in her youth, Clea was always a little headstrong. the youngest of five kids, the rules had relaxed considerably, and she was given basically the run of the house. her situation was also a little different - her older siblings had all been raised by her mother, Jenny, and father, Walter. Clea, on  the other hand, was raised by Jenny and her ‘best friend’, after Walter’s passing. and yes, Jenny and Paige got married after they legally could. though her siblings were...eventually supportive, it’s led to Clea feeling alone despite the largess of her family

the leading member of the yearbook committee through all four years, she figured out pretty quickly that photography and all things related was her passion. her portfolio is good enough to get her a full ride to her (admittedly) third choice of college. she took it, not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, and kept a steady 3 point low something average. probably having a little something to do with junior year

he was just about the handsomest thing she’d ever seen on ice skates, and she fell deeply, deeply in love. they had sparks immediately, and their relationship went from 0-100 in a way that Clea had never expected

even though she was head over heels in love with him, Jenny and Paige didn’t love him. her half siblings were more of a mixed bag, but Clea didn’t care. she loved him. and when he proposed at her graduation party, she gleefully accepted Tristan’s proposal

after about a year of engagement, he sat her down and told her that he wanted to enlist. having just started working in her field, the future looking up, Clear supported him, worry not quite kicking in until she saw him in his fatigues. their wedding was a near rushed, private thing his parents backyard, and they moved in shortly after.

to say that the marriage had problems was putting it lightly.  despite truly impassioned attempts, clea didn’t get pregnant at all until after his enlistment and first deployment, ending in a heartbreaking miscarriage which only served to throw them further apart. they lashed out at each other, and often tense silence reigned when he was home and not abroad. their good periods lasted longer than their bad, but when he was gone nearly a year and rarely called home with her going through yet another miscarriage mostly alone, Clea started to think their marriage was over in anything but name.

then he got honorably discharged, and for the second time in their relationship he sat her down, and told them he wanted to work on him, and them together.

they’ve been in couples therapy for about a year now and it’s not going amazing (not helped by the fact that TRISTAN FREAKING CHEATED). if some sort of breakthrough doesn’t happen soon, it doesn’t bode very well for them both.

TIDBITS

klover was where the two settled after her husband was officially discharged. while he marriage got worse, Clea’s career actually took off a bit, and her advertising pedigree was good enough to get her a job at an agency at the closest big city to clover. commuting isn’t her favorite thing, but she does truly love her job

even when she and her husband were having problems, travelling with him those first few years had been really fun to her. her best memories of their relationship are before their marriage, and then at that time. it was less complicated before they lost two members of their family,  after all.

what she’s gone through has made Clea a quieter person. she’s quick to smile, but slow to laugh. loves to curl up with a romance book where she can imagine herself away. 

she only says whats truly on her mind when she’s drunk or arguing with her husband, which is kind of a yikes, Clea, but what can you do?

she still deeply, deeply loves her husband, under all that anger and pain

she struggles with repression, as she keeps her feelings close to her chest until they burst out of her

she takes photography jobs for pleasure, as she controls her own schedule more often than not. her job has made it so that she’ll never be really worried about finances, though good investing helped with her very decent salary

she is a SUCKER for historical romance. Outlander is her favorite show.

CLEA HAWKINS INSTAGRAM

POST ONE: For as long as Clea can remember, love has been loved in her household. Her moms got married after it became legal in their state, and its an issue quite important to her. POST TWO: Even though her marriage has been rocky for a long time, Clea has enough pictures of her and Tristan to fill more than a few albums. She’s been clicking pictures since the beginning of their relationship, and as a photographer the majority of them are damn good. POST THREE: She and Tristan have a four year old Australian Shepherd mix named Yoda. He is a very handsome boy and often cameos on her stories and posts. POST FOUR: Her home is classic and woodenly vintage, with a firepit in the back. It’s a good place for her (or Tristan) to stare moodily at after a fight or during a lonely night. POST FIVE: Clea rarely posts her own face on her own instagram by itself, but she was promoting a interview she was giving for work. Had to be done. POST SIX: The only way she keeps her sanity is with the Klover Wine Club (thank you girls!). POST SEVEN:  An anniversary post, supported by Clea’s butt kissing and eager assistant, Jake. She did kind of hate him for posting that, especially when he knows good and well how many phone calls he has fielded from Tristan when she’s not in the mood to talk to him.
