Byłam bardzo głodna mama przyszła i powiedziała nic nie jadlas bo się słaniasz. Zrobiła mi 1 tosta z 1 plastra sera, pieczarek i oczywiście zero masła. Potem 6 pierogów z biedry.

Wcale mi to nie smakowało, jadłam z musu, taka pogrążona w depresji . Chyba czuję że wrocil mi jadłowstręt. Czuję się taka zmęczona chociaż spałam normalnie. U podologa dziś poszło prawie 300 zł. Założyła mi takie specjalnie gąbeczki po których nie mogłam chodzić i bolało w ch*j . Przez 3 h leżałam na łóżku i myślałam że zejdę z bólu. Następna wizyta w piątek. Do tej pory muszę 2 razy dziennie moczyć nogi w specjalnym mydle i nakładać okład ze srebrem. I zalecenie ☠️☠️ chodzić jak najmniej w butach.

Ch. 20: Hedgehogs, Honey, & Hazelnut-Covered Strawberries

Summary:

A chance meeting—or is it a setup?—leads to the start of a relationship filled with buttery baked goods, sweet smelling flowers, and hedgehogs.~ 🌹🦔

They’d agreed to keep their relationship secret.

They’d agreed to keep their relationship intimate and private, out of sight of the papers and the articles and gossip rags.

But….

Well, in Draco’s opinion, Harry was barely trying at all—“I have a glamour on, so it doesn’t matter all that much” was his excuse.

(It turned out Luna had not been screwing with him that one time about Harry’s glamour being set so that only people he trusts to some extent can see through it.)

However, that didn’t mean Harry could just walk into Draco’s patisserie-bakery shop and hug him without everyone noticing.

“I brought a little lunch for us from your favourite café,” murmured Harry with a smile in Draco’s ear. “Join me when you’re on break?”

And then he sat down at a small table with a cup of coffee, a honey cake petit four, and a treacle tart.

To be fair, Draco couldn’t pin all the blame on Harry. He also forgot where they were, especially when the topic of Harry’s Amortentia cropped up over their lunch of jambon-beurre sandwiches and coffee, though Draco brewed himself a nice cup of darjeeling tea that he promptly choked on.

“Pardon?” he spluttered. “You drank the Amortentia on purpose?!”

Harry waved a dismissive hand. “Of course not, I’m not that daft. I didn’t know it was Amortentia. I just thought I’d found myself the perfect cup of coffee.”

“…That smelled like honey cake and chocolate and strawberries and golden butter,” echoed Draco.

Harry nodded as if that admittance wasn’t the same as saying that he’d been in love with Draco before he’d taken the Amortentia.

That everything he’d said while under the effects of the Amortentia…had been true.

“What’s the matter?” he asked Draco, completely clueless, then narrowed his eyes. “Wait, did I do something weird after all when I took it?”

Draco couldn’t hide the heat rising to his cheeks as the realisation that it’d all been true set in. “Well….”

“You said nothing happened!” Harry looked a bit mortified. “You said I just asked for food!”

Draco bit his lip. “…Why do you think, erm, the love potion smelled like that to you?” he asked instead—the way Harry was acting made him think that perhaps Harry was clueless as to what it meant.

But Harry, as usual, never behaved like Draco expected.

“What do you mean?” Harry had the gall to look at him like he was a bloody idiot. “It smelled like you, of course. I’ve fancied you since you visited my shop.”

Draco’s heart stopped from utter shock. “What?” he barely managed to breathe out. “But that was….”

That was the first time they’d even seen each other since the trial.

“I thought you were cute,” said Harry a bit defensively. “You know, you were kind of flustered and I wasn’t expecting you to smile like that when I made that bouquet, so it’s not like I could help it. You caught me off g—”

Draco cut him off with a kiss, his chair scraping back as he leaned over their small table. A few strands of his hair probably dipped into his tea, and he couldn’t care less.

Harry kissed him back just as ardently.

The next day, the headlines read “Shocking: Coffee Date between Saviour of the Wizarding World and ex-Death Eater?” with a photo of the two of them locking lips at their table in front of everyone in Draco’s shop—Draco didn’t think he’d ever been so embarrassed to open his shop and have both his friends and regular patrons alike give him wolf whistles and congratulations.

Harry, on the other hand, saved the clipping and put it on the checkout counter at his flower shop.

I tag my books in Calibre with people and places and things I think will come up again and again across books. 

This can be a slow and agonizing process, but I find that I keep coming back to it over and over again, because I’ll read a book years later that mentions a battle on Hill 488 and think... fuck, what book was it that I read about that from someone else’s perspective?!!?!?

Since a number of Republican lawmakers and Supreme Court Justices were also involved in the treason, knowledge, planning, execution and witholding of evidence, in direct collusion with the LDS they too must be arrested at once and tried for treason.

I have been hunting this man and the Family Research Council and the members of the Republican Party for almost a decade - ever since he cheated in the 2016 Election and the government let him go, let him do the things he did to an unsuspecting world. Hundreds of thousands of immigrants seeking the refuge of the Inn from this nation are dead because of this man and this cannot be forgiven.

The Demon Prince Goes to the Academy, Chapter 623

(Rambling under the cut - CW: spoilers, state violence, character death, war, classism mention, fantasy racial prejudice)

Something I'm finding very interesting about this novel is how anti-government and war it is, despite multiple main characters being royalty and nobles. They explicitly state multiple times how the government is not there to protect the people at all - it's meant to prolong the state, no matter the cost. It showed how the Empire couldn't feed the dying refugees, but they could easily kill them once they were desperate.

"The purpose of a nation is not the realization of justice or good intentions, but the preservation of the nation itself. There is no justice, relief for the poor, or charity in a vanished nation. If there's a single absolute priority a nation must protect, it is the nation's own existence. That's all."

- Charlotte to Reinhardt, ch.474

The riot was brief.

Thousands of guards were killed.

But within just a few days, hundreds of thousands of refugees were slaughtered.

The empire had trampled on the burgeoning frustration, asserting that violence belonged solely to the state.

Fear subdued and repressed everything.

But ultimately, all legitimacy vanished.

Everyone knew that it was a lie that the empire existed for humanity.

The brief riot returned as a massive massacre, and the raging mobs were forced to hold their breath, overwhelmed by fear.

While the empire couldn't support the refugees, they could kill them all within days.

The reason the Demon War started was due to mutual distrust, the fear that the other side would strike first, and it’s repeated by Duchess Yellena de Grantz, the classist mother of a main character who wants to protect her daughter:

Duchess Grantz spoke to me as if scolding a child.

"Do you intend to convince the sheep inside the fence that the hunger of the wolves and foxes outside is inevitable? Even when you don't know whether they're wolves in dog's skin, do you plan to let them in simply because they haven't shown their teeth to me?"

I had no answer to the Duchess's words.

Eleion Bolton was not a wolf.

The Duchess knew that.

But she was scolding me for bringing someone into the fence without knowing whether they were a dog or a wolf, thinking there was no need to kill them.

Someday, I would bring a wolf in dog's skin into the fence.

That's what she was saying.

- Chapter 622

This is immediately compared to Eleion Bolton, who participated in the war due to the human fear of demons. I really hated the Mass Guilt of the main characters before (and still kind of do), but it fits with the theme here - judging and killing others without proper consideration, succumbing to fear, will leave you with regrets once you realize what you've done rationally. Bertus de Gardias himself realizes that he "doesn't have the qualities of an Emperor" because he tried to protect his nation (and sister) by condemning and doubting Reinhardt for not being human & he can't abandon Ellen

- Chapter 514

And Reinhardt also admits he doesn't have the qualities of a king. He does not kill others even after they've gone against his wishes (like with the Gate Incident). He decides to accept them, no matter what sins they've committed. He is in direct opposition with the Empire because he's a threat as the Demon King and the Empire's prejudice against demons, but he's in direct opposition of his own role as a king that should only protect his country because he protects the people. He accepts the fear and injustice as he lives among humans and after. Even knowing the people around him would kill him if they knew his identity, he still loved and cared for them

Idk I just think the whole "letting dogs and wolves into the sheep pen" can be compared to quite a few IRL social justice issues & I agree with the narrative so far

  The leader of one of the most successful U. S. Marine long range reconnaissance teams during the Vietnam War, Andrew Finlayson recounts his team's experiences in the year leading up to the Tet Offensive of 1968. Using primary sources, such as Marine Corps unit histories and his own weekly letters home, he presents a highly personal account of the dangerous missions conducted by this team of young Marines as they searched for North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong units in such dangerous locales as Elephant Valley, the Enchanted Forest, Charlie Ridge, Happy Valley and the Que Son Mountains.   In numerous close contacts with the enemy, the team (code-name Killer Kane) fights for its survival against desperate odds, narrowly escaping death time and again. The book gives vivid descriptions of the life of recon Marines when they are not on patrol, the beauty of the landscape they traverse, and several of the author's Vietnamese friends. It also explains in detail the preparations for, and the conduct of, a successful long range reconnaissance patrol.

Review: 

Finlayson has a very particular point of view on the war, and warfare. Throughout the book, he is constantly made aware that his actions and behaviors are both dangerous and obsessive. Yet, even though he acknowledges it, and says he takes it to heart, he still has the narcissistic bent to ignore them and feel that his way is the right way. 

That’s both a positive and a negative.

His teams brought the war to the enemy and were immensely productive as far as kills and intelligence gathered. At the same time, they were in many ways reckless and dangerous. 

God loves a fool and who dares wins are basically how he operates.

Overall though, the book gives you great insight into HIS way of running recon teams, and how Team Killer Kane/Swift Scout operated, the gear they took, the places they operated in, and who the people were. His writing style is quick paced and gives you a good sense of his thoughts and emotions and allows you to understand where his head was at and what he experienced.

While there were a few errors, especially in regards to keeping track of a persons rank (one page they’re corporal, next they’re a sergeant), and the weapons (carrying my m-14, and had 5 magazines of 5.56mm), the book is well done.
