been great and it would seamlessly fit into everything Ewing’s been doing with the Brotherhood and the Arakki mutants, as well as Thunderbird. I’m actually gonna be surprised if this ISN’T building towards him jumping ship to Ororo’s faction and just switching allegiances (Frenzy too), but I’m still riding the Wave O’Disappointment that is finding out Bobby’s moving to Duggan’s X-Men title instead of X-Men Red, so I’m hedging my bets and keeping fingers firmly crossed that I’m just reading too much into his exit from his scene with Brand here.
Same goes for Frenzy, but I’m not AS worried about her leaving because unlike Eden, she’s been a longterm fixture in X-books and will continue to be so.....Ewing however is the first writer to cement Eden’s place in the X-franchise so I’m more cautious there.

9-1-1 REACTION
This reaction is for the season 5, seventeenth episode titled "Hero Complex" which originally aired on May 9, 2022. The episode was written by Stacey R. Rose and Kristen Reidel and directed by Marita Grabiak. Spoilers ahead!
Tumblr media
We start this episode with a villain origin story! We see a little boy with serial killer tendencies on a school bus cicra the mid-90s. When the bus driver has a heart attack and crashes the bus, little Norman Bates jumps into action and saves the day. His rescue efforts garners attention from the local press. He's also awarded a key to the city as well as a $50,000 check for college. Throughout all of this, we see him soaking it all up. We then flash-forward to the present and see adult Jonah Greenway (Bryce Durfee) reveling in the attention he receives as a paramedic. Somebody has a hero complex! Oooooh, that's the title of the episode! Cue title card!
Tumblr media
The funeral of Claudette Collins (Vanessa Williams) happens and May, Athena, and Bobby attend. May is clearly shaken by the death of her former coworker/nemesis. Athena and Bobby try to console her but May believes that Claudette shouldn't have died. You know who else doesn't think Claudette should've died? Henrietta Wilson! Hen also attends the funeral and does some sleuthing during the repass which takes place at Claudette's home. Side Note: We learn this episode that Claudette Collins leaves behind a husband and a daughter which makes her death even more heartbreaking. Anywho, Hen learns via the medicine cabinet that Claudette had high blood pressure. She presents this information to her bestie Chimney and heavily insinuates that Jonah may have been involved in her death. What I love about this scene is that Chimney doesn't question Hen. He doesn't doubt her claims. Instead, he believes her and tells her that they need more proof.
Tumblr media
Hen and Chimney head over to the 118 and wait for those on duty to be called out to an emergency. THey then sneak into Bobby's office and locate the paperwork for two emergencies that were handled by Jonah. Hen reads about Perry - the spider-sitter from a few episodes ago - and this is where we the viewer are reminded that Perry coded and was quickly revived by Jonah prior to being loaded into the ambulance. To further cement that something ain't right about Mr. Jonah Greenway, Hen and Chimney learn he's been with several other fire departments across the country, including Chicago, Dallas, Denver, and Miami. Why all the hopping around, Jonah? Suspicious indeed!
After leaving the house, Hen starts to think maybe she is reading too much into things but thankfully Chimney is there to reassure her. Something is definitely up with Jonah aka Monday and he needs to be stopped before someone else ends up hurt. Or worse. I am so glad Chimney is back because I've missed this partnership and friendship so badly. Hen heads home and catches Karen up on what she's been investigating. We learn that Hen talked to someone at the 122, the house that Jonah was relocated after Chimney came back. The person tells Hen that while responding to a call involving a fender bender, the driver went into cardiac arrest and died while under the care of Jonah. Karen points out that there's a pattern here and here is yet another person who has chosen to believe Hen rather than doubt her.
Tumblr media
Hen and Chimney head over to Buck and Taylor's place and ask to see the news footage taken during the call center fire. When Taylor plays the footage, Jonah can clearly be seen in the background injecting some kind of drug into Claudette's IV. When Buck and Taylor ask what is going on, Hen and Chimney ask that what they are about to tell them is off the record. They go into detail about everything concerning Jonah and Buck starts poking holes into their accusations. This seemed very out of character for Buck. Usually when it comes to this sort of thing, he is very quick to get on board. I'm usually a huge Buck fan but he really annoyed me in this scene. Thankfully Taylor is on Hen and Chimney's side and she thinks that Jonah may be a serial killer.
Tumblr media
Hen and Chimney present the video to Bobby and Athena. Athena posits that maybe Jonah is some kind of angel of mercy but Hen believes something deeper is going on. She believes that Jonah is bringing their patients to the brink of death only to use his skills to bring them back. Jonah Greenway is playing God and Hen is not here for it. Meanwhile, Bobby learns that an investigation has been opened regarding Claudette's death and Jonah has been placed on light duty pending the results of said investigation. Fearing that Jonah might come after her and the people she loves. On the way home, she receives a call from Jonah and he insinuates that he's gonna do something to get back at her for not giving him a chance. She makes a call to Karen and tells her to get her mom and Denny out of the house. Karen puts two and two together and realizes that if Jonah is coming after someone Hen cares about, it's not her or Denny or her mother - it's the person whose place he could never take. Jonah is going after Chimney.
Hen heads over to Chimney's place and finds the door to his apartment open. When she goes inside, Chimney is nowhere to be found. When she goes to text him, Jonah comes up behind her and drugs her. Hen wakes up in Jonah's apartment and finds herself bound in a chair. On the other side of the room, she sees an unconscious Chimney connected to an IV. Jonah taunts Hen by telling her that she messed things up for him and that they were supposed to be on the same team. Using drugs and a defibrillator he purchased probably off the dark web, he administers something via Chimney's IV that causes him to flat-line. Hen starts to freak out and I imagine this had to be her worse nightmare come to life. Having the means to save someone you care about but not having the power to do so has to be a horrific feeling. Jonah uses shock paddles to restart Chimney's heart and if it wasn't apparent before, this man is a psychopath.
Tumblr media
Hen pleads for Jonah to let Chimney go and instead he stops CHimney's heart again and then shocks it back to a steady rhythm. Poor Chimney - he's been through so much just this season alone. He did not deserve this. While Jonah talks to Hen about her needing a new partner, Chimney regains consciousness and starts slipping his hands out of the restraints. While Hen continues to vamp, Chimney presses a button on the heart monitor to make it look like he's flat-lining. When Jonah goes over to investigate, Chimney uses one of the shock paddles on him which knocks him out. He then falls off of the table he is on and crawls over to Hen. The two of them are so grateful to be alive and this moment further cements their friendship.
The cavalry shows up thanks to Karen and Maddie and Jonah is arrested. One of the best moments of the episode was seeing Bobby going into Papa Bear mode and punch Jonah in the face. I know I get on Owen's case for always using his fist but this is out of character for Bobby so I didn't mind it as much. Bobby is clearly rattled by nearly losing two of his paramedics and blames himself for hiring Jonah in the first place. Athena calms him down and reminds him that he didn't know that Jonah was a homicidal maniac. She also assures Hen that Jonah is going to jail for a very long time. Hen and Chimney are sent to the hospital for observation and both are happy to be alive. I'm so glad this nightmare is over and I hope we never have to see Jonah Greenway again.
Tumblr media
There are only two other story arcs in this episode and one of them involves Eddie returning home to Texas for his father's retirement celebration. Eddie has a very strained relationship with his dad and resents him for not being around when he was growing up. Let me just say, it was so nice to see Aunt Pepa and Eddie's abuela. I have missed them and I love how supportive they are of Eddie and Christopher, even when Eddie's parents aren't. Eddie is intent on making it through the celebration with no drama but things take a turn when Eddie's parents tease him about the time he wrecked the dad's truck when his mom went into labor. All of the resentment Eddie has for his dad finally bubbles over and he rips into him about how he was never there and how it was Eddie looking after his mom and sisters. Clearly this conversation is too much for the elder Diaz to handle because he starts having what I thought at first was a heart attack. Eddie recognizes the symptoms immediately and asks him flat out if he hasn't any heart stents. Ramon Diaz admits to having three heart stents put in and the rest of the family, including his wife, are shocked. He then admits that pride was the reason why he kept this from his family.
Tumblr media
Eddie realizes he and his dad actually have more in common than they realize. They both hide things because they fear the people around them will think they are weak. Eddie opens up about the time he had a panic attack while shopping for a suit for Christopher. Eddie tells his dad that he's spent most of his life trying not to be like his father but all he wants now is to just be a better person for his sake and Christopher's sake. Ramon commits to wanting to be a better person as well, including a better father (and hopefully a better grandfather) to Eddie and Christopher. I really liked this storyline because one thing this show does better than Lone Star is we get to see the familial relationships more. I like Eddie's family and I love seeing their culture displayed openly and proudly. I hope we get to see more of them, especially Aunt Pepa and Abuela.
Finally, let's talk about Buck and Taylor. Now I'm someone who has vehemently defended Taylor in the past mostly because the 9-1-1 fandom as a whole loves to laud Buck for the very things they condemn Taylor for. However, in this episode, what Taylor does is indefensible. When Buck makes her promise to not say anything about the Jonah Greenway situation, I kept thinking to myself, Buck you should have been more specific in your wording. When Taylor got that look on her face, I knew she was about to go behind Buck's back and do something shady. And sure enough, she did. Adding further insult to injury is that just a few episodes ago, Buck and Taylor had a very raw and honest conversation about Buck cheating on her. Taylor tells him to never lie to her again and she turns around and does the same thing to him, albeit there was no cheating involved. A part of me wonders if Taylor did what she did to get back at Buck after seeing him talking to Lucy last episode. Whatever her motives are, I feel like Taylor's days are numbered. One thing Buck thrives off is trust and that is something Taylor has violated in a major way. Ugh - Taylor! I was rooting for you! How dare you! Learn something from this.
Tumblr media
Well, that's the end of the episode. What an incredible penultimate episode! The back half of season 5 continues to not disappoint. I'm so happy that Jonah finally got caught and Claudette's death was avenged. Kudos to Hen and Chimney for putting their partnership to good use and saving the day and further proving that Hen was right to not trust Jonah. Unfortunately this episode isn't without casualties so to speak. I honestly believe that Buck is going to break up with Taylor. I don't see him being able to continue having a relationship with someone he doesn't trust. Also, I'm now worried about Bobby. First last week's fire had to be very triggering for him. On top of all of that, he feels responsible for hiring Jonah in the first place. Bobby places so much pressure on himself and some would say rightfully so considering he's the captain. I just pray we don't see him relapse. He's been sober for about two years now since he lost his sobriety. This show and Lone Star loves to have their addicts lose their sobriety for some reason. I really, really hope Bobby talks to someone whether it be Athena or a professional if he considers drinking or using again. I'm really worried about how this season is going to end but I guess I have to wait a week to find out. Until next time ...

Mother(figure)s of Stargirl
screenshots credit: @StargirlWiki on Twitter; gif credit: @stripesysheaven
Tumblr media
Barbara certainly lives up to the phrase on her mug. Not just for the kids who live with her, either. It's so sweet the way she takes care of their friends as well.
Tumblr media
While Bridget started out the series among the ranks of moms who don't deserve their titles, she certainly gets her redemption arc as the story goes on. My favorite moment of her supporting Beth comes from Summer School: Chapter 8, but I also love that she becomes a sidekick.
Tumblr media
Speaking of redemption arcs, watching Paula turn her life around was one of the most pleasant surprises from Stargirl. She always loved Artemis, but seeing her become a hero cemented that. How her story ended hits even harder today. I'll explain more at the end of the post.
Tumblr media
Wouldn't dare go this whole post without mentioning Maria, and no I don't mean Montez. Maria Carmen Saravia was a better mom to Yolanda than her biological mother will ever be.
Tumblr media
Now for some mothers I wish we could've seen more of. Denise is up first because, like Joey, I was invested in her character very quickly. They were like my Henry before Henry, because he took time to earn my respect. I dunno, there was just something about her.
Tumblr media
Anaya's main trait was coddling Isaac. There had to be more to her story. I'm assuming she wasn't always so smothering, and that developed after the death of her husband. I really would've liked to see who she was beyond her affiliations. And that power set was worth exploring.
Tumblr media
My jaw hit the floor when I heard Christine's dying wish. Nice subversion. Evil as she and Jordan might've been, they clearly loved their kid (the latter up to a certain point, anyway). If nothing else, I'm thankful she gave Cameron his talent.
I couldn't find or make a decent screenshot of Wendi. Her only scene goes by so fast. You can feel the panic as Rick's parents left him behind. There's no way she knew JUST how bad her brother was. I wouldn't name a legacy OC after her otherwise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Neither Suzanne nor Bobbie ever got to be happy, and I blame Dragon King for that. He made Cindy into the monster she thought she was, which is probably why Eclipso was able to manipulate her. I'm sorry they suffered.
Tumblr media
Merry's early JSA affiliated days would've been so cool to see. It's a shame her only appearance is in a single picture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And lastly, two mother figures I was glad to be wrong about. Nurse Love was revealed to be just trying to help for decades. She just had the wrong idea about how. And once Miss Woods got put in check, she really came through reminding Rick of his worth.
Tumblr media
An honorable mention, Maggie. What she did in her past put her on top of the list of mothers who don't deserve to be called such. But the last thing we see her do is try to be better. I really wanted to see her earn her happy ending.
To close, I wanna talk a little about my mom.  She shared qualities showcased by some of these characters:  Sweet, hardheaded, creative, caring, smart, beautiful, funny.  She passed away in 2005.  I miss her always, but today more than usual.  She's my greatest inspiration.

Okay so I just saw your post about Eddie looking at buck and a) I’m curious about your thoughts re: the finale and b) just thinking about it and how buck talks about never feeling seen by his parents (I don’t remember the exact quote rn but I feel like he says something to that effect at the hospital to Maddie)
Ok so you know how I established that Eddie always looks at Buck. Whether it’s a heated look, a soft look, or straight up heart eyes, he never really looks away from Buck. And his favorite thing to do that idk if he’s even aware of is give Buck that subtle once over, like he’s checking him out subconsciously. So I really think it’s very possible Buck ends up moving in with Eddie and Christopher in the finale. I just answered an ask in depth of why and how it could go down! But like idk just something about this whole starting over business has always made me think we’d get some kind of Buddie moment you know? So imagine if they are at the wedding/vow renewal and we get a moment where maybe Bobby goes up to Eddie and asks him how he’s doing after everything he’s been through, kind of paralleling the season three finale. Eddie genuinely looks happy and looks at maybe Buck and Christopher and answers that he’s “doing great” and that’s that. Then right before we end the episode, ideally I would love a kitchen scene to parallel the one from 5.11, in which maybe Eddie asks Buck if he’s doing ok? He just broke up with his girlfriend and moved out so it would make sense for Eddie to be checking in on him like that. And Buck pulls out some beers and looks at him, smiles and says “yes of course.” Then we get a moment where Eddie full on gives him that once over and we see the longing for something more before he makes eye contact and reaches his hand out holding his beer for Buck to cheers it. Buck smiles and they cheers to both of them “starting over” while sharing this intense look that leaves the door open for so much interpretation of what’s to come in s6!!!
Also about Buck feeling like he’s never been seen by his parents. I feel like that’s just the tip of the iceberg because he really hasn’t been seen by any of his partners in any of the relationships he’s had. He’s always trying to overcompensate in his relationships to make sure his partner is happy and satisfied so they won’t leave him because that’s his biggest fear. They don’t see him for who he really is because he’s putting on this act and trying to be the ideal boyfriend/partner so that they will stick around. The only person that has really seen the real Buck and chosen to love him and stay has been Eddie at this point. He’s seen him at his worst, he seen him at his best, he seen him at his ugliest, and he seen him at his most beautiful and in spite of it all, has chosen to cement Buck in his and his sons lives forever. By simply telling Buck, “I know you did” Eddie confirmed what we all know, and that is he sees who Buck is through and through, even the parts he doesn’t want anyone to see. Eddie is the only person that looks at Buck and sees past his looks and sees this man who’s so worthy of the worlds love and wants to kind of give it to him but just doesn’t know how. So he does it by offering up his son and offering of himself in his most vulnerable state hoping that he can see that there is someone who also sees him and loves him. But that doesn’t mean Eddie stops looking at Buck regardless. That man loves what he sees on the outside as well and never gives up the opportunity to fully look at Buck with no shame whatsoever. That’s just the power of being so in love I’d say 🥺

Things have been good since that night in Buck’s apartment. They’ve settled into a small routine with each other at this point. They don’t do anything too sexual at work, nothing more than just a light makeout session after a rough call, but Maeve will ask Nylah pick Harper up from school and go to Buck’s apartment for a little after a shift so they can go a little further than just making out. Sometimes they’ll grab dinner, or breakfast together.
Neither of them was ready for the call they got today, or what happens after said call.
The bell rings while Maeve is playing a game of Go Fish with Hen, Chimney, and Buck. The four of them put their cards down, gear up, then pile into the ladder truck alongside Bobby and Eddie.
“Listen up,” Bobby states through the headset. “This will be a risky scene, and I will be the incident commander since we’ll probably be the first to show up to the scene. You will listen to my every order, or you will probably end up getting hurt, or worse. There was gas explosion in a five-story building. The structure is not sound so when you go in for search and rescue, be cautious. Don’t play the hero if you think you’ll get hurt. Got it, Buckley?”
Buck smiles. “Aye, aye, captain,” he says. “Don’t worry. I won’t play the hero. I’ve already been crushed under a ladder truck; I don’t want to be crushed by cement.”
Maeve looks over at Buck. The two make eye contact and Maeve can’t help but smile.
The scene is chaotic. No other engines have arrived except for the 118. The building is on fire. People are running around screaming, some of them bloody. The members of the 118 get out and look around, assessing the scene currently.
Bobby’s quick to bark out orders. “Hen, Chimney, get a triage tent set up and start triaging people,” Bobby says, pointing to an open area. “Buck, Eddie, Maeve, I want the three of you on search and rescue. Stay on the first floor until we can make sure the floor won’t collapse from underneath you when you make your way upstairs. No heroics.”
“You got it, Cap,” Maeve says, saluting Bobby before putting on her oxygen mask and grabbing her medical bag and heading inside with the guys.
As soon as Maeve enters the building, she’s met with smoke. If she wasn’t wearing her mask, her eyes definitely would be tearing up. Buck and Eddie yell “LAFD” until the three of them finally hear back from someone. “Help!” they shout. “Over here! My leg is crushed under this slab of cement!”
Maeve looks at Buck, who falters for a second before running off toward the voice that called for help. Eddie and Maeve are right behind him. “LAFD, we’re coming!” Buck calls back.
The three of them barge into a smoke-filled room. There’s a man laying against the wall, his knee down is crushed under cement. There’s blood. Lots of it too. “Sir, what’s your name?” Maeve asks, crouching down next to the man.
“Ethan,” the guy breathes. “Am I going to lose my leg?”
She shakes her head. “Not under my watch,” she tells him. “I’m going to put this tourniquet on you, and it will hurt when I put it on, but it will stop the bleeding. Okay, Ethan?” He nods and Maeve puts the tourniquet on above Ethan’s knee.
Bobby’s voice comes over the radio. “Diaz, Grier, Buckley,” he states. “Evacuate the building. There’s another explosive inside. I repeat, there’s another explosive inside on the first floor.”
The three of them look at each other. Ethan begins to panic. “No, please, don’t leave me in here,” he says. “I need to get home to my husband and my kids. Please. I can’t die in here.”
Maeve makes a very quick decision, probably the most spontaneous decision she’s ever made since transferring to the 118. “I’m not leaving you,” Maeve tells the injured man. “Here, put this mask on. You need it more than me.” She pulls off her oxygen mask and puts it on Ethan’s face. The smoke hits her eyes, and she tears up.
“Maeve,” Buck begins. “Grab your mask. We need to go.”
She shakes her head. “I’m not going anywhere, Buck,” she tells him. “Not unless we can bring Ethan with us. Help me remove this slab so we can bring him with us.”
Eddie chimes in. “Maeve, the slab may be compressing veins and if we remove that, he might bleed out before we can even get him into the ambulance. We need to go, now.”
“No,” Maeve says, holding her ground. “I’m not leaving.”
Buck’s eyes are wide and Bobby’s voice comes over the radio. “Buckley, Diaz, Grier, do you copy?”
Buck says into the radio, “We copy and we’re coming, Cap.” He looks at Maeve. “Let’s go, Maeve.”
Ethan’s looking at the three of them as they make their decisions. “I’m staying, Buck,” Maeve chokes out. “I can’t leave him here to die. If he does end up dying, it’s not going to be alone.”
Then there’s a huge boom. The building shakes and the ceiling begins to come down. Maeve pushes both Buck and Eddie out of the room before something hits her head and she blacks out.
The last thing she heads is Buck calling her name.
***
Buck was terrified that this would happen one day. That Maeve would play the hero and get hurt. He doesn’t know what’s happening on the other side of the blocked door.
“Maeve!” Buck is shouting, straining to hear if Maeve says anything. “Maeve, can you hear me?”
Bobby asks over the radio of the three of them are okay, and Eddie answers. “Buck and I are fine,” he states. “Maeve is trapped in a room with an injured man. We can’t get to her without some tools, Cap.”
Buck tries to clear the doorway with his hands, but the concrete slabs are too thick, and he can’t move them. “Maeve, please say something if you can hear me!”
Maeve might be hurt; Maeve might be dead. Maeve needs to be saved because Buck refuses to let Harper lose both her parents before she’s eleven.
“Buckley, get back!” Bobby shouts. Hen and Chimney begin to dig at the concrete separating Buck from the woman that he fell in love with.
He realized that recently while lying in his bed, lazily kissing her after a round of sex. Both of them were panting and covered in a layer of sweat, but Maeve was beautiful. So damn beautiful, and Buck couldn’t see a life without her in it. Her and Harper. He almost blurted it out right then and there, but he knew that Maeve probably wasn’t ready to say it back. Maeve may not even feel the same way that Buck does.
The concrete crumbles after a few minutes of working on it and Buck can finally get inside the room.
Maeve lays unconscious by the door. Small pieces of rock surround her and are on her jacket. Her eyes are closed, and Buck can’t tell if she’s breathing or not.
The man, Ethan, lays dead in the corner.
Buck is quick to pick Maeve up, holding her bridal style. “You are not dying on me, Maeve Grier,” Buck groans as he picks her up. “You are not leaving me and you’re sure as hell not leaving Harper.”
“Buck,” Eddie calls, getting Buck’s attention. “Get her in the back of the ambulance. I’ll drive. Hook her up to oxygen because who knows how much smoke she’s inhaled.”
She wasn’t in there for that long. Twenty minutes, tops.
He does what Eddie says to do though. Buck is quick to get Maeve into the ambulance. He finds that his cheeks are wet as he works on Maeve in the back of the ambulance. He checks her pulse, finding that it’s strong. He hooks Maeve up to 100% oxygen.
But she’s still unconscious. Blood oozes from the head wound she probably sustained when she fell to the found, causing a crimson mask to form on her face. Buck wipes it away with a towel.
Buck takes Maeve’s hand in his. “Stay with me, Maeve,” he whispers, but he knows that Eddie can hear him from the driver’s seat. “I can’t lose you, Maeve. You need to stay with me because I-” No. He won’t tell Maeve he loves her for the first time while she’s unconscious in an ambulance.
Eddie looks back at Buck through the rearview mirror. “Because you love her,” Eddie finishes for him.
“Yeah,” he sighs, pushing a loose strand of hair out of Maeve’s face. “I do.”
***
Beep. Beep. Beep.
Maeve finally comes to, but she’s not laying on the hard ground as expected. She’s laying in a soft bed. When her eyes flutter open, Maeve’s greeted by a white light.
She thinks she’s dead for a second before the white goes away and she finds out that she’s staring up at the light on the ceiling.
Maeve glances around the room, eyes landing on someone lying beside her with is head on her hand.
“Buck,” Maeve croaks out.
His head shoots up, eyes wide. “Hey,” he says, smiling. He brings Maeve’s hand up and kisses her knuckles. “How are you feeling?”
She swallows. “Like I got hit by a train,” she replies. “How long was I out for?”
Buck frowns. “Three days,” he tells her. “Harper’s been saying with Eddie and Christopher. I was going to let her stay with me until you were able to go home but I thought that you’d like to introduce me to her on your own terms. She seems to be okay, even after Eddie told her what happened to you.”
Maeve looks at Buck. “And you?” she asks. “Are you okay?”
The question causes tears to form in Buck’s eyes. “I was terrified, Maeve,” he admits. “We broke through the concrete, and you were just lying on the floor. You looked dead, and I thought that I had lost you.”
“Hey,” Maeve says. “I’m right here, Buck.” She lifts her hand and rests it on Buck’s cheek. “I’m not going anywhere.”
He leans into the touch for a second before Buck leans into Maeve, pressing a light kiss to her lips. It only lasts a second before Buck pulls back. Maeve moves a bit and pats the bed beside her. “Come here, Evan,” she says.
Buck hesitates for a second before he crawls into the bed with Maeve, avoiding any important wires. Maeve curls up to Buck before she falls asleep again.
***
Days later, Maeve is discharged. Buck drives her to her house. Harper’s staying with Eddie for one more night before coming home tomorrow, and Buck is going to stay with Maeve tonight.
Maeve crawls into her bed. She smiles as soon as her head hits the pillow. “I’ve missed my bed,” she sighs.
Buck laughs and sits beside her. “Do you need anything?” he asks. “Something to drink? Something to eat?”
“No,” Maeve states, grabbing one of Buck’s hands. “I just want cuddles with you. Please.”
He happily obliges, crawling into bed beside Maeve. She lays against him, her head on his chest. Maeve listens to his heart beat in his chest. Buck’s arms wrap securely around her shoulders, almost like he’s protecting her from the world.
They lay in silence, but Maeve’s mind won’t stop talking. She enjoys spending time with Buck, even outside of work. She enjoys the cuddles, the kisses, the sex. Buck’s amazing, and he genuinely care for her. He cares for Harper even though he’s never really met her.
Maeve’s fallen for Evan Buckley, but she’s scared to tell him that she loves him. Last time she said that she loved someone, it ended up with an officer showing up at her doorstep to tell her that Luke had died.
“Maeve?” Buck whispers near her ear.
Her eyes close and she goes, “Hm?”
Buck’s quiet for a second before he says softly. “I love you.” Maeve feels her heart skip a beat in her chest. Buck loves her. “I love you, and it’s okay if you don’t feel the same way. I know you’re probably not ready to say it back to me, and I’ll wait if you do love me back but are too scared to say it. I just wanted you to know that I’m in love with you, and I’m in love with Harper even though I haven’t met her yet. If she’s anything like her mother, then I’m so excited to meet her.”
She lifts her head up and smiles. “I do feel the same, Buck,” she tells him, which causes Buck to smile. “But I’m scared to say it. Last time I did, Luke died.”
“That’s okay,” Buck states. “I’ll wait until you’re ready to say it.”
Maeve leans up and captures Buck’s lips in a soft kiss.
I love you too, Buck.

The Horny Cinematography of Seasons 4 and 5 of Supernatural
So I made this kinda silly post about how horny the late Kripke era of Supernatural was and it was mostly meant as a joke, but then it got me thinking. So I did a little bit of digging, went through some memorable scenes, and noticed some actual patterns in the way Dean and Castiel are shot versus other characters. Disclaimer: this is not exactly a scientific analysis. I didn’t rewatch the entire two seasons for this and there are probably shots with other characters that I missed that go against it, but this is just the general trend that I noticed.
Click on the images for higher resolution. Analysis is under the cut.
So the general premise of this analysis is that Cas and Dean are shot noticeably close-up, typically staring intensely into each other’s eyes. I think we all know about the whole staring thing, but the actual close-ups were way more intense then I think some people might realize, especially when compared to other interactions between different characters. Cas in particular is shot very close-up frequently whether he’s talking to someone else or by himself (there are so many gorgeous close-ups of Misha in season 4), but the intense eye contact is pretty much only with Dean.
It starts off almost immediately in 4x01 Lazarus Rising where in Dean and Castiel’s very first interaction, they stand very close and the camera focuses on their faces. First we have two close-ups, then in what is maybe my favorite shot in all of Supernatural, Castiel steps in closer to Dean and the close-ups get even tighter. He tilts his head and stares thoughtfully at Dean with those big blue eyes. Cut to Dean’s look of discomfort after being told (very accurately) “you don’t think you deserve to be saved.”
Tumblr media
Things amp up in literally Castiel’s second appearance in 4x02 Are You There God? It’s Me, Dean Winchester with one of the horniest Destiel scenes in the show (again this is only their second interaction!) We have Castiel unexpectedly showing up at Bobby’s house, Dean sassing him, and Castiel stepping very close to Dean and saying “You should show me some respect. I dragged you out of Hell. I can throw you back in.” This is a very tense interaction with some beautiful low key lighting that pretty much went extinct after season 5. Notice how tight the frame is, even compared to 4x01. These are extreme close-ups where both Dean and Castiel’s chins and foreheads are cut out of the frame.
Tumblr media
Castiel’s third appearance in 4x03 In the Beginning is a lot more prominent as he has many scenes throughout the episode instead of just one. I’m not gonna include pictures of all of them because there’s lot, but there are plenty of close-ups and intense gazes between the two (e.g. sitting on the bed, “Hello Dean. What were you dreaming about?” which according to Misha, Kim manners said was “too gay” but they did it like that anyway) and contains the first time they touch and the first time they are shot in more high key lighting. Go rewatch the episode if you want to see more lovely close-ups between Dean and Cas.
Next I would like to draw your attention to episode 4x07 It’s the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester. This is Castiel’s fourth appearance and the first time we see him interact with a character who’s not Dean. This is where the differences between how they’re shot start to become apparent. First we have Sam’s first interaction with Castiel (greetings blood freak) that is shot with standard close-ups. Eventually, Dean comes in, conversation happens blah blah blah and we get to the more intense discussion about how the angels want to destroy the town. The discussion is between Dean, Cas, Sam, and Uriel, but Dean and Cas get most of the focus. The camera tells us that they are the main subjects in this scene. Dean and Cas are shot more close-up and tighter and they are standing closer and looking in each others eyes unlike Sam who is looking back and forth between them and standing a few steps back.
Tumblr media
Of course this doesn’t stop in season 4. Here is a similar example from 5x02 Good God, Ya’ll! but the difference between Dean and Cas and Sam is even more obvious. This is the “I'm hunted, I rebelled, and I did it, all of it, for you,” exchange which I find interesting. Some people could say here that Cas means “you” plural as in Sam and Dean but the Camera is so focused on just Dean and Cas while Sam just sorta hangs there in the background.
Tumblr media
One thing that I think is interesting is that these types of shots-extreme close-ups with two characters looking into each other’s eyes and standing no feet apart-are not necessarily exclusive to Dean and Cas, but they are usually in a different context. Pretty much all (at least that I could remember) the other examples of this type of shot are between one character and a villain. Below we have three fairly intense confrontations between characters, Sam and Uriel in 4x07 It’s the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester, Dean and Alastair in 4x16 On the Head of a Pin, and Dean and Cas in 4x22 Lucifer Rising. The composition is almost exactly the same with similar lighting as well, but one of these things is not like the other. Very obviously Cas is not a villain and this scene in particular is a huge moment for his character that cements his decision to fully rebel against Heaven for Dean.
Tumblr media
Also characters that tend to be that close together looking into each other’s eyes in two shots are usually villains except for Dean and Cas. Below we have a shot of Ruby and Sam very close together right before he drinks her blood and a very close-up shot of Dean and Alastair both in 4x16 On the Head of a Pin. Compare that to the two shot from 4x02 Are You There God? It’s Me, Dean Winchester above for example. There is a certain sexual nature in these two villain scenes (and a lot of villain interactions on Supernatural in general). Obviously, Sam and Ruby are literally having sex, but Alastair is also portrayed as a villain who sexually objectifies his victims (the torture scene with Ruby, calling Dean “Daddy’s little girl, etc.) but Cas is not a villain and yet the framing is very similar.
Tumblr media
Now I want to compare two fight scenes, one in season 4 and one in season 5. Here we have the fight scene between Ruby and Sam in 4x09 I Know What You Did Last Summer. Ruby is of course a sexy lady who Sam sleeps with in a sexy fight scene where she “proves” that she wants to help Sam by killing the other demon instead of Sam. But of course, the fight scene in 5x18 Point of No Return is shot way more close-up and Dean and Cas are inches away from each other. While I wouldn’t described this scene as “sexy” (Cas is literally beating Dean to a pulp) it is way more charged...intimate isn’t exactly the right word but there’s a similar but more intense erotic energy than in the fight scene with Ruby.
Unrelated side note: there is a great use of breaking the 180 degree rule in this scene that I think works way better in this instance at disorienting the viewer than the shaky cam does.
Tumblr media
Next I have some random examples I noticed that show some of the different shots between characters. We have Anna in 4x10 Heaven and Hell right before she has sex with Dean. It’s fairly close-up, but still pretty loose framing compared to a lot of scenes between Dean and Cas. Anna’s entire face is still in the frame. Then we have a scene between Sam and Ruby in 4x09 I Know What You Did Last Summer that is also not as close-up as a lot of Dean and Cas scenes. On the bottom is a shot from 5x17 99 Problems which is I think the closest Sam and Cas physically get in these seasons before they ever hug. It’s more of a medium close-up than most of the scenes between Dean and Cas where they get that close. Lastly I have probably the tightest close-ups between Dean and Cas from 4x16 On the Head of a Pin. It’s similar to the shots from 4x02 but the context is pretty different with Cas trying to reassure Dean about the apocalypse. I know these don’t really have a theme but I thought they were good examples of the general pattern.
Tumblr media
Finally I would like to point out a scene that is sort of the opposite which is the infamous staring scene in 4x21 When the Levee Breaks that goes on for like an hour. I don’t really know what to say about this scene only that I can’t believe it’s real. They literally just stand and stare at each other.
Tumblr media
So what’s the point of all this? I honestly don’t really know. None of these observations are hard and fast rules and I’m sure there are times when other characters are shot like this. However, Dean and Cas seem to be the only ones consistently framed this way-tight close-ups, staring into each other’s eyes standing zero feet apart. What does it all mean? To me it shows that their bond is unique and special (profound you might say). It’s not even like they’re shot in a similar manner to love interests, it’s that their framing is unique, it stands out. Was it on purpose? Maybe. How shots end up looking is interesting because it really is the work of a lot of different people including the director, the cinematographer, the editors and more. I don’t think they were thinking “we should film Dean and Cas in this very intense way because they’re in love” or anything, but they obviously recognized there was something special between these two characters. And truly, the intentions don’t matter all that much to me. What’s there is there, and watching it the first time around I noticed how close Dean and Cas always were and watching it back post 15x18 all those shots stand out even more to me. There’s really no conclusion here, but I think it’s interesting to look a bit more closely at the cinematography in TV shows that we don’t always think of as having the highest quality production. There’s a lot of layers to be discovered outside of scripts and acting and things we tend to focus on more as viewers.

“did i make you blush?” | buddie week (day 1)
info: evan buckley x eddie diaz (warnings: canon-typical violence)
read on ao3
When Buck looks up at Eddie with a playful gleam in his eyes, he's not expecting to see a redness that isn't just a reflection of the siren lights. Eddie pours hydrogen peroxide over Buck's gash just as the latter says, "Ooh, Diaz, did I make you blush?"
"For that, you're getting stitches."
"Hey, hey- no- what about butterfly bandages, yeah? Please?"
/
The fog is hanging heavy in the air by the time the 118 roll up onto the overpass. The moon does her best to cut through the layer of haze and give them some light to work with, but her attempts are futile. The strobing red and blue of the first responders' lights do nothing to increase visibility, instead painting long streaks of color through the fog as they reflect and bounce off of droplets of moisture.
The bumper-to-bumper traffic creates a cacophony of horns and rumbling engines that is all-too-familiar to Buck. The hiss of the fire engine's brakes means go time, and Buck is up and putting boots to pavement before the truck even stills.
He stands at a vantage point between two police cars to access the scene. Beside him, he clocks a familiar silhouette come to do to the same.
"What do we got?" Bobbie yells over the noise of traffic, both below and beside them.
From here, Buck can see over the edge of the overpass, and notices an aura of red and blue rising up from below, as well. A chunk of the barrier is missing, and what is left is blackened with rubber and metal. He shares a glance with Eddie.
"Two cars went over! One is still hanging on! We secured the vehicle to our rig, and the driver is conscious and needs an extraction."
Buck and Eddie are moving before Bobby says anything. With practiced ease, they click open the lockers on the side of the truck and dig out the rappelling gear.
"You going down?" Eddie asks, already looping the rope through the belaying device attached to his own harness.
"Only if you're topside," Buck quips, stepping into his harness and pulling it tight. He ignores the fond, exasperated shake of the head Eddie gives in return.
Buck fastens all the buckles he can reach, and then turns so Eddie can finish them for him. He feels the click of the final buckles more than he hears them, and then comes the sensation of Eddie running his hands underneath the straps to check them. His whole upper body jostles as Eddie yanks a few of them as tight as they go, and then gives Buck a final, teasing tug before clapping his hands on his shoulders; his way of saying, Good to go.
Buck's back is still radiating with warmth when he turns to double-check Eddie's ropes. He gives the knot by the belay a cursory tightening, forearms straining against the material of his undershirt, and then they're off, jogging to the cliff of the overpass.
Hen has just finished setting up the attachments for the ropes, and goes to hook Eddie in while Buck snags the loose end and fastens it into his own harness. With practiced ease he winds, clips, and tightens before waiting for Eddie's tug on his end. He gets it, and gives one tug back before looking over his shoulder and backing up towards the ledge.
The rope goes taut and he strains against it, leaning back more than he's upright as he plants his feet against the crumbling cement. The car is nearly hanging loose, one crooked wheel all that's snagged on the rebar from the overpass. Through the tinted windows, reflecting red and blue, he can see a lock of blonde hair.
"Be smart," comes Eddie's voice in his headset, but he's too focused on inching down towards the car to give a reply.
He kicks off the edge of the overpass and Eddie lets him down just far enough to be eye-level with the backseat. Through the blur of cracked glass and what he hopes isn't blood, he's able to confirm there isn't anyone in the backseat.
He yanks the rope once, and Eddie lowers him farther. When Buck is in a good spot to assess the driver, he tugs twice sharply, but Eddie's already stopped lowering him by that point. He always knows just how far Buck will want to go.
The window is rolled up, so Buck takes the glass breaker from his pocket and smashes in the window. He reaches a gloved hand in and smacks away the shards, checking to make sure they haven't hurt the driver, but she's still unconscious and leaning away from the window.
He fumbles with the lock and then the handle, and the door to the car creaks open. He stops it before it can shift the weight of the car too dramatically, and radios up: "Opening the door!"
"Copy," Hen says, and he lets the door swing open.
The car rocks and creaks ominously, and there's a bit of shouting from above Buck. He waits for someone to say something through the headset, but nothing comes, and so he braces himself in the doorway and leans in to check the driver.
Her pulse is strong, but her breathing is labored and she's still unconscious. Her collarbones are already blue from where the airbag had crushed her, and Buck suspects a broken rib at least- hopefully not a punctured lung.
She's starting to gain consciousness as Buck reaches around to secure a harness in case the whole thing goes south- literally.
"Whe- what the fuck-?" she screams, startling, and the entire car moves about two feet father down. "Fuck!"
"Hey, hey," Buck says, quickly doing the buckles on the harness and then reaching behind him for the backboard he knows should be dangling nearby. "I'm a firefighter, we're gonna get you out, but you've gotta be still."
"Buck?" Eddie asks, "How we doing?"
"She's conscious, assessing for spinal injury then extracting," he radios back, before turning to the girl. "Are you hurt anywhere?"
"My chest," she wheezes. "Can't breathe."
"Crush injury," Buck spouts off to his team topside, then, "Can you feel your legs?"
"Yeah," she breathes, and then a gust of wind buffets the car like its a kite. "Jesus Christ!"
"Get her out of there, Buck!" Bobby yells, "We're losing the car, it's going to be hanging from the rig any minute."
"Grab onto me," he instructs, slicing her seatbelt off with his knife and clipping her harness to him. "Hang onto my neck, I've got you."
"Now, Buck!" Eddie yells, his voice crackling over the radio- and there's an edge to it that Buck isn't sure has always been there, but maybe that's just because the-.
The car is falling.
It's slipping, then there's an echoing snap, and it's falling. Buck's rope is pulled upward just in time, and he's able to pull the woman out of the way of the car enough that only her shins knock against the frame as it whizzes past. The door catches Buck in the temple, and he feels the hot sting of blood as it rolls down the planes of his face.
There's a sickening crunch below them, and a plume of smoke rises. Then, a tinny, broken car alarm sounds, just in case no one had noticed there was a bit of trouble.
"Buckley, report."
"Made it out just in time," he radios back to Bobby, a little breathless. "Thanks, Diaz."
"Dumbass," Eddie shoots off, and then he's being pulled upwards.
A few short moments later he's handing the girl off to Hen, and then he's breathing a sigh of relief as his feet hit solid ground. Well, as solid as any ground can be when it's really chunks of cement suspended fifty feet above the earth.
"Didn't have time to get her on the backboard," Buck pants as Bobby strides over to him. He's digging his fingers underneath the now impossibly-tight harness, trying to undo the knots.
Bobby claps him on the shoulder, "I know. Good work. Get that head checked out, okay?"
"What head?" Eddie's asking, standing at Buck's other side as if he'd just materialized. "What did you do?"
"I didn't do anything," Buck defends, giving up on getting the knot undone with his gloved fingers. "Someone pulled me up right into the corner of a door."
"Would you prefer he'd have let you get taken down with the car?" Eddie mutters, before stepping close and deftly undoing the first of the knots on Buck's harness.
With the straps loosened enough to be comfortable, Eddie guides Buck to the bumper of an ambulance and shoves him into a sitting position. Nearby, the girl is laying on a stretcher, conscious and conversing with police while Hen tends to her.
The sting of gauze being pressed to his head jerks Buck's attention back, and he winces before he can think about it.
"Sorry," Eddie murmurs, looking underneath the gauze to assess the amount of blood. "I'll be quick."
"Hey, are you alright?" the girl yells, looking over her shoulder at Buck.
"Me?" he puts a hand on his chest, looks behind him-, "Uh, yeah. Are- are you?"
Eddie huffs a laugh as he trades the gauze pad for a clean one, wiping the edge of the wound as his blood begins to clot- a minor miracle, when Buck is concerned.
"You know," the girl shrugs, which earns her a grimace as her broken collarbone jostles in the sling Hen had fit it with. "Been better. Hey, you're pretty good at that rope shit."
"Can't do it without this guy," he tilts his head to Eddie, who smacks him on the shoulder (gently) in retaliation. "It's all him."
"Well, you did smack my legs into the ca- ow-," she cuts off as Hen begins loading the stretcher into the ambulance. "Just kidding. Thank you both!"
Please?"

Destiel is Canon
Then Destiel is censored
Destiel meta. 15x20 meta.
I know I said I will write the meta tomorrow, but i just had to do this because I won't sleep untill I scream what it just came out to my head.
I always said i don't like Dabb, I love Berens and Yockey, and then Yockey left earlier, and i guess now i know why.
Put the Wincest subtext to a side, and hear the desperate message from the writers.
Ordinary Life
Ordinary Life sounded like some kind of monotonous prison. They woke up each morning, and search for cases... Saving people hunting things. But not with good enthusiasm.
Dabb's pie burried on the face
Dean goes to eat a huge amount of Dabb's pie but Sam hurries one on his face, that's symbolism of a bad joke, a mocking. Just like the last ending from 15x19, this was like OKAY, ALL THE TEAM.WORK, RIGHT ON YOUR FACE. Do you follow me?
Because the whole clues and evidences about subtext we saw the writers delivered us, went right buried as that pie on our faces. And that was the writers feelings about it too.
Just Berens finished the work, as someone said in Twitter.
They killed the Destiel Mirror
The guy in blue (Cas mirror) and the wan I'm green (Dean mirror) were savagely killed by the EVIL VAMP CLOWNS (WINCEST SHIPPER) then, they kidnapped the two kids (Sam and Dean mirror, they even had the looks and the hair) THEY CUT DEAN AND CAS MIRROR TONGUES AS A SYMBOLISM OF THEY COULDN'T TALK ABOUT IT. THEY COULDN'T TALK ANOUT DESTIEL. And then they took the kids to slowly preparing them for food.
Castiel mirror even died like Cas died in 12x23.
Kill the clowns
Another symbolism and message was how all the vamp clowns were killed. That was us. They killed our hopes. And then they killed Dean, because the Carry On song says it. Because it was his destiny. Dean even said it. That was the ending that 30% old the fandom wanted. Because they will be reunited in Heaven. And be together forever. With the third lead: Baby.
Oh, don't forget Sam with random chick had a son named Dean, and dies old. He had his apple pie life with hunting addition.
Okay. This wasn't our ending neither.
Stealing Subtext
All my specs about holding hands, The ILY from Dean to Cas, were stolen and given to Wincest. There you go. The pie burried on our faces.
Bobby comes to save it
Bobby as a representation of FAMILY DOESN'T END IN BLOOD embassador is sitting on the bench, drinking a beer. He offers Dean the beer and then asks if Dean likes it. And Dean says HE DOESN'T LIKE IT.
Symbolically we can take it DEAN DOESN'T LIKE THE ENDING. JENSEN DIDN'T LIKE THE ENDING. NO OME LIKS THE ENDING.
Then, this scene we stick...
Gif set credit my dear friend @spnsmile
Tumblr media
Look at Bobby face after Dean makes that question. Is like kind of anxious bc he is about to reveal something that is supposed not to talk about it, but he knows Dean will like to hear. Because Bobby knows Dean's feelings for Cas.
Tumblr media
And he goes with the news of Cas is out, he is in Heaven. He went out from the Empty. And helped Jack. And immediately looks at Dean to see his reaction.
Tumblr media
Dean and Bobby exchange silent looks, but then Bobby goes: SEE? YOU HAVE A SECOND CHANCE, YOU HAVE YOUR ANGEL HERE. and the hint of YES I KNOW IT.
Tumblr media
Then Dean chuckles, okay, of course, he has the whole time to go get Cas, but this is another message. Because it looks like Bobby didn't know if telling or not at first.
Should I tell Cas is alive?
Is the sensation you got when you see him doubting in the first gif. He purses his lips but then he decides to say it. Because he is our embassador. Thank you Bobby.
To Conclude:
They kidnapped Sam and Dean, they obligated to feed the bad clowns. They cut the Destiel's tongue. They buried the pie on Dean's face. They mocked again the bro-only ending. They wrote something that some worst that Chuck wanted: Censoring Network.
They weren't free after all.
So we didn't carry on.
Let's fix this mess together.
I want to say I'm sorry deeply for spreading hopes, but as I said, all the analysis and subtext and evidences i put into words were real, and it was there. They just didn't decide to do it. At last not entirely. Thank you for reading me and cementing.
Love you all!
Destiel is Forever!

And we're that much closer Buddie peeps
When Taylor looked so worried as Buck walked in, I actually was glad. I was like 'okay if he isn't going to be with Eddie and Christopher, at least he's getting to come home to someone who cares about him and was worried for him after this ordeal'. And then I saw the look. The sort of side eye. Then I saw her interrogation under the guise of concern. Then I remembered the wording of her phone call when Buck was walking in. And then I immediately went 'yep'.
This relationship isn't going to be long lasting. And if there is anymore alleged "ethical conflict" between Eddie and Taylor happening, here it be... And just starting. (something we won't see progress until we see what happens in 5x08) It's going to be all about either this particular case or about her getting the info from Buck and using it in another case.
Don't get me wrong, I like Taylor but they are not holding back in letting the audience know that something is very wrong with Buck and Taylor's relationship. It almost seems as if both are being performative or going through the motions. They're both trying but it's obvious there's a disconnect that we still haven't seen be addressed or truly brought to the forefront. But it's there.
Plus, Eddie being the one to suggest using Taylor's reporter cred to Mitchell about getting the story of his son spread around vs Taylor not reporting on the story but so obviously trying to get information from Buck about it? Hello parallels, my old friend.
And they even gave us the contrast of the scene between Buck and Taylor vs the sweet heartwarming one with Eddie and Christopher. After they just had Eddie and Buck spaced out in the hospital waiting room (even though we know they were both clearly concerned about one another when being taken hostage, and we saw Buck's panic when he heard the gunshot) and very uncharacteristically not showing us any kind of emotional resolution for these two this episode (though it clearly calls back to the emotions for both in 4x13 and 4x14 & Buck "no one will ever fight for my son as hard as you" reacting each time Christopher is mentioned and even gets clocked in the head for it). And we also don't see Eddie panic even though he's on the other end of a gun again and he is one cool customer...
It's all coming together, folks. I'm not saying we'll get canon Buddie immediately but the final pieces are being moved into place.
Can't wait for 5x08.

Dreams, Chapter 14
If you haven’t read this series before, you might want to start on Chapter 1, or check out the Dreams Masterlist! Here’s the series description:
When Dean dies for good leaving Sam and his girlfriend (the reader) behind, they must figure out how to carry on without him. Alone, reeling, and unsure what to do next, trying to honor Dean’s memory and follow their hearts gets even more complicated when their nightmares become dreams that feel a little too real.
Title: Dreams, Chapter 14
Pairing: (past) Dean Winchester x Reader, (eventual) Sam Winchester x Reader
Word Count: 1976
Summary: Once more, a moment at the bar shifts the relationship between Sam and the reader irrevocably.
Warnings: angst, FLUFF, swearing, s l o w  b u r n, this section has a little gentle smut
Tumblr media
It was sweet, actually, taking things slowly enough that Sam didn’t feel an acute sense of betraying Dean. You started kissing in stolen moments like teenagers, accidentally honking the horn of the Impala before taking over from the day shift and walking in shyly with swollen lips and mussed hair, tasting the orange juice off of his lips after breakfast.
Never more than that save a fumbled glancing grope here or there, Sam sometimes having to break away for a long walk in the brisk winter air before going to sleep with you at night, you taking extended showers to deal with the building tension. He simply wasn’t ready, and the additional closeness was already so much more than you’d had anyway, almost too much stimulation to handle. Not that it really made sense to you, that this was somehow different in his mind, but it didn’t matter.
Dean came to you in your dreams with increasing regularity. He started teaching you how to go to places you hadn’t been, or hadn’t been with him, slowly reconstructing the bar and the cabin so you could show him around your new life. Sam had been right, of course, and Dean did love the bar as you showed it to him, scuffed floors and ever-present stickiness of the cash register included.
It felt pretty real. And who’s to say it wasn’t, because it was really Dean and it was really you, the whiskey really poured and made his lips taste peaty like they always had. More than that, it was enough. You were able to relish your time together, drink Dean in while you slept feeling less desperate knowing that you’d see him again soon. The days got easier too, waking up warm inside from Dean and outside from the firm protection of Sam’s body. Neither Winchester ever told you what they did or talked about in their time together, but Sam got looser and looser. You had almost forgotten how goofy he could be, how enthusiastic and fun he was Before Everything, but the longer he spent dreaming with Dean the more he reminded you of that guy—the affectionate, quick-witted boy you’d split cans of Spaghetti-o’s with at Bobby’s a lifetime ago.
Going to work felt like a little game sometimes. Periodically one of the customers would comment on the way Sam always seemed to wait until you were right in front of the fruit before going to refill it so he had to press the length of his body against yours. Often you’d have to help him finish his side work before closing up together, having hung off him all night in a way that prevented him from getting everything done until it was just the two of you together in the darkened bar cutting up limes as your shoulders brushed against each other. The regulars thought you were finally comfortable enough to show them a little PDA, that you’d been secretly like this all along, and there was no other explanation you could give them. Like everything else, you rolled with their assumptions and got that same giddy-hot feeling in your chest and throat every time they said it—like you were being teased about some juvenile crush.
The Wednesday it finally happened you were having a normal day at work, catching those little jabs after Sam snaked a bottle opener out of your back pocket while you rattled a shaker of martinis. He kissed your hair with a smirk when he passed by you, carefully not jostling your arms as you poured the drinks into chilled glassware. When you went to refill Joe’s pint of Spotted Cow, you noticed the tap start to stutter and foam the last dregs of an empty keg and raised your head to tell Sam it was out.
He was leaning on his elbow, ankles crossed where the long stretch of his body met the floor and talking to Jake, clearly telling some joke from the way Jake cracked up and gave him that snapping handshake men often exchange instead of hugs. The smile on his face was just smug enough to show he knew whatever he’d said was funny, and more than anything he looked relaxed, looked comfortable. Looked like he belonged there, the reflection off green glassed whiskey bottles making his eyes seem lit from within. You decided to change the beer yourself and leave him in peace; the bar was slow enough that he could handle it alone for a few minutes, limited cocktail experience or not.
Every time you went into the basement at work to change a keg you were amazed that Sam even fit in the room where they were stored; it was back at the end of the walk-in cooler with ceilings so low even you felt claustrophobic there. Aluminum kegs in varied states of fullness stacked by their respective lines, marked by stickers and tags of indeterminate ages, were in a sort of half-organization around the walls. Based on how fast Sam changed them when one went empty, you were pretty sure he would know instinctively which ones were which, but as it was you had to climb around the makeshift aluminum jungle gym to trace each looping hose back to its source. You finally found the empty Spotted Cow and the line that would tie it to its respective tap in the corner. To get there you’d had to hop on top of two others, one foot on a fresh Bud Light and the other on some Coors while your spine curved to avoid hitting your head on the ceiling. Unfastening the tap from the empty keg, you yanked back to tug it off and slipped on some extra moisture on top of the metal. It sent you off balance enough that you grabbed at the tubing at the end of the tap you were holding in an effort to stay on your feet.
The hose pulled out of the line system and sprayed the rest of the beer within all over the room and you, brown ale getting in your mouth and eyes and sending you careening to the ground, tugging the empty keg on top of you with a huge clatter. You rolled it off of you, thanking God it was empty, and tried not to think too hard about the age of the beer remnant mixture leeching off the cement floor into your t shirt as you got up. By the time you got back to your feet, Sam was standing in the doorway, slightly out of breath with a look of concern on his face.
“Are you okay? What happened?” he asked, surveying the scene.
You still had the keg tap and hose in your hand, completely detached from the wall. “I was going to change the Spotted Cow but I couldn’t reach the back so I had to climb and then I…slipped.” Sam’s face smoothed in relief when he saw the smile spreading across your face. “And broke it.”
           “But you’re okay?”
“Probably going to have a pretty kickass bruise tomorrow and I’m covered in beer but yeah, I’m okay. Sorry I pulled it out; do you know how to fix it?”
Sam smiled, his dimples carving into his cheeks. “I’ll figure it out.”
You pouted around your embarrassment and sheepishly handed him the tap. “I should probably get back upstairs,” you offered, shaking your wet shirt away from your body.
“I’m, uh, I’m ready.” Sam murmured, rubbing the back of his neck shyly.
“Do you need me to go get tools or something?”
“No—I mean, like, ready.” He raised his eyebrows meaningfully and the emphasis crashed into you hard enough that it almost sent you careening back into the kegs.
“Ready ready?” you breathed, sounding stupid and not caring, wanting to bound over and leap into Sam’s arms.
“Ready read—” and Sam was cut off by your lips on his, taking a sharp inhale against your cheek as he kissed you. After a beat of electric shock Sam twined into the hair at the nape of your neck, his fingers hot from washing dishes and soothing in the air of the cooler. You slid down the soft flannel of his shirt and wrapped up fistfuls of it, desperate to have him closer, closer, closer, feel the firm slopes of his body when you weren’t sleeping. He groaned into you and it sent a shudder down your spine as you slipped down the edge of his jaw to kiss along the broad expanse of his neck, tendons squirming under your lips and the thrum of his blood pumping fast and hard.
Sam moved a hand to your lower back and bent down to scoop under a hamstring, gently but swiftly lifting and spinning so you were pressed up against the doorframe by his body, hitched up in the air to better reach his face. You gasped and felt Sam’s smile against your mouth, wrapping your legs around his waist and greedily roaming the muscles in his chest as they flexed to carry you. The way the wall pinned you to Sam made it so easy to rock into him, feel the metal of his belt buckle through the worn cotton of your jeans and the heat seep through his shirt into the sticky beer drying on yours. “I—oh fuck—” Sam stammered between kisses as you rolled your hips, trying to balance the need to catch his breath with the pent-up magnetism between you. “We have—Jesus Christ, ah—there are customers upstairs,” he finally spit out.
That zapped you back to reality, finally breaking away to press your forehead against his. “Fuck,” you moaned. A long second passed, sharing air between you and Sam as he held you suspended. “Do we care?” you murmured hopefully against closed eyes, smiling.
Sam chuckled, breathy and low as he lowered you to the ground softly. “Unless you have another way of paying rent.”
You gently knocked your head into Sam’s chest. “Man, couldn’t sit on that for a few more hours? How am I supposed to work the rest of the night?”
He ran his tongue over his molars as he grabbed the tap from where it had fallen to the ground, accepting the gentle teasing. “I just—I don’t know, you were just standing there and it all kind of—it just made sense all of a sudden.”
“The stale beer did it for you? If I knew that I would’ve broken all of the lines ages ago.” You bit your lip against your smile, suddenly a little bashful and exposed and feeling every drying drop of beer across your chest.
“I um, might have another t-shirt in the car if you want me to check.”
“Thanks. I can get it though, can I have the keys?”
Sam snaked a hand into his pocket and you could see the muscles in his forearm ripple as he grabbed them for you. He handed the keys over, his face open and vulnerable even with the hint of smirk. Tapping the keys against the doorframe you stalled for time, wanting more than anything to have even just an hour without responsibilities. You reached out and stroked his arm. “You’re sure about this? It’s okay if you’re—”
Sam’s head bobbed quickly. “Yeah. Yes, I’m sure.” He looked solemn, resolute in a way that reassured you. “I’m sorry it took—”
“Nothing to be sorry about. I just wanted to check.”
He closed the step between you, tucking a chunk of hair behind your ear and gazing down into your eyes. “I know. And thank you for that.” He kissed you on the forehead, grinning into your hair. “Now go change, you smell like a frat party.”
You pushed playfully against his chest and made your way upstairs, leaving him smiling at your back as you walked away.

You got any trans man dean headcanons? 👀
I don’t know when u sent this so sorry if I’m answering late!!!
Also I just have the basic bitch set of trans dean headcanons tbh but they make me go feral so I will repeat them!!
- lazurus rising when cas brought dean back he put him in the body he’s always deserved (the mirror scene lives in my head rent free baby!)
- teenage dean stealing testosterone from hospitals and pharmacies when he had the chance bc they moved around too much for him to have a stable prescription pickup plan
- John being pissed for awhile that dean’s not his “perfect little girl” like he thought but getting over it bc dean is so determined to emulate him to prove his masculinity that it just makes him a better more fierce hunter and protector so John gets over it in like a year (Dean’s always been Like That anyway,,, in the grand scheme of things it’s less Distracting to have this small ongoing conflict that John just calls him Dean and does the passive aggressive “you wanna be a man? Act like it.” bullshit you know how it goes)
- Dean knowing he’s not a girl from a young age (like probably about 6) and teaches Sam to call him Dean and that he’s his brother from the time sammy can talk (Sam doesn’t learn Dean’s name is legally Deanna until he’s starting middle school)
- Dean binding in his teens by wearing those tank tops that are like skin tight but also stretchy material? With the built in bra part? he wears two of those under all the Normal Winchester layers and it gives him the flat chest (what isn’t flattened completely gets lost under his dad’s leather jacket he wears to school every day)
- it goes without saying but Dean, age 7, cut his hair for the first time in a shitty hotel bathroom mirror by trying to copy a dude in a shaving ad in a magazine (John didn’t even notice for three days)
- Dean gets top surgery after sam goes to Stanford when he’s supposed to be on a solo hunt (he tells John he’s hunting something but really he’s recovering at Bobby’s)
- Bobby, we are not surprised, is a good father figure and shut that shit down when dean explains that he’s just gonna hole up in a motel once he gets his surgery (“Boy, do you know how fucking dirty motel linens are? I am NOT letting you die from an infection and most certainly not leaving you Alone for months defenseless”)
- Dean using makeup to make his jawline a little sharper and more square even tho the iffy food situation growing up made sure he barely has any roundness to his face to begin with
- on the flip side dean playing up his fem features to use as a distraction when he hustles pool
- dean training his voice by trying to copy the sound of his favorite singers voices (and John since he hears his voice most consistently)
- dean knocking the shit out of transphobes (the comments don’t even have to be directed at him, he hears them and it’s ON SIGHT no question)
- dean acting like a womanizer bc that’s what Men Do and it’s all just literally part of his carefully constructed hyper masculine image bc it’s so so difficult to pick up anyone when what’s under theclothes don’t match what can be seen on the surface (Cassie is the first person he sleeps with and he’s so terrified but she doesn’t care holy shit she doesn’t care?)
- Dean chooses to keep his name close to his birth name bc that’s the name his mother gave him and he doesn’t want to disrespect her by completely changing it
- On the topic of dean’s hyper masculine image he constructs it from a mix of John and from the action movies he studies religiously when he has the chance (this is what boys like this is what every man dreams of being I have to like this too-) even tho he has enough action and violence in his actual life thanks,
- Dean not being big on faith because he can’t imagine some higher power choosing to make him be born in the wrong body and make him work so hard to fix it himself like life wasn’t hard Enough
- Dean being so immensely pleased when word gets around the monster worlds about the Winchester Brothers,,, the validity of your reputation being cemented in the way you’ve carefully crafted it to be
- Dean rationalizing that it’s okay for him to spend time and energy on making sure he’s presenting masc and getting the body language and mannerisms down because it helps him be better at his jobs as protector of his family and as a hunter (men are thought of as stronger/scarier, men are taken more seriously when interviewing locals/victim’s families, more authority is afforded to men)
- dean almost shooting a man in a bar bathroom when he’s fourteen and just needed to deal with shark week stuff real quickly but this drunk decided a “teenage girlie only has one use in a men’s bathroom” but dean just knocks him out and sprints back to the motel (dean doesn’t use public bathrooms after that if he can help it)
- dean not knowing the word transgender until he finds it in a library book while he’s supposed to be researching but really he’d heard the slur and needed to be clear on why it made him feel so icky so he was looking it up in the dictionary and he’s like Oh that’s Me
- Bobby doesn’t actually meet Sam and Dean until after Dean’s cut his hair for the first time and Sammy can only say half words (most Dee, which is good enough for Dean) so one of Dean’s first impressions of Bobby is him asking John “didn’t you have a daughter?” and John just giving a tired sigh because he’s too busy with the hunt he’s here for to try and get into it but Dean butts in with “No, he’s always had two boys, I’m Dean and this is Sammy” and Bobby doesn’t comment on this little high pitched voice or question it much because he’s babysitting this kid for the next two weeks and he doesn’t want it to be a hostile two weeks (and it never becomes a problem because by the end of week one Bobby never even entertains the idea that Dean isn’t a little boy)
- After Dean gets back from Hell literally the only thing that trips Sam and Bobby up (aside from that he just resurrected lmao) is that his shoulders are more squared and he’s just built more like he should be (see previous point about cas rebuilding him as he should’ve been!)
- Dean never having much money but he still donates to queer charities when he can (makes a point of it in June especially)
- Dean hangs a trans flag in his room at the bunker (and one in the dean cave too)
- The insane validation Dean feels at being called The Rifhteous Man (also the fact that Heaven Knew he was a man all along but didn’t lift a finger to make that any easier to show the rest of the world adds to dean’s general hatred towards them tho)
That’s all I can think of right now but just!! Trans Dean!!!!
Thank u for asking friend!!!
(@bowie-boy I am tagging u bc idk if u will see this post so hope that’s okay!!!)

No Bad Student | 1 -- Prologue: Ex-Degenerate
Tumblr media
Pairing: Lawrusso (Daniel x Johnny) Genre: Angst Warnings: Blood Word count: 1303 Summary: KK2 AU in which Johnny ends up living with Miyagi and Daniel for the summer. Inspired by nadianecromancer’s comic, but I’ll try to avoid making any scenes similar to the ones they already did! Notes: This was originally posted on Ao3 here. I’m much more used to that format than this one, but I’ve seen a lot of people post their fics here and thought I’d give it a shot. First chapter of three I’ve already written and will post shortly.
Next Chapter
He didn’t dare to look up from the pavement on that day. Voices called from around him, but none of them held any meaning at that moment. Even as Bobby set a hand on his shoulder, the feeling was like smoke in the breeze. He didn’t dare to look up, because he’d see one of two things -- LaRusso was there, looking at him, or he was already gone. After what he’d just seen, either option could kill him then and there.
Instead, his eyes were trained on the thin layer of shattered glass that covered the parking lot. There were tiny, bright red dots sprinkling the cement among the glittering white shards. It wasn’t the first blood he’d seen that day, but all but this was drawn from the losers, the ones that didn’t try hard enough. They didn’t commit. Sensei isn’t a loser, is he?
His eyes shut tightly. Some dying part of him still held on. It told him that all of this was his own fault, or LaRusso’s fault, or that crazy old man’s fault. It couldn’t be Sensei. He should just shut up and get back to training. Or, better yet, get up and show that old man what a real fighter looks like.
And still, his heart faltered. He let out a long, still-pained breath and let defeat keep him pinned to the ground below him.
“Johnny, come on man, let’s get outta here.” Johnny let his eyes come up just a bit, trying to ignore his peripherals. Bobby was on one knee in front of him, a hand still resting on his shoulder.
“Are you breathing alright? Do you need to see somebody?” Tommy said as he took a seat on the curb beside him. His voice was quieted -- he knew Johnny’s pride better than anyone.
“I’m alright, I’m alright.” Johnny insisted promptly, pushing himself upward, though he still watched the glass’s reflection.
Bobby gave him a pat on the back, forcing up a little smile. “C’mon, let’s do something fun, huh?”
“Could go steal one of the golf carts again. Find some ramps.” Dutch came walking into view, his arms crossed. Jimmy couldn’t help but scowl at him as he approached from behind.
Johnny shook his head. “Nah, let’s just--... Let’s go for a ride. Down to the beach, the usual place.” He said hoarsely, already making a beeline for his bike. The others followed behind, as always.
He took a seat on his bike, resting on it for a moment. The vibration of the engine hummed against his fingers as he gripped the handles. His sharp breathing slowed. The feeling was familiar. It brought back memories of normality, him and the boys getting into trouble, midnight conversations at the beach that always got a little more emotional than intended. That beach seemed to hold onto those feelings, like a storage place for their thoughts. Ali did the same, really. He could still picture her face the first time he let himself cry in front of her -- that took a while, didn’t it? Could he ever do that again?
Not after him. His jaw clenched at the image, the proud smirk of the bastard that changed his life for the worse and stole Ali away from him forever. The worst thing about it was that he could do nothing to stop him. It was over. He lost.
His sensei’s words echoed in his mind.
Bobby tapped on Johnny’s shoulder, his brows raised in concern. “You alright, man? We’re ready to head out if you wanna…” He trailed off.
Johnny nodded tacitly, revving the engine again then speeding away from the arena for what would seem to be the final time.
“Just gimme it, man!” Tommy pleaded as he chased after Dutch, kicking up clouds of sand.
Dutch chuckled, a big, malevolent grin on his face as he swung around Tommy’s bag. “Not until you admit you got your ass kicked.”
“I scored a point, same as you! Not my fault LaRusso cheated!” He grumbled out, capturing one of the straps, though this only allowed Dutch to begin swinging his arm around along with the bag.
“How’d he cheat?” Bobby asked, incredulous, sitting on a towel and sipping a warm beer beside the other two.
“He--...” With a quick, aggressive motion, Tommy managed to slip his bag out from Dutch’s grip, leaving him to fall into a laughing fit on the sand. “Well, he must’ve, right? A guy like that couldn’t have really beaten all of us, could he?”
“Nah, you’re right.” Dutch said as he climbed back onto his feet, wiping tears of laughter from his eyes. “I mean, you saw him. He hardly threw a punch. Just blocking over and over, the annoying little bastard.”
“He wasn’t cheating, man, we just weren’t prepared for whatever that Miyagi guy trained him to do,” Bobby admitted, his voice low.
Jimmy stood from the towel, starting to pace. “Well--... Well, we can train up and kick his ass next year, yeah? I mean--... I mean he won’t even get to Johnny.”
Dutch grinned. “Damn right. We’ll teach that kid a lesson he won’t forget.”
Bobby smiled warmly, turning to Johnny for confirmation. The smile dropped promptly. “Johnny?”
He sat facing the ocean, watching the moon’s reflection morph with the waves, his eyes empty. After a second of silence, he looked over at Bobby, his brows raised. “Huh?”
“We were saying how we’re gonna kick LaRusso’s ass next year.” He said cautiously, attempting a smile.
“Oh… Yeah…” Johnny’s words trailed off as he turned back toward the moon.
Silence permeated the group for a few long seconds.
“Well uh…” Bobby started, “I guess we gotta find a new sensei, huh?”
“Oh, well my mom told me about this place in Glendale.” Jimmy sat in the sand in front of Bobby, grinning brightly. “It’s kinda small, but it seems nice, so she says.”
Tommy sat beside him. “ We should definitely go to the same dojo, can’t split up this crew, right?”
Johnny sighed and they all turned their attention. “I don’t really wanna do karate anymore.”
That silence returned to take all of them once again, holding for quite some time.
Tommy hesitated, then spoke. “Are you serious, man?”
He nodded.
Everyone had the same thoughts simultaneously, albeit with different orders, different priorities. Dutch’s lip curled in anger, Tommy’s eyes darted in fear, Bobby looked to Johnny with compassion, and Jimmy hid his despair the best he could. All the while, Johnny sat there still staring at the water, void of any reaction at all.
“It’ll be alright, Johnny,” Bobby said softly. “We don’t need karate to keep being friends, y’know?”
A smile twitched up on Johnny’s face but failed to fully appear. “Yeah. I hope so.” He felt a surge of pain through his chest. His eyes welled up, but he widened them, shifting his focus to keeping a tear from falling.
Bobby patted his back, then hugged him around the shoulders. “I know it. You don’t have to worry about stuff like that, man.”
