"Shit"
"Shit" Chris and I both looked at each other. He immediatly sat up and turned towards the window, attempting and push it open. My anxiety spiked as I heard a car door slam and footsteps. I turned back to Chris seeing him still struggling with the window.
"Chris, what are you doing?" I whispered harshly at him. He turned back towards me. "I'm trying to open it, Y/n" He said through gritted teeth. I closed my eyes shaking my head. This was not happen, right now. I pushed him out of the way.
"Move, let me try" I said pulling the bottom the window. "What did i say about pushing the drunk guy on the roof?" He whispered as I finally pushed the window open and climbed back into his room. I heard him climb in after me and shut the window. I walked over to his door, as fast and as quietly as possible before opening the door.
"Y/n" Chris said walking out into the hallway after me. I turned around stopping in front of the stairs. "What?" I whispered. He walked up to me and that's when Nick walked up the stairs, looking at us. We both turned towards him.
"What are you guys doing?" Nick said smiling and shaking is head. I looked over at Chris and he looked at me. His bit his lip and looked at Nick. I glanced back at Nick who was waiting for an answer. I opened my mouth. "Uh" I breathed.
"Chris is drunk" I said quickly, pushing him away from me. Chris stumbled over slightly. "Stop pushing me" He whined, rubbing his arm. Nick looked over at Chris raising his eyebrows, before shaking his head.
"Chris, go to bed" Nick said stepping past him. Chris glared at me. I shrugged before turning and following Nick. Nick turned around and looked at me. I smiled at him. He stopped trying to hide a smile.
"What?" He asked, biting the inside of his cheek. I smiled widely up at him. "Soooo" I sang. "How'd it go?" I asked pushing him with my shoulder. He attempted to look away and hide his smile. "Nick!" I protested. He held his hands up. "Okay fine! We kissed" He smiled at me.
I screamed wrapping him in a hug, that he attempted to push away from. "Nick oh my god! How was it?" I asked pulling back. He shook his head. "Nope that's all you're getting. Now go to bed" He said starting to walk away from me. I whined stomping like a little kid, making him turn around.
"Why do i get nothing?" I asked. He shook his head smiling before closing his door, leaving me in the hallway. I sighed turning and walking into my bedroom.
I rubbed my eyes and groaned before falling on my bed. I blinked up at the ceiling. I really hope Nick wasn't suspicious about Chris and I. The thought of Nick being angry with me scared me more than Chris not having feelings for me too.
Guilt filled my chest knowing that I told Chris what happened between me and my parents the night they kicked me out, before I told Nick. I swallowed my guilt. It was in the moment. I was vulernable and Chris was there, and he was so sweet and he called me pretty.
He said he liked me, but he was drunk. I didn't deserve drunk words. I didn't deserve drunk words ever. I never take what people say to me drunk to heart. I didn't with my parents and I'm not with Chris. No matter how much I wanted to.
I rolled over hugging my pillow.
No matter how much I tried to convince my brain to not take what Chris said tonight to heart, my heart screamed that it was true.
More importantly, what the hell was in that notebook?
-
I rambled through my belongings, getting tired of rewearing every single thing I brought. I've been here for almost a month now and my outfits were starting to hurt my eyes.
I leaned back holding the bridge of my nose knowing what that mean. I heard my door open and turned to see Nick walking in looking down at his phone. He looked up seeing my face.
"What's wrong?" He asked stopping. I sighed looking down at my bag. "I have to go by my mom's house" I said biting my lip feeling the anxiety rise in my chest. "What why?" He asked walking up to me. I looked up at him, throwing a shirt down back into the pile.
"I don't have any clothes" I sighed reaching up and rubbing my face. "No, I'll buy you new ones. You don't have to go back there" Nick shook his head beside me. I looked up at him biting my lip. I shook my head.
"No Nick, you've done enough for me these past few weeks. I need to go and do this" I stated nodding, knowing this was something I needed to do on my own. This was one thing I didn't need to drag Nick into. He sighed.
"Do you want me to come with you? I can get Matt and Chris to come too just incase-" He started to say but I cut him off. "No!" I quickly said holding my hands up. He furrowed his eyebrows at my response. My eyes went wide. I still hadn't come in contact with Chris since last night and I didn't want the first time to be in front of Nick and Matt coming with me to my mom's house. I just wanted to talk to him on my own terms alone to try to figure this shit out.
"Okay" Nick said leaning back. "Sorry-no I-just need to do this alone" I sighed looking away from him. I nodded and placed his hand on my shoulder soothingly. I turned and started to walk out, anxiety filling my chest.
I didn't want to come in contact with my mom at all.
-
The walk wasn't far. Like I said about 10 minutes, in the Boston cold might I add. I sighed as I wrapped my arms around myself, noting to get a coat while i'm there.
I breathed out, seeing my breath out in front of me as I made it to the house I grew up in. Filled with horrible memories. I closed my eyes looking down at my feet.
"You can do this" I whispered to myself as I looked back up at the house. Just one foot in front of the other. You got this. I stepped forward and stopped, swallowing. Feeling horrible goosebumps coming over my body.
God, why was I like this? Why was I such a baby?
I shook my head. Thinking of something, anything that could make me push through this. The first thing my mind went to was last night with Chris on the roof.
"I don't know if anyone has told you this lately Court, but you're enough"
"You're more than enough. You're like the smartest person I've ever met"
"and now the bravest."
I smiled down at my feet. I could do this. I was brave and I was strong. My thoughts were just my enemy trying to weight me down. It wasn't me, it was my mind telling me what I am.
If Chris of all people could sit there and tell the girl who's been burned her whole life, told she wan't enough constantly, and kicked out of her house that she was brave. It had to mean it was true.
I took a deep breath, letting the anxiety push out of my along with the warm air from my mouth. I nodded before walking up to the front door. I hovered my hand over the doornob, pausing.
"You are not my daughter. I'm leaving and you better hope I never come back"
"This was your fault y/n. Yours."
I closed my eyes trying to push away the memories.
"I know this sounds stupid, and maybe a little insensitive, but you telling me that really only makes me like you more"
I smiled before pushing open the door, hearing the creek in the process. I swallowed glancing around. There wasn't any noise. I sighed of relief, she must not be home. I walked up the stairs to my old bedroom, pushing the door open and stepping in.
It was weird. Like coming back from a vacation, everything was frozen in time. The calender hung on my wall still reading 'October' with the only plans written on almost every single day stating 'hang out with Nick'.
I smiled running my fingers over the old writing. I let out a breath as i turned looking at the room. I kind of missed it. My purple bedsheets and the books laid across the shelves.
I bit my lip. I wished things were different. I wish I had a easy normal life like the ones you read in novels, where a girls only purpose is to find a boy who loved her dearly. Who had parents that supported her dreams not laughed at them. I wished that my parents loved each other and I wish they didn't fight. I wished they would kiss my forehead at night and tell me bedtime stories instead of screaming at me telling me to go to my room.
I wish things were different.
But life is a bitch, not a genie. It doesn't grant wishes. It just gives you the life you have and forces you to deal with it. It wasn't fair.
I snapped out of my thoughts hearing a door slam downstairs. I turned towards the doorway, hearing footsteps coming up the stairs. I stayed frozen unable to move as I saw my mom walk through the door.
"What are you doing here?" She asked looking at me. I looked down at the books and then up at her. "I-" I stuttered. She shook her head. "Why are you here?" She asked louder. I let out a breath shaking my head.
"I-I don't know I just thought-" I said my body lighting on fire in fear. She shook her head sighing. "Y/n. I can't get ahold of your father I'm worried" She sighed looking down. She placed her hand on her head. "I'm worried about him" She sighed. I just looked at her with a blank stare. Is she serious? I shook my head smiling in anger.
"Are you kidding?" I spat looking at her. She looked up at me and held her hands up. "What?" She asked shaking her head. I chuckled looking down, shaking my head. Not believing this was my life and I had to deal with it. You play the hand you're dealt.
I stepped forward. "I've been gone a month. You haven't come looking for me once!" I yelled scoffing. She tightened her jaw. "I'm you're d-daughter!" I yelled shaking my head not believing her right now. She bit her lip.
"Y/n it's different. I know you can handle yourself out there-your father he's angry and he might do something stupid-" She shook her head. I held my hand up stopping her and closing my eyes.
"I can handle myself?" I asked looking at her. She stared at me. "I'm fucking 19, I'm-I'm a child. I could be sleeping on the damn streets for all you fucking care!" I screamed at her. She shook her head.
"Where have you been staying?" She asked crossing her arms. I bit my lip and shook my head. "No" I stated. "I'm not doing this" I said walking past her, but she grabbed my arm. I turned around looking at her.
"I still love you. You're my only daughter" She sighed looking at me. I shook my head, ripping my arm from her. "If this is love-" I scoffed. "Then I don't fucking want it" I said turning before stopping."And i'm not your daughter anymore" I shook my head before grabbing the door handle and slamming the door to my room.
I walked quickly down the steps and out of the house, not hearing her following me. I shook my head as I looked down at feet as I walked back towards the triplets house, without a coat, and without any more clothes.
-
I tried to turn off my mind as I walked up back to the famialir house, but I couldn't. I sighed as I walked up to the door before it being pulled open before me. I jumped back and looked up seeing Chris, wrapped up in a sweatshirt and a North Face coat.
He looked shocked to see me too. I just blinked up at him, not thinking I was going to have to see him right this second. He stepped forward out of the house and I moved to the side so he could step outside.
"Oh hey" He said looking down at me as I moved out of the way. "Hey" I breathed looking up at him. He let out a breath as my heart beat faster.
"Nick told me you were going to your mom's to get more stuff?" He said motioning to the door. I turned and looked before looking back up at him. I let out a breath and nodded.
"Yeah-Yeah that's where I just was" I said smiling and nodding. He looked down at me, noticing my lack of well....stuff. "Where's the stuff?" He asked smiling slightly. I let out a breath closing my eyes.
"I-uh" I cleared my throat. "I ran into my mom and I just-" I bit my lip shaking my head sighing not feeling like explaining to him right this second what went down. I looked up.
"Where are you going?" I asked. He turned towards the driveway. "I was gonna go meet Elmer at his place, he's working on some new stuff and I wanted to sit in and listen" He nodded. I nodded back.
"Sound fun" I breathed. Why was this so painful? He nodded slightly smiling before turning and starting to walk away. I sighed putting my hand against my face.
I had to talk to him one way or another. We had to address last night, it's hanging over my head like a knife. I swallowed turning back to him.
"Wait, Chris" I said walking up to him. He turned to the sound of his name being called. He raised his eyebrows as I walked up in front of him. I sighed biting my lip.
"Can we talk?" I asked softly looking at his eyes. He furrowed his eyebrows and slid his hands into the pockets of his jacket. "About what?" He shook his head. I looked to the side and then back at him.
"About last night?" I questioned his confusion. His face dropped slightly before regaining itself. He looked to the side and shrugged. "What about it?" He asked glancing down at me. I just looked at him.
"What about it?" I said looking up at him in confusion. He just stared down at me. "I was drunk, I don't remember any of it. I don't even remember seeing you last night" He shook his head shrugging.
My heart stopped beating.
I just stared up at him, wondering if I heard him correctly. My lips slightly parted as I looked up at him. He bit his lip as he just looked at me.
"A-Any of it? You don't remember any of it?" I questioned shaking my head looking for any sign in his eyes that he remembered. He pursed his lips and shook his head looking off into the distance.
I felt my chest clench, physically spikes shooting through my chest from his words. I told him about my parents. He told me he liked me. He called me brave. He almost kissed me.
I swallowed the lump in my throat and looked to the side, feeling tears brim at my eyes. Tears. I nodded not looking at him and not saying anything else before turning on my feet and walking quickly towards the door and pushing it open, feeling the tears start to come out of my eyes uncontrollably.
My parents kicked me out. They told me I wasn't their daughter. My dad fucking left and Chris Sturniolo was the one that broke me.
*lets out a breath* i have no words

champange problems
neuvillette x gn!reader
hurt/no comfort, they/them pronouns, light cursing
this is slightly based off of the song champagne problems by taylor swift🫶🏼
might consider a pt. 2 if people are interested:)
Tumblr media
The Opera Epiclese was beautifully decorated from top to bottom. Assortments of Rainbow Roses adorned the hallways, Lumidose Bells hung like vines from the pillars. Stunning satin and silk tapestries dressed the walls in different shades of blue and purple.
Everyone there could tell something was going to happen, though no one knew what.
When the people of Fontaine received their invitations to the event, it did not state the reasoning for it. It was presented as a formal ball. People were expected to dress and act appropriately, and it was not a place for children.
As the guests arrived, they could see Chief Justice Neuvillette and the Hydro Archon Furina were sitting in the front row of the courthouse. They were chatting, glancing out at the crowd periodically, as if looking for someone.
Then you walked in.
Neuvillette arose from his seat and walked down to greet you. You smiled at your boyfriend, giving him a gentle kiss on the cheek.
“I’m so glad you could make it,” He said, grasping your hand as he brought you toward the seats he and Furina were sat in.
“I’m glad I could make it too! Everything here looks absolutely gorgeous,” You replied, following him.
Furina greeted you with a smile and a wave before moving from her seat to somewhere backstage.
“So what is this grand party for, hmm?”.
“Oh you’ll see soon enough my love,” He kissed your hand. “Just enjoy the atmosphere and the music. The Melusines should come around soon with refreshments, and the band is about to play.”
You nodded, leaning back into your chair and taking a deep breath. It was nice to have a moment to relax and enjoy yourself. You very rarely got that anymore thanks to your constant traveling, but the work was so fulfilling.
Just as Neuvillette said, the Melusines came out carrying trays of various drinks. One of them stopped in front of you two, two glasses of sparkling champagne was presented. “Just as you requested, Monsieur!” She said excitedly.
Neuvillette grabbed both the glasses, handing one over to you, “Thank you very much,” He smiled as she skipped away.
“This is different from the other drinks,” You gave him a smirk. “Was this requested specifically for me?” You had always been a fan of champagne, more than wine which tended to be the people’s preferred drink of choice.
“How could we throw a party without having everything my beautiful partner desires?” He kissed your temple with a gentle smile on his face.
You returned his smile and sipped the drink, “You also opted for champagne I see.”
“Ahh, I figured I could try to enjoy your favorite drink for a change.”
Neuvillette had never cared for champagne, he made that abundantly clear when you two began dating, but when he saw your face light up at the thought of him sharing your drink of choice, he knew it would all be worth it.
The two of you chatted for a while, catching up on how things have been on both your ends. You had recently returned from a trip to Inazuma, a country you had longed to visit for a while. You were given a commission there, and left about a month ago. You had only returned the day prior.
Neuvillette recounted many trials to you, one in particular standing out. He talked about Fatui Harbinger, Childe, a man you had met once before in Liyue when you were there for the Rite of Descension.
“Ahh I know Childe,” You commented. “We crossed paths briefly a few months ago. He almost sank the entirety of Liyue Harbor.”
“Oh?” Neuvillette raised his brow. “And how have I not heard about this?”
You giggled, “I forgot to be honest. It was so insignificant for me at the time. I left the Harbor only a few hours before to visit some of the ruins. Who would have thought that someone would try to wipe out the nation’s biggest city?”
Neuvillette chuckled, his eyes sparkling, “You tell me the most fascinating stories. I hope someday I can give you a memory as fun and beautiful as the ones you make.”
You felt your face heat up, “You’re such a flirt, Neuvillette.”
“Only for you darling.”
The band on stage began their show, the audience around them silencing. You glanced over and realized Furina had not returned to her seat.
Neuvillette placed his glass aside and rose from his seat. He planted a kiss on the top of your head, “Excuse me a moment.”
“But the music just started. You’ll miss it.”
“No worries dear, I’ll be back,” He took his leave, walking out the back doors.
You sighed, focusing your attention on the orchestral display in front of you. Just as you expected, the music was beautiful, as was everything else in the Opera Epliclese. If only you knew what the true reasoning behind this was.
Moments passed and both Neuvillette and Furina had yet to return. You contemplated searching for them both, but stopped when Furina walked up on stage.
“Hello ladies and gentlemen! It is quite the honor to be here tonight as we have such a lovely occasion to be celebrating!”
Whispers and murmurs flooded over the crowd. What could they possibly be trying to celebrate?
“Now, I know you all must be very confused. ‘Oh great Hydro Archon Focalors.’” You rolled your eyes. “What could we possibly be celebrating!’ I can hear your gears turning, and I can promise you this is an occasion none shall forget!”
From stage left, Neuvillette walked on. He almost looked nervous as he approached the front of the stage. Furina handed him the microphone and winked before hopping off to the side.
“Umm,” He spoke softly. “This isn’t really quite my thing, speaking about emotions and feelings and such, especially in front of a crowded room like this, but I believe this is something that should be shared,” His throat bobbed, his eyes flicking across the audience. “Emotions are not, and never have been, my strong suit. They are complicated, hard to understand, and feeling them is confusing,” He said. “But there is one person who has made these emotions less confusing. When I am around them, I don’t need to try to understand what I’m feeling.”
You knew instantly he was talking about you. The two of you had discussed his inability to comprehend human emotions a few times. You had helped him understand his initial feelings towards you, helped him learn to accept his love and care for you. All of these things he has accomplished was through your help, so he says.
His eyes locked with yours, and he gestured for you to join him on the stage. Hesitantly, you stood and made your way to him. The spotlight was bright and hot, making you sweat almost instantly.
Neuvillette took your hand in his, “I can’t think of anyone I would rather spend my life with.”
Your eyes widened. He was going to propose
He got down onto one knee, pulling out a velvet blue box. He opened it, and the ring inside was stunning. A sparkling blue crystal with a silver band. “My love, will you marry me?”
All eyes were on you at that moment as the audience eagerly awaited your response. You were at a loss for words. You loved Neuvillette, you truly did, but marriage? The thought had never crossed your mind, nor were you even truly ready to get married. You had so many more adventures to go on, so much more to see and do. Marriage would only tie you down and prevent you from experiencing those things.
Your heart throbbed, an ache filling you that you had never felt before. You stepped away from him, shaking your head with tears in your eyes, “I’m sorry, Neuvillette,” You watched his face drop. “But I can’t accept,” As you finished the sentence you rushed off of the stage and out of the room.
Neuvillette watched you leave, the ring box slipping from his hand, and landing onto the stage with a thud. The crowd began to whisper, a mix of emotion swirling throughout the room.
Furina, despite her love for the drama, immediately jumped in at seeing the distress on Neuvillette’s face, “Alright everyone, I believe that is all for this evening. Feel free to get some refreshments outside! Guards, if you could escort our guests out.”
One by one, each person began to leave until the only people inside were Furina and Neuvillette.
She glanced down at him, he hadn’t moved a single inch. His eyes were glued to the floor as he replayed the event in his head, over and over again. You said no.
“Neuvillette?” Furina approached him, gently tapping his shoulder. “Are you okay?”
He snapped out of his trance, picking his head up, “I- I do not know.”
“Well, why don’t we get you back home, yeah?”
The two left in silence, Furina remaining close beside him. People watched the two leave the Opera Epiclese and they wouldn’t stop talking. This news would spread like wildfire, Neuvillette would become the talk of Fontaine.
Outside it was downpouring. The rain was the worst it had been in a very long time. Furina knew why.
“Even the weather is matching the mood,” Someone said from afar, noticing the Archon and Chief Justice.
“What a shame,” Another person spoke. “Losing out on a good lover such as the Monsieur.”
“They even rejected him in front of a crowd. The embarrassment he must feel… How cruel.”
“I do hope he finds someone better. He deserves someone less… fucked in the head.”
Each voice he heard was a nasty reminder, each word spoken made his heart twist and ache in an uncomfortable way. He tried to drown it out, but it was almost impossible.
“Thank you, Lady Furina,” He pulled away from her. “But I think I’ll go alone.”
“A-Are you sure?” She was hesitant to leave him alone in such a state.
“Quite sure. I’ll see you soon,” He left without another word.
Neuvillette decided to spend the rest of his evening alone, sulking in his hurt, wondering if maybe he could have done something to make you stay.

CHAMPANGE PROBLEMS!
kazbrekker x fem!reader
summary: it appears taylor swift wrote champagne problems for you and kaz brekker.
story: grishaverse masterlist
rory’s voice mail 🎧: I guess I'm the queen of angst sjsjsjjs. either way I hope you enjoy, love you say it back <3
WARNING ANGST AHEAD (AND SOME CURSING)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You walk into his office, the door creaking softly as his eyes dart towards the door. "just me" you said softly walking into the room, bottle of dom perigon in hand and the door closing behind you. Isolating both of you from the rest of the world.
Kaz shifts in his seat as you walk towards his table and place the bottle on it. He feels the promise ring in his pocket move as he gulps nervously, ofcourse back then you didn't see it. Instead you saw what was obvious, his eyebrows raised in amusement as he questioned where you snatched it from. you didn't see what he was hiding when you shrugged and sat down, instead focusing on the playful banter that was always there.
He watched you laugh as you try to tell him about a funny joke you heard, and he watched you get upset over jesper's behaviour that week. He watched intently even when a silence fell between you both.
You never expected yourself to fall inlove with kaz brekker, but in truth you didn't even have to try. It's a shame you convinced yourself he never felt the same when you accepted nikolai's proposal and decided to go back to the little palace. it's a shame you denied yourself of how he felt when the barrel's skeptics judged you both for your champagne problems, or how you denied yourself of how he felt when you sat alone in that office that night. It was all a shame.
You fought with him that night, you told him you loved him accidentally. you told him how you were leaving anyways as he washed his hands, gloves out of reach. You begged him silently to tell you to stay, just once. But instead your gaze softened when he told you to get out. You planned a speech, but he left you speechless. you don't know what you expected, but you felt him slip out of grasp.
You asked him to tell you to stay, but when he asked you why he should, you couldn't give him a reason. You watched him turn his back on you, instead opening the door for you. You watched as the ring fell out of his pocket, gold vines that could have wrapped around your fingers, his midas touch that made your problems feel heavier than they once were.
You left in a carriage that night, basking in the weight of your loss and the depressing glow of the full moon above your head. The same moon your once evergreen group of friends looked upon together. You regretted every decision you made to leave in silence as you walked through the decorated gates of the little palace.
Kaz sat in his office as he spun the ring around on his desk. He didn't pick it up when it fell, instead for the first time he prayed to the saints that he'd never find it again. He wasn't ready to open up so he watched you leave his life, just as he watched everyone else he loved do the same. He heard the barrel talk about how she would have made a lovely bride if she wasn't fucked in the head, Once a dreg found the ring and pieced it together after he got defensive.
Today, you stood at the back of the chappel as the nichevo'ya tore up everyone in it's path. You ran alongside jesper, inej, and kaz once again in fear of your lives. The crown once on your head abandoned long back. You watched in silence as you saw that ring on inej's finger. It suited her better.
You stood behind a wall controling a broken sob as you heard kaz ask inej to stay in ketterdam for him. You controlled it when she walked out anyways, when if it was you; you would have stayed for him. And all of a sudden you went back to that night, when neither of you wished to be vulnerable first and ruined it all instead. You walked out remembering the way he held her to stop her from leaving. You walked out feeling the weight of your champange problems return once again.
Your glass was heart and he dropped it.
But finally, you walked out of the barrel life once and for all as you realise he didn't want you to stay. Ofcourse, you failed to realise that he saw you behind that wall. He wished you were her so he could yell at you and cry and beg on his knees to make you stay. But he stayed quiet because you looked happier with nikolai. You both stayed quiet for each other; maybe that was your biggest mistake.

Dirty Hot Pogue Pt. 6
Tumblr media
Warnings: threats, violence, oral, mild smut, insecurities, jealousy.
Series ML
You can't help your satisfied smirk as you bring the champagne flute to your lips, watching as the vein in Bryce's forehead threatens to burst. Both your parents seemed displeased as well but you could avoid them tonight if you tried.
You feel a familiar set of eyes on you and you glance over, seeing JJ's knowing smirk as he handed out drinks. It made you blush as you downed the last of your drink.
You'd just had your grand entrance and Bryce's smile fell as soon as he saw the strapless blue dress you'd changed into at the last minute. Along with the heels JJ had endlessly fucked you in. You could tell Bryce wanted to object but it was too late. You were already here and everyone had already seen the two of you. Now his precious pictures were ruined and you felt oddly satisfied by that. You were tired of pretending to please everyone else. It was getting harder and harder to force a smile at these events. Not when you knew what waited for you at the beach house.
You stayed by Bryce's side for as long as you could take it. He could easily kiss the ass of any middle aged person here but you could see the tension he carried in his shoulders or how his hand dug into your waist whenever you tried to put distance between the two of you. Finally, you rip out of his hold and sit down at your assigned table, downing another flute of champange as Bryce and his goons fill the rest of the seats.
"We need to talk about your attitude." Bryce leans over, his arm hanging onto the back of your chair as he hisses in your ear.
"Back off or I'll cause a scene." You growl back, leaning away from him as you fight to remain calm.
"You've been causing a scene all night. First this fucking dress and now acting like it disgusts you to be touched by me. What's your problem?"
"Maybe you should fuck her into place." One of his friends chuckles from across the table. You shoot him a shitty look but Bryce ignores the comment, his eyes wide as he stays too close.
"Drinks?" You fight the overwhelming urge to panic as JJ appears at your table. Your heart starts beating uncontrollably with him so close. Bryce would hurt him. Whether it be physical or publicly.
"No, we're fine. Thank you." You force out, not looking at him but Bryce leans away, straightening in his seat as he eyes JJ. You could feel the angry vibe radiating off him. He'd seen what was happening with Bryce and was intervening.
"You could clear off this fucking table. Think a Pogue could manage that?" Another of Bryce's goons snaps. God, why did he come over here?
"Sure." JJ clips, rounding the table and picking up the empty glasses. It's not until he's made it back around that Bryce's foot shoots out, tripping JJ and causing him to drop the whole tray of glasses onto the floor. You visibly jerk, resisting the urge to go to him. Bryce notices, glaring at you as JJ and another waiter pick up the broken pieces of glass.
"Get us some more drinks after you clean that up, Pogue." Bryce calls over his shoulder, not even looking at JJ.
"Pogues are people too." Your eyes widen at the sound of Kiarra's voice behind you. JJ stands, the broken glass and tray taken by the other waiter.
"Kie, let it go." JJ warns, his hands balled into tight fists at his sides. Kiarra ignores him.
"Did you know that, Bryce? That no one is beneath you. That you don't own anybody."
"Walk away, Pogue Slut. Did you make it through the whole group yet or you looking for some Kook dick to fill your time?" Kiarra and JJ step forward at the same time as you jump to your feet, throwing a full glass of water in Bryce's face.
"Enough." You hiss, turning and disappearing inside before anyone can think. You're almost to the locker rooms when a firm hand grabs your wrist, yanking you to a stop.
"You little bitch. You humiliate me then run?" Bryce snarls, yanking you into a private family restroom with a locking door, away from everyone else. You resist, fear choking you as you claw at his tight grip trying to plant your heels.
"Bryce! You're hurting me!" You cry just as the door is shoved back open and you barely catch a glimpse of a black uniform and blonde hair before Bryce is shoved away from you. JJ grabs Bryce by his suit collar before delivering a brutal blow to his gut with his knee. Bryce doubles over, gasping in pain before JJ forces him to his knees next to the toilet. You'd never seen JJ like this. He was feral and enraged.
"You enjoy hurting women? I'll show you what happens to bitches like you on The Cut." JJ snarls before shoving Bryce's face into the toilet and flushing. You stand there frozen, in fear or shock, you weren't sure. JJ pulls Bryce's head out of the bowl, letting his couch and sputter before doing it again.
"Stop! JJ, stop!" You sob, not realizing you're crying until someone else shoves past you and yanks JJ's arm back. You catch a glimpse of dark curly hair and a red dress, your body bristles as Kiarra shouts at JJ, pulling him away from Bryce.
"Stop it. Stop. Pull yourself together. Do you want to go to jail?" You hear Kiarra snap at him. His face hardens as he watches Bryce cough and choke on the bathroom floor. You can't move or look away from the terrifying look on his face. He'd almost killed Bryce for touching you.
"Get off me." JJ jerks his arm from Kiarra, his darkened eyes finding yours. His dark gaze scans over you before he marches out with Kiarra on his heels. You look to Bryce, your anger finally trumping your fear. You don't know what would've happened if JJ hadn't interveined. His methods were brutal but necessary.
"It's him, isn't it?" Bryce asks between coughs, his face bright red from his spot on the floor. You try to school your expression, not wanting to give Bryce any ammunition. "He's the one you're fucking." Bryce starts to laugh, leaning his head against the tile wall.
"This is over Bryce." You fight to keep your voice even and calm despite the sudden relief you feel of being rid of him.
"This--," Bryce gestures between the two of you then to the door where JJ left, "--is far from over. I'm going to ruin you both. You'll be working for tips on the Cut by the time I'm done with you." You normally wouldn't take anything Bryce says seriously but you know his pride is wounded and he's been humiliated multiple times tonight by you and JJ. That sadistic smirk on his face only proved that he would be out for blood.
"We're done, Bryce. Don't act like this was anything more than to help your social standing. I know you've been fucking that teacher, who's married, and I know about your house keeper. You're not innocent in this so don't threaten me." Bryce continues to smile, staring up at the ceiling with his head rested against the wall.
"And you think he's so perfect? The only difference between us is that I have money and he doesn't. And what about his other little girl friend? You haven't heard the rumors about Kiarra making her way through the group?" Bryce grins, finally meeting your eyes as he confirms all your suspicions. Bryce knew everything about everybody. Why would he lie? Your stomach knots and all the alcohol you'd consumed threatens to come back up. You step back, masking your hurt with a look of utter disgust.
"Go fuck yourself." You turn away, throwing the door open just as his laugh meets your ears. JJ and Kiarra were no where in sight and you were thankful. You might actually throw up if you saw them together right now. You went in the opposite direction of the party and stumbled to the parking lot. It's not until you're alone in the dark that you realize you'd left your phone and clutch on the table back at the party. You groan loudly, throwing your head back. You'd also rode with your parents so you couldn't exactly ask them to take you home.
"Having problems, princess?" You turn towards the voice, relieved that it didn't belong to JJ or Bryce.
"I need a favor." You say, not caring in this particular moment about owing Rafe Cameron anything.
"Name it."
Tumblr media
You don't go to the beach house that night. Or the next several. It's not until your parents undying bickering over Bryce gets to be too much that you finally go there to hide. You didn't want to see JJ. You didn't want to face anything that had happened. Rumor was already spreading that you were cheating on Bryce with a Pogue and you just wanted to hide. You didn't want the added stress that came with JJ and Kiarra. You couldn't shake the image from your head of the way she had looked at him. It shouldn't mean anything but it did.
It's still early in the day when you show up, kicking your sandals off on the porch and immediately going inside to make some eggs. You round the corner to reach the open kitchen when you stop abruptly, seeing his shirtless back as he fries something on the stove. You debated running but he'd catch you and you were exhausted. Physically and mentally. You were torn between wanting to fight him and wanting him to hold you. Your life had completely fallen apart in the matter of a few days. It's not until he turns around that you gasp, taking in his beaten and bruised face as he scrapes scrambled eggs onto a plate. His eyes meet yours and you fight back tears, everything else seeming to dissolve.
"What happened?" You choke, inching closer to the counter but staying opposite of him.
"Bryce's buddies jumped me." JJ says calmly, adding salt and pepper to his eggs before taking a biteful. He points to a bruise you hadn't noticed on his ribs and your heart breaks further. "This one is from my dad." His dad was abusive?
"I'm so sorry." Your hands shake as you round the island, slowly coming to stand next to him. He was only in his shorts so he must've still been sleeping here.
"Don't be sorry. Just be with me. No more hiding." JJ offers you a bite of the eggs and you happily accept. You eat together in silence, letting him feed you as you simply just stand next to each other. It's not until the kitchen has been cleaned that he finally turns to face you, his arms crossed over his broad chest.
"So what did Bryce say?" You peer up at him under your lashes, secretly hating how well he could read you.
"He made threats." You say softly, leaning against the opposite counter. Your stomach was in a knot. You didn't know how you'd handle this once it all came out.
"And?"
"And.. he said that Kiarra has been with you and all your friends." JJ sighs, shaking his head and shooting an arrow through your already fragile heart.
"It's not like that." JJ says softly, catching your arm as you turn to leave. You didn't want to hear it. The thought of him with her made you sick to your stomach. "Listen to me." JJ bites out, pinning you against the counter as you fight against him.
"Stop, I don't want to hear it." Tears fill your eyes and he growls, spinning you around and forcing you to bend over the counter. "What are you doing?" You snap, just as he pushes down on your back so your chest meets the cold counter top.
"Distracting you. You need to get out of your fucking head." JJ's angry growl meets you ears in time for you to gasp as he yanks your shorts down your legs and unties your bikini bottoms before shoving his face between your cheeks and lapping up your cunt like a starved man. A zap of pleasure shoots through your body as you reach up on your toes, panting with need. You wanted to get away from the pleasures of his mouth while also begging him to never stop.
“JJ, oh god, oh god.” His skilled fingers enter you from behind, taking you to a swift mind blowing orgasm that has your knees giving out. You swear you’ll hit the floor but JJ scoops you up, taking you over to the couch before coming down on top of you.
“Wait, we’ll make a mess.” You hiss, worried your parents might show up one day and see a mysterious stain on the fabric.
“That’s a job well down.” JJ’s clothes hit the flower before he kneels on the couch, slapping his cock against your clit. You wanted him more than anything. You were buzzing with anticipation but you stop him at the last second with a hand to his chest, that question still at the back of your mind.
“Did you ever sleep with Kiara?” You blurt it out before you can change your mind. His eyes widen in surprise for a moment but the pause tells you what you didn’t really want to know.
“Y/N—.”
“Why didnt you work out? I mean you’re still friends right?” The emotion chokes you as you fight the urge to cry over Bryce being right.
“Y/N please—.” You pull your body away from his, putting distance between you now that the moment was thoroughly ruined.
“Answer me.” You snap, anger getting the best of you now.
“Because we’re too different in some ways.” JJ sighs, sitting down on the couch and looking at you with sad eyes. “In my mind she’ll always be a.. Kook and I’ll always be a Pogue. She’ll never understand me or what it’s like to have nothing.” You suck in a breath and his head hangs, what needed to happen hanging between the two of you like dead weight.
You get to your feet to find your clothes, ignoring as he calls your name. When JJ grabs you again he’s no longer naked but he has tears in his eyes. Tears you hated and didn’t want to see or you’d crumble.
“Please, it was so long ago and we were young. It was weird for us. We never dated.” JJ attempts to pull you against him as you try to leave but you slap his hands away, taking a moment to realize this was your house and you didn’t have to leave. You sit your stuff back down, putting your walls back up as you put space between your bodies.
“Talk to me.”
“I want you to leave and I don’t ever want to see you again.” Hurt flashes across his face for a moment before his expression hardens, his head shaking like he doesn’t believe you.
“No.”
You move to turn away from him, your anger boiling over but he pulls you back, his own anger simmering on the surface.
“Don’t shut me out because two can play that game and you’ll find out that I play it better. I don’t want Kie, I want you.”
Tears fill your eyes as you look back at him, your heart shattering in your chest. Maybe you and Kiara had something in common after all. You were both in love with a Pogue while having Kook status. Sure she slummed it with the Pogues but you never lose your Kook title. Neither of you would ever “understand” him. You were too different.
You lick your lips as you square off with him, hoping that your words will drive your point home.
“I don’t want to see you anymore. We’re just too different.”
