Kanera Week 2023, day 2: Family

The Consular AU!

Despite Palpatine's death, the war continues for an additional two years.

Rulers, Guilds, and warlords are not resigned to the loss of power that the Sith had granted them, forcing the Jedi to remain on the battlefield to rid the galaxy of their influence.

Eventually most of those who had supported the former chancellor's rise are found and arrested, including many members of the senate.

This calls for new elections and Cham Syndulla then becomes senator of Ryloth.

Waiting for him and his family when they arrive on Coruscant are his old friend Mace Windu along with his lineage, Depa Billaba and his Padawan Caleb Dume.

Young Hera is not at all impressed by the quiet, brooding 15-year-old boy.

Now that Ahsoka season 1 has ended, I've decided to finish watching Clone Wars an arc at the time--and started with the Ryloth arc for Ahsoka-related reasons. Got to "Liberty on Ryloth", and Mace is talking about working with Cham Syndulla at the beginning of the episode--and I'm thinking, "Dude you have no idea how your life is going to be connected to his in the future....." and I have some strong feelings about that.

Do you ever think how Hera kinda ended up resenting her dad cause he lost her mother in the war so to protect Hera he didn’t want her to be involved in the war but that just made her feel like he didn’t believe in her. But he couldn’t afford to lose Hera cause that’s the last thing he has of her mother so it’d be like losing her all over again….. I really hope that doesn’t happen with Hera and Jacen. Cause Hera knows what it is to be a Jedi & she can’t afford to lose another one. And to lose Jacen would be like to lose Kanan twice…. The last piece she has of him 💔

A sad thought I sometimes think about is when the Ghost crew was slowly drifting apart after Rebels, Hera would look back at her leaving her father and be like: this is what it feels like. At that time, Cham had already lost his wife to the Empire, and now his daughter was walking away as well, leaving him alone to carry on the fight in Ryloth. Similarly, Hera had lost Kanan, then Ezra, and then Sabine chose to stay on Lothal, Zeb went off to train recruits, while she and Chopper are all that's left. Of course, Hera had her own legitimate reasons: she wanted to fly and fight for a larger cause, and Cham has never believed in her. They've been going through this issue as early as Season 1 of Bad Batch. (Gobi trusts me to do my part, why can't you?) But at some point, in her darker moments, I think that Hera would sometimes believe that this was payback, and that she somehow deserved it. I imagine how she must have reacted to each loss of the crew, how empty the Ghost feels, how she can't bear to look at Sabine's paintings or clean up their old rooms, how she has to soldier through it all from fighting for the Rebellion to raising Jacen alone.

You can't change my mind when I say that Kanan meeting Cham Syndulla (Hera's father) is literally the funniest scene in the whole of Rebels

Its so perfect from Kanan cute stress out about meeting Cham (especially his facial expressions and telling Ezra to calm down even though Kanan's the one panicking) to blatantly misindentifying the crew

In response to this post by @s3ap0tat0 , I came up with a little drabble for these two.

Alena (meaning: protector) served as one of Cham Syndulla's freedom fighters. Cham personally tasked her to protect Eleni while posing as her personal handmaiden and nursery caregiver for Hera. She helped Hera repair Chopper, who quickly came to adore her.

Along with the Syndullas, Alena was imprisoned by Rampart for breaking Hera out of Imperial custody; she also was part of the group freed by the Bad Batch. After their escape from Ryloth, she continued guarding Hera and trained her in weapons and self-defense.

During her assignment with Hera and Eleni, Alena met CT 7551, "Inferno", a sergeant formerly under Captain Howzer's command. Before being sent offworld, Howzer managed to smuggle out a list of clone prisoners held by the Empire in the care of Sergeant Inferno. Eventually, he found Alena, who took him to Cham and Eleni's hideout.

There was only one bed

Through former ARC trooper Echo, the Syndullas arranged for the pair, posing as a honeymooners on Corusant, to pass the list to Captain Rex.

Inferno and Alena were married on Curosant by Senator Riyo Chuchi after their assignment was completed. The couple stayed on as part of Rex's resistance group. Inferno's intel directly led to Howzer and his men being rescued by Echo and Fireball, setting off a series of events that exposed the clone experiments at the secret Imperial base on Mount Tantiss.

Eventually, they settled on an undisclosed Outer Rim world near Cut and Suu Lawquane's homestead and had a large family.

hgrrrr Hera having almost always been surrounded by Jedi. her father being on first-name basis with multiple of them before Order 66. falling in love with someone who for so long tried not to be exactly what he was. someone she came to love as a son disappearing, presumed dead. Ezra gone. Kanan gone, even worse. Sabine has Ezra's lightsaber, uses it, tries her very best and Hera supports her training with Ahsoka because it helps, makes Sabine's own pain lighter. Sabine getting stabbed by another force-user, unable to use the force, still trying. Hera coming close to losing another member of her family.

Intellectually, Howzer knew what was meant by an open invitation. He was welcome at Cazne Tann whenever he liked: there would always be power for his speeder, or feed for his blurrg, and he was assured Hera could really use the Basic practice. This was usually just genial guff; the sort of pleasantry directed at any Republic liaison from a local dignitary who wanted UXO off their lawn.

But there were no Jedi on Ryloth, not anymore. And the Syndullas meant it.

They’d even sourced an armor stand for their atrium, though there was no dust to climb into Howzer’s sensor plates and, what’s more, he would never never think to arrive unannounced on their doorstep in anything less than his dress greys.

Cazne Tann was well far into the wastes. All the reasons Howzer might have for dropping by—when Cham was always in Lessu, always at their FOB—were too dishonorable to name.

Evening, Cham, I’m here to drink your wine and fuck your wife into the floor.

It wasn’t the kind of hospitality one repaid by dressing down. And because regs stipulated polished boots with greys, and because Howzer quite liked keeping the feeling in his fingers for other things, he avoided dressing up.

They all three enjoyed the pretense of an impromptu dinner invitation anyway. It thrilled: the possibility that everything and nothing might happen.

Cham especially seemed to relish the ritual: suggesting they get a head start on routing the next grid square, and wouldn’t it be more comfortable for Howzer to stay in the province? The land was zippered with waahahs, still wet with ancient rains. A quick dip on the way home to rinse off the day, and Madame Syndulla might not sniff to seat them at her table.

More often than not, dinner got postponed. Howzer would feast instead on the dewy wedge of a woman who called him nerre’ya and rocked him against her breast when nightmares shattered his sleep. She sang threnodies for men she’d never meet, and she felt like a mirage of peace he’d never reach.

“Eleni,” Cham would say, fingering the hem of her chiton up her gemstone legs, showing the ripeness of her mound beneath her belly. “I think our guest is thirsty.”

“And who would wonder at it, how you treat him?” Eleni’s rebukes were thin; beetle-winged barbs. She’d beckon Howzer closer as her thighs melted open. “You keep his handsome face dirtward all day.”

And when Howzer finally took her on his aching cock, Cham liked to watch. The freedom fighter would swell back on the sofa, dune-like, confident the wind would always blow his way again, running his finger up and down the long dagger of the cock nestled in his trousers.
