sometimes i think i'm being too harsh on the webcomic and that maybe it's better than i give it credit for. but then i reread it and nope i am totally in the right and i will never forgive some of the choices being made

anyway.

why did they change julian's letter to lloyd. what purpose did that have.

look at this

doesn't seem so bad right? nice little letter julian being a sweetheart to his parents, even asking after his brother, nothing out of the ordinary

EXCEPT. THEY COMPLETELY CHANGED THE PURPOSE OF THE LETTER.

to star with it the letter was supposed to be for lloyd! not for arcos and marbella!! it was julian writing to his hyung just after graduating!! like!!

To Lloyd, I graduated, and I got fairly good grades. It's all thanks to you. I was able to give my all. And I realized a lot of things the last time I met you after a long while. It was all possible because of you. Thank you. See you soon. Julian, your young brother who wants to be your pride.

∧ this is the letter julian sent lloyd. do you see the difference. do you see how much feeling and sentiment they cut off on the webcomic??

julian isn't trying to prove to his parents that he can be as dependable as lloyd. he wants to make his brother proud!! he's thankful for what lloyd did for him!! he outright tells him it's thanks to him that he was able to graduate with good grades at all!!

he doesn't even mention that he graduated second of his class, arcos is the one that has to tell lloyd about it. and lloyd is genuinely surprised and awed by it! it's!! a cute scene!!!

Lloyd carefully studied the letter. He was proud of every black word written on the white paper. It was only a few lines, but he swelled with happiness nonetheless. A part of him ven felt an immense sense of contentment. Before he knew it, he had read over the letter five times already. Graduation, huh. Lloyd, too, wanted to graduate. He wanted to graduate, pass the exam, and land a job. But he was forced into this world before he saw the fruit of his efforts. Though he couldn't deny that the knowledge he had acquired in his world helped him a lot, a corner of his heart was occupied with a pang of sorrow for being unable to finish his degree. Well, I know it's not like a diploma will feed me, but still. [...] But still, I wanted to get a diploma. Lloyd still felt regretful that he couldn't get one when he had put in great effort to get one. He occasionally ponded on the matter. And now, here came the news of Julian performing beyond any expectations of him and giving the credit to Lloyd. The boy even added a pleasing remark that he wished to become a proud young brother to Lloyd. Lloyd felt grateful and content as he read those words. His heart swelled with pride as though he was the one who had graduated. That rascal. I'm going to give him a noggie on his chestnut like head. Lloyd carefully folded the letter thinking to make sure it wouldn't get crumpled. Then he carefully put it in his inner pocked. Later, even when he continued to have his meal and enjoyed reuniting with the count and countess, he had his hand placed on the middle of his chest. And as though the letter was responding to him inside, it rustled. Lloyd swelled with gratitude and joy once again every time it happened. The entire time he couldn't erase the smile off his face.

lloyd is!! so fucking proud of julian!! he feels so happy he could be the reason julian gets to graduate!! to do the thing he wanted so bad but was unable to!! and julian responds in kind by thanking him and telling him he's the reason he could do it!! lloyd is so proud and happy it almost feels like he got to graduate himself!!

the care with which he puts the letter away!! worrying about it getting wrinkled!! unconsciously touching it and getting happy all over again!!

do you get why i'm so upset this scene was completely rewritten and stripped of all the care and love it had in the novel. do you get it. i want to bite someone.

Chapter 200: The Fledging Ceremony & Haircutting

Right before Ginny is sent off, at the end of the ceremony/party, her hair is cut off completely. Reminds you of Finny when they found him, huh?

What is especially interesting here is the head matron explains they do this so that:

無垢な存在として旅立つの

“She can depart on her journey as an innocent.”

But the intriguing thing is that she uses this word: 旅立つ, which can mean “to embark on a journey,” but can also mean “to depart from this life” — to die.

I highly doubt that Yana wrote it that way by accident.

The young matron tells Finny they cut their hair so they don’t bring any lice or fleas to their new home/family. But that’s obviously a lie.

In Japan, shaving someone’s/your head is associated with punishment/failure. (For example, a sports team shaving their heads after losing a game.) The practice probably has ties to ancient China, where having your head shaved was one of the “5 punishments.” There’s also the association with piety and buddist monks, of course.

So Yana is likely intentionally framing this with the concept in mind that her audience in Japan will recognize the significance of the shaved head, and all it’s potential connotations.

diasomnia month // prompt 10 — rain

The weather of Briar Valley has always been harsh, perhaps more in tune with their draconian rulers than nature itself, but this rainstorm seems to take exceptional delight in its cruelty.

It hammers with a vengeance against Lilia's armor, soaking the already stained arachne-spun garments beneath into a gruesome slurry of sweat and blood that splatters to the crushed foliage below— though none his own.

"A healer to me, NOW!"

The roar of his own voice breaking across the relentless thunder of the rain and cacophony of scrambling soldiers hardly sounds familiar; there is an undercurrent of true fear like the bloated, dark bellies of the clouds above them, roiling and ready to release. There is no time to be grateful that the din of the storm itself drowns out his weakness, but there is no time for anything at all as the seconds tick down with every passing moment that the boy collapsed in his arms heaves blood over Lilia's trembling hands.

"You foolish, fucking child!"

It is easier to be incandescent with anger, to reach into that raw, bubbling rage inside of himself rather than expose his heart for what it has become. It is easier to hurl curses at that wretched human as the boy blinks unfocused eyes up at Lilia's face as if to focus on the moon itself, his gloved hands slipping and sliding over the ragged hole pierced through his stomach like that might keep his organs inside.

"I could have easily dodged that blow, I did not ask for you to defend me like some hapless fledgling!"

His voice is rising to strange, new octaves as the rain saps the already pallid color from the human child's face, streaking down his cheeks and plastering his bangs to his skin— Lilia finds himself struck with the bizarre desire to brush them away if he were not bleeding out in his very arms. There's absolutely no remorse or shame in that disgustingly honest face, and Lilia's heart all but twists itself into oblivion as the boy chokes out "Father—" as if in prayer, as if to summon the man himself to save him from his fate.

was this the first time zoro saw the outcome of luffy's gear 4?

because as i remember, the first time luffy used it to this extent was in dressrosa against doflamingo, and only law and the pirates helping luffy to wait until he got the second wave of his strength back saw it. but at that time zoro was in another part of the city.

he probably isn't sure how this gear works, only sees that luffy run out of steam, and thanks to law that he needs about 10mins to get back up. so the only thing zoro can do is immediately move to protect luffy and get him away from the next big attacks

luffy even thanks him ;-;

then kaido wants to chomp down luffy

and zoro gets angry, 'don't you dare go eating our captain!!' and thanks to enma he actually manages to slash through kaido's scales, something that was impossible before

(so proud of him. and this was all after he's been a few moments ago struck by big mom's lightning.- it shows how much he did get stronger since skypiea, where he took some bad lightning damage too but he couldn't fight after that.)
