Hey sorry but quick question but are you from eastern europe? i saw your post about count vertigo being gay which is a totally valid take but then in the elaboration you brought up how since he's from eastern europe theres obvs homophobia giving him internal issues, is a VERY xenophobic take as a gay slavic person, the idea that eastern europe is “less progressive” or doesn’t have Cool Liberals like The WestTm. Also, Vlatlava is fictional, you can do whatever you want. Just letting you know.

Yeah, I'm from Poland actually and I'm constantly meeting Cool Westerners trying to convince me I'm probably surrounded my homophobes and hate myself or something fucking lol (not to mention how DC constantly fucks up Balkan/eastern-european countries like Markovia, Vlatava or my fav Modora – 4000 people and no progress going there because yeahhh big brain time was going on in DC headquarters)

This internalised homophobia thing was more of a "possibility" and something from the past than what I headcanon he is going through "right now". I should've probably stress that out so let me do it now:

My take is, Vertigo coming from royal family rather wasn't brought up in progressive environment (like, quick glance at any royal families – they are far from progressive) and especially as the last Vlatavian he might feel some pressure to continue the line, have kids, etc. If you picture him as religious/someone who used to be religious, it's def making things more difficult. In the comics we often see him struggling, fighting himself, being his own worst enemy, trying to make things right.

So, for me it's more like something he went through in the past and still may be a little anxious but he's strong, a survivor with a bright future.

I also generally thought it may make the character more relatable. Many of us, LGBT+ people, no matter where they are from, struggle somehow – not loving themselves, not accepting themselves, thinking they are less or broken (personal note: as an asexual and aromantic I can't tell you how many aros/aces I have met that admitted they were sure they are broken because no one ever reached out to them and helped them out. Heartbreaking). Giving more background to this character, making him a survivor who accepted himself as a whole seemed beautiful to me. But I could've totally fuck it up, which I'm very sorry for.

Being in tune with his needs and moods

Tearing down walls. So many walls omg Vertigo stop with the emotional walls we aren't on some TV show about construction sites

Introducing him to "fun plebe activities"

Werner teaching you to dance

Being sensitive to his facial expression because he was taught to keep poker face all the time

Cherishing his smiles, like, omg the Ice Queen is melting, he smiled for 0,0001 seconds!!!

Him kissing your hand every now and then, and sticking close to you every time you're together

Reminding him of appointments and where he put important things in because he forgets constantly
