In the tunnels below the old Lockwood property, Elena, Alaric, and Damon explored. They walked toward a cavernous hole.
"This is as far I get to go," Damon said as he let Elena and Alaric pass. Elena shines her torchlight against the walls of the caves. They are covered in ancient-looking paintings and drawings.
"What is all this?" She asks, confused.
"As far as I can tell, it's a story," Alaric responds and proceeds to explain the drawings.
"Gets better, show her, Ric," Damon says from the entrance.
"Names. And they're not native. They're written in runic, a Viking script." Alaric explains as he shines his light upon names carved high on one of the walls. Elena's brows rise in surprise.
"This name here, when translated, reads Niklaus," Alaric revealed as he shone his light on one of the names.
"Klaus..." Elena concludes.
"And Elijah...and Rebekah." Alaric pointed to the other names on the wall.
~
1001 A.D.
Rebekah was carving her names on the wall of the caves with a knife, while Klaus held a torch.
"Rebekah, let me have at it," Klaus suggested to his little sister.
"Quiet, Niklaus." Rebekah shushed him as she continued carving her name. "I'm to have my concentration if I'm not to slice off a finger."
"Father will not like you handling the blade," Klaus pointed out.
"If I want to wield a blade, I shall wield a blade," Rebekah responded confidently. "Father need not know."
"He will find out. He always does." Klaus argued.
"That is because you always tell him." Rebekah turned to face her brother.
"I cannot help it. He frightens me." Klaus confessed quietly.
Rebekah's eyes softened in understanding. "He frightens us all. That is why we stick together as one. Always and forever." Klaus looked down, avoiding her eyes.
Rebekah smirked. "Right, traitor?"
"Right." He responded with a smirk of his own.
"Here. You finish. I'm to help Mother and Kassie with the meal." Rebekah stated as she turned toward him.
"Yes, go tend to dinner and leave the blades to the men, little sister." Klaus mocked and put his hand out to take the knife. Rebekah handed him the knife with the blade facing first and in the process, she cut his palm.
"Agh, Bekah!" Klaus grunted in pain. Rebekah smiled.
"It is just a little blood. Be a man about it." She walked away with a smirk and left Niklaus to finish carving out their names.
~
"These are the names of the Original family?" Elena asked.
"Carved into a cave that's been here since way before the founding of Mystic Falls. Or even the entire New World for that matter." Alaric explained.
Elena argues that these have to be one of Klaus's fakes. Alaric agrees with her initially but then points to one other name on the wall and it reads - Mikael.
"Mikael? Mikael, as in the vampire hunter who knows how to kill Klaus?" Elena asked, shocked.
"Yep. I now like to call him Papa Original." Damon joked.
~
Later that day, Elena was at school and took the opportunity to talk to Rebekah. If they wanted to find out more about the Original family, she would have to go straight to the source.
"I was hoping we could talk," Elena says to the blonde.
"About what? Stefan? Don't worry, I'm off him until he starts treating me better." Rebekah says, tilting her head.
Elena takes a photo of Rebekah's name out of her bag and shows it to her. "Actually, I'd rather talk about this."
Rebekah's eyes grow wide. "I'm curious why you and Klaus have spent a thousand years running from your father," Elena added.
"I should get back to the girls. Homecoming's right around the corner." Rebekah says and turns away, trying to avoid talking about her father.
"Well, then maybe we'll ask Mikael when we wake him." Elena subtly threatened.
"You're bluffing. You don't know where he is. No one does." Rebekah argued.
"So who's rotting in that old cemetery in Charlotte?" Elena questioned.
Rebekah walked back to Elena. "If you wake Mikael we are all doomed." She warned the doppelganger.
"Why don't you want me to wake him?" Elena asked again.
"I need to get back to the girls," Rebekah repeated herself and walked away, memories of her human life and her father coming back to her mind.
~
1001 A.D. - Rebekah's POV
Rebekah noticed Klaus and Elijah were sparring again and called for her younger brother to watch them with her. "Come on Henrik! Our brothers are fighting again."
Elijah and Klaus sparred, their swords clashing against each other, the sound of metal ringing in the air.
"Oh look, sister's arrived to watch my fast-approaching victory." Elijah boasted while he and Klaus circled one another.
"On the contrary Elijah..." Klaus responded and their swords clashed once again. "She's come to laugh at you." He finished his sentence as he beat Elijah.
Their parents, Esther and Mikael, approached the scene. Kassandra was right behind their mother, carrying a basket full of clean laundry she just finished washing in a nearby creek.
"Relax, Mikael. Niklaus means well." Their mother said, trying to calm her husband down.
"That is precisely my problem." He responds and motions for Elijah to hand over his sword, who does so reluctantly. Rebekah's smile falls from her face and Kassandra frowns at her father's words and tone of voice.
"So...why don't you teach me that trick, young warrior?" Mikael asks Klaus and attacks him. Klaus manages to fend off the strike.
"Father, we were just having fun," Klaus replied, trying to explain himself.
"We fight for our survival...and you find time for fun!?" Mikael yelled at Klaus. "I wanna have fun! Teach me, come on!"
"Father, it was nothing." But Mikael didn't want to hear a word of it. Instead, he attacked Klaus once again, this time more aggressively.
He strikes the sword out of Klaus's hand and kicks him to the ground. "You are foolish and impulsive, my boy." Their mother could only watch as Mikael held the sword inches away from Klaus's throat.
"What, no more laughter?" Their father taunted.
"You've made your point, Mikael," Esther said, trying to defuse the situation. Mikael thrust the sword into the earth next to Klaus's head.
"Some days, it's a miracle you're still alive, boy," Mikael said and walked away, leaving a frightened Klaus on the ground.
"Bekah...Come. Help me with the laundry, will you?" The soft voice of her younger sister pulled her out of her thoughts.
Rebekah looked at her - Kassie was just as frightened, she had the same fear in her eyes all of them had when they were around their father. She just nodded and walked with her sister, both silent and too afraid to say anything.
~
In the meantime, Alaric was trying to figure out what the symbols on the wall meant. Elena came into his apartment and assured him she would get the information out of Rebekah.
Down in the Forbes prison cell, Damon visited a chained-up Stefan who's been bound to a chair by Lexi and Elena, days earlier. In the end, Damon decided to free his brother.
"Screw this Lexi plan. I think we both could use a drink." Damon said.
~
Elena's POV
Elena walked into the Salvatore household and was greeted by Rebekah.
"You invited me over. To talk." She reminded the Original.
"All right girls, have at it," Rebekah said and six girls appeared in different colored dresses.
"Now, twirl, please." The girls did as they were told.
"You compelled your own runway show?" Elena questioned as she moved closer.
"I need a homecoming dress. So, what do you think? Pick one." Rebekah responded like it was obvious why she compelled them.
"I'm not here to help you shop," Elena said, annoyed that Rebekah was avoiding the reason why she even came here in the first place. "I'm here to talk about why you don't want me to wake up Mikael."
Rebekah smiled and then proceeded to speed over to the first girl in line. She pulled at her hair, exposing her neck. "I said pick one, Elena." She said while her true vampire face appeared.
"The red one!" Elena quickly points to the red dress.
Rebekah dismissed the girls and compelled them to forget everything. She picked up a glass of champagne and walked over to Elena.
"You do not threaten me." Rebekah hissed as she got closer to the brunette. "You will learn what I allow you to learn. Is that clear?"
Elena nodded, too intimidated by the blonde to say anything.
~
Back in Alaric's apartment, Bonnie came to visit. She brought him Elena's necklace which she tried destroying days earlier.
He picks up a photo. "I've been staring at this image all day, wondering why it looked so familiar." Then he brings the necklace to the same level as the photo.
"It's the same design..." Bonnie connected the dots.
"Your grandmother said the necklace belonged to the witch that put the hybrid curse on Klaus, right?" Bonnie nodded.
"This symbol is repeated all across the wall and I've been trying to figure out what it meant," Alaric said as he took a marker pen and wrote something on a sticky note.
"Now I know." He put the sticky paper on the photo and showed it to Bonnie - the word on the note read witch.
~
In the Salvatore Boarding House, Elena and Rebekah enter Stefan's room. Rebekah starts snooping around, rummaging through his stuff.
"Are you gonna root through his stuff all night, or are you gonna start your story?" Elena asked as she leaned against the frame of the door.
"You really are no fun." The blonde responded as she walked across the room. "What do you want to know?"
Elena questioned how they ended up in North America if it hadn't been discovered yet. "Not by anyone in your history books" Rebekah replied with a chuckle.
"My mother knew the witch Ayana, who heard from the spirits of a mystical land where everyone was healthy. Blessed by the gifts of speed and strength. That led my family here where we lived amongst those people." Rebekah explained.
"The werewolves?" Elena asked, her brows raised in surprise.
"To us, they were just our neighbors. My family lived in peace with them for over 20 years, during which time my family had more children. Including me."
"You make it sound so normal" Elena commented.
"It was," Rebekah responded softly and proceeded to tell Elena the rest of the story.
~
1001 A.D. - Kassandra's POV
She was sewing and patching up the sleeve on one of Elijah's shirts he ripped a couple of days ago. She was sitting next to the window for better visibility. Rebekah was next to her, looking at all the pendants hanging from the window. She touched one and it burned her.
"Ayana. You burned me!" Rebekah said shocked.
"That is not yours to touch." The older woman responded matter-of-factly.
Kassandra just chuckled when all of a sudden someone could be heard yelling. "Is that Niklaus? Something is wrong!" Rebekah said worriedly.
Kassie stood up and through the window, they could see Klaus carrying an unconscious Henrik. Bekah gasped. Both sisters ran out of the house, Kassie forgetting all about her task.
"Mother!" Klaus yelled for their mother while putting their injured brother on the ground. Kassandra couldn't believe her eyes - her baby brother was deathly pale, blood covering his face and neck, his tunic ripped, and deep wounds marred his stomach.
Rebekah's mouth was open in shock. Kassandra felt like someone punched her in the stomach. They ran closer, quickly followed by Ayana. Their mother finally came into view. Kassie didn't even notice Elijah running to them, her eyes focused on their little brother.
"Henrik! No, no! What happened?" Their mother asked, her eyes wide in shock.
"The wolves...I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." Klaus said remorsefully, sitting on the ground, holding his knees, tears in his eyes.
Mother touched Henrik's pale face. Kassandra took notice of how his chest never moved, how it didn't rise and fall like it would if he was asleep. His chest was still. She could see where this was going but was too afraid to say anything. She held tightly onto Bekah's hand.
"We must save him! Please, there must be a way!" Their mother begged Ayana. The dark-skinned woman touched his cheek.
"The spirits will not give us a way, Esther" Ayana responded apologetically and Mother looked at her in shock, her green eyes full of disbelief.
"Your boy is gone," Ayana said sadly. Kassandra could feel her eyes filling up with tears, her vision becoming blurry. She could feel her heart pounding loudly in her ears. The pain in her chest was almost unbearable. She could feel her throat tightening.
Her mother looked horrified. Elijah put his hands around their mother while she cried and wailed in agony. Rebekah crouched down to Klaus's level and embraced him. No one embraced Kassandra. She held herself, putting her arms around her body to stop herself from shaking.
She didn't register when the tears started spilling down her face, chasing one another.
"That was the beginning of the end of peace with our neighbors. And one of the last moments my family had together as humans." Rebekah finished her retelling.
Elena stayed silent, not knowing how to respond. Then her phone buzzed. Rebekah blinked and shook her head.
"You better get that. That will be Damon checking up on you." She said to the human, trying to compose herself.
Damon tells Elena he's at a bar and over the phone Elena could hear Stefan. Elena questions why Stefan's free and how could Damon let him out like that. Damon tells her that he knows what he's doing and hangs up.
Elena sighs in frustration.
~
Hours passed and Elena's patience was as thin as a sheet of paper. Rebekah was lying on Stefan's bed, reading one of his journals.
"Did you get your fill of snooping? Can we get on with the story?" Elena says, eager to learn more about the Originals and their history.
Rebekah put the journal down and got up from the bed. She walked over to the table Elena was sitting at. Her eyes fell upon a photo of Elena with Stefan.
"Honestly, I don't get you two as a couple." She said while shaking her head.
"Why would you? You don't know anything about who he really is." Elena argued. Rebekah smiles and puts the photo down.
She leans closer to Elena's face. "I know exactly who he is. He's a vampire. We're a predatory species. We don't have time to care about humans and their silly little lives."
"Is that why you did that runway show earlier? Because you don't care about the homecoming dance?" Elena asked rhetorically. She got up and said she was leaving. Rebekah argued that Elena didn't even hear half the story.
"And you're not going to tell it. You're just bored and looking for someone to push around. Find someone else to play with. Maybe you can compel yourself a friend." Elena bit back, annoyed with Rebekah's behavior.
"The necklace wasn't Stefan's to give," Rebekah said. Elena stopped in her tracks.
"It belonged to the Original Witch," Rebekah added.
Elena turned back around. "The one who put the hybrid curse on Klaus?"
"Not just the hybrid curse. She's the one who turned us into vampires." Rebekah revealed.
~
1001 A.D.
"Please Ayana, I implore you. You must call upon the spirits before the next full moon." Mikael said to the witch as they discussed their dire situation, while the candles burned and the fire cracked softly in the hearth.
"I will not. It is a crime against nature." Ayana argued.
"Ayana, we have already lost too much. We cannot lose anymore!" Esther begged.
"The spirits can help us find a way to protect our children" Esther explained.
What they didn't know was that their daughters, Kassandra and Rebekah, were behind one of the walls, eavesdropping.
~
"So vampirism was a form of protection?" Elena asked as they both walked down the stairs to the living room.
"What else would it be?" Rebekah asked.
"A curse."
"My parents only saw a way of keeping their children alive."
"But why stay? If they were so afraid of the werewolves, why not leave?"
"Pride" Rebekah said, disdain coating her voice. "My father didn't want us to run anymore."
"He wanted to fight and be superior to the wolves. Where they could bite, we had to bite harder. Where they had speed, we had to be faster. Agility. Strength. Senses." Rebekah explained.
~
"In her hands? How could she do anything?" Elena questioned as Rebekah recalled the memory of her parent's conversation.
"Because my mother was also a witch," Rebekah answered.
"What?" Elena asked, confused.
"The witch of the Original family. The Original Witch." Rebekah spelled it out for Elena, leaving the doppelganger dumbfounded.
"But if your mother was a witch then-"
"Am I? No. A witch is nature's servant. A vampire is an abomination of nature. You can either be one or the other. Never both." Rebekah explained as she rummaged through the living room, looking for a drink.
"My mother did this for us. She did not turn." She added.
"How did you turn?" Elena asked, curious to know how the first vampires came to be.
"She called upon the sun for life and the ancient white oak tree, one of nature's eternal objects, for immortality...That night, my father offered us wine laced with blood. And then he drove his sword through our hearts."
"He killed you?" Elena asked, shocked.
"And he wasn't delicate about it, either."
~
1001 A.D. - Kassandra's POV
There was nothing. Just pure darkness. Silence. Darkness engulfed her entire being and every part of her mind. She suddenly became aware of this darkness. She wasn't sure what to think of it. She felt like she was in a dream, floating in a sea of infinite nothingness. "Is this death?" She wondered.
After an unspecified amount of time, she could hear someone calling for her in the distance, she could feel her consciousness coming back to her. She could feel someone shaking her. It felt like someone was ripping her away from this weirdly comfortable cocoon of darkness that crept all around her.
"Kassandra! Wake up! Please wake up! I beg you little sister, wake up!"
With a gasp, she opened her eyes and came back to the world of the living. Her eyes fell upon the face of her older brother, Elijah. Relief washed over his features, for just a second. She took a second to find her voice.
She then noticed a massive blood stain on his shirt. "Elijah! You...are you alright?" She asked with concern in her voice.
"I should ask you the same question, little dove." He said and gestured to her chest. She looked down and gasped.
Her white sleeping dress had a massive blood stain, that matched Elijah's. She peeked down her dress, expecting to see a wound, but there was nothing, her abdomen was fine.
Her hand trembled as she touched the blood stain. Her heart was still beating, but how? Their maniac of a father killed them. First Elijah and then her. She barely registered when Elijah pulled her closer, embracing her and holding her tightly in his strong arms.
"Shhh, Kassie, you will be fine, we will be just fine." He whispered in her ear in his usual soft, calming voice. She buried her head in his chest and sobbed loudly, not being able to contain herself.
"How? How is this possible? Elijah...he killed us. Our father killed us!" She managed to say through her tears.
"Shhh...none of that matters now. You're safe with me, Kassie. I will always protect you." Elijah tried pacifying his hysterical sister, smoothing out her dark curls.
The door opened and their father walked in, and with him came Axel, one of the villagers. Kassandra has been in love with him for years now, and only recently confessed. To her surprise, he liked her back and they shared their first kiss in the woods where he promised her he would marry her.
"Father, what is the meaning of this?" Elijah asked, holding Kassandra close to him.
"We must finish what we started. You have to drink if you want to live." He said and pushed Axel to the ground where the siblings were sitting. He took out a knife and cut Axel's forearm. Blood poured all over his arm and on the ground below.
Elijah tried shielding her from the sight. Their father pushed Elijah away and then he grabbed the back of her head. "Drink!" He ordered and pushed her face down toward Axel's wound.
She tried resisting but her father was stronger and continued shoving Axel's bloody forearm in her face. Quickly her mouth latched itself onto the wound. Mouthfuls of blood poured down her throat. Instead of the metallic taste she expected, her throat was laced with the sweetest taste she had ever consumed.
Sweeter than honey, smoother than a gulp of cold water on a hot summer day, the feeling of euphoria and pleasure spread through her entire body, her mind telling her to drink more. Every nerve in her body was on fire and she wanted more.
After drinking for a couple of more seconds she stopped and took in a long breath, the sweet aftertaste still buzzing in her mouth. She sighed in pleasure, her eyes fluttering shut.
She was too focused on licking her finger clean to notice Elijah's horrified expression and how her father forced Elijah to drink as well.
~
"It was euphoric. The feeling of power was indescribable." Rebekah told Elena.
"But the witch Ayana was right about the consequences. The spirits turned on us and nature fought back." She added.
"For every strength, there would be a weakness. The sun became our enemy. It kept us indoors for weeks. And though my mother found a solution...there were other problems."
"Neighbors who have opened their homes to us could now keep us out. The flowers at the base of the white oak burned and prevented compulsion. And the spell decreed that the tree that gave us life could also take it away...So we burned it to the ground."
"But the darkest consequence was something my parents never anticipated. The hunger. Blood has made us reborn and it was blood that we craved above all else. We could not control it. And with that...the predatory species was born." She concluded.
~
Stefan and Damon were still at that bar, snacking on the waitresses. Stefan asked Damon why he broke him out of the jail cell.
"Maybe I wanted to remind you what freedom was like before Klaus took it," Damon said to his brother.
Stefan says that as long as Klaus lives, he will do as Klaus says.
"That's my point, Stefan! You've given up. You can sit around and be his little bitch or you can get mad enough and do something about it." Damon responded.
"Damon he cant be killed," Stefan argued.
"Maybe I can help with that." An unknown male voice said. A tall, middle-aged-looking man with steel-blue eyes approached them. "The Salvatore boys, I presume."
Stefan takes a good look at the man. "Mikael."
After threatening to kill Damon, Mikael came to an agreement with them - Stefan would lure Klaus back into Mystic Falls.
~
Back at the Salvatore house, Elena and Rebekah talk some more. Rebekah explained how Klaus's first kill triggered his werewolf gene, which exposed Esther's affair and the fact that Klaus was not Mikael's son.
"But Mikael's greatest weakness as a human was his pride. As a vampire, it was magnified. He went on a rampage and killed half the village. Then he came home and killed her." Rebekah recalled somberly.
"Mikael killed your mother!?"
"He said she broke his heart, so he would break hers. He tore it from her chest as Nik watched."
After Rebekah explained the vow of Always and Forever she, Klaus, and Elijah made together, Elena questioned why she would stay with Klaus after he put her in a coffin for 90 years.
Rebekah explained how a vampire's emotions are heightened. She's stubborn, Elijah's moral, and Nik has no tolerance for those who disappoint him.
She thought of her sister and how Kassandra was the most loyal person she knew but chose to not mention her sister to the doppelganger. "Not yet," She thought as she turned back to face the said doppelganger who questioned why she still loved Klaus.
"He's my brother, and I'm immortal. Should I spend an eternity alone instead?" Elena gave her a look.
Rebekah tells Elena to leave and that she wants no part in her games. Elena asked why they shouldn't wake Mikael. The doppelganger argues that Klaus has a hold over her life and Stefan's as well.
"Do what you need. Wake Mikael at your own peril. But make no mistake, if you come after my brother I will rip you apart. And I get my temper from my father. " Rebekah threatened.
"Now leave." The blonde moved away and Elena quickly got out of the house.
~
After visiting the caves once again this time with Bonnie and Alaric, Elena makes a shocking discovery. She returns to the Salvatore house with evidence.
She explained to Rebekah that it was Klaus who killed their mother, not Mikael. Rebekah refused to believe. She took the photos and threw them in the fire. Elena asks her why she's so upset.
"Why are you doing this to me? I've done nothing to you." Rebekah asked with tears in her eyes.
"Klaus killed your mother. He has a hold on you, on me, on everyone. He has for a thousand years. We have to make it stop-"
"SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP! DON'T TALK ANYMORE! NOTHING!" Rebekah yelled at her while pinning her against a wall. Her eyes turned red and black veins appeared on her face as she held Elena by the throat.
Then she lets Elena go, breaks down into tears, falls to the ground, and cries.
***
In this chapter we see how the Originals came to be and I obviously focused on Kassie's transformation.
Thank you for reading and I hope you like it. ❤❤❤

2023 In Review : Authors' Edition
What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out and would you do it again? I wrote my first drabble. Plan to do more as part of my compliments to fanart that I like and reblog.
How many fics did you work on this year? (They don’t have to be finished or published!) 28
What’s something you learned about yourself as a writer? I overuse semicolons and dashes and the first step is admitting you have a problem.
What piece of media inspired you the most? Handmaid's Tale, Snowpiercer (And of course MCU just b/c of Stucky)
What fandom(s) did you write for this year? Marvel/MCU, Actor RPF, Supernatural, Fresh, Snowpiercer, Knives Out
What ship(s) captured your heart? Stucky already had my heart. I really got into other C.Evans and S.Stan characters paired with OFC's, this year though.
What character(s) captured your heart? I liked exploring Curtis Everett and Lloyd Hansen. But I still ride or die for Steve&Bucky.
Did you write for a new fandom or ship this year? Yes!! Lots of new M/F pairings, and 5 new C.Evans characters.
What fic meant the most to you to write? "The Carter Academy for Omega Excellence"--because this was my first commissioned fic and I'm super proud of that. Plus, I've formed a friendship with the person who asked for it!
What fic made you feel the happiest to work on? No clear winner for this one, just a ton of ties. Fluffiest fic was "Angels Are Avian Adjacent"
What fic was the most satisfying to finish writing? "The Merging: A Union" - just b/c I've left the SN fandom and was glad to have given the story an end.
What fic was the most difficult to write? Did you finish it? "Medically Necessitated" - because there is SO much I want to include in the plot of this one and it just is hard to keep it all straight in my head sometimes. Plus I'm rarely in the mood to write it because I hold the tone and quality of the writing so dear to my heart, that I don't want to just phone it in or half ass it. It is not finished (yet!).
What fic was the easiest to write? "Wet Dream" was written as a Bingo fill, and it felt like it came pretty easily.
What were your shortest and longest fics this year? "It Started with Helga the Lunch Lady" - 863 words "Medically Necessitated" - 91,000 words
Rec a fic you wrote or posted in 2023 "Medically Necessitated"
What were you go-to writing songs? "Wicked Game," "Enjoy the Silence," "I want to," "Like U," "Say It," "Falling," "Insomnia," "Should Be Higher," "Daddy Issues."
What were your go-to writing snacks? Kratom, caffeine pills
What was the hardest fic to title? Hydra Sanatorium - the title was actually something else that I decided I didn't like, so it got changed.
Share your favorite opening line A 3-way tie between: 1. "As a gigantic fucking Duh, hiking that last mile home with an ass full of cum is no fun." (BB & his 1001 Fetishes, ch 34), 2. "The Morning When Steve Finds Out What Bucky Wants to do to His Dick:" (Modifications & Improvement of Functions), and 3. "Sebastian’s in the middle of taking a dump when he hears his phone out in the kitchen. “Ah, crap.”" (I Prefer Girls Who're Not Afraid to Cry)
Share your favorite ending line A 3-way tie between 1. "What the hell kind of simp-ass Dom even calls themself something stupid like "Bucky," anyway?" (It Started with Helga the Lunch Lady) 2. "And then, nodding at the box of Midnight Black #106 that the other man is considering, furtively advises, “... don’t do it.”" (Merry & Bright, part 2) and 3. "Well, Bucky utilized his super soldier stealth skills. Steve tripped into the floor lamp." (Good Ol' Fashioned Values)
Share your favorite piece of dialogue I couldn't sort through ALL of the dialogue, lol, but it would definitely be the dirty talk in one of them. A recent one that comes to mind is the sexually tense and taunting back and forth Bucky has with his half-sister in "Make it Stick", or the banter between Ransom and his ex-GF in "Who'd You Have to Blow to Get That Part?"
Share an excerpt from your favorite scene AGAIN, too too many to sort through them all, but I love the scene in Good Ol' Fashioned Values where Steve and Bucky are making love, and Steve is emotional over wanting to be the omega mate he used to be for Bucky, and Bucky tenderly reassures him that he's still the perfect mate: [[“Buck, oh, p-please …”
“Uh huh. That’s right Honey. So soft. You work so hard to go soft for me, don’t you Sweetheart?”
Steve whimpered in a way he rarely did anymore, hands flying up to cover Bucky’s on his neck. “Yes, yes,” he gasped. His fingers curled into Bucky’s metal ones and held on almost desperately. “Please. I can be good. Buck,”
It broke Bucky’s heart a little bit, and he cooed sadly and shook his head. “Aw, Stevie, no.” He changed his pace, slowing down and fucking in deep and staying there to grind them together. “You’re always good, Honey. Always. Even when you can’t.” Steve’s eyes got misty at that, and plaintive, sad sounds started working their way out of his throat alongside the moans. Bucky hushed him. “Shh sh sh, Sweetheart.”]]
Share the final version of a sentence or paragraph you struggled with. What about it was challenging? Are you happy with how it turned out? The last paragraph of Modifications & Improvement of Functions, because the tone of the fic was so lighthearted and so twisted at different points, I wasn't quite sure which tone I wanted it to end on. [[Steve’s old junker of a heart gets another ding in it. He pulls Bucky in close to be the little spoon, and lies there kissing at the back of his neck for a long, long time. “You always work right, Buck. You’re always perfect. I love you.” He traces the edges of the star that’s carved into the nape of his neck, and eventually he whispers, “We’ll go to the piercing shop tomorrow.”]]
What's something that surprised you while you were working on a fic? Did it change the story? That a 16 year old character may NOT be written engaging in even non-explicit sexual relationships in a Tumblr fic. I had to reformat a few details to be safe (but I increased the age gap super much instead, so nah nah! 😝(Got my abusive Tumblr Staff Troll 🧌to thank for that one.)
What did you use to write? (e.g. writing programs, paper & pen, etc.) Google Docs. Sometimes I'll jot something small down straight onto a Tumblr post.
If you had to choose one, what was THE most satisfying writing moment of your year? I'm just really satisfied with the themes and unique way the narrative handles the subject matter in Modifications and Improvement of Functions, I think. As well as how I navigated the half-sibling incest depicted in "Make it Stick"
Did you do anything special to celebrate finishing a fic? When I achieved 5 in a rows on Bingos, I posted the masterlists. First time doing that!
How did you recharge between fics? Sleep, binge eating, elliptical machine/gym, Youtube videos.
If this were an awards show, who would you thank? What’s something that you want to write in 2024? I have a fic I was writing for the @stuckyhistoricalfiction challenge that I never finished because of an injury/recuperation, but I truly love the fic concept and what I have written so far, so I'd like to finish that this year, even if it's just a shorter version than I'd planned. I also had two fics I was supposed to write and another fic I was supposed to draw for, for the @stuckybangs, which I didn't complete due to the injury. I'd love to collab with those partners and fulfill their visions! BUT MOST OF ALL: I want to finish up many, if not most (or all 😅) of my WIPs that I have going. I love them all so much and have no intention of letting any of them remain unfinished forever!
