I’m pretty sure if Sona really dies Alastair will be the one to look after the child. Not only because he’s older than Cordelia, but also because in TSC wiki it’s said he’s the ancestor of Emma and had a child:
Tumblr media
So, maybe he adopts, or maybe he just raises his sibling (Julian vibes). Thomas of course would be helping him as much as he could. Still I’m hoping Sona doesn’t die because *pain*

*ChoT spoilers!*
So this is about the blackmail letter Kamala found in her father's study, and what it might be about. If you haven't read it yet, there are screenshots of the letter on tumblr somewhere, and there are links to the whole excerpt (the first 4 chapters of the book). This part is at the end of the 4th chapter.
I've seen this mentioned before, and I've also seen a couple of people theorize it's addressed to Charlotte, but I am quite certain it's addressed to Charles.
To me, Charlotte seems unlikely as a recipient because Bridgestock describes the recipient as someone with similar political views. Charlotte is very progressive as a consul whereas Bridgestock is very conservative, their views do not match at all and Bridgestock does not respect her as a politician.
But Charles is far more conservative than his mother, and Charles had sought Bridgestock as an ally before, since that's the whole reason he got engaged to Kamala. Their views match enough that I think Bridgestock respects him as a politician.
Then there's the part where he describes the recipient as favoring the Herondales and Lightwoods more lately. We know that in ChoG, Charles was not favoring the Herondales. He was constantly picking Tatiana's side over them like the fool he is and making poorly thought out decisions in general. He wasn't present a lot in ChoI so the only thing we know he did politically is that screw up with the werewolves. But I think he does consider the Herondales and Lightwoods his family even though he often does not get along with them, so maybe Charles was acting more like it, especially after James was one of the people who saved him from Belial? However, I think Bridgestock must have written the letters before that happened since he left shortly after the battle to interrogate Tatiana and has been missing since.
Then Bridgestock brings up a secret the recipient things is well kept, but Bridgestock knows. Something that Bridgestock is willing to overlook, but many in the clave will not. I think this most likely refers to Charles being gay and possibly his relationship with Alastair? I'm not sure Bridgestock knows about the affair. He could have began to suspect Alastair and Thomas after the sanctuary, but I think again this would be too late for the letter and I don't think he could make assumptions about Charles based on that either. And it seems like Bridgestock is sure of it because he can hardly blackmail someone with vague suspicions. So I wouldn't know how Bridgestock found out, but he did, and he's threatening to out Charles if he doesn't cooperate with his scheme to kick out the Herondales.
The whole scheme Bridgestock has in mind implies that he also knows about Belial being Tessa's father, and that is the information he intends to use against them, which fits with an unexpected enemy making that information public. It could be either Bridgestock or Charles, but I'm thinking Charles, since Bridgestock is blackmailing him. I think Charles would definitely betray his family to protect his secrets.
What's also interesting is that Kamala came out to her mother. As expected, her mother's reaction was very negative, her mother was willing to pretend it never happened, however Kamala things her mother has suspected for a long time. Her mother also says that if Bridgestock ever found out, he'd throw her out onto the streets. Which is funny, if he is also willing to overlook Charles being gay, though I think that will only be as long as Charles does end up marrying and refrains from sleeping with men. And while I think Charles will end up marrying, I don't think he'll stop sleeping with men entirely. In the Edwardian era London there were gay bathhouses where men went to have anonymous sex with men, so he could easily keep doing that without his wife finding out.
This whole thing also makes me worry for Alastair because if Bridgestock knows Charles is gay, he very likely also knows about Alastair, which means Bridgestock can easily threaten to out him too if Alastair ever starts getting in his way, but I think Alastair is a lot less likely to cave to his demands.

Hear me out: James was supposed to die in ChoT
Not sure if someone has already said this, but I think James was supposed to die in the original ending of Chain of Thorns.
We all know that this book was supposed to have a much more devastating ending than it did and that CC reworked it because it was too sad.
And that whole thing with the paladin’s sword being able to heal the wounds it inflicted came completely out of nowhere. It was revealed in a really odd manner, and by Lilith herself - why would she even tell Cordelia that? I think it was added as an afterthought (as did so many parts of this book) and that James was initially supposed to sacrifice himself to kill Belial, but this time die in the process.
Continuation of the Herondale line would not be an issue - Cordelia would have already been pregnant by the time he died. (Why else would she let them finally confess their feelings and fix the miscommunications halfway through the book instead of the second to last chapter?). And they were married, so Cordelia was officially a Herondale, and so the child would get the Herondale name as well.
This would have also made the love triangle somewhat less pointless, because I believe we’d then also see Matthew stepping up to take care of Cordelia as a pregnant widow after James’ death, and later marrying her.
Finally, CC has never killed off a main character before so it would definitely have been a shocker. And it would explain why Tessa always recalls the TLH time period with great pain.

Okay, so looking back at the rest of the shadowhunter chronicles, someone has to kill their parent every three books (that aren’t story collections), e.g. Clary killing Valentine, Gabriel killing Benedict, Julian killing Andrew and Kieran killing the Unseelie King. Which means, that someone has to kill their parent in Chain of Thorns. And, obviously, the only way this makes sense in any is Grace/Jesse killing Tatiana.
Anyway maybe I’m going insane but I think it makes sense.

My Chain Of Thorns Theories:
- In Paris, Matthew and Cordelia will get closer and share a kiss
- Thomas will come out and kiss Alastair in a crowded room
- Because of necromancy Lucie should be punished and get her runes marks stripped off, but Matthew sacrifices himself for Lucie
- There will be a flashback and explain how Belial was able to impregnate Elizabeth Gray
- Grace or Belial will kill Tatiana
- The characters that will die are:
Gideon
Alastair
Henry
Tatiana
- Before Belial can be killed, Jem will save him, so Belial owes Jem a favor
- Tessa and Belial will meet
- Matthew will tell his secret to his family, including James and The Merry Thieves

Ok, I liked Chot. But this are a couple things that still need to be answered and that I thought would be handled during TLH:
Who wrote “I didn’t choose this life - 1904” in Ty’s Scholomance bedroom
Honestly thought it would be Grace’s punishment or Matthew.
Who got their marks erased by Brother Zachariah
Expected it to be Tatiana or Jesse since his marks are “dead”, but we never know.
Why does Lily Chen appreciate Cordelia Carstairs
I literally expected a meeting during ChoT or something impressive but I suppose they must have met each other at the Hell Ruelle.

So there's a distant Blackthorn line, right? AND CASSIE LOVES DISTANT LINES, RIGHT? SO THERE'S MORE BLACKTHORNS, RIGHT? but maybe Arthur's kids are the line, right, since they shifted to the US? BUT THEY ALWAYS GO TO THE LONDON INSTITUTE, RIGHT, AS IF THEY WERE FROM THERE? ahhhhhh more blackthorns in TWP yay. WAIT WAIT AND THE BOOKS NAME IS CHAIN OF THORNS. blackTHORNS (ok maybe this bit is an exaggeration but the rest isn't). WHAT ARE YOU SAYING CASSIE?

Terrible TLH Theory
Do not read if you haven’t read the SOBH for this week or recent snippets from Cassie on Twitter
You’ve been warned
So basically my thoughts go like this:
I don’t like how Tessa and Jem handled the situation of Kit with the gun, but Tessa had a visceral reaction to seeing that gun. She knows Kit would never hurt Mina, but her immediate reaction was to get in between that gun and her child. And the only thing that I can imagine would make her respond like that is if she saw it happen 100+ years ago.
But it was James pointing the gun at Lucie. And probably shooting Lucie.
I don’t think James did this of his own volition. There are two possibilities to the perpetrator: 1. Belial, for obvious reasons. James may have not been in control of his body, and it was used as either a coercion method or a way to hurt them. Or both.
My second thought it Malcolm. I think I read that Cassie said Lucie bringing Jesse back has brought things out of balance. Her consequence seems to be not being able to touch anyone now. I had a previous theory that Malcolm was going to try to force Lucie to help him raise Annabel and that’s why only her soul comes back to her body but her body doesn’t work. So then he thinks she’s tricked him and uses James to get revenge. Which would mean James get put under a spell again.
A third possible option is that he is aiming for someone else, but Lucie somehow becomes the target. Or maybe James shoots someone else. I’m not sure Tessa would react like that if it were an accident, and the parallel feels too evident. The event she’s recalling just feels malicious.
I hate that this is where my mind went. Let me know what y’all think

So, guys. I know we’re all wondering what’s going to happen in CoT, and that we’re wary about what CC might have done with Thomastair for good reasons. But, I’m actually hopeful?
You’re right, it’s foolish. And yet, I can’t help thinking that all the Thomastair snippets we’ve been given lead to the two of them sorting things out by CoT’s first half.
Of course, I don’t think all will be fine by then; rather, that Thomas and Alastair will have talked it out, and moved on to dealing with the Merry Thieves.
Why do I think that? Well, my brain’s been mulling over the snippets since they got out, which means you now have to hear my interpretation of them.
A warning: I won’t be posting spoilers about CoT’s leaked chapters, but there’ll be clear references for those who read them.
CoT was always starting in conflict considering how CoI ended, and that became even more evident when Thomas’s note - because it’s his note, let’s be honest - was released.
With its tone, the note mirrors Alastair’s to Thomas before the Townsend Musicale, back when the roles were reversed. It expresses care and longing; the need to be with the person you love.
Now Thomas’s in that position, and all the while having to figure out what’s happening between Alastair and Charles.
He’s with Kit when Alastair visits Charles, and he’s distracted by the ruckus upstairs. The scene is clearly from early CoT, as shown by the lack of communication between him and Alastair.
How do we go from them not communicating to sorting things out, though?
There must be at least one meeting - most likely accidental - in between the encounter at the Fairchilds’ and Thomas and Alastair’s eventual reconciliation. The snippets say so:
Tumblr media
This means that Thomas and Alastair meet exactly one day after Alastair visits Charles. It’s really too short of a time for them to have sorted things out, and Thomas clearly doesn’t know anything about Alastair and Charles yet.
After that, it’s all left open to interpretation, but Thomas and Alastair meet again - this time in a carriage - not much later. And maybe, it even happens because Alastair gets Thomas’s note.
Regardless of the reasons, the carriage meeting will presumably represent the turning point in Thomas and Alastair’s relationship.
They meet, share a blanket, talk. They, believe it or not, discuss Charles. And while bringing him up will likely be related to something he did, it’ll also help Thomas and Alastair sort things out.
They’ll be forced to face their feelings, and between that and their newfound proximity, they’ll kiss. It’s only natural, and there’s an art which confirms it.
There are good chances, then, that the carriage meeting will bring major changes to Thomas and Alastair’s relationship.
While making them kiss doesn’t necessarily have to mean anything, it shows that Alastair is faltering; that he’s rethinking his position.
Having talked to him, there won’t be much left for Thomas to do outside of clearing the air with the Merry Thieves - with Matthew.
The only other Thomastair snippets CC gave us either see Thomas and Alastair being happy - the mistletoe, hopeful Alastair - or them effectively dealing with Matthew.
And to be frank, getting him to support their relationship will probably be Thomas and Alastair’s greatest challenge in CoT’s second half.
They’ll be talking about it when Matthew asks Thomas if he loves Alastair, and he’ll accept it throughout the course of the book.
Maybe not immediately, but eventually:
Tumblr media
It’ll take a moment of great emotional or physical distress, but Matthew will come around.

The way "Exile from Light" can mean so many things and how my mind is just stuck on things like,
Lucie's name meaning light and Jesse's quote “you brought light into my lightless world” and to be exiled from it?
James losing his “constant star”?
The Herondale family probably losing their (light) daughter to the Clave's harsh judgement?
Matthew? 😭 (the next title tho)
