Ceres: BITCH IM A MOTHA!!! Pt. 1 🍂👩‍👧✨

I am not a professional astrologer. I like to study astrology and give my astrological observations. Do not steal my work. This is the work of TarotLadyTalks LLC.

I am back with another series! I wanted to learn about the asteroid Ceres, so I wanted to dive deep into how Ceres is expressed through the signs. I will share some of the information I have noted. I hope you enjoy reading and learning through this!!! Part 2 will be out tomorrow. Do feel free to tip at $tladytalks if you do enjoy my content, as I do work hard to make this kind of content.

Anyway, let's get into it!!

Here is some information about the asteroid Ceres from an astronomical + Greek mythology perspectives.

Astronomy:

Ceres was the first asteroid to be discovered. Discovered by Giuseppe Piazzi on January 1, 1801. The asteroid was named after the ancient Roman grain goddess (Greek name: Demeter)

Ceres revolves the Sun once every 4.61 years (earth years).

The largest asteroid of the main asteroid belt found between Mars and Jupiter. It was even designated as a dwarf planet in 2006, due to its massive size compared to the other "asteroids" in the asteroid belt.

Greek Mythology:

The Story of Ceres:

Fun fact: The word cereal comes from Ceres! Think about it. Ceres is the goddess of harvest, and what is cereal made from?

Known as the Roman goddess of agriculture, grain, and a mother's love. Ceres was the daughter of Saturn and Ops, sister of Jupiter and mother of Persephone. Known as a benevolent goddess.

She was known and loved for her service to mankind and providing food to the humans (service: Virgo). She taught human how to grow, preserve, and prepare grain and corn to grow and harvest. She even was responsible for the fertility of the land.

She was one of the only gods/goddesses that are known to be involved in the daily lives of the common people (another Virgo trait: day to day life). She was looked to as the nurturer of mankind

Worshipped at her temple on Aventine Hill, one of the Seven Hills of ancient Rome. She even had her on festival, the Cerealia on April 19. They also celebrated her during Ambarvalia, a roman agricultural fertility rite held at the end of May.

The seasonal changes are also connected with Ceres. Persephone, Cere's and Jupiter's daughter, was kidnapped by Pluto, god of the underworld, to be his bride. Ceres was furious and even more so when she found out that Jupiter gave Pluto permission to kidnap Persephone. Ceres disguised herself as an older woman and refused to offer fertility to the Earth and caused a famine. The other gods tried to resolve her anger, but the only thing that could appease her was getting her daughter back. While Jupiter agreed, Pluto gave Persephone food that when eaten in the underworld, she couldn't return to Earth. Therefore, as a compromise, Persephone would return to Earth (spring) and stay with her mother until it was time for her to go back to the underworld for four months (winter). Autumn represents Ceres' grievances of having to part with her daughter until she comes back from the underworld (spring).

With this, we can argue that Ceres also represents the natural cycles of life and how we recover and nurture ourselves in times of loss. Ceres can also represent how we recover.

What Ceres could mean astrologically:

Based on the story, we say that one's Ceres can represent:

How we may like our food.

How we deal with the cycles of life (loss, gain, and repeat)

How we come into our feminine energy.

How we nurture ourselves and others (as Ceres did)

How we show patience, devotion, and nurture as those are the qualities also needed to cultivate a garden.

How we recover in the time of loss

How we even like our routine (since Ceres was involved in the daily lives of the people)

How we give service to others around us

How we give philia love, the love we give to our family, friends, and community. I believe Ceres would fall under this category as she made sure to help the humans around her by teaching them how to grow and feed themselves.

Fertility and abundance. Possibly a lot of squares and oppositions to one's Ceres can make it tougher but not impossible for something to be as abundant as we want.

How we grow and nurture ourselves that is healthy to us. One person's soil isn't the same as another's, and that's okay.

Possibly our parenting styles as Ceres represents the motherly, nurturing energy we give, and this can feed into how we nurture our children.

Ceres gives similar energy to the moon.

Possible rulership of Ceres: Virgo, Cancer, or Taurus.

Also, since Ceres is an asteroid, one may not necessarily feel the prominence of Ceres unless it is in exact or close conjunction with a personal planet. So check your chart to see if you see this theory as well!

Ceres through the signs:

Aries:

The type to show tough love (yet can be gentle with it).

May like to deal with life's changes head on and want a sense of control to make sure that things are going their way.

This individual may like to nurture people in a way of motivating them that they are an independent bad bitch and can do anything they put their minds to, and they don't need anyone's help (make sure this doesn't morph into hyper-independence though).

Shows love and care by teaching people how to fend for themselves. They may see dependency as a sign of not having a good support system. Doesn't mean they think being dependent is a sign of failure, but this native may think that helping you help yourself is the greatest way to help you.

This native also will fight and protect the people they love with all the force they have.

Nurtures themselves by forcing themselves to get up and be active instead of just letting life pass.

May like spicy foods a lot, since Ceres represents food. Or may detest cold food!

Could be more of a disciplinarian kind of parent. This isn't to say this native will beat up the kids, but this native's parenting skills may include having a tighter grip on their kids because I feel like yall would rip this world with your bare hands about yall kids. May also teach their kids how to be independent, assertive, and never back down from accomplishing anything you want.

May love to exercise or love doing competitive activities like sports a lot.

Could find abundance by going out and getting it!

Taurus:

This native is patient with others. May show love through gift giving (as Taurus is material possession)

^Is a stable force in their loved ones lives. May teach their loved ones how to enjoy life and not allow people to compromise them or make them settle.

May like to eat comfort food a lot.

Nurtures themselves through sensual activities. Bubble baths, towel wraps around the head, eating on their own time instead of the usual three times a day.

Could be a patient, grounded parent. May also spoil their kids with money and gifts.

Could even nurture themselves by surrounding themselves by nature. May have plants in the house to feel better.

Feels better by taking life slow and steady. May like a slow routine.

Possibly could have a garden? This native makes me think that they may enjoy this kind of activity to feel better.

When dealing with changes, this native may have a harder time with transition, but can make the best of it by slowly allowing change and seeing what they can make of it. If things are going to be lost and change, may as well take a nap.

Gemini:

This native likes to nurture themselves or others by socialization and communication. The mental connection is foundational for this native

^Not only is communication foundational, but it also have to healthy and safe for this individual, otherwise it will cause emotional pain to this native.

This native may deal with loss by needing to vent or write out their thoughts. If you don't already, keep a diary. This native needs to speak their pain out. Going out with trusted friends could also help them a lot.

This native goes out to eat and enjoys the fellowship of friends and family. They may love to go out a lot.

Abundance is found through friends and family and simply being their witty, clever selves. They can talk themselves into a good opportunity! Abundance can also come from multiple opportunities (ex: multiple sources of income)

This parent may feel like a friend to their children

Extremely smart native, and can use their shrewdness to help their community in conjunction with their talent of networking

May like to multitask so much throughout the day and involve their friends in their everyday routine. Ex: may invite friends to go to the grocery store, I think that is so cute. May even like to keep lists of all they want to accomplish that day (similar to Virgo Ceres, go Mercury!). I feel like mainly if this Ceres placement is aspected to Saturn though.

Cancer:

This native knows how to nurture others. This native is empathetic, protective, and even defensive when it comes to protecting themselves and their loved ones.

They teach love in a way that is soft, empathetic, but also with strong boundaries. Love is not unconditional if you are being taken advantage of.

This native nurtures themselves by sprucing up their space. Ex: cleaning their house, cooking good food, and even renovating. And they also nurture themselves by surrounding themselves with their family and close loved ones.

May heal from loss by doing the above as well. This native will also engage in sensual activities to heal. They also will cry as they know crying is healing for the soul.

This native may feel in service to their community by "raising a village." This native may like to help babysit or invite others to their home when said people are in a time of need. People they trust, of course. They are a shoulder to cry on, but this is not meant to be one-sided. Again, love is not unconditional if you are being taken advantage of.

This native has a strong maternal instinct. Especially if harmoniously aspected, this native is the kind of parent that is "archetypal." Will sacrifice for their kids, raise them and be there in every aspect of their lives, and has a sense of pride being a parent.

This native is abundant! Unless the Sun is afflicted, but this native will feel like there isn't anything they couldn't receive. It may be easy for them to network with abundant individuals who can help them.

This native may like to nurture themselves by pampering themselves, and this could be in the form of an expensive shopping trip to simply just doing something that truly is connected to their inner child. Nurturing oneself is fun, lighthearted, and from the heart.

This native likes to be nurtured and validated as much as they do for others. They do not like to invest knowing they will not be invested into.

This native loves others loudly, care for others loudly, wear their emotions on their sleeves even. Because what is the point of showing love and care if you can't be transparent about it? This love feels very pure in the sense all is fair in love and war.

Loss can really be a blow to the ego and keep them down if their ego isn't as healthy as it should. It could be hard to let go of loss (as fixed signs do have a harder time letting things go). It made be hard to deal with loss because this native may be quickly thinking about how to "fix" this situation. But just breathe Virgo Ceres, you'll figure out how to get through this, but give your mind time to figure it out. Because in life you lose, you gain, and repeat. Also give yourself time to process the emotional effects of loss. Don't be so top heavy about it.

This native nurtures themselves by keeping busy and keeping things organized and in line. It gives their mind ease. May like to clean their house alot.

This native loves to serve their community. I think they wouldn't go out their way to give their opinions and critiques if they didn't want to see the people around them succeed. Yet, make sure your advice isn't unsolicited. I do think that Virgos sometimes can insert their advice at the wrong place and at the wrong time, so make sure to be aware of that.

This native loves having an organized routine and even writes down their goals of the day. There is a system to how their day goes.

This parent may be strict and critical to their children, but give your child space to figure out who they want to be, not what you think they should be.

This native likes to be nurtured by being included, involved, and being recognized for their opinions. To know their opinions matter and their advice is used is a great source of comfort for this native.

Abundance is in the form of knowledge and solutions. The more you know & the more you plan, the better abundance you can achieve.

it is spring/summer in the northern hemisphere and so to be mythologically consistent, with her daughter visiting for the season, ceres is happy as she moves into cancer. and she does well in this sign, when she is feeling abundant and nurturing, as cancerians tend to be maternal even without this influence present.

UNDERRATED POWER PLACEMENTS

Cancer Moon

These people are so sweet and family oriented. But what Ive noticed with people with this placement is that they have that almost scary kind of cunning that we see in movies. This is a real ”femme fatale” placement. Ive had a lot of friends with Cancer Moon and they all had people fall head over heels for them. These women know how to use their femininity and societys view of women to their advantage. They know when to bring out Eve and when to bring out Lilith. This is the family matriarch placement. Ive seen the coldest of people fall for the charm of these women. And they dont need to do much, their energy does it for them. Think Marissa Cooper from The OC who constantly had people fight for her or Brooke Logan in Bold and the Beautiful who came from nothing and became the family matriarch of the richest family in LA. People want to be their knight in shining armour.

Virgo Mars

Mars is strategy and virgo is perfection. Combine these and we have a dangerous person who can make the perfect plan to reach a goal… or take you down. Aries Mars will beat you up and go to jail, Scorpio Mars will ruin your life and their own in the process, Cancer Mars will cry about it, Sag Mars will leave town owing you money but Virgo Mars? They will make the perfect plan and nobody will know it was them bc they are so cute and innocent. They have a purity in doing things so that people wont know its them, i think pisces and virgo have this in common. Being the puppeteer to not get their own cute innocent little hands dirty.

Moon aspecting Saturn

Yes this aspect can unfortunately make a person very insecure and horribly critical towards themselves. But they are also incredibly strategic. They think before they act and it comes naturally for them. These people can be cold as ice if they have to. They can turn off their feelings when needed, not saying that that is something positive or cool but in this world its sometimes needed. They are goal oriented and their often low self esteem (sorry) makes them incredibly perfectionistic and social climbers. These people are realists and use logic when making decisions instead of using their emotions. Because of this they almost always get what they want. Saturn is also all about social status and these people know how status works. They know how to behave to be taken seriously. In a room full of people these people know how to get noticed by important people.

Mercury aspecting Neptune

We all know these people have a good sense of fantasy so ofc they can be super good at coming up with ideas. But they also sound innocent and like they are less intelligent than they actually are, so people are not prepared for them. Nobody would think that cute guy with Mercury/Neptune who falls over words and pronounce words wrong on purpose could be calculating? These people know what to say to make you feel like shit just like Mercury/Pluto and Mercury/Mars but they will just do it in a nicer way. They also have soothing voices even tho its not as ”in your face” as Venus conjunct Mercury. Voices are actually proven to be very important when it comes to how people respond to you. A harmonious voice makes people want to believe you and it also makes people find you more attractive and more pleasant to be around.

Ceres conjunct Sun or Ascendant

Making people feel safe and nurtured around you is super beneficial bc there is nobody who can resist that. Not everybody fall for beauty or intelligence but most people will fall for someone who makes them feel safe and special. These people are just so soft and warm. Marilyn Monroe have Ceres in the 1st house and she had that plump look and comforting energy that ceres gives. It can even be felt through the screen. This makes these people attract a lot of admirers because you become addicted to being around them. People with mommy issues will follow these people like puppies.

🪷 Fire + Earth in a chart gives the vibe of a person with a very rebel and with big attitude, is like they make the rules and they are the "leaders"

🪷 Water + Air in a chart gives the vibe of a person who is very intuitive and creative, they have a lot of ideas for multiple things, and they usually tend to listen to their hearts the most

🪷 Fire + Air in a chart gives the vibe of someone who is very romantic and flirty, their voices can be truly beautiful, enough to make someone fall for them, i know these people like to tease

🪷 Venus in fire signs go for personality, Venus in air signs go for the way their specific person thinks/mentality

Hey, here's another astro observation. 🍻🍻

Highlights: north node in houses, ceres, pallas, ascendant, sun, mercury, venus, neptune, uranus, lilith, saturn, pluto, chiron, degrees, cancer, capricorn, virgo, 1st house, 4th house, 6th house.

🍄 NN in the 4th or opposite MC. It's all about your sense of security. These people learn how to create security inside themselves instead of looking for it in people or outside sources. You should feel safe wherever you are physically and in your life journey, as long as you have yourself, it's all you need. You may not feel at home anywhere, you may dislike your family, which leads you to adjusting the concept of "home" to something suitable to your life, where you feel emotionally safe. Once you create your home inside you and nurture it fully, your home might manifest outwardly and you could certainly have the house of your dreams. (if you have this placement let me know how it manifests for you).

🍄 NN or SN in 4th, or in cancer/capricorn natives make others feel very safe around them and in their house/work. They give off a natural sense of warmth and security which make people trust them. Venus Man has no placements in Cancer, but he’s much more of a Cancer, according to stereotype, than me, a Cancer Sun and Mercury. I go to his home, and he has bought my fave food and beverages, cooks for me, always asks if the temperature is right, and if the right amount of blankets are on the bed.

He comes to my home, and we are sleeping on a futon mattress pulled down onto the floor (my twin bed isn’t big enough for us both and the futon’s frame is restrictive), and he’s in the habit of always bringing his own food and pillow with him (even though I try to tell/show him that he can use mine), and has left some blankets of his at my place.

The dwarf planet Ceres is conjunct his ascendant in Taurus, the sign some say she rules, and nurturing might as well be his middle name. (especially when it comes to comfort needs! ♉️) I’m beyond grateful for his desire to make sure I’m well taken care of, physically and emotionally, because I’m a Cancer who didn’t fully receive nurturing that resonated with me in my youth, and so I still can barely nurture myself or others.

I think he is slowly helping me find that side of myself, rather than making me dependent on him🙏 (especially since we embrace a relationship where we currently only come together once a week or less). And one thing he has definitely inspired me to find/recognize more of in myself is empathy and compassion. His Pisces Moon is a beacon of all that, and in my 1st house, it helps me see the ways that I’d like to move through life myself.

In the end, it’s worked out great that my 7th house Libra Lilith, and 8th house Pluto fearing dependence, insisted on sabotaging relationships with anyone else that came into my life. (This includes the numerous times I did so with him in the past, as we’ve known each other a decade and only recently got on the same page about focused, intentional romantic commitment.) I now see my Lilith was actually acting out of wisdom, disguised as frustrating self sabotage, because there’s no way in Hell she would have ever let me settle for the wrong person. She wouldn’t even let me settle for Venus Man during the years when we still both needed to be on our journeys of growth, independently.

I’m going through my Juno return now, with transit Lilith along for the ride, and I am finally beginning a committed relationship where I can bring my own sense of self worth to the table. No wonder it feels like this will actually be my life partner.

There are good people out there. A lot of them. And this includes good men. The struggle for any of us is not that there aren’t good people out there. The struggle (but attainable mission!) is to recognize and to move in ways that honor the worth and goodness in ourselves.

Transiting Ceres enters Cancer

Sunday, May 15 - Saturday, July 23, 2022

Disclaimer: unless Ceres is prominent in your birth chart, this transit may not be such a big deal for you.

And, apologies in advance: I have caught some bug; hoping it isn’t C19, but it’s certainly acting like it. My brain isn’t at its best at the moment. Neither is the rest of me. What I need is some chicken soup and some TLC, both of which are right up Ceres/Cancer’s alley. Less brains, more feels. Think of a grandma taking care of her sick grandchild.

Although this transit is only a couple months long, it’s powerful. Ceres has a strong affinity with the sign Cancer. Remember though that “powerful” isn’t necessarily the same thing as “good.” Let’s look at Ceres’ areas for some ideas:

Procreative sexuality, parenting, children, family - we can get very tribal during this transit, and of course that’s not limited to one’s biological tribe. Although there may be some struggles around just who’s The Boss, we can use this to strengthen (or create?) family ties.

Child care, nurturing professions - gee, just as there’s a freaking baby formula shortage in the US, an entirely preventable one I might add. Again, we’ll have opportunities to support kids (probably focusing on food) if we aren’t too lazy to take advantage of them - and also power struggles. Some people in the US want to continue the “free meals for all school kids” programs that were begun as a pandemic response, and I expect that will have quite a bit of prominence in the news.

Agriculture, growing cycles, food - this is maybe the most critical area in 2022. My understanding is that the US growing season is off to a slow start, so (crossed fingers) this may give us a welcome boost.

Concern for animals - specifically, the kinds of critters you’d find in a household or farmstead. It’s the same here as for the other areas: opportunities to improve and enhance, mixed with power struggles.

During these ten weeks, Ceres will have many interactions with the other swift movers - Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, and the other Lady Asteroids (Pallas Athene, Vesta, Juno). Of particular interest is the Sun-Ceres conjunction on July 21/22, at 29:15 Cancer - the beginning if a new cycle for Ceres, in the final degree of Cancer. Yikes.

Ceres in Capricorn ♑️

On February 27, 2024 Ceres made a transit from the mutable fire sign of Sagittarius into the half-goat , half-fish, Cardinal earth sign of Capricorn ♑️!

Capricorn being an earth sign and Ceres archetype is of the great mother, ultimate nuturer and also the goddess of agriculture and harvest! The Roman goddess Ceres is also known as the Greek goddess Demeter & she is Persephone's mother. Their story is quite archaic, enchanting, haunting, traumatic, poetic, loving, fierce, & sad; but their story can grasp the everyday person in one of its many versions whether through a short story, a book, or even a movie.

There are truly a number of different versions to their story. No matter which one is told most people(particularly women or the males that doesn't mind sharing their feminine side) can relate to. These different versions have been changed up over the thousands of years to further fit modern day times and way for you to connect and resonate on deeper level with them. I did write up a short blog on Persephone a month or so ago with information including Ceres(Demeter)& was planning a follow up for a full story on the myths of Ceres and all her astrological rulerships.

When I suddenly realized today that she had moved into Capricorn 3 days ago and is already sitting in Cap at 7°57'. So I'll post the link in the comments for the Persephone article and if your interested in reading it you have access to it without scrolling through my entire page! I will finish up the goddess of agriculture's mythology piece this month, so this article is just going to focus on her in Capricorn and what she means for the collective and even for your personal natal chart.

Ceres is associated with 3 zodiac signs; Virgo, Cancer, and the Taurus-Scorpio polarity axis. I do love the connection to the ♉️♏️ polarity, but I equate Persephone to be connected more to that being the queen of the underworld and goddess of spring. But don't get me wrong, Ceres also most definitely has a strong connection to those 2 signs as well, being so connected to our mother earth and the Eleusinian Mysteries(or Rites), being connected to the Hierophant tarot card, and her adversary being Pluto who made her turn dark when her daughter had been stolen from her.

The sign of Cancer being the ruler of the Moon and one of Cancer's archetype is the great mother and she deeply loved and nurtured her daughter Persephone so you can clearly see a connection to Cancer ♋️. As for Virgo and the symbol of the triple moon goddess you have the virgin, which is Persephone, Ceres as the mother (maiden), and Hecate the crone. So you can see how she absolutely fits all three of these rulerships. Knowing the archetypes of the planets and signs is something that absolutely needs to be learned especially if you want to fully understand astrology.
