More Reading Thoughts: Three Is Company

Frodo calling it “Our Birthday” is making me feel things. Oh would you look at the time, it’s Crying About Bilbo and Frodo O’Clock again TT~TT

It’s honestly such a mood that Frodo says to himself “I’m following Bilbo!” so he doesn’t have to think about “I’m carrying a thing of great evil into danger and unseen ends”. Me too, Frodo. Me too.

“And see that Sam Gamgee does not talk. If he does, I really shall turn him into a toad.” 🤣

“Bilbo went to find a treasure, there and back again; but I go to lose one, and not return, as far as I can see.” OH WOULD YOU LOOK AT THE TIME—

Also “and not to return” is so heartbreaking, especially knowing that by the time he gets to Mordor Frodo is fully expecting to die at the end of his journey TT^TT

“It may be your task to find the Cracks of Doom.” JUST DROP THAT FORESHADOWING RIGHT THERE LIKE IT’S NOTHING, HUH, TOLKIEN??

I’m honestly very impressed by how neatly Tolkien crafted Frodo’s backstory and interwove it into the story. The idea that he’s going back to Buckland where he grew up really does seem credible! None of the hobbits would suspect a thing! I almost have to wonder which came first in Tolkien’s mind, Frodo’s backstory or the fact that he’d need a good excuse to go East. It’s so well-crafted and it makes my writer brain happy.

Frodo, whining: "My bag is so heavy" Sam, lying: "I could carry more, sir!" Pippin: "Oh no you don't, let him suffer"

Honestly the dynamic of this trio is super underrated LOL

I'm honestly not sure whether "well, we all like walking in the dark" is meant to be sarcastic or genuine—the way it's repeated later on makes me think it's genuine, but I can't be sure—so just to be safe I'm bringing the Frodo Sassville-Baggins score up to 2.5

I'm taking the time to read the walking bits slowly now, and honestly, the way Tolkien describes the countryside of the Shire is so beautiful. I want to go there, and I want to walk there, and I want to see what the hobbits are seeing. Every little piece of nature and topography elicits an emotion; from the enclosed safety of Hobbiton, cradled in its cozy little valley, to the great fir tree standing guard over the hobbits as they sleep, to the road winding endlessly on before them, promising still more work and beautiful scenery and adventures to come. Is this slow reading? Yes. But I love it so much.

Frodo wakes up and the first thing he does is grumble to himself about his back and neck. He really is an old man. I love him.

Honestly this entire scene is comedy gold

Frodo: "Wake up, hobbits! It's a beautiful morning." Pippin, a literal teenager: "What's so beautiful about it?" ROFLOL

Pippin, literally out in the middle of nowhere: "Sam, draw a bath!"

And for that, Frodo steals his blankets and makes him roll over. Frodo Sassville-Baggins score: 3.5

Pippin: "Water! Where's the water?" Frodo: "I don't keep water in my pockets!" SASSVILLE-BAGGINS SCORE: 4.5

And then he makes Pippin come get the water with him, since he wants it so badly. I love Exasperated Older Sibling Frodo and I wish we got to see so much more of it.

Pippin, after Frodo randomly bursts into poetry: "Wow, was that Bilbo's poetry, or yours? It's kind of a downer."

I'm so glad they kept the "it's dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door" line in the movies, because it really is so good.

Sam's canonically good hearing returns!

Frodo suggesting they prank Gandalf for being late is honestly so cute lol

Twice in this chapter we get the eucatastrophe of Frodo just barely not putting on the Ring, right at the last second. The first time, the Black Rider just walks off on his own, and the second time the Elves show up and scare him off. I will praise Frodo's virtues 'till Spring turns into Winter, but I think this is clear evidence right from the beginning that Frodo was not, and could not, be saved from the temptation of the Ring by any virtue of his own. He is saved; he does not save himself. All of which is honestly very Christian of Tolkien.

Pippin, to Frodo: "All right, keep your secrets!"

I love the walking song. I might do a revised recording of it, if you guys will tolerate my singing voice again X-D

Can we just acknowledge how bad*ss it is that Frodo sneaks up and spies on a Black Rider, just out of curiosity?? Like, I know this is more a feat of stupidity than it is of courage, but given everything we know about them by the end of the book, that is honestly WICKED cool.

Sam, having to be dragged back by his arms: "ELVES! ELVES!"

GILDOR!!

GILDOR MY UNDERRATED BESTIE

I have not read the Silmarillion, but I know enough about it to know that Finrod is the G.O.A.T.

The Elves: "You're being followed by Black Riders?? Okay you're coming with us now"

And Gildor immediately like "LOL y'all watch your language, the babies can understand us!" I love him dearly

....Okay wait I have a thought about the hobbits walking with the elves until they nearly fall asleep on their feet. A thought about soldiers and Tolkien's experience in war. Wait. I'm gonna have to make a post about this.

Eyyyy it's the Turin constellation!

Something about the Elven hall did indeed become a core memory for young Lady Glasses. I spent quite a few years building a fantasy world that would capture that sense of mysticism and wonder. Just like Sam and Pippin, I never really remembered the details, but the emotion stuck with me, and it enchanted my imagination.

The Elves bringing out a Thanksgiving feast and saying "sorry we don't have better food" is like going over to your friend's immaculately cleaned house and them saying "sorry for the mess"

Frodo speaking the Elves' language and charming them all is so cute

Sam falling asleep at Frodo's feet as he talks to Gildor is SO CUTE

SASSVILLE-BAGGINS SCORE: 5.5

Gildor saying "you don't need to understand the Black Riders, just stay away from them" is honestly very Christian of Tolkien too. The best spiritual warfare advice I've ever heard is "don't try to understand demons; just get as close to your Protector".

Anyway Gildor complimenting Frodo is very cute and that is all

Ch208 (p2), Were all of us being tricked?

There's not much to say here, as we see the last scene from ch207 -- Finny leaving and Doll holding Snake as he bleeds out.

I have to assume Snake means himself and all his snake friends when he says "us". Though he could also see Finny as being used, since they were both brought into the Phantomhive household and sent on this mission.

Of course, Doll and our earl are the ones who truly extended their hands to him. He doesn't know who else to blame, like Kelvin, Sebastian, or the others.

Then he starts to flashback to his days (years?) in a cage.

Well, sort of.

At least her rank is better now.

Alright then, how about the subject rankings...

Aww, so both Damian and Anya got their third Stella Star at the same time, just like their second ones last year.

On a side note, I'm glad that Becky mentioned her rank in language (or national language, I presume?) and Ewen mentioned his rank in science... I think they still have time to improve their ranks in those subjects, at least they're already in the top ten.

Also, what a funny reaction from Anya here lol 😅 She's just too happy to get the Stella Star 😁

Alright then, now the situation can't be...

Damn, what's with this result? So now she has both three Stella Stars and three Tonitrus Bolts...

Well, at least she got them at the same time now, while for the first and the second ones, she got the Tonitrus Bolts before the Stella Stars.

Edited: I just realized that Bill got his second Stella Star from Math, hmm...

I'm glad that all of them are just focusing on her Stella Star rather than the Tonitrus Bolt, so she isn't that stressed about it.

Oh, and she realized the reason for her bad score. That's a good thing.

It was such a shame that we didn't get to see something like this when Damian got his first Stella Star from the midterm, but at least now we can see his third one, along with the first time Anya got hers from her term final.

Meanwhile, Demetrius also got some Stella Stars from all of the subjects, and now we can see his face.

Alright then, if Damian's face is just like Melinda, then no wonder if Demetrius is just like Donovan, with his large eyes 👀

However, it's so funny that Anya mimicked him (the eyes) with the hope that her grades would be better next time lol 😆

In short, I'm satisfied with this chapter.

The chapter only started and we are already blessed by a Freddy Mercury reference 🥹🙏💅

Long story short ('cause i am not screenshoting all the thing bruh) : Gouenji decided to abduct the child since his mama wouldn't be looking for him after all. Bumped into Fudou, who is very suspicious of Gouenji and started asking him question. Will Fudou actually save the child ? 🤯

Chapter 140-144 discussion

Now because these four chapters are basically one big chapter all culminating in Junhyuk and Yeonwoo's reconciliation I'm going to put it all together in one big gigantic fat essay.

You're welcome.

Starting off with chapter 140 let us all praise Jinwoo for his amazing advice because all this was really solved by Jinwoo telling Yeonwoo if "he doesn't listen to you just punch him". That right there is some solid advice and it did wonders for our boys in the long run.

I also just love how Jinwoo is so quote-on-quote nonchalant about this entire debacle between Junhyuk and Yeonwoo but you can tell that he cares, he wouldn't be talking to Yeonwoo if he didn't care. Even though he complains about his broken heart and we all know he's jealous of the fact that Yeonwoo and Haesol are dating that doesn't deter him from helping a friend in need.

Let's also talk about and appreciate how Jinwoo and Yeonwoo have truly become friends. Like I'm so happy that Yeonwoo now has another male friend who is not Junhyuk. Now he understands what a friendship between two men is more than likely supposed to look like. His relationship with Junhyuk is abnormal and him having a friendship with another man in a way that is normal, in a sense I feel like it's going to do good for him.

Gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss Yeonwoo, he came out in the cold in his pajamas on purpose because he knows that Junhyuk has a strong tendency to take care of him. Like even when Junhyuk is trying to stay away from Yeonwoo he still has that desire to take care of Yeonwoo and I just find that so heartwarming but also so messed up when you think about it. Like their bond is so deep that even in the midst of an argument they still have those habits that they are unable to get away from. Ah trauma. (Haesol would be livid) Scratch that that's a positive thing now.

I can feel Yeonwoo's frustration as Junhyuk is just not listening to him and just brushing him off.

That punch was so satisfying.

I adored and loved every minute of it. The way I had to wait for those chapters to come out, painful (after the chapter 147 raws it's about to get worse).

Them airing out all their guilt, honesty, I loved it but it is very obvious that they are still holding some things back.

Completely off topic but the panel where Haesol is telling Yeonwoo that his relationship with Junhyuk is abnormal when I first read that chapter I was terrified because I thought her grip on him was too hard but now that we go back into the memory and Yeonwoo has calmed down and that shadow on her face is gone the look on her face is so soft and her hold on him is so careful I'm actually sick. (Ya I'm delusional so what)

Only Yeonsol people Only Yeonsol!!!

Back to the boys.

This argument between them was honestly what we all needed but it wasn't enough I'm not going to lie. There are still so many things that they should talk about and it kind of feels like they are brushing things under the rug but, it is a start. They have never had an argument before and this is their first argument so it's a start.

I can't be the only one who thought that Junhyuk talking about his fixation on Yeonwoo and how he can't help do certain things when he's with him... that low key sounded like a confession... I'm not going to lie I was like how this was wording. I just found it funny and I loved it I'm not going to lie. Like I love my platonic boys but the wording, it stuck out to me and I cackled.

What makes this even better is the fact that Junhyuk and Haesol are both jealous of each other because of the others relationship with Yeonwoo. THE IRONY!

Something that struck me was them talking about how Yeonwoo tried to off himself and how that made Junhyuk feel. it was honestly something that they needed to talk about because the moment that happened in the flashback I was like they better talk about this when they reconcile because there's no way you're going to have that be such a major part of Junhyuk's trauma and not address it.

Plus Yeonwoo is too perceptive he is very intelligent when it comes to understanding other people's emotions especially Junhyuk he's been with the man his whole entire life, he understands Junhyuk. Them talking about that and reconciling has healed a part of me that I did not know was broken. It healed a part of me that I thought it genuinely loved the angst but that part showed me how much I actually needed healing.

It was an eye opener.

That sequence of them going back and forth from their childhood to them in the park and that hug that finally came

*smacks hand on table*

that was just so cathartic.

The release I felt when they finally hugged it out oh my God that was so good I was all over the place. it was just too good.

It was actually amazing.

Now in chapter 143 the awkwardness that has come after that was honestly so realistic.

I love how Esol is just so realistic in her depictions of all the characters and especially in the human aspects of their relationships. For instance if this was any other webtoon this realistic awkwardness that comes after you reconcile from a fight would probably not be as well flushed out as it is in this chapter. It would be a miniature gag and then they would move on and act like nothing happened.

I appreciate how Esol doesn't do that and she takes everything that is happening seriously and you can tell the amount care that she puts into each and every one of the scenes that she draws and puts out into the world.

Now I know this chapter is about them reconciling and everything becoming better but I am not the only person who thinks that Yeonwoo has the potential to be a master manipulator. Like yeah his intention is to reconcile with Junhyuk and be friends with him again but the way certain things are worded where he's like "you can let go of your guilt that you have for me now" or when he goes on and on about how he isn't the best person but he still wants to be friends with Junhyuk... like I know he has good intentions but that right there could be some master manipulator type stuff I'm just putting that out into the world because it is there.

Other than that chapter 143 is honestly great but... when Yeonwoo says that there are times where he wishes he could have come to school with a gun and shot up the place... now as an American that hit a bit too close to home and I was gagged I had to take several steps back because my boy!

Like sure I would let you do that to me but I mean in all honesty I was surprised I was bamboozled. . . It was still a fun read but I was very surprised.

Did I mention that shock to me.

Ya? Ok.

Yeonwoo admitting to Junhyuk that if it weren't for Junhyuk he probably would not be here today that actually warmed my heart. Junhyuk has been having a crisis over how he isn't helping Yeonwoo, thinking that he is in fact harming him (this is all Haesol's fault) and for Yeonwoo to tell him that because of Junhyuk he would not be here today is just so good.

It really does something to your soul you know.

Now this reconciliation was sweet but can we just talk about how pretty Yeonwoo is. Like I know Esol loves drawing our main leads because her Instagram and Twitter have the most jaw-dropping works of Haesol and in the webtoon the way she draws Yeonwoo needs to be studied because he's just absolutely mesmerizing.

The panel where Yeonwoo is pulling his hand out for Junhyuk to shake it so they can move on and the slight blush that dusts his cheeks as the camera pans to Junhyuk's point of view, how his expression is just one of embarrassment with a mix of shame and a tad bit of frustration 🤤

Oh my Lord I had to like take a break from my computer because I unconscious.

My heart stopped

I was contemplating my life decisions.

I was ready to get down on my hands and knees and do anything he asked because how the heck can someone look that pretty with a bruised eye no less.

The detail that Esol goes into when drawing Yeonwoo it's just magnificent and I'm fed every chapter with how pretty he is.

Enough of that, I can honestly go on and make like a 20 page essay on his looks alone. You wouldn't want to read that.

Them shaking hands was great but of course knowing Esol she had to add that ominous cloud of black static that kind of dampend in the mood a tad bit but hey we got what we got and I'm honestly not mad at it because it was great.

The cloud eludes to the fact that there is going to be a constant stain on their psyches because of what happened to them middle school. It is honestly a great way to show trauma but it's also a great way to show that they are moving on and they are getting better.

Now let's get to the meat and butter of this chapter

HAESOL BABY

SHE'S OBVIOUSLY SO MAD!!!

The drama!!! it's just so good for my soul. Poor Nari (all hail Nari she deserves it) she just wants all her friends to be friends again and then here are Haesol and Yeonwoo going through something right after Yeonwoo and Junhyuk have rekindled their relationship.

Yeonwoo going on a whole entire ramble of denial talking about how him and Haesol are not fighting... Like sweetie... babes

You're fighting.

Haesol is jealous and you yourself are also jealous.

There are so many points of miscommunication for these two.

Talking about that alone is going to warrant its own essay (I will do it) like these two are so messy and they're messy in a way that isn't even frustrating because they can easily fix it, no they're messy in a way that is just so sensible. That's what makes it so frustrating.

You get both of their points of views and that's what makes it so much worse because you understand them both. Therefore you understand why they both are not talking about the glaring issue that is their jealousy.

It's just so good.

That last look where Yeonwoo is asking Haesol can we talk and the look on her face....

I just it's so good like oh my God she just looks so ugghh I can't even explain it. You understand what I'm talking about though.

Now you know honestly this was my favorite part of this little arc.

The reveal of how Junhyuk really got his injuries and how he actually beat that man to a pulp even though he is "crippled" like that piece of trash had all the talk in the beginning, talking about how "oh you mean Junhyuk the cripple??

Yet that cripple was the one who beat you and your gang who had weapons by the way to a bloody pulp.

LIKE WHO'S LAUGHING NOW!!!

Now I so desperately wanted him to carry out that final act and just end that piece of trash's life but hey this is not a murder mystery and this is definitely not a thriller (that's debatable) but man was that good.

Junhyuk laughed in his face when he saw that he pissed himself.

Haah!!!

I myself cackling a little.

When I saw that I was on the floor. it was so funny like for all your big talk you can't carry out anything without the people around you.

Which honestly just pisses me off more because Junhyuk is right victims are often left to deal with the consequences of other people's actions and just told to move on when all it would have really taken for this to not happen is the people around Yeonwoo shunning the bully and that bully could not have done anything.

Like let's remember that the bully was only powerful because the people in the class let him get that powerful.

All the class had to do was recognize that what he was doing was wrong and ultimately shun him and everything that happened to Yeonwoo would not have happened to him.

A simple solution but they made it 10 times more complicated because they were scared of what some guy who bullied someone in another school. Like yeah he's strong but you're a collective. the class could have simultaneously ganged up on him and made him stop and he wouldn't have been able to do anything.

Eventually the teacher would have had to step in and do something about it. (No matter how useless they are) I'm still pressed on that and I blame that entire class and the teachers for what happened to Yeonwoo.

Next chapter we're going to get some Nari and Junhyuk and I'm so here for that I love those two they are like my favorite side pairing now because I love them so much.

First comes Yeonsol than come

Did I just come up with their ship name???

Yes I did!!!

Now that was fun and I'm so excited for the next chapters because I read chapter 147 and I'm not going to be able to think about anything else for the rest of the week!!!

When that chapter gets translated and it comes out I'm going to go on the most diabolical rant of all time you all better be ready because I'm going to go haywire.

You all know my love for angst and this right here is prime good stuff not only is the angst delicious but the context behind the angst is even more of a scrumptious side meal.

Before I spoil anything I'm going to stop this here but this!

This story is just getting so much better and I am absolutely living.

That coupled with the new artists that have joined the fandom (check over on Twitter)

Things are looking up....

Chapter 199

not much activity around this chapter but welp that's expected. art didn't disapoint, as usual.

thankfully I think the one thing this chapter did for me was provide the answers to the questions made last time(even if they were very small. and i expected them to be answered now. would be disappointing otherwise. )

so first, I'm just gonna review what we now know:

They are not the night watch.

previously, i have wondered that since these kids are all senior, if they work for Doll. But it's now made clear that they have nothing to do with any of that.

they know that Doll means trouble.

despite not working for her, they seem to know a lot about her background. about her nature tho, not sure.

they are not certain of what happens to them after fledging day.

just that it's quite bad. is this an educated guess based on the fact that they can't contact anyone outside, or more likely, have they seen something that scares them? such as what happens to the kids who run away?

and then there's something that I'm mostly certain of:

I don't think these children are supernatural.

since she's exhausted, and looks like she was using all of her dear strength to hold him up(and he's not the heaviest guy around for a long shot), I personally don't believe there's anything other than... possibly intense circus training going on(i still think doll may have shown her some stuff). + a dose of fiction. what child is normal here.

especially since they were all shocked when Finny bent the knife, I think it's fair to say they've never seen such obscene strength before.

they probably don't know about the blood collecting.

they looked very shocked, so it's natural to assume this is the first they've heard. but of course, I'm still wondering if they've seen something terrible(such as what happens to the children who run away), so there's a possibility that they either already know and are shocked that Finny knows as well, or, Theo is connecting the dots between what he saw and what Finny says.

but I still think it's the former.

only one thing is very certain: Yana loves her AU's. we got Sherlock Holmes, titanic, Harry Potter, I'm just gonna say Grims fairytales or smth, and now we have the Promised Neverland.

Chapter 1103

Kuma finally showing up at egghead now his backstory is complete is sick, can't wait to see him go hard at Saturn.

Kizaru definitely the one who got food to Luffy. Which means we could see all 3 go against Saturn but I feel Kizaru may just help from the background for a while longer.

Dragon showing up and meeting luffy could be on the cards too but I think if he did show up its likely they wouldn't get the reunion and he would play a part in helping the Straw Hats escape and finishing off whoever is left - maybe alongside Kizaru?

Last panel of chapter is great, really hoping 1104 kicks off with Saturn getting Charlos'd into oblivion.

With that kind of stamina, agility, skills, and adaptable analysis accuracy, are we sure he is not triple agent? That he's actually part of Garden?? Because I don't think SSS can have an agent of this caliber 🤣🤣🤣🤣 (sorry SSS).

Anyway, the chapter end with unhinged Fiona.

After unhinged Melinda back then, now we have unhinged Fiona. Endo sure loves his female characters, eh?? (And I love Endo for that 🥰)

Now the questions are, what is the reason for Fiona's rage? Is it:

1. A simple fangirl getting angry because her idol is hurt? Which is, tbh, rather meh. I really hope Endo use this narrative to develop Fiona's character. Which make possible reason no.2 is more interesting. That is...

2. Fiona's ideal or perfect Twilight (in her fantasy) is being broken to dust. She has to accept a bitter truth that at the end, Twilight is just another human and that's he is not invincible. So she better stop putting him on pedestal, and worship him. It is about time she surpass her mentor.

"Ambitious Fiona" is still a far more interesting characterization rather than "crazy fangirl with crazy dreams Fiona".

3. Fiona that has realized that Twilight is just mere human, now change her target to Wheeler. She has to kill this man (but Wheeler survive) and thus begin the cat and mouse game between the two. (What? Fiona and Wheeler? Don't you guys see it in that panel? How Wheeler flirt with Fiona by mocking her incapability? Fiona-Wheeler--> Feeler? 🤣🤣🤣 lol, I'm joking. Or maybe not 👀)

4. Fiona and Yuri first meet! She is upset cause Yuri is getting beaten down! (Ok, this is just my YuriIona impossible wish 🤣)

Ahem, what? Twilight is destinied to be with Yor. So let's make harem for Fiona instead.

Ok ok.

Angsty thought now.

What will happen when Yor heard the news that both of her boys has now been hurt and hospitalized? They might tell her that both got in a "totally happen in different place" car accident. But Yor herself is not a stranger to martial arts. She would definitelly recognize the wounds on Loid's and Yuri's body as a result from fighting. She will be devastated for sure. But her reaction can be:

1. She blame herself, and then start to do her night job harder. Kill harder. Clean the place harder.

2. She connects the dots and realized that Loid and Yuri has fight the other. She might be very upset at both of them. Yor herself might be not thinking about the boy's secret identity, but this will lead Yuri to realize who Loid really is.

Either way, this arc is getting more and more interesting!!!

I can't wait to read more, Endo! 🥰🥰

More Reading Thoughts: The Prologue

I will never not love Tolkien’s framing device of “my fantasy epic is 100% a translation of an ancient historical book like Beowulf, it’s totally real, you guys, definitely”

“[Bullroarer Took] was surpassed in all Hobbit records only by two famous characters of old; but that curious master is dealt with in this book” is an incredibly intriguing line to me. You’d think it refers to Frodo and Sam, because of what they did to destroy the Ring—but the rest of the hobbits didn’t really care all that much about that. They saw Sam as just another mayor (if a very tenured one) and Frodo as a strange recluse. I think this line refers to Captains Meriadoc and Peregrin, actually, for their courage and leadership during the Battle of Bywater.

“To the last battle at Fornost with the Witch-lord of Angmar they sent some bowmen to the aid of the king, or so they maintained, though no tales of Men record it.” This cracks me up. First of all, the fact that hobbits claim to have sent some aid to the King’s war, but either they’re lying or mistaken or they’re literally so small and unremarkable that everyone completely forgot they were there. Secondly, this is the first and not the last time hobbits are gonna be a pain in the Witch King’s butt

“They were, in fact, sheltered, but they had ceased to remember it” is a line that goes so hard bruh

Today’s vocabulary word is “ramify, v: form branches or offshoots; spread or branch out; grow and develop in complexity or range.” So “large and ramifying tunnels”, in this case, paints the picture of the hobbit holes sprouting rooms and hallways that branch off like tree roots. Fascinating.

The fact that Merry probably has some Stoor blood in him still makes me giggle because they’re the only hobbits that could grow any sort of beard. I still maintain the headcanon that Merry has three (3) hairs on his chin, and he shaves them regularly and is inordinately proud of them.

“Sometimes, as in the case of the Tooks of Great Smials, or the Brandybucks of Brandy Hall, many generations of relatives lived in (comparative) peace together in one ancestral and many-tunnelled mansion.” That little interjection of “comparative” was not mine, it’s right there in the text, and it has me cracking up X-D

Merry’s little personal asides in “Concerning Pipeweed” are absolutely darling—including the shade at Breelanders, the almost wistful descriptions of how much better the plant grows in Gondor, and the fond way he speaks of Gandalf.

Okay so I once claimed that the book never refers to Frodo as Bilbo’s nephew, only as his young kinsman; but here at the end of section three he is actually called “Frodo his favorite ‘nephew’”, with the quotation marks and all. So the idea is already planted in our minds that their relationship is sort of avuncular (throwback to that old vocab word!) before we start the story.

“With [Thorin’s company Bilbo] set out, to his own lasting astonishment…” 🤣🤣🤣

Boy I still need to do Bilbo-With-Glasses someday

Tolkien taking several pages of prologue to explain the inconsistency of the riddle game in The Hobbit will never not be funny

Ch209 (p3), Offers and lies

The remaining circus members are just as clueless as he is -- actually more clueless -- so he sets off to find answers. Somehow, he figures out that Smile must be "Ciel Phantomhive", who sometimes works with Scotland Yard. I consider this an interesting hole in the story, and fans might be tempted to fill that in....

Anyway, it's too soon to think the rest of the first tier are dead, so he's holding out for getting to the bottom of this, finding them again, and finally being accepted as a true member of their family.

Snake doesn't want to believe they are kidnappers, but he knows they are up to no good. These conflicting thoughts and feelings are like snakes, as they "writhed and tangled" inside his mind.

Even after our earl tells him what the circus is secretly up to, Snake hopes to be reunited with the ones he was closest to. He wants them to atone for their mistakes but then live in peace and happiness.

He sees joining the Phantomhive household as his best bet for finding them, especially since our earl lies about their whereabouts/fates. They are dead, but our earl claims he's still searching for them.

Life with the Phantomhives definitely has its perks, in the meantime. Gaining a basic education, not being gawked at by spectators, great food, and so on.

Of course, there's the incident on the ship, with the rude ladies, but our earl and Sebastian both work to build up his self confidence and self esteem.

He enjoys being with the Phantomhive household, and he might see them becoming his family. Despite this, Snake still misses the circus troupe and longs to be with them again.

Thanks to Doll being reanimated as a Bizarre Doll, Snake's hopes have come true, just not as expected.

Thoughts on chapter 1086, so much great info to go over

so, immortality in the op world seems kinda a myth to others? and we only got to know about was because of the former Celestial Dragon, doffy.

this explains why Teach was being skeptical, if he knew it for sure he wouldn't waste a minute.

And what the rest of the world would do if this Information was spread? That immortality isn't a myth, and Imu is indeed an immortal being? according to Cora, the whole world will target the owner of such a fruit.

As for Imu's order, as I predicted before, Imu wants Vivi, perhaps for a new vessel? ( sure the d thing too) and I think that because according to doffy, great power goes rotten with time (I couldn't find the panel)

so perhaps this is why Imu appears to be a young child and not an old person? because Imu needs to switch to a new body every now and then?

Oda didn't introduce Law's ability to switch souls for nothing, not to mention he used it only once- which is kinda weird?. I predict this is how you undo immortality, by trapping the soul in a void space where - Imu- wouldn't be a being anymore, unable to command and unable to destroy.

so, yeah Law is important for the final saga baby.

and for these things, people have been saying Croc looks feminine? , but to me, he is kind of indifferent or sad even? which is weird because each Seraphim looks like they adopted personalities as well.

Only four left, I predict Buggy and the blonde guy next, and I am super excited about Teach and Law THE MOST, save the best for the last kind of deal?

What a chapter was that!!!!

First things first I SAID IT bunch of Stella stars I'm so happy<3

The fact Becky wanted to use the event to launch her singing career lol <3

Anya almost make Damian little heart explode and as fast they acted as friends she just wrecked it all with the war peace <3

The way Yor came says she basically knew what happened and run straight there I love it, but I love more the way Anya reacted, she was so aware of the situation she didn't had the time to process the fear, but when her mother came and she knew she was going to be protected she simply felt everything together and damn this was the reaction I expected to happen...

And my dear Lord was there even after all considerations and I bet he was told to not go there by Silva since she said to not advise him, but he came cus he need to protect his lil girl, and is already preparing to comfort her <3

BUT THEN MELINDA HAPPENED

Before anyone starts on hating her I need to say, I feel sad for Melinda

She doesn't simply hate Damian, actually her first reaction was being glad he was okay, but then he mentioned Donovan, so suddenly she resents Damian, because her marriage is terrible and Donovan is an horrible man and the mention of him snaps her, so her children are her love and a curse cus she probably want a divorce, she would rather die than still being a Desmond, but she can't, because she have children and can't abandon them, but also, if maybe something happened with them she would be free...

I'm so sad... I'm happy that only Anya know the truth and not Damian it would completely broke the boy heart.

Chapter 138 (WHERE BACK BABBYY!!!)

My essay-long rants are back let's go!!!

It's been so long since we last got an update and as a comeback, (courtesy of Esol) this chapter has a lot to talk about.

But even though I have sooo much to say (I mean a lot) let's start from the beginning, shall we?

The meeting with Yeownoo and Junhyuk in the hospital... The emotions that happened during were so intense

The tears!

The groveling!!

DID I MENTION THE GROVELING!!!

Now I'm going to be completely honest I was lowkey (Scratch that highkey) mad at Junhyuk for leaving Yeonwoo but I honestly understand that it was because he just wanted to pursue his passion. And even though I did get some enjoyment (a lot of enjoyment) from him apologizing for leaving Yeownoo that does not mean I'm not devastated that he broke his leg and can no longer pursue what he wants to do. That killed me. I'm not okay.

I was ready to throw my phone across the room when Yeonwoo started crying. That single panel of him just silently crying... I don't think I'm going to be okay for a while (that's a lie I'm living) the Angst in this chapter was so delicious.

I ate good. (Yummy)

Man! Don't even get me started on how Junhyuk is like "I swear I won't ever leave you again" I cannot be the only person who yelled LIAR!!! because that's exactly what he's doing right now! Smh.

Jokes aside the talk on the rooftop

The way Junhyuk shifts from I must hold that piece of trash accountable for what he did to my best friend to I will never let anybody find out what happened to my best friend. I was gagged.

The fact that in the beginning, Junhyuk was thinking what everybody is thinking currently as we read this "Tell someone! Anyone!! what happened to you!!!" shows you just how bad the situation is, and how he originally wasn't like this. Also bringing into light how their codependent really started right there. On the rooftop.

The look on Yeonwoo's face when Junhyuk told him that he knew what happened and that he wanted to tell his parents and file a school violence report...

That is honesty when it clicked for me just how bad everything is. Like previously it clicked but that look on his face tells me that Yeonwoo was never going to tell a single soul about what happened even if there was a guarantee that he would be fine.

Junhyuk only found out about what happened to Yeonwoo by pure chance. That's it. If he just had not walked into that classroom on that specific rainy day and look at the attendance sheet he would not have known a thing. (It's really got ideas going through my head about what would have happened if he just kept walking...)

Now to the main part of this entire chapter. The part that's been setting everybody on fire and making everybody want to sell their firstborn child for the chance to never have read this chapter in the first place.

The jumping threat.

Yeownoo's breakdown?! OMG!

I genuinely had to pause for an extended period of time. Because, the way I gasped when he pulled out that knife. I was screaming at my screen knowing damn well he can't hear me 'PUT THAT DOWN!!!'

(the fact that I read it like 30 minutes after it came out and it was like crack of dawn was not helpful)

Yeonwoo pulling out that knife and telling Junhyuk not to tell a single soul and that panel with his expression (you know the one I'm talking about) had me weak!

The utter desperation on his face and absolute fear of what happened to him being found out that really brings into consideration just how badly it affected him. Like I knew that what happened to him screwed up his mental state, but seeing just how desperate he was...

I'm going to have nightmares. I'm going to have nightmares just from that one panel alone. Plus all this happening behind a beautiful sunset is diabolical. Like a beautiful backdrop but a depressing scenario?! (I gotta take notes)

Esol really knows how to pull those angst punches, doesn't she?

What makes this worse is that throughout all of this, Junhyuk just wants to help his friend but ultimately ends up becoming complicit is so sad. Everything really accumulated here. Their codependency started here. On the rooftop of the hospital.

All junhyuk wants is to have Yeonwoo be safe. For him to be happy again but at the end of the day, he just couldn't do it.

And the way this ties back to Haesol and how he thinks only she can do that is just so smart yet so diabolical!!

One of my favorite parts is when Junhyuk is reaching out towards Yeonwoo!!!

That very panel was foreshadowed I don't know how many chapters before?!! I recognized it immediately and I was ecstatic but also shocked because I was speechless...

Originally I thought that panel was because when Yeonwoo found out what happened to Junhyuk's leg he fainted and Junhyuk caught him before he fell but the fact that this panel is because Junhyuk was trying to save Yeonwoo from killing himself? Oh my God, I don't know how but Esol is able to just take the angst and ramp it up in ways that I just cannot fathom.

GOD!

She is diabolical!!!

Then right after that, we get the look of increasing terror and petrification on Junhyuk's face when he realizes, this is serious. When he realizes that Yeonwoo is not okay to an EXTREME extent and if he does tell a single person what happened, Yeownoo is going to kill himself.

The flashback to the beginning of middle school when Yeonwoo was just smiling and happy. The flashback of his brother being irreparably damaged in a way that he cannot even begin to understand. The tears that come down his face when he pleads and begs and sobbs to Yeonwoo that-

"I'll do what you say! I won't say anything... just please, don't die."

OH, GOD!!!

Junhyuk pleading to Yeonwoo to not die is just so gut-wrenching it hurts so goooodd!!!

That is the most angsty we have gotten and I am here for more because I already know once this Arc is over it's going to get worse. (⁠•⁠‿⁠•⁠)

Here's the important part. The panel at the end where Yeonwoo is like I'm so sorry. The dead look in his eyes while the tears flow down his face... its so good and I automatically knew that this was a manipulation tactic.

Now don't take the word I use manipulation to be a bad thing because it's not.

Yeonwoo is simply doing what he thinks he needs to do for Junhyuk to not tell a single soul that he was assaulted. Especially his parents.

That is important his parents are a big reason why he's not telling anybody. After all the hardship his parents had to conceive him, them finding out that he was assaulted in middle school is going to break them. I sympathize with him. In all honesty, would you really want your parents to find out what happened to you especially after the circumstances of your birth were already so traumatizing for them?

Yeonwoo is just a teen doing what he thinks he must to keep from anyone knowing what happened. He said himself that he's too scared to kill himself so there's no way he would go through with it. This hit hard on my second reread when Yeonwoo mumbled "Is this a joke to you," kind of like he was thinking about what he'd have to do for Junhyuk to not tell his parents.

Jumping off the rooftop was his conclusion, and it worked.

Yeah.

The nuance in the layers is just so good.

Don't even get me started on how when this Arc of their friendship is over I already know that Haesol is next because of the little bits of foreshadowing we got that she was not happy with the current situation.

YEONSOL ANGST BABBYYY!!!

I'M GOING TO EAT THAT UP!!!!

Think about it. If you're boyfriend is going on and on for a week plus about how his best friend is not talking to him anymore and acting the way Yeonwoo is when you know that their relationship is not healthy. That the codependence that they exhibit towards each other is not okay. And instead of saying something about that you bottle it up.

Oohhh!!! I already know the angst between these two is going to go crazy.

Overall this chapter was great and the fact that this is the way that Esol decides to welcome us back is giving me the beginning of season 3 flashbacks because dear God that was not a time to be a Yeonwoo's Innocence fan. Ooohh. Pain and suffering.

There is so much more to talk about and I have so many more things to say but overall I loved this chapter and the way it foreshadows future things and also brings to light the previous foreshadowings that happened before it was absolutely amazing and I loved it and I'm going to go back and reread the manhwa for the umpteenth time so that I can catch every bit of foreshadowing that happened before and post that on my Twitter thread because that is insanity.

I love this chapter so much and to keep this from being any longer I'm going to stop it here.
