Haven’t patronize LeNu Chef Wai’s Noodle Bar (樂牛私房面家) at Northpoint City for a while so we are here for an early dinner. Placed an order for our noodles and also adds S$3.50++ for the Apple Black Tea and Silken Tofu with Century Egg (皮蛋豆腐) appetizer. The tofu is served with a thick savoury sauce and topped with bonito flakes and scallions.
My Braised Beef Combination Noodle (红烧牛三宝面) (S$16.50++) came with wagyu beef, tendon and shank meat with pickled sour vegetable. I opted for ramen noodles to soak up the flavourful and wholesome dark brown broth. Both types of meats are braised till tender and soft while the tendon still retained that springy texture.
Mum had her usual Braised Beef Tendon Dry Noodle (红烧牛筋干捞面) (S$11.90++) but with ramen noodles instead of thick rice vermicelli. Beside the springy tendons, the dry style noodles came sprinkled with crispy sesame seeds crusted anchovies and crunchy peanuts on strips of cucumber and seaweed.

Century Egg or “Beyond Reach”, A Starbot Fanart.
Clip Studio Paint and Pixel It (Not to diminish the talent of pixel art artists, but I’m not doing this by hand, dot by dot, like pointillism. Sorry. XD) Gouache Brush and Gouache Blender with a new tool! Cloud Brush for that nebula. (Also I “Cheated” a little bit by using a 3D model to get little Starbot’s pose correct because I have not practiced enough anatomy to attempt that on my own yet.) Countless colors and hours because this was a labor of love. General estimate is 20-ish colors and 1.5 hours?
Starbot is a game about what it means to be human and, to paraphrase from Johanna Warren’s song “Your Glow” it’s about the harrowing ordeal of having to feel love and pain and fear and sorrow.
The game is loosely based on “The Little Prince” and is open about this fact. That should give you some idea of how this game will wreck you if you’ve ever read the book. The game also relies heavily on Eggs as a motif. Rich with metaphor, eggs are.
And the century egg here is a metaphor on my part. I’ll leave the interpretation up to y’all. I just knew that one of these had to be a Starbot piece, and when I remembered century eggs, I knew it had to be the motif for the Starbot art. Releasing this on the 26th in honor of the game’s birthday. Starbot was released on itch.io on December 26th 2014. I don’t think I played it the year it came out, but I did play it a while back. I knew what was coming when I played. It still turned my guts inside out and wrung the existentialism from all my tender meaty bits. The game improves on the inspiration’s themes, in my opinion.
Also, since I’m scheduling this post, I think this makes the 25th the only day I’ve done 3 Eggs back to back. Couldn’t help it. The ADHD hyperfocus hit just right and I had to make all the eggs.
Big thanks as always to @quezify for being the impetus to all this. Enjoy the non-pixelated version under this Read More cut.

Pan roasted honeynut squash + century egg congee for a comforting, seasonal-but-not-traditional dinner at midnight 🧡
Putien the One Star Michelin Fujian restaurant offers one of the very popular home cook spinach with century eggs. There are nothing special about the spinach or the eggs, or the plenty of whole garlic toppings, but the thick supreme stock.
Spinach with Supreme Stock
The signature dish is served in a thick and milky stock which perfectly blended the multiple ingredients in it. I am not sure how…
Today is Chinese New Year Eve and family members from near and far gathered together for the most important get-together meal of the entire year – The Reunion Dinner (团圆饭/年夜饭/团年饭). Now that the restriction for the max number of diners at a table had been lifted, we are back to Xing Hua Delights (回味轩兴化菜馆) for the get-together.
We started the meal with a small serving of Thai Style Bean Curd (泰式豆腐). Crispy on the outside and silky soft inside, the warm tofu is topped with julienned cucumber, carrot and onion with a spicy sweet and sour sauce over it. It is a refreshing appetizer to open up the palate.
Next up, the Amaranth Soup (上汤苋菜) in a milky broth of three different kinds of egg – chicken egg, salted duck egg and century egg (皮蛋). The homey soup and vegetable is well liked by everyone around the table.
And for the carnivores, the boneless Pork Ribs Deluxe (排骨王) with sprinkle of sesame seeds. It is succulent and sweetish with hints of tanginess. Here is another tofu dish, the Homemade Salted Egg Crispy Tofu (自制咸蛋脆皮豆腐). Love that fragrant savoury salted egg yolk sauce clinging to the golden brown deep-fried bean curd and seafood paste parcels.
Sister-in-law wanted this Salted Egg Chicken (咸蛋鸡) so we ordered a small portion. Sis commented that it was a little dry but I like the fragrant sauce and it went well with the rice.
