Tournament of Souls is an wip interactive fiction. The story follows the MC as they're thrust into Tournament against their will. Being the child of the most famed winner of the Tournament, the choice to enter was never really theirs.

The Tournament sees the MC traveling to another dimension, the Solace, in order to bring back a girl who's fate has long since been decided for her. To win the Tournament, they will need to be the first competitor to bring their girl back to the Circle, a group of six past winners. Upon their return, they must undergo a series of tests to determine if they’re deserving of the win.

The Tournament of Souls is the time to make a name for yourself, to prove you're worthy of standing amongst legends. If you win, that is...

Can you brave all the challenges of the Tournament has to offer and win your freedom? Or will you buckle under pressure and lose everything you once held dear?

Play as a trans or cis male, female, or nonbinary character (and customise your appearance and personality)

Tabitha Conley: she is your target in the Tournament. Your love is forbidden, discovery of its existence would be fatal to both you and her. And yet you can't help feeling drawn to her.

Euric Trask: he is your biggest competitor. He's strong, short-tempered, fearless and fear inspiring. You find yourself both intimidated by and attracted to him, and yet despite being pitted against each other, you can't bring yourself to hate him.

Destery/Dimitri Sadler (F/M): D is the healer of your sector. They've seen you at your best, dealt with you at worst and they know all your dark secrets. You never thought your relationship could be more than what it is but being around D for so long has proven that stranger things have happened.

Lenora/Leon Clarke (F/M): L is your best friend. They are your life line; you never would've made it this far without them by your side. Though your feelings towards them may be complicated, you know one thing is certain: neither of you can live without the other.

Alani/Alfie Vos (F/M): A is a soldier working for the Circle. They are a mystery, an ever present shadow that you know nothing about. But there’s a spark between you and that’s what keeps you around, wanting and needing more.

Destery/Dimitri: Roach from @the-passenger-if. Both of them are chaotic neutral and shameless flirts. They'd have a lot of fun together - some might even say too much fun.

Lenora/Leon: Shawnie from @barbwritesstuff. They love being around out going people and going on new adventures, so Shawnie is honestly their dream date. The party wouldn't end with these two together.

You’re just pulling the kettle off the stove when Euric appears in the doorway to the kitchen blurry-eyed and yawning. “I’m just about to make coffee, do you want -”

You lose your train of thought as you look up at him. There he stands, tired and beautiful, wearing your shirt.

“What?” he grumbles, rubbing his eyes as he approaches you. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

You try to fight the smirk twitching at your lips but you fail miserably. You set the kettle down and turn your body to face him, your hip resting against the counter. “Is that my shirt?”

This seems to wake him up. He looks down at his chest with furrowed eyebrows as if the shirt somehow offended him. “Uh, no,” he states before looking back at you. “I don’t know. I have many suitors, it could be any one of theirs.”

“Euric, this my house.”

“I brought it with me?”

Your smile grows in amusement. “You like me.”

This seems to offend him even more than the shirt stretched across his broad chest. His eyebrows shoot upward and he shakes his head so vigorously, you fear he’ll give himself a headache. “Now, I didn’t say that, MC.”

“You’re wearing my clothes.”

“What were you saying about coffee?”

You push off the counter and come to stand before him, so close you have to tilt your head back to look at him. Your cheeks are starting to hurt from smiling too much. “Deny it all you want, Euric; you like me. And now I have proof.”

He stares down at you, silent and unamused. The tension builds between you but you refuse to break first. Finally, he huffs and breaks the silence. “You’re annoying. No wonder we’re sworn enemies.”

Before you can reply, he turns on his feet and leaves the kitchen. That’s as much of an admission as you’re going to get from him today. You grin at his retreating back. “So, no coffee then?”

Destery/Dimitri: D loves any kind of physical touch, especially ones that gives them the perfect opportunity to bite and kiss your neck.

Lenora/Leon: it makes them feel all giddy inside and they can't stop smiling afterwards. Luckily they're short, so they're always ready to receive a forehead kiss from you.

Alani/Alfie: they like to reciprocate the gesture each time and it often turns into a war between the two of you to see who can give the more forehead kisses in one sitting than the other. They usually tap out first though to make you happy.

Hand reveal

Can't say I ever expect to do a hand reveal but @thrill-seeker-if is very persuasive.

Tabitha: she has soft, warm hands that are kinda pudgy. She doesn't wear a lot of jewellery and she doesn't paint her nails either.

Euric: he has large, strong hands that are calloused from all his training

Destery/Dimitri: they have bony, kinda skeletal hands that are always kinda cold. They typically wear a lot of rings and like to paint their nails red or black.

Lenora/Leon: they have rather small hands and they quite soft as well. They also tend to bite their nails alot.

Alani/Alfie: similar hands to Euric, though their fingers are a bit shorter. They like wearing jewellery but they don't get to very often because of their job. They also keep their nails neatly cut and unpainted.

The ROs overhear the MC taking with a friend, and the friend asks why the MC has yet to ask out the RO. And the MC answers that the RO deserves better than them and that they are probably not interested in someone like them anyways. Let's say by now the ROs have realised that they have feelings for MC. How do they react?

Tabitha: this makes her sad. Like really fucking sad. Because how could you possibly think that about yourself? Everything you've done for her has been to save her and she loves you so much for that. She thereafter does everything she can to prove to you that you do deserve her.

Euric: he's pissed off. If either of you is undeserving of the other, it's him. You're so kind and caring, everything he's not. He's lucky enough to have you by his side being as unapproachable as he is and he wants you to know that. He waits until later when you're alone before showing how much you mean to him through aggressive affection.

Destery/Dimitri: this the dumbest conversion they've ever heard. They immediately march up to you and interrupt your conversation. Before you can question what they're doing, they grab your face and kiss you. When they pull away, they look at you square in the eyes, still holding your face. "Shut up; I like you. Now ask me out."

Lenora/Leon: like D, they're not having it. However, they're not as bold and will wait until you're alone before bringing the topic up. "Deserves better than you, huh?" They're about this close to slapping you senseless. "Now why do you think that?" They don't even let you speak before listing all the reasons they do deserve you.

Alani/Alfie: now this is confusing to them because you're one of the best, if not the best person they know. And they want you to know as much. They're hesitant to bring the topic up with you and when they do, they're very gentle in their approach. They sit you down and tell you that they overheard what you said and they tell you how very wrong you are. They finish off by letting you they have feelings for you too.

Euric: "Don't worry, MC, I'll protect you!" He'll hold you close to him and put on his tough guy face and do his tough guy walk to make sure no one messes with you.

Destery/Dimitri: they do their very best to make you laugh and realise that there isn't anything to be scared of. They hold your hand the entire time and point out faults in the decor and costumes. "Did you see that guy's hatchet?? That things barely sharp enough to cut through butter, let alone human skin. I think we'll be fine."

How would the ROs who are scared react to being with an MC who isn't scared?

Tabitha: she clings to your side, grip so tight on your arm you think she might break it. She kinda uses you as a human shield whenever there's a jump scare or a monster coming towards you. I mean, you're not scared so what does it matter?

Lenora/Leon: the fact that you aren't scared is nothing new to them but they still make you promise not to leave their side. They'll divert their attention to you whenever something scary happens and just look at your face until the moment passes.

Alani/Alfie: they vaguely wonder if there's something wrong with you by the fifth time a monster has jumped out at you and you haven't even batted an eye. At that point, their concern for you kinda overrides their fear so the rest of the house is smooth sailing.

You get the feeling Euric’s been avoiding you. You’ve been looking for him everywhere and you haven’t found him. His room, the whole of the training facility - it’s as if he’s disappeared into thin air. No one else has been able to point you in his direction either.

You’re confused. The two of you have been spending a lot of time together and you can tell his disdain for you is lessening into something more tolerable. You thought you were finally getting along and that you could be friends, perhaps even something more. You don’t know where the feelings for him came from but they’re there now. And you don’t see them going away any time soon.

You finally find him on the roof. He sits with his back to you, his legs dangling over the edge of the twelve storey building. A harsh breeze blows past you and you shiver, wishing you’d grabbed a jacket before coming up here. “Euric,” you say, calling out to him as you make your way towards him. His body tenses at your approach.

“Go away, MC. I don’t want to see you.” The words are thrown at you over his shoulder, his voice taking on a cold, hard edge. He heaves a sigh as you sit down beside him, shifting slightly away from you.

You ignore the bite of his words and look at him, your eyes tracing over the harsh lines of his face. “You’re a difficult man to find, you know that? I’ve been looking for you all over.”

“Did you ever consider that that was on purpose?” He clenches his jaw before turning his head to look at you, once more saying the words that are so difficult to hear. “I don't want to see you."

You do your best to hide the hurt that threatens to show on your face. “Are you gonna tell me why?” You raise an eyebrow at him when he doesn’t respond and instead looks away from you, dark eyes washing over the city below. “You never avoided me when you hated…so, what changed?”

“It doesn’t matter.”

“No, don’t do that. It matters. Tell me what changed so that I know how to fix it.”

“MC -”

“Just tell me, Euric; I can take it, I swear.”

“MC, stop,” he snaps, his jaw clenched tight. “It’s nothing you can fix so just go back downstairs and leave me alone.”

You sigh and get ready to leave him when you stop yourself. You’d put up with a lot from him in the beginning; the snide comments and remarks, the very real bruises and wounds from fighting with him. When the two of you started to at least sort of get along, you’d made a promise to never go back that way again. And so, you blink back the tears that have started to form and swallow the apology that’s been building in the back of your throat, holding your ground. “No,” you say and he looks at you, ready to once again tell you to leave him when you cut him off. “I’m not going anywhere, Euric, so just grow up and tell me.”

He huffs and shakes his head, before getting to his feet. You watch as he turns his back on you and makes for the door. “So, you're gonna leave then?"

"Pretty much!" He replies, not even bothering to look at you over his shoulder.

Anger and annoyance begin to replace the hurt feeling that had taken root in your chest as you get up, storming after him. "Euric!"

He whips around to face you, suddenly seeming much more like irate, menacing man you'd met that first day. "What? What do you want from me, MC?"

"I want you to stop being such a dick and tell me what's bothering you."

"This!" He yells, throwing his hand out in your direction and you take a step back, confused. "This is what's changed!" He takes a deep breath, visibly trying to calm himself down. "Because I can feel myself developing all these feelings for you and I know you are too. And it's wrong."

"What's so wrong about it?"

He laughs at that and you can't help but think that he sounds a little hysterical. "What's wrong?" He echoes. "What's not wrong? Why would you ever want to love me? Me, of all people, MC. I don't deserve anyone's love. All I do is hurt the people I care about..."

Your heart sinks a little at his admission and you step towards him, wanting nothing more than to comfort him. "That's not true, Ric."

"Oh, yeah? How many times did you go to the infirmary that first week because of me? How many times did I make you cry?" He allows you to step up to him, to wrap your arms around his middle. He sighs heavily, his voice dropping to something just barely above a whisper. "I'm not worth it, MC."

"Don't say that about yourself." You nuzzle into his chest and though he's slow to do so, you feel his arms come up around you. "I've already forgiven you for all of that, okay? You're worthy of love, of my love."

He takes a deep, shaky breath as he hugs you tighter. "Promise?"

"I promise."

Tabitha: definitely a romantic comedy, she wants to be that girl that finds the love of her life and gets her happily ever after. A specific movie would Enchanted.

Euric: an action movie, the more action and life threatening danger, the better. He's a certified adrenaline junkie. He'd want to live in Edge of Tomorrow

Destery/Dimitri: probably a psychological thriller, in which they'd almost definitely want to be the villain, or at least get up to a lot of mischief. They'd enjoy being in Black Swan.

Lenora/Leon: a drama. They lowkey live for drama and gossip so to live in an environment where the only thing that happens is drama, is their dream. They'd want to live Anna Karenina.

Alani/Alfie: a comedy. They really enjoy all the chaos that ensues in comedy movies so they'd want to experience that themselves. Theyd either want to be in Meet the Parents or Austin Powers. I can't decide which so I'm not gonna.

How would they fare in a horror movie setting?

Tabitha: she'd be the first one killed, like Drew Barrymore in Scream.

Euric: he's the killer. 100%.

Destery/Dimitri: they'd die because they decided to ignore the rules of horror movies and have sex. I mean it's horror movie 101 - no fucking if you wanna survive.

Lenora/Leon: they definitely try to stay away from the action as much as possible and if they do some how get involved, they'd try to Kevin McAllister their way to survival. They have a good chance of surviving, it just depends on the movie.

Alani/Alfie: they're the most logical character and they end up not only killing the villain (rip Euric) but they're also the final girl/guy.

26 - How do they flirt?

Very poorly. More often than not, he'll end up insulting you before spending the rest of the day wondering why his attempts to woo you haven't worked out yet.

30 - What's the quickest way to their heart?

If you can beat him in a fight, he's all yours. This probably goes without saying, but this only counts if he's already interested in you. Otherwise you'll just piss him off and leave him with a bruised ego.
