I got this book a while ago and went back to reading it after months of burnout and being busy. Usually I don’t finish chapter books after reading the first few pages, but after going back to this I want to read more. It’s a very loving, tender, relatable, and perceptive book that I highly recommend. The author written this book with love. For a while now, I’ve been on a journey discovering myself and this book has really helped me in embracing my sensitivity more and I think others should do the same 💗🫶🏾

Hey guys :))
This is the first chapter of a Dean Winchester fanfic I’m working on and possibly publishing to wattpad so this is a test run on it to see if it does well!
~Sweetheart~(Dean WinchesterxFem!Reader).
Tumblr media
1|Bait
You woke up as the light gently cascaded over your face with warmth
Slowly blinking you opened your eyes to the sound of Bobby in the kitchen
You sat up stretching your arms out to either side of your torso
Throwing the blanket off of your body you drug yourself from the bed trying to wake yourself up after your night of tossing and turning
You slowly trudged to the bathroom to splash water on yourself to aid your tired eyes
Once you were done in the bathroom you walked back to your room to put on halfway decent clothes before making an appearance downstairs
10 minutes later…
You made your way down the stairs to head to the kitchen
Once there you saw Bobby standing by the stove
“Morning”
You say as you open the fridge pulling out a water bottle
“Morning”
He says back as he takes the pan he has to the two plates on the counter
“What’s on the menu today chef”
You say as you stare at the apron around his waist
“Oh, ha ha”
He says rolling his eyes
Taking off the apron and picking up the two plates he carries them to where you sat
He sets the plate in front of you and takes his own seat
“Ooo”
You say as you stare at the food
“Looks almost as good as me”
You say picking up your fork and taking a bite with a smile
He sighs as he lets out a small laugh
“You’re something special”
He says taking a bite of his own food
“I can’t help it that i'm just awesome”
You say looking out the window as he shook his head with a smile
“What’s on the agenda for today?”
You say looking back at him
“The winchester boys are on their way with questions”
He says with a grumble
“Why the grumble grandpa?”
You say finishing your food
“Nothing”
He says under his breath
“Oh come on you are such a sucky liar”
You say taking his empty plate to the kitchen sink
He sighs at your statement
“Well if you must know”
He starts as he glares at you
“I’m not fond of those boys being around you.”
He says as he gets up from the table
You turn to look at him from the sink
“What? Are you worried I'm gonna end up a baby momma to one of them?”
you say sarcastically as you shake your head
He narrows his eyes at you
“I wouldn’t be surprised considering how much they get around”
He says walking out of the kitchen
You turn and follow after him
“Bobby, I don't even like people around me. I’m not gonna go sleep with anyone anytime soon”
You say as you both walk into his study
“Besides, Dean hates me”
You say shrugging
You were kinda sad knowing how much he despised you
Him and his brother had been to the house before and for some reason Dean just hated you
Sam liked you being around as a voice of reason but maybe you having previously sided with his brother is what made his blood boil having you around
“I don’t care, I still don’t like it”
You smile at his concern as you both go through a couple books searching for the answers the boys were looking for as you waited for them to finally arrive
2 hours later…
You lay on your back in the middle of the study floor reading a book as bobby read at his desk
You turned your head when you heard Dean’s car outside
You heard the door open as you continued reading
“No, Sam don’t be stupid the monopoly man never had a monocle”
You hear Dean say as their voices approach the room you’re in
The boys walk in as both of their eyes fix on you laying on the floor
Dean smiles at the sight as he looks at Bobby and back at you
“What is this an open invitation?”
He says as he looks you up and down
Sam reaches his hand up and slaps the back of his head
“Hey, Y\n”
Sam says as he flashes a smile and walks toward Bobby who is glaring daggers into Dean
“So, did you figure out what this thing is?”
Sam says as Dean lingers on your frame a little too long
“Dude, I’m gonna need you to pay me if you want to see more”
You say forcing him to avert his gaze
You smile at yourself as you close your book and sit up
“I did my best and I think this is it”
Bobby says turning the book towards the boys
They all conversed about the monster and what not while you listened intently
“So, we need bait?”
Sam said looking to Dean
“Well obviously we aren't up to its standards”
Dean says with a scoff
“True”
Sam said as he sunk deep into thought
“I’ll do it”
You said as they all turned around
You see Bobby open his mouth to protest
“Are you crazy?”
Dean says before Bobby even says a word
“No”
He says shaking his head looking to Sam for reassurance
“Okay, first of all stop talking”
You say to Dean as he puts his hands on his hips
“Second of all, it’s a good idea. I’m its “type” or whatever”
You say raising both eyebrows
“Absolutely not”
Bobby says shaking his head
You step between the boys and face Bobby
“Come on, I’ll be fine and besides I need to get out of the house”
You said pleading with your father figure
“No, I don’t want a repeat of that night”
He says through gritted teeth as he starts to walk away
Sam and Dean look at eachother confused
“They would never do that and besides you can kill them if I get hurt”
“Excuse me?”
Dean says looking at Sam once more
Bobby turned to face you
“Please”
You said looking into his eyes
He sighed as he looked to the floor contemplating the suggestion
“Fine”
He said
You let out a shaky breath
“Wait a second”
Dean says as Bobby looked over at him
“Don’t we get a say in this?”
He says looking to Sam who looks to be on board
“I’m going with you, Dean, you’ll live”
You said as he grumbled under his breath
“I mean, it’s not a bad idea, and it’s our best bet so”
Said Sam as he shrugged
“Whatever”
Dean said heading towards the door
As soon as it slammed you turned to Sam smiling
“Let’s get it”
10 minutes later
Walking over to hug Bobby you told him bye and you would be back
“Love you”
You said happily as you walked out the door with a bag
As you stepped out of earshot Bobby pulled Sam back
“You watch her and you Watch her close, if she gets hurt it’s on you”
He says as Sam looks around nervously
Sam nodded and turned to walk out the door
“And don’t let your horny brother touch her or i’ll kill him”
He said with a stoic expression
Sam nodded again but more nervous than before
“Will do”
Sam said as he walked out the door and climbed into the passenger seat of the impala
“This is gonna be a long ride”
Dean said, shaking his head.

Thank you so much for answering all of our questions! I'm struggling to conceptualize the difference between an early reader, a chapter book, and middle grade? (Do they ever call middle grade books chapter books?) Thanks!
If I wrote a book and was having a hard time determining if it fit into early reader or chapter book, is that something an agent can help me figure out where it best fit?
While there is a little bit of crossover between these categories -- a LITTLE bit -- ie, a handful of books that one might argue COULD be considered early readers/chapter books, or chapter books/young MG -- the reality is, for the most part, these categories each have pretty distinct parameters.
Therefore, I'm going to be brutally honest: If you can't tell the difference between these categories, you have not read enough children's books to be writing them. Go to the bookstore or library and get to reading!
But before you go, here, I made you a cheat sheet -- hey, don't make fun of it, "graphic design is my passion" lol :D
(ETA: Oh and yes - sometimes random people -- parents, teachers, kids -- do call anything with chapters a chapter book. In publishing terms, though, chapter book is its own distinct category, and a middle grade book would never be called a chapter book.)
(ETA AGAIN: Sure, your agent can certainly help you decide at which audience to aim your book, like for example, suggesting that an early reader might sell better as a chapter book, or vice versa -- but it would def help if you knew the difference first and had a goal in mind, yanno?)

I’m looking for beta readers!
I mentioned this before, but I’m going to make a separate post to see if I get any interest. If you aren’t interested I totally get it and that’s fine but please reblog this if you can so more people see it!
I usually write and talk about adult SFF, but this is not that. This is a low stakes realistic middle grade book about a disabled autistic girl making a new friend and learning to accept her needs. It’s only about 21k words and since I have a free account on betabooks, I’m looking for 3 people to read it and give feedback on plot coherency and interest level, mostly. It’s already been professionally edited and shouldn’t need much grammar work. I would also appreciate title suggestions—the working title is “Fae and Brownie,” but I’d like something more memorable.
Disclaimers: (1) it is in first person present tense (I know some people don’t like that) and (2) it is purposely exposition heavy to emphasize how she has to manually process concepts that are automatic for others. The only possible tw is “polite,” child-understandable levels of transphobia against her parent as part of the b-plot. Also, this is a story about disability pride—the point has nothing to do with her learning to behave or “be good.” (A disclaimer I now include after a shocking comment I got one time from a previous reader).
I’m happy to swap beta reading if anyone likes, but I’d prefer if whoever wants to read mine has at least some interest in and experience with children’s books.
I’m going to include a snippet from chapter 2 below the cut so you can decide if it sounds interesting. If you’re interested please DM me or reply/reblog this post. Thank you in advance!
Now Ms. Luna is on the floor in front of me, bent down like adults do to when they talk to little kids. Not 10-year-old kids, except they still do it to me. Mama says that if I stand up tall and smile and talk to people using the big words I do at home, they won’t think I’m like a little kid. I think she doesn’t understand school.
“Fae, we’re going to work on spelling worksheets. Can you come back to your desk, please?”
Ms. Luna doesn’t look angry. She doesn’t look sad. She doesn’t look anything. But I’m still scared to say no, because that can get me in trouble sometimes.
“Fae, come on. I know you like spelling, and I need you to participate, ok?”
I wonder if teachers ever get annoyed when they’re stuck with the really weird kids.
She won’t go away until I use words, so I say, slowly and carefully, “I want to stay here.”
“I know, but you’ve been here for over fifteen minutes and you can’t miss a whole lesson or you won’t know the words for Friday’s quiz.”
I’m tired. It’s been a long day. I peek over her shoulder and all the other kids are looking at me. Their eyes feel like lasers. I want to go home. And suddenly I’m angry, because it’s not fair. It’s not fair that I’m supposed to do as well as everyone else even though the world hurts me and not them. It’s not fair that people still talk to me like I’m in kindergarten. And it’s not fair that they always look at me like I’m a puzzle or a slug and not a person.
I hate being angry. My anger is red and liquid and fills me up until it overflows. I scream without meaning to. I want to scream “I hate you” but the words are stuck in my throat, and that makes me even more angry. I know better than to throw things, but all I want is to do what I’m not supposed to. I want Ms. Luna to hurt like I do.

I'm reading the ""Jaws" book and I finally got to the section where Brody, Quint, and Hooper first get to see the shark. According to Quint's visual estimates, the sharks head was about FOUR FEET ACROSS!! That's a huge ass shark!

CHAPTER ONE ~ New Beginnings
___________________________________
[Authors POV]
Oliver sat on the edge of his bed, surrounded by an array of suitcases and boxes. A wave of nerves washed over him as he looked at the mess he had created, but he couldn't help the excitement that bubbled up inside of him. He was moving to LA, the city of dreams, and he was determined to finally make something of himself. Despite what his father thinks. He was on edge about taking this risk and venturing into a foreign country, but he felt ready for whatever lay ahead.
[Olivers POV]
I shoved the last suitcase into the trunk of the taxi and wiped the sweat off my forehead. "Phew, I think that's it.." I glanced over at the driver and smiled innocently "Give me a second, I want to make sure I've gotten everything!" He gave me a nod and I swiftly ran into the house and up the stairs. As I reached the door to my bedroom I slowly opened it. I looked around my room and sighed, it was so empty. It's weird looking at an empty room that used to be filled with stuff. I smiled and proudly placed my hands on my hips, "Well, this is it. I'm really doing this arent I?" I took a deep breath and headed down stairs where I made eye contact with my dad. I slowly walked over to him. He reeked of alcohol. He stood there with his arms crossed. "Are you seriously doing this, Oliver?" My dad said to me, visibly irritated. "Yeah, I am." I replied, grinning. "Don't come crying back to me when everything goes to shit, you hear me ya fucker?" My dad scolded, "Get out, and don't come back, you little shit." he shouted at me, crazily waving around his arms. I glared at him, holding back tears. I knew he was an asshole, and I'm definitely used to his behavior, but damn do his words still hurt. I turned to the door and dashed out of the house, all of my worries about LA drained out of my body. I just wanted to leave this place, far away from him. Reaching the taxi I quickly hopped in, “I'm ready, sir." I told the driver, pulling myself together. "Alrighty." The driver replied, driving off. I watched as my house got smaller and smaller. I sighed, putting in my earbuds and placed my head onto the window, closing my eyes. 'This is going to be a very long journey..' I thought to myself, clenching my hands together. Here we go, LA here I come.
[Authors POV]
Oliver jolted awake as the taxi hit a bump, he blinked open his eyes trying to regain vision. He looked outside the window and saw 'Cork Airport' in bold letters. "Ahh you’re awake, Mr. Byrne! We've arrived at the airport, let me help you with your luggage!" The driver said to him, cheerfully. "Oh, thank you." Oliver yawned, opening his door.
The driver helped Oliver handle his bags to the entrance of the airport. He thanked the driver and waved him off. Oliver took his suitcases and entered the building. He made his way to a bench and plopped himself there, pulling his phone out, '7:38 AM' the clock read. "I hate mornings." Oliver whispered to himself, uncontrollably yawning every 5 seconds.
Oliver sat there, tapping absently at his phone screen as he waited for his boarding group to be called. Around him, the buzz and hum of the airport enveloped him. He's never seen so many people in a building at once. 'I wonder how busy LA is, I hope I'll be okay..' he thought to himself, 'I'm getting a little shakey, now that I've acknowledged how many people are here..'. Oliver shook his head and went back to scrolling through his phone, attempting to distract himself from his anxieties.
Before he knew it, he was boarding onto the plane. Oliver seated himself next to a window, since this was his first time flying, he felt a bit nervous. He hoped the window would make him feel more comfortable and relaxed. The pilot was very polite. He greeted everyone and went over the basics. After he was finished, the pilot made his way to the cockpit to prepare for takeoff. Oliver was feeling extremely anxious, his mind a tangled mess. A few days prior, he binged videos of people flying in planes and explaining their experiences to ease his worries. But, obviously videos are different than actually flying in a plane yourself. As he felt the plane shake, he gripped onto the seats arms. 'Why am I doing this again?' Oliver asked himself, holding the seat for dear life. 'Probably the stupidest idea I've ever had..'.
As the plane became accustomed to the sky, Oliver felt a lot better. He controlled his breathing, and calmed himself down. 'I'm doing this for my career, to prove my dad wrong, and to show him I'm capable of becoming successful!' Oliver thought, grinning. Those reminders helped him remember what he'd always wanted, reminding him what he'd been planning to do for years! He still felt fairly nervous about starting new in such a foreign place. But, 'It'll all be worth it.' he thought. As Oliver daydreamed about his future in California, his eyelids grew heavy. Eventually, he drifted off to sleep, still envisioning the life that awaited him in LA.
*end of chapter 1*
note #2 : hi, i hope you guys liked that chapter! it’s a bit short for my liking but i just wanted to make it short and sweet. i know it’s a little boring but i didn't wanna throw anything huge or super intense because it is only the first chapter. i just wanted it to be a chill opening to my book! i want to formally introduce oliver so i’ll probably make an ‘all about this character’ sheet or something! i was up at 2 in the morning writing and revising this chapter.. i just overlooked it again just to be sure theyre wasnt any mistakes i made (which there probably is..) 😭 i didn’t wanna leave a big cliffhanger, i wanted to but there wasnt really anything to cliffhang on LMAO
as i’ve mentioned before, it will probably take me a while to write chapter 2. i got a lot on my plate and my life is pretty busy! i’ll try my hardest to not take 500 years but i cant promise anything! but let me know how you're feeling about this so far!! please don't be afraid to hit me up with ideas/criticism and shit! i definitely need it and am open to it! ok bye 🤓
i should also say that the book cover is made from picsart lol, the men on the cover, i’m not sure who they are, if anyone knows who they are tell me so i can give credits lol. 🤍
   tá grá agam ort 🥰,
