FIC:
‘Your destination is ahead on the right.’ Weiss glanced out of the right window, noticing the narrow gravel road.
“That must be it.” Turning onto the road her car jerked slightly as she drove up toward a rustic two-story house with a familiar beat-up red pickup truck parked in the driveway. Pulling up next to it, she put her car in park unbuckling her seatbelt, looking over the seat at Ivory where she sat, playing with a stuffed rabbit, kicking her legs back and forth. “You ready?”
“Yuh-uh!” Ivory chirped as she began to unbuckle herself. Turning off the engine, it made a clunking sound that didn’t fill Weiss with much confidence.
“Oh, that didn’t sound good...” Gently she stroked the steering wheel before she grabbed her purse and stepped out into spring evening air. Slamming the door closed she moved around the front just as Ivory skipped into view. The blue sundress had definitely been the right choice. That and the white buckle sandals made her look like an entirely different child. If not for the frog purse she had insisted on bringing everywhere. Shaking her head Weiss blew some air out her nose. ‘If she’s happy that’s all that matters.’
Approaching the front porch, she watched Ivory jump up the stairs stumbling slightly. She waved her arms attempting to catch her balance. Weiss placed a hand on her back helping her keep herself upright. “You good?”
“Yup!” Ivory nodded, jumping onto the final step. “Can I ring the doorbell?”
“Sure,” Weiss said with a short laugh as she watched as Ivory reached up on her tiptoes just as barely managing to press the button. It rang out in the standard ‘Ding. Dong. Ding.’
Ivory beamed up at Weiss obviously very proud of her accomplishment. “I reached it.”
“Yeah,” Weiss said, placing a hand on Ivory’s back. “You’ve gotten so big,” Weiss said, causing Ivory to throw her shoulders back, puffing her chest out. The doorknob rattle and turned, the door swinging open inwards revealing the one and only Ruby Rose. She wore a faded grey shirt that seemed to say Feldspar Track and Field around the same mid-howl wolf from the water tower. The sleeves had been cut off revealing toned along with a farmer’s tan. She leaned against the door, reaching down to adjust her pants, a pair of black gym shorts. Weiss looked down at her own outfit. A sheer white blouse with a faux ribbon attached to the collar was tucked into a blue A-line shirt. Weiss suddenly felt incredibly overdressed.
Ivory was practically bouncing in place and eventually, the excitement bubbled over as she jumped over to Ruby. “Ruby! Ruby! Ruby!”
“Ivory! Ivory! Ivory!” Ruby said easily matching Ivory’s energy as she placed her hands on her knees leaning down so she was level with Ivory who placed her hands behind her back, rocking back on her heels.
“Did you know that we’re here for dinner?”
“What!?” Ruby exclaimed, glancing up at Weiss. “Really!?”
“Yup! Really really!”

Scrapped Alt of Kotwr ch. 74 - Love & Lineage
Ruby stared between Weiss and the armored fay, completely unsure. Not unsure of herself, per se, but unsure of exactly what was happening, because from what she could see…
Well, it didn't look good, and that was ignoring the fact that Weiss was encased in a block of solid ice.
Weiss was crazed— no, frenzied would be more appropriate. Bloodlust burned in her eyes, the usual blue tone of her irises mulled into something closer to a hazy indigo, with the whites clouded by a light shroud of red. Her face was almost entirely covered in blood, mainly from a vicious scar up the left side, but it also actively poured from the sides of her lips.
And, when Weiss opened her mouth to speak, Ruby's heart leapt into her throat.
“Enough to give me a real… kick!”
Her voice, her teeth… good gods…
And then those teeth were facing her, Weiss’ thirsting, psychotic eyes locking onto Ruby's own, and thick blood was spewing with her demand:
“Fuck's sake, Ruby, kill him!”
Ruby did not move. Weiss’ request sounded more like a threat, locking her legs in place. She couldn't move a muscle, not before her opportunity passed and the fay turned towards her.
Kill him?
“I…” Ruby weakly croaked, “I can't—”
Weiss stared at her with disbelief, but the fay acted decisively, bounding across the path towards Weiss, uncaring for how heavy his armor must be.
Ruby reached out from the grass, her feet landing on flagstone. She didn't have any weapons; she'd blown through all her Aura to get to Weiss as quickly as possible, and now this fay had the pointed talons of his gauntlet pressed threateningly against Weiss’ temple, drawing a crimson bead.
Ruby raised her hands placatingly. “Look, I'm sure this is all a misunderstanding— or Weiss said something horribly offensive to you, which she will apologize for— but violence isn't the way to go.”
The fay cackled. “Sure it is! I love violence!”
Ruby winced. So it was like that. Great. “Okay, well… uh…”
Weiss’ wide eyes weren't scared at all, surprisingly, and she seemed to be trying to extend her neck up so she could take a bite out of this stranger's hand.
Ruby continued, summoning some false confidence from deep in her soul. “Well, I'm a Huntress, so you shouldn't trifle with my friends. She's very important to me; I'm afraid you'd have to face my full wrath if any harm came to her.”
Weiss broke from her aggressive biting attempts just to give Ruby the most disappointed look the smith had ever seen.
The fay laughed again. “Very important to you, you say?”
Ruby realized how grave of a mistake she made. “N-no, I— wait, who is that lady?”
The fay wasn't at all convinced, and dragged his clawed fingers down, digging them deeper as he cut all the way to her jaw, surely grazing bone with how far he'd pressed the talons into her face.
To her credit, Weiss seemed pretty unfazed by what must be excruciating pain. Actually, with the way she was biting her lip, it looked like she was trying to hide a smirk.
“So,” the fay drawled into Weiss’ ear, “you mean a lot to this one? I didn't know Schnees could form real, human bonds like that.”
Weiss’ restrained smile twisted into cruel rage as she snapped and gnashed her teeth at the fay, who only had to shrink back a couple inches to be out of her ice-locked range. “Fuck you!” She wrenched her neck up and snapped at him, dragging the claws through her flesh once more. “Silence! Die!”
“Weiss, stop!” Ruby pleaded, unable to watch the girl eviscerate her own face any further.
The duelist's rage broke, becoming something desperate as she turned back to Ruby. Her muddled gaze drew Ruby's eyes back towards her. “Ruby!” she called, voice haggard. “Ruby, help! Don't look at me! Go away!”
Ruby reeled from her contradictions, fists clenching anxiously. The well of her soul was trickling in once more, but it refilled slower than ever. “Weiss, I… I can't, I don't have a weapon, my Aura—”
Ruby had apparently been bold to assume Weiss couldn't get scarier, because she watched her arm suddenly burst from the ice, twist fully out of its socket, and arc up to the fay's head.
He dodged at the last second, but he wouldn't be left unscathed. Weiss’ saber cleft his long ear from his skull with ease, drawing a spurt of purple blood as the fay reeled, clutching the hewn flesh and yelling through gritted teeth. “Cunt!” He screamed, “I'll fucking—”
“Ruby, here!” Weiss called. Her dislocated arm laid sickeningly limp at her side, her sword dropped from her fingers. “The sap, drink it! It'll give you strength!”
Ruby darted to her side, draining her barely-recovered Aura with a rapid burst of rose petals. Indeed, Weiss’ cut had drawn a long line up the tree in its path, and a trickle of glittering red sap bled from the wound.
“Take it, Ruby,” Weiss begged, voice rising and falling randomly, still rough like she'd been eating stones. “See through new eyes, find your strength, kill the shim.”
Ruby reeled from the slur, but Weiss’ discolored eyes were miles away. “Weiss, what's wrong?” She asked. “This isn't you.”
“Not me!” Weiss loudly repeated, cackling. “Me, me! I've never been more Weiss, Ruby! Now drink the fucking sap!”
Ruby felt sick to her stomach. Closer now, she could see Weiss’ gnashing teeth with clarity. Where once had been a full set of whites— likely bleached and only a little offset— now there menaced four pairs of vicious fangs, forcing out Weiss’ canines and incisors as long, sharp replacements had shoved their way to the surface. They barged through her gums, making way for themselves by forcing her other teeth aside and causing them to bunch and overlap at the front. Ruby turned her eyes.
“W-Weiss, your…” Ruby wanted to point out the teeth— they were too prevalent not to mention— but the blood loss was the bigger problem. Half of Weiss’ face had been shred to pulpy ribbons, the wound across the other half was barely closed, and Ruby could see a huge bloom of red through the ice, somewhere around her chest area. “You've lost a lot of blood, we need to—”
“Hey!”
Oh, that's right, the fay. Ruby protectively placed herself between him and her paramour, even though Weiss was definitely the most threatening of the two.
His chain-wrapped hand held the bleeding notch where his ear used to be. “That's my quarry, little girl,” he snarled. “Begone, before you join her.”
Ruby let the threat roll off of her; Pyrrha had said worse, done worse, and yet Ruby remained. “I'm not going to do that.”
Valerius’ eyes narrowed, observing her, analyzing her, just as she did the same to him. He would pounce soon, Ruby could see that from the twitch of his fingers and the tightening of his shoulders, but he clearly had something to say.
He stared at her, rage sobering, face pinching as if he were trying to remember something buried deep He did that for a long time, his muscles slackening as his face slowly dawned with a mixture of awe and terror. “L— Legatus?”
Ruby frowned, confused. “Pardon?”
He eyed her, still holding his shorn ear as he took careful steps towards her.
Ruby tensed. “Hey!” She shouted, muscles tightening in anticipation. “Don't get any closer, I'll… I'll cast a spell on you!”
The fay smirked. “Roseus, desine. Scio te.”
Ruby froze. She didn't understand what he was telling her, but the one word she could catch entrapped her. Roseus, like her mother, but not quite. The name latched onto her soul and made her eyes tingle.
He came nearer, only a lunge and a half away, but Ruby was too stiff with shock to fight. Suddenly he stopped, and his eyes widened, smirk falling. “Ah, I see,” he looked around the sides of her head and frowned, disappointed. “So you're medius, are you?”
Ruby backed up, but she only got one step back before her heel budged Weiss’ block.
“The sap, Ruby,” Weiss whispered as she neared, “take some, or give it to me. I can get us out of this.”
Ruby ignored her; something was very wrong with Weiss, and she had a sinking feeling it was because of that sap.
“A human would've used magic by now,” the fay reasoned, “and a fay… well, you'd look like a fay. That thing you did, with the red and the speed, that's your Animus, right? Your Semblance?”
Ruby gulped. “N-no.”
He smirked. “You're her daughter, aren't you?”
Ruby's eyes darted everywhere but his. “Whose?”
The fay laughed, then drew took up the longsword at his feet in one fluid motion. It was thin, with a cruciform crossguard, and the blade had a slight undulation. It was more reflective than any steel Ruby had ever seen, and had a brilliant sparkle.
He moved suddenly, causing Ruby to jump, but it was only to throw his sword her way. Bewildered, she fumbled it edge-first, the blade making her Aura shimmer as it glided dangerously between her fingers.
She bent half over to pick it up when she remembered who had thrown it to her, and her head shot up to watch him.
The fay's arms were crossed over his chest, his lips were set in an impatient line, and he tapped his foot in annoyance. Seeing her caution, he shrugged. “Please, I'm not just going to kill Aelia's child while it's disarmed. Take the sword, let the Roseus line die with respect.”
Ros-ay-us, why did he say it like that? “It's Rose,” she corrected, slowly taking the offered sword. “And who's Aelia?”
“Rose?” His face twisted with disgust. “Ugh, she spent too long in that godless realm, too much iron in her brain. To abandon her gens so brazenly…”
Ruby's stance tweaked a little awkwardly. “Wh… huh?”
“What's your mother's name, girl.”
Ruby shifted, feeling the weight of the fay’s longsword. It was odd, heavier than she'd expected for its size, but counterbalanced perfectly. She only lamented her lack of longsword experience; if history was anything to go by, she'd mangle this poor blade. “Summer Rose. Why?”
The fay laughed. “Summer? Really? Little on-the-nose isn't it?” In a mumble, he added, “Not as much as Rose, I guess.”
“I don't know what—”
He was upon her in the blink of an eye, crossing the distance and covering his advance by cracking his chain-whip towards her face.
Ruby rolled to the side, narrowly ducking below the links— the fay was fast; his clawed gauntlet was already raised for a slash, but Ruby wouldn't be fazed, not after everything she'd been through. She stabbed towards his unarmored arm, spearing directly through his forearm and making him jerk. His gauntlet kept falling, but his momentary fault gave her an extra second to kick out his knee.
Ruby scrambled back and tried to plant her feet, but the fay’s chain ensnared her ankles, pulling her legs out from under her. She hit the ground hard and grunted, all the wind forced out of her lungs as her arms splayed out, barely keeping her grip on the longsword. She lay essentially prostrate before Weiss’ frozen figure.
“Ruby!” Weiss cried. “Ruby, get up!”
Ruby groaned. Yeah, yeah, she was gonna get up; she'd been through worse. She just needed him to get a little closer.
“Ruby, please!” Weiss screamed, her voice bloodcurdling in the way it tore from her throat. “Get up and mur— argh! Fight!”
Ruby looked up at her, unable to help herself. Was she getting better?
Weiss was watching her, eyes wide, still crazed, but… blue. Not the brilliant cerulean she was used to, but getting closer, and the whites had clarified a little. Ruby hoped these were all good signs.
But it wasn't the time for musing, the fay was approaching, almost within fighting distance, and as Ruby's eyes fell from Weiss, she realized something.
The saber— it was right there, its resplendent silver decorated with stripes of purple blood. Cursed, but surely powerful— powerful enough to get her out of this mess without risking herself or Weiss.
Ruby scoffed. She preferred two weapons, anyways.

Are you cool with expanding on the next generation of Team RWBY/AKA on their children?
Hell yeah, I love these lil' gremlins.
Just for this ask, obviously it's the kids that are from specifically Team RWBY, but that means one of the main team isn't included since he's just Adam/Zanthus' kid.
Tumblr media
Obviously we have Sun Guiying, who's arguably the main protagonist of the sequel and is the Strawbana child!
She's the only child between Sun and Ruby, and was raised in Vale City with Sun, since Sun as Ozpin's next host had to be near Beacon to help Glynda with the Academy. But Ruby as a Huntress takes her job very seriously, it's something she''s always wanted to do since she was a kid, but that desire does sometimes eclipse her duties as Guiying's mother.
Ruby is by no means a BAD mother, she's actually good when she's there, she just needs to remember to actually be there. The issue is that this is part of what feeds into Guiying's inferiority issues.
Because silver eyes becomes more common knowledge in the RWBY future, and when you hear so many stories of how your mum, nan and uncle and aunts, and even one of her cousins all had these cool eyes, and you don't, it's a little hard not to feel sensitive about it.
Which is why Guiying is represented by the blue rose. She's copying Ruby's path, becoming a Huntress, always ready to jump into the fight, because she's partially fueled by the desire to be like them. She wants to be special without really understanding just how much trauma the silver eyes have brought Ruby.
Her allusion is the Vermillion Bird, or the Monkey Zodiac for a minor one. As well as that, her Semblance is Solarflare, the ability to teleport through ports of light similar to Ruby's Petal Burst, while keeping Sun's Via Sun light theme.
Then we have the Monochrome triplets, starting with:
Tumblr media
Chandra Schnee, the main Monochrome child and Guiying's team leader for Team CSYN (Cyan).
Now I made Chandra to almost be a foil for Guiying. She's everything Guiying wanted. She's smart, she's had the familial attention, she has the Schnee Semblance, and Chandra is very much the girl who doesn't think twice about it. She's worked for it, so she got it.
Very much an opinionated person who's a self-admitted perfectionist. Weiss and Blake learned from their own past mistakes and tried to raise Chandra to not repeat them, but that ego is pretty much a family genetic trait at this point.
Her love for fighting and showing her skills does have some downsides besides alienating her teammate, and that's because while training when she was younger, she accidentily scarred her sister, Merrill. It was a sobering moment for her, which pushed Chandra to take her work very seriously because she knows just what she's capable of.
So because Chandra is so grounded in reality, she does butt heads with Guiying and her more idealised view of becoming a Huntsman.
She's also the White Tiger for her team's Four Gods allusions. As mentioned before, she has the Schnee Glyph Semblance like Weiss and Whitley, but the Schnee Semblance has a glyph unique to each weilder.
Chandra's is Ice Clones. Her glyph allows her to summon up to three ice clones of herself to fight with her. They don't have aura and are fragile, but the extra numbers helps her for support or allow Chandra a distraction to retreat or retaliate.
Tumblr media
Wisteria is technically the oldest triplet, as much as you can be, and she's the one who decided to go into business and continue the downscaled SDC after Weiss and Whitley, since Whitley himself doesn't have any kids.
All three of the triplets were taught combat for self defense, but while Chandra went to the Huntsmen Academies and Merrill went into the military, Wisteria didn't and went into business instead.
But while she's not the strongest, she's the smartest, and they know it. Not only from an analytical way, as she's a wizz with numbers and economics, but she's very much a people's person with a sharp eye for spotting out behaviours. Chandra is too egotistical and Merrill is too blunt.
So her design takes more after Weiss' when she was home in Atlas, but redesigned to suit both Wisteria's colour pallete and the bow motif that was canon Blake's.
Her allusion is the wisteria tree in Japanese culture, symbolising longevity and love, as her love and desire to see her family continue is a major part of her character. Her Semblance has been unlocked through her trainin, but she doesn't have the Schnee Semblance like her two sisters.
Instead, her Semblance is Hysteria. By releasing small purple petals around her, the pheromones that they emit will induce drowsiness, nausea and even cause some people to hallucinate. The pheromones are odorless, so an enemy won’t discover it through smell until they’ve already inhaled it.
Tumblr media
Merrill is the last Monochrome triplet who decided to go into the military, so her design went more into the formal military wear that Atlas operatives commonly wear. She's not old enough to go further up the ranks, since she's seventeen at the start of the story, but she has some promising abilities that could propel her.
She's also the only triplet that inherited Blake's ears. As the most apparent Faunus, even with the other two triplets being known for their Faunus mother, Merrill gets the worst for her ears, especially since she stayed in Atlas with her mothers and Wisteria, while Chandra went to Menagerie.
After her incident with Chandra that left her blind in her left eye, Merrill does anything to hide away any reminder of the accident on her face, with her styled fringe and abversion to anything that might bring it up. She doesn't hate Chandra for it, but she very much blames her and the two aren't as close as they were as kids.
Other than that, she very much plays up the disciplined solider persona to try and hide away anything that would be seen as outside the norm. She wants to be left alone to fit in with everyone else, but underneath the strict stoicness, she has a very volatile temper.
Her allusion is the Matagot, the French cat that is either evil or good, and brings wealth to your home if fed.
Like Chandra, Merrill inherited the Schnee Semblance and can summon Glyphs, with her unique glyph being Void. She creates a glyph with a black hole in the middle, allowing Merrill to absorb any attack, or even push people in, and neutralise them. Obviously if you fall into it, you kinda die.
The last one of the Team RWBY kids is Eirian and Yang's two kids, starting with:
Tumblr media
Xiaolong Yinyue, their son and the third member of Team CSYN. He's also Guiying's cousin.
A very laidback type of guy, he's great when with the more childish Guiying and arrogant Chandra, but that laidback nature came because he was trained from a very young age to remmeber to keep his emotions in check, knowing the true story behind how Yang lost her arm.
Those lessons stuck with him, making him almost a mediator type who is very hard to push. He does have his own struggles, of course, he struggles knowing what his place in the world is. Yinyue went to the Huntsmen Acadmies because he doesn't know what else to do, rather mirroring Yang's own struggles when she was youger.
He just does what Guiying does. So long as she's happy, then he's happy, but spending your entire life making sure everyone else in comfortable left him floundering on what to do when he isn't needed anymore.
His allusion is the Azure Dragon, he very much keeps Yang's dragon motif while having Eirian's cool blue colouring. His semblance is Yin Release. With his own Aura, he can make phantom creatures, though he seems to prefer making dragons.
Tumblr media
The last child of Golen Fleece and this ask is Eluhlaza Esna, Yinyue's older sister.
While she is the oldest, she's not very mature and very much struggles with her anxiety, pretty much willingly letting Yinyue handle things whenever she can. She'll do it if pushed, but things can easily go wrong and push her back into her shell.
But her lack of courage is replaced with a deep love and pride in her younger brother. Eluhlaza is Yinyue's biggest cheerleader and encouraged him to try and find his place in the Huntsman Academies, since she knew he had been struggling with his self identity for a long time.
Like Yinyue, Eluhlaza was given some training when she was younger, but she very much is not a fighter like the rest of her family. She hates it.
Her allusion is the Lightning Bird from Zulu mythology, and had managed to unlock her Semblance; Overcharge. By converting energy, she is able to charge up to the point of generating sparks, inflicting electrical damage. A side effect of this is her body overheats so much that her hair starts burning like Yang's.
That's all the kids for Team RWBY either way, though!

Chapters: 4/15 Fandom: RWBY Rating: Mature Warnings: Graphic depictions of violence Relationships: Weiss Schnee/Pyrrha Nikos Summary: Pyrrha Nikos survived the Battle of Beacon. To say she survived  intact would be a bare-faced lie. The aura transfer failed to pass  Amber's powers to her, and she was left almost-dead by Cinder Fall.  Offered the chance to get back into the fight, Pyrrha will have to  contend with her new reality, swathes of her body replaced by metal and  wire.
It's fortunate, then, that General Ironwood is there to help.

Notes: I'm currently working on posting links to fics I forgot about to tumblr. I'm also trying a new format for posting said links. If you want to set the mood for the fic please check out the playlist for it and you can check out my ko-fi if you want.
Fic:
Weiss was woken up by the sound of a phone ringing off the hook. She blindly reached toward the sound, grabbing the phone from the receiver and pressing it to her ear. “Hello?” She mumbled groggily, annoyance leaking into her words.
“Hey. I’m gonna need you to check out in the next half hour or you’ll be charged double.” The voice was familiar, but Weiss couldn’t quite place it in her exhausted state.
“What!? What time is it?” Weiss was annoyed. Not only did someone wake her up, but they had the audacity of telling her to scram.
“It is, uh, 8:30.” The voice on the end replied, causing Weiss to run a hand over her face.
“And who told you to call me?” The tired mother wanted to know who thought they had the right to disturb her sleep.
“Well, my boss just told me to call up into room 206 and tell them that they have to be out by 9.”
“And your bosses name is?”
“Blake Belladonna Ma’am.”
Weiss pinched the bridge of her nose letting out a withering sigh. “Of course it is.” Moving to throw her legs over the side of the bed. “I’ll be down in ten minutes.” Weiss slammed the phone down on the receiver, angrily throwing back the comforter before pushing herself to her feet.
Moving around the bed, Weiss knelt beside her daughter gently shaking her awake, causing Ivory to mutter. “What?” She was obviously unaware of her current surroundings and situation.
“We have to go downstairs, peanut.” Weiss was less than thrilled about waking her daughter up already.
“S’eepy.” Ivory rubbed her eyes, wanting to continue her peaceful sleep.
Weiss brushed a strand of messy hair behind her ear, sighing as she had to play the firm mother. “I know so is mommy but I have to talk with the hotel staff.” Ivory looked sleepily up at her. “Once I’m done talking, we’ll get breakfast. Sound good?”
Ivory’s ears shot upright as she pushed herself upright excitedly. “Can I get pan’akes!?” For whatever reason, Ivory couldn’t quite pronounce ‘pancakes’.
The tired mother laughed, ruffling Ivory’s already messy hair. “Yeah. We can get you some pancakes.” Ivory jumped out of bed and made a running start for the door only to stop when Weiss cleared her throat. She turned, ears pressed against the top of her head to see Weiss holding her shoes. “Forgetting something?”
The small child threw her head back, letting out an overdramatic and drawn-out. “Nooooo!”
“Oh please, get over yourself, you little drama queen.” Weiss rolled her eyes watching as Ivory’s ears flicked to the side as Weiss undid the laces, gesturing for her to come forward which the child did rather reluctantly. Ivory sat down in front of Weiss, squirming as she slipped the shoes on her feet. “Over, under, pull it tight. Make a bow, pull it through to do it right.” Weiss sang as she tied the laces before repeating the rhyme as she tied her other shoe. “And done~” Weiss smiled down at Ivory, slapping her hands against her legs gently. “You’re ready to go downstairs.”
Ivory stood up, moving from foot to foot. Her face scrunched up in discomfort. “They’re pinchy.”

I may vehemently disagree with Ironwood over all the shit he’s pulled this episode, but when he pulled his arm out of the ring trap? holy SHIT.
It’s chapter 11; I feel like that was really significant from a storytelling perspective. Ironwood may have done some bad shit this episode, but I think the scene in the arena may have been code for who he really is at heart, deep down, under a ton of Atlesian conditioning.
3.11 had Yang lose her arm for Blake. 7.11 had Ironwood fuck up his arm for Atlas.
It at least shows where his heart is at, and I’m honestly really enjoying, from a writing perspective, the super grey morality they’ve got going with where they’ve taken him. It’s such a bad move, extremely ‘ends justify the means’ as I’ve seen people saying, and he’s become utterly terrifying, but his motivations - saving as many people as he thinks he can, being so desperate against what he perceives as an immovable, undefeatable force, grasping at anything he can to maintain as much control as he can in this situation...it’s a huge insight into the way people trained in Atlas do and perceive things, the values they’re taught, the sheer coldness of it, but with at least a semi-right intent deep down.
It shows up in his order to Winter, too, and how she at least appears, so far to be following it. I’ve seen people discussing how Weiss seems terrified on behalf of her sister, for what becoming a Maiden means, what’s happened to all the others, but I think there’s more too it. Watching that scene, that’s not what I saw in Weiss. I saw her utter horror at what her sister has been asked to do. Her sister has been asked to murder an innocent woman to gain power.
Even if the idea behind it - giving power to someone who is in good enough health to do something with it - is a ‘good’ one strategically, the way to get there is utterly horrifying and unacceptable. This, too, echoes something that happened earlier - Raven killed the previous Spring maiden, and although she doesn’t outright say it, it was likely in part to gain the power to protect her tribe. And it parallels how they were willing to kill Amber to give Pyrrha the Fall Maiden’s powers, too. It’s this recurring, echoing thing of “What are you willing to do to get the power to protect and save people?” and it’s so, so good, writing wise.
Anyway, the parallels to 3.11, and to other parts of the series, and what they mean, were so, so strong in this episode. I’m so excited to see where they take everything. And I’m taking fucking notes because I can only aspire to this level of subtle characterization and parallels in my own writing.

What if Penny only spoke in binary print outs (but nobody found it odd)?
(Tweaking this one so only Weiss finds it odd)
Weiss: *looking at Penny* Isn't she a bit…. off?
Ruby: Nope
Weiss: She speaks in binary printouts.
Ruby: Tech enthusiast.
Weiss: *narrowing her gaze at Penny* Are you a human?
Penny: *prints out a piece of paper* 01001001 01101101 00100000 01100001 00100000 01101110 01101111 01110010 01101101 01100001 01101100 00100000 01101101 01100101 01100001 01110100 00100000 01110000 01100101 01110010 01110011 01101111 01101110 00101110
Weiss: *sighing* I dont understand this.
Ruby: *takes the paper and looks it over* She says she's a normal human.
Weiss: *she isnt a human!
Penny: *printing out another paper* 01001101 01101111 01110010 01100101 00100000 01101110 01101111 01110010 01101101 01100001 01101100 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100001 01101110 00100000 01111001 01101111 01110101 00101100 00100000 01100001 01110011 01110011 01101000 01101111 01101100 01100101 00101110
Weiss: Ruby, translate?
Ruby: *reads it over* She cant wait to be best friends with you.
Penny: 01010010 01110101 01100010 01111001 00100000 01101001 01110011 00100000 01101101 01101001 01101110 01100101 00101110 00100000 01001100 01100101 01100001 01110110 01100101 00100000 01110101 01110011 00100000 01100001 01101100 01101111 01101110 01100101 00101110
Weiss: What's it say this time?
Ruby: To quit being jealous.
Penny: *picking up Ruby and walking away*
Yang: *laughing* Sorry Weiss, that is not at all what those papers said.
Weiss: And you dont think this is weird? At all?
Yang: Some people use different ways to talk. You should quit making fun of her.
Weiss: *pouting* I refuse to admit defeat to a robot.
Weiss: *catches a piece of paper from Penny that reads 01001001 01101101 00100000 01100110 01110101 01100011 01101011 01101001 01101110 01100111 00100000 01100110 01110010 01101001 01100101 01101110 01100100 00100000 01010010 01110101 01100010 01111001 00100111 01110011 00100000 01100010 01110010 01100001 01101001 01101110 01110011 00100000 01101111 01110101 01110100 00100000 01110100 01101111 01101110 01101001 01100111 01101000 01110100 00101110* Yang?
Yang: *takes the paper* You just lost any chance of dating Ruby.
Weiss: *growling* She'll pay.
