thinking about lucius as the personification of stede’s consciousness and feelings, as stede’s narrative mirror. how they both have very similar sideburns, wear little neckties/cravats, stede dresses them both in the matching white outfits but lucius is the one who ends up a bloody mess, how lucius writes down all of stede’s inner monologues and he’s the only one who also reads from stede’s library, how lucius has the proof that stede is a proper pirate and it’s what allows him to stay alive, how lucius comforts stede when ed leaves with jack, how lucius is the one that ed seeks out for a heart-to-heart when stede is no longer an option, and of course how lucius is the one thrown overboard because he’s too close, he understands too much, he very bluntly called out how much they liked each other and never pretended it was anything else. he gets rid of his heart (the silk) and then he gets rid of the representation of stede’s voice, his feelings, his sexuality. he’s stede’s compass or navigator of sorts. lucius is stede’s emotional awareness, he sees what takes stede a little longer to see, and he looks out for him even if, at first, his feelings (lucius) were ready to turn on him (the mutiny in the pilot). stede is always ready to punish himself, after all. apt that his mirror should.

also worth mentioning how lucius is openly gay now but says his mum thought he liked girls for years and not all beards are actual beards, when stede was in a loveless marriage to a woman (his beard) and was not aware of being gay and falling for a man. lucius and black pete could then serve as mirrors for predicting stede and ed’s future in terms of them accepting each other, accepting that they can’t lose each other, being together romantically and sexually, the fact that they love each other and don’t own each other.

(an extra note: kinda love that black pete is called black pete, it reminds me of blackbeard and then he also wears the black armband reminiscent of ed’s black band tattoo, and he’s the one who brings ed into the narrative first by associating himself with him textually. and black pete hypes blackbeard up to be just like a legend, a violent myth, but he’s just a man, just like black pete - men capable of being soft and tender and loving with the men they love rather than just being blood-thirsty pirates.)

This fandom is 7 months old and it is one of the most toxic fandoms in existence.

For a show about found family, acceptance and love, the only thing the fandom is interested in is hate. Hating the characters, hating the ships, hating the cast and the crew and hating each other. It is disgusting.

There is not a single justification for the way this fandom treats each other. The way they (it, you, we) treat the crew, the cast and their significant others.

David Jenkins proved on Twitter that at least a few of the cast and/or crew are inside this fandom with us on anonymous accounts. They are absolutely seeing all of this vitriolic dreck that spews forth from this fandom. The fact that he chose to answer a question that so easily could have been a simple y/n but instead used it to say yes he's heard of the most popular SMAU in this fandom and intends to read it, just hours after the author was completely torn apart to the point of leaving Twitter for simply writing it. That's not a coincidence.

This show has been so overanalyzed that what began as simply disliking characters has turned into full on livid, vitriolic hate. And it's all based on interpretations of characters that might not even be accurate to canon. What are all of you going to do if we get a completely different backstory and motivation for characters and it doesn't in anyway line up with what you've indoctrinated yourself into believing? Are your death threats going to shift from other fans and the cast to David Jenkins and the rest of the writers?

Do you have any concept of how ridiculously stupid it is that death threats have been issued to fans and cast members of a fucking television show that is about love and acceptance? Do you people see yourselves? Do you hear what you're saying?

If you are too young or not emotionally mature enough to handle the themes of the show or you are traumatically triggered by something in the show, stop watching it and do not engage with the fandom. Just admit it's not for you and move on. If you get to a point where you can handle it, the show will be there for you to watch.

If the fandom is too much for you, the themes of fanfic or fanart triggering or you're just not able to handle it for whatever reason, either avoid the fandom or start blocking tags and don't follow accounts that don't use tags. It really is that simple.

You DO NOT, under any circumstances, have the right to dictate what other people create or engage with in fandom. You DO NOT have the right to attack creators because you don't like what they create. You DO NOT have the right to attack the cast or crew because you don't like a character, ship or plot point. You DO NOT have the right to attack cast members because of the way they engage with ADULT fans. You DO NOT have the right to attack the friends, family or loved ones of the cast or crew.

Fandom is here for the sole purpose of sharing what you LOVE with other people that love it too.

We have been handed a fucking GIFT with this show. It is literally one of the first of it's kind. A show full of lgbtqia+ characters with a multitude of backgrounds and ethnicities. There's no coming out storyline, no need to justify why the characters are who and what they are. They just are. They exist wholly and completely as they are and they are simply going about their lives. This is the story that we have been asking for, begging for, for literal YEARS. And now that we have it you're destroying it. And for what? Seriously. Why?

Thor: Love and Thunder

I'm a bit baffled as to why so many people hate the movie. Seriously. When it was announced Taika Waititi was staying on as director (after directing Ragnarok) and was going to be writing the script and we were told what the title was going to be, I've had a vision in my mind of what this movie was going to be. What we got is exactly what I was expecting. And I managed to accurately predict the tone and style of the movie without having seen a single thing of Taika's except Ragnarok. Having now learned more about Taika and having seen much more of his work, it's even more obvious what Love and Thunder was going to be.

Love and Thunder is not meant to be a clone of Ragnarok. Thor Ragnarok is easily one of the best movies of the MCU. It has a heavy storyline with humor injected around the edges. Love and Thunder on the other hand is meant to be fun. It has two heavy storylines inside it. A man on a killing spree because his daughter died and Jane Foster dying and hastening the process by using Mjölnir. So to keep the movie fun Taika pulled absolutely insane story elements from the comics and Norse Mythology then set it all to a soundtrack of Guns 'n' Roses (and I fracking love him for it).

Ragnarok is meant to be astonishing. The fight on the Rainbow Bridge overlaid with Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song is designed to give you feelings.

Love and Thunder is meant to make you smile. That's it, it's designed to make you happy and keep you smiling and laughing all the way through. Even with all the death and kidnapping of children. Stop taking it so damn seriously and just enjoy it. And maybe go watch the making of documentary, it might help you lighten up a bit.

okay like I’m answering like this bc apparently tumblr put a limit on how long you can make asks and I was getting too long as usual but hahahaha well

my friend my countryperson, I can talk about them and then I will see myself out and start drinking way too early because of the pain, but not counting the addendum which killed me because yes hahahahahahahahha OH MY GOD YES *cries and kicks netflix*, it's choke full of parallels because like (I'm going off netflix and what books I read wrt witcher I haven't finished them yet but I got enough)

like first of all there's direct jaskier > stede and geralt > ed comparisons in the sense

jaskier and stede are both nobles/rich people who came from money/titles and gave it up to lead an 'adventurous' life or anyway something that puts them completely outside their original class status but don't care for what it brings them and at the same time are kinda gnc wrt what one would presume is A Real Man in their universes (but also irl tbh) because they both dress well/care about their appearance and put a lot of effort in maintaining it (I mean book!jaskier curls his fucking hair pls)/use what they learned in high society when they have to and the situation calls for it but at the same time they don't behave like anyone who doesn't come from high class is a lesser person and they don't gaf wrt who they're friends with

on the other side geralt and ed never mind the clothing similarities (because the black is just netflix!geralt game and book isn't exactly into LEATHER BLACK AESTHETIC but netflix is so we'll count it) have the whole thing where most people they meet/know perceive them as someone extremely dangerous/at times inhuman [for ed because for geralt it's most of the time when he's not with friends]/feel like they have to play into that part in order to get by in life/are sort of born into a violent job that makes them risk their life over and over (like geralt didn't have a choice about it and ed pretty much couldn't have done anything else) and they basically tried to embrace it as much as they can even if they want other things from life starting with being treated for themselves/like human beings also we can add that they both come from a poor background and they have a shitload of parental trauma that they never worked through (geralt with his mother and ed with his father) and to top it all off they're canonically seen by others (and themselves to a point) as monsters (geralt bc he's a mutant and ed has the whole kraken defense mechanism)

to which we could go with the first obvious bunch of relationship parallels in the sense that in both ships (not counting how bad netflix is at show don't tell) the thing is that jaskier/stede immediately see ed/geralt as someone they like/they want to be friends with and they don't care about whatever bad fame they have if they even knew about it (I mean netflix!jaskier doesn't even know wtf is geralt before he goes and talks to him while everyone was giving him a wide berth and stede had shown ed the secret closet after literally five seconds he didn't know he was blackbeard) and make them feel like they don't have to pretend to be someone they're not at least with them while on the other side they feel like they can also be themselves without getting judged for their idiosyncrasies or for all the reasons they didn't fit in high society

to which we could add that ed/geralt have canonically saved stede/jaskier's asses as well I mean in netflix we mostly had bottled appetites when it came to geralt saving jaskier's ass but in the books it happened way more often as far as I read up and ed signed his freedom away to save stede's life like we serious

but then there's the other parallel which you hinted because yes there's the whole angle with the what makes you happy part but let me go into it a second

like, jaskier and ed in that sense is kinda obvious because they're the two who bring up the whole 'wanting to figure out what makes me/you happy' (and the one difference is that since obv netflix!witcher isn't going that route geralt was never gonna say IT'S YOU while stede did but I mean that went unsaid) but they're also the two that are more in touch with their feelings, because jaskier has no problem bringing up the thing and admittedly he's the one out of the two of them who tries to actually talk about stuff and same for ed who for being like... in a fairly crap position for it is actually way more open about his own feelings and needs and shit than stede is (more on that later), takes the first step and puts himself on the line...

which brings us to the fact that at the end of S1s of both shows jaskier and ed are the two people who are in the same position because they’ve been left heartbroken by ed/stede ie the two people they trusted/cared for the most (and were in love with) and you don’t want to know how much I screamed when ed was working through it with the breakup song because my immediate thought was ‘if it was the same universe and he heard burn butcher burn he’d track jaskier down just to have drinks with him about the fair-headed assholes who obviously broke their heart’ and I’m just sad I don’t have time to write that crossover but like are we fucking serious, and the fact that both of them pretend they’re over it after but actually aren’t (ed cries in the nook at the end of S1 and jaskier is lit. crying while singing the last line of BBB) isn’t anything I can get over atm

I can also rant about the fact that actually jaskier and ed are the ones that have uuuh the most similar fashion choices because YEAH YEAH I KNOW THE BLACK LEATHER but listen to me a second like jaskier dresses all Not Exactly Masculine™ with his own flair, not with previously put-together outfits, and he has the post-breakup red leather outfit, but it’s still nice stuff (the frilly shirt, the silken vest) because he figured out what he wants to dress like and has no issue donning that right, while ed starts with the black leathers but that’s his blackbeard thing, then moves on to stede’s frilly stuff and he likes it but it’s still not him™, and the moment he could actually pick and choose what he wanted... he got stede’s trousers and the silken pretty (red) floral vest, the long hair and nothing else including the trademark beard, which is... Not Exactly Masculine™ but is his own flair over what he found out he liked wearing and he was exploring it before izzy had to go ruin it but I digress

meanwhile netflix!geralt and stede until the end of S1 dress in... well, coded outfits unless someone puts them out of it in the sense that geralt never gives up his leather get-up unless jaskier gives him the nice clothing and stede has only frilly coordinated outfits all the time except when they’re at the academy (and we could talk for ages wrt he and ed being dressed the same when they kiss but nvm that) but at the same time like the other witchers don’t dress like geralt so we can take for granted that he chose that get up and likes it/maintains it same as stede liked the frilly clothing and never cared that he was judged badly for wearing it, but it’s kinda armor-y for them if it makes sense imvho? idk I’m ranting but anyway let’s move on to the actual stuff

because clothes nonwithstanding on the other side geralt and stede have in common a terrible level of emotional constipation brought by the fact that both of them think that they can’t be genuinely loved/cared for by other people/think they’re bad news for them, like the fact that geralt keeps on telling himself he doesn’t have feelings (false) vs how stede keeps on saying he agrees he’s a monster and ruins beautiful things is... kinda the same thing at the end of it because neither of them is anywhere near in touch with his feelings (as much as stede is good at making others discuss them) and it takes them a... I don’t want to say traumatic event bc that doesn’t exactly fit, more like a lifechanging revelation like thing to start getting over it - like, for geralt is finding ciri and having to be emotionally available for his daughter and therefore getting more in touch with his feelings for others at the same time, for stede is hearing mary talk about what it means to be really in love and realise that’s what he was feeling because he couldn’t recognise it as it never happened to him before and no one actually loved him like that either, and while with geralt/jaskier isn’t exactly 100% the same bc obviously geralt is close with the other kaer morhen witchers jaskier is still the first human friend he had and obv in between witchers it’s a different thing

which brings us to the part where geralt and stede are the ones who actually cause heartbreak for jaskier/ed, geralt because he has the pent up rage moment and unloads on jaskier also probably because he knew he could do it with him and on one level he thinks jaskier would be better off without him anyway but doesn’t realise how much it actually would have hurt him and stede because he thinks he ruins everything and that ed would be better off without him when instead ed is a lot worse off without him, so they basically are working on assumption about themselves which are not true and end up driving away the other two who has just bared their heart out to them ops

so like geralt and ed would have an interesting conversation and stede and jaskier would have the same because both would be like eh being a noble sucked, but the double date would be something because it would end up with jaskier and ed siding vs the other two being like eeeeh we did fuck up didn’t we but I digress

and I mean at this point I’m here sobbing like why the fuck are these fictional people doing this to me but YEAH THERE ARE PARALLELS and I’m nowhere near ready to consider most of this without feeling like I’ve been personally attacked

Fic summary:

Ed is dying for a change of pace when Blackbeard's Bar and Grill and Other Delicacies and Delights gets a new neighbor: someone batshit crazy enough to open a fancy clothes store in a rundown neighborhood. What Happens To The Heart-Ch. 2

Some folks requested a part two to my last fic, and i decided to give more a go! I'll be editing the first post to notate that there'll be more than one chapter now as well.

TW mentions of corpses, death, also road head except in a dinghy so...boat head?

The village is small. One dock that he ties the dinghy to before grabbing his things and heading towards the first building he sees, a small open sort of shed, with some fishing gear and rope by it.

Empty.

"Hello?" Izzy calls out along the dirt path leading further onto the island.

Silence.

He shrugs, and makes his way onwards. No one here has to interact with him if they don't want to; that's fine by him.

The market stalls he passes bear only rotting fruit and empty spaces, and he starts to fear the worst.

Sure enough, the stench of death hits in a massive wave as he reaches a number of small cabin-like houses.

One by one, he searches through them, gently stepping over rotting corpses he can barely see in the dark. Some sickness maybe, hopefully nothing he could still catch, though he doubts that.

There's nothing he needs for now though, and he makes his way past the houses into the trees.

"Mind if I crash here?" he asks a small snake that slithers past.

The snake pauses, seems to turn their head, then continues on away from him.

"I'll take that as a yes," Izzy sighs.

His things rest by the tree he's chosen as 'his', and he settles down by them.

His head rests on one of his bags, but sleep doesn't arrive. He strips off his vest to drape it over himself like a blanket, but it's no good.

"Fine then," he grumbles, and sits back up to lean against the tree. "I can sleep later."

It occurs, as he stares into the dark surrounding him, listening to the sound of night creatures milling around, exactly why he can't sleep.

He's used to saying goodnight to Ed and Bonnet. Without them here, it's a hurdle his brain won't jump to get him to sleep.

"Stupid fucking Bonnet," he sighs.

"Izzy's gone," Stede says. "Ed, we can catch up to him-"

"He's banished," Ed interrupts. "Roach! Get the man of the hour a drink!"

A cheer erupts from the crew as Roach passes down a bottle of rum, but Stede sets it on the table as soon as it reaches his hands.

"Ed," Stede tries again. "Seriously. He's your first ma-"

"He was," Ed cuts him off. "Wait."

He turns to Stede and stares. "Oh fuck. We left you-"

"Yeah, you all did," Stede says sharply. "You know who got me down and cleaned up?"

He's speaking louder than he realized; the entire crew is silent and listening now.

"Izzy," he continues. "Izzy came and got me down and bandaged me up. How long would you guys have left me up there if not for him?"

"Not really sure why you're mad at us," Frenchie scoffs. "He's the one that put you there in the first place."

"Maybe so, but at least he had the decency to fix what he'd done," Stede replies. "Or to do his best at that, at least."

"What happened?" Ed asks. "Don't say nothing either, because I can tell-"

"Come with me," Stede murmurs to him, and Ed swings his legs over the bench and out to follow him away from the galley.

"Stede, this is how things go," Ed says gently as they reach the main deck, bathed in moonlight. "I know it seems harsh-"

"It is," Stede interrupts. "He-"

"Stabbed you," Ed finishes. "And in doing so, he broke his blade so you won. Simple as."

"I understand that," Stede says. "But even so, rules can be bent or broken."

"Izzy likes rules, so he should be perfectly happy right now," Ed replies, but he can't seem to meet Stede's gaze.

"Ed, I don't believe you," Stede says softly. "I thought he was your friend."

"You were calling him an asshole not so long ago," Ed shoots back. "Now you can't go on without him here?"

"He kissed me," Stede says. "I mean. I kissed him. Then he kissed me back. Ed, I haven't kissed anyone other than Mary before-"

Ed's eyes snap to his, full of fire. "He did what?"

"Ed," Stede frowns. "I kissed him first-"

"So what?" Ed scoffs. "Yeah, you're right. I should go find him, so I can tell him to fuck off into the fucking sea."

"Edward!"

"Well, what else am I supposed to do?! I wanted to kiss you first, and then he-"

"You want to kiss me?"

Stede's heart pounds fast. "You really want to kiss me?"

Ed steps close, and nods.

"I'm right here," Stede continues.

Ed may be upset, but his kiss is gentle as anything.

"If you prefer Izzy," Ed starts, but Stede kisses him to cut him off.

"I don't prefer one of you over the other," Stede says. "I haven't been kissed in years, Ed. And with all respect to Mary, the kisses she and I shared weren't really what either of us wanted, I don't think. I've never enjoyed a kiss until Izzy and yourself."

Ed kisses him again, more urgently, hands running lightly over Stede's waist until Stede uses his own hands to set them firmly there.

"I don't think I want to choose," Stede says. "I don't...I can't explain it. Not right now. It's been a lot and I've got so much in my head and that's very distracting-"

One of Ed's legs is pressing against his cock, and the urge to rut against him is utterly ridiculous. Putting a sentence together feels impossible.

"I'll stop," Ed says quickly, but Stede reaches down to keep his leg there.

"No, I like it," Stede gasps. "But we need to go find Izzy too. I'm going to think of a plan, just need a moment."

Ed carefully walks them backwards to a wall, gently pressing Stede against it. "Go on."

He can't help but moan at the chance to grind against Ed's thigh. This is outside of anything he's done before, and it's electrifying. All need and want and feeling, nothing like the overthinking he did in bed with Mary.

"We'll go find him when the sun is up," Ed murmurs, eyes fluttering shut as Stede moves.

"You didn't want him to go, did you?"

Ed shakes his head. "He's my friend."

Stede twines his hands in Ed's hair, pulling him close for another kiss.

Morning then. That's soon enough, and surely he can't have gone far.

Izzy wakes to a backache.

"Stupid fucking tree," he groans as he stands, only to smash his foot into a large rock.

"Stupid fucking rock!"

He whips around to go the other way, and a vine on the ground trips him.

"Stupid fucking island," Izzy spits. "Stupid fucking Bonnet, Ed-"

He pauses. He doesn't mean that. Not about them.

He drops back down by the tree, and lets himself snuggle up against it, knees pulled up to his chest.

At least here, he can cry in peace.

"Olu, you're in charge," Stede declares. "That means whatever he says goes!"

"What if he tells us to mutiny against you?" The Swede asks.

Stede frowns. "I'd hope you wouldn't. Would really prefer you not, actually."

"Why would you want to mutiny?" Ed asks sharply.

"No one is going to mutiny," Olu interjects. "We'll be fine. Not like we're going anywhere until you two are back anyway."

"Do you promise no mutiny plans?" Stede asks. "Because you guys did already nearly do that once to me, so. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice-"

"Just go get him," Olu sighs. "I promise. No mutiny plans, nothing except chores and fucking around doing whatever."

Ed nods. "I think that works. Stede?"

"Sounds good," Stede says. "Shall we?"

The dinghy is heavy with them, their supplies, and extra things Izzy might need as well in it.

It isn't anything much, but Stede fears being unprepared. A thick sweater in case he's cold or sick, new trousers (actually an old black velvet pair of breeches Stede never really liked on himself), extra food, bandages, water.

"You're sure he went this way?" Ed asks as he rows. "I don't see anything in the distance."

"Well, we kept going after he left," Stede replies. "So we've got a ways to go, most likely. Let me know when you want me to take the oars for a bit."

"I'm good," Ed grunts, fighting against the waves. His bare bicep flexes, and Stede can't look away.

"Can I try something?"

Ed looks at him. "What is it?"

Stede can't kneel in the dinghy, but the wooden plank seats are close enough for him to gently reach over and feel Ed's bicep.

Ed blushes and grins. "Thanks. That's what a fuck ton of rowing like this will get you, eventually."

"How long do you think it'll take for me?" Stede asks.

"Dunno," Ed replies. "I mean, your arms are nice already. Not that more muscle is a bad thing, and you'll look good with it. Really fucking good."

Ed pulls the oars in for a moment, and leans in to kiss Stede hard. "Sorry. Couldn't hold that back."

Stede sighs happily. Who knew kissing and the littlest touches could feel this good. "Please, don't hold back."

"Greedy," Ed teases.

"I am," Stede says, with an excited giggle. "Could I try something else?"

"Should I keep rowing?" Ed asks.

"I think you could," Stede replies, and traces over the buttons of the fall-front of Ed's trousers. "Now, I've never done this but I've had it done to me, so I don't think I can fuck it up too badly-"

He undoes the buttons to free Ed's already half hard cock, and awkwardly leans down further to take him into his mouth.

"Fucking-" Ed gasps and Stede hears an oar clatter into the boat. "I thought your hand maybe, I didn't expect-"

Stede tries to dig in his mind for what Mary used to do for him, then it clicks.

What would he want done if it was him on the receiving end?

It seems to be what Ed wants as well, his free hand moving to rest over Stede's as it grips his thigh.

"Rowing," Ed gasps a moment later. "Right, fuck. I can do that."

Stede hums happily around Ed's cock, and Ed lets out a whimpering whine.

But he does start to row again as Stede sucks him off, though the extra motion makes it more interesting to manage his mouth and hands all at once.

If his technique is missing anything, Ed doesn't seem to care. He rows on, occasionally whining and pausing to toss an oar back in the boat before twining his fingers in Stede's hair.

Ed taps his shoulder rapidly after another few moments.

He could stop. But he also recalls how good it felt when Mary would keep going as he came, and even if he can't swallow, maybe Ed won't mind.

The other oar clatters into the dinghy on his other side, and Ed's hips jerk up off his seat.

Swallowing isn't in the cards, at least not now, so Stede lets Ed's come fall from his mouth so he can keep sucking.

"Okay," Ed pants. "Fuck, too much, Stede-"

Stede pops back up and winces. "Next time should maybe do this elsewhere. Don't think my back liked that much, but it was worth it. Did I do alright?"

Ed leans forward to rest his head against Stede's shoulder, his hand busy tucking himself away and doing up his trousers.

"Is that a yes?" Stede chuckles at Ed's breath on his neck, the almost inaudible whines he presses into Stede's skin with kisses.

"Yeah," Ed sighs finally. "You did good. Fucking hell, you did very good."

"Really? I know I'll need more practice," Stede says.

"Enthusiasm can make up for more than you'd expect," Ed says. "Okay. Hate to ask, but I'm still all jelly-feeling. Could you row?"

"Absolutely," Stede replies. "You want to stay there?"

"For another minute at least. You're comfy."

Stede smiles and gently rests his head against Ed's. "You are too."

In the distance, he can barely make out a strip of sand and trees.
